On this day, October 5
In 2022: My Chemical Romance performed their 51st show of the 2022-2023 Swarm tour in Oakland, California, USA. At this show, the drum kit was a smiley face with a painted on bullet wound. (🖤)

That he be all in black, except that he have a hat of straw which suit not him or the time.
A bit of context - men weren't supposed to wear straw hats after the end of summer. Dracula is committing crimes against fashion as well as crimes against not eating people.

The front page of the Daily News on October 5, 1955. Headline: THIS IS NEXT YEAR! The Brooklyn Dodgers had won their first and only World Series the day before. The headline refers to the chronic lament of Dodgers fans: wait till next year.

So, my instinct on Van Helsing’s lack of understanding of British swears is to blame Jack.
Young British med student studying abroad in Amsterdam accidentally lets out a curse in front of his super prestigious professor and then tries, with typical Seward-level smoothness, to cover his ass.
VH- “What does this mean, Pet-Student John?”
JS- “Umm, right, that is, uhh, I dropped my scalpel and I *could have* cut myself and gotten bloody. *Wait, that’s actually true* I MEAN OF COURSE IT’S TRUE THAT IS WHY I SAID IT. ANYWAAAAAYS, tell us more about science pls”
And there are two possibilities.
1. Van Helsing believed him because why would precious Pet-Student John lie?
Or
2 (The correct answer) Van Helsing now pretends he doesn’t know how swears work to troll the living hell out of Jack.

Tailored suit with peplum bodice.
Brick red woolen suit, trimmed with putty cloth bias decorated with gold buttons. The lining skirt, finished with a flounce, is covered with a tunic made in front with a pointed apron; we circle the contours of this tunic with cloth bias. The trim is repeated on the contours of the jacket and sleeves, as well as those of the large collar; the fronts, crossed, are cut in the shape of large lapels ending in points. The waist line is highlighted with a sheet of cloth, under which the peplums cut on the sides are mounted. We complete the wide sleeves with bubbles held in narrow cuffs. The suit is completed with a cream chiffon tie.
Autumn suit with large collar.
The skirt of this suit, in dark blue sable cloth, is encircled at the bottom with two stitched blue cloth bias bindings; a similar bias tape 6 centimeters wide hides the front seam.
The jacket, fitted and held at the waist by a cloth belt cut to shape, is made with half-length basques made up of six pieces (see the sketch representing the back of the costume); it is completed with a large collar simply decorated with stitching. The fronts, closed under a cloth bias, are trimmed with small old silver buttons. We highlight the seams of the jacket with a row of stitching.
The very flared sleeves are edged with a shaped ruffle hiding the small ruffles and decorated, like the sleeves, with a large silver button.
The suit is completed with a bib with a straight collar [in canvas and a regatta tie in dark blue velvet.
