ohhh i was thinking of making a playlist with just current favs so i'll do this and @ you in the post when it's up since it might take a few days, i'm currently in my "building a new listening to playlist" phase bc i'm tired of my old one rip

onewe and oneus aren't in my current music rotation but i do like quite a few of their songs!! i was really into onewe's single "memory: illusion" when it came out, all 3 songs on there *chef's kiss* and i'm going to derail this convo so hard but for some reason the mixing on that single!! it felt so clear (ramblings in read more, tl;dr go see ur fav kbands live if you can!! there is a reason why live band music sounds better bc i feel production aren't doing most of them justice)

idk if you're interested but i came across this the other day (i haven't even watched it yet lol) but someone subbed some parts of the naver now yoon sang's "music to you" kband bassist special cya was on (the other two bassists are lucy's wonsang and cnema's jeongho)

rambling because sometimes i just need to word vomit my thoughts, disclaimer i do not claim to know anything i'm talking about and everything is purely anecdotal

but anyways!! i honestly cannot tell you why i loved the mixing of that single so much, maybe it's mediocre mixing i wouldn't know but i just felt like i could actually HEAR things for once like it was crisp and actually had depth to the songs

usually in kband mixing a lot of the lower range instruments aren't loud enough on the track so you end up hearing a lot of vocals and guitar and some drum taps, every now and then bass but usually only if the song or part was meant to highlight bass....and the worse part of all this is that sometimes even the guitar is muddy which makes the song sound flat because you're missing those lows

like you know i love them and this just proves that "bad" production will never stop me if i like the song but the mixing on most of day6's songs were not very good......

an example (youtube links so the audio will not be top notch due to youtube compression but i think you can tell anyways): sweet chaos official audio vs sweet chaos live

already from the beginning you can tell the deeper sound from dowoon's drums aren't captured at all in the official audio like it's already muddied when that's the highlight of the opening it's literally just him and mtr how can u already mess this up

fast forward to the chorus, you can 100% hear youngk's bass sound better in the live than in the audio where you have to squint with your ears to even try to guess if you're hearing bass or just guitar under their vocals

in the live you can also clearly hear the difference in the two guitars when jae does lead and sungjin does rhythm, while it's all muddied together in the audio like if i'm being real, i can't even hear the lead guitar parts in the audio tbh like where did it go, in the live you can hear all the small tidbits and how he plays along to the melody line under the vocalist at parts in the chorus

same thing with the outro as the intro but this time with the bass, it's really buried and softened under the vocals on the official audio when you can clearly hear it in the live version (and as you should? because it's the only instrument being highlighted here other than vocals and some mtr)

also ftisland, for pure example purposes because from what i remember the mixing is actually great, don't search it up if it makes you uncomfortable knowing that j*nghoon has credits for lyrics and composition of this song (fuck him fr im glad ftisland disowned him publicly) but their song shadows (japanese release) was mixed by Josh Wilber who has led production for multiple metal bands so that audio actually came out GOOD

this song is pretty grungy, especially in the chorus but i felt like nothing got lost on the audio, the two guitars, the bass, the drums, obviously the vocals too it's all there it's like magic asjhfkdsf to me it sounds even more clear than their live albums (yes i know these go through a whole production too so it still will never top being there LIVE and hearing it as they play with your own ears)

ftisland's mixing is hit or miss but i don't mind it i just wanted to talk about that one specific song since it was mixed by someone who actually worked with heavy rock based music

so yea anyways the mixing for kbands can sometimes leave a lot to be desired and it makes me happy when i feel like i can hear more sounds i feel like production is so underrated since we know the lyricists, composers, arrangers but no noise for post production

i'm pretty sure that's why all of them sound infinitely better live like even without all the concert remixes and crowd hype they can be playing the damn song with no changes from the audio and it will sound better just because you can actually hear the instruments in their fullness

so this is a psa to go see ur favorite band playing live if you can!!

obviously mixing/post production applies to all music even if i'm only rambling about bands here asjhksdfds

ok so I kinda went ham with this one??? I got a lot of MTC requests so I think I’m gonna do those in their own special post but... phew these MTR ones started as hc lists and then I got possessed by the writing gods and made drabbles.... long post incoming!!!!

Jakurai [ 神宮寺寂雷 ]: In your previous years, you hadn’t done anything notable for Valentine's Day. It wasn’t that you didn’t have anyone, moreover that you and your partner were always busy. However, this year you made an effort to plan something for you and your boyfriend. Sure, maybe it was a little much, you weren’t school children, but someone had to uphold the chocolate-making tradition, right? You begged your boss to let you have the day before and the day of Valentine’s off. It was a tough battle, but you managed to make it out with two days off under your belt! Jakurai however, wasn’t as lucky. Working in a hospital didn’t permit many days off. You got them when you got them, purely by chance if at all. He, unfortunately, had to work that morning, but you weren’t saddened in the slightest. In fact, you were grateful for his calling duties for it gave you more time to craft your surprise for that evening. You somehow managed to sneakily make chocolates the night before, and even more miraculously hide them in the fridge. You tied your hair up and ran to the kitchen as soon as you heard the door close behind Jakurai and his car pull out of the driveway. He was worried that you would be saddened by the fact that he had to work on Valentine’s, but he truly had no idea what was in store upon his return home. Jakurai picked up a bouquet of flowers on his way home that evening, hoping that even the small gesture would bring a smile to his beloved's face. You grinned as you saw your boyfriend’s car pull into the driveway that evening, checking the living room one last time for any crooked corners. On your way to the door, you dimmed the lights and let the candles take center stage, giggling at your reflection as you checked your hair in the mirror. Your eyes widened as you opened the door and were met by not only your dashing boyfriend but a bouquet of flowers as well. “Jakurai… what is this?” You blushed as he offered you the bouquet and stepped inside. “Well, it’s Valentine's day and you worked hard to get the day off and I had to go in,” He explained as he removed his coat, “I felt that I should at least do something for you,” the doctor leaned in to give you a kiss. “Why are the lights out?” “Oh! Well, it is Valentine’s Day after all!” You said with a wide smile, reaching out and taking Jakurai’s hand, pulling him towards the living room. “I took advantage of you being at work and put something together~” “Y/n… you didn’t have to,” Jakurai’s ears burned red, taking in the scene in front of him. On the living room table, you had prepared and spread out a nice dinner for the two of you, covered in candlelight. A bouquet of roses stood in a crystal vase surrounded by homemade chocolates. You walked over to the mantle and turned on the radio, soft jazz music dancing around the room. “No, I didn’t have to, but I wanted to! You do so much for me, it’s the least I could do,” You returned to your boyfriend’s side, hugging his arm. “Happy Valentine’s Day, baby.” The doctor wrapped his arms around your waist and pulled you in for a kiss, “You make me so happy, y/n. Happy Valentine’s Day, I love you.”

Hifumi [ 伊弉冉一二三 ]: It didn’t take much to make you jealous. Especially with your boyfriend being one of the top hosts in Shinjuku, envy seemed to come… naturally. Hifumi always assured you that he never did anything more than share a few drinks and maybe a kiss on the cheek with any of his patrons, and you believed him, you did, but that didn’t always stop your mind from wandering. The two of you had talked through his work and what that meant for the two of you countless times, what boundaries each of you had and what you were comfortable with. The waters always became testy around Valentine’s Day. Hifumi would come home with bags full of cards, sweets, bottles of alcohol, and some other… strange things the days leading up to Valentine’s. What were you to do for that special day if every woman and man in Shinjuku had already given Hifumi gifts more luxurious than you could fathom? Your boyfriend wasn’t stupid, he could tell something was up. Moreover, Hifumi knew what this was about. He knew dating a host was hard, and it was even harder over the love-focused holiday. So, he decided that for the first time in his host life, he would call in on Valentine’s. Before heading home from his division meeting with Jakurai and Doppo, he stopped by the small jewelry shop he knew you loved. The host had placed an order earlier in the week, the store clerk was in awe that the number one host in Shinjuku would purchase such a piece. Hifumi only blushed and insisted that there was more to his life than being a host, and there was only one exclusive patron of this high rank. The jeweler wished him well as Hifumi exited the shop with a small, velvet box. When he returned home, Hifumi walked around the apartment for you. “Y/n?” He knocked on the bedroom door, pushing it open slowly. He frowned as he saw your sleeping figure huddled up in a cocoon of blankets. “Y/n, kitten, are you awake?” Hifumi placed a hand on your shoulder as he sat on the bed. “I thought you would be at work tonight…” you said, turning around and facing him. He brushed your bangs from your face and leaned down to kiss your forehead. “Well, I was supposed to but, I figured I’ve spent too many Valentine’s Days without you.” “Your boss must be cross with you,” you said as you sat up and leaned your head on his shoulder. “Meh, he can deal with it, I need to spend time with my true Valentine after all!” Hifumi’s voice quickly switched to his normal, joyful tone. “Nee, y/n, can I ask you something?” “Hmm? Sure ‘Fumi, what is it?” “I Uhm, well,” His cheeks blossomed with pink, “Well you see uh, I… You make me so happy and I wanted to get you something to show that… also uhm! I know dating a host can be hard and all so I wanted there to be something you can always have to remind you that you’re the only one for me!” Hifumi smiled brightly, reaching into his pocket for the box. “This isn’t the ideal way I planned to do this, but it was a spontaneous thought, to do it tonight. I was gonna wait and take you somewhere real fancy but…” You had tears in your eyes already, slowly realizing what was happening. “Hifumi, baby, it's ok I… are you?” Hifumi nodded and grabbed your left hand, kissing your knuckles and holding your hand by his face, “Y/n, will you marry me?” “Yes.”

Doppo [ 観音坂独歩 ]: You hummed happily in front of the stove, soft music softly bumping from your phone. It was early morning and you miraculously managed to wake up early, earlier than your boyfriend too. Today was Valentine’s Day, so the only logical solution to your blessed coincidence was to make your special someone breakfast. You were hoping that you could surprise him with the meal in bed but… you didn’t hold your hopes too high. Doppo always got up painfully early to go to work on weekdays, and just because it was the weekend didn’t mean that the routine would be broken. It was a gamble to try and prepare something to surprise him before he woke up. You glanced briefly at your phone to check the timer you had going for the bacon in the oven, smiling as it seemed that you had just about half an hour left before your tired salaryman rolled out of bed. Alas, you spoke too soon as a pair of warm arms found their way around your waist and a chin sitting on your shoulder. Doppo hummed and pressed a kiss to your cheek, “Good morning…” he yawned, not making any apparent moves to let go of your waist. “Ahh, Doppo! I was so close! You should have stayed in bed for another twenty minutes!” You pouted, craning your neck to face him. “Good morning to you too,” you allowed yourself to chuckle. “Someone’s affectionate this morning,” your chuckles turned into giggles as your boyfriend peppered kisses on your neck up to your cheeks. “Rest well?” “Mmhm,” the salaryman hummed in agreement, pausing his storm of kisses to peek over your shoulder. “What’re you making?” You shook your head and smiled, “Well, it was going to be a surprise if someone didn’t get out of bed early!” you clicked your tongue, “I wanted to make you breakfast for Valentine’s Day, surprise you with it if I could… I thought I was doing well with the time too…” Doppo chuckled and kissed the back of your neck, “Hmm, I guess I could go lay down then? Let you finish in here?” “That would be lovely, baby,” you turned around to face him in his embrace and pecked his lips. “It’ll only be about…” you paused to check the time, “ten more minutes! Don’t get too cozy in there, ok?” The man in front of you smiled softly before catching your lips in another kiss. “I’ll try my best, sunshine.” Your cheeks burned red at the pet name, even though you’d been referred to as such many times before. With Doppo now out of the kitchen, you pulled your goodies out of the oven and put a pot of tea on to boil. You continued humming to yourself as you quickly whipped together a batch of pancake mix, spooning the batter in heart shapes in the pan. Once the pancakes were done and you had everything nicely plated, you grinned excitedly as you walked up the stairs to the bedroom, trays in hand. It may not be the ideal surprise you had envisioned, but you were still thrilled. You pushed the door open with your foot and giggled as you approached the bed, noticing that your boyfriend had dozed off. “Pssst, Doppochi, I thought I told you not to get too comfy,” You placed the trays down and poked his cheek. “Mm?” he rubbed the sleep from his eyes, “Oh, sorry…” You laughed, “No, no, it’s ok, you need your rest after all! Look! I made us breakfast~” Doppo smiled wide and kissed your cheek “You make me so happy, you know that?”

Okay this is wildly off topic but I saw that you cook japanese food. Can you recommend some dishes to try or ways to get myself to like it? I want to like Japanese food so bad but I haven't liked anything I've tried aside from super basic stuff like sushi, teriyaki, and gyoza. I've even tried making curry and omurice at home and everyone except me loved it.

Disclaimer: I'm not Japanese or an expert on this. I'm just a cooking nerd who thinks Japan has the best food and experimented a whole bunch with Internet recipes and stuff from the Asian market.

(the latter site does, in fact, contain recipes, but the blogger would encourage you to build the confidence to cook without them)

Since you're having trouble finding dishes you like, I suggest starting with udon: thick, chewy noodles often served in dashi broth, perhaps with fried toppings. You can prepare udon a bunch of different ways, that's just a classic one--but no matter how you make it, udon is a pretty easy sell. Tonkatsu is another dish that's hard to dislike, and makes a good topping for your udon if you want to make both at once!

Fun travel memoir

There is a fantastic book called Pretty Good Number One: An American Family Eats Tokyo.

It's a foodie travel memoir and it's exactly what it sounds like: this guy went to Tokyo for a month with his wife and daughter and they ate a bunch of food, his daughter made friends with half of the entire population of Tokyo, and he wrote about it. He's a really entertaining writer, and it has great descriptions of all kinds of Japanese food, so from there it's easy to go look up recipes.

Shopping

You'll want to go to an actual Asian market if you can find one locally. Use Google, they're often tucked into odd buildings.

Different Asian markets cater to different cultures' cuisines, so there might be one market with a full assortment of Indian MTR spice blends but no kombu or katsuobushi in sight. They usually have a variety though. If you can find an H Mart, you're golden (H Mart is Korean, but will have the stuff you need for Japanese food). Be willing to explore a bit! Last resort, go ahead and use Amazon, but trust me--the Asian markets are cheaper, and I much prefer supporting them to feeding Amazon.

Just One Cookbook also has a list of Japanese pantry essentials, which is really good, but it's also really completionist (I don't even have all of those premade sauces) and stretches the definition of "pantry" a bit, so it seems more intimidating than it should.

Here's my version.

Pantry essentials:

Good soy sauce. Just get something that says "traditionally brewed" and you're fine. If you spot dark soy sauce: it's smokier and less salty, very different, it can't replace normal soy sauce but you might grab it too.

Short grain "sushi" rice. Try not to overpay for it. If you're in an Asian market you're fine. If you're in the fancy organic section of Hy-Vee, you're gonna get ripped off.

Mirin. A seasoned cooking wine. Unfortunately, bad mirin is easy to find and is loaded with corn syrup. Try to find some that isn't; remember, ingredients are listed on the bottle proportionally. It's very worth paying $10 for a good bottle of mirin. I don't *think* you have to be 21 to buy it? Drinking it would probably be unappealing. Mirin is very important, and it's a versatile cooking ingredient; once you know what it does you might find yourself putting it in everything.

Sake. You do have to be of legal drinking age to buy this. Which kind you get for cooking isn't a super big deal, and you can get by with just mirin most of the time.

Kombu and katsuobushi. The former is a kind of seaweed/kelp (it may look dusty with white powder; that's natural MSG and it's a good thing). The latter is shaved dried smoked skipjack tuna and looks a bit like pencil shavings; you might see them labeled "bonito flakes." They're common ingredients for dashi (basic Japanese cooking stock), but you'll see katsuobushi used as a topping on lots of savory dishes. If you can't find these, try looking for dashi powder or tea bag type dealies.

Toasted sesame oil. Not hard to find.

Rice vinegar. Same.

Panko bread crumbs. These are special, lofty, crispy breadcrumbs. They're different because of SCIENCE and are what happens when you electrocute bread dough. I'm not joking.

Cornstarch/potato starch. I slightly prefer potato starch (good texture), but they're not that different.

Nori. These are those pressed algae sheets you use to wrap sushi, but they're used for other stuff too, like onigiri, or shredded as a topping.

Noodles. Obviously, if you want to make udon, you need to buy some. You can easily find dried udon, but if you spot frozen or even fresh udon noodle packs, grab them.

If you can find an Asian market that stocks all this, you should be able to get the whole list for around $50. Asian markets tend not to be expensive, which is yet another good reason to learn to cook Japanese food. (Other reasons: healthy, tasty, easy to cook in a small kitchen...)

Of course, you also don't need to get the whole list at once! It's not cheating to just get what you need for a particular dish.

Fun stuff you can find at Asian markets

With the basics out of the way, here are additional tasty things you might want to look for:

Furikake. Not strictly necessary, but I like it. It's a topping/seasoning blend you can mix into your rice, and it comes in lots of flavors, some fishier than others. Start with a nori or vegetable flavor if you're uncertain. Tamago flavor = egg.

Ramune. If you've never had marble soda before, don't deny yourself the adventure of trying to figure out how to get the bottle open. Lots of flavors.

Good instant ramen. Nongshim's Shin Ramyun is what I usually get, and even Walmart sells it. You'll never buy Maruchan again.

Candy. So, I don't know who's in charge of Japanese fruit flavored candy, but it actually tastes like fruit, which is wild.

Yuzu and/or sudachi juice. If you can find these, grab 'em. They're citrus juices. Yuzu is a bit like lemon but less strongly sour and more... clean? Crisp? while sudachi is a bit like lime but more green and complex. I'm describing these poorly. You might also be able to find candy or drinks with these flavors.

Sugary drinks with nata de coco in them. Nata de coco is a firm jelly-like dessert type... thing. It's made from coconuts and it's got a unique jelly/crunchy texture and is odd but good. You might be able to find nata de coco on its own, but I'll warn you: the kind you get packed in jars will be Very Sugary.

Tapioca pearls. If you like bubble tea, here's the place to get your boba.

Umeboshi plums. These sour/salty pickled plums are a tasty ramen topping.

Ice cream. Those square melon popsicles are delicious, but get them home quickly, their texture is very temperature sensitive! And if you spot individually wrapped ice cream cones, grab one.

Euro cakes. These look kinda like round Twinkies, but Twinkies only dream of being this tasty. I like the pandan flavor best. Don't be put off by the green color.

Soft tofu. So good 🥰 and weirdly hard to find in supermarkets. It's got a texture like custard, and apart from its fairly neutral, fresh flavor, will easily pick up any flavors you put on it. An excellent addition to udon soup; add it last, the tofu is fragile (and doesn't actually require cooking). Silken tofu sometimes comes in shelf stable packages. My experience with those has been fine, but the general consensus is that the tofu you get from the fridge section is better.

Frozen pork buns. They might be labeled "siopao" or "bao" (Chinese names) or "nikuman" (Japanese name). Lil bread buns with bbq pork or other fillings. You steam them in the microwave and they're delicious.

I'd recommend having fun getting a few of the things off this list, rather than being a completionist about the first one, if you find yourself choosing between the two. That said, make sure you get the stuff you need for the thing you want to make!

Okay, now I want a pork bun. I wonder if my brother's eaten them all yet...

speaking of samatoki-sama, hypmic division study guide ver. mtc was today!!!!!!! idk what the seiyuu were on but asanuma-san was in top form today cracking awful jokes and making sure the show had stupid high energy, kamio-san decided he wanted to be just as chaotic (an enabler lol) and poor komada-san had to deal with these two goons lol. the character chart segment was pretty wild too:

instead of drawing the character trait gachapod pods one by one like the others, asanuma did it by 2-2-1 for whatever reason (i wouldn’t be surprised if it was because of time constraints lmao) and his fellow members did the same

asanuma-san pulled sexiness, started by saying, ‘well, when it comes to sexiness, you think of rio, or more specifically, his voice right??’ gave samatoki a 3.5 on sexiness based on that alone and i’m not pictured here, but pls imagine me and all of the other mtc stans simultaneously screaming, ‘NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!’ at their screens lmao

and in another heartbreaking moment, asanuma-san brought up samatoki’s coffee making skills in regards to his cooking prowess but kamio-san said that doesn’t necessarily mean he’s good at cooking and then asanuma-san followed up with his distaste for carrots, peppers and the like meant that he’d have a hard time cooking and gave him a whooping 2.5

samatoki has only been seen being chauffeured around places so it’s very clear samatoki can’t drive, asanuma-san admits this. and then proceeds to pull this godawful joke out of his ass: ‘samatoki is the driving force of the katengumi’ and gave him a 4 lmfao

samatoki doesn’t wear glasses. however!!!!!!!! asanuma-san wears shades during lives!!!! and!!!!!!!!!!!!! hypmic had the glasses collab!!!!!!!! 1.5 for wears glasses lol

asanuma-san drew a skull inside his chart since it kinda looked like samatoki’s speakers!!!!!!!! i did my best to recreate it lol

poor komada-san just had garbage luck lmao he pulled ‘strange ingredients’ and ‘macho’ for his first pull and unfortunately got nothing better lol

‘’very violent’ was clearly a samatoki trait but all three seiyuu agreed it’s not like juto doesn’t have his moments lol

at the end tho, komada-san’s chart for juto matched the shape of the necklace he was wearing for the show so it turned out to be a silver lining lol

kamio-san with his stupid maxed out luck skill showed up and showed off like usual lol

rio is an airhead because he just can’t tell samajuto don’t vibe with his cooking lmao

rio’s big bro vibes comes from how he likes to share his homemade food and drinks with others when they’re hungry and/or not feeling well and the program used the comic panels from fp/mtr manga where he was sharing his medicinal drink with doppo

Utena is so chill I love it. Earlier scenario liar would have been higher but i grew tired of it and instead drops grew on me so I switched them... Pink colored love is terrifying to me. I don't have any particular feelings on dices solos tbh. I like playing them in arb but that´s it.

Day 19 Bonus: Buster Bros!!! vs Dotsutaire Honpo

I’m gonna start with the music this time because just writing like one of the story/character bit...was taking a while. So in terms of music...I have to give it over to the Buster Bros. With their individual albums, it just got so much better for the Buster Bros as they’re becoming more distinct with their personality in their sound. Like Break the Wall is one of my top solos and y’all just unfortunate that Saburo used like one of the classical pieces I thought fucking slapped even before he messed with it. And I’m so happy for them.

DH has a bit of a disadvantage of being a new group and thus having less to compare. But so far....eh. I think DH is very hit or miss for me. Like Matenrou, they have such differing talents and subject matters that it either turns into a strange symphony or some mishmash that just makes it eh. Which is generally my feeling with their group songs as I really love Ah, Osaka Dreaming Night but I am not impressed with Wara Osaka. And I am okay with their solo songs but to be fair to them, a lot of the songs I prefer for the already established group was their second solo, not the first, which is their introductory ones.

As for Joy for Struggle, yeah, Buster Bros took that for me. DH I get is supposed to be more carefree than a lot of the other teams that are a bit more serious but I think that attitude really bit them in the ass for this battle. And BB did not have time to be playing around. I thought Saburo had more confidence this time and let that truly nasty attitude leave some spikes behind. Saburo really was like ‘How many times we gotta teach you this lesson, old man?!’ Jiro actually had some good retorts! I’m so sorry, I love him I swear but he had so much to grow in terms of coming with bite and it’s starting to show! The chihuahua vs tiger comparison! And while I do appreciate that Rosho and Sasara stay true in their manzai act...it really just didn’t land for me in the battle and Jiro and Saburo were quick to gnaw at it.

And then...there’s the verse against Ichiro. I won’t say they stick with me as well as War War War but quite frankly Ichiro vs Sasara and later Rei are more of a battle of ideals. And to me, Ichiro poured more into his than those two. Because Rei’s were just belittling the boys because they’re younger and like they went down some wrong path. Both Saburo and Ichiro weren’t having any of that. Like who the fuck are you to step in and tell us off? At least MTC were more of like ‘come back when you’re more polished.’ And with Sasara, I think Ichiro delivered the line that is my entire thing with this battle: ‘Floaty words like that won’t sting us at all.’ I feel like DH lacked enough bite against BB and it shows. The only real bite back is from Rei and even he doesn’t seem to have that much that actually phased BB in my opinion.

In terms of story/character wise...it’s really hard to make a decision. Because for all the teams, it’s really a matter of the dynamics against the others. And DH have it so stacked for them just because of Rei. Sure, I may not like him but he is very interesting in terms of being a vehicle for developments to happen. He seems to know a lot of things and people so he becomes such a presence that could tempt so many things into happening. Like if it was DH vs FP, he knows the fuck about Ramuda! He fucking made him! And I have little doubt it was him on the phone with Ramuda in Catch Us If You Can drama track. And at the end of the previous DRB...at least what sticks out in my mind and I may have to double check but I think he mentioned some interest in Ramuda after telling about how the true hypnosis mic being used would’ve shot Chuuoku in the foot. Also added to that, Rei likely knows Gentaro. For what reason? We don’t quite know but it can be assumed it’s because he’s doing something for Gentaro. Either looking into Ramuda since the ‘legal’ way wasn’t reaping anything or if Gentaro is hiding something, then Rei might be helping him hide it. Also also, Rei is one of the few rappers that know who Dice is! He and Otome were talking about their kids! That’s HUGE since Dice hasn’t told anyone about this aspect of his life. Rei alone would make such a juggernaut for FP.

I honestly can’t think of anything for DH vs BAT, sorry. They don’t seem to have any history besides Kuko and Sasara both being in MCD for a time...but I don’t recall that time really being elaborated on soooooo yeah.

If it were DH vs MTC, that’s more of a dynamic between Sasara and Samatoki. Which I think would be the time to figure things out between them. Because Samatoki was left with why and never got an answer. And seeing him again, Sasara can’t run away. He can try but pretty sure that Samatoki could outrun him. It also would be a time of like Sasara’s dynamic between the two men that have been his partners, Samatoki and Rosho. The people that were close to Sasara and whom he feels the most towards. I honestly can’t think of much else besides that but I’m sure KR will find a way to have the guys piss each other off. I’m just here for SamaSasa and SasaRo shenanigans. (I guess we could see if Rio does know Rei since in theory he SHOULD know who he is since it sounds like the hypmic was in development when Rio was serving and he tested some aspect of it).

I think DH vs MTR would be kinda funny. Like for some reason I think that Sasara and Rosho would get really fucking mad at how Hifumi and Doppo just naturally have that manzai energy by virtue of being best friends and roommates. I have personal experience of people being like ‘this IS a show’ of just watching and listening to me and my best friend and roommate just going back and forth. I feel like it’d just be so damn funny if it was over something not as serious I guess? But then that’d all be ruined because I feel like Rei would either expose to Hifumi and Doppo of Jakurai’s cooperation with Chuuoku, which while they don’t have any personal reason to really hate Chuuoku, wouldn’t feel comfortable with it either. Or. OR, my god, let him expose Jakurai’s assassin past, something he seems to feel nothing but shame for and also ruining his perfect image. Because Rei just seems like he’d be willing to do that.

So yeah, a lot of drama that could happen because of frickin’ Rei and some loose ends to deal with from Sasara. By comparison, BB has some things but they wouldn’t be as dire as DH’s. Like with BB vs BAT, this could be the chance for Ichiro to get his answers from Kuko. He never got an answer either. He was left with heartbreak and never given the why. And Kuko either has rationalized or will be in for a rude awakening having to go head on with Ichiro. Because they were close. Kuko had to care about Ichiro in some capacity to willingly help some group he knew was sketch and didn’t like. Why did that change? He had to have meditated on this at some point! Meanwhile, I really hope that Jiro and Jyushi and Kuko can get along if the reconciliation with Ichiro doesn’t happen! They’d be such an eclectic group but would be so much trouble too! (And please let Jiro and Jyushi play together. Ever since someone wrote about it, it lives in my head rent free) I really am hoping for it. All the while, Hitoya is like ‘shit, now I gotta adopt MORE kids. Why are there so many of these little shits running around without supervision???’

I can’t think of much for BB vs FP since I just don’t see their circles running that close and it just didn’t feel like Ichiro was close to Ramuda even back with TDD. Most I can think of is Jiro, who is also pretty thoughtless, saying the wrong thing to Gentaro and it’s The Rivalry 2.0. But overall can’t think of anything too specific.

It’d hurt me if it was BB vs MTR. Because for some reason I see that most of MTR treat the BB like their little siblings and in Jakurai’s case, it’s like going to go fight his kids (I will go down on the hill of occasional dadkurai shenanigans!). And while Saburo and Jiro have and still do make fun of Doppo, I think he also has their respect because he looks out for them in a different way but still same energy as Ichiro does. Probably because he is an older brother. I don’t really think any of the guys can say anything to bother Hifumi and it’s more of Hifumi being fucking thoughtless and saying the wrong thing. I feel like he’d piss off Saburo somehow. And with Jakurai and Ichiro...it’s a ‘nothing personal, just business’ although I think Jakurai would be proud of Ichiro either way.

And then there’s just rematch energy if it’s BB vs MTC. Honestly? The real thing I would love to see from if this happened is for Jiro and Saburo to have a reevaluation of MTC. Because the main reason they were so aggressive and hostile towards them is because of Ichiro’s grudge with Samatoki. They just took it as ‘if they’re Ichi-nii’s enemy, they’re our enemy.’ But since they’re taking this step of coming on their own, they also need to think about if they can still dislike these guys because Ichiro’s beef isn’t theirs. I mean, Jiro probably still doesn’t like Jyuto because he’s a delinquent and fuck cops y’know sorta rebelliousness. And I don’t think Saburo particularly dislikes Rio and vice versa. The thing with Ichiro and Samatoki is honestly secondary to this. And I feel would be the time for Samatoki to let go since he KNOWS now that it wasn’t Ichiro that got Nemu to leave but Ramuda but it’s a matter of if his pride would allow him. And Ichiro would have to realize that while he lost their fight...he won in the end since he’s the one that kept his brothers while Samatoki lost Nemu. He’s gotta feel for him and understand why Samatoki was/is mad at him. (Also long shot but if they could talk about how Samatoki also exacerbated his hesitance to trust others, that’d be greeeeaaattttt).

So yeah, I’ve thought about how these dynamics and things and you’d think weighing them all would make this choice easy. And it is. In a way. Because for me, I’d choose Buster Bros. I do like Sasara a lot and Rosho I think is fine but their third really sours for me. I know some can keep that bias aside and look, I did talk about what all he can do...but he alone can’t carry the sound for the team. Story, sure, but not the music. While I really would like some of the threads that Rei brings...it’s not completely impossible for him to still be around if any of the other teams do advance. I mean, they’re all the only men stuck in Chuuoku for the time of the DRB and having to pass each other while going to their own rooms or box seating. He has ways. So yeah, if I had voted on DH vs BB, this is what I would’ve gone with.

Cyberpunk!HypMic

This is an extension of the cyberpunk outfits from this AU.

Originally, these outfits did not have their own universe to exist in - they were just made to fit a theme - but it just so happens HypMic already has a lot of the components required for cyberpunk...(but yikes, this is the densest AU - in terms of worldbuilding - I've had yet...)

TDD, MCD, Kuujaku Posse and NB existed in the past, but not in the context of the DRB - they were just groups of unlikely friends with differing reputations that retroactively came to be known under popular monikers and they ended up accepting those names over time. After WW3 and Chuohku's take over, technology rapidly advanced but society as a whole was wrecked.

As a reminder, the base outfit in this world is a silver body suit which only exposes the head, hands and feet, with black combat boots and a black belt.

In this world, this outfit is typically issued by Chuohku via people like Ramuda, although as you can tell by the outfits given in the magical boy AU, what you put on top of the base outfit can vary wildly. The boots and the belt can be swapped with something else without any trouble - the only thing that can get you into trouble with the authorities is ditching the suit. The body suit is able to purify polluted air within a short distance of itself, but only for the user.

All suit users have an accent colour, typically found on places like the top edge of the boots and on buttons, and the accents glow faintly in the dark. The colours have been adjusted slightly from the magical boy AU to create better glow effects.

...For the outfits that aren't specified, known from the magical boy AU or the same as canon in cases where the character does not rely on the suit, I'll leave them to your imagination, dear readers.

BB:

A team of brothers and odd jobs workers who navigate the digital and the real world to help those in need.

Ichiro: The owner of Odd Jobs Yamada. Prone to poking around with the latest in virtual reality, as well as illegal or semi-legal cybernetics. Resents Samatoki because he interferes with the Yamadas' business often enough to be a nuisance. Accent colour: Bright red.

Jiro: A delinquent and the more physical member of Odd Jobs Yamada (i.e. instead of trying to shut down bad guys using digital trickery, he's more likely to punch them instead). Was going to high school before circumstances shut schools down. Accent colour: Bright (royal) blue.

Saburo: A genius hacker. Was going to middle school before circumstances shut schools down. Accent colour: Bright yellow.

MTC:

An ad hoc crew who, in this world, have much weaker relationships than they do in canon.

Samatoki: A yakuza second-in-command, currently in possession of a strange black cybernetic glove which covers his right arm from the hand up to the elbow. The glove is able to control the air purification feature of the suits, so it's a particularly nasty bit of contraband. Resents Ichiro because Ichiro made a prototype of the glove and that was the last chance Samatoki had of convincing Nemu not to join Chuohku, but she joined them anyway. Also came into possession of an humanoid mecha, via Riou, which became the base of the new Yotsutsuji. Wears his TDD jacket over his shoulders. Accent colour: Indigo.

(Nemu: Currently with Chuohku to improve the world from within the government. Sent the completed glove to her brother because she knew he would keep it safe. Accent colour: Magenta (aka "Chuohku pink").)

Jyuto: A corrupt cop, currently investigating the glove in Samatoki's possession. More overworked than his canon counterpart...Even his trademark glasses have been digitised - they have a small antenna on the left side and can display information on the lenses when Jyuto gives them a mental signal (the display is in his accent colour). Accent colour: Maroon.

Riou: A former navyman who lives in nature, despite it being irreparably wrecked, and would rather not deal with the digital world, considering he's a cyborg (this is how he gets around not having the suit - he was experimented on in Chuohku's pursuit of creating a new supersoldier). Gave Samatoki an ancient industrial military-grade humanoid mecha which is about as tall as he (Samatoki) is.

FP:

Gentaro doesn't know Ramuda and Dice in this world.

Ramuda: A fashion designer who hands out government-mandated suits (for a small fee) while trying to ask out as many ladies as possible. Also sells other items to go with the suits, as would be expected of a typical fashion designer. His allegiance to Chuohku is a lot clearer in this world, but he's not a clone in this - just a normal human with hair dyed pink. Accent colour: Light orange (as per the magical boy AU).

Gentaro: A writer who makes his stories "real" via virtual reality and partnerships with others, such as Odd Jobs Yamada. Has material in some of his stories which he can use to blackmail Chuohku with. Hides his suit under traditional Japanese clothes. Accent colour: Bright purple.

Dice: Officially, he's a gambler who gambles with digital money and can't afford the suit. (Ramuda is not only something like a debt collector to him, he's also Dice's minder and enabler of sorts.) Unofficially, he's the son of Otome, the leader of Chuohku, who, when he was disowned by his family, lost access to the suits. As a result, he occasionally struggles to breathe and has to be helped by someone every so often. (Maybe if Hitoya or Jakurai met him in this world, Dice would be properly saved...?)

MTR:

Jakurai: A doctor, albeit one who prefers to use old-fashioned (that's "modern" to us) methods where possible. Chuohku believes gathering data from his brainwaves is necessary for the progress of developing new medical technology (or so they say...), so he wears a strange device which loops around the back half of his head and sits over his hair, attached to his head by two round (glowing) suction cups just above his ears. Wears his doctor's coat over the suit. Acts as Doppo and Hifumi's therapist and/or meditates in his spare time. Accent colour: Cyan.

Yotsutsuji: Currently in a coma after Chuohku's experiments for new supersoldiers. With the help of the former TDD, Jakurai has placed what could be salvaged of Yotsutsuji's consciousness into a humanoid mecha.

Hifumi: The no. 1 host of Fragrance. Uses virtual reality, projection mapping and other technologies to create entertainment for his clients. Afraid of women, but rather than his jacket, in this world he uses the same technology that aids him in his work to escape them. Accent colour: Neon green.

Doppo: A salaryman with appallingly low pay, no matter how hard he works, due to the fact technology is advanced enough in this world to give him a run for his money...He's lucky he has Jakurai and Hifumi to keep him sane... Accent colour: Teal.

DH:

Rei knows about Sasara and Rosho in this world, but they don't know about him.

Sasara: A comedian, currently under the heel of Chuohku. To this end, there are only certain kinds of jokes he's allowed to say while performing in public, although Sasara tries to get around this as much as he can when he can and secretly wishes to tear down the system with the former TDD + MCD so he can say what he likes again. Remotely communicates with Rosho via a visor and wears a leather jacket similar to Samatoki's TDD jacket in memory of MCD. Accent colour: Bright pink (as per the magical boy AU).

Rosho: A teacher, who lost his job when the school system broke down. He relies on Sasara to provide his basic necessities, but also takes occasional jobs to teach children in small groups or one-on-one, even teaching them comedy skills if he deems it necessary for them to survive in this wartorn world. Remotely communicates with Sasara via a display built into his glasses (which he otherwise wears purely for cosmetic reasons). Accent colour: Purple.

Rei: The creator of various technologies and creations prior to the war, most notably the ubiquitous suits. Currently gathering Jakurai's brainwave data for his own purposes. Has a strange relationship with the upper management of Chuohku, particularly Otome. Instead of sunglasses, he wears a (purely cosmetic) sniper's monocle over his left eye. Accent colour: Orange.

BAT:

Kuko: Back to being a delinquent, after people stopped believing in religion in exchange for technology. However, he still holds on to his beliefs, with the idea that one day, he can bring Buddhism back to a world that needs something to believe in. To this end, he uses virtual reality to recreate the pre-war world as he remembers it. Wears a teal happi coat over his suit and his prayer beads dangle out of his pocket. Accent colour: Mint green. Also known to commonly ditch the government-mandated suit for a particular respirator system created by Hitoya, which has a mess of wires going from the back of his head and going to either his neck or his shoulders (it looks similar to how the robot from the cover art of In My Mind's Axwell Mix has it) - this is due to the fact it looks intimidating and cool, yet it can be a pain to move around with at times.

Jyushi: A visual kei musician who enhances his shows with virtual reality, projection mapping and so on. People get confused when they involve Amanda "coming to life", but they roll with it anyway. Accent colour: Gold (essentially, a darker yellow than Saburo's).

Hitoya: A former lawyer, whose services are no longer needed now that the rules of society the law should operate in do not apply. This freed up his time to pursue his own interests, including creating portable respirator technology which Kuko and Jyushi try out for him (he does this with some help from some connections in the medical field, including Jakurai).

// OKAY SO IM HAVING AN ACTUAL MELTDOWN OVER THIS SO. UNDER THE CUT HERE’S SOME CANON UPDATES FOR HIFUMI SPOILERS FOR THE NEW MTR / FP + CHAPTER ( BIG CONTENT WARNING FOR ABUSE TRAUMA + WORKPLACE ABUSE + SEVERE PANIC ATTACKS )

Okay so. I’m going to try and be as calm as possible with his, but a lot of my headcanons were confirmed.

The first big thing is that my long standing head canon that Hifumi suffers from night terrors relating to his abuse and his abuser were, in fact, confirmed as canon.

Hifumi, at 22, has also worked several jobs and wound up getting fired from all of them due to his gynophobia.

Apparently - Hifumi got his idea about becoming a different person with his suit on from...Doppo! Doppo makes a comment that he got hired to a new job and feels like a brand new person when he puts his suit on, though Hifumi complains that he’s not a child, he can’t do something like that.

Or more accurately...Doppo has Hifumi watch Superman ( which is...canon in HypMic? ) In watching Superman, this line happens. “ "If you put on the suit, anyone can be Superman!" Hifumi says he makes it look easy. ”

A BIG THING FOR HIM IS the words “I’m only on your side” is apparently a trigger phrase for him - something his abuser told him, and something that sends him into hysterics. I will use this from here on out if a character ever says this, or something similar, to him. Additionally, when he’s not wearing his jacket, a woman smiling at him is also a massive trigger.

It’s also noted that Hifumi hyperventilates when he has a panic attack and something that broke my heart was that the woman that triggered him called him disgusting for his behaviors and just walked away.

He didn’t actually start working at Fragrance at 20 - it seems he started working for them at 22 years old instead.

Hifumi also worked at the company Doppo worked at for a little while, since he was having a hard time keeping a job and Doppo recommended him for an open position! He managed to keep the position for a few months, since he didn’t have to interact with any women in the department, but after those few months a woman tries to speak with him, and he has a panic attack at work.

Doppo helps him and explains to the woman why Hifumi is having a panic attack, and she’s actually polite about it and apologies - but Hifumi says she doesn’t need to apologize because he’s the one with the problem, not her.

Things seem like they can work out for him! The women in the department try to adjust to keep Hifumi comfortable and start going through other male employees if they need something from him.

But...his boss has a problem with it and starts berating Hifumi in his office and trying to figure out why he has a phobia of women and what traumatized him. He calls Hifumi trash - “which makes sense because he’s friends with Doppo” - and Hifumi agrees that yeah, he’s trash, but how DARE he talk about Doppo that way.

He threatens to fire Hifumi and physically pushes him - but then tells him he’s required to come drinking with the department tonight, as there’s a work party. And it turns out, that drinking party turns into them going to a hostess bar. Their boss is purposefully trying to put Hifumi in a triggering environment. While Doppo tries to stand up for him, Hifumi ends up going after their boss threatens to fire Doppo.

This is where things get...hard, so if you’re triggered by someone being triggered, severe panic attacks, people mocking those things, and someone trying to traumatize someone further - please stop reading here.

In the hostess bar, Hifumi gets isolated from his coworkers and sat between two women. He begins hyperventilating and Doppo tries to go in and save him, but their boss announces to the ENTIRE CLUB that Hifumi has a phobia of women. He’s forced to sit in silence as everyone laughs at him.

One of the women says "Really? But you're so handsome. What a shame!" and Hifumi screams and begins to retreat into himself. His boss grabs the back of the head of the woman that asked him that and forces her closer to Hifumi, like he’s trying to force them to kiss. The sight of the woman’s mouth causes Hifumi to cover his own, like he’s about to vomit, and he manages to stand up and sprint into the club’s restroom.

Everyone except his boss, who’s laughing, has the decency to look concerned, and Doppo actually trails after Hifumi, who’s vomiting into one of the bathroom sinks. He goes back to their boss, who asks Doppo if he’s going to take Hifumi’s punishment of being fired...

AND DOPPO PUNCHES THEIR BOSS SO HARD HE KNOCKS HIM OUT OF HIS SEAT.

Doppo then says “He's working his ass off to overcome this, and then you have the god damn nerve to laugh at him! You think I'd ever work for anyone like you, you son of a bitch? No! I quit!” and he grabs Hifumi, both of them leaving the club.

Hifumi apologizes to Doppo as the leave, for costing him a job he was so excited about, but Doppo reassures him that they’re best friends - he’s not going to work for someone like that.

Hifumi vows he’s going to change for Doppo’s sake, and puts on his suit for the first time. He’s not someone who uses orecchi, but someone who uses boku. Not someone who’s afraid of women, but will give them the most exciting time of their life, just for one night.

Doppo is panicking over the loss of his job, being unable to afford rent, and Hifumi just started working at a host club with this new personality of his - so they decide to be roommates. They both vow to become the top in their field, so they can take care of each other financially so the other never has to worry again.

HypMic 3rd Western Poll May 2020

Thank you for your participation! These are the final results for the 3rd HypMic unofficial Western fandom poll. After a month of work on this, we’ve got some estimates for general fandom opinions. Do you agree with the general opinions, or disagree? Let us know!

Please click the read more to view our results!

The sample size was limited to 1000 votes, giving a rough indication of the demographic of consumers outside of Japan as well as opinions. The word ‘Western’ has been used, but we have opened this poll to those who were able to read enough English to understand this poll. As such, it is considerably Euro/American-centric.

This poll received the most activity through Twitter, given that the series is most active on that platform. The poll was also posted on Tumblr, Facebook and the HypMic wiki. Commentary has been given on sections of the poll.

THE CONSUMPTION OF HYPMIC

This section is to be read as ‘What percentage of HypMic English fans have consumed x media?’ The drama tracks and songs have been split by album. Manga bonuses have not been included in the first two questions as at the time of this poll the 2nd Manga songs/dramas were being released so it would be unfair to add them to the poll.

BAT and DH order is written as such due to later stats in the poll where Doppo and Sasara were next to each other but their official colours were too similar so I used the order in Division All Stars songs rather than release order.

Pre-Season: Referring to the start of a battle season.

Shibuya Division: Fling Posse Drama Tracks and The Loneliness, Tears, and Hope of a Puppet are the most listened to drama tracks of their respective pre-season. Both belong to Fling Posse.

The debut drama tracks of Dotsuitare Honpo (Back Again, Partner) and Bad Ass Temple (The Heart’s Conviction Can’t Be Broken) were listened to less than the other debut drama tracks.

Yokohama Division: MAD TRIGGER CREW Drama Tracks and Chaser from the Past (Matenrou: Before the 2nd DRB) were the least listened to dramatracks of their respective phases of the pre-seasons.

The Champion album has the least listened to drama tracks (Testimony and Me Against the World).

In all cases, the songs have all been listened to more than the respective drama tracks for their album.

The 1st Manga Bonus songs have not been listened as much as the other songs.

This can be due to the fact that these songs cannot be accessed for free legally.

The most listened to songs are the Division All Stars songs with the full cast.

This can be due to the fact that these are the only songs that are available in their entirety on YouTube.

Fling Posse has the most listened to songs of both pre-seasons.

Buster Bros!!! has the least listened to songs of the 1st pre-season and Matenrou has the least listened to songs of the 2nd pre-season.

The Hypnosis Mic -Division Rap Battle- side D.H & B.A.T manga was released as the poll was being conducted, so was not included in this poll.

By the numbers given for listening to the Spotify radio show, Hypnosis Radio, 80.4% of this sample size has listened to the radio - 19.6% have not listened to Hypnosis Radio.

Around half of the fandom has bought merch - this poll has included plushies, magazines etc. and all from official sources.

DEMOGRAPHICS

Due to the limitations of Google sheets, Africa does not show up on the chart for location as the voter percentage is too small.

The age ranges used are of a similar range to those of Japanese polls. [ARB’s recent survey and the age demographics of Comic ZERO-SUM, publisher of the FP/M manga]

93.5% of voters use translations regardless of Japanese comprehension.

The option for ‘I bought multiple CDs’ refers to both different CDs and multiple of the same CD during the battle season.

Of those who were around for the Battle Season, 15.66% of this group did purchase a battle CD.

1.2% of votes had a minor character as one of their favourite characters (Ichijiku, Nemu and Yotsutsuji - No other minor characters were suggested).

These polls vary in selection method as our polls looked at the top 3 votes of each character.

From Japan’s method has been stated as a poll but we were unable to find the original. Rio and Jiro’s reason for being unranked is unknown.

The Yumejoshi poll was done by people suggesting their favourite characters for rankings, meaning that it was not entirely based upon HypMic. What is shown here are those who ranked. The ranking in their picking of a 100 is listed against them.

These three polls have varying demographics. From Japan’s spread seems to be more broad, while the Yumejoshi poll is specifically yumejoshi/female. Our polls were taken only for English speakers. In addition to this, there is some bias based on who the poll was spread through followers.

For example, the poll was created by a Gentaro stan and main supporters of this poll are Dotsuitare Honpo stans.

Doppo dominates the polls in both English-speaking and the Japanese fandom.

For our final question, we asked “What are your hopes for this battle season? Any plot points, theories etc. that you want to mention.” This question was not required, but we received around 300 answers to this. We condensed the material into basic categories so you don’t have to sort through all 300.

ANYWAYS for the milkweed seedlings I have 49 (I used one for the baby crabapples) gallon pots, and I’m going to fill them 90% of the way with dead leaves, and then soil on top, and then the seeds go very lightly into the soil, then they get covered with a thin layer of leaves. It’s gonna be probably three seeds to a pot, but I might just make it six, two in each space, since they might not all grow, and then people can get two plants to start out with.

Once they start to germinate and are big enough to move, they’ll be put into brown paper bags (again filled with leaves and soil) and given away for free, so that all people have to do is dig a hole and bury the whole thing, and I get to keep all my pots!

Yeah definitely gonna do 3 sets of 2 per pot. I already have ridiculous amounts of seeds and I haven’t even harvested MTR yet.

Also did I mention when the milkweed stalks dry I’m going to try to turn them into rope??? that’s a thing you can do apparently!!!

Ocean Park | Hong Kong's Largest Theme Park

Ocean Park is Hong Kong's largest theme park. In fact, it is Hong Kong's only theme park. With its 35 attractions and rides, the park has won several awards, including "The World's Seventh Most Popular Amusement Park" and "33rd Most Visited Tourist Attraction in the World". These are not statistics that I would necessarily brag about, but maybe that's just me.

Ocean Park is a 10 minute taxi ride away from our home, and Sadie has been at least a dozen times with her friends. In fact, her school did a trip there earlier this year and attempted to sell it to the parents as a physics lesson. Right.

I am reasonably informed that watching a teacher get spun around until they puke is the height of entertainment for a teenager. Anyway, I had never been before. I'm not sure why this is, but I guess that it is partly to do with David's lack of interest. I guess I can understand that. Any roller coaster becomes Space Mountain when you are blind, and although I love Space Mountain, I'm not sure that I'd want to spend the whole day riding on it. David is in the UK though, and I thought it might be a fun thing for Sadie and me to do.

This is the latest in a long string of my attempts at mother/daughter bonding. I try to kid myself that Sadie and I really have a close personal connection, that she loves and respects me as much as I do her, and that she actually enjoys my company when in reality what I perceive as bonding is probably just Sadie playing along to get something she wants. Regardless, if that's all I can get, I'll take it.

So, off we went to Ocean Park. I had to queue up for the ticket as Sadie already had a season pass that paid for itself if the first month. The price was comparable to other them parks - about £20 for the day. Now it is time for me to fess up about the real reason I wanted to go to Ocean Park. It has two different sections, one of which has animals, an aquarium and kiddie rides and the other which has thrill rides. The animal section has PANDAS! For a long time, seeing pandas has been on my list of 100 things to do before I die* and I was finally getting to do it!

I am marginally embarrassed by my passion for pandas. I have seen Kung Fu Panda three times and that is really not something of which to be proud. I am completely suckered in by their furry, fat cuddliness and those big black circles around their sad eyes. To be fair, I was also completely suckered in by Pete, the dog from the Little Rascals too. Something about a black circle around an eye. I like to think of myself as mature, urbane, sophisticated, cool and more than a little cynical. Loving cuddly panda bears blows that image. It's like Henry Kissinger saying he loves "My Little Pony". I guess I am out of the closet now.

Anyway, back to Ocean Park. I decided to prolong the expectation for as long as possible, so we visited the aquarium first. It is a pretty good aquarium as these things go - maybe even in the top 50 aquariums in the world.

I couldn't really contain my excitement much longer though. I had to see the bears. I spotted the Panda House from several hundred metres away. I knew it was the panda house because there were 10 metre tall plastic pandas waving to us from the roof. For one brief moment, I actually thought that they were real and waving just at me. We walked up the ramps and into the house. There are three panda enclosures, each with its own panda. They are solitary creatures and don't like to mix much. Thank goodness. The sight of two pandas cuddling or playing might just might be more cuteness than an ordinary human could bear (ha ha - I swear that wasn't on purpose).

There are two parallel ramps in front of the enclosures, and you are encouraged to stroll down one and up the other, giving everyone a good chance to have a look. Good manners went out the window as soon as I walked in the door. I stopped, creating a domino effect of panda watchers behind me. I couldn't move. I was spell bound. There in front of me was a giant panda sound asleep on a wooden platform. He was on his back, mouth open and with all four paws up in the air. I couldn't hear it, but I am absolutely sure he was snoring.

It is not terribly mature or sophisticated to jump up and down and shriek "OOOOH! LOOK AT THAT PANDA! HE IS SOOOOOO CUTE!", but that is what I did. Sadie,even more than usual, pretended that she didn't know me. Finally, someone behind me gave me a good push and forced me to carry on.

The second and third enclosures were empty, so I hurried down to see snoring panda again. Then, just as I was about to go past window number two, out came a beautiful female panda bear. I know it is unspeakably rude, and I am really not proud of it, but I simply would not budge from that spot.

Parents tried to push their eager children in front of me, but I wasn't having it. I figured that I had less time to do the 100 things to do before I die than they did. I took photos and watched her amble around for a good 10 minutes. I probably did more to damage Chinese/Western relations at that point than Tienanmen Square, but my wish was fulfilled. I have seen pandas. I am also the very, very proud owner of a cute, overpriced panda cuddly toy that we have named Bing Bing.

Back out into the sunlight, no other event that Ocean Park could offer could possibly live up to the panda experience. I have to tell you though, that in the dozen or so time Sadie had visited, she had never before seen the bears. She comes for the rides. So, off we went to the other part of the park.

This can be accessed in one of two ways. There is a cable car that offers magnificent views over the southern part of Hong Kong or there is a train. The trip up is unbelievably steep. There are stairs, but it would probably take me the better part of my life to get up them. I don't think that they are even open for public use. We took the cable car, and it was lovely, but I certainly wouldn't recommend it for anyone with height issues.

Once at the top, Sadie said she needed food. There were a number of food options, most of which involved some form of squid. There is something not quite right about eating something that was one of the attractions we had just visited. I am just trying to imagine how this menu would go down at Alton Towers or at Six Flags.

Thankfully, there were other options than munching on Squidward and Sadie was very happy with her french fries and diet coke. This is the ultimate food oxymoron.

During her feast, Sadie had been eyeing the temporary tattoo parlour. "No", I said, "Don't even ask". Of course, a few minutes later we were sat on the chair inside the booth whilst Sadie got her Panda tattoo. Giving in against your better judgement is a big part of the bonding process.

As foreigners, we are used to being stared at sometimes despite the fact that Hong Kong is one of the most cosmopolitan and ethnically diverse cities in the world. Just recently, I was accosted on the MTR by about 20 teenagers demanding to have their picture taken with a foreigner. Of course, I obliged with my goofiest grin.

Sadie actually attracted an audience whilst her tattoo was painted on. There was a crowd of people gathered round, pushing each other out of the way to get a view. When the tattoo lady was finished, Sadie stood up and the crowd actually applauded!

We then moved onto the arcade. This time I was really going to hold firm, and I set about telling Sadie how all the games are rigged and that it is virtually impossible to win a big prize. Then I saw the shooting gallery. OK, it was a Nerf shooting gallery where you shot plastic pegs with suction cups onto a plastic target, but it was still a shooting gallery. My resolve crumbled and I became the world's biggest hypocrite.

When I was about Sadie's age, I went to a summer camp. It was altogether a miserable experience, except for one thing. I discovered that I was really good with a 22 rifle. I've been hooked ever since. I would NEVER shoot at a living thing (I won't even let Sadie go to BB Gun parties when EVERYONE else gets to go), but boy do I love shooting at a target. I bought 10 rounds and sidled up to the bar counter. Everyone around me was doing rapid firing, but I took my time to line up that bullseye in my site. I felt like Clint Eastwood, Annie Oakley and John Wayne all wrapped up into one. Slowly, I pulled the trigger. Bullseye! I took my time with the rest and managed 5 bulls eyes and 5 in the next circle out. God, I'm good.

On to the rest of the park. It was time to do some rides. We headed off to the log flume. On our way, we saw large groups of mainland Chinese wandering around in packs. Some of them had on matching hats. Others had perky little matching bandannas. All of them had little tags around their necks which I can only presume said "If found, please return to Hunan Provence". Hong Kong tourism is big business in mainland China, and the groups are typically made up of older couples. It's sort of like visiting the Florida of the east.

These groups, with their bad teeth, worse clothes and what I can only imagine is the Chinese version of a hillbilly accent, are treated with complete and utter disdain by the local Hong Kong community. I rather like them. I can only imagine what they must have seen in their lifetimes, yet they retain a certain child-like innocence in the pleasure they take in places like Ocean Park. Then we got to the queue for the log flume.

All innocence was gone as these old folks pushed and shoved like they were in the queue for the last kilo of rice at the state rice store. I'm not kidding, they were vicious. They cut in front of as many people as they could, tread on toes and elbowed their way to the front. Then once on the ride, they looked miserable when they got soaked to the skin. What were they expecting? We got soaked to the skin too, but it was fun.

Then I had a really strange experience (as if being jostled by old Chinese people wasn't strange enough). We were in the queue for another ride (Raging Rapids, if you must know), and I spotted someone I knew in the queue. I knew I knew him, but for the life of me I couldn't thing of how. His was not a face I would forget as he looked like a youngish Paul Newman. I stared for about 10 minutes before he looked up and nodded at me and smiled before he turned away to talk to his very young Thai wife/girlfriend. It finally came to me.

It was a close friend of one of my exes whom I like to call Lucifer (No Grizz and Billy, that is not a nickname I have for either of you). It was driving me crazy because I couldn't remember his name. I remembered that he had been born with a really bad name (Malcolm Pratt), but he changed it by deed pole as soon as he was old enough. Who could blame him? So, although I could remember the old name that he changed before I even met him, I simply could not recall his new name. Then it came to me. Pat. His new name was Pat. Just to test out this theory, I yelled out "Pat" to see what would happen. What happened is that Sadie nearly died of embarrassment and the bloke didn't even turn around. I'm certain it was him though. I had heard to had moved to Asia a few years ago for the women to teach.

After a couple hours of different rides, it was time to head back down. This time we opted for the train. We were waiting for the train in a sort of holding pen with a bunch of mainlanders. Several of the women were staring at me and giggling. I smiled at one lady and she came over to me and poked me in the chest several times. Then, she gave two big thumbs up. All the other ladies then started smiling, nodding and pointing at my boobs like they had just won an academy award. I swear to you this really happened.

HONG KONG UPDATE 19 NOV 2019

Day 4 of Siege of PolyU.

18 Nov 2019 2330: Intersection of Nathan Rd and Pitt St. Police began to disperse citizens, footage widely shared online appear to show 1 white van accelerating towards the fleeing crowd with 2 other police vehicles following it. The video showed a group of officers from the Special Tactical Squad (aka Raptors) exiting from the first van and chasing after citizens. Some officers seen holding pepper ball launchers which they fired at the crowd. Several loud bangs heard. According to In-Media, a stampede ensued. A volunteer first aider told the outlet that a person broke their arm after someone stepped on it, but they were not able to receive treatment cos’ police wielded pepper spray and demanded all medics leave the area. Paramedics arrived around 15mins after the incident. 1 man on scene was unresponsive but regained consciousness after receiving medical treatment, subsequently taken away on ambulance. At least 68 ppl arrested in total. Many told to kneel on pavement acing wall with hands behind backs for more than 1 hour. Police confirmed usage of flash grenades in Yau Ma Tei. When asked about police vehicles speeding into the crowd, police said it was necessary. “Driving fast doesn’t mean it is unsafe.” Watching the video, it is the VERY DEFINITION of UNSAFE. They charged at really high speed without much consideration about crashing into anyone - and if they did, would have pretty much guaranteed a horrific traffic injury. A witness says he saw the stampede where dozens of citizens were piled up near MTR exit C1. “I heard ppl shout, ‘my leg’s breaking! i can’t breathe.’ He says he couldn’t do anything because there was no chance for rescue. A first aider’s witness account: 60-70 ppl stacked on top of one another, at least 4-5 layers. Some say they couldn’t breath, that they couldn’t move their legs, that their arms were about to break. “What I heard most was, ‘Please save me. I don’t want to die.’ ” Fire Service Dept confirms firefighters saw ppl “piling up” on Pitt St. 161 firefighters and paramedics sent, 31 ppl injured and sent to 7 hospitals, incl. 16 red cases. Hospital Authority: From midnight to 0440, 45 wounded including 31 from Yau Ma Tei upon FSD request. Upon admission, 7 male and 1 female in serious condition, 23 male and 9 female stable. Doesn’t split the male-female and serious-stable conditions between other cases and Yau Ma Tei, so not very helpful answer. Police issue statement insisting that there was no stampede on Pitt St in Yau Ma Tei on 18 Nov 2019 night. Instead it was “rioters fell to the ground while escaping on Pitt St near an exit of Yau Ma Tei station”. 213 arrested among which 30 said they were unwell, according to police.

18 Nov 2019 night: PolyU. Pro-Beijing ex-LegCo pres Jasper Tsang was not really there to “save the kids” lol. He was actually only there to save 2 girls who are rumoured to be daughters of high-ranking CCP officials. One of the girls was called 朱媛 apparently, the 2 girls were all masked and covered and left side by side with Tsang. Tsang denies that Zhu Yuan is the granddaughter of ex-Premier Zhu Rongji. Zhu Rongji’s publicly known family consists of a son and daughter and the daughter has a daughter which is obviously not surnamed Zhu. The son has no children. Tsang says Zhu Yuan is an ordinary citizen. Well, even if she isn’t Zhu Rongji’s granddaughter, the pro-Beijing faction’s actions are suspicious, especially if you know HK and Chinese politics well and are familiar with how the pro-establishment and CCP works. Why do they need to mobilise the high-ranking Tsang for two ordinary citizens? There must be a reason. They may not be ordinary citizens. Or pro-Beijing faction may be looking to create good images for their own voters ahead of elections. Or it can be something else.

0125: Nathan Rd. Suspected stun grenade, around 68 arrests. “You’d think it was a SWAT team mission against fully armed t*error*ists.”

Posted 0444: PolyU. Former Police Complaints Council member Edwin Cheng told Apple Daily reporters that some 132 ppl decided to surrender to police after persuasion on 18 Nov 2019 night.

0800: PolyU. Another dozen ppl trapped at PolyU decide to leave. Pro-democracy legal scholar Eric Cheung remains on the scene with students.

0909: PolyU. Mingpao reports at least 51 volunteer medics and reporters have been arrested for ‘rioting’, including members of Medecins Inspires, a frontline doctors’ organisation (the movement’s secret hospital service).

0937-0947: PolyU. Some ambulances parked outside campus. Police have lead 2 youths away in the last 10 mins, 1 in black shirt and 1 in white shirt, the latter appeared with wrists tied behind back. No ambulance action.

Posted 0958: PolyU. Apple Daily reports 300 have left voluntarily, 200 of whom were minors. It estimates only dozens remaining on campus. This conflicts with other reports. Many conflicting reports anyway.

1000: PolyU. Large no. of firefighters and paramedics enter campus to treat the injured, with some suffering from hypothermia after being repeatedly doused with toxic water from the water cannon. Firefighters also search the drainage system with reports that some ppl had tried to escape via the pipes, but have so far made no discoveries.

1027: Polyu. 11 police vans have just entered the cordoned area around PolyU on Austin Rd.

Approx 1030-1040: PolyU. About 30 ppl brought out, all appear to be medical evacuees suffering form hypothermia and other injuries. It appears a little over 10 others decided to leave PolyU this morning. Reports by some ppl who have gotten out reveal that they only got one meal since 18 Nov, several had to share 1 bowl of noodles, and some didn’t even eat anything since yesterday. The exhausted approx 30 ppl got candies and biscuits from paramedics. Any injured above 18yo can still be arrested first. But many said it was better than getting charged AND getting beaten up by the police.

1140: 1 citizen who escaped from PolyU tells RTHK that the police siege of the university has made him more angry. In trying to suppress this movement, the police are in fact creating more frontliners and a popular uprising for themselves.

1150: Parents whose children are still trapped inside PolyU are gathering at the police cordon at the footbridge next to New Mandarin Plaza. They plan to give a presscon at 1400.

Posted 1212: Defence lawyers helping arrested detainee have faced numerous insults and blockage from HK Police. One barrister shares: “At the police station, the police officer was referring to me - and to HK judges - as ‘cockroach’.” Contempt of court. Then again, rmb this sharing from a police officer secretly sympathetic to the movement: “When my colleagues break the law... our superiors provide cover for them.”

1308: PolyU. Between the rappelling escape (~100), release of children (~80), “surrender” of those in need of medical attention (~120) and other smaller escaped (?), there is an estimate of about ~100-150 at most. Estimate given by reporter Laurel Chor.

1311: Polyu. Reporter Laurel Chor says that there were several escapes from small groups earlier in the morning. Many were desperate and tried to crawl through sewage pipes despite the danger and uncertainty. Firefighters sent divers in to ensure no one was inside. Dubious rumours about ppl having successfully escaped through the sewer system. (Spoiler: There were a few groups who succeeded apparently.)

1332: Central. Massive police presence for lunchtime protest. Because right now the PolyU siege is the only other hot event, police have enough resources to block the lunchtime protest on this day. Kong Tsung-gan: “Look at the policing of the Central protest and the PolyU siege and it’s apparent the gov and police plan to put the whole city under lockdown....the intent of ensuring campus occupations never occur again. But the tens of thousands who turned up yesterday across all of central Kowloon from early in the morning until late at night show that when protesters decide to act, the police simply can’t keep us down.”

1340: Central. Police seen with MP5 and M16 where office workers in suits are protesting during lunchbreak.

1346: PolyU. Some ppl refuse to leave the campus. Lower ground floor of library is all flooded. Many rooms broken into. All the ones who remain are planning their escape. Police nowhere in sight but carefully guarding on flyovers.

1402: HK Chief Exec Carrie Lam calls for “peaceful end” to PolyU saga. Please read following text. LOL. Reminder: Police initiated and have been attacking a university for days with attacks designed to kill. One wouldn’t need to even have a “peaceful end” if everything didn’t START. Lam cited police figures saying around 600 ppl - roughly 200 of whom were under 18yo - had left the campus whereas about 100 remained as of morning. Lam said that all who leave will be immediately arrested except for those underage, who will have personal data collected by the police, who will reserve the right to take follow-up actions including arrests. Meaning even if you are one of the cooks in the kitchen you’ll still be charged, which is 100% BS. Lam claims authorities have taken a “humanitarian approach” (A/N: snorts) by allowing medical personnel to enter PolyU to treat the injured as well as not arresting children on the spot. Oh yes, we must thank the murderer for not murdering you on the spot. Ah, gaslighting at its best. You’re in the wrong and you act as if you’re doing some compassionate charity act that ppl must be grateful for and therefore grovel at your feet in indebtedness and disbelief at being accepted as a prodigal son? LOL. When asked why she didn’t go to PolyU to speak personally, Lam said, “I want to persuade the students to leave in person too, but my appearance will likely only worsen the situation, making it more difficult to resolve it peacefully.” Note how she frames it as the citizens being the ones making it difficult, when in fact she is the problem and root - if she didn’t attack, citizens wouldn’t be angry with her? Now she’s blaming them for being rightfully angry at her, she, who tried to kill them? Lam defends the PLA’s road clearing act. Please kindly read my selection of HK Updates 16 Nov 2019 posts on this issue, it clearly explains all that is wrong. It was illegal action. Choice quote of the day: “It is not the government that is creating violence and making threats.” Makes veiled threat to cancel elections.

1407: Kowloon. Seems like there’s a sit-in again at the spot outside the police cordon where the parents and social workers were on 18 Nov 2019. It’s the presscon the parents said they’ll hold. A pastor/priest is there speaking about the situation.

1420: Central. An expat questions policemen, asking where their identifying badges are. Now THIS is how you be an ally and use your white privilege. (Yes, in HK there is white privilege, if you look Caucasian and work a real good foreign accent à la British/American you get away with some things with the police which you otherwise won’t if you are South Asian or Chinese.) Police seem to be more patient with him, or at least the one trying to handle him seems to be in a better mood.

Posted 1500: Central. 1 woman arrested. She was out to meet her friend for lunch and arrested because she didn’t bring ID card and couldn’t produce one when riot police stop her for stop and search. Random ID checks are an abuse of power and symptomatic of a police state. “She didn’t put on a mask or anything, didn’t attack the police or anything, just standing there looking through her phone...”

1500: Police say they have arrested or taken details of 1,100 ppl at PolyU on charges including rioting and possession of offensive weapons. This statement is vague. How many arrested? How many had details taken? Why are police lumping the two together since they are very different legally? I can only say that it seems like an attempt to obscure details and make it difficult for citizens to check them for accountability and transparency and also to make it tough to provide assistance and collect evidence of police wrongdoings.

1553: Police have changed their motto from “We serve with pride and care” to “Serving Hong Kong with honour, duty and loyalty”. This comes as Christ Tang takes over on his first day as new police commissioner. Fun fact: Chris Tang has ties with the triads. Esp the pro-Beijing ones. The ones who have conducted multiple t*error attacks on citizens resulting in many grievous injuries and disabilities. There is literally a photo of him at a banquet dinner with them. Chris Tang is infamous as nasty guy so no one was looking forward to his appointment. Emphasising not “pride and care” but “duty and loyalty”, but no matter what police say, they never had all these things.

1557: PolyU. Japanese consulate confirms that a Japanese tourist in his 20s was arrested on 17 Nov near PolyU.

1609: PolyU. Polyu uni head Teng Jinguang runs away behind the police cordon line to avoid reporters’ qns.

1613: PolyU. Hospitals say they are swamped with injured from PolyU so ppl shld avoid going to A&E unless absolutely necessary.

1616: PolyU. Pro-dem lawmaker Ted Hui says that about 20-30 ppl will join him to leave the campus in a moment. They will then turn themselves in to police. Those 18yo and above, including Hui himself, could be arrested for rioting. Hui emphasises that he is not “surrendering” because he and the others accompanying him entered the campus for legit reasons.

Between 1622 and 1700: PolyU. Lawmaker Ted Hui walks away with students, some students cover themselves up with clothes and sob inside.

1700: Kowloon. Nathan Rd blocked again, bricks scattered near Shantung St.

1700: PolyU. Pro-dem lawmaker Ted Hui reaches police cordon with a partially middle-aged group - possibly “Protect Our Children” mediating volunteers - who are arrested. There is one under 18yo. But police officer tells Hui that he will not be arrested despite him being prepared for it. Hui calls police’s decision weird and that it shows the police operation is arbitrary. Hui is told to wait and has returned inside campus to provide assistance to the remaining crowd.

Approx 1700: CityU. Today the university hired a large number of black men in black to block all main entrances/exits of the campus grounds. Now the campus is fully sealed by the univeristy mgmt, students only allowed to exit but not enter, while staff still can enter. Security guards say that students need to show the email sent out by their faculty heads as a pass to enter. It’s pretty unusual, because on top of this extreme move against students by restricting their freedom of movement, black men are a pretty rare sight in HK. I wonder where they hired such a large number. The student editorial board reported that a member of theirs was buying food for the student journo team, which had been operating for 8 straight days alr. They tried to negotiate with the security guard after finding out that they can’t enter. The security guard called for urgent backup and 10+ security guards and 1 black suited bodyguard turned up at one point. Because the student journo team head was hungry, they went swiftly down to rescue their colleague. Only then did the guards release the returning student. All the black suited guards are generally younger than the school security guards, tall and well-built. CityU says that this is the last day students can stay within the campus and persuades the two student journo teams and the student union to move to a temp building. The City Broadcasting Channel rejects the suggestion and declares that they will continue using the original location.

Posted 1701: PolyU. It is revealed that some journos were forced by police to drop to knees, some were pointed at with guns, police also unlocked their phones and searched their cams when facing rejections. Police have no right to force ppl to unlock phones without a warrant, but legality has long since been thrown out the door by the police.

1720: PolyU. A group of students emerging. A crowd of adults across the road trying to get their info to contact their parents. One student shouted his name and parents’ info, and vowed he would not commit su*c*de, insinuating that if he’s found dead, it’s police.

1758: PolyU. Over 20 voluntary first-aid personnel still trapped inside issue statement denying any participation in any offence and condemn gov for trapping them inside. They emphasise that providing humanitarian relief in the form of voluntary medical services is not the same as participating in a riot.

1800: Mongkok. Riot police arrive on Nathan Rd, clear some bricks, warn pedestrians to leave area. Blue flag. Most citizens have already fled by the time.

Posted 1832: Reports of police rushing to search houses of all arrestees at PolyU. To avoid search, place notebooks and computers in another house where police have obtained no warrant to search.

1841: The youth who got shot in Sai Wan Ho is receiving lots of his beloved Lotte Koala snacks while he is staying in hospital.

1900: Tin Hau. Pro-democracy figure, former Democratic Party leader Albert Ho was attacked by 3 black-clad men. His fellow party member found about the attack when he received a text from a lawyer in the vicinity who witnessed Ho being chased by men with knives outside the MTR stn. When he exited the station to return home, residents told him that there were some ppl in black outside and that he should be careful. The group reportedly followed Ho into a nearby street and he was beaten up with sticks. Ho suffered injuries to back and head, with lots of blood to the head. The attackers escaped and Ho made his own way to Ruttonjee Hospital. Back has 6-7 very deep streaks. Both hands with open wounds, left needs stitches, right suspected fracture.

2033: Tsim Sha Tsui. HK teachers demonstrating at the harbourfront in support of PolyU students and to express concern for all their students on the frontlines.

2033: PolyU. Around 28 first aiders announce that they will retreat tonight. The rep says that as voluntary first aiders, they have done their duty, and says supplies including water and food are running low, and the hygiene situation keeps worsening inside.

2035: PolyU. 10 more will join the retreating first aider group. They are packing now.

Sometime in the day: PolyU. 20yo Thomas from another uni walked slowly with about 10 others towards police who then searched and arrested them.

Late in evening: Polyu. Another small group of citizens tried to run for it through the main entrance. Most if not all ended up running back into campus as police shouted at them and flashed torches rather than firing.

2042: PolyU. First aiders announce that they will evacuate shortly.

Posted 2050: 26yo reporter charged with unlawful possession of ammunition for collecting 40 used teargas canisters and rubber bullets for private investigation (9 teargas grenade shells, 28 teargas canister shells, 1 crushed teargas grenade, 1 sponge bullet shell and 1 rubber bullet shell). Court accedes to police request and he is denied bail and has to remain in custody until next hearing on 14 Jan 2020. Ridiculous. Police fire over 10,000 teargas canisters into your streets, your shops, your cars and your homes, but you are not allowed to pick them up. :’) And police don’t even send ppl to retrieve the canisters, they just leave the toxic waste lying around every where and keep firing more every day and night.

2145: PolyU. Paramedics preparing ppl for medical evaluation.

USA: Majority leader Mitch McConnell previously kept delyaing the HKHRDA. Today he puts Marco Rubio’s bill to the floor after much pressure from HKers and fellow congressmen. 49 senators have cosponsored the bill alr, half of Senate supports it.

2155: Tsim Sha Tsui. Teachers’ rally continues.

2222: PolyU. Medical evacuations underway. Some ppl can walk, some cannot. Seems like there will be many stories to tell about how so many ppl sustained such serious injuries or came to be in such poor condition.

2227: PolyU. Medical evacuees met by police on Cheong Wan Rd outside and taken to be ‘processed’. Unsure if arrested immediately or just having details taken.

2233 (as per screenshot of livestream): PolyU. Education lawmaker Ip Kin-yuen leads out many first aiders, which are then taken into custody by police outside.

2200 (unsure if 2200 as per HKFP or post 2233): PolyU. Suddenly about a half dozen ppl try to flee and are apprehended by a large no. of police near the fence to the Cross Harbour Tunnel. Hard to tell exactly how many tried to escape and whether they are part of the first aider grp or a separate grp. Either way it happened quickly and took police by surprise but police managed to capture them.

2259: An arrested citizen shares about their experience: While detained at Yau Tsim Mong police stn, every meal was just a small piece of sandwich covered full of wasabi or a golf ball-sized rice ball covered in dust. They were consumed under the intimidation and forcing of the police, with no water provided. Police blindfolded them, tied their hands behind their back, and escorted them to the basement, and kept firing into the air to simulate executions, even putting body bags in the interrogation room as a threat.

HK Bar Association says statement by China’s NPCSC Legal Affairs Commission on the HK Courts’ overturning of mask ban is “legally incorrect”. Obvsly. CCP issuing such intimidating comments on HK’s judicial process contravenes the 1 Country 2 Systems principle.

Summary of PolyU ppl left: Arnd 300 exited during this morn with Jasper Tsang and secondary school principals. Dozens more left throughout the day with teachers and pro-dem lawmaker Ted Hui. Hui said around 20 left in school by aftnn. There are actually more than that. Family of the remaining grp gathered at Tsim Sha Tsui east later in the day, urging gov to let their children leave safely. The grp’s spokesperson, a bishop surnamed Tang, said that those on campus refuse to leave due to fears of being charged with rioting.

2332: PolyU. Ppl who had tried to flee police have now been taken to police vans in the last 30min, 10 men and 3 women so approx 13 total. Ambulance was brought for some. 2 religious leaders and 1 lawyer allowed to visit.

Posted 2351: PolyU. 19 charged with rioting, all denied bail, to remain in custody until hearing, which is only in Feb 2020. 13 are students, age range from 16-29yo. They were arrested on 18 Nov 2019 at intersection of Chatham Rd South and Cheong Wan Rd.

20 Nov 2019 001: PolyU. Bishop Ha praying with a 16yo kid who has been staying at PolyU for 5 days.

0028: ‘More than 200 radicals’ to be charged for rioting in Yau Ma Tei on 18 Nov 2019, largest grp prosecuted for the same offence. Tbh now everyone is a ‘radical’ now, tens of thousands of ppl were literally on the streets the entire night of 18 Nov trying to lift the PolyU siege.

0051: PolyU. Firefighters search underground drainage systems again amid rumours of some trying to leave through them.

0056: PolyU. HKU pres Zhang Xiang has arrived to visit the remaining group in PolyU. He is accompanied by pro-dem legal scholar Eric Cheung. Cheung requests media to step back as he wishes to speak to students in private.

UN Human Rights Office decried HK citizens’ violence, calls for calm. Says that some HK citizens are resorting to extreme violence and was “deeply regrettable and cannot be condoned”, while HK Police and Gov continue to besiege a university for the 4th day and attempt to kill students. :’) UN Human Rights Office really needs to go and read my reports, especially those from 10 Nov 2019 onward. Go and read them. You are probably not human if you read my update series and still thinks that the citizens are the problem. Go get glasses a freaking heart.

Current impressions: *wearing my mtr shirt and jakurai/mtr ita bag while cuddling my jakurai plushies in broad fcking daylight and staring at the jakurai lock screen on my phone with a mtr case to pretend that i’m not that weirdo* so i may have a problem.

hi, so jakurai is my favourite character and its been a blast, bro. i first got into him because his looks and voice are to die for but then i read the lyrics to his first character song, and you see the pain jakurai is holding onto and letting it fuel his every movement and decision. (also, he makes a point to state in his song the equivalent of he will walk backwards in to hell with the final laugh. sexy.) you initially think jakurai has a god complex but in reality, he is so dependent on his friends’ happiness. if they are happy, he is happy. if they are sad, he is sad. their anger is his. because they are, therefore he is too

honestly nothing whatsoever but he does tend to attract weirdos, both in canon and in the fandom. don’t get me wrong its hilarious to see jakurai’s stans incapable of processing their very intense feelings for this one man but man his fans can be pretty feral (but i understand lol)

What i want to see from this character:

lol and tho i really doubt i could handle it, i’d like to see his years as an assassin. for all that i hate his suffering, he really makes it look good and i’m sure they’d make jakurai unfairly attractive murdering people for a living. one thing hypmic does well, i think, is handle death very seriously so i’m 100% ready to have my heart cut into pieces watching jakurai come to care for human life the way he does ;w;

Favorite moments:

hahaha read it and weeps kids, moments. okay so some of my top jakurai moments are:

1) jakurai as the final boss in the vrmmorpg event in arb. he was so cute enlisting ichiro’s help setting up the game and asking him tips on how to be the big bad and then struggling to maintain the role lmao

2) when jakurai got drunk in the drama track ‘testimony.’ chalk it up to his seiyuu’s talent, but the way you can hear him getting drunk by the sounds of his chugging and then the sheer energy drunk!jakurai has compared to the first time we heard him get drunk is so much fun!!

3) jakurai in the fp vs mtr manga. they didn’t have to draw him like that. but they did and i spend every waking hour thanking them for it. especially that moment when jakurai hears dohifu’s rap for the first time. they just have a fantastic style but the way they give the jakurai fans what they want makes me wonder if they’re a stan too lol

Headcanon:

i actually had this headcanon debunked by actual canon lol. see, before canon mucked this up for me, i believed that jakurai had taken in kannabi yotsutsuji because he was the one who took out his parents as an assassin. seeing yotsutsuji so heartbroken is the final push jakurai needed to quit being an assassin and take control of his life

LMAO AND THEN THE GUIDEBOOK DROPPED A FAT TURD ON THIS WITH THE CANON TIMELINE like unless there is another retcon in the works, ramuda says assassin jakurai disappeared from the world 10 years from when they met in the tdd era. that makes jakurai 22 when he stopped killing people for an occupation. jakurai was 27 when he picked up yotsutsuji lol

fortunately, i think about jakurai all day every day and i can just tweek this lol. forget ages, jakurai has a thing for kids, and it may come from the fact jakurai may have started assassin work as a kid, probably with because of a traumatic loss of his parents. so he takes in yotsutsuji because he’s always trying to repent, but also he wants to make things better for a kid he sees in himself :’)

[Chorus] [Chorus]* : the first line is slightly different from [Chorus], just “決戦/kessen” instead of “最終決戦”. So instead of “ultimate final battle”, it’s “final battle.”

TL Notes:

The og text is "男臭い", which also means "manly" or "masculine", therefore it could also be translated as "You're so manly...I can smell it." So instead of attacking Riou directly it could be bit more petty.

Here I used “enthralling” for simplicity; the og text is “夢中にさせる”, which literally means something like “make you feel as if you’re in dreams”. So this could translate to something like “Shinjuku is the dream/fantasy of 19-year-olds to aunties.”

The og text is “そう甘くない”, meaning “it’s not easy/innocent/simple”, and to capture all that I used an idiom instead of a more literal translation.

“単細胞/tansaibou” means a single-minded or simple-minded person, but literally it means “single cell”. It’s like how the person has only one brain cell, or that he’s a unicellular organism.

Here on the lyrics sheet from the CD, it says “すくおう(sukuou)” which could be “救おう” or “巣食おう”. The two words in this line could mean either Jakurai would “save” or “nest/take root in” the darkness of a deep well. Depending on your impression of Jakurai...

On the lyrics sheet it says “石”, which reads “ishi” and is the same pronunciation as “医師”, doctor.

They’re referring to themselves; as in they’re the rogues standing by the sides of Jakurai.

In case you don’t know already, Matenrou is also the pronunciation for “skyscraper” in Japanese, so it’s a wordplay that can also mean “we’re the skyscrapers that scrapes the sky.”
