When you woke up, your body still remembered. You had the feeling that you still feel a gentle tickling on your scars and the memories of what happened at night made you feel hot down there. You pursed your lips and took a breath. Well... You were sure that from now on every time you look at these scars, you will only think about Jumin.
He wasn't with you on the bed, but you heard him bustling in the kitchen. Jumin never missed an opportunity to pamper you. Whenever he had enough time, he would make you breakfast and bring it to your bed.
You picked up the phone and opened the chat room. Jumin and you had a rather childish habit of writing on the messenger when you were both at home but in other rooms.
[Y/N has entered the chat room]  Zen: Baby~! Hello! You: Ah, Jumin is not here :(  Zen: ^^ ;;  Yoosung: lolol, you have been totally ignored  Zen: you too ;;

Zen: dude must you show off? Jumin Han: of course I must Jumin Han: I want to place tags all over her body so everyone knows she's mine You: you're cute Jumin ^^ Zen: he's not, Y/N ;; Jumin Han: sorry, my love. I'll be back to preparing your breakfast. Jumin Han: Do you also want coffee? You: yes, please.  Jumin Han: then excuse me

You: are you free or busy working? Saeran: I'm free [707 has entered the chat room] 707: oooh, a lot of people here today You: we need something for Sarah and Glam  You: Something that will finally convince Mr. Chairman who these women really are. 707: now u r also wiggling your tail in front of her
707: wiggle wiggle
Saeran: you want me to kill you?
You: um... I think Jumin finished preparing breakfast
You: so I'll be going
You: have a nice day, Choi twins! [Y/N has left the chat room] Just when you put the phone down, Jumin entered the bedroom with a tray of food and two coffees. He prepared a wonderfully fragrant omelet and decorated it with herbs - it was obvious that he put a lot of heart into the preparation of this meal. You thanked him, you ate together in bed, drank coffee and you told him what you asked Saeran for. "Mornings with you are wonderful, but they don't make me feel like going to work," Jumin said, putting down his empty cup. He was sitting on the bed next to you, already dressed for work. You, on the contrary, were still lazing in your pajamas - he really spoiled you. "Sometimes I would like to force you to stay but I can't do it Jaehee," You laughed lightly.  "Force me?" Jumin raised an eyebrow and then took your hand and kissed it, "All you have to do is ask and I won't leave anywhere."  "As I said I can't do this Jaehee," You replied with a smile.  "Are you sure?" He moved his lips from your hand to your wrist, to the scar.  You shuddered and pursed your lips, "You're sly, you know it, don't you?" "Sly? Why shouldn't I use your weak spots when I know them?" "Because it's sly!"
Jumin smirked, "Then maybe I'm a villain." "So, villain," You reached his cheek. "Before you leave me in your tower, how about a kiss goodbye?" Jumin leaned toward you, brushed the hair off your cheek and kissed you gently on the lips. You smiled, he still didn't move back. You kissed him again, this time on the cheek, "Well, you have to go." "Uh-huh," He nodded, then placed a kiss on your jawline and went his lips down to your neck. Despite the common sense that told you to stop it, you drew him closer. Jumin put a hand on your back, holding you. His lips caressed your collarbone. You dug hand in his hair with a sigh. Jumin suddenly embraced you tighter, pulled you on his knees - you instinctively put your legs apart and clung to him with your body. Your lips met again, much more intensely this time. Your breaths have accelerated. "If we continue..." Jumin panted, "... I'll be late for work." "So we should stop..." You whispered right next to his lips. "Definitely," He replied and pressed his lips against yours again. You embraced his neck, one of his hands fell on your ass. You murmured through the kiss without interrupting it. And... Then there was a knock at the door. You parted your lips and both sighed with displeasure. Jumin pressed his face to your collarbone for a moment, "What a terrible timing..." When you both got out of bed, you quickly adjusted Jumin's tie and when he went to the main room, you peeked from behind the wall, staying in the bedroom. "Mr. Han," It was Yoon who stepped to the apartment. "Yoon, is something the matter?" Jumin asked. You emerged from behind the wall and approached Jumin, "Yoon!" After what you've been through, Yoon was more a friend to you than a bodyguard. His gaze drifted toward you for a moment, his serious expression broke by a slight blush. The man cleared his throat to regain his face, "Ms. Y/N, good morning." Ah, right... You were only in a nightgown, probably now crumpled, with disheveled hair... Maybe Yoon was your friend, but he was still Jumin's employee and he probably felt embarrassed when thoughts of the sexual life of his boss appeared in his mind. "I'll go take a bathrobe," You mumbled and before you slipped into the bathroom, you felt Jumin's eyes on you... He probably wasn't pleased with your sense of latitude in front of another man either. Even if it was just Yoon. When you put on your robe, you scolded yourself in thoughts - one more minute and you would give Jumin another reason to fire this poor guy! "Your father is here, sir," Yoon said when you got back to the room. "Should I let him in?" Jumin frowned. You saw that he hesitated. You knew his relationship with his father was now being put to a great test - but you also knew that Jumin valued Mr. Chairman very much. "Maybe you should try to talk to him," You suggested. Jumin sighed, "Fine. Let him in." Yoon just nodded, opened the door for Mr. Chairman and, following Jumin's instruction, left the three of you alone. "Father," Jumin said in a cold voice. You were standing next to him, grabbed his hand. Mr. Chairman was silent for a moment. You felt strange under the look of this older man. You've come a little closer to Jumin. "So it's just like I thought," Mr. Chairman stated suddenly. "Son, I understand that she is a beautiful and young woman, but pleasure is not everything you should expect from a relationship. You should think more about your future." You felt anger growing up in you mixed with shame. Did he really just suggest that you are just his... what? Hook up? Jumin squeezed your hand tighter, "Father, refrain from such judgments. You know nothing about our relationship. And you are the last person to speak on this topic. Why are you here?" "I'm here because you didn't want to come to any meeting with me. I wanted to talk to you about my beloved Glam and her student Sarah." You looked at Jumin's face, his expression was still calm as always, but as you hugged his arm, you felt chills running through him. "You still want to insist on my wedding with Sarah? Does this Glam woman still have you wrapped around her finger? After all that Y/N had to experience because of Glam, Sarah... because of you, you still-" "Son, think about it... No," Mr. Chairman looked at you. "What can you offer to my son, girl?" You blinked, taken aback. "You don't have to answer that, my love," Jumin interjected brusquely. You felt a wave of icy anger overwhelm you. You let go of Jumin's hand and stepped in front of his father, "No. I actually want to answer." "You are just a student. You are young, too young. Inexperienced. Can you offer any contribution to the business of our company?" "No," You answered hard. "But I can offer something that Sarah will not offer him and which Glam will not offer you." "And that is?" "Love." For a moment Mr. Chairman looked at you without a word, the meaning of your words reached him slowly and suddenly it had to hit him hard because he exploded, "How dare you!" "No, how dare you, father," Jumin interrupted again. "You come here to my apartment to judge my love one. After you made sure that Sarah escaped just punishment." "Sarah had nothing to do with this whole abduction. Glam assured me that her student is a good and nice girl. She couldn't do anything like that. I'm almost convinced that this girl here is the one who planned all this." "What?" You ran out of words, opened your eyes wide. "You probably only care about my son's money, so you organized all this kidnapping to frame Sarah and get her out of your way." "Sarah bribed bodyguards so that they don't guard the lowest floor!" You exploded too, couldn't believe what you hear. "No, you persuaded them to do so. And they'd tell later in court that Sarah had bribed them. That is why I made sure that they did not participate in the trial. You couldn't pay them with money because you don't have enough. So maybe you promised to sell your body to them." "That's enough!" You heard a cold fury in Jumin's voice. "Leave immediately, father. I don't want to hear another word." "You'll regret your choice, son." Mr. Chairman turned on his heel and left. You stood there, paralyzed, shocked. You couldn't catch your breath. "God..." Jumin massaged his eyelids, which he had tightly closed. "What got into him? He's acting like a stranger. I'm so sorry..." He turned to you and embraced you around the waist. "You shouldn't have listened to all this." You slowly returned his embrace, "Don't worry, Jumin... We can handle it... We can handle all this..."

Maroon, Brick, Bronze, Sky, Teal, Violet, Lilac, Blush, Cotton candy, Coconut, and Black for Lace, Wrelia, Rhosill and Aselif
Oooh lot’s of good questions for lot’s of good kids! And by good, I mean every single one of these idiots is morally grey at best. You get a read more because it’s gonna be at least a little long. Have fun~
Maroon - What are you most passionate about?
Lace - They think for a moment, then laugh. “Well, there’s a lot of things I could say, but I’ll keep it appropriate and say the people I care about. Strair, Cue, Kvold, Ive, and others, I’d really do anything for them, and anything to keep them safe.”
Wrelia - “Oh! Oh! Yeah! My research! I put a lot of time into the study of magic, specifically necromancy. I’m mostly self taught, aside from the tips I’ve gotten from Odollumn and Trahearne, and I’m always working to learn more and expand my capabilities!”
Rhosill - “I’m not. Sorry.”
Aselif - “I’m most passionate about my poisons. It’s work I chose for myself, and that I enjoy. It helps with my job, and lets me explore new things. It’s really very lovely. Cayde is the other thing I’m passionate about. I love him, truly and surprisingly. I didn’t think I could, but I do.”
Brick - What are some things you dislike?
Lace - “People who treat public spaces like they’re private, idiots who think they can get the drop on me, people who try to use Cue to get to me. People who don’t respect boundaries. Tenor. Fire. Gods. Not having control. I can go on longer if you want...”
Wrelia - “The Elder Dragons have all been pretty mean. And I don’t really like being alone. And coffee makes me very shaky and doesn’t taste great, though chocolate covered coffee beans are pretty good. I don’t like that Mom has been trying to take on all this burden by herself, when she has so many people around her that want to help. I don’t like that things keep hurting my loved ones. I don’t like that I could lose everyone at any given moment, and that I wouldn’t be able to save them or bring them back. I really don’t like wyld hunts. I hate that we can’t stop, or the world will end. I don’t like this question.”
Rhosill - “Myself, the inquest, bandits, and my old job as an assassin, to name a few things.”
Aselif - “Let’s see, I’m not very fond of Lusus. I don’t particularly like any of the people I meet with for the court, they’re all fairly horrible, especially Tenor. I dislike many of the things the court makes me do. There’s so much more, too, but it’s a long list, and it would only bore both of us.”
Bronze - What is your favorite way to warm up when it’s cold?
Lace - “Coffee, and cuddling with Cue under a blanket if I can. That’s the first thing I did when I got back from the Shiverpeaks after finally finishing my wyld hunt. Second favorite is sharing a bed with someone exciting.”
Wrelia - “Blanket cape and baking. Embrant and I like to joke that we’re royalty, and the oven heats the whole kitchen up pretty well. Plus, we get food after we’re all warmed up!”
Rhosill - “I don’t usually need to, but if I do, then a campfire, and some hot cider.”
Aselif - “Cuddling up with Cayde is always nice. Even when I’m not cold.”
Sky - What is your favorite time of the day?
Lace - “Very late at night to very early in the morning. The wee hours, when everything is quiet, and it’s just you, the stars, and maybe some stray crickets. It’s so peaceful during that time.”
Wrelia - “Late morning! Making brunch with my wife when we both have a day off! And we laugh and joke and each food that should probably count as desert, but brunch has no rules~”
Rhosill - “It’s changed a lot over the years. Right now, it’s lunchtime.” He smiles a little. “You haven’t seen excited until you’ve seen a bunch of recruits being let out from their morning drills to go eat and hang out.”
Aselif - “Dawn, the moments before the sun rises. Responsibilities don’t exist during that brief period of time, and the sky just look beautiful. I wish I had more opportunities to be up then.”
Teal - What makes you feel most at peace?
Lace - “Quiet and solitude, or having complete and total control of a situation. Both together is especially nice.”
Wrelia - “Spending time with my friends! They’re all great people, and we all make each other feel loved and wanted and welcome! It’s a nice feeling, and it helps me forget some of the big problems I’m facing.”
Rhosill - He mimes holding his rifle. “Gun in hand, and a bandit or inquest bastard in my sights.”
Aselif - “When Cayde comes to my office to just sit with me while I work. He makes the work go quicker, and makes it easier to think. And it is also simply nice to hold him close while he gets a break.”
Violet - What is your ideal date?
Lace - “Cue and I built my house together, and we fucked in every room as we built them. I’d say that was pretty ideal!”
Wrelia - “Whenever Em pulls out the blanket fort again! We usually bake cookies, and sometimes other treat too, and we spend all day curled up together and having a relaxing time!. It’s the best. Embrant’s the best.”
Rhosill - “My... what? I dunno, have I ever been on a date?” He hasn’t, and he wouldn’t know how to go on one, or what he’d want from one.
Aselif - “Any chance I get to spend an entire day with Cayde. I’d love to take him out to see more of the world together with him at some point, but our responsibilities keep getting in the way of that.”
Lilac - How would someone win you over?
Lace - “There’s... well there’s a lot of intricacies to it, so it’s kind of hard to say.” They rub at the back of their head for a moment, thinking. “Well, if you aren’t looking for any serious sort of relationship or friendship, good, kinky sex is a very fast way to my heart. Longer term, respect my boundaries, respect my privacy, respect my triggers... really just show some fucking respect and don’t push for shit I haven’t given you permission to push for.”
Wrelia - “If you have any notes or research on necromancy, that’d be great! I just really like when people talk to me in general, though. I’m pretty easy to win over.”
Rhosill - “Uh, whiskey? I guess? Tvelle punched me, and I let the recruits all try and fail to beat me up, so I guess whiskey or kicking my ass?”
Aselif - “Usually, I’m the one doing the hard work of winning others over.”
Blush - Do you have a crush on anyone? If so, who is it?
Lace - They laugh. “Cue, pretty obviously! That’s why I’m dating him! Strair, too, I suppose, and Maric. I’m sleeping with all of them, though, so it’s not really a thing.”
Wrelia - “Does my wife count? Even though I already married her? Ummm, Sayeh al’ Rajihd was really cool. I only got to meet her like once, but I have a little bit of a crush on her still.”
Rhosill - “I don’t think so, no.”
Aselif - “I think you should have gotten the picture by now. I am taken.”
Cotton candy - Would you say you have a sweet tooth?
Lace - “No, that’s why I drink my coffee black. I don’t hate sweets, but I don’t love them either.”
Wrelia - She looks around a little awkwardly and giggles. “I think it’s pretty obvious that I do. I’d eat pastries for every meal if I could get away with it! Uncle Ruzzier caught me last time I tried though, and I got this whole lecture on the importance of a balanced diet.”
Rhosill - “Don’t really care how things taste at all, if I’m honest. So no, I don’t.”
Aselif - “Yes, I would. I especially love the sweetness of fresh fruit.”
Coconut - What would be your ideal vacation?
Lace - “I’m admittedly not a huge fan of vacations. I’d usually rather be working. But if I were to pick anything, I’d like to follow Cue while he goes to work and just spend the day watching him.”
Wrelia - “One that my mom, Laighe, takes. She can take all of mine for all I care, as long as she uses them and takes a break.”
Rhosill - “Fuck, I don’t need a vacation. I’m basically always on vacation already. Not like I have a job right now or anything.”
Aselif - “I’ve been told Elona is quite beautiful, and has an abundance of new plant and animal life that produce fascinating toxins and poisons. I’d love to take Cayde to Amnoon to explore, and spend some time working with the new materials I find there.”
Black - What is the darkest thing you’ve ever done?
Lace - They grin and quirk an eyebrow. “Are you sure you really want to hear that? I can go into some pretty intricate details about how I torture people, if that’s what you’re looking for. Like how I hung a man by his wrists and whipped him until he blacked out, then I healed his wounds and started the whole process over again. Or how I froze a woman’s lungs in her chest and watched her suffocate. Or the courtier whose legs I cut off one inch at a time after they tried to force Kvold back into the court. That was a good one.”
Wrelia - “I, uhm, I don’t really wanna talk about it... so how about I talk about this lil guy instead.” She holds up a strange looking rat, leaking a black tar-like substance. “I named him Jeremy. He’s awakened. I awakened him! Isn’t he cute? I guess this counts as dark, right? Well, I’m studying him with the hope that I can figure out some sort of way of treating the free awakened when they get sick or injured. It’s pretty cool, but just a side project. Taimi takes precedent right now.”
Rhosill - He shrugs. “Mass murdering a bunch of inquest when I was a sapling, maybe? My work as an assassin, could also count. Or my time with Scarlet. I’ve done a lot of very dark things. I only regret some of it.”
Aselif - “I’ve sold many of my fellow courtiers into worse lives than the ones they already had. And I’ve helped torture lots of people. The one that haunts me most was a knight from my own court, who I sold to one Lady Tenor. I see her around more often than I’d like. I haven’t seen the knight since. I don’t know if that’s better or worse.”

“Soft as Petals”
Fandom: Bandori/BanG Dream! Ship/Pairing: Ichigaya Arisa / Yamabuki Saya - Arisaya
Summary: Ichigaya Arisa wanted nothing to do with having a soulmate. It was rare. And more importantly; it was painful. So, when she starts vomiting flower petals from her lungs? She's clearly cursed. #hanahaki-disease, #soulmate-au
Available on AO3
Arisa felt cheated.
She'd read stories about worlds where soulmates simply shared pain or their names were magically shown on each other's wrists. Where someone saw in black and white until they met their soulmate. Hell, she’d even read about people who had timers on their skin, leading up to when they met their other half!
If only the world she lived in could be that easy.
No; soulmates were a cruel, difficult thing to have. They weren't super common as it were, but they existed. Not everyone had a soulmate. In fact, the vast majority of the population didn't.
Clinics existed for those who did and wanted to be rid of the problem. And many people did - many preferred to not find or love their soulmate as opposed to the sensation of vomiting flower petals every other hour on the daily. To rid themselves of the feeling of thorns in their throat.
It sounded much more romanticized and painless than it was. Who knew coughing up something as soft and pretty as flower petals tore up a person's esophagus and made them bleed? Movies made it out to be some beautiful thing and non soul-bonded folk hyped it up and fawned over the concept.
She stared into the toilet she had just hacked up into, glaring at the petals that hadn't quite made their way inside. As though they were mocking her.
Slightly curled white petals scattered about her, almost shaped like rose petals but not quite. Some of them - the most recent - were speckled with scarlet. Arisa smudged the blood dripping down her chin with the back of her hand as she glared at them with contempt.
Of course she had a soulmate.
Of course life couldn’t be easy for her. Arisa had learned early that life wasn’t an easy thing. Especially for her… Couldn’t catch a damn break, it seemed.
Arisa, of all people, wanted nothing to do with this whole soulmate thing. She’d never thought it was romantic or sweet, the way soulmates dealt with their issues. It was the worst! Most of the time soulmates didn’t even meet, since vomiting flowers wasn’t exactly a way to automatically know who your soulmate was! And most of the time people got them removed because they were disruptive and painful.
She rubbed at her throat, suddenly feeling tired and torn up.
She picked up a relatively clean petal and felt the velvety softness of it between the tips of her fingers. How odd, she thought, that something so soft and fragile could rip up my throat like that.
Kasumi and the others didn’t even know this had been going on. She wanted to keep it that way. She would rather not worry them. Especially if she was just going to get the damn buds removed in the end. Knowing them, they might even try to convince her to keep them.
They were all in a different class, anyway. It’s not like they knew how much she ran off during class to go puke flora. She greatly considered not going to school anymore, like she did before… the damn flowers only started showing up after she’d started attending again.
She was terrified that her soulmate was nearby.
The flowers didn’t start until a person met their soulmate face to face, after all.
What if it’s someone in Poppin’ Party?
She rarely allowed herself to follow that thought. Didn’t want to indulge herself in the ideas of one of her friends being her soulmate. It couldn’t be that easy. Yet… she couldn’t stop from imagining Saya’s bright, warm smile when she thought of who her soulmate could possibly be.
It didn’t make any sense though, as Saya didn’t seem to be having the same problems Arisa was having. In fact it seemed like Arisa was the only one in either class that even showed signs of having the disease.
So, instead, she opted to suffer in silence as more and more white petals fluttered from her lungs. She endured flurries of ivory as petals cascaded from her tired, ragged throat in a whirlwind; a storm. Alone and in relative silence.
Tae seemed to know something was up; she was much more observant than people gave her credit for. She seemed to just… know things, somehow. It was both odd yet endearing. But she’d been giving Arisa the side eye more and more frequently as her condition worsened.
The amount of times she’d been forced to excuse herself from their band practice sessions was increasing, she was loathe to admit. She was just glad she wasn’t the vocalist of the group! And while the others just worried she was overworking herself or getting sick, Tae seemed to be reserved with her concern.
“Arisa?” Tae voiced her thoughts one afternoon. The two of them were alone - a rare occurrence - as they waited on the others to arrive. “Are you hiding something from us?”
The girl in question grunted, trying not to let her surprise show through. She rubbed at her throat, not really thinking about it before waving off her bandmate.
“Nothing’s wrong, O-Tae. Don’t worry about it.”
“But I am worried.” Tae’s face was stern, serious. More so than Arisa could remember it being. “And so are the others.”
“Geh…” Of course they’d been talking about it. There was no way they weren’t all concerned with her, after running off all the time. Probably didn’t help when she refused to comment on it, either. “It’s… not that big of a deal.”
Tae gave her a piercing look before allowing the conversation to deviate away from dangerous territory. Arisa just didn’t want the others to be weirded out with her… like she was some sort of diseased, condition-ridded freak.
She’d been looking into clinics that offered removal services… But she found herself hesitating every time she went to call to make an appointment. As much as she wanted to permanently rid herself of these accursed petals… she still found herself wanting that connection with someone. And thus she found herself exploring the idea of being in love. As if someone would want to be in love with a person like her.
Saya had been showing signs of weariness in the times following Arisa’s confrontation with Tae. She had unusual bags under her eyes and her smiles didn’t quite reach her eyes, the way they always did. The way they were supposed to.
The girl immediately confided in the band, taking comfort in the support and presence of her friends. The exact opposite of Arisa…
“I think I have a soulmate,” Saya admitted one late afternoon as everyone packed up instruments and wrapped up the evening.
Arisa felt her heart lurch towards her throat, feeling the itch that pricked her lungs every time she so much as glanced in Saya’s direction. She looked up at her, dismayed.
The others gathered around, chittering excitedly.
“Oooh!” Kasumi’s voice was bubbly and thrilled. “Do you know who they are? What flowers are you growing?”
Saya laughed lightly, a lovely sound, as she entertained Kasumi’s prodding questions. “I don’t know who they are… But I’ve been coughing up daisy petals for a few weeks now. Sorry I didn’t tell you sooner, but I needed to let you guys know.”
“How do you know they’re daisies?” Arisa found herself piping up, almost against her will. She ignored the itching at the back of her throat as Saya’s sky blue eyes met her gaze.
“Oh, that’s the easy part.” Saya offered a smile, though it seemed confused as she rubbed at her own neck. “There’s lots of sites with flower languages and soulmate flower identifiers and stuff like that.”
“Oh…” Arisa hadn’t ever thought of that… She wondered what her own white petals were and what they meant.
“Yeah,” Saya continued, “I guess daisies mean purity, innocence, and true love. It’s so cute! I really want to meet them…”
Arisa ignored Rimi and Kasumi squealing and cooing as she stared right at Saya. She felt the burbling of petals building in her chest, dying to be let free. Before she could think - before she could even consider rushing out - she found herself in a coughing fit.
The others were around her immediately as she curled in on herself, her face in the crook of her elbow as she fought against the flurry of pain that battered against her gullet. She couldn’t see the bewildered expressions the others had as she hacked up petal after alabaster petal.
Saya stared at her with open awe. She moved, resting to a stop in front of her. Arisa’s skin burned as Saya’s gentle yet calloused hand grasped her wrist.
“Arisa?”
She couldn’t answer - she couldn’t breathe - as her coughing fit only worsened with the searing touch of Saya’s skin against her own.
Hands cupped her cheeks as she was forced to look into Saya’s eyes. The other girl had begun coughing herself, a single white petal resting on the bottom of her lip. It was thinner, more narrow than Arisa’s own thick petals… Not curled, but just as white.
The other members of Poppin’ Party seemed glued to their spots, unsure of how to proceed.
“Arisa?” she heard Saya’s voice, low and gentle, murmur by her ear. She felt her heart jolt and clench at their proximity. “Do… I guess this is a silly question, but do you have a soulmate?”
Arisa tried her best to glare, not quite succeeding as her eyes were watery.
“Is it me?” Saya asked in a tone that was too hopeful for Arisa’s comfort. As though she’d love nothing more for that to be true. As though being Arisa’s soulmate was something so desirable. “Are these gardenias for me?”
“You even know these ones too?” Arisa managed to get out, her voice shaky and cracked. “How much time did you spend researching this shit?”
“Gardenias… ‘They symbolize purity and sweetness. They indicate secret love. They convey joy. They tell the receiver they are lovely’.”
Arisa felt her cheeks brighten considerably as she grumbled, “Didn’t even answer my question…”
Saya grinned at her, something smug and teasing. “Do you think I’m lovely, Arisa?”
And, in a moment of sudden boldness, Arisa said, “Who wouldn’t?”
It was rare to see Saya’s cheeks bloom with the colors of spring, but Arisa found herself being treated to it. What a lovely sight it was… Arisa felt the aching of her lungs fade with the warmth of love as she went to swipe at the tears that had sprung from the seas of Saya’s eyes.
“Don’t cry, dummy…” Arisa chided halfheartedly. “I’m sorry for not saying anything sooner…”
She squeaked in surprise as Saya wrapped her into her arms, slender yet strong. Saya was openly crying as she said, “You’re always trying to take everything on by yourself…” her voice warbling.
“I know… I’m sorry.”
“I love you,” Saya said, as though they were the only ones in the room.
Arisa felt the thorns in her throat, in her lungs, wither in her chest as she was brought into a kiss as soft as petals.

Teav gave me a set of robes to commemorate my joining the guild. I tried them on, and found that they fit nicely, though I don’t really think orange is my color. Nor do I think I’ll be wearing them. I’m more of a leather armor gal. But it sure was nice of Teav to offer me some new duds and really make me feel like part of the organization. Now, I have my task; running around the guild castle, introducing myself to the crew.

First up was “Aster Cei,” as he also occupied the main hall. Aster Cei: “I am ‘Aster Cei’, resident cartographer. I also dabble in geology.” Trials: “Does that mean you study the Daedric letter ‘Geth’.” Aster Cei: “No, that’s a G-ologist.” Ruin: He stepped in, and quickly covered my snout, tugging me aside. “Let’s not get on this merry-go-round again.” Trials: I brushed Ruin’s hand away, and offered Aster Cei a hand in greeting. “Well, I’m Forged-Through-Trials, recent hire. And he’s my associate, Ruined-Tail.” Ruin: “Charmed.” Aster Cei: He shook my hand. “Ah, what is your specialty, if I may ask?” Trials: Drawing back, I cracked my knuckles demonstrably. “Punching people who mess with your dig-sites.” Aster Cei: “Oh? Are you here then to help us clear the Spire?” Trials: “The who-what-now?” Aster Cei: “We found it just last week; a mysterious black Spire in the West Weald, encrusted with oddly glowing glyphs unlike anything I’ve ever encountered before. “We’ve run into a few snags excavating it, but... well, I’ll let Teav explain it. I don’t wanna steal his thunder.”

Here’s the main hall, and here’s where I need to go to meet the other members of the guild. First up, since his door was near to Aster Cei’s little alcove, was “Domitian Verus.” So I rounded on the steps, climbed up, and quickly rushed into Verus’ quarters to meet the man himself.

About the first thing I noticed were the bottles littering the floor near him. As we approached, stepping carefully over said clattering bottles, we stood before an Imperial... who smelled heavily of spirits. Verus: Slurred. “Owyn sick again? Did you bring the booze?” Trials: “Hell yeah!” I cracked open a beer. Ruin: Snatched my beer away. “Trials, we’re on the job.” Verus: “Oh, y-you’re not the delivery-lizard? The Delizardry?” Trials: “Nope, I’m a new hire.” I offered him my hand. “Forged-Through-Trials, adventurer, extraordinaire! And my pal here is, ‘Ruined-Tail’.” Ruin: “A pleasure.” Verus: He took my hand and shook it. “I guess I got through to Teave after all. I’ve been telling him to hire some muscle, but he was hesitant. Said; ‘a jock would just slap our research papers out of our hands and dunk our heads in the toilet’. I said; ‘I could just out drink him to teach him a lesson.’“ Trials: “Hell yeah, I’m game! Let’s go!” I crack open another beer. Ruin: Snatched that one away, too. “Trials, on the job!” Verus: “They’ll be time for drinking, later. You’ve sure come at an exciting time, and I’m sure we’ll be cracking open celebratory beers soon enough.” Trials: “Oh yeah, Aster Cei mentioned something about a Spire, but he was evasive on the details.” Verus: “We don’t know too much about it, yet. Just that it’s neither Alyeid nor Daedric, and that alone has got me all excited!”

Next on the list was the High Elf “Sova.” Like most High Elves, she had her nose stuck so far in the air she could poke a new hole through to Aetherius. Sova: “I’m busy at the moment, stranger.” Trials: “...I’m just trying to be friendly, New-Coworker.” Sova: “Oh, you’re the new hire? You do have Ayleid history experience, don’t you?“ Trials: “That’s a big ‘N’ ‘O’ there, Captain.” Sova: “Well, what is your field of expertise?” Trials: Deadpan. “I hit things with a sword until they stop moving.” Sova: “Ugh! This isn’t the Fighters Guild, lizard! We do serious research here!” Trials: I narrowed my eyes at her. “Yeah, you’re gonna be seriously researching the inside of a toilet bowl if you keep givin’ me attitude, lady.” Sova: She recoiled a bit, frowning at me. “Ugh, this is why I told Teav we needed to hire me an assistant.” Trials: “So besides being a ray of sunshine, what do you do around here?” Sova: “I took over the main branch of our Ayleid research after our previous Guild Master, Solan, passed away. His... death was a great blow to our work, and set us back quite a bit, but under my wing I’ve caught up to him and am beginning to make progress anew. “He was particularly interested in the myths and legends surrounding an Alyeid king named ‘Aeon IV’. Trials: “Really? So what was the story of Aeon Flux?” Sova: “Confusing and pretentious as all hell. “But the story of Aeon IV was about how he once suppressed a great evil, and was deified by his people for it. When he died, he was entombed in an elaborate labyrinth beneath his citadel... or so the story goes. We’re missing most of the finer details, unfortunately, but it was Solan’s life’s goal to prove that the legends were true. “I only hope that I can grant that life’s goal and do his work justice.” Trials: “Wow... you must’ve really respected the man. I can appreciate that. If there’s anything I can do to help, I’d be glad to.” Sova: “Thanks for the offer. Listen, sorry about my harping. You’re just not what I expected.” Ruin: “She gets that a lot.” Sova: “I’ll get over it, though. Besides, Verus and Cei have their point. Your talents will come in handy, especially now.” Trials: “Aww, thanks. You’ll see; I’ll earn my keep yet.”

Next up was this Dark Elf lass, over in the southeast corner of the hall. Norlene: “May I direct you somewhere, or did you come to see me?” Trials: “At the risk of sounding like I’m trying to pick you up, I’m here to see you!” I offered her a hand in greeting. “I’m Forged-Through-Trials, and this here is Ruined-Tail. We’re new hires.” Ruin: “Greetings.” Norlene: She set her hand in mine to greet me. “Ah, fresh blood. Good to see you. I’m Norlene; Tamrielic Deity research is my forte. “How about you?” Trials: “I’m an adventurer.” Norlene: “Oooh, Sova’s not going to be happy to hear that. She’s been hounding Teav for an Alyeid expert.” Trials: “Oh, yes, we had the ‘pleasure’ of meeting Sova earlier. She’s about the most Tsundere person I’ve yet met.” Norlene: “Oh, you’re an Akiveeb, too? You’re going to be fun!” She giggled softly. “Sova might not appreciate your talents, but as for me, there’s been plenty of times where I could have used a knight in shining armor.” Trials: “...” I flushed and rubbed the back of my neck. “Is it too late to go back and ply a better pickup line than; ‘I’m here to see you’?” Norlene: She gave me a warm smile. “I’d listen, but unfortunately I’m swamped with work at the Spire. I haven’t even had time for my own studies.” Trials: “What were you studying before the Spire took over your workload?” Norlene: “Oh, the disappearance of the goddess ‘Luminai.’ I first learned about her while helping Sova go through Solan’s notes. Alyeid votive tablets mentioned her and how the Alyeids would offer her prayers, but there’s little information on her beyond her name. “Was she benevolent? Was she powerful? Did she even exist? She could have a long-lost shrine somewhere, awaiting discovery. On the other hand, it could all be myth.”

Once we’d introduced ourselves to the important players, we doubled-back to Teav to report in. Trials: “We’ve met the crew. So what’re we doing now?” Teav: “Good, good. Now you’re ready for your first proper assignment. “Just a week ago we’ve discovered a new, never-before-seen type of ruin.” Trials: “Oh cool, that was about the time I met my Ruin.” Ruin: “It’s really only been a week? Feels like it’s been longer.” Teav: “...” He shook his head. “No, I mean the ‘ancient, filled with treasure’ kind of ruin.” Trials: “Oh! Yeah, the others mentioned a Spire. What’s the deal, there?” Teav: “We’re not sure, yet. All we know is that it is not Ayleid, nor Daedric. We’ve been excavating it, and found an elaborate cave system that might give us access to an otherwise blocked-off antechamber. However, we’ve heard noises coming from deeper within the cave, and I’ve deemed it too dangerous for us to excavate or explore further. “This is, of course, where you come in.” Trials: “Uh-huh, at least you’re up front with asking me to walk into a lion’s den. Well, I suppose this is what I signed up for. I’ll get back to you once it’s clear.”
