the day had been long and full of gore, the blood splatters from the crime scene still staining the insides of her eyelids whenever she dared to close them for any longer than a second. which renders sleeping useless. working nights and trying to sleep during the day was hard enough with roommates and daylight seeping through every crack without the added bonus of nightmares. whilst she can stomach a solid ninety percent of crime scenes, there were a few that proved to be just too much. and so she’s dragged herself into the kitchen, feet stuffed into comically fuzzy bunny slippers as she pours herself a coffee — bumping into her roommate as they rose and she sank. hands wrap around the mug, absorbing the heat that radiates through her palms whilst blowing at the steam to cool it as she watches them in silence. “ have you got plans today? ” she finally pipes up, clearing her throat before taking a small sip — hissing at the temperature. “ not to trauma dump, but i probably won’t be able to sleep because of work so i was going to binge watch some movies and order take out and, as annoying as you are, i’d appreciate your company for once. i need the distraction. ”
