Varian Month is Coming Up!
Starting on 24th of March we're doing a whole month plus of Varian themed prompts over on the RnR discord in honor of the birthday boy.
Now, while we are the ones hosting the event, the entries do not have to be RnR focused, just Varian themed. (Unless you just want to do stuff based off the fanfic. Then you're of course more than welcome to.)
You can use whatever media you want; art, craft, cosplay, fanfic, essays, video ect.
Link or post your entries in the events channel on the discord, and if you post on Tumblr @ us or send us a DM.
Week 1 - (24th & 25th) Alchemy
Kicking off the event we have a simple theme of the science boi doing what he does best. This is a shorter week, which is why we're giving you plenty of notice.
Week 2 - (26th - 1st) Best Buds
Friendships are the name of the game this week.
Week 3 - (2nd - 8th) AUs & Crossovers

Part 5 of “I have no self control, so I made a Playlist for Fanfiction I like”.
I made another one of these. I can’t promise it’s going to be the last one. It might be, but I don’t know. Again, this is for @rocksandrobots two fanfics, Of Rocks and Robots and Phantoms Of The Past. There will be spoilers for the both fan fictions. Sorry for any spelling or grammar mistakes. Warning: Some of these songs talk about sensitive subjects, especially the Citizen Soldier songs.
Still Breathing by Citizen Soldier. Varian has been though hell in the Kingdom Of Corona. And he how to go through all of that with no one to help him. Not even The Big Hero 6 know exactly what went through, because they never been through everything he has been through. But they are here for him now. Monsters of Memories by Citizen Soldier. Varian might be in a better environment now, but the things that happen in his past still haunt him and cause him pain. That and a small part of him still feels like if his new friends new absolutely everything he did in his past, they will leave him. That and people from his past really are coming back to haunt him. Fake Friends Forever by Richie Branson. The Tangled gang only ever seeked out Varian when they needed something from him and then they make him out to be the bad guy if he doesn't give it to them, as seen in the Halloween arc. Something Wild by Lindsey Stirling. The Big Hero 6 gang knew Varian has been through a lot but they also knew he’s strong, and he can overcome whatever else the world will through. Who I Am by The Score. In Corona, people painted Varian as a monster, even when he was just asking for help at the beginning. This view on him continued when decided to fight back. While not all his actions were perfect, Varian knows he doesn't carry as much blame as the king does, and he not going to just forget or forgive what the rulers of the kingdom has done, just so they can live in their fairy tale world view. Unconditionally by Katy Perry. I know this meant to be a romance song, but I feel like it can still apply to platonic relationships. Pretty much all of Varian’s relationships in Corona were conditional. As in, when he wasn’t being their idea of perfect or what they wanted from him, they turned on him. But the people Varian has relationships now, in the Big Hero 6 world, they accept all of him. Varian is there friend, and he doesn't have to do anything to be that. If No One Will Listen by Kelly Clarkson. The Tangled crew, royal family, and the people of Corona wouldn’t listen to Varian when he try to ask for help, call them out on their problems and etc. So Varian had to fight alone. Even before the amber and such, Varian was used to doing things alone. But his friends in the Big Hero 6 world are letting him know, he’s not alone anymore. Dog Teeth by Nicole Dollanganger. This is basically Varian and the Big Hero 6 characters calling the Corona royal family and some other Tangled The Series characters what they are: Monsters who hurt people with no remorse and then have the nerve to think of themselves as caring people. People Like Us by Kelly Clarkson. Varian knows what it’s like to be seen as the villain when in reality, you’re just a scared and confused kid. Varian tells Trina she’s not alone anymore. Apologize by OneRepublic. Again I know this song is meant to used in a romantic light, or a breakup type light, but I think it can also be used in a platonic way. This Varian saying that he used to trust the Tangled crew, he even looked up to and admirer some one them, but he knows better now. And a simple “I’m sorry” isn’t going to fix things. Savages by Marina And The Diamonds. All of Corona likes to think of themselves as this perfect place with perfect people. But it’s pretty much a dystopia with glitter painted on it to make it look nice. The rulers are awful, the laws are awful, and the people of the kingdom are awful. Guilty All The Same by Linkin Park. The Tangled gang and the kingdom of Corona, especially the royal family want to play victim and blame Varian and others for all their problems, but they truth is, they caused most of the problems, have the power to fix their problems, but chose not to. Fairytale by Gabby Sophia. This is mostly on the list because of the lyrics “What if the bad wasn’t the bad guy? What if the hero wasn’t really good?” because that more or less described Varian with the Tangled series. Another part of lyrics that describe what Varian had gone though in Corona is “I guess the beast ended up alright in the end, but what if the enchantress messed with their heads? Maybe she made them all hate him. What if he was always kind and it was just their state of mind?” because Varian only tyring to save his dad and no one would help him, and the king and later the rest fo the Tangled crew painted him as the bad and turned everyone in the kingdom against him. Also, this song has the feeling of someone who grow up with fairy tales and then finding out about their horrible truths, and Honey Lemon seemed to love fairy tales and is now horrified at how Varain was treated in Corona. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8nafLvGJUE8

Fanfic Fashion - Four
Di Amara creates ‘evil’ clones of Big Hero Six.
Spoilers under the cut..
Varian flipped on the light switch and was met with the sight of a tall woman with long blond hair standing in the middle of his lab. She turned around to give him a wickedly charming smile. Her face was both beautifully, hauntingly familiar and horrifyingly alien to him.
“Hi handsome.” She greeted in a sultry voice.
“What are you doing here?” Varian asked, as he tensed up.
She bushed off his question with a shrug and then sat upon the edge of his desk. “I got to thinking. Since your girlfriend dumped you, I thought you’d might want to have a little fun?”
Varian narrowed his eyes at her. “Okay, first off, Honey Lemon and I never dated, and secondly why on Earth should I trust you? What are you really after?”
The girl who looked like Honey Lemon, but wasn’t, rolled her eyes. “Geez, chill out, will you? I’m off duty. We don’t slave away for Di twenty four/seven you know.”
“Then why did you come here?” He asked, as he crossed his arms.
“I told you. I’m here to have some fun. You’ve any idea how annoying it is to be cooped up in a stuffy lab with those lameo losers all the time?”
Varian raised an eyebrow. “So you decided to spend what little freedom you have breaking into a lab just to spend time with another loser?”
“You’re not a loser. Your dorkiness is kind of cute actually.” She gave him another smile. “Oh come on. I know you’re attracted to me, too. Don’t lie. I look just like her, but without all the weird hang ups and Catholic school induced prudishness.”
She examined her newly painted nails with a haughty expression on her face. “I could treat you right.”
Varian only frowned at her.
The clone sided eyed him, and then snorted with laughter when she saw his expression. “Wow, you really like playing ‘hard to get’; don’t you mister stoic?”
“I’m not dumb, and I’m not going to walk blindly into a trap.”
“Oh, I’m a trap am I?” She suddenly whispered.
Varian didn’t know what that meant, and he was even more confused when she started to slowly take off her jacket. He supposed she was trying to be seductive, but it wasn’t as if the cropped militarily coat actually hid anything to begin with.
She laid the red jacket aside, leaving the black tube top she wore fully exposed, and then started to tie up her hair, using her black headband as a pony tail holder.
“Don’t you ever get tired of being on your guard all the time?” She asked. “All those dirty little secrets you keep, all that fighting, all that effort you put into self destructing at every given opportunity... it must be exhausting. I can help you relive that all that stress.”
She stretched and childishly swung her legs back in forth, as they wouldn’t quite reach the floor from where she sat perched on the high desk. The toe of her leather black boots only barely scuffing the linoleum floor, despite her height.
She smiled wide at him again even as he took a more defensive stance. “I’m not her. I don’t care about commitments, or ‘making you stay’, or prying into your very weird and traumatic backstory. I’m just here to offer you a good time, and then we go our separate ways. So truce?”
“I’m not buying it.” Came Varian’s reply.
For a moment the cheery facade fell away from the woman’s face, and for a split second Varian thought he may have to fight her. But soon the fake smile was back on her face, and she gave another shrug.
“Oh well,” She sighed. “I tried. If you don’t wanna play, then I’ll just go find someone else who does.” She stood up and slung the jacket over her arm. “It’s your loss though.”
Varian didn’t stop her from leaving. As soon as she was out the door, he rushed over to the desk to make sure she hadn’t stolen any of his research. Then suddenly, she slammed the door back open.
“Oh come on!” She whined, and stamped her foot on the ground. “Are you really not going to follow after me?”
“Why should I?” Varian asked distractedly as he flipped through a folder.
“What am I doing wrong? I thought guys couldn’t resit a pretty face.” She continued on, ignoring the fact that he was ignoring her. “I rehearsed this a thousand times and the one time I try it for real, I completely blow it! And I know it’s not like your immune to romance or anything, I’ve seen you make out with both guys and girls.”
Varian paused in his computer scan to give her an incredulousness look. “How long have you been stalking me?”
She returned his expression with an annoyed one of her own. “Di made us study all of you, so that we can better copy you. Duh. It’s not like that’s how I want to waste my time. It’s not like I asked to be trapped in a laboratory my whole life, and only be allowed out so that I can watch someone whose just like me have everything that I could possibly hope for and just throw it away.”
Suddenly she started sobbing. “It’s not fair! I didn’t get a prom, or a graduation, or an abuelo, or a mother, and I certainly never had a cute guy chasing after me... telling me how wonderful I am all the time. I never get to have fun or do anything for myself at all! I never get to experience anything... I don’t even get a name! But she gets all of it, and she doesn’t even care! She doesn’t appreciate it. She treats both you and Mauve like crap cause she can’t get over her pathetic daddy issues, and meanwhile I get sent on crummy missions like this... which if I don’t do... if I don’t do...”
She was choking on her tears now. Varian too a step towards her.
“Cause if you don’t, Di will punish you.” He whispered, finishing the thought for her.
Varian had never met this Di Amara, but according to everyone’s stories, she sounded like a truly nasty piece of work.
The girl pouted up at him. “Di doesn’t know I’m here.” She gave a shaky breath. “She can’t know. You asked what I’m really after... it’s Zero. You have to give him back. Di will kill him if you don’t.”
The tears started to flow once more and she flung herself a him. Sobbing please over and over again.
Varian’s mouth suddenly grew dry. Zero had told them what happened to clones that displeased their creator. Di short circuited their brains and melted their bodies down to be reformed into a new clones. While he didn’t necessarily like the guy, the idea of that happening to someone who shared his own face nauseated him.
“Hey, no. That’s not going to happen. Listen to me.” Varian pulled away and and gently lifted the girl’s chin so that she was looking at him. “What is your name?”
“They... I’m called Four.” She sniffed.
“That’s a number not a name.... what do you want to be called?”
“I... I don’t know.” She blinked, confused. Then she suddenly got angry. “What does it matter!?”
“It matter’s because you matter!” He shouted back, and he firmly grabbed her by the shoulders. “Look, we’re working on a way to break the code that Di programed into you. To set you free. Zero volunteered to come with us, to be the test subject. He’s risking his life willingly to save yours, to save all of you. You have to give him a chance.”
“No!” Four howled and pushed him away. “You don’t know what you’re doing! You don’t know what Di is capable of. You haven’t seen what she’s done.”
She cried and pulled out a chimball from her pant’s pocket. Varian held up his hands and backed away quickly.
“Well I have seen it.” She continued.”And I not risking it. Take me to my brother, now!”

Imagine a butch who dates robotgirls and she's got the belt and carabiner "ready for business" look down, but all the stuff hanging from it is reverse-engineering tools.
A full set of screwdriver bits (including security torx and those weird tri-wing Nintendo ones), assorted spuders, those little rubber suction-cups you use to remove LCDs, a line flashlight, macro lenses, IPA wipes, chip pullers, portable hot air rework gun and a pinecil soldering iron, desoldering braid, a wide variety of ESD-safe tweezers, and one of those anti-stack wristbands but on a retractable lead like it's for walking a dog.
She left her backpack at home but it's got a stereo inspection station, a full set of lockpicks (including those tubular lock impresioning ones), and an aging ThinkPad with a bunch of USB adapters: every memory card format you can imagine, all the major hard drive interfaces, and even 3.5"/5.25" floppy disks thanks to a 3D printed enclosure with a greaseweazle flux imager (the Applesauce stays at home connected to her Mac Mini). A USB optical drive that can read and burn all the cd formats, and a as small plastic case of some blank CD-Rs, DVD-Rs, and Blu-rays. A bunch of USB flash drives, some blank, some preflashed with assorted tools and marked with little keychain labels: some linuxes, a warezed all-in-one windows installer, live distros for tails and kali and partionmagic and DBAN.
She's ready for anything.

As soon as I found out what happened to the original professor in SV, I found myself wondering what their AI counterpart did afterwards. Didi they give the body a proper burial? Did they mourn?

3.What work are you most proud of (regardless of kudos/hits)?
Honestly, I'm just amazed by how far I've come on the RnR fic. I think season 2 is more polished than season one, but both are connected, and so I consider it one long fic.
29. Favorite line/passage you wrote this year?
Maybe not my favorite, but I'm the most proud of my self for writing the lyrics to whole ass song.... (now I just need to write the actual music for it)
"Why you.. you ... lying... arrogant... backstabbing... crim-"
Varian pressed a finger to her lips to silence her.
"Now, now princess..... Remember your decorum." He gave her a wicked smile. "After all you don't want to disappoint daddy dearest. That is all you care about isn't?"
" You, you left me in the cold.
I was drowning in my tears,
for I needed your hair of gold.
But you wouldn't heed my fears
So now, look where we are, princess ... The reverse is being told."
He walked back up the stage as he sang, and handed a guitar to a very confused Trina.
"Dude, what is happening?" She hissed.
He ignored her, as he continued to sing.
"Here you are, crying 'Help me, please.'
'The world may die,' you lied
as you fell to your knees.
but it's all to save your wounded pride.
We both know... You're not the healer, you're the disease."
The rest of his bandmates looked on, confused as well. Megan and Carol shared a shrug and decided to play along as best they could. They started playing to the tune he was singing, and the music came out inexplicably like it was rehearsed. Even Trina reluctantly joined in, though she never stopped staring wide eyed back and forth between Varian and the girl now at the bottom of the stairs.
"It's all about you, is it?
Your pains,
Your gains,
Your whining refrains.
It's all about you.
Your lies,
Your highs,
Your tearful cries
It's always about you."
Rapunzel wasn't having it. She marched up the stairs as she began to join in his song.
"You're one to talk about being selfish.
All you do is moan about your own misery.
Curse and condemn me all you wish
But nothing you did saved people from tyranny
For the truth is... You won't find your own soul without blemish."
" But it's all about you, isn't it?

Varian grabbed her hand and twirled her around the stage and they began a sinister dance as they both sang together.

"Your stipulated gains." Varian howled as Rapunzel wrapped her hair around him. They both began to glow brighter as a wind picked up.
" It's all about you.

"Say your goodbyes. " Rapunzel warned as she started to will the spell to reverse itself.
" Flower gleam and glow
Let your power shine. "
"Arrragh! NO!" Varian seethed as eyes filled with a white light that obscured his pupils.
Rapunzel gritted her teeth and pulled the rope of her hair tighter as she sang a new incantation.
"Send us back to whence we came.
So that we may save wh - Ahh!"
Varian wiggled out of his bonds, grabbed her hair, and started pulling her towards him.
"I'm not going anywhere!"
They were nose to nose, eyes and hair glowing, the wind whipping around them in a frenzied whirl, but only them,
To everyone watching, it was a spectacular light show. Very few understood that it wasn't a real performance.
"It's not always about yooooouu ."
They sang together, before the same white light covered Rapunzel's pupils as well.
" Save what once was mine. "
The light grew blinding and everyone had to shield their eyes, the blue and yellow clashed. Soon the yellow light covered all and for one horrifying moment none could see Varian or Croana's princess anymore.
