Tbh I don’t even need Shanks or Buggy to be pining 100 percent of the time, I’ll gladly would read a fic or thing where they both have moved on (for the most part because Buggy hasn’t ever been normal about Shanks ever as evidence by the earlier at chapters he ever even appeared in. Nobody who’s moved on gets flashbacks to the time a guy made you eat a fruit) but Shanks sees the opportunity to at least… talk to his old crewmate and takes it. They used to best friends after all. Just curious to see what Buggy’s been doing is all. And Buggy is just in a position where drinking with isn’t the worst he could do that day so he accepts the invitation. None of them have been “pining” for the other really. They never even really expected to run into each other like this again.
… and all it takes is five minutes of Shanks listening to Buggy rambling to remember that little crush he had on him as a child and it takes an hour for him to suddenly realize “…. Oh fuck. The feelings back. Or it never left and was just behind a layer of time that now has been pulled away. The exact same feeling. Fuck. Turns out it wasn’t even a “little crush” either. Shit. Gonna drink myself into a stupor.”
And it doesn’t even take half an hour for Buggy to suddenly remember why the idea of going for the One Piece with Shanks seemed like at least a feasible idea at one point before Shanks managed to destroy Buggy’s image of him as a shining Star so thoroughly, because Shanks has put his remaining arm around him and is laughing and there’s just this charisma dripping of him and Buggy remembers that Shanks looked kinda cute back in the day with just the slightest amount of baby fat still in his cheeks but now he’s fucking STUNNING and god why is he wondering about the “what ifs” and “what could have beens” NOW? He hasn’t questioned his choice to leave that fool standing in the rain for DECADES why is - Fuck it! Gonna drink himself into a stupor.
New dynamic dropped: “We used to be over each over but now we had one good night out that made us question everything and none of us can be normal about it for five minutes”
You literally read my mind completely with this. I am obsessed with this concept because it's, for me, the closest to their canon dynamic and characters. They're still very important to each other and seeing the other brings back both good and bad memories. Their relationship is extremely complex and full of love covered in layers and layers of years without each other and new experiences. And I'm 100% sure they constantly ask themselves what could've been or what would have happened if they had stayed together. Chapter 1082 of the manga (why the hell do I know the number? Don't ask. I am not obsessed and it's not like I reread that chapter every day) confirms that. They make me go insane. I wish I could say more about it but you've said everything on my mind???? Thank you.

Seen at least one (1) person complain about Crocodile losing his "unique faceshape" (now having the same facial structure that 90% of OP men have) after episode 1086 came out and like
To be fair, yes, the shape of his head HAS changed since his first appearance in The Year 2000. The thing is, Toei's latest Crocodile Offering is frankly more in-line with how Oda drew Crocodile during Impel Down and Marineford than ever before. Like yeah he looks different, but this change isn't new
But that comment really did make me think about how FUNNY it is just how different Croc really looks from his first appearance, like. The evolution in how Oda draws the bastard is so facinating to me
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
These are from chapters 155, 160 and 205 respectively.
No massive changes happening here in the middle of the arc, but you can kinda tell that Oda was definitely still figuring out how this asshole was supposed to look as he got further into the Alabasta (which is perfectly normal), which just makes That First Appearance look even funnier with time because. Who the fuck is that lmaooo
Tumblr media
But then we get to see him briefly during Miss Goldenweek's cover story, this being from the cover of chapter 413! All things considdered, bastard hasn't changed that much, still looks pretty much the same as in Alabasta. His head is maybe a little less elongated than before but still, chin is quite pointy still
Tumblr media
And now we're in Impel Down at chapter 540. Again, dude looks about the same as he did before...
But it really doesn't take long for Oda to start reshaping this bastard's entire head at this point
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Chapters 544, 546, 578, and cover of chapter 584
The chin is easily the most obvious part, but you can tell Oda kind of defaulted to giving him that same ol' evenly square-ish head most his conventionally attractive characters have during these story arcs (instead of the elongated shape he originally had).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And then we have the latest appearances, from 1082 and 1100
I do feel like comparing these to what's come before would be a little unfair considdering his health and eyesight and how those affect the artwork itself, but. They're there, for comparison's sake
But the point is still there. Crocodile's face shape has changed since his first appearance, but it's not like Toei was behind that, the change was (mostly) gradual and from Oda himself. And it mostly happened in 2008, so it's not new by any means either
Tumblr media
So really, all Toei did was just update his character model because ⬆️ is more accurate than ⬇️ for One Piece right now
Tumblr media
Regardless. The sheer difference between the two is hysterical to me

Chapter 1082: Setting the Stage
Wait, so you expect me just to... move on from 1081? That’s rude. I’m still in mourning 😭
Sigh. Fine.
On a lighter note, the cover illustration this chapter is adorable.
Tumblr media
It made me smile, which I desperately needed after the devastation of last chapter.
On to the chapter, which continues to set the stage for the race for Laugh Tale:
We see the first major casualty of Cross Guild: T-Bone.
Tumblr media
It’s interesting that of all the Marines that could have become victim to the Cross Guild bounties, it’s T-Bone, one of the few genuinely good ones. That shows that, for all fandom was cracking up at the idea of Cross Guild pulling a Reverse Uno card on the Marines by putting bounties on them, it’s actually quite a damaging thing to do. It’s a stark reminder that these people we’re following, have, in some cases, come to feel affection for, are pirates.
Tumblr media
Perhaps it’s inevitable T-Bone would become a victim of the Cross Guild bounties; when we first met him back in Water 7, he’s described like this:
Tumblr media
His hobby is saving people and he’s willing to do anything to help others “even if it destroys this body of [his].” When we see the man who apparently killed him for his bounty, he’s utterly pathetic:
Tumblr media
His family was starving to death; it’s easy to imagine T-Bone willingly giving himself up so this man could claim his bounty for his family’s sake considering what we’ve seen of the man. But now the Marines are down one of their best men and are worse off for it.
Speaking of Marines, it’s also good to see Sengoku and Tsuru. They chat about the danger Cross Guild represents to the Marines before Hina drops a bomb on them:
Tumblr media
I have to wonder if we’ll see Sengoku and/or Tsuru follow after Garp to Hachinosu. Tsuru has her granddaughter to think about while Sengoku has his close friend--and, though he doesn’t know it yet, Blackbeard has just wiped out the crew of his sort-of grandson. Moreover, it’s possible Blackbeard recovered the Hearts and brought them back to Hachinosu as prisoners. Wouldn’t that be interesting to see Sengoku faced with Law’s crew?
Meanwhile, we also get some great comedic relief with the Buggy vs. Mihawk and Crocodile dynamic.
The Cross Guild ship is hilarious.
Tumblr media
And Buggy knows that’s not going to sit well with Mihawk and Crocodile.
Tumblr media
He’s right.
Interesting that Mihawk says they need to establish overwhelming power when we just saw two captains worth 3 billion defeated and possibly in need of new direction. What did Law say back on Punk Hazard about surviving in the New World? You either join an Emperor or you try to become one.
I have a hard time imagining Law aligning himself with this group (even if he would fit the whole former Warlord vibe; Law’s far more likely to reunite with the Straw Hats, I think) but Kid? (Assuming he survived, of course. This is One Piece, so I feel pretty safe in that assumption.) Kid’s going to want revenge against Shanks for destroying his crew, and who better to get him close to Shanks than Buggy?
We also get some further elaboration on the grudge Buggy has been holding against Shanks -- and it’s completely unexpected.
Tumblr media
Buggy thought Shanks was going to follow in Roger’s footsteps, but when Shanks decided to hold off, Buggy felt betrayed. This is... weirdly wholesome? And earnest? Like, Buggy had so much faith in Shanks as Roger’s successor that Shanks not immediately going for Laugh Tale comes across as a betrayal. Buggy is disappointed in Shanks.
(It’s also interesting to consider how Shanks and Buggy are the inverse of one another. Shanks is the strong head of a notoriously weak fleet while Buggy is the comedic relief figurehead of a group of more powerful pirates.)
So, Buggy decides he’s going to do what Shanks refused to do for all those years.
Tumblr media
Why does Buggy, of all people, have me up in my feels now? Rude.
A lot has been said about Blackbeard being a dark parallel to Luffy, but Buggy has his own parallels to our favorite rubber boy. Back at Marineford, Mihawk noted what Luffy’s true strength is:
Tumblr media
And Buggy has a similar ability, which he puts to use in this chapter:
Tumblr media
So, at this point we’re seeing all four Emperors making moves toward finding the One Piece.
Meanwhile, surprising absolutely no one, Sabo is fine:
Tumblr media
He wasn’t on Lulusia when it was blown up; he was evacuating some people from Lulusia who wanted to join the Revolutionary Army. We’re on the verge of learning what really happened at Reverie...
So, any bets on how many chapters it’ll take to return to Sabo’s story?
(Anyway, I’m going to crawl back into my hole and continue crying about Law, Bepo, and the Hearts.)

One Piece-Chapter Round-Up(Chapter 1082)
Tumblr media
Haven’t written anything in a while on here manga-wise but there’s no way I miss talking about such a banger One Piece chapter. To start off with we get an adorable cover of Chopper mistaking Zeus for cotton candy. It’s good to know our collective son is being fed. It takes a fandom to raise a human animal hybrid after all. Jokes aside, I’m going to be diving into spoilers for this chapter below the “Keep reading” so check it out if you’re curious. Also, ya’ll should probably hold onto your butts cause this one’s gonna go a lot of places.
Tumblr media
R.I.P T-Bone. As a lover of weird and offbeat characters in One Piece, I am genuinely crushed by T-Bone’s death. If you don’t remember, as he was mainly a minor antagonist in Water Seven, here are some reminders.
Tumblr media
He is one of the most lionhearted and kind character’s of One Piece, looking after both his subordinates and innocents. To me, the most logical way for T-Bone to have been killed is to have seen the citizens' plight and laid down on his sword so that he could get the reward money for his family. That’s the kind of man T-Bone was. He transcended the Marines as an institution and stood up to the strawhats as he believed them to be villains on the way to enact evil. After having his car disconnected and facing Rocketman bearing down on him, he faced Zoro in a one move duel, losing but having Zoro acknowledge him in the process. In a certain way he was also used to foreshadow Ryuma in Thriller Bark as he was skeletal looking and a swordsman. But most of all, he was an unquestionably good person in a world where muddled alliances and the forces of the world can waylay and mislead someone from their dreams and ideals. In my heart you will be missed T-Bone.
Tumblr media
Moving on, with a heavy heart, I do want to take a second to talk about old One Piece, specifically Water Seven. As I went back to get screenshots I couldn’t help but marvel at the art of Water Seven. While Oda’s art has probably gotten better, his paneling in those days was in my opinion, at the height of Shounen paneling, matching up with the original Dragon Ball in terms of fluidity of action but bringing such a heavy emotional weight to the characters and line work that it really felt like the peak of his art style. His art has gotten a lot more refined but I really missed the adventurous romantic feel of his pre-timeskip art. As a whole, as things get more dense and locked in, the lack of romanticism and sense of adventure is really felt at times. Despite that, it has been replaced, for the most part, with other equally amazing things. Though I can’t help but miss it at times.
Tumblr media
Talking about the actual chapter again, I’ve looked favourably on the Marines in the past, like Garp and Koby, but if I spend an extended period of time thinking about them, that pleasant taste turns to ash in my mouth. Because the Marines as an institution, are broken and corrupt, more intent on perpetuating themselves than they are with forward momentum and progress. As is the territory with institutions. It’s a portion of why policing doesn’t work in real life. Living in Japan, with their harsh views on crime, Oda would know better than most. Despite what this chapter seems to be about, this chapter is actually exploring what I believe to be one of the main themes of One Piece, the inevitability of institutions. There are probably punchier and more accurate ways of conveying this theme, such as systemic oppression and such, but this really resonates and covers the full gamut of ideas that I believe Oda covers. I will expand on this as we move along but I wanted to put it out there so it would be on the back of yalls mind.
Tumblr media
I absolutely despise Sengoku. Like as a person. As characters I don’t think there’s any that I actively dislike because the way Oda characterizes just works on me. I need to make that distinction because I think my dislike for Sengoku is something Oda has purposefully generated within me and others. Talking earlier about Koby and Garp and Hibari and T-Bone and other marines, there is a very important distinction to be drawn in that regard as well. And some very important points to be made. Marines that are on the younger side, like Koby and Hibari and Tashigi, are people that have joined the Marines to do good without having yet become fully complicit in its evils. But they have done so because it is, despite its flaws, the best way they can make a difference and not be stopped. It’s the inevitability of the institution, where despite it’s evils it must provide some sort of benefit, and where those with dreams must filter through it and make it greater just to have a shot at their dreams. People like T-Bone and Smoker are clearly different from similarly old people like Garp and Sengoku and Aokiji in that while the former may be in the Marines, they do their best outside of its systems, being forces of good in spite of their association. The latter on the other hand, as a result of their complicity, whether or not they have good hearts, have become tools of the Marines oppression. Garp’s name is repeatedly used to strike fear into the hearts of pirates and as a symbol for common people to look up to, despite his best attempts at changing them from the inside. And the argument for changing the Marines from the inside itself is such a flawed argument as can be seen with Garp himself. Trying his whole life to change things ended up with him being ground into the dirt while watching his grandson be murdered by a coworker. Dragon must have realized this as well and so created an organization to oppose it. The revolutionary army are an institution itself but one built on the premise of opposition rather than self perpetuation. They are meant to end when the World Government and Marines do. Though I do believe Oda also doesn’t think that to be the answer as our hero is a Pirate. Arriving at the end of this paragraph I just realized I didn’t address the moment that made me go on this tangent. As pictured above, Sengoku hears of T-Bone’s death and rather than mourn the man who many looked up to, he worries what it will do to morale. He wonders how the institution of the Marine’s will keep going. If he was ever a good man, the ways of the marines have corrupted him to think this way. In a way Cross Guild, another institution, also occupies a similar area as the Revolutionary Army, but Oda makes it even clearer that it’s not the way as our first big introduction to it is through the death of such a great character.
Tumblr media
Now let’s move on to the meat of this chapter. Buggy and Cross Guild. As we see above, this really down on his luck man was the one who killed T-Bone. Though knowing how strong T-Bone was, being called the ship slasher and being acknowledged by Zoro, as well as how kind he was, it’s easy to believe he let himself be killed to save this man's family. But it’s also through this interaction that we get a repeat of the theme that I mentioned earlier, The Inevitability of Institutions, as well as a great bonus where we see the inherent romanticism of Buggy. Buggy and his lackeys, Mihawk and Crocodile, have propped up Cross Guild to be an institution for Pirates, a much more successful version and iteration of both the Utopia Crocodile wanted and the Pirate Kingdom Blackbeard wants. They have made themselves the doors one must walk through. But this need also sets up the way that Buggy will later reject this monolithic thinking.
Tumblr media
As we see here, these institutions make it so that now, even to live, you must subscribe to one of them. As much as Cross Guild claims to be pirates, they are an entity in and of themselves. Because the whole dream of piracy is the freedom of not having to cater to anyone else's whims or conform. Cross Guild aren’t pirates, they’re Cross Guild. Another thing I want to comment on is the In the Flesh chants. Obviously the dramatic irony makes it funny since most of it is just cloth, but it’s also such a great representation of the makeup of Cross Guild itself. By propping up Buggy as the leader of Cross Guild, he comes to represent something that is mostly not him, just like how his giant persona isn’t him.
Tumblr media
In the panel above incorporates One Piece’s trademark humour, and later levies it into an emotionally resonant and stirring declaration. I know most people are freaking out about Sabo returning but I can’t get over how much I love Buggy. And his crew pulling a similar stunt to Barto Club, and having him be the figurehead of the ship actually also highlights how close Buggy is to Luffy as well. Also I love Buggy’s crying face, it’s so pathetic.
Tumblr media
I know this panel is mainly played for laughs but I can’t help but feel sorry for Buggy. He really hasn’t done that much wrong to deserve this. And seeing the meeting room, it seems Mihawk, the edgelord that he is, really enjoys his torture. Remember, Mihawk’s full name is Dracule Mihawk, the first part being based on the famous Vampire who’s namesake in turn was known to impale and torture people. It’s really interesting how, other than the mentor and goth side of Mihawk, we also get to see his sadistic side here. But Buggy’s declaration that his life wasn’t supposed to be like this really calls my attention. While Mihawk and Crocodile argue about how to make sure Cross Guild and Crocodile’s Utopia can stay afloat and perpetuate its own system, Buggy dreams.
Tumblr media
Buggy is one of Luffy’s best foils in the story, their interactions being so explosive that they can’t help but reveal things about each other. Luffy has a lot of parallels in the story from Blackbeard being a cowardly mirror to him to Koby being a weaker version whose cowardice was driven by his lack of strength. Buggy doesn’t have courage or strength and his circumstances had forced him down quite a dark path by the time the two crossed paths. Buggy was someone, who, seeing the potential of his peers, was forced to give up on his dreams and take the route that life gave him. As he stated, he never wanted to be what he became, he genuinely believed in Shanks and probably would have followed him had he set out for the One Piece as Shanks was the reason he gave up on the dream in the first place. Buggy, in an elevated sense, also represents those swayed by the circumstances of their life into having their path chosen for them and filtering into an institution, this time in the form of Cross Guild but earlier in the form of Impel Down. Buggy is someone who was forced to give up on his dreams and Oda shows what dark paths that can lead to but he also loves Buggy a lot because he doesn’t let Buggy fully give up on his dreams.
Tumblr media
And there it is. With just those words, driven purely by dreams, Buggy injects such a heart-stirring sense of romanticism back into the series. Because here's the thing. We already know Luffy’s unwavering goal has been the One Piece. And he is the most romantic character in the series in terms of love for adventure and exploration. But it’s been a constant and now he has the strength and clout to do all of it without barriers. Buggy is chasing that dream while impeded by some of the strongest people in the verse. In the face of such strong adversaries, Buggy dares to blindly dream and it reminds me so much of Luffy at the beginning of the series, looking down a Sea King as it stood in his path. Crocodile and Mihawk are monstrous but Buggy actively defies them. I love One Piece ya’ll.
Tumblr media
So is Buggy a bad guy? Or just a fool who couldn’t hold onto his dreams as the waves of reality slammed into him? Here, he rekindles those dreams by verbalizing the feelings that drove him and every other pirate out to sea. A dream of freedom and treasure. The dream that you could aim for something other than what life had laid out for you.
Tumblr media
This is by far, one of my favourite speeches in One Piece. It reminds me of Rogers speech and delivered by such a pathetic character, hits so much harder. By doing this, Buggy defies Crocodile and Mihawks desires for a self perpetuating kingdom as there is now an end goal and really stands for the ideals of the series itself, a blind dreaming hope, the desire to chase after impossible dreams, and the love of the journey itself. What matters to these people isn’t that they’ll get to the treasure, it’s that they tried to. And were free while doing so.
Tumblr media
Not me crying at Buggy D Clown. One Piece gets me so emotional sometimes. It’s so beautiful. But asides aside, let’s wrap up some other thoughts in this final Buggy panel before getting to Sabo and the Revos (good name for a band?). First of all before we get to what this symbolizes for the series itself, I want to say a few more things about Buggy. His situation of failing upwards has always been shown in a comedic light but I believe it shows the insidiousness of the world. Because while the lower rank people, like the man who killed T-Bone, have to get filtered through these organizations to live, so does someone like Buggy, who doesn’t have the strength to resist such a fate. If you don’t have the strength to resist these institutions, they will use you as tinder, as fuel. Luffy isn’t in an institution because he’s strong. Almost every other character in the series doesn’t have a choice against it. Wheen you think about it, Buggy’s story really is a tragedy. Somewhere along the way, through necessity of survival his values got twisted. He’s always been a dreamer through and through so I think that’s why it’s sent him on an upward trajectory. But it all began with Luffy, who not only set him on the right path, but also gave him hope when he broke him out of Impel Down.
And now the other purpose of this panel. With Buggy declaring his hunt for the One Piece, all 4 Yonkous are now on the hunt. Do ya’ll realize what this means? What the structure of the next arc is going to be? So this part is going to be mixed with some speculation and some evidence, but I strongly believe the next arc is going to be a showdown at Elbaf for the last poneglyph with every major Yonkou involved, with the final arc possibly after getting the One Piece or at the location itself being a showdown between Luffy, the Revos and the Marines. Or it very well could be a final showdown with all the involved parties at Elbaf. That all depends on how fast Oda wants to end things. I believe one of two people could be the man with the burn scars. The obvious choice is Jaguar D Saul. And that would be the way to go if Oda wanted to end the series faster, as him having the writings of Ohara as well as the last poneglyph would also set the Revos and the Marines scrambling after him. The other could be Scopper Gaban, the third prominent crew member of the Roger Pirates. That would be the final Roger Pirate marking Luffy’s journey and a great source of info. The last possible bead we had on him, if it wasn’t Shiki the lion, was him drinking with Crocus. But effectively, having one person hold the last key to the One Piece makes it so that the four Yonkou’s are on a collision course with them. I would love to see a Mad Max style race where the Yonkou’s are forced to clash purely for the love of adventure and their dreams, instead of ideological differences setting them against each other. It would be a really romantic and fun way to cap off some character’s journey’s.
Tumblr media
Moving on once again, we see some new Revo’s and I particularly love Ushiano and Ahiru. While the other two are also very cool, I love Ushiano’s way of speaking and his character design, he reminds of Barney but if he was soft and lovable. And Ahiru’s character design is just so great. I don’t know if anyone remembers Nami’s early character sketches but she was supposed to have a bionic arm so I’m really glad to see that return in another character.
Tumblr media
And here we get to see them interact with Sabo and find out that Ahiru was going to blast him. Ugh, Oda’s just so great with characterization! In about three panels we find out that she has a stoic demeanor, is a shoot first type of character, and worries about and misses Sabo, letting her guard down and being quite cheery around people she just met. And Ushiano is just adorable. I want to hug him.
Tumblr media
Oh yeah, Sabo’s back by the way. So it appears that Sabo did indeed survive the bombing of Lulusia and he’s seen something. His interaction with Koala is adorable and mirrors Koby and Hobari to a tee.
Tumblr media
And here we get the theme of this chapter rearing it’s head back one last time. Another set of down on their luck, weak citizens forced to filter through an Institution. This time the Lulusians through the Revolutionary Army. Oda has, in every instance possible in this chapter, where we look out into the world, highlighted the absolute despair involved in the inevitability of institutions and the forced choices that come with such a world. And is it a coincidence that this only happened when we took a look out into the world, away from our beloved strawhats? No, as we saw even earlier, through Aokiji being forced into the Blackbeard Pirates and the 100 damned souls onto beehive, in a world of inevitable institutions and forced choices, such decisions are forced on the weak. It’s why our protagonist is Luffy, and why he desires freedom. It’s exactly what he fights against, and it’s reflected in his crew as well as he took them away from the lives they thought they would be forced to lead.
Tumblr media
And finally we arrive at the final panel of this chapter. The truth about Mary Geoise. And a promise of a reveal. Oda usually likes to cut away at moments like this to maintain the breakneck pace of weekly releases but I really hope we get to learn what happened. Because it could very well contextualize for us what the next part will look like and whether or not the final confrontation will include everyone. It’s also very sweet that Sabo thinks about now involving his subordinates as it might get them killed. This information could also line up with the potential release of information that could happen from Egghead coming up so it could be saved for that. I’m really excited to see what it brings. Another thing that this chapter, being so good, makes me think about is how I’ll feel about it later when I binge the series. Because it’s always a balancing act between week to week storytelling and making an engaging continuous story. Back in Dressrosa, the week to week was a bit of a slog but on a reread and binge it was frankly amazing. I wonder if the breakneck speed and absolute amazing experience week to week right now will affect it negatively as a whole later on. Well, the only thing we can do right now is wonder and wait for next week.
If ya'll got this far, thanks for reading. I'm super late on this one but I'm glad I took my time because I could let my thoughts develop. And once again, if anyone wants to talk One Piece or any other manga with me in-depth, don't be afraid to hop into my dm's. See ya'll next time.

Note
Apparently the opla showrunners have stated that so far they have programmed six seasons in order to cover everything until marineford (they didn't specifally mention the arc but said "halfway in the story" and that is more or less marineford in terms of manga chapters/anime episodes)
They didn't say that at all lmao I read the whole interview and it was essentially one of the producers going "There's 1082 chapters of this thing!! Woah!! We could make six seasons and still cover not even half of it!!"
Which like, yeah no shit man HHH that interview was basically rich Hollywood man gets excited at the possibilities of making One Piece their new cash cow, cause it sounded like he'd never read One Piece in his life 😭😭

One Piece Chapter 1082 - Initial Thoughts
Tumblr media
Well this one took a while to get up, likely due to Golden Week and Viz saying no chapter for 2 weeks, but we finally got a scanlation from TCB so let's delve into it!
We've ticked stuff off with Kid and Law, Garp is ongoing, what's next on the agenda?
Spoilers for the Chapter, Support the Official Release
Chopper I don't think Nami will be happy if you eat Zeus
T-Bone Nooooooo! I liked that dude
Tsuru and Sengoku lament his murder as well
I guess it didn't help T-Bone's cause that he was in a kingdom dying of starvation, still why you gotta kill the guy who literally would give you the clothes off his back?
The Cross Guild's bounty system has put some unease in the Marines about people backstabbing them, but at the same time Pirates do deal with that on the daily
Hina shows up now, seems the only prominent Marines we haven't seen recently are Fujitora and Smoker
Hina tells them that Garp went off to save Koby, and took Tsuru's granddaughter with him
The wording implies that Garp is not in SWORD himself, he just 'teamed up' with them, even though his students are in SWORD...hmmm
Over to Buggy, congratulating the guy who killed T-Bone
This guy? I want to hate it, but he probably did it out of desperation, and I know T-Bone wouldn't have fought back against a civilian...I dunno I'm still in disbelief, sad disbelief
Buggy has a system of gassing up the culprit, then assuring them that they'll have protection by joining the Cross Guild
Heh, Barley-sama
The Cross Guild have a new ship annnnd it's Buggytastic, much to Buggy's distain
Yeah you shouldn't leave any creative designs solely under your men Buggy you should've learned that from the posters
The 'Meeting Room' aka Mihawk and Crocodile's torture dungeon where they beat up Buggy's head (settle down fanfic writers!)
Crocodile is still on his plans of Utopia, Mihawk's surprisingly okay with that though, guess a single state where he can just be in peace would suit his desires too
Buggy though disagrees with the plan, stating they're doing things backwards
More context in flashback to come with Shanks and Buggy
Huh, it seems Buggy's rift with Shanks is more than just the treasure map incident, Buggy gave up on Laugh Tale because he expected Shanks to be the one to get there, but then when Roger was executed Shanks decided against going for the time being, which kinda stumped Buggy
It's an interesting new dimension that Buggy's disdain for Shanks is rooted more in disappointment, since he feels let down that Shanks didn't follow in Roger's footsteps
But since Shanks is now going after the One Piece, and Buggy is deemed his equal as a Yonko, he wants to go to Laugh Tale first
Crocodile and Mihawk of course disagree, wanting to be smarter than just picking fights with the other Yonko, but Buggy notes that it's about getting to the treasure
He then uses the crew to rally his point, reminding them all of the reason they set out to sea
Of course the minions love it, so Crocodile and Mihawk have no choice in the matter anymore
Back to the Revolutionaries and there's a ship from afar
Each of the Commanders' subordinates/vice captains are checking it out
Cow Man is Ushiano, subordinate of Morley
Metal arm girl is Ahiru, subordinate of Betty
Round Checkered dude is Gyamble, subordinate of Lindbergh
And the dude eating what looks to be a glass bottle is Jiron, subordinate of Karasu
Sabo's alive!
Gyamble you made the bet you cough it up!
Oh they're Binoculars he's eating
Sabo managed to save some Lulusia people, including the milk girl from the Ace cover story
Koala is rightfully angry and relieved at the same time
He...wasn't on Lulusia when it happened? But we saw him in the light...We haven't seen Catarina Devon for a while...though he did know the people's names
Sabo is having a private convo with Ivankov and Dragon though, noting that what he knows could endanger them
Okay Oda, are you REALLY gonna tell us what happened in the Reverie? Or are you gonna move to another situation and follow up with the Revolutionaries after Sabo's told them?
A lot going down in that chapter, as I suspected though still not done with the external plots, I must admit I do miss my merry band of pirates.
Still in disbelief about T-Bone though, might be one of the 5 fans he has but he was a good guy, one of the few good marines in that whole shindig and to be off-screened like that it just doesn't sit well with me. A big part of me hopes it's some kind of con, and maybe T-Bone faked his death so the people would have money, but that's me being Carrot4Nakama levels of hopeful.
Strangely enough Crocodile and Mihawk did lose points for me, they feel like quitters compared to Buggy's impassioned speech about pursuing the very top of your desires. I suppose Mihawk is less so since he's already the top of his field, but Crocodile feels like he just wants to be a king, even though we know from Miss Goldenweek's (coincidence?) cover story that Crocodile's dream is to be Pirate King. Buggy won some charisma points there, but you had T-Bone killed so minus points for that too! Strangely though I didn't lose points on Shanks, understanding more about why Buggy is mad was illuminating and adds more points there but part of me feels like Shanks knew something Buggy didn't, we never know what Roger said to him after returning from Laugh Tale, Roger also wanted his son to be the one who would shake the world, and Rayleigh even said 'we were too early', so I don't feel like Shanks is a quitter as much, he was waiting for the right moment.
I had no doubts that Sabo was alive, but I am curious about his comment of not being at Lulusia during the incident. He did save a bunch of people so I am more inclined to believe it's actually him, but there is that seed of doubt.
While there's 'no break next week' for Oda there might be one for Shonen Jump so we'll monitor that situation, but it feels like the most earth shattering twists of this arc are still lying in wait.

fine morning F61 ¼° now at 8 55/.. reading Murray (Siberia) till breakfast at 9 ½ in about ¾ hour then reading and making notes from Murray ii. Siberia 1086 et seq. till perhaps about half past eleven when Mr. de Fischer de Waldheim came and sat talking  till 12 40/.. – asked if I was related to Dr. Martin Lister – said I was of the same family – much talk but nothing very particular – Evident that he is very honourably laid on the shelf, to be succeeded by younger men – asked us to dinner at 3pm. on Sunday – promised to go – A- asked respecting the Mongol idol (vid. Guide de Moscou ii. p. 21) Yamantaga [Yamantaka?] – the lingam somehow I never thought of her asking about it I hesitated a moment whether to hint to Mr. F- that A- understood not what she asked  and then I let the thing pass  trusting to manage some way  on Sunday   nor shall I hint to A- the real thing   it would only confuse and add to her already too great mauvaises honte – it seems F- has written a description of the idol  given? by one of the Demidoffs who said he had it from his ancestors – said to have been made in Thibet [Tibet] – of silver – F- promised to look for his paper on the subject for A-! F- no botanist – spoke of his son as head of the botanical garden here –has invented some great telescopic improvement – savant – but très ‘sauvage’ – Qu’est ce que cela veut dire? – had just written the above so far at one  - till 2 25/.. reading and making notes from Murray – have read today article
Siberia vol. 2 pp. 1072 to section 2 on geology of p. 1075. and from p. 1082 zoology to p. 1095 end of article on Siberia – then till 3 ½ read and made notes from p. 1075 (Geology and botany) to top of p. 1081 out at 3 ¾ - drove to the Kremlin gardens 1st time for a little walk, and walked ¾ hour – A- and I in spite of the little damp and almost drizzling small rain – agreeably surprised to find such nice gravel walks – so beautifully kept and so long – probably 1/4m. to the long covered way (under the road into the Kremlin) and 1/4m. farther to the rise of the ground out of the garden leading to the highroad parallel with the river – very nice gardens – it is here I think of taking my ordinary morning walks when nothing better offers – then to a nice German womans’ shop for [cold.] worsted for A- to knit muffetees for herself and me – a handsome piece of worked on canvass carpet 300/. this led to the question of having carpets here – Mrs. Howard ought to give us a piece for the salon for near the tea-table – home at 5 ¼ - dressed – wrote the last 9 ½ or ten lines – dinner at 6 5/.. in about ¾ hour – Had not so long as usual to wait between the courses, having spoken about it this morning – after dinner looking into Mérats botany and Murray till Mr. de Richter came about soon after 7 ½ and staid till 8 ½ - It seems he would be glad to give me lesson in Russian – at liberty every day till 10 ½ am and from 5pm. for the rest of the day – said I would think about it and let him know – his intermediate time is passed at the university – Did not get my letter till 2pm. today, or would have come in the morning – the letter
was left at the academy, chez un autre Mr. Alexander de Richter, professor of chirurgie – who sent the letter our little low-speaking professor of German parents but born here – he asked if it was I who had just sent (to the university of course) the life of George Cuvier – Droll enough – Mr. de F- this morning spoke of the Ladys’ work on fossils, and Mr. de R- ce soir of the Ladys’ Life of Cuvier – the fossil-lady is a relative of Robert Brown the botanist in London curator of the Banks herbarium, not of un nommé Bennet as said de F- this morning -  her work (on fossils) so good, it was supposed to be écrit par un homme, and the university made her an honorary member and sent her a diploma in she is styled Esquire, at which (said Mr. Brown here 2 years ago for 10 days par curiosité) she laughed very much – I said she ought to be proud of the honour etc.etc. – I must enquire the names and see the works of these 2 ladies – tea on Mr. de R-‘s going away at 8 ½ - and wrote the last 16 lines till near 9 ½ - then reading Murray Siberian botany and reading Mérat – had Grotza till 11 then at Merat ¼ hour fine day till damp and a little drizzling small rain between 4 and 5pm. – F61 ½° now at 11 ¼ pm

Jade // Kelila
Another Kell and Lila one shot. This is going to have a part II, but you can read it as a standalone. As usual, I hope you enjoy it!
Couple: Kelila, Kell Maresh and Lila Bard Fandom: Shades of Magic Rating: T+ Words: 1082
Ch 1:  JADE ;  Ch 2:  VELVET ; Ch 3: ANCHOR ; Ch 4: THUNDER ; Ch 5: FEAST ; EPILOGUE
“A royal event. Yikes,” Lila exclaimed from the sofa.
She laid on the far end of the furniture with her feet perched on Kell’s legs. He had just returned from an errand and was tired. His hair was in disarray and his shirt already unbuttoned and ready to be discarded for a pajama, but first, he said he needed to sit down.
“You know I hate events as much as you do,” Kell replied lazily as his hands massaged Lila’s feet. It came naturally to act domestic with her, as if they had known each other for years instead of months. “But this is a masked event, which means we can leave when we get tired of mingling in with the crowd.”
Lila raised one eyebrow and nodded. “That’s pretty great. Fantastic.” Her voice betrayed her annoyance, but Kell was used to it. She didn’t like public events, considering she couldn’t pick pockets anymore.
“Rhy said it’s just to show other royals that we are holding up after everything went down,” he explained, and adjusted his head on the back of the couch and closed his eyes to rest his eyelids.
“Then what?”
Kell’s eyes snapped open and he glanced at Lila. “Then what, what?”
“What do we do?” Lila inquired, her eyes trained on his hands who were still working on her feet and ankles. Their eyes met for a moment, and she tilted her head on the side expectantly. “You don’t have to do that, you know.”
“What shouldn’t I do,” he murmured. His voice laced with fatigue and he yawned after he spoke.
Lila removed her feet from Kell’s limbs and sat down closer to him. He blinked twice, quite confused, or probably too sleepy to function. “You’re dead tired, Kell.”
“So, what,” he said. It was a question but it came out as a simple affirmation.
On his side, Lila sighed. “Come on, let’s get you to bed.” She grabbed his arm and pushed him off the sofa. Damn, he was already sleeping standing, and it made things harder. But he managed to walk at least, and she could reach the bed in less time than she imagined. Kell tried to sit down and swayed because she didn’t let him. “Wait, you can’t sleep with your coat on,” she admonished him, then proceeded to remove his clothes until he was naked from the waist up. He was half away in the world of dreams, it seemed, because when she was finally done and helped him under the silk sheets, he fell asleep in no time. Lila crawled in bed next to him and adjusted the covers so that they were both tucked in, then she put her head on his inviting arm and tried to sleep as well. He kissed her hair before finally dozing off.
The following day, Lila woke up to find the bed empty of Kell. His side of the bed was made – it was so like him, ugh – and she couldn’t see his coat anywhere. She rubbed her eyes and got out of bed. Today she also had something to do because of the royal event Rhy, king Rhy, had organized for the city. She didn’t have to go far from the palace at all, and it bothered her. She wanted to do more things, but after the situation with the shadow king had settled down, Red London was as normal as always. And the ball was proof of its return to mundanity, to ordinary life. Lila thought that had she not met Kell, she would have probably been lost, always looking for an adventure. Which wasn’t wrong, but she craved for safety now, after she had tasted it for so long. And Kell gave her the stability she had never had. He gave her love, a family…
“Ugh, it’s too hot,” she protested. She had just had a sip of tea but it burnt her lips.
“Are you talking about me?” Alucard said from the doorway. He was in his morning attire, as nonchalant as ever. She noticed he had a box in his hands, and she frowned.
“You’re in a good mood, I see. Happy for the ball?”
He rolled his eyes and extended the mysterious box to her. “Let’s just say that as much as I love to be around people, I had something planned for our king –“
“Do not say it, I beg of you.” Lila interjected, raising her index finger to stop him from continuing. “And what’s this thing?”
“Don’t you see? It’s a pretty box with I don’t know what inside.”
She grabbed the box and put it on the table next to her, where her tea was cooling down. “It’s probably for Kell.”
Alucard shrugged, then pointed to a small envelope on it. “There’s your name over there, isn’t it?”
She snatched the envelope away before he could reach for it and realized it was true. She was about to open it when she glared at the captain.
“What? Do I need to leave?”
“What do you think?”
He sighed and turned his back, heading towards the door. “I’ve already read it, by the way. Your loverboy is sickly sweet, I was about to throw up my breakfast.”
“Alucard!” Lila screamed angrily, but he was already outside of the room. At least, she was alone with the yellow envelope. She finally dared to look at it and saw her name on the front written in an elegant and neat handwriting. Then she took the piece of paper folded inside and read.
Lila.
I am aware you hate this ball, but I will try to cheer you up still. In this box there is something for you. Maybe you will hate it, maybe you will like it. Do with it what you want. I’ll see you tonight.
- K
She threw the paper on the floor and opened the box in a hurry. Her suspicious were right, because the container held a beautiful dress made of red velvet. It was beautiful even folded, but what caught her attention more was the knife with the jade handle on the top of it. She touched the blade with affection, examined the way it was polished, clear. It was wonderful. She put the blade to her chest and grinned. Was this what being loved by someone meant? She thought so. And she couldn’t wait to show Kell that the feeling was mutual. Her excitement for this ball intensified a bit.

Aw, hun!! ALWAYS!! I love writing for Scotty. He’s such a damn sweetheart. I have this one and another that I’m going to be posting today. I hope they’re the fluff you need, Nonnie!!
Title: Bad Days
Summary: Scott just wants to help Y/N.
Pairing: Scott x Reader
Word Count: 1082 (whelp that became a one shot XD)
Warnings: Depressive episode, lot of comfort fluff
--
Tumblr media
Scott had always raised Cassie to understand that it’s okay to have highs and lows. It’s normal actually. There’s never anything wrong with a day, a week, or any longer just…feeling bad. Sometimes it can’t be helped. And what matters is that it’s not expected for anyone to just get over that feeling.
However, he never realized how well Y/N hid her moments. Her days. Not until now. He had knocked on her door, wanting to check on the flu she had claimed to have. What he had found wasn’t his girlfriend curled up in her fuzzy blanket and socks, surrounded by uneaten soup, a lot of tissues, and maybe some cheesy chick flicks.
No, instead he had used his spare key to get in. He had found all the lights off and windows drawn. Things he never expected. She always liked the light. Scott took note of the small kitchen – the dishes that had been untouched for what he guessed were days.
“Y/N,” he called, refusing to shout too loud. Just in case a migraine had been the cause of all of this. “Y/N, it’s me.” He shuffled through the house, seeing that laundry had been attempted but never finished.
The pieces were starting to make sense.
Instead of knocking, Scott quietly opened the door. His heart broke to see her blankets curled in a heap. Her body was tucked underneath, impossible to make out around everything. His decision made, Scott continued to let her sleep. At least for now. He had some work to do.
-
Y/N moaned softly, rolling over and opening her eyes. She didn’t know what time it was and really, she couldn’t bring herself to care. She silently made the promise that she would be back in as soon as she relieved her bladder. It was simply forcing herself out of bed that had been the problem.
Bare feet cold against the floor, she padded down to the bathroom. It was less than five minutes before she was washing her hands and dabbing cold water against her face. Ten steps and she would be back in bed. Safe under the covers.
But then she heard the timer on her dryer. When – She couldn’t recall attempting the laundry. Who the fuck was in her home?
Stepping out of the bathroom, Y/N combed her fingers through her hair and pulled it into a bun. It was an attempt to look put together. A poor one. A messy one. But still an attempt.
Tugging on her sleeves, her fingers curled around the fabric as she followed the sound of running water. She rounded the corner, nearly jumping out of her skin when she saw Scott finishing the dishes. He was humming a tune, completely unaware that she even caught him. Voice tired, still rough from sleep, she asked, “Scott?”
He looked up, flashing a small smile. “Hey.” It wasn’t as excited as she was used to. He was keeping himself calm. For her. Shutting off the faucet, he dried his hands and leaned against the counter. “I came by to check on how you were feeling.”
Right. She was supposed to have the flu.
“I – Uh…” Y/N leaned on the counter across from him, hugging herself. She felt so…on the spot. “I’m sorry for lying.”
Scott shook his head. “No. Don’t apologize.” Crossing the small space, Scott gently uncurled her arms from her waist. “You have nothing to apologize for. Okay?” He intertwined their hands, thumbs running over the back. “If it’s fine with you…I’d like to help.”
Y/N opened her mouth to speak, but no words would form. She hadn’t expected that. She expected anger. Maybe accusations. The words “lazy” and “weak”. But then she remembered who she was talking about. Scott. Sweet Scott who did everything he could for his daughter. The one who understood rough days.
She smiled. It was small. A bare crack, but still a smile. Y/N rest her forehead on his shoulder, letting him wrap his arms around her. “Thank you.”
Scott kissed her hair. His fingers gently tracing circles on her low back. “C’mon.” He trailed his fingers up her spine and along her shoulder blades. “Let me change the sheets on your bed, get them in the wash, and we can watch some tv. How’s that sound?” A small nod and Scott smiled. There was absolutely no pushing here. She was in complete control. “And if I piss you off, feel free to kick me out.”
Y/N snorted, gently nudging his stomach with her fingers. “Okay.”
-
Scott had gone the extra step to throw in the new sheets in the dryer. While that happened, they were in the tub. His fingers combed through her shampooed hair before he took the shower head in hand. “Tilt your head back,” he whispered. With eyes closed, she did as he said, practically purring from the sweet touches. He washed her hair clean before taking the rag. Soaping it up, he got to work cleaning her skin. It was comforting.
Intimate.
She had let him turn on a lamp and light a couple candles. It was a fair compromise. Something he appreciated that she trusted. In fresh shorts and a t-shirt, Y/N sat on the bed as Scott gently brushed her hair. She had never expected him to go to such lengths to care for her. “Now,” he murmured, brow furrowing as he tried to remember the steps. “I’m a little rusty, but I’m going to try a braid.”
Y/N giggled, resting her arms on her crossed legs. “I’m trusting you.”
Scott looked up at her. He couldn’t quite see her face. But the trust was there. The comfort was there too. He could see it in her relaxed shoulders. Looking at his finished work, he laughed. Her fingers lightly brushed the creation. It was a braid. Sort of. She fell back, a bigger smile tugging at her lips as her head fell in his lap. He looked down at her, brushing her hair out of her face. “I did say I was rusty.”
“I know.” She closed her eyes, relishing in the feel of his light touches over her cheekbones and jaw. Softer, she repeated, “I know.” The softness was quickly interrupted though. Scott’s fingers pushed against her cheek, squishing her face as she tried not to laugh. Opening one eye, she watched him lean closer to her.
“So,” he whispered, pressing a small kiss against her forehead. “What show should we watch?”

*cracks knuckles*
so i’ve been working on a project. here is your first glimpse of this project.
[wolf 359, canon divergence AU from the start of s4, according to the scripts the mutiny was day 1082 & the contact event was day 1083]
teaser: but what's puzzling you is the nature of my game. Plus, blind loyalty, next quarter's budgets, quantum threading, substandard TV, and all this time.
===
HEPHAESTUS DAY 1101 / MARCH 28, 2017:
On the gravel-covered roof of the main Goddard Futuristics administration building, nestled between two air conditioning units, sits a satellite dish not listed on any blueprints. In and of itself, this isn't suspicious. But apart from its odd location, it isn't marked with a manufacturer's logo or even a serial number, and it seems far too small to provide more than a substandard TV service.
Sprawled on the gravel nearby is Marcus Cutter, fanning himself with a folder of reports from personnel scouts located in minor but secure positions across a wide variety of companies and state departments. "Do you ever wonder," he muses, "where humanity would be without us?"
There is a slim laptop plugged into the satellite dish and a microphone plugged into the laptop and Miranda Pryce is tending to both, sitting cross-legged and heedless of the stifling humidity. "No," she says.
"They'd probably still be stuck in the solar system, bless their hearts." By now, he has gotten used to carrying most of the load during conversations with Miranda Pryce. "A couple permanent outposts on Mars, maybe an aerostatic platform on Venus if they could solve the sulfuric acid thing. Plodding researchers all pulling in different directions, never really getting anywhere significant."
"'Disturb us, Lord, to dare more boldly, to venture on wilder seas where storms will show Your mastery; where losing sight of land, we shall find the stars'," she quotes absently.
"Yes, exactly. If we weren't around to disturb them, they'd never bother to lose sight of land." He checks his watch, sighs, and continues fanning himself. "I like to think they'd have cracked fusion power, at least. But in my more melancholic moments I remember that it's 2017 and they're still murdering each other for oil."
"There are worse ways to spend an evening," she replies. "Stuck waiting with you when you're feeling philosophical, just as a random example."
"Now, Miranda," he says, very patiently, "we both know that if it was up to me, we wouldn't be waiting at all--"
"Oh, yes, how will you ever find it in your heart to forgive me for wanting a slightly more solid confirmation of outstanding phenomena than the word of Warren Kepler." She stabs the laptop keys in disgust. "That proposal was ill-conceived from start to finish and I don't know what possessed me to sign off on it. Finding someone amusing doesn't make them qualified for the execution of our life's work."
"It isn't only Warren's word--"
"Fine, the word of Warren Kepler and a handful of miscellaneous rejects." Her lip curls. "I've been brushing up on the Hephaestus's active portfolio and I just have to say: of course it would be them. Why couldn't it have been the U.S.S. Anaideia? Or the U.S.S. Themis, that crew has consistently tested in the eighty-fifth percentile for 'blind loyalty' over the last two years they've been in the sky. Which would be really useful right now."
"On the subject of how much you hate dealing with people, unmanned probes have always been cheaper and quicker to build," Cutter points out. They've had this argument before, but if they didn't both enjoy rehashing old arguments one of them would've murdered the other a very long time ago. "We could've achieved this level of coverage by the nineties, maybe even the eighties if you'd just listened to me back then."
"And if I'd listened to you back then, we'd be sitting on two or three decades of useless data," Pryce scoffs. "Unmanned probes aren't a very tempting piece of bait, are they? Can't catch a fish if you're not willing to skewer a few hundred worms."
As the one who gets the most enjoyment out of skewering worms, he really shouldn't protest, but he's bored. "An unmanned probe would've returned these results by now."
"No, it wouldn't, because radiation moves the same speed in a vacuum whether it's being looked at by a machine or an eyeball," she says, saccharine and condescending. "I am not moving forward on the virtue of one data point, Marcus, and if you had a single gram of sense in your entire skull then you wouldn't either."
He rolls onto his stomach facing her and bats his eyelashes. "So you catch me alone on the roof of our workplace at night, and then you start sweet-talking me? Why, Miranda, I never thought that you'd--"
"Quick, shut up," she says, shoving the microphone at him. "Bunker E just started building a live transmission with the Hermes. Outside of Goddard's official channels, the best line-of-sight is an ESA lunar research base to an American telecom satellite."
Cutter sits up, all business. "Who cares if those go dark for ten minutes? Do it."
"Already done."
"Estimated total lag?"
"Four minutes, fifty-three seconds."
He hums, disappointed, and picks up the microphone. "I can just about work with that. Get it down to three and a half next time, okay?"
She mutters something nasty about quantum threading under her breath as the comms channel opens. A third of the message is lost to static, but it's still mostly comprehensible.
"Visual--of Wolf 359 on--and short-range scans. We've sent--raw images from--scope, they're unbelievable. Even--what would happen--wasn't prepared to see it myself, still don't like to think--possible. Repeat: Hermes Actual--independent confirmation of hue change in--59 as reported by Urania upon arrival at Hephaestus station. Further instructions?"
The uplink crackles. Despite the five-minute delay, Cutter drags the silence out nice and long before saying in cold, clipped tones, "That'll have to be sufficient. Maintain mission parameters. I will keep this in mind when reviewing our budgets for this coming quarter."
He doesn't wait for the commander of the Hermes to respond, just closes the channel the moment he finishes speaking and then turns a three-thousand-watt smile on Pryce. "Has that finally laid your atrocious cynicism to rest?"
"So the first step of the process actually happened," she sniffs. "Doesn't mean that all the rest of the steps have followed. But for the sake of expedience, yes, I suppose we can make that assumption." Her gaze drifts upward, to the panorama of stars half drowned by light pollution, and her voice goes soft. "I never doubted our odds of finding them again. Still, after all this time..."
"I know." His gaze drifts upward as well. "Won't be much longer now."

The NYC Late Night Delivery Guide added to Google Docs
The NYC Late Night Delivery Guide
While you usually have a vague idea of when and what you’ll be eating for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, you don’t usually think about getting late-night food until it’s already late-night. And then when salt and fat suddenly seem as necessary as fluffed pillows and accessible phone chargers before going to bed, you’re left scrambling to find something more exciting than the shredded wheat in your pantry. Thanks to the 16 spots on this guide, you don’t need to scramble anymore.
the spots  Noah Devereaux Joe's Pizza $ $ $ $ Pizza  in  West Village $$$$ 7 Carmine St 8.6 /10
The Cloisters is temporarily closed and The Knicks have had to take a break from losing, but one NYC institution that’s still here for you is Joe’s. Order their thin, foldable, fantastic NY-style pies from any of their five locations around Manhattan and Williamsburg, all of which deliver until midnight or later every day.
Tatsu Ramen $$$$ 167 1st Ave
From a directorial debut that went on an hour too long to a virtual date that went on for an hour too short, there are countless reasons you may feel like hovering your face over a steaming bowl of soup at 11pm. When that urge hits, order the “soul ramen” with beef and pork for delivery from Tatsu Ramen in the East Village.
Barrow Street Ale House $$$$ 15 Barrow St
Sports bars are judgment-free zones. Granted, the people sitting next to you may insult you, your parents, and your non-existent significant other based on how you react to a foul call, but at least they won’t bat an eye when you order a Lynchburg lemonade, basket of buffalo wings, and cheesesteak at 2am. And nobody will think twice when those things arrive at your doorstep from Barrow Street Ale House. This West Village sports bar delivers until 2am daily, and 3am Thursday-Saturday.
 The Commodore $ $ $ $ Bar Food ,  Southern  in  Brooklyn ,  Williamsburg $$$$ 366 Metropolitian Ave. 7.9 /10
The Commodore is the kind of place where you can hang out for hours eating bar snacks and sipping frozen pina coladas, or show up for a tequila banderas and fried chicken sandwich at the end of the night. And thanks to The Commodore’s takeout and delivery menu, your apartment is that kind of place now too. Order takeout or delivery from this Williamsburg bar until 11pm every day.
Ray's Candy Store $$$$ 113 Avenue A
Ray’s is like a state fair, but without the adults trying way too hard to win stuffed animals. This classic East Village spot’s deep-fried Twinkies, chili-cheese dogs, soft serve ice cream, and banana split sundaes are available for delivery every day until midnight, and takeout until 4am.
 Noah Devereaux Harlem Shake $ $ $ $ Burgers  in  Harlem $$$$ 100 W. 124th St. 7.5 /10
Harlem Shake serves a bunch of different burgers, including one topped with mayo and jerk fries, and just as many chicken sandwiches. You can’t go wrong with any of them, especially at 2am with a side of chili cheese fries, but you can and will go wrong if you don’t get a shake as well.
 Lil Frankies $ $ $ $ Pizza ,  Pasta ,  Italian  in  East Village $$$$ 19 1st Ave. 8.5 /10
Whether you get chicken parm with spaghetti pomodoro or a pizza topped with meatball ragu from Lil’ Frankies, you’ll have enough food to get you through the first two hours of Gone With The Wind tonight, and enough leftovers for the second two hours tomorrow morning. Delivery is available until midnight during the week and 2am on weekends.
 Noah Devereaux Frank $ $ $ $ Pasta ,  Italian  in  East Village $$$$ 88 2nd Ave 7.4 /10
Frank is from the same people as Lil Frankies, and this East Village spot also offers delivery until midnight or later every day. But rather than pizzas, the focus here is on pastas, like orecchiette with broccoli rabe and sausage, or squid ink linguini with seafood.
The Halal Guys $$$$ 720 Amsterdam Ave
Just because you’re sitting by your router rather than standing by the bartender who smiled at you once in 2017, you can still keep your post-bar routines intact. Specifically, you can still end the night with a falafel wrap or beef gyro platter from any of the three locations of Halal Guys, which all deliver until midnight or later every day.
 Noah Devereaux Black Swan $ $ $ $ Bar Food  in  Bedford-Stuyvesant ,  Brooklyn $$$$ 1048 Bedford Ave Not
Rated
Yet
You think adding the caramel-topped bread pudding to your order from The Black Swan is over the top? Well, that ship already sailed with the “swanimal fries” covered in melted cheese and caramelized onions, or with the fried chicken doused in jalapeno gravy. So you might as well just go all in, and throw in some Maltesers with your delivery order from this English pub in Bed-Stuy.
Empanada Mama $ $ $ $ Latin  in  Hell's Kitchen $$$$ 765 9th Ave Not
Rated
Yet
Almost every dish at Empanada Mama consists of combinations of meats and sauces inside pockets of bread. But knowing that is about as informative as knowing Eleven likes waffles. The very long menu at this Hell’s Kitchen diner ranges from a massive breakfast burrito to spicy chicken arepas to 25 different types of empanadas, and it’s all available for takeout or delivery until midnight every day.
 Noah Devereaux Sushi Dojo $ $ $ $ Sushi  in  East Village $$$$ 110 1st Ave. 8.1 /10
On the one hand, you want something delicious, but on the other, you don’t want to feel like sh*t when you wake up in a few hours. Rather than sacrifice your morning, or worse, your late-night meal, order sushi from Sushi Dojo in the East Village. Everything from individual pieces of nigiri to 15-piece omakase boxes are available for delivery until 11pm daily.
Patricia's $$$$ 1082 Morris Park Ave
The good news is Patricia’s has most of the key late-night food groups - from pizza and chicken parm to rigatoni alla vodka and cannolis - available for takeout and delivery until 11pm on weekdays and midnight on weekends. The bad news is the menu at this classic Italian-American spot in Morris Park is very long, and without some impressive willpower, you’re going to end up eating leftover fettuccine alfredo and four-cheese pizza for days, which actually doesn’t sound too bad at all.
Corner Bistro $ $ $ $ American ,  Burgers  in  Long Island City $$$$ 47-18 Vernon Blvd Not
Rated
Yet
The burger patties at Corner Bistro are like the lovechild of a steak and a meatball. It’s not fancy, but it is big, juicy, and delicious. Top it with cheese and a couple slices of greasy bacon, and order for delivery from their location in Hell’s Kitchen or pickup from their place in LIC.
 Noah Devereaux Melba's $ $ $ $ Southern  in  Harlem $$$$ 300 W 114th St 8.3 /10
Melba’s in Harlem offers takeout until midnight and delivery until 11pm every day. Melba’s also serves Southern fried chicken with eggnog waffles and strawberry butter. You could compartmentalize these two pieces of information, but that’d be a very strange thing to do. Instead, consider them together the next time you’re looking for some fantastic late-night food.
Maya Taqueria $ $ $ $ Tacos ,  Mexican  in  Brooklyn ,  Prospect Heights $$$$ 637 Vanderbilt Ave Not
Rated
Yet
The burritos at Maya Taqueria are approximately the size of 1980s car phones. You certainly won’t need to order anything else, but you won’t complain about having a few churros afterwards, or finding some chicken mole tamales in your fridge tomorrow. Their locations in Prospect Heights and Park Slope are offering pickup and delivery until 11:45pm every day.

Last Friday the CDC announced they are now advising everyone to wear a cloth face-covering mask in public to slow the spread of coronavirus. This also makes it possible to save the medical grade masks for the medical community and those that have a higher risk of infection. I looked at tons of different DIY face mask patterns and ended up drafting my own after not liking the way many of them fit. The pattern I’ve made is for a simple reversible, washable face mask with elastic loops. You can replace the elastic with ties if preferred.
If you don’t sew and want to purchase ready-made masks, I have been putting a few for sale in my Etsy shop: Sew Geek Mama on Etsy. I have been donating most of what I make and the masks on Etsy help cover the costs of that.
From Pretend Super Hero Capes to Real Life Saving Masks
I have a lot of fabric leftover from when I made costumes, so I’ve been going through my super hero stash and using what I have to make them. My masks were made from polyester satin, but most people have been using cotton. The first ones I made were all from my Wonder Woman cape fabric, so that’s why they are red, white and blue! You can make them in one solid color using any fabric you prefer.
DIY Face Mask Pattern and Tutorial
The pattern I drafted is based on several I found online, with a few tweaks. It makes a double layer, reversible mask that contours around the nose and hooks over the ears with elastic. You’ll need to cut out four pieces of fabric and use two 5 1/2″ pieces of elastic. Use 7″ elastic for larger heads. If printed at the correct size, the bottom side should be 5 1/2″ inches and the ends 3″.

Instructions for Sewing Face Mask
1) Trace your pattern onto the side of the fabric you don’t want to show and cut out four pieces. I normally put pins in after I trace it, but before I cut it so it keeps the pieces together.
2) You’ll have two sets of mask pieces when cut out. Straight stitch these down the front side using 1/4″ seam allowance. The setting I used on my sewing machine was A2. A lot of patterns suggest doing little cuts on the curved ends. I tried it both ways and didn’t see much of a difference in the final product so you can probably skip that step. Sometimes I add it if my seam comes out wider than I expected.
3) Open up your pieces and pin the right sides of the fabric together, so you sew on the seamed sides, using the same stitch and seam allowance. Don’t worry which way the seam lies. I tried it several different ways- same direction, opposite, opened-up…and the end result was pretty much all the same.
4) Now it’s time to flip it right side out and sew the ends! I use an iron for this part. You’re going to flip the raw edges in about 1/4″ – 1/2″, basically as much as you need to get a straight line. I put a pin in the middle and then flatten it with the iron.
5) Next take your elastic – I use 5 1/2″ for regular size and about 7″ for larger heads/faces – and tuck it in the open ends and pin in place.
6) Use a zigzag stitch down the open ends, backstitching over the elastic to make sure it is held in place. The setting I use on my machine for this part is C2. Do both sides and you are done! I like to finish it up with the iron to make sure everything lies nicely.
If the elastic feels a little tight on the ears, I found it loosens up if you give it a few good tugs. Also, if you want to make one with open ends to insert a filter, just finish the edges after you sew the front ends together, and then just zigzag the elastic in place at the top and bottom.
Hope you found this tutorial easy to understand! If you have any questions, please post them. Good luck and stay safe out there!

PERFECT INTERIOR DESIGN IS AVAILABLE TO EVERYONE
  House Beautiful
Luxe
Habitually Chic
Remodelista
Monday we showed you four homes that all have something in common.  Something free that makes every interior the best it can be.  Did you figure out what we are talking about?   It’s in traditional design and in modern design.  Farmhouse to Jetson decor.  Your home and ours.
DRUMROLL PLEASE….
SUNLIGHT
You, no doubt, have already figured out that natural light is what we are talking about.  Yet how often is it the first thing you think about when dreaming of the decor and design of your home?  When you surf the internet, deciding between one area rug or the other, do you think about how the light falls in the room?  How adding that rug will absorb or reflect the natural light in the room?  Not often, right?
WE DO…EVERY PROJECT
After listening to you, our client, as we discussed in Monday’s Post Here, the next thing we are doing as we chat is looking at how the light is in your home.  Why is this so important?  It’s something we can’t change.  The sun is going to come up everyday, and will come into your home the way it wants to no matter how charming we are.  Since not many of us want to live under a rock, natural light is an asset in our home’s decor.  We want it and want a lot of it.  The more the better.  Last we looked, we still can’t “buy” sunlight.  It’s free to everyone.   Let’s look at some amazing examples of spaces that have taken full advantage of the sun and learn more about this fabulous friend.
IN ARCHITECTURE
One of our favorite parts of a project, new construction in particular, is watching an architect walking around a piece of property saying little but thinking far into the future.  Following them while they plan the very best plotting of the structure has taught us how to look at the interior design to grab every last ray of this free amenity as well.
Sunny Kitchens Are Warm and Inviting All Year Round
    IN PHOTOGRAPHY
The golden hour, sometimes called the “magic hour”, is roughly the first hour of light after sunrise, and the last hour of light before sunset, although the exact duration varies between seasons.  During these times the sun is low in the sky, producing a soft, diffused light which is much more flattering than the harsh midday sun that so many of us are used to shooting in.  Photographers love these times of day planning most of the outdoor shooting at these times.  You can see, from the interior shots we have scattered throughout this post, that interiors bathed in sunlight draw us immediately into a room and keep us lingering.
“The sun was just beginning to set and the beautiful bright color seemed to be contributing to the natural light. She read word by word, until the sun was fully covered with darkness. She placed the book back in its designated spot which she will take tomorrow for another round of reading with the sunlight shining through the window.” – summi02
Photographer Greta Rybus captures the streaming sunlight in this kitchen beautifully.
EAST   WEST   NORTH   SOUTH
The direction the sun comes from gives us different types of light.  Planning how rooms are used, with this in mind, can prevent a gloomy breakfast or a blinding dinner time.  Knowing your home’s light patterns, when planning a renovation, will ensure a successful project.
North facing windows.  These windows tend to have the weakest light intensity and are often in relatively lower light throughout the day.
South facing windows.  Because the sun follows a slightly southern east-to-west arc across the sky, southern windows usually have strong light intensity.
East facing windows.  East windows benefit from the morning sun, when the rays are not quite as strong.
West facing windows.  West windows get the full afternoon and evening sun.
In bedrooms and bathrooms, the days start off right with a soft filtering light.  Studies show we all have a better outlook when we are exposed to sunlight on a regular basis.  Interiors seem to agree.
HOW TO FIND YOUR “HOT” SPOTS
Start looking around your home at all times of the day.  Snap a photo of rooms and spaces as you notice the sun coming in a window or door.  You will see slivers of light, all sizes of shapes and even times when the sun is “moving” as it reflects off something in your home.  Study the photos a few times and we bet you will learn a new appreciation for your home’s decor. You may want to adjust some things to take full advantage of the free amenity we get from all directions.
Don’t fret if you get jumbled up like I do about compass readings.  If you have a canine or feline helper your sunlight spots will be easy to pinpoint!  It will be the spot that needs the vac more often and you wouldn’t have it any other way.  How about we enjoy our homes as much as they do.
