Venus #2
Plot-heavy sitcom-style fluff.
Della hires private eyes to follow Venus.
Of course she does! It's like reading a 1948 version of I DREAM OF JEANNIE. There's something quite endearing about the fact that Venus always tells the truth. It's hardly her fault nobody believes her. The last couple of pages are funny.

Citroën 2CV Pré Série, 1948. The 2CV is 75 years old this week (October 7) having been introduced at the 35th Paris Motor Show (Paris Mondial de l'Automobile). It had literally been designed to traverse a ploughed field carrying a basket full of eggs on the passenger's seat without breaking them. Citroën Vice-President Pierre Boulanger wanted to motorise the large number of French farmers still using horses and carts. It remained in production until 1990

WHY
Because over 3/4 of a century of colonialism, and extreme zionist propaganda being taught both at Jewish institutes, and across occupied Palestine, means they've completely sold the idea that a 'proper' jew is a zionist, and then they made themselves one of the most important parts of, especially western, economy.

One Dress a Day Challenge
Black and White October
Easter Parade / Ann Miller as Nadine Hale
Nadine apparently has tons of dogs and coordinates them with her outfits as extra accessories. Here's what she wears with a pair of borzois.
This costume only appears for a few seconds--the gif above represents about half its total screentime--but it's memorable nonetheless. It's one of the most historically accurate costumes in the film, for a start (this parade sequence takes place in 1912 or 1913). I like the addition of the feather spray on the hat, as compared to the design sketch. The effect of the crossed scarf is interesting too.

Untitled. [What's the Use of Going Through With This Election?]
Record Group 46: Records of the U.S. Senate Series: Berryman Political Cartoon Collection
This cartoon concerns the 1948 presidential election. President Harry S. Truman, the Democratic Presidential nominee in the election of 1948, was widely expected to lose by a large margin to Republican nominee Thomas E. Dewey. This cartoon, printed just days before the election, shows Dewey confidently looking over the shoulder of a frowning Truman as they read bulletins showing the prevailing public opinion at the time. Despite several polls predicting a landslide victory for Dewey, Truman won the election in one of the biggest and most well-known political upsets in U.S. history. Journalists at the Chicago Tribune were so convinced that Dewey would win that they prematurely printed the headline "Dewey Defeats Truman" on the front page.

I fucking hate TikTok because all there is on there is literally either zionists or nazis hiding under the guise of supporting Palestine. You can see someone post a video of a centuries old mosque that has been bombed to the ground and the comments will be filled with “good job” or ”and we’re just beginning” and then someone will reply to them with a dog whistle for Jewish ppl or say that they deserved the holocaust. Someone literally made a sound merging “from the river to the sea” with that one Taylor swift song, to show their support for Israel, and the comments were filled with people who supposedly support Palestine using ableist language going “is it acoustic” “is it restarted” in the comments.
And when you do find actual Palestinian support videos, you’ll have people saying that they don’t care and that it’s not their business; I literally got into an argument with someone who said “with the us economic crisis, you can’t possibly expect people to care. Why can’t someone just decide to stay uneducated?”. Content creators saying it’s not their place to speak, as if with Ukraine they didn’t speak up
It’s the most absurd thing because with Russia and Ukraine, almost everyone was in support of Ukraine and almost everyone knew about it and if you didn’t speak about it you were an asshole. But now , it’s the usual victims again isn’t it; as long as the victims aren’t white, you can decide to be uneducated because it’s fine, it’s not your business is it?

Not me just receiving a message saying „but hamas killed and abducted many innocent people it’s difficult to take the right path after a massacre like this“ to a post I did on insta sharing a slide about Israel’s control over Gaza supplies and how this is not an even „conflict“ 🤡🎪 like what
Ok i asked her politely to please educate herself on terms like nakba, intifada and she said she „knew about it“ but then she also just legitimately said „Israel has never shown pure hate against a religion like they do“ and im literally out this is like talking to a wall
Ive been so mad and tired just from today again to the point I got nauseous and was shaking from anger. I spent the majority of my day on news sites and social media accounts and still see people saying shit like this. And I am a white German non religious woman - I am not a victim of any of this. I can’t imagine the rage and despair Palestinian people feel when being blamed and criminalized and on top being called terrorists now bc other people who could actually possibly help by rising up against this injustice and putting pressure on their governments to act and stop the bombing instead of supporting it are too dumb to tell apart terrorists from civilians.

Venus Stops the Presses
Tumblr media
Venus #2
Almost plotless.
Mr. Hammond takes Venus to the printing plant. Hilarity ensues.
Same as before, the idea is that Venus is (somehow) unaware of the effect she has on men. Her presence in the printing plant causes predictable problems. All of which is mildly amusing. The real joke comes at the very end, when the script manages to deliver a genuinely good punchline. Even more than earlier instalments, this felt like a vintage sitcom. This series is harmless, pleasant and well worth reading. Sure, it's silly but it's not stupid.

[ID: A video clip showing a Black person in a green coat interviewing an elderly white person holding up a flag, with more protesters in the background displaying Palestinian flags.
The interviewer asks, "Why is it important for you to be here today?"
The protester responds, "Well, uh, I'm Jewish, I'm Israeli, my parents were the only survivors of their families from the Holocaust. They both survived Auschwitz. I'm not going to support genocide am I?
"I'm here with the Palestinians, and we are here with Palestine, because we don't believe that what the British government is doing is correct. The British government is supporting this genocide! It's arming Israel, it's financing Israel.
"BBC and the other media here is supporting genocide. This is illegal. This is immoral. We don't agree with it, we will never agree with it, and as Jews -- and myself as Israeli -- I am totally against it, and we will continue to be against it.
There are now more than 60 such events in the whole of Britain, uh, people don't want to support this. They are against this government on so many other issues, but especially on this one."
Another elderly white protester next to the first joins in, leaning forward to add:
"And, also, this didn't start on October the 7th. In 1948, Palestinian villages, hundreds of them --"
Another elderly protester interjects specifically, "500 of them".
The second protestor nods and continues, "were demolished, thousands of Palestinians, innocent men, women, and children were slaughtered, and seven-hundred and fifty thousand Palestinian refugees were created. That's when it started, and it hasn't stopped since!"
End ID.]

048 is the writing on the wall
The Hamas massacre happened because many people did not take Hamas at their word. Although Hamas openly declared their intentions and goals and followed up consistently with actions, many people in Israel and around the world pretended they did not see, did not know. It was easier. Less scary. Long before the Hamas massacre of October 7th I’ve been taking note of graffiti in my city, Haifa. The…

Nothing screams ahistorical more than pinning this ongoing devastation in Gaza on October 7 alone.
What this purposely ignores is the fact that there was no "October 7" in 2008/9, when Israel's aggression in Gaza killed 1,385 Palestinians. There was no "October 7" in 2014 either, when Israel's aggression against Gaza killed 2,251 Palestinians. There was no "October 7" that lead to the Israeli aggressions in Gaza in 2012, 2021 or 2022, nor in the many years before which were filled with Israeli massacres and ethnic cleansing all the way to 1948 and beyond.
This of course attempts to paint Israel's disproportionate violence as retaliation when in fact it is a continuation of its terror and brutality. October 7 is not the context. Colonisation is.
