I've listened to over 300 new releases from over 100 different kpop artists this year so picking my top songs felt like an mnet-level survival show 😭 the irony that i never watched Boys Planet AND one of the songs is literally a Peak Time song is not lost on me ! 🙃 but i wanted to pick a trendy format so here we are 😈 anyways i included albums instead of songs that didn't make the cut since there's too many honorable mention songs that i have had on repeat this year 😭 but most of them are in these 22 albums (oo-li is on here twice and istj isn't out yet !)
if u like my gif template, here's the link ! pls credit me ty <3

Oh wait, I just seen that you recently started liking OnlyOneOf? 👀
I LOVE ONLYONEOF. I actually got into them back in the beginning of October 2022. I saw a TikTok of the choreo for Libido and I was like wait why is it gay and immediately ran to YouTube and spiraled down the rabbit hole. The first 2 Underground Idol songs/videos had just come out and I became a fan just in time for Junji to release Be Mine. OOO was actually the second K-pop group I got into a couple weeks after getting into BTS. It has spiraled since then and I actively keep up with like 8 or 9 groups now. I like so many groups tho it’s a mild problem.

Why BUB actually fits into OOO's catalogue
Bump Up Business has been criticised for many things, and don’t get me wrong, it’s far from perfect, but there is one question I have heard a lot: “Why did OnlyOneOf of all people choose to do this? Doesn’t this show play exactly into the thing we have been defending them of?”
My own answer to this is yes and no. But let me explain.
In this I will not be discussing what the writers had in mind, because I don’t know them. But I’ll talk about why I think it makes sense OnlyOneOf would tell this kind of story, whether they actually had any say in choosing this drama or not.
The main argument for most peoples' criticism I’ve seen is “This show is about/glorifying queerbaiting.” But is it really? Both of the characters are already queer. Jihoon has dated at least one man and is very aware of his own sexuality. Eden is quickly established as being very insecure in his own sexuality, not because he’s straight, but because he’s queer and finds that hard to accept. So the show is about queer characters.
Okay, so how does the queerbaiting fall into this? Obviously there is queerbaiting present. Their company practically forces them to do it. Eden is very reluctant, but agrees after the company gives him an ultimatum. Jihoon is less reluctant, but also in a tight spot. He has fallen off and this is seemingly his last chance to save his career, something he wouldn’t give up even for the man he loved. So the characters take no pleasure in the queerbaiting, but is it a problem to them? Yes, actually. It is made clear that they have trouble telling apart what is real feelings and what’s just work. In episode 4 for example Jihoon asks Eden if he is struggling with their concept after Eden revealed how insecure he is in his sexuality. The question comes from a place of caring and honesty. Eden then answers that he is okay because it’s "just work". Since emotions and their hidden identities are now part of their work it gets all muddled and confusing for them.
You might say now “But that’s not the problem with queerbaiting! They’re leading their fans on!” And from a fan’s perspective I agree. They are leading them on. But this isn’t about fans, this show is about idols. What would it be like for a queer idol to work in an industry where you are urged to act queer but to never be queer? How would that affect your personal life?
In the drama the queer characters hide their identity. Even after Hyunbin spread these awful rumours about Jihoon, they don’t reveal their relationship. Evidently having rumours about being with women is still better than revealing that you’re gay. The entire time they keep any real relationships under wraps.
On top of that, in a way Eden has to out himself for his job. Even though he of course isn’t allowed to be actually queer, acting this lovey-dovey with another man in public sure must feel like he’s coming out and he is clearly uncomfortable with that. Interviewers and netizens are constantly questioning their relationship as well. Are they gay? Are they straight? Do they naturally act that way? Is the company forcing them? Having all your actions be scrutinised and dissected like this, especially as a closeted queer person is terrifying.
Once again I’m not claiming that the writers wanted to represent queer idols’ struggles, but I think you can understand how this might be able to be read that way, especially by idols themselves.
Now how does this fit in with OnlyOneOf’s usual work, besides the obvious queer element? For that I’d like to remind you of June 2022. That is the month we started off the undergrOund idOl project. If you’re like me, then that name probably made you question it. What does it mean? I remember theories about it being about struggling as a relatively unknown group and things along those lines. Luckily they gave us hints in several articles by letting us know that the series is about “the inner side of idols who shine on stage”. Okay, cool! So is it about struggles with fame? Like a glimpse behind the mask? Let’s look at the videos! Hm… Not much about idol life here actually… They’re all just.. queer? How curious. Almost as if they want to highlight the queerness so many idols or celebrities have to hide?
So OnlyOneOf, a group whose behaviours and sexualities are constantly being dissected and who is famous for telling and highlighting genuine queer stories, even connecting those stories to what idols have to hide, choose a drama that is about queer idols who have to navigate their queerness in an industry that demands “fake queerness” but has no room for real queer people. This doesn’t actually seem that surprising to me. Does it to you?
Last comments:
I don’t think that BUB is a critical masterpiece tastefully portraying the harsh reality of queer celebrities. I think that the producers and writers did not do a good job and that OnlyOneOf’s own work is a lot better. But I can absolutely see how this story fits into the larger picture and why this could be appealing to them. I don’t know if they even had any say in doing the drama to begin with. But I just wanted to provide a different point of view. Maybe someone found this interesting at least <3

OnlyOneOf S Cawaii! Men summer 2022 Interview
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Thank you to tiny_ly0n @ twitter for the pics
This one is massive and full of interesting tidbits and insights into the members and their relationships! I really recommend reading the whole thing.
Translation under cut
[comments in (parenthesis) are the original article, comments in [brackets] are from me]
Profile → OnlyOneOf
OnlyOneOf is a boys group that debuted in 2019 in Korea. Their name holds the meaning of "being someone's one person". They're also nicknamed OnOff [in Korea and in Japan] or abbreviated as OOO. Their fans are called lyOns.
Yoojung Birthday: 1997.5.29 Blood type: A Pitch us your charm point: I'm confident in both my coolness and cuteness!
It's embarrassing to say myself, but it's how I'm simultaneously cool and cute. (embarrassed) My special skill is girl group dances! And I'm the alarm clock of the group. I'm the one who wakes up the earliest, so I wake the others. I don't like rushing to get ready so I wake up early so I can take my time. It doesn't mean that I go to sleep early, though. (laughs)
Junji Birthday: 1998.4.6 Blood type: B Pitch us your charm point: Mysterious Guy with the charm of a cat
I don't quite know what my charm point is myself. (laughs) The other members often say that I'm like a cat, so maybe that's my charm? In terms of skills, I'm quick to learn choreography. But my dancing and singing are still lacking, so I study hard.
Rie Birthday: 1996.11.6 Blood type: A Pitch us your charm point: My soft peach-like cheeks
I have twinkling eyes and plump lips so everything about me is round, I think that's my charm point. In the group, the others members help out with this as well, but I often create and arrange choreography, so that could be considered my special skill.
Nine Birthday: 1999.12.13 Blood type: O Pitch us your charm point: My cute and happy smile
It's not something I practice in particular, but when I'm with the other members I'm always filled with happiness and I naturally wind up laughing. I smile a lot in general so even now it seems like I'm smiling for no reason. (laughs) During concerts, fans' smiles have me smiling in return.
KB Birthday: 1992.04.23 Blood type: AB Pitch us your charm point: Muscular hot body — did I answer that too quickly?
My body muscular like Tom Hardy's — it's a hot body. Did I answer that too quickly? (laughs) I'm particularly confident in my back muscles. Even when I'm the one seeing it I think my back looks nice and muscular! I usually train while watching Youtube imparting to me the secrets of bulking up. I do both muscle training and martial arts, so I'll be progressing to Marvel hero next. I'm aiming for the role of Spiderman's best friend! (laughs)
Mill Birthday: 1999.03.30 Blood type: B Pitch us your charm point: A large array of expressions and gestures!
I can do a large array of expressions and gestures, so when you see me on stage you might think, this boy is good at lots of things! I practice in front of the mirror a lot, and study by watching the performances of more experienced singers. Recently I keep watching videos of Justin Bieber's concerts.
Individual interviews
Kyubin
Q1: What is the song you would like someone who is listening to OnlyOneOf for the first time to hear?
→ libidO
That would be libidO, in which both Nine and I participated for the composition and arrangement. It's a song that expresses our concept very strongly, and that we completed after a lot of research and many twists and turns, so it's one I'm very proud of. I'm the type who will record over and over again until I'm satisfied, so I'm confident in the final product.
Q2: Was this your first time in Japan? What are some fun things you did and food you enjoyed?
I've been to Fukuoka and Osaka before. In Fukuoka I went to an onsen. In Osaka I went to the city square in the centre of Umeda, and I went as far as Kyoto and Kobe. I also wore getas [traditional Japanese sandals]. They were extremely painful on the back of my feet, so walking was an effort to the end. The purpose of that trip was shopping, I wasn't too fussed about food. I was actually travelling on the cheap so there was no money to spend on food, everyday was (in Japanese) only gyudon [extremely cheap dish of rice topped with beef]. One bowl, regular size. It sure got tough towards the end. Coming to Japan this time, I was moved by how good the draft beer is! I drank it every day like I've never drunk before. (laughs) The yakitori was also delicious. And there was a dish I liked… What was it? (Nine next to him tells him) Right, that! Stuffed bell pepper and toasted cheese skewers. It was so good.
Q3: Your "I feel happy as long as I have this" top 3?
→ lyOns → cool clothes → muscles (laughs)
lyOns are my driving force. I'm into fashion, so wearing cool clothes also puts me in a good mood. I like clothes with designs that are strange or slightly futuristic. And the third one is muscles! They're essential for exerting strength, right? I feel like my lower body is still thin, so I need to work harder on my glutes and lower body.
Q4: The Korean wave is so popular! Please recommend a Korean movie or drama
→ Vincenzo
The story is interesting, and the side character Nam Joon Su was excellent. (imitates the line "Mr Lawyer ~")
Q5: Please also recommend a Korean food!
→ spam → kimchi → white rice
Spam, kimchi and white rice are a three-ingredient set! When your mom's not home, you've got to figure out a meal for yourself, right? During those times I'd cook some spam and put it on top of rice with kimchi. I'd enjoy it but if I cooked it while my mom was home it would taste less nice. What a mystery. Is it because mom's cooking is the best?
Junji
Q1: What is the song you would like someone who is listening to OnlyOneOf for the first time to hear?
→ libidO
Please listen to libidO! It's powerful, memorable and addictive. When we were performing this song on music shows, I was wearing extensions and my hair reached to my shoulders. So you can tell it's libidO just from looking at my hair length. (laughs) It's much shorter now.
Q2: Was this your first time in Japan? What are some fun things you did and food you enjoyed?
It was my first time in Japan, but it's been full of fun things! But the best among them was to eat all this delicious food. Gyukatsu [fried beef cutlet] and Ichiran ramen were delicious, but my favourite is the draft beer. It was so good! Gyukatsu is also delicious, it's so soft that it feels like you're drinking it rather than eating it, the way it melts in your mouth. But there's still so many foods I've yet to try, I want to know everything that's delicious. Please teach me!
Q3: Your "I feel happy as long as I have this" top 3?
→ lyOns → my ring → draft beer
Thanks to Japanese lyOns, we were able to come to Japan. We strive to become artists that you can all be proud of. The second one is this ring that I'm always wearing. I've been wearing it for about ten years now, so I feel uneasy without it. I bought it in Incheon, the engraving used to be black but it's all chipped away by now. I definitely didn't think we'd be together this long — even when I think I've lost it somewhere, it always reappears unexpectedly. I always lose my things but this ring is the one thing I haven't lost. The third one is draft beer. (laughs) Draft beer is the best!
Q4: The Korean wave is so popular! Please recommend a Korean movie or drama
→ Twenty-Five Twenty-One
Among the ones I've watched recently, Twenty-Five Twenty-One really left an impression. Two characters have a fated meeting, welcome their separation, and go on to show their memories beautifully… It moved me. I'm not the type to watch dramas, but this one was great. I recommend it!
Q5: Please also recommend a Korean food!
→ jokbal → bossam → mak-guksu
These three are a perfect combo. It's an amount that you can easily eat by yourself, I think. Mak-guksu is similar to bibim-guksu (a cold noodle dish mixed with red pepper and various ingredients) but it's made with buckwheat noodles. When you eat it with jokbal and bossam, it's heavenly. It's so delicious it surpasses rice.
Mill
Q1: What is the song you would like someone who is listening to OnlyOneOf for the first time to hear?
→ dOra maar
I recommend dOra maar. I'd love it if you could watch it focusing on my various expressions, from cool winks to pained faces. To be honest, when I debuted I couldn't actually wink. If you watch our Music Core stage you'll see what I mean. (laughs) Since then I've practised a lot, and it was around that time that I succeeded.
Q2: Was this your first time in Japan? What are some fun things you did and food you enjoyed?
It was the first time! The air is so clear in Japan, it's beautiful. There are so many places that I wanted to take pictures of so every time we had some time I'd take pictures.
Q3: Your "I feel happy as long as I have this" top 3?
→ rice → sports → TV
I love rice! Whenever I eat it with kimchi and jeyuk bokkum (stir-fried pork) I feel happy. What I want to eat right now is my mom's cooking. Her kimchi stew and soybean paste stew are both incredible. The second one is sports. I've played football since I was young, so playing sports makes me feel good. When I go back to Korea, I want to try to start swimming again, which I haven't been able to do for the past 2-3 years. The last one is TV. Dramas, films, variety… I watch all of it. I also watch almost all the popular Japanese animes: Your Name, Tokyo Revengers, Haikyuu, A Whisker Away… Recently, I watched the anime movie Bubble with Junji.
Q4: The Korean wave is so popular! Please recommend a Korean movie or drama
→ Twenty-Five Twenty-One
It's a drama that depicts the youth of two people in 1998 Korea. In 1998, my parents were university students. It's a time when you only had pagers and couldn't contact people easily, right? While watching this drama, I also felt like I was living in that time.
Q5: Please also recommend a Korean food!
→ bulgogi meal set
I recommend Korean meal sets in general. In Korea we call those "baekban", and the restaurants specializing in them "baekbanchip". There are plenty throughout the country. They're cheap and delicious and bustling with taxi drivers. My favourite is the bulgogi meal set from the place near my home. The exact address is a secret. (laughs) If you want to eat something delicious in Korea, I recommend asking a taxi driver for a recommendation.
Rie
Q1: What is the song you would like someone who is listening to OnlyOneOf for the first time to hear?
→ dOra maar
Our debut album "dot point jump" was [first of] the so-called "dot - line - surface" series where dots assemble to form a line, and then become a surface. But at the time, while we had an idea of what we wanted our music to sound like, we weren't really able to explain it in concrete terms. We always said we wanted to make our own music different from others', but if asked "what music would that be?" we couldn't precisely answer "that kind!" Personally I think dOra maar might be what defined the group's colour. So if you're listening to us for the first time, I'd like you to listen to dOra maar. We did our first broadcast performance of this song on January 30 2020 in front of fans, but from the very next day, fans weren't allowed to watch performances anymore. So we also keenly remember how unfortunate we thought it was at the time… Both the song and choreography are good, so it would have made more of an impact if it had been performed in front of people, that kind of thought.
Q2: Was this your first time in Japan? What are some fun things you did and food you enjoyed?
The people are kind, the food is delicious, the views are gorgeous. It was my first time in Japan, but my older sister loves the country and she went a lot before Covid-19. Coming to Japan now, I understood why she loves it so much. She also loves the food and told me to try the egg sandwich from Seven Eleven. I ate it and it really was delicious.
Q3: Your "I feel happy as long as I have this" top 3?
→ lyOns → phone → money
It's because of fans that we were able to come to Japan and do these events, so lyOns are vital to me. We visit many places, learn many things, study Japanese, but there are still many things we don't know, so I also need my phone to make notes and research things later. Lastly, you need money to eat delicious things. (laughs) I think you need at least a little bit of it.
Q4: The Korean wave is so popular! Please recommend a Korean movie or drama
→ In Our Prime
The film "In Our Prime" that was released in Korea recently was really good. I really like the actor Choi Min-sik. Until now he's played mostly bad guys or more intense roles, but in this film he plays a mathematical genius who's a softer kind of person, it made me think he really is an actor who can make you believe any story. When it comes to dramas I recently watched Killing Time, it was also interesting.
Q5: Please also recommend a Korean food!
→ Baekban
a.k.a meal sets. There's rice and various dishes like bulgogi, I love them.
Yoojung
Q1: What is the song you would like someone who is listening to OnlyOneOf for the first time to hear?
→ dOra maar
I think this song is what solidified our image and concept into its current shape, so I really want people to listen to it. The melody and lyrics are both great, but I also think that we perform it especially beautifully. It's a song where our members' vocals stand out. It's also a song where I sing the chorus for the first time, so I'm emotionally attached to it.
Q2: Was this your first time in Japan? What are some fun things you did and food you enjoyed?
Convenience stores were the most memorable part. Japanese convenience stores are a whole new world! I prefer desserts over meals, and the cream-filled breads were especially delicious. I want to eat proper meals too but since I want to eat all the convenience store sweets I just keep eating those. (laughs) The most delicious wasn't a dessert, though, it was the gyukatsu. And the fruit sandwiches were also great. I also eat one of those jello cups once a day.
Q3: Your "I feel happy as long as I have this" top 3?
→ lyOns → vitamin supplements → lavender oil
Thanks to lyOns we're able to promote happily; it's why OnlyOneOf exists, I think. The second is vitamin supplements. You're supposed to take them every day and feel the effects after a while, but as soon as I take them I feel more energetic and less tired. The third one is the lavender oil I carry with me for when I'm nervous and can't calm down. I put 2 or 3 drops in my hands and smell, and my mind calms.
Q4: The Korean wave is so popular! Please recommend a Korean movie or drama
→ Twenty-Five Twenty-One
I don't watch dramas much, but Mill, Junji and I all love this one, to the point where we can talk about it for an entire day. There's many lines that will resonate in your heart, so I hope you'll watch it. I watched it after it was first recommended by a fan. I thought I'd only try the first episode but before I knew it it was the middle of the night and I was watching the sixth episode, and got hooked to the point that I started following it on-air. It's a story that will have you recalling the nostalgic memories of youth, but there are also fencing scenes in it. I've actually wanted to learn fencing since I was a child, these feelings resurfaced while watching this drama.
Q5: Please also recommend a Korean food!
→ Tteokbokki with ssaltteok made from rice flour
There's plenty, but tteokbokki is the one that I want to recommend. Because it's the one I want to eat the most currently. (laughs) When it comes to tteokbokki there's actually miltteok made from wheat flour and ssaltteok made from rice flour, ssaltteok is the one I'd like you to eat. Both of them vary depending on where you're eating it, but ssalteok is more tasty and chewy, so it's the one I like.
Nine
Q1: What is the song you would like someone who is listening to OnlyOneOf for the first time to hear?
→ Please listen to our songs in order!
All our albums are linked by a storyline, from the first to the most recent. So I recommend listening to them in order from OnlyOneOf yOu, the first track of our first album "dot point jump", all the way to re-bidO, the last track of our most recent album "Instinct Part.2". So basically, listen to all our songs! (laughs) You'll get to feel the character of our music as well as our growth as artists, I think.
Q2: Was this your first time in Japan? What are some fun things you did and food you enjoyed?
It was my first time in Japan! When we landed in Japan, while waiting at the airport for our PCR test results, there was a very cool-looking person in front of me, and it turned out to be Akiyama Yoshihiro [also known as Choo Sung Hoon, Korean-Japanese martial artist]. I thought it was an auspicious beginning for our Japanese promotions. Japanese food is all so delicious. I especially liked dorayaki [red bean-filled pancakes]. I've eaten it in Korea, but the one from Seven Eleven is especially good. We also went to a yakitori [grilled chicken] restaurant. I loved the gizzard and thighs in particular. I ate them five by five. (laughs)
Q3: Your "I feel happy as long as I have this" top 3?
→ (in Japanese) sleepy-time → energy drink → members
I want to say lyOns, my family, and the other members… But that would be too obvious so I'll try to think of something different. First is sleep. (in Japanese) Sleepy-time. If I have just five minutes, I can sleep anytime, anywhere. That might be my special skill! Energy drinks are one of the things I always have in my bag. In Japan also I always carried Red Bull or Monster with me. I was surprised by the amount of Monster flavours available in Japan. The pineapple-flavoured Ultra Gold was nice. For the last one, can I say the other members after all? Just being with them is fun and makes me happy. Just for this, I'm grateful for them.
Q4: The Korean wave is so popular! Please recommend a Korean movie or drama
→ Hospital Playlist
I recommend Hospital Playlist, in which Jo Jung-suk and Yoo Yeon-seok star. I like hospital dramas in general, but this one is especially realistic at recreating the medical world, it was very fun to watch. The storyline continues between season 1 and 2, so I recommend watching both.
Q5: Please also recommend a Korean food!
→ Ramyeon → Egg fried rice
Bunsik (light meal restaurant) ramen! But what I really like is my mom's egg dish. You have egg fried rice in Japan too, right? I can't cook so ever since I left home I haven't been able to eat it much, so KB took pity on me and made it for me! After I added soy sauce and ate it, it tasted exactly like my mom's cooking, it made me emotional. I don't know how many times I said thank you. (laughs)
→ Tell us what you like and respect about each member!
Yoojung
→ To KB: He's a thoroughly self-possessed person. And I think the way he's always thinking about how to grow and improve himself is wonderful. → To Junji: His mind is wonderful! He's such a positive person. I'm always fretting over everything, so the way Junji only looks forward is something I want to learn from. → To Mill: He's always cheerful and invigorating the group. I'm jealous of Mill's innate brightness. → To Rie: He has a delicate, soft image. His voice is also beautiful, he's a person with a lot of qualities. → To Nine: He's a boy with so many talents, I also want to learn from the way he's always striving to improve himself.
Nine
→ To KB: All the things that people now praise me for, I've learned from KB. In the past I had a child's mentality and immature sides, but by learning so many things from KB I was able to become an adult. It's not something I'd be able to say in front of him, but I'm very grateful to him. → To Junji: Junji is my hyung that I adooore. Just looking at him makes me want to laugh, or more like, he makes me feel happy. I think Junji's "enigmatic-ness" is one of our group's advantages. → To Mill: He's upstanding and positive. I also respect his selflessness. For example, if someone's carrying a lot of luggage, he'll carry it for them. And then he'll forget his own luggage because of that. (laughs) He prioritises others to that extent. → To Rie: Rie's singing voice is wonderful. If I had to compare it to a colour, it would be sky blue. I love his vocals when singing The Little Prince (by Ryeowook of Super Junior). It really is a heavenly voice! With stronger vocal control, I'm expecting him to progress even more. → To Yoojung: Yoojung is a beautiful person. Especially when he dances, I'm enchanted by the way he uses his body. His forte is copying girl group dances, and he can also memorize dances immediately without practising! When it comes to girl group covers, I think he's incontestably the number 1 in k-pop.
Mill
→ To KB: KB is a reliable hyung who takes care of the other members. When I'm troubled or need to be comforted, I always go to KB to talk. For me, he's a healing presence. → To Junji: We're the fusional friends together 24/7. We understand each other to the point that there's nothing we don't know about the other. I like that no matter what I say, he will understand and acknowledge me. → To Rie: Rie loves eating, so he's my teacher in finding good places to eat. I also like that he treats me when we go eat together. Ahahah. Rie is the one in the team with the biggest gap between his stage persona and his personality. I think he gives off the impression of an animated person, but off stage he's fairly shy. It's cute. → To Nine: Nine is the same age as me but in some aspects feels older, I really respect his musical knowledge. He teaches me about singing, and I teach him about dancing. He's the comrade-in-arms that runs next to me pursuing the same goal. I'm happy that we recently started playing football together as well. → To Yoojung: Yoojung regularly takes care of me! Since we were trainees, we'd play RPG games or FPS games together a lot. Either against each other or as teammates. By the way, when it comes to video games, I'm sliiightly better than him.
KB
→ To Junji: He's great at dancing, it's so cool. I'm a fan of Junji's powerful, dynamic dancing. The way his dancing shines on stage always moves me. In private, I don't know what he's thinking at alll. He's enigmatic? Right, he's an enigma. (laughs) → To Mill: He's a boy so full of energy. On stage his expressions overflow with confidence, he feels reliable. If there's something that both he and I want to use, he'll say "I'm fine, use it hyung!" and give it to me, his selflessness is wonderful. → To Rie: Rie is someone who can dance while controlling his body perfectly. In particular, I'm charmed by how beautiful the lines of his body are while dancing. → To Nine: First of all, before anything else, (in Japanese) his face is amazing. He's already good-looking without makeup, but with stage makeup the sexiness piles on and he becomes lethally good-looking. Also, he's skillful in everything. He's good at singing, his sense of pitch is also good, I wish I had those abilities. → To Yoojung: In one word, he's The Idol. It wouldn't be an exaggeration to say he was born to be an idol. The other members generally have aspects that aren't so idol-like, but Yoojung, he's an idol even in his daily life. And then when he stands on stage the glimmer multiplies, I think that's the strength of an idol.
Junji
→ To KB: He's an idea man. He comes up with various ideas to the point where I think, where did he come up with that? Just one time, I'd like to become KB and take a peek into his mind. → To Mill: He's got a personality that relaxes whoever he's with. He likes playing around. He plays a lot of pranks. Mill and I have a Tom and Jerry relationship. (laughs) → To Rie: He's delicate with a deep sensitivity, and tries to understand the feelings of other people. Even though it's not easy, being able to empathize with people and cry with them is a wonderful thing, I think. → To Nine: Nine is a person of many talents. And he's always helping everyone. He's a member who highly values teamwork. He's competent to the point where I wonder if there is anything he can't do. → To Yoojung: He's interesting to me. He's always playing pranks on me, he likes them to an astonishing amount. He's a bit strange. (laughs) But his way of playing pranks is always kind and funny. He's also charmingly cat-like.
Rie
→ To KB: He's an utterly self-possessed person. The way he has his own clearly defined value system and his own personal path is very cool. → To Junji: He's cat-like, and likes to play around, and there are a lot of ways in which you could say he's a little different, but from the way I see it Junji is the one with the warmest heart. He's not great at expressing himself, you could say he's cat-like in that way, but he always manages to convey the warmth in his heart, so just having him by your side is reassuring. He also gives a lot of feedback to the members. → To Mill: He's a mischevious kid, and the social lubricant between members. You can't get mad at him no matter what kind of prank he plays, or should I say, his cute side is his charm point. He feels very much like a maknae, and he's necessary to the members. For the group to come together as one, Mill turns out to play a big role. → To Nine: He has a strong sense of responsibility, and a strong determination to do his utmost to carry the things he's entrusted with to the end. He's younger than me, but so reliable that he sometimes seems older, I need to learn from him. → To Yoojung: He's got a diligent personality, and pays attention even to things that other people don't notice. It's also the case for other members, but the way he responds to fans is wonderful. He also watches the other members closely, he's someone who will secretly cover for mistakes that another has made without even noticing it themselves.
KB, Mill, Nine interview
Q: What special skill do each of you have?
KB: I'm proud of my sense of humour. I've always liked to make people laugh, but I've become funnier lately. Nine: (in Japanese) Yes, yes, absolutely. KB: I study humour by watching funny movies and various type of comedies. Recently I've been into the American TV show Brooklyn 99. It's really funny, I'm howling while watching it. Mill: He really does howl. (laughs) Personally, my forte is sports. Especially football, I've participated in a national tournament before. Also swimming and bowling… Right, the three of us are the bowling trio. Before Covid-19 we all went bowling together a lot. Nine: Mill really is good at bowling. His average score is around 170, 180 points? Mill: Around 150 points. I feel like there were a lot of games where I was easily winning against KB, only for him to beat me at the end… KB: Right. I suddenly became good. I scored around 200 points, didn't I? Well, my humour level is still higher. Nine: Your humour score is around 280 points? (laughs) As for me, I don't have a special skill… KB: You're being modest again! You can do so many impressions, right? Nine: Which ones… I can imitate the sound of water droplets falling into a bucket. Plop, plop, plop. (KB and Mill are silent for a moment, then start snickering) Nine: Come ooon! That's why it's a skill I'm not particularly proud of! Ah… Why did I do this… (teary-eyed)
Q: What were your impressions of your first Japanese concert?
Mill: A lot more people came than expected, so I was very nervous. At the end, the audience did a surprise event for us. It was so touching, I ended up crying. I cry a little easily. Nine: Even in Korea, we'd never had a solo concert before. So everything about this concert was memorable. Above all I was touched by how the fans waited for us. After all, we told them we were coming to see them, but we couldn't for two years. Not seeing someone for two whole years, in a friendship, that's called ghosting. (KB and Mill burst out laughing) Even more touching were the people who before Covid-19 had come all the way to Korea to see us, and were there at the concert. We recognised them even with masks. Seeing a familiar face is so deeply moving, like, "Oh they're still supporting us after all this time." KB: Right! We were like, "Ah, there's someone over there, there's someone over there as well." We're so thankful for that devotion, Japanese lyOns are (in Japanese) amazing. So cool. Nine: We also pledge devotion to our fans! KB: Yoojung was the most nervous about this concert, wasn't he. Nine: He was so incredibly nervous, so I was teasing him backstage. "What are you so nervous for ~", that kind of thing. I thought it might ease the stress. This said, I was also very nervous.
Q: Your stylish visuals and concept gives you an aloof image. What about your true selves?
KB: We all have bright personalities and love fooling around… So we're completely different from that image. Mill: We've lived together for six years, since we were trainees, but every day at our dorm is still lively like a birthday party or a school trip night. Nine: We're very much not chic people. (laughs) We often seem cool, but if the boiling point of water is a hundred degrees, then we always keep ourselves at ninety-nine degrees. Hot, hot! KB: In our hearts burns a passion hot like magma. Nine: Our fans also have that gap between their public image and their true selves, so they're not very different from us, right? Fufu.
Q: You're also known for having famous Korean composers such as Gray and Boycold write songs for you. Please recount a memorable episode about each of them.
Nine: Each of them kindly acknowledged us as individual artists. While working they kept asking for our opinions, "How is this?", "How do you want to do this?" and I was very thankful for that show of respect. In the behind-the-scenes video of a past recording session, Samuel Seo complimented us warmly saying we were all "great guys", I was so touched watching that. I was glad to be able to work again with him on suit dance. Mill: I have great memories of recording the rap part of a sOng of ice&fire in GroovyRoom's studio. KB: Even during the recording Gray was always smiling and encouraging us saying, "It's okay," "You're doing great." He also listened to the songs we wrote and gave us insights on them, "You should do this that way." He's a really kind person.
Q: You've also received accolades from western media, such as, "They've got an artistic concept" or "They're doing something new".
KB: It's something we've researched very hard, so to have it acknowledged like this makes us very happy. We strive to become a group with a sensitivity to artistic and delicate music, it's what fuels us. We'll study more, do more trial and error. Nine: Just having people know us makes me happy. We always say we want to become #1 on Billboard, but that's a lofty goal, isn't it? It's something we say also as a way to tell ourselves that we always have to do our utmost. Mill: We also talk about our goal all together in the dorms, since it's a shared dream. We want to come across as determined with a fixed goal. Nine: It's something we've talked about since before we debuted. That we have to do our utmost and aim for the top. While always prizing modesty, being grateful for the people who read and hear us.
Q: How do you feel about your sensual concept?
KB: We have an "ubersexual" concept that pursues a soft, genderless sexiness. Each member is sensitive about this being art, and enjoys the sublimation of sensuality into art, so we're happy to be able to do something that we enjoy. Nine: Even if our intention is for our dancing to be sensual, if the person watching doesn't feel that it's sexy, it's pointless, right? To have someone tell us "This is sexy" means that our songs' worldview was properly understood and solidly expressed, it's something to be proud of. To be honest, if libidO or suit dance had been someone else's songs, would they have been that sexy? Even in a bright song like angel (Prod. GRAY), we ooze sexiness. (laughs) Mill: libidO is the first song that we tackled by first training our bodies, with that song we became known as a "visual body group". Our staple food at the time was chicken tenders. That's the only thing we ate, so after that when I ate spicy ramen for the first time in a while, it tasted so spicy. I can usually handle spiciness well, but I became someone who could barely handle eating spicy. We worked hard to the point that even our taste buds changed ~
Junji, Rie, Yoojung interview
Q: How was your first Japanese concert?
Yoojung: I'm normally the type who might be nervous before going on stage, but once I'm on stage the nervousness disappears. But since it was our first time doing a concert in front of so many people, I stayed nervous until at least the third song. After that I felt a lot of happiness. Junji: (in Japanese) Thanks to lyOns we're filled with happiness! Rie: I was looking forward to it, but I also had worries. Because it was the first time we'd be standing in front of our Japanese fans, and because we'd made them wait for a long time so their expectations might have grown and we could disappoint them. But once we got on stage everyone was supporting us, and that roused us. It's a great memory and it made me want to stand on stage in Japan again. Junji: We sang time leap at the end of the concert, the sight of lyOns waving their lightsticks was really beautiful. Yoojung: That they were standing there to watch our concert made a big impression. Rie: We weren't able to hear everyone's voices yet [because of Covid-19 regulations restricting cheering], but just from the expressions of everyone watching us we could tell they wanted to raise their voices or shout, it was moving and we're thankful. I feel that just from looking into everyone's eyes we were able to understand what they wanted to say. Yoojung: Many people were waving fans, I thought, did they make those themselves? They decorated them so prettily, it's so cute that they made them themselves. Rie: I saw one that said "shoot me" [the finger gun gesture] so I did it. The other members also fulfilled as many requests as they could. They made those fans so pretty for us, I wanted to ask them to give them to me. (laughs) Junji: Seeing my name made me very happy. I started smiling without thinking, then I had to change my expression to get back to the song's feeling. Yoojung: Everyone made theirs so pretty, so they all stood out.
Q: OnlyOneOf has stylish visuals and concepts, but the atmosphere around you feels more approachable, what would you say is your true selves?
Rie: On stage we try to attain a chic, mystical, sexy beauty, so the people seeing us for the first time tend to have a first impression of us as a bit scary and hard to approach, but I think that when they see the members talking together, they'll find that we have a bright, childlike side, and that we're good people. Yoojung: I agree! On stage we want to be cool, but once we come off stage we can be that older brother, friend or little brother from the neighbourhood. I want people to know these friendly sides of us. Junji: We're not unapproachable people! Rie: We'll definitely get close! Don't be scared! Yoojung: For example, in the dorms when we're done eating, we always do a game to decide who will clean up. Like we'll take a book and the person who opens it to the page with the most character names does the dishes, or the person who turns on the TV and has the most people on screen gets to pass, or we'll compete on who can throw a bottle cap the furthest. (laughs) We're the type of people who enjoy these little games. (laughs) I think KB loses most of them? Junji: It's often the person suggesting the game who loses. Rie: It's one of our jinxes, when we decide to play a game, whoever's not there also tends to lose. (laughs) So we all stay in our seats until the game's over! Yoojung: When we're reaching the end of the meal, everyone starts exchanging glances. (laughs) Wondering who will suggest a game, or who will leave their seat.
Q: Your sensual, artistic melodies and dances stand out.
Yoojung: In order to make artistic works, we gain inspiration from various sources. KB apparently often gets ideas from films, books or images, but I often get inspired from the trivial things that I lay my eyes on in my daily life, like magazines, books, tissues, phones. Rie: Sometimes we exchange among ourselves, other times the company will suggest things, like, "What do you think of making a song based on this concept?" Inversely we'll also sometimes give our opinion to the company, "What about this kind of thing?" We won't use those inspirations as is, we'll refine those ideas while exchanging together, "If we interpret it that way, won't it become that kind of work?" Junji: Inspiration is something that can come from any kind of place. When KB gets an idea, he'll immediately write a memo. suit dance is a work developed from a concept the company gave us. Rie: suit dance brings to mind the image of a man beautifully suited up, it expresses dandyism and the beauty of someone dressed up to the tip of their fingers, similar to the film Kingsman. This is something that we talked about together while practising. Yoojung: We also give each other a lot of feedback while practising. We tell each other what we did well. And we study while watching the live stages of other seniors. Rie: When we practice, there'll be fun moments and serious moments. For example, even if we're having fun together, if we have to turn on our expressions and start shooting, everyone will switch in an instant and get immersed in the song's world. I think that's also a strength of our group. Junji: In the beginning there were times when we couldn't say the things that came to mind while practising and left it at that, but that only leads to regrets. So if you're going to have regrets you might as well gather your courage and say those things, and so during practice we've come to give up on what doesn't work and try various things even when it comes to gestures and expressions.
Q: Junji and Rie are popular names in Japan, how did they come about?
Rie: When we debuted, someone on a TV show once told us "Junji and Rie, your Korean is very good." (laughs) There's no particular reason behind the name, but there's apparently a superstition that a female idol with a male name will do well, and inversely a male idol with a female name will do well. And on top of that our group has a genderless image, I think that might be why I was given the name Rie. Yoojung: I think we received names that all fit our own individual images.
Q: I think a lot of people remember OnlyOneOf as a group with sexy visuals. Junji's curtain hair had a lot of impact in particular.
Junji: The curtain hair was the result of trying different hairstyles and picking the one that seemed most memorable. For libidO I suggested making my hair purposefully longer with extensions, and with the ones we used it turned out to be a very long hairstyle. (laughs) I leave it to the hairstylist. Yoojung: For me as well, among the various hair styles I tried, we landed on this one that fit me the best. But I received a lot of positive feedback from fans thanks to this hairstyle, so now I want to keep it. I like it a lot too.

Tumblr media
Kpop boy group OnlyOneOf has collectively signed up to be in idol-based BL, Bump Up Business (based on a webtoon of the same name). Depicts the tickling love story between a trainee who is about to debut and a celebrity from the same agency.
They’ve been auditioning for this since Libido IMHO. You can watch me chronicle their BL MV series in this post.
It’s from Idol Romance who will do sad but can do good kisses (Wish You, Nobleman Ryu, Once Again, Kissable Lips, Poongduck 304, Tasty Florida, Tinted With You). More info here.
I think it will happen (barring any scandals) and I'm interested to see which 2 they put in the leads (they are likely to break up already branded MV pairs in leu of whoever can actually act.)
I think this is also being allowed to happen as a direct result of the impact that Semantic Error had on DKZ's following comebacks. (Also the popularity of Takara & Amagi.) It's being used as a springboard for their music careers (exposure) rather than, as we usually see, a foot in the acting door for an idol who wants to transition.

Kiss Me, Hyung- Yoojung of OnlyOneOf x male reader
Tumblr media
[I don't own these images credits to the original owners]
SFW
(gets *slighty* spicy at the end though)
Synopsis: There is some romantic tension between the reader and Yoojung but Yoojung's best friend keeps getting in the way. Reader decides he's had enough.
Contains: Some angst, fluff and a little suggestiveness (Is that a word?) at the end.
[Word count: 4.7k]
He hadn't had many close friends at university so, after the only two friends he had on campus both moved overseas to study elsewhere, he was left alone.
He didn't mind it at first. It meant he had more time to himself and work since he didn't need to spend so much of his time fooling around and talking but he eventually grew to feel rather lonely, missing his friends' laughter and conversation and hating the silence that had replaced it.
It was for this reason that when a few weeks into classes a girl asked him to sit with her and her friend at lunch that he'd gladly jumped to accept the offer.
Her name was Yeseul and she was studying food sciences. She was short, talkative and adorable in every sense of the word. Her friend that came with the package, however, was what sealed the deal with him becoming part of a new friend circle.
His name was Yoojung. He was studying music and he was breathtaking, to say the least. His hair was blond and fell past his chin in soft, loose curls. He had the most beautiful brown eyes and the brightest smile.
He was quiet for the most part at first, a little shy around him but once he had adjusted to the new addition to his friend group, his true personality was revealed. He was talkative, had the greatest comebacks and was very invested in campus gossip. Y/n wouldn't be surprised if it was Yoojung secretly running the campus gossip blog page. Yoojung also laughed a lot and that was something that Y/n really liked about him. Needless to say, the attraction had been instant. Sometimes it felt like it was mutual but Yoojung had never spoken about it and so neither did Y/n.
Two months after the formation of this new triog, Yeseul had boldly asked Y/n out on a date. She had asked early in the morning before class and Yoojung had been there. Y/N had hesitated before responding to her question. His gaze had shifted to Yoojung in an attempt to gauge his reaction but Yoojung had said nothing and had averted his gaze, seemingly suddenly finding the paving beneath them very interesting. With the lack of response or reaction from Yoojung, he had simply shrugged and said "Why not?"
They had gone bowling and admittedly the date went well. They had a lot of fun together even though they both sucked really badly at bowling. But that was all it was to Y/n; some fun with a friend. It wasn't anything serious. At least not to him. Yeseul was a nice girl but he just didn't see her in any romantic light.
He had known that Yeseul had wanted to kiss him when he dropped her off at her home afterwards but he had avoided it at smoothly as he could. It wouldn't be fair on her. Especially when all he could think about was kissing her best friend.
He felt like a horrible person because of that but try as he might he couldn't help the way his thoughts and eyes would always stray to Yoojung.
Especially now as he looked over at where Yoojung was sitting down across from him next to Yeseul on the grass.
Yeseul had decided they get together in the park when their schedules were clear since she had been meaning to try out a new dessert recipe and wanted to share them with her friends.
Yoojung looked great. He was dressed casually and his hair was up in a bun, a few strands falling free and framing his face. As if in some cheesy rom-com, the light that shone down from between the leaves of the trees illuminated his face beautifully.
He saw how Yoojung squinted as the sun rays hit him in the eyes and couldn't help the laugh that left him. Both Yoojung and Yeseul looked over at him questioningly.
"Enjoying the sun?" He teased the blond.
Yoojung huffed out a laugh and rolled his eyes, "Totally."
"I'm going to the restroom quick," Yeseul piped up, standing and brushing her skirt off.
The boys nodded in acknowledgement and watched as she began what would probably be a five-minute walk to the public restroom.
Yoojung had gone right back to eating. He was making happy sounds every now and then, clearly enjoying the desserts. He didn't speak, solely focused on the flavours. He was so focused that he didn't even register the chocolate smear at the corner of his mouth.
Against his better judgement and in a horribly cliché move, Y/n reached across the space between them and gently swiped his thumb over the corner of Yoojung's mouth, collecting the stray chocolate.
He shamelessly maintained eye contact with Yoojung as he brought his thumb to his mouth and licked the chocolate from it. He carefully watched Yoojung for a reaction and was pleased to see the way Yoojung gulped. He seemed flustered by the sight.
Y/n had felt a growing tension between them as time passed but he hadn't had a chance to confirm it properly. He wanted to be sure of the way Yoojung felt about him but didn't really know how to go about it and, to be honest, he was nervous. He had a perfectly good relationship with him as things stood and he didn't want to risk losing a friend.
He suddenly remembered that he had a work event that weekend and needed a date. Perhaps that would be a good start?
"Yoojung?" He spoke up, intending to try to ask him if he maybe wanted to go with him.
"Yeah?" The blond boy looked at him expectantly.
"I was wondering if-"
"What did I miss?" Yeseul interrupted, joining them again.
Yoojung cleared his throat borderline awkwardly and broke eye contact with Y/n and Y/n tried to hide his scowl.
"Nothing," He replied with a smile that didn't quite reach his eyes. How did she always manage to interrupt things or push herself into them?
She just gave him a funny look and nodded.
"Oh!" She placed another treat on his paper plate, "I heard you need a date for an event this weekend."
Y/n frowned, "How did you know that?"
She smiled, "Wookjin told me."
Wookjin was their mutual friend and his work colleague. He cursed him in his head.
Yeseul gave him another smile, "I can go with you if you'd like?"
He took a quick glance at Yoojung who had hung his head a little before looking at her again, "Oh, actually, I planning to ask-"
"Good, that's settled then. What should I wear?"
She hadn't let him finish his sentence. It didn't even surprise him anymore.
He shrugged in defeat, "Anything semi-formal."
She frowned at him, "Are you alright?"
He nodded, "Yeah I'm fine. Just remembered I need to go do something."
He got up and gathered his things.
"Thank you for the food and," He looked over at Yoojung, "The company."
Yoojung just gave him a weak smile in return.
"Oh, okay but-" Yeseul started but he was already gone.
♡♡♡
The day of his work event had finally arrived and to be honest, he wasn't exactly thrilled.
He didn't really enjoy his current job. It was a boring desk job that he'd have to endure until after he had his degree and could finally start his desired career path. His co-workers and boss were nice enough but most of them only really liked to talk numbers and sales and he felt he already did enough of that on work days.
So yes, the night was already off to a bad start before it had even begun. He had hoped to have a handsomely dressed Yoojung by his side to brighten things up with his stunning smile but he had to take Yeseul who had basically invited herself instead.
He really didn't have anything against her. She was friendly, funny sometimes and loyal- all the qualities he looked for in a friend. He kept trying to tell her this but she made it impossible. He had started to have a growing suspicion that she was well aware and doing it on purpose.
He had been pleasantly surprised when he gone to pick her up at her home. She looked good and it was a nice change of pace to see her dressed semi-formally instead of her usual trendy minimalistic look.
"Hi!" She greeted him with a bright smile and the scent of her flowery perfume hit him as she opened the door. He once more missed Yoojung as he thought of the way his musky cologne would contrast against her perfume.
"Hi. You look nice," he responded with a smile of his own. She chuckled and looked down at her outfit.
"Oh, this? It's nothing. Just something I threw together, really."
He could clearly see she did not just throw it together.
He gave her a tight smile, "Let's go. We don't want to be late."
"Oh, yes, of course."
♡♡♡
The event was going well. Everyone liked her pretty much instantly. Some of the men and even the one female receptionist even flirted with her before realising she had come with Y/n. They had asked him if she was his girlfriend and he had responded honestly with 'no'. He had felt kind of bad about the twinge of disappointment that flickered through Yeseul's eyes at his words. He wasn't lying though; they weren't an official couple and had only gone on one date. Well, two if you counted that evening.
The night progressed smoothly but as it did so he thought progressively more about Yoojung.
He wondered if Yoojung had caught on and realised that Y/n had been meaning to ask him instead. He wondered what he was up to. Was he still in his shop? Yoojung never really got a chance to actually work at the bookstore he had inherited from his mother since he was studying at the same time but he had a guy named Kyubin who ran the store for him when he was unable to.
Y/n had always been curious about the nature of their relationship. Anyone could tell that they were really good friends and could see that they were quite comfortable with one another. Yoojung had never mentioned a boyfriend or girlfriend nor had he said anything about him dating Kyubin either. Kyubin was a decent guy but Y/n really didn't like the idea of Yoojun dating him nor did he like the idea of Yoojung dating anyone else in general. You could call him selfish all you like, he supposed, but it was true.
He really needed to do something about this. He needed to come clean to both Yoojung and Yeseul.
♡♡♡
The drive to Yeseul's home afterwards had been silent for the most part. She had tried to make small talk with him here and there but he was stuck in his head and also horrible at small talk. After a while she had simply stopped trying.
When they arrived outside of her home he had opened the car door for her and walked her to her front door all the while wondering how to go about telling her how he felt. He wondered if perhaps the window to talk about this issue that evening had already passed but when she gave him a coy smile and invited him inside he knew he needed to say something.
"Yeseul-ah," he called out softly but firmly as he stayed put, not accepting her invitation.
She turned back to face him with a small frown, "What's wrong, oppa?"
She insisted on calling him that often despite being a year older than him and, to be frank, he hated it and it was not the term he wanted to hear- especially not from her.
Was he just being an asshole? He was trying not to be which was why he was standing there at that moment and trying to talk to her about this before he even so much as comsidered confessing to Yoojung.
"I'm not your boyfriend."
Horrible way to start he realised but he had never really been in this position before so he pretty much had no idea what he was doing. How do you let a girl down gently?
Her frown deepened and her smile faded entirely, "Yeah. At least, not yet, right?"
He could see a slightly hopeful look in the eyes and he tried to avoid groaning. She was annoyingly persistent.
"No."
"What do you mean 'no'?"
He took a breath, "I mean that you're a nice girl but I don't want to be your boyfriend. I just want to be your friend, Yeseul."
He felt bad as he saw his words register in her eyes.
"What do you mean by that? I thought you liked me?" Her bottom lip quivered.
"As a Friend, Yeseul. I'm sorry but... I like somebody else. I respect you and your feelings so I'm trying to do the right thing and be honest with you."
She stayed silent for a good long moment before she looked up at him again with a dejected gaze.
"It's Yoojung, isn't it?" She asked softly, the question pretty much rhetorical.
His heart jolted at the other boy's name.
"Yes."
He wanted to apologise as soon as he confirmed her suspicions but reminded himself that he wasn't doing anything wrong and that his own happiness mattered too.
Her jaw tensed and he saw her eyes shine with unshed tears.
He groaned internally. Oh god, please don't let her start crying. He never knew what to do when people were crying.
"I knew this was coming," She admitted and now it was his turn to frown.
"You did?"
"Yeah, I was just trying so hard to pretend otherwise. Gaslight myself I suppose."
Bingo. He had been correct.
"How did you know?" He inquired and she scoffed.
"Even a blind person could see your attraction to one another."
His heart skipped a beat.
"I- Do you really think he's attracted to me as well?"
She gave him an incredulous look, "Are you stupid? Of course he is. Have you not seen the way he looks at you? He talks about you even when you're not there, Y/n. It's been a little annoying, to be honest. He's my best friend- I know him well enough to know when he's falling in love."
Falling in love... Y/n was slightly stunned. He had a feeling that Yoojung liked him too but to have it basically confirmed like this just...
Why was she suddenly telling him all of this? And if she knew this all along why did she still push for herself to date Y/n instead? Assuming Yoojung trully was falling in love with him, wouldn't that be selfish of her? But who was he to judge he supposed.
"I'm sorry, Yeseul." He couldn't help but feel bad that she had to see the way he and Yoojung were attracted to each other while she herself had a crush on him. Hadn't Yoojung been in a similar position though?
She waved her hand dismissively at him but he could see the way her tears were threatening to fall, "Don't be sorry. You can't help who you are attracted to."
There was a few seconds of almost deafening silence before he spoke up.
"Will you be all right if I pursue him?"
She sighed, "Yeah, you're my friends so I want you guys to be happy."
"We're still friends right?" He tried to clarify. He had been honest in saying he wanted her as a friend still.
She paused before responding, her voice a little quieter, "Yes. Just give me a little time, okay? To get over you and to... adjust. I'll probably be a little off with you guys for a while but it'll pass eventually."
He nodded; that was understandable and he respected that. He owed her as much.
"Thank you," He offered her a small smile.
He felt a lot better after getting this off his chest despite the lingering feeling of guilt.
"Y/n?"
"Yeah?"
"Break my best friend's heart and I'll break your neck."
Typical best friend speech. He supposed he really did have her go-ahead.
"I won't," He promised.
"You better not."
He waved goodbye with a smile and she tried to return it. He didn't take her feeble smile to heart. She said she needed time after all.
On to the next and final task of the evening: confessing to Yoojung.
♡♡♡
He'd thought to leave his car at home and walk to Yoojung since Yoojung's home was only a few blocks down from his own but half way there the sky had cracked open and rain began to fall.
By the time he finally arrived at the bookstore that Yoojung both owned and lived above, it was pouring with rain.
There wasn't much of an awning over the entrance of the building so even while Y/n crowed under it, he could still feel water hitting his back.
It had to be nearly eleven p.m. by now and Y/n prayed that Yoojung was still up. He knocked hard on the front door of the bookstore and after a while of not getting a response, he pulled out his cell phone and dialled Yoojung's number.
It rang a few times and just as Y/n began to lose hope, Yoojung answered.
"Hello?" His voice was slightly husky and he sounded as if he'd just woken up.
Y/n's heart fluttered at the sound of his voice but he felt bad that he may have woken him up.
"Hey, I'm sorry, did I wake you?"
He heard a chuckle on the other end, "Honestly? Yeah, you did but it's alright, I hadn't been asleep that long. What's up?"
"I'm at the door, could you let me in? It's raining."
"Why are you- Yeah, sure, I'm coming. Just give me a minute."
"Okay." Y/n hung up and looked through the big glass window and into the bookstore expectantly. After a moment a light was flicked on and he saw his friend make his way down the staircase at the back.
"Hey, come in," Yoojung said after unlocking the door. Y/n gladly stepped into the warmth of the shop and out of the rain. Yoojung locked the door again after him and turned to look at him.
"Hey," He said with a small smile and Y/n couldn't help but return it.
"Hey," He responded and Yoojung smiled at him a little brighter before stepping forward to help Y/n take off his soaked suit jacket, only to discover that his white button-up below was absolutely drenched too. So drenched that Yoojung could see the outlines of Y/n's muscles through his shirt where it stuck to the front of him. He couldn't help the way he gulped and his cheeks flushed the slightest.
Y/n scratched the back of his neck, "Maybe leaving my car at my house and walking here wasn't the best idea."
Yoojung snapped his gaze back up to his and snorted, "Ya think?"
He laughed and Yoojung rolled his eyes.
He stepped out of his shoes and found that his socks were at least for the most part dry. Couldn't say the same for his pants.
This was not how he'd expected the night and his confession to go.
Yoonjung nodded his head in the direction of the stairs, "Come up, I'll give you something to change into."
Y/n nodded along and pretended that when Yoojung took his hand to lead him upstairs, his heart rate didn't pick up. It was a small action but a bit bold for the usually shy Yoojung.
Yoojung let him into his reasonably sized flat and disappeared down the short passage to his room, leaving Y/n standing cold, wet and awkwardly in the open-plan kitchen/living room.
A minute later Yoojung popped his head out of his bedroom doorway, "Sorry, I meant for you to follow me."
Y/n laughed and went to him.
Yoojung's room was tidy and quite cosy, everything in muted colours. He had been to Yoojung's home only once before but he hadn't left the living room last time and hadn't had a chance to have a good look around.
"Here," Yoojung handed him sweatpants and a t-shirt, along with a towel.
"You can dry off and change. I'll go make us some coffee."
By the time Y/n left the room, mostly dry and changed, the coffee was finished and Yoojung was leaning against the kitchen counter, nursing a warm mug in his hands, staring off at nothing in particular.
"Hey."
Yoojung jolted slightly upon hearing his voice suddenly and he turned his head to look at him.
He felt his heart skip a good few beats at the sight of Y/n in his clothes, the t-shirt he'd given him a little tight on him.
Y/n raised an eyebrow at him and Yoojung realised he'd been staring.
"Sorry, here's your coffee." Yoojung put his cup down to hold Y/n's cup out to him.
He stepped forward and accepted it, taking a sip. He was pleasantly surprised.
"This is pretty good. How'd you know how I take it? Lucky guess?"
"No. You mentioned how you liked your coffee once and I remembered it."
He didn't miss the way Yoojung's cheeks flushed and he decided that it was now or never.
"Yoojung," he called out and Yoojung looked at him questioningly.
"Yes, hyung?"
The sudden term had Y/n's stomach doing a flip.
"I- Earlier this week, when I was talking about needing a date to the event I'd actually... been meaning to ask you, not Yeseul."
He was trying to act nonchalant despite the way his heart rate had picked up and it was a battle.
Yoojung's eyes widened a little. That wasn't what he had been expecting him to say.
"Why exactly did you come to see me, hyung?" He said after a moment.
Y/n put his coffee mug down on the counter, "Yeseul is a nice girl. She really is and I know she wants to properly date me but I... I don't want that with her. I've tried to tell her but she never lets me finish what I'm saying."
"And what is it that you want, hyung?" Yoojung questioned, his voice soft.
He wondered if Yoojung was calling him hyung all of a sudden on purpose.
His eyes traced Yoojung's delicate features, his deep brown eyes, his soft, chin-length blond hair that Y/n absolutely adored and his eyes finally settled on Yoojung's pretty mouth.
He dragged his eyes back up to Yoojung's, "You."
Yoojung froze for a second before dropping his gaze. Y/n didn't miss the pink tint of his cheeks.
Y/n stepped closer to the other boy, "I couldn't stop thinking of you tonight. I wanted to see you all dressed up. I wanted to introduce you to my colleagues. I wanted to have drinks with you and see you laughing and having fun."
His heart was hammering away in his ribcage as he reached a hand out and tilted Yoojung's face up to look at him.
"I can't stop thinking about you. I need to know you feel the same, Yoojung."
Yoojung just looked at him with big brown eyes and flushed cheeks and his pink lips parted.
Y/n wanted to kiss him so badly. He tucked Yoojung's soft blond hair behind his ear, "Please? Do you?"
Yoojung gulped and took a deep breath, "Yes, I do."
A smile tugged at the corners of Y/n's lips and he leaned in and pressed a kiss to Yoojung's lips.
Yoojung couldn't quite believe what was happening.
"Hyung," He murmured when Y/n pulled back.
"Since when do you call me hyung?" Y/n asked and Yoojung blushed again. They were only a few months apart.
"I- "
Y/n kissed him quickly, "I like it."
He kissed him again, harder this time, "I like it a lot."
A realisation struck Yoojung as when Y/n pulled back a little to look at him, he clocked in the growing intensity in Y/n's eyes. He felt warmth pool in his belly.
He gripped Y/n's shirt and pulled him closer, "Kiss me, hyung."
Y/N's breath hitched before he did just as he was told, tangling his fingers in Yoojung's hair and connecting their lips again.
It didn't take long for the kiss to become heated, months of tension finally snapping and taking control of them.
He held Yoojung close to him as they kissed, appreciating the feeling of his warm body against his. A part of him still couldn't believe this was happening. He wondered if Yoojung was having similar thoughts.
He lifted Yoojung by the waist, perched him on the edge of the counter and stood between his legs before pressing his lips to his once more.
He loved the way Yoojung's kisses felt. They found the perfect rhythm quickly and Y/n had to admit that Yoojung was an amazing kisser and that this was probably the best kiss he'd ever had.
Yoojung cupped Y/n's face in his hands and slowed his kisses down until he eventually pulled back from the kiss with Y/n's lips chasing after his for a second.
Yoojung just rested his forehead against his, feeling his warm breath on his face. Y/n gave him a gentle kiss before stroking his hair out of his face.
It was best they stopped, he silently agreed. He was too into this and if they continued it would probably end up with clothes strewn everywhere.
There's a time and place for everything and now was not the time. He had come here to confess and tell Yoojung how he felt with complete honesty- not to sleep with him.
He lifted his head and his eyes traced Yoojung's pink cheeks, closed eyes and puffy lips and his heart fluttered. The knowledge that Yoojung felt the same had him feeling warm all over. Was he melting?
"Yoojung," He held his face gently in his hands.
Yoojung opened his eyes to look at him, "Hm?"
"Go out with me? Like officially?"
Yoojung looked hesitant for a second, "But Yeseul-"
"She knows."
"How did she take it?"
"Well, she's a little hurt and pretty disappointed. She really did like me after all. But she'll come around eventually, she just needs a bit of time."
Yoojung remained silent and panic rose in Y/n's chest.
"You don't have to. I can wait or-"
Yoojung kissed him to shut him up.
"I just needed a second to process. I've liked you for a while now and it's almost hard to believe you feel the same."
Y/n huffed out a laugh, "Have I not been obvious the past few months?"
Yoojung thought for a moment before responding, "Yeah, I suppose. I'm just a chronic overthinker."
He gave him a small smile and he returned it, wrapping his arms around the smaller boy's figure and holding him tight.
"So?"
Yoojung's smile widened. Y/n thought he looked the most beautiful when he smiled. Had he mentioned that yet?
"Yeah, I'll go out with you."
Y/n grinned and kissed Yoojung again. He never wanted to stop.
"I have another company dinner in a few weeks. Come with me?"
"You still just want to see me dolled up."
He gave him a cheeky smile, "Of course. I bet you look absolutely dashing in a button-up"
"Dashing? What am I, a prince?"
Y/n shrugged, "I mean, you've got the looks."
"Are you always such a flirt?"
"No, I guess you just bring out the best in me."
Yoojung scoffed, "That's debatable."
Y/n laughed and kissed him again, "Yoojung?"
"Hmm?"
"You have a beautiful smile."
"Flirt."
Y/n tucked Yoojung's hair behind his ear, "I'm serious."
Yoojung blushed lightly, "Thank you."
There was a moment's silence before Yoojung spoke up again.
"You woke me up-"
"I'm sorry."
"It's alright, it was worth it. The point is though that I am tired."
"Oh, do you want me to leave?"
"No. Stay but behave yourself."
"I can't make any promises."
Yoojung slapped him lightly, "I'm being serious here, Casanova."
"As am I."
"I'm regretting my decision."
"No, please don't. I'll shut up."
Yoojung laughed and kissed him (Y/n didn't think he'd ever get tired of kissing him), "I'm just teasing you, idiot. But really, I'm fighting to keep my eyes open."
Despite offering to take the couch, Yoojung insisted Y/n sleep in bed with him. Which might have been a mistake because even then Y/n didn't shut up.
Just as Yoojung was finally falling asleep Y/n spoke up again.
"I'm so happy, Yoo."
Yoojung huffed but kissed Y/n's hair, "Me too, hyung. But sleep now please."
"Okay."
Y/n held Yoojung tight the whole night, clinging to him as if he was worried he'd disappear but Yoojung didn't mind. He definitely didn't. Not after months of pining after him.
A/N: Could've probably ended that better but I'm on new medication and I can't think as well as I usually do.

OnlyOneOf seOul cOllectiOn Album Thoughts
Reading through the "seOul drift" MV description, I was struck by the part that was talking about the album as a whole (bolding mine, I've left out the part specifically talking about "seOul drift"):
Seoul is the city of brilliant lights. Underneath those lights, there are also young people who’ve been hurt by others and who are wandering along the dotted line of lostness. The new album of OnlyOneOf, who has come back as a group after a year, is named “seOul cOllectiOn” for a reason.
The 6 members have sung the dreams and hopes of young minorities by presenting “undergrOund idOl,” the diary of the youths, one after another last year. The reason stories are woven together with the voices of all 6 members this time is that the album captures the stories of Seoul’s loneliness and solitude, and those who are hurt in this city.
...
Seoul is now one of the most prominent cities in the world. K-pop has also become a genre that not only Koreans listen to. Everything in this city has become more glamorous and bustling, but that doesn’t mean everyone is happy.
OnlyOneOf always sings about loneliness and pain or the stories of those whose love isn’t blessed. We often simply brush them off as something minor, but they are stories that someone should caress and embrace.
OnlyOneOf hopes that there will be unknown gods’ blessings in these difficult steps being taken, and that there will be blessings from our fans whom we appreciate and whose names you may not know.
This made me really interested to look at the lyrical elements of the album as a whole and what it is saying about loneliness and those stories of the people whose love could not be blessed (that's such a emotionally powerful way of phrasing what they're talking about).
Under the cut, I'm going to talk about each song (these are more impressions and stream of conscious about each song rather than in depth lyrics analysis).
chrOme hearts
This song is interesting to me because I feel like it can be read several different ways. Is it an unhealthy obsession and returning to a bad relationship even though it's painful because it's the only connection that you have? Is it about sex and fear of connecting put putting yourself on the line in other ways even though the heart is chrome and reflective and hard to connect to/cold? Is it about the fear and pain around the kind of love and sexuality that someone has that has been instilled socially that makes it hard to break free and actually form a safe feeling relationship?
My big take away from these lyrics, every possible connection that the narrator is experiencing brings some sort of heartbreak and relationships are hard and potentially isolating and lonely for our "lovers who could not be blessed."
This is definitely connecting to me to that idea of the having come to a big city because it seems safer/better/more likely to have people like you, but then struggling to connect and finding heartbreak and loneliness because connecting is hard, and a lot of queer people who do this bring a lot of the ways that they were hurting (especially from their family) with them in their head. Possibly the idea of the kind of love that they are experiencing should hurt or make them feel guilty on some level.
seOul drift
A lot of the song deals with the idea of following your own path and finding freedom. It's a lonely sort of feeling, but at least you're free. There's also the feelings of missed connections, getting a little closer but not quite there, especially because everything in the city is going so fast.
mirage
This song is so poignant and really seems to be looking back on something that was almost a relationship to me, something where there was the possibility for the connection, but neither half was able to bring themselves to break past the mirage, the illusory barrier that they had created between them and society, what I often call the veil of plausible deniability. There's a lot of regret in these lyrics, a lot of wishing that they could reach each other past that distance, but there's a feeling that maybe they need to let go, to move past this because it's hurting them and they can't get past that illusion and either find something real behind it or find that it wouldn't have worked after all. The maybe is perhaps even harder.
candy bOmb
... I have a really hard time reading this as about anything other than hook ups and wanting something more in terms of an emotional connection but instead just having those fleeting moments that are very much full of sweet pleasure and enjoyment, but also are in a ways destructive to them because they aren't getting the connection that is so clearly wanted. That person could change them, if they'd just have more than something physical between them, if they'd actually go over and connect when it wasn't for a hook up. Again with the isolation/connection theme and fear of real connection.
blueblueseOul
The longing and regret and missing connection in this song and its lyrics are just so very very compelling. The feeling of wanting to find someone again, wanting to have that connection again. The connections to scent and memory as this driving element. It almost gives me the image of someone who let the other person go, that person left for the city and its hope/promise first, before the speaker was ready to try or able to leave. And now the speaker has followed them, but that connection is severed, and they don't know how to find them in this isolation of the city or whether the other person would even want them there again, but there's the desperate longing for that sort of connection that they once had.
nabi
This song feels like it's about the moment of a maybe connection, of something with potential to bloom. Maybe where the person being described is more out, more open, more possessing of the freedom and ability to show themselves that the speaker is still afraid to reach for. But there's been a moment of connection, the beginning of something blooming between the two, but it feels like it could only be a dream to the speaker because it seems too good to be true. Is it though? Who knows, it's the start of it! There's something scared but also hopeful about this. I like ending on a note that feels hopeful that something could bloom, that something could grow, that the speaker(s) could have a connection!
I am ignoring the English version of dOra maar because (a) why and (b) it feels to an extent like it was tacked on here (because they needed to release it eventually? because they are about to go on their Americas tour and they thought an English song would be a good idea? I don't know, but I don't think that it adds to the narrative of the album).
OK, but I really want the sequel album to this one to be called seOul cOnnectiOn because that would give me even more feelings.
Parting thoughts on the album just for those who might be curious. My ranking of the songs goes:
mirage >= nabi >= blueblueseOul >> chrOme hearts > seOul drift >= candy bOmb (I like all the songs up to this point to varying degrees, they at least have elements that appeal to me)
(>>>>>>>> dOra maar (English version) - the English lyrics destroy the song for me sadly because original dOra maar is so so so good, so we're just sitting here pretending like this isn't here, ok)

Calcium's List of K-Pop Worth a Damn Pt.2
Hello my beloved mutuals.
It is I, Calcium, who has consumed way too much K-Pop and has opinions on which songs (and by extension artists) are actually worth a damn.
This is part two because there was so much K-Pop to sort through, and this part is going to cover the male artists whether groups or soloists. I do not expect you to enjoy every single one on this list, but I do think these songs are worth at least one listen.
In Case This Breaks Containment: Please understand this list was made for my mutuals and my mutuals only. Just because a song or artist is not on this list does not mean I think the song or artist is bad. Except for BTS, with all due respect I think their solo work outshines their group work by a margin which is why two of their members are in the solo area listing but there is no group song listed.
Important Language Note: When Romanized, the word 'you' in Korean translates to 'nega' and the word 'I' in Korean translates to 'naega'. When said very fast it sounds like the n-word. I promise it is not the n-word, they are saying 'you' or 'I'.
Without further ado, let's finish these recommendations.

Overall Artist Recommendations
Ateez: They are very hard hitting and all their songs feel like cinematic experiences. My go to boy group, and I don't think there is a song of theirs I don't like.
Enhypen: Can I just say supernatural concept and be done with this section? Yeah, I think I will.
Taemin: Honestly I was just going to leave it at his name, but I cannot explain how sexy his voice is. The man is known as The Idol's Idol for a reason.
Tomorrow X Together or TXT: They honestly have a little bit of everything from more chipper music to darker music. My personal favorites are the moments where they sound like an actual band like Run Away, I Know I Love You, and Loser=Lover.
Stray Kids: A little grab bag of everything when it comes to the 'love yourself' message. If that isn't enough for my mutuals, not only do they have my seal of approval but they also have my mother's seal of approval so uh take that as what it is.
Bonus Recommendation
KARD's music is wonderful, but since they are a co-ed group I was unsure where to put them. In terms of their songs I adore Gunshot and Red Moon as it was the song that got me into them.
