I think its cool Luffy gives zero(0) fucks. Zoro has cool swords and earrings. Nami's staff is hella badass

i hate the argument against one piece that’s like “a good show shouldn’t need 1,000+ episodes to get good”. you’re gonna make me rip my skin off. why the fuck would one piece fans waste 25 years of their life waiting to “get to the good part”? one piece isn’t 1,000 episodes because it needs to time to get good, it’s 1,000 episodes because it’s simply a long story: it’s a journey, an adventure.

in the same breath, one of the most fantastic things about op being 1,000 episodes is that, in all that time, it hasn’t run itself into the ground. it just continues to get better and better.

Live action review -

One Piece: Romance Dawn

Episode one of the One piece live action... This is only my opinions and views, if you aren't interested in that then cool but I need somewhere to talk. This will be bullet points.

Introduction with Roger's execution and a narrator? A fantastic choice

Roger's casting is actually spot on though?? Why were people complaining he's great for the role, Roger is in his 50s here are you he's sick of course he's not gonna be a super model but he's still stoic looking and I like it

Scottish Garp I shouldn't expect anything less (if they ever get to Sabaody I hope Kidd and Killer are Scottish too lmao)

I like that you can see who's in the crowd too because for the anime/manga people it's like a lil treat (Dragon I see you stop hiding)

Iñaki is perfect. I don't think anyone else would have suited Luffy more, the more the episode continued the more convinced I became

Line delivery is... It could be improved. It's quite theatrical? Like stage place or musical type acting sometimes. Maybe it's what they were going for I don't know, I don't hate it but it made me pause for a few moments because I get really bad second hand embarrassment

Coby and Luffy moments are great, they're dynamic and it's a lovely relationship they have going and you can tell the actors work well together

Shanks and his crew? Absolutely phenomenal. Peter Gadiot is perfect but the trailer did him dirty. My only complaint is I don't think Benn's casting was the best, sorry to the actor but he just doesn't fit quite like the others.

Baby Luffy... Oh my heart is melting

Zoro's intro and choreography was great, lil hint to Baroque Works if we get a S2 hehehe

Nami slayed as per usual, trust in Emily is at it's peak. She isn't just playing Nami, she is Nami

Again, great bar fight scene. I got some second hand embarrassment again from the line delivery but I recover fast and move on

If I'm repulsed when an antagonist has come onto screen then you know they've done the job right.

Honestly, 200/10 casting for him and Cabaji

In my most honest opinion, this episode was good. It wasn't the greatest, there's definitely more to come and it's a lovely scene setter and build up. The cast are great, I have a few comments about how they've been directed to deliver lines because it's honestly not the best.

The CGI even now, where there wasn't much needed, is really promising. My favourites so far? Definitely Shanks, Luffy (both mini and big) and Nami. They honestly made the first episode for me. It's got the fun feel of the show, and for a live action it's quite good. I do agree it's not to everyone's taste, my brother watched one scene and didn't like it but that's because he's a skeptic. I have high hopes, let's just hope incels and chronically online shit wipes don't ruin this for me or others... Don't listen to them, it's worth a watch.

Part 1 of 2! Alright, Dressrosa, let's talk about it. This will be SPOILER HEAVY so if you have not gotten this far in One Piece turn back, ye lousy land lubber!!! YOU'VE BEEN WARNED!!

Alright, so where to start with this arc? I feel like right off the bat, Moustachio'd Zoro got me feelin' some kinda way. I am also very here for pigtailed Franky, but I'm here for Franky no matter what season of blue hair he sports.

This is by far the longest arc I've watched since I began my One Piece journey about a month and a half ago and this was the first time since Alabasta that I really felt this show just DRAGGED. Too many flashbacks, too many episodes where about 5 minutes of actual story happened. I understand that anime often has to pad their episodes because they need to time it correctly with the release of the manga but this, as I mentioned in an earlier post, was truly a labor of love.

Now I NEED to talk about Sanji because this arc almost made me fall in love with him again. I don't know what Oda was thinking from Thriller Bark up until this point making Sanji an actual, legitimate creep rather than just an obnoxious yet endearing simp. I loved Sanji before he evolved into his more predatory self. But in Dressrosa, when he actually thinks he's found someone to love and take care of, the creep factor all but disappears again and he becomes like....actually loving and caring and kind of someone that feels deserving of a healthy relationship. This is the closest to a romance any of the Mugiwaras have had in about 700 episodes and I actually wanted this to work out for him and Viola.

Speaking of "romance," the fact that Franky brought the show's first Straw Hat kiss to the screen was EVERYTHING. The whole Franky vs the Factory arc was delightful and one of the highlights of the entire arc for me.

Like girl, same.

Now....someone tried to tell me that I would fall for this motherfucker and I have to say unequivocally that fall for him I did not. I'm all for sexy villains, but Doflamingo is a bonafide psychopath who enjoys torturing and hurting innocent people and I GUESS I just don't find that swoonworthy. The voice actor for the dub did a phenomenal job here. Every time that laugh crept its way onto the screen, my skin would crawl. Aside from Arlong, this is the only OP villain I've felt a sense of authentic dread around. 10/10 threat, favorite villain of the series so far.

I have so much more to talk about but I'll do that in a part two, but I'll finish by emphasizing how much I fucking adore Bartolomeo. I love this show's ability to initially make you despise a character only to find out they are a complete and total chad. I want him to become a Straw Hat so badly :) More in a future post!

One Piece 1053: The three-Three Billon Bounty Dilemma! And my birthright to comment on it! [Contains Spoilers]

{Okay, I have read chapter 1053. First of all Green Bull is scary. Secondly, Robin is safe, phew. Third, Pulton is on Wano.}

Since last night I have been laughing at Captain Buggy-Sama becoming the New Emperor! Underneath Buggy meme tweets I have been seeing people getting miffed about Luffy sharing same Bounty amount with Law and Kid, and how it makes them angry when Luffy defeated Kaido alone, and Law and Kid defeated Big Mom.

I am sorry, but you are reading the situation of the bounties is wrong. To World Government bounties were never method of power scaling, bounties are a means to judge their enemies’ threat level. They hyped Luffy up with his first bounty of 30 million to catch the attention of bounty hunters, they had assumed Luffy would be eradicated if his bounty was higher, either by them or pirate hunters! But that backfired, instead it gave Luffy the attention that made him an enigma from east blue.

We as a reader are getting the story told from an aware narrator perspective. But the events in One Piece universe are not linear or widely talked about. We have been with Luffy from the beginning, but the people of One Piece world hear about Luffy only when something drastic happens, and the bounties and the newspapers are the best means to explain this broken information trail.

Since the beginning of story other than us the readers, the only other people who know Luffy’s potential is World Government and Marines. Luffy, took down marines, pirates, kings, warlords within months of his debut on the seas. World Government knows he is a/the illogical invariable in their grand scheme of equations of ruling. Hence they placed the credit of Crocodile’s down fall on Smoker and Tashigi.

Similarly they must have hidden his actions with Captain Morgan, Captain Nezumi and more. By the time World Government realised Luffy was not a easy fly to catch he had already arranged an admirable crew, they jumped his bounty to 100 million, this time to attract other pirates who liked taking down rookies. Latest example of it being Kid trying to immediately eliminate Luffy after learning about his Emperor status!

And the 100 million bounty worked, Blackbeard came all the way to Jaya to catch Luffy, because offering his head to Marines would earn him shichibukai aka warlord title. Marines and World Government have always used bounties to spread the message they wanted the world to see. They hid the D. In Roger’s name, because Germa paid them or used their influence, they removed the wanted DEAD from Sanji’s poster, they can freeze bounty. Each poster is a message and threat and a boast that no matter how powerful a pirate is World Government can measure it in berries.

The world outside Wano will never learn of Luffy’s contributions, very much like, Alabasta, Dressrosa, Thriller Bark or Drum Island. At best Luffy is a legend; Lucy to Dressrosa, a cocky pirate friend of Chopper’s in Sakura, Luffylando to fairies or a warrior from Noland’s world to Skypiea people. The world knows of Luffy more is because of the den-den mushi mishap of Marineford, the entire world got to see him in action on the light scrolls. It is after Ace’s death that Luffy used World Government’s methods to trick them into believing he is ringing the ox bell to start new era, but it was actually to deliver his message to the crew.

Now let’s come to 3 billion berri new Emperor.

World Government wanted to remove the D. from the posters, the photograph printed of Luffy’s was not the approved one. Right now we are witnessing the display of 800 years of utter incompetency of the World Government, lack of communication between the five elders aka the Gorosei and Marines. Marines or World Government actually hired the same guys to print their posters who print the newspapers! A twittering Media Moghul Brid, who has been covering Luffy’s story since Marineford, named him the Fifth Emperor of Sea weeks back It shows us two things, World Government’s own network is broken and they have been in power for so long is all because of Mighty Marine Manpower.

Luffy, Law, Kid sharing same bounty amount is nothing but an attempt to cover up Luffy’s potential from the world. Why call him an emperor and not the other two or why is his bounty same with other two when he fought thrice them; all these thoughts are redundant when seen from narrative context.

The title of emperor comes not based on who you defeated or what you did, it comes from what your name holds. Blackbeard earned the warlord title, but he became Emperor only when he began taking over islands under his banner. Shanks has territories and allies all over grandline and he can stop WAR. We may laugh at Buggy-Sama, but he filled the arms trade void left by Doffy, Buggy also has cult like followers, may be it is by fluke, but influence is influence.

Luffy at this point is the most chaotic element in the world; a walking god that can communicate with sea kings and a cursed depressive elephant, a D. with a Grand Fleet of reputed captains with 5640 people, an Island under his flag, three allies from worst generation, a handful of kingdoms who are supportive of him, a diabolical grandfather, a criminal father, a dead notorious brother and another revolutionary brother, has amicable alliance with two worst generations. As for crew members he has a woman the only one in the world with knowledge of poneglyphs, an exiled prince, a former bounty hunter, a cyborg who knows the mechanics of Pulton, an ancient musician who has mysterious past, a liar who swayed the population against Doffy. These are few feathers on Luffy’s hat.

But World Government also doesn’t want Luffy to stand out much, and their intel collection is flawed. They believe what they hear and photographs they received. In their eyes, three worst generation rookies teamed up to defeat two emperors. Not only that, it is also a way of discrediting Luffy’s name, he maybe an emperor but he is not any better than his fellow peers, they have been trying to co-opt Luffy for their propaganda for days. But the initial aim of this decision backfired, the poster was meant to convey Luffy is just another Pirate who shot up the ranks, by omitting his D. and using his regular photos. Now people can clearly see he is not another rookie from his white bright as bulb, photo, people who know about DFs will understand he has awoken and people and creatures who have been awaiting the return of Joyboy/Sun God Nika might connect the dots! So new allies and new enemies will both come for Luffy now!

The three sharing same bounty amount is not Odachii undermining Luffy, it is World Government who has been repeatedly trying to erase Luffy from the existence of the narrative they have been trying to tell. Justice belongs to the victor, Luffy has with a steady speed been countering the story, it began with Marineford, the world saw there is no good or bad in violence. World Government and marines are meant to protect people, but throughout the story they have proved otherwise their goal is to maintain power, it never mattered if a country was brought to ruins. Fujitora is the first to accept responsibility of World Government’s failure, negligence and incompetence, the doubt in justice began with Kuzan, Koby wants to protect true justice that’s why he joined marines, Tashigi cried when she realised her job to protect people of Alabasta was done by Pirates, the marines who care follow their own code of justice, biggest example being Garp. There is going to be a fall out between the World Government and Marines in coming days, as the ruler and the execution bodies are no longer in sync. The three billion bounty poster is a last desperate attempt by World Government to control the narrative.

I didn't think that the Heart Pirates (except for Law) were very strong. But, One Piece Episode 1093 showed that even they can hold their own against part of Blackbeard's crew.

OPLA Review: I love it but it’s different!

Some context: I started watching One Piece when I was 19 years. So the straw hats have been part of my life for over 9 years. Nevertheless, I’m anime only. I have never read the manga. But I know about the story differences between the manga and anime.

I love the live action adaption! The characters feel in line most of the time. The pacing is quite fast, which is actually good for the story. It definitely broke the curse of bad live action adaptions. I can feel the love that is put into this series at each and every moment. Yet, it still feels different to the One Piece in my heart.

I was super excited for the series to be released. After my initial hype, I still tried to keep my expectations low. Yet while watching the first episode, I felt really conflicted. I loved it for what it is. But I wished I could love it even more. Does this even makes sense? Even after finishing the first 4 episodes, I felt every loving post and meme about it. But something was missing. And this feeling didn’t change after finishing the series.

After exploring my thoughts I noticed to main reasons for this:

First and foremost, I love One Piece for its emotions. I have goosebumps, I cry, I feel excited and motivated. With OPLA the emotions where conveyed on the conversational level a lot. A lot more than in the anime. But I was missing the emotions on the emotional level. Characters where saying what they feel. But I couldn’t sense them feeling it.

The second thing which is crucial about One Piece for me is the music! Especially reoccurring background music that also conveys a lot of the emotions. Yes, we had a little bit Bink's sake here and there. And the main theme song We are was incorporated twice if I’m not wrong. But besides that I cannot recall any music except the fishmen's background music. Most of the time I didn’t even notice the background music at all. Epic moments had no epic music.

Nevertheless, I am still very much in love with it. I see so many people engaging in my most favorite fictional world. And they get lost in it! Maybe some even start to read the manga or watch the anime. Some might won’t. But knowing the straw hats - somehow as they are - will be part of other peoples lives as well, makes me unbelievably happy!

And for everyone interested, here are some other random impressions and thoughts:

Almost all story changes where made with love and payed tribute to the original. Like having Chouchou in Orange Town or a girl offering Zoro onigiri. But making the Grand Line map the main story plot device leading to Arlong being kind of the end boss of season 1 felt off to me. It fits somehow into the story. But since Arlong is from the Grand Line, I feel like he wouldn’t be that much in need of the map anyway?!

Koby had sooo much screen time! It was an interesting choice. But I’ve admit, I liked it a lot! Yet I’m not sure if I like how Garp is portrayed. He seems a bit out of character to me personally.

I loooved how they integrated the wanted posters for each character! That was a really unique and cool idea!

We had a panda in the show!!! At this point I knew it’s just a big success haha!

There had been a lot of queer moments! So many more than in the anime at that time of the story. There will be so many fanfics lol

I loved Namis and Luffys first interaction. Even though it was different from the original , it was so cute and gave them some funny moments together. In contrast, Sanjis and Luffys first interaction felt really lame. I love how in the anime the first thing Luffy sees Sanji doing is offering someone starving food for free. This way he knows immediately Sanji is a good one. He asks him to join his crew without having tried his meals. In OPLA Luffy first sees Sanji as waiter resolving some fight. Luffy goes from "he's a good fighter" over "he's a good cook" to "he’s a good guy". And to me Sanji is a good guy first and everything else comes after!

The only time I felt emotions like in the anime, was the scene were Luffy gave his hat to Nami. I think it was almost a 1:1 adaption of the original scene and the dialogue. But somehow this scene felt also off in the live action, because it was so much heavier in emotions than the rest of the series. I’m sorry I’m really picky about the emotional stuff lol

Thanks for reading my rumbling about my favorite fictional universe! I’m really excited what OPLA can do in the future! For anyone starting to watch the anime, I have some last words for you: I’ll wait in Wano Kuni for you!!!

One Piece: Chapter 1052 review

SO, ONE PIECE CHAPTER 1052 JUST HAPPENED. AND I AM LOST OF WORDS.

I'm trying out a new review format, so bare with me here. You won't be seeing me cry over Izo at the start of the review :)

Gorosei

Alright, so with every 10/10 chapter comes a scene from Mary Geoise, and of course that one CP0 agent reported to the Elder Stars exactly after. I'm just surprised that they haven't given up on Robin, they really ARE old men.

Hawkins & Drake's confrontation

Now, you don't know how scared I was when I first read this page, because this reminds me too much of Keith and Magath's death over in the neighboring manga. ONE OF THEM'S GONNA DIE, and I was afraid that it would be Drake, because the anime kinda DID say Hawkins' prophecy was targeted on him. But apparently, Oda said "fuck the anime" and revealed that the man that had only a 1% chance to survive the raid was Hawkins himself 🤯. Oda, you better stop playing with my emotions.

Is Hawkins dead, is he not? Idk.

Joyboy

So, apparently it's confirmed that Luffy's Joyboy. And all I gotta say is, Sir where did you get that info from?

Izo & Ashura's memoir

Well, won't you look at that, the Vassals and Marco are gonna build a second shrine next to Ryuma to honor Oden & co. And won't you look at that again, IZO AND ASHURA ARE FUCKING DEAD. We're starting off well with me wondering why the hell is Yamato on the top of the building 🤠

Eyyyyy, the boys are back and they're the same as always even though one of them literally faced the grim reaper.

And after that, we get a sweet page of them having a feast, and then we got a couple of hilarious panels with the Straw Hats discovering that the 8 yo Momo is no more. Something I gotta say, why does the new Momo look so much like Franky (NOT the cyborg) 😭

IS IT JUST ME 😭I swear they looked so similar in my head.

ANDD there's still loads to cover, and I can't add more pictures, so I'll just continue on another post :)
