thinking  about   the  family  that  reaches  out  to  johanna  after  they  find  out  she’s  alive  and  how  to  contact  her  and  her  complicated  feelings  because  she  doesn’t  want  to  be  apart  of  a  family  where  her  father  was  a  murderer,  but  also  she  secretly  years  to  know  more  about  her  parents  and  know  them  more  as  people  not  two  bloody  corpses  on  the  ground  and  how  part  of  her  wants  to  have  a  family  and  just  how  difficult  it  all  is  for  her  even  though  she  feels  like  it  should  be  easier  because  this  is  her  family,  isn’t  it?  why  doesn't  she  want  to  be  apart  of  them?

but  also  on  the  topic  of  her  name,  imagine  lucy  and  benjamin  deciding  what  their  baby’s  name  will  be  if  she’s  a  girl  and  fawning  over  the  name  johanna  and  deciding  not  to  give  her  a  middle  name  because  when  she  gets  married  she  can  use  her  maiden  name  as  a  middle  name  and  they’ll  always  be  tied  to  each  other  as  a  family  in  name  but  then  when  johanna  does  get  married,  she  requests  that  the  name  barker  isn’t  apart  of  her  name  at  all  after  the  wedding  because  she  does  not  want  to  be  associated  with  that  family  and  all  the  shame  and  guilt  she  carries  with  her  because  of  it  and  being  free  of  the  barker  name  means  she’s  only  tied  to  that  legacy  through  blood
