Hiii :)) you mentioned hp podcasts in your Tomarry answer I was wondering if you could share them??
Of course!
@ohwitchplease goes through each book by discussing the story in relation to broader concepts like feminism, anti-semitism and orientalism. It’s truly thought provoking and they host amazing guests from the field.
@careofmagicalshippers has discussions of any and all HP ship you can think of! It’s immensely fun and you’ll find yourself considering/liking ships you never would have expected! It feels like chatting with your fandom friends and has me genuinely laughing out loud.
@fanficmaverickpodcast has interviews with ao3 fic authors from a variety of fandoms. It’s really interesting to hear their passion project stories and writing processes! I feel like this gave me a deeper understanding and appreciation of different ships/parts of the fandom.

The new @ohwitchplease Material Girls got me all excited to read Sarah Whitfield’s “Boublil and Schönberg’s Les Misérables” I wish I could get academic texts from the local library. Maybe I can get them through an interlibrary loan.

Lately, @ohwitchplease's podcast has been making my little #harrypotter #nerdy heart sing! Really deep dives into literary analysis of the Harry Potter novels and their wider meaning in the world --including unpacking some of the biases and prejudices built into the text. Absolutely excellent accompaniment to transcribing Many Notes. And it's made by two fellow Canadians! 😃 🍁🇨🇦 ✨ What have you been listening to recently? 🎧 . . . #witchplease #podcasts #writerlife #playwrightlife #writing #listening https://www.instagram.com/p/CIirxlXFSDp/?igshid=zny9qnogls3l

#GRADBLRCHALLENGE  . . .  day one
DATE: monday, 06 march 2017
SCHEDULE:
~~wake up call~~ 05h30
11h45-13h00 - IRST 398J lecture (Irish Literary Revival)
TO ACCOMPLISH:
return short essays to susan
DAILY DO’S:
eat (breakfast     lunch     dinner)
drink water (1 glass     2 glass     3 glass)
wash dishes & clean kitchen
FINAL REVISIONS*:
okay in today’s “shit i did today that was not a good idea” section we have: not managing to print the comments for the essays on time, leading to me skipping class and still not getting there in time to hand back today; forgetting that waking up fucking early without a proper night’s sleep to back that up leads to total brain shutdown after meds wear off (read: 15h30); forgetting that i have a space heater and trying to work while freezing my butt off.
on the positive side, susan was incredibly gracious about the essays, and even let me sit in her office to staple comment printouts to the corresponding essays for an hour. also, i got the grading done and off my chest, and the report for wednesday is more or less finished anyway. also i really do love being up early--mornings are the best time! i just need to make sure that i have at least 7 hours of sleep behind it next time.
*yes i totally stole this section title from the @ohwitchplease podcast

I discovered so many new, fantastic podcasts in 2016. Here are my top 9 recommendations: @ohwitchplease, @theadventurezone, @fansplaining, Busted: America’s Poverty Myths, @hpsacredtext, Another Round, Bad with Money, Buffering the Vampire Slayer and @srslypod.
Reviews and listening order suggestions under the cut :D
Witch Please  - Current number of episodes: 47, post twice a month
This is possibly my favorite podcast of all time. The hosts are Hannah McGregor and Marcel Kosman, both PhD scholars of literature and professors at two different Canadian universities. In February 2015 they began re-reading and re-watching all of the Harry Potter books and movies in order and discussing them at the level you might expect in a college class. They particularly focus of themes of race, gender, sexuality and power, picking apart places where the books stand up to their own progressive ideals and where they fall down. Each episode is broken down into cleverly named segments from "Sorting Chat" to "Final Revisions". In "Potions Class" they critique the pedagogy and teaching techniques exhibited by the Hogwarts professors (it is a school after all). In "The Boy Who Narrated" they reveal Harry to be a deeply unreliable narrator of his own story. In "Granger Danger" they discuss what we all already know: that Hermione is the true hero of the HP series. The whole podcast is infused with feminist glee, peals of witchy laughter and repeated calls to burn down the patriarchy >:) Technically you don't have to listen to this one in order, but I would highly recommend it.
The Adventure Zone -  Current number of episodes: 54, post twice a month
This podcast is created by three brothers, Griffin, Travis and Justin McElroy (who also run the podcast "My Brother, My Brother and Me") and their dad, Clint, playing D&D together. It is THE BEE'S KNEES. In the first episode they introduce their characters- Merle Highchurch, a Dwarven cleric, Magnus Burnsides, a human fighter with a heart of gold, and Taaka, a flippant gay elf wizard. The three set out together on what seems a routine mission guarding a caravan of goods through the mountains but soon becomes much darker, more dangerous, and more hilarious. A set of seven magical artifacts of immense power, the Grand Relics, are threatening the very nature of reality and only these three heroes seem to be able to resist their thrall. Listening to this story grow organically out of the chemistry of this family is an absolute pleasure. It is full of weird and silly jokes, occasional tangents and the sound of actual rolling dice. The tale they weave together is exhilarating and heartwarming. If listening to other people play D&D sounds like your jam, and even if it really doesn't, I highly recommend it. This one can ONLY be listened to in order!
Fansplaining -  Current number of episodes: 39, posts twice a month
This show’s tagline is “By, For and About Fandom” and it is hosted by best friends Elizabeth Minkel, a fandom journalist, and Flourish Klink, a fandom consultant who works in Hollywood. They touch on different topics in every episode, but both have deep backgrounds in Harry Potter (Flourish helped found FictionAlley.org). The show was born when they met each other on a fandom panel at Comic Con and decided to have each person who'd been on the panel come in for a longer conversation. I started at the beginning and listened through in order, but you could also pick and choose off the episode list the topics that sound most interesting to you! There’s a huge range from talks on conventions, shipping, gaming, YA literature, race, memes, law suits and beyond.
Busted: America’s Poverty Myths - Total episodes: 5, complete
This one is a little different because it's actually a complete 5 episode arc, with no other episodes planned. It's one of the best pieces of journalism I found last year. It includes interviews with multiple people who have different experiences with poverty and the Welfare system, including Jack Frech, a Welfare advocate from Athens County, OH. This one isn't a fun light listen like most of the others on this list, but it was really good.
Harry Potter and the Sacred Text -  Current number of episodes: 33, weekly
This podcast is run by Vanessa Zoltan, a Humanist Chaplain at Harvard Divinity School and Casper ter Kuile, a Harvard Divinity School graduate. The concept is simple: read through the Harry Potter books and discuss them as if they were sacred texts. They read one chapter per episode and are currently about half way through book 2. They chose a theme to focus on in each episode such as belonging, hope, white privilege, regret, love, and so on. They also use a specific cultural sacred text practice in each episode, often play a voicemail from a listener, and bless a character. This podcast goes less hard on the analysis then "Witch Please" but I find it an incredible comforting listen!
Another Round -  Current number of episodes: 77, almost weekly
Another Round is a Buzzfeed production, hosted by Heben Nigatu and Tracy Clayton who talk about everything from race, gender, politics and pop culture to terrible squirrel jokes. I didn't start at the beginning with this one and I've never really listened to it in order. In almost every episode they have a guest on, so initially I just picked guests who interested me. Here are some other episodes I thought were particularly good:
1000 Black Girl Books - this episode includes two guests, writer Ashley Ford and child prodigy Marley Dias. Dias, at 11, is more well-spoken, well-read, and pro-active than almost anyone I've heard of. She famously got bored of reading stories about "white boys and their dogs" and decided to collect books about black girls instead.
Burn - this was the show's post-election episode, and it was a key piece of my recovery process. Heben talks with frequent guest Bim Adewunmi, a British-Nigerian journalist who has been covering the election since March. Bim attended both the Republican and Democratic National Conventions as well as touring the south talking with voters. Her perspective as a well-informed outsider is both grim and gleefully defiant.
Betrayer of the Patriarchy - the guest here is Anil Dash, a first generation Indian-American who worked in tech. He talks about racism and misogyny in his industry, flying while brown, and his effort to be 2% less reprehensible every day.
Water Protectors - a recent interview with Dr Adrienne Keene, a Cherokee Native and professor at Brown university, on her experiences visiting and witnessing the Standing Rock protest of the Dakota Access Pipeline.
Immigrant Stories - this episode is a best-of compilation of seven interviews with different guests who are all immigrants or children of immigrants, including: Stacy-Marie Ishmael, a Buzzfeed editor; poet Jenny Zhang; Top Chef star Padma Lakshmi; Lin-Manuel Miranda and actress Uzo Aduba among others. This episode is a good one to get a feeling for the overall flavor of the series.
Bad With Money -  Current number of episodes: 22, weekly
This show is hosted by Gaby Dunn, a youtuber, comedy writer and a self-proclaimed famous millennial. She is also colossally bad at saving money, managing finances, understanding how various things like stocks work, etc- this podcast is her quest to get better at dealing with money and it is honest, informative and very warm-hearted. She talks with her parents, with a financial counselor, with her best friend and business partner and a whole host of guests mainly from the entertainment industry. Some episodes that really stood out to me were about the intersection of wages and disabilities, the intersection of money and feminism and also money and race. I'd listen to at least the first five or six of these in order, after which you could jump around in the order if you want.
Buffering The Vampire Slayer - Current number of episodes: 17, weekly
A great show for either a long-time or just beginning Buffy fan, this podcast is hosted by Jenny Owen Youngs, a musician, and her wife Kristen Russo. They are watching all of Buffy and recording one episode of the podcast per episode of the show. They've just started season 2. The first two episodes are a little wandering... unfortunately they didn't plan out their different segments before the show started like "Witch Please" and "HP Sacred Text" did. They eventually develop a set of segments they do every episode- the Buffy Fashion Report, the Sexual Tension award- but it takes a little time to get there. I am super enjoying listening through this though because it's almost like just re-watching the show, except listening to two adorable lesbians giggle over it instead :D
SRSLY -  Current number of episodes: 77, weekly
This podcast is hosted by Caroline Crampton and Anna Leskiewicz, two British pop culture writers for The New Statesman. Listening to it is like getting to eavesdrop on two best friends chatting about the latest movie, music, book and TV show releases over brunch. I don't always know or care about whatever they are reviewing and yet I have listened to every single episode anyway because they are both such charming people. My favorite segment is at the end where they take turns recommending something to each other which is not necessarily a new release, sometimes its a favorite thing from their childhood. It's very sweet. With this show you could either start with the most recent and listen backwards, start at the beginning and listen forwards, or start anywhere in the middle.

Trying baking with silicone for a second time after Project Birthday Poundcake failed real, real bad.
Today’s experiment is a Blueberry & Lemon Black Tea Cake with glaze. It’s not super sweet: it just has whatever sugar was in the tea powder along with the lemon and blueberries. The glaze will just be sugar, lemon, water, and a bit of butter all melted together and poured on top. I’ll let it cool and eat some while I listen to @ohwitchplease and wait on my marimo to arrive.
Hopefully, it’ll be good: I just checked it and it smelled and looked much more solid than my other cake did. That’s a sure start, and makes me fear silicone a little bit less.
