@helldustedstories : "I didn't want you to see me like this." [Stolas to Via]
Tumblr media
She'd found out over a text message. Her mother didn't even think this was worth a phone call, just : your father's in the hospital. The only reason she had any more information than that was because she had the IMP numbers in case of emergencies ( upon her father's insistence, and she hadn't bothered deleting them yet ) and was able to get ahold of Millie.
She got across the city on her own, pushed her way through the crowds of people lingering around, waiting for some answers or explanations or just wanting to get some fucking pictures for the tabloids. And now, standing in the doorway of his hospital room... Octavia didn't know how to react.
It wasn't as if she was unaware that there were weapons out in the world capable of doing this kind of damage. It wasn't as if she didn't know things like this could happen. But... she'd never imagined it happening to them. To him.
"...right."
Releasing the door frame, Via slowly walks into the room, dropping herself into the chair that sits only a short distance from his bed. He's already bandaged, his clothes sitting off to the side. Blood turning black against the fabric, and she's momentarily nauseated at the sight of it. What the fuck happened? She can't quite bring the words to her lips, strangling them in her throat as she tries to just get her thoughts in order.
Tumblr media
"You..." It chokes off again, and she scoots the chair closer to the bedside, until she's close enough that she can reach out and take his hand. What can she say...? She's never seen him in this state, not seriously. Words of encouragement aren't exactly her forte. She's not a glass half full kind of girl, never really has been.
But... there is one comfort she can think of. Something that, even now, brings her some modicum of peace.
Quietly, she hums, "As the stars start to align, I hope you take it as a sign... That you'll be okay. Everything will be okay..."

Everything that can be done inside has been done, and there’s still no end to the downpour in sight. Octavia is going yo have to ask Cherry to borrow their kitchen to finish cooking tonight's feast—and if the acid rain keeps up, maaaaybe even host? Eek. That’s a lot…
Tyler's going to hold down the fort in the meantime. Maybe fix the stove if the rain ever lets off?

3 and 8 for the history ask?
3. Favorite female historical figure
Oh gods, that's a tough one. Love Fulvia and Clodia Metelli so much. Love Aurelia (Caesar's mom), Livia, and Octavia (Augustus' sister) a lot, too. And Hypatia of Alexandria is from a completely different country/time period but still has a special place in my heart.
If I could only pick one, it'd probably be a toss-up between Livia and Aurelia. For now. It's so hard for me to pick favorites...
8. An obscure historical figure who needs more love
SNAIL MAN.
The scene: Gaius Marius is besieging a fort atop a steep, impregnable mountain during the war against Jugurtha in Numidia. The fortress appears impossible to attack, and there's a big risk Marius' legions will die of hunger before the defenders do. But if they retreat, Jugurtha will keep killing Romans. What do?
Enter: a random, absent-minded soldier who really likes escargot.
So, Randomus Snaileaterus has gone out one night to fetch water. On his way to the well, he gets distracted. By snails! He hasn't had snails in years! He wanders off from his cohort and enthusiastically collects all the juicy snails he can find, getting so wrapped up in his snail-spree he doesn't notice he's scaled an entire mountain until he almost walks out in front of the enemy like a goddamn Looney Tunes character.
Snail Man realizes he's all alone, and (presumably) almost pees his tunic before realizing the Numidians are all looking the other way. They're watching the path up the mountain, and he came up through the back. So, with all the prudence you'd expect of a 16-25 year old boy who has spent an entire night eating snails off the ground instead of doing his job, he ninjas his way up a tree and sneaks into the fortress just because he can. Then skedaddles back to tell his boss Marius about the sweet new path he found.
Snail Man then leads an entire legion up the back entrance, and I want you to picture 5,000+ armored legionaries trying to be vewwy vewwy quiet, because they're hunting wabbits enemy soldiers, before finally managing to capture the fortress.

March 22: Octavia & Clarke, Cunning/Rough
Octavia & Clarke, Modern AU, from the same 'verse as Make a Lot of Money and Feel Dead Inside
~1350 words, written in about 50 minutes
For the prompt "cunning and its antonyms: simple, ignorant, blunt, rough" from my July Break Bingo 2023 card.
cw for references to sexual assault
*
They start high school with reputations, all because of a prank they'd pulled the summer before. Clarke called it a revenge plot; Octavia, getting even.
Now everybody knows Clarke to be smart, but dangerous—cunning, the kind of girl who will convince you to let down your guard around her, even when you know better, excavate your secrets and use them against you, sharp and cold beneath a mystifying surface. Octavia, her best friend, her shadow, is the rough-and-tumble sort, a hazard to one's health in a different sort of way. She gets into a scuffle out back of the school at the end of the first week of classes, which cements the whole thing. She's tough, rough, and simple, a girl unafraid of bruises, jutting out her chin to show the raw bleed where the skin's scraped off.
The origin of the legends spools back to the Fourth of July party at Dax's place in the long, hot, humid, languid interim between eighth and ninth grade. Clarke was invited because of her beauty, Octavia on the strength of her older brother's connections and because Clarke was going, and they came packaged together as a set. Octavia still had the tomboy look of her early adolescence, long and rangy and lean, proportions she hadn't yet grown into; half her wardrobe was old hand-me-down's from Bellamy. She thought she looked like something in the right light, thought maybe that might matter, to the right boy. Not many looked at her when Clarke was right next to her, round-faced and blue-eyed; she'd started wearing low-cut shirts that showed her cleavage, sundresses that made Bellamy go protective-chaperone on her if he saw, made his face get all red and embarrassed, and cut off shorts, tan lines from tank tops striping her shoulders.
At the party, all the boys looked at her.
Except for one, who caught Octavia's eye over the top of his Solo cup and didn't let go, didn't blink. Someone was waving around sparklers in the background. The air smelled of cut grass and some distant neighbor's grill smoke, pulsed with bass beats from Dax's stereo.
The boy introduced himself as Atom. They sat around for a while on the back-porch steps, the concrete cold and rough against Octavia's legs and the backs of her thighs, talked bullshit until after a while he was resting his hand on her knee. He didn't mention either Clarke or Bell. She didn't have much to say, too distracted by an awareness of his body heat, an overpowering scent of body spray, his goddamn hand.
They made out for a while in the backseat of Dax's father's car, which was parked in the driveway, so she could see the late-sunset fading through the windows and the twilight building. Through the crack in them she could smell the smoke still, lingering on the humid air, hear the same sort of chirps and buzzing that she'd hear from out in the swamp in her own backyard, back home. Such thoughts distracted her often: how distant she felt from his hands pawing at her. When he touched where she didn't want, she kicked him, weakly, right above the shin because it was where she could reach.
But he was on top of her and didn't seem overly concerned.
That was a spiral moment. She thought of it that way later, that topsy-turvy vertigo that comes from control slipping, the sick-slipping sense that anything could happen, and none of it would be hers.
She got a knee in, scrambled out backwards through the unlocked door, fell right on her ass in the gravel. Scraped up heels of her palms, the cut of a small, sharp rock. He hadn't gotten far, but the damage was the fear itself and it was done.
Telling Clarke about it in the fort, waving her fingers through sifting beams of pale sun that came through the holes in the walls, she kept so calm that her own voice unsettled her. No big deal. But it sucked. Let's send Bellamy after him—maybe he'll kill him.
"He might," Clarke answered seriously. And: "We've got to fix this one ourselves."
Dax was going to be a sophomore. He didn't have a car or a license but he knew how to drive because his cousin had taught him when he was twelve. So yeah, he’d take Clarke out on a ride down some deep-rutted back road until they found a good spot to watch the stars. It was his pleasure. He didn't know any constellations but that was all right. She pointed out a few to him, instead.
The cool thing about Clarke was that she was just shy enough to be cute, in a play-acting way that all guys basically believed, confident enough to let them know what she wanted and how she expected to get it. She wanted to know what he wanted. His daydreams, his fantasies. Her soft voice in his ear, teasing, cajoling—baby, babe—what do you really WANT? The sick-secret stuff. You're safe with me.
Octavia had hiked her way out ahead of them, was crouched in the long grass listening to the sounds of face-sucking and drawing pictures in the dirt with her stub nails, thinking about how great an actress Clarke was—fuck (a deep-forbidden word, still new on her tongue)—fuck, she really knew what she was doing.
And the tape recorder in her purse, next to them on the flatbed, picked up all of it. Confessions you could make a mix CD out of. Stuff he should have known better than to tell anyone—stuff Octavia would never tell if she was him—stuff she’d definitely never tell Clarke, if she was him, Clarke who had already distributed all of her love, or at the very least all of her loyalty, and would never gather up the crumbs of it for him.
After a while, the sounds tapered off. The familiar insect-riot grew louder in its wake. She flicked her gaze across the tall, thin stalks of burned-yellow grass, to the dark interstices, the hint of the rusty blue flatbed on the road. She could see it by its own headlights. The back, where Clarke was, dark as it was quiet.
Then she heard the click of the tape player, scratchy in the July night, like the trigger of a haunting. A sound where it should not be. Her ears were so attuned to it, waiting for it; but afterwards, she could only hear the cadences of Atom's recorded voice, not the content of the whispered, breathy words. She tuned it out to static. All static.
Sharp staccato yelling followed, empty threats and a couple of other new words, sharp-edged profanity she hasn't added to her vocabulary yet, and at last she saw a shadow-figure jump down from truck. She turned on her flashlight, finally, stood and pointed it at him, so he was caught in the beam like a deer. When he tried to rush her, she beat him to it. In her spare hand, she gripped Bellamy's knife with the blade snapped out.
He didn’t know she had it and he'd never approve.
Atom stopped up short, kicking up dust as he slid, halted: a cloud of it in the high beams. Over his shoulder, Octavia could see Clarke's silhouette, standing eerily still and watching them and waiting.
"You're fucking crazy," Atom spat out at her. But she had a knife almost to his throat so there was a tremor to the words, and she found the whole thing, that terrible blood-pounding moment, so wonderfully thrilling, so sharp and real, that she almost laughed like the deranged villain he must have thought that she was. She almost threw the knife away. She almost stabbed him. She almost ran, sprinting, yelling, cackling, like some sort of malevolent spirit in the night.
In the end, she just scared him. And Clarke never replayed the audio. Eventually she even unspools the tape and crushes it beneath her heel. But still their reputations precede them, for the rest of their days stuck in the deep-sucking mud of Arcadia Falls, and in some ways even after, because this is how they know each other and themselves.

do any of ur ocs have specific songs you associate with them heavily? like you cant think of one without thinking of the other
lots! for reassassination, i'm always reminded of octavia (in a spoilery sense, so i won't delve too far) when i listen to eleanor rigby by the beatles XD the band godhead has a really cool cover of that song that fits more with the "vibe" of reassassination, so that's the one that's in the playlist ! other songs that are very "octavia" to me are 100% by angelspit and dead by the birthday massacre.
vivica is also a character who has a lot of songs that are totally definitely written about her, those being poor impulse control, angels fuck devils kiss, and fear of dying all by jack off jill (my fav band ever rn), and heaven knows i'm miserable now, how soon is now, and bigmouth strikes again by the smiths!
vivica and octavia as a duo/foils also have a bunch of songs that feel like they're about both of them at once/together, those being brackish by kittie and nero forte by slipknot among others. paperdoll by kittie also feels like vivica's view of octavia to me, and vivica (coincidental similarity, vivi is actually not named after this song) by joj feels like octavia's view of vivica,,,, realising this ask reply is basically all about vivica and octavia,,, oops

Another dream finds themselves in Octavia's realm.
❔❓uhhh... where is this..? did i get separated from quetz?
- @questimingo
(Octavia's realm is a small stone fort built atop a hill shaped island, surrounded by a seemingly endless purple ocean, releasing a purple mist. Looking too hard at the mist or water makes it hard to remember, well, anything. The other dream finds themselves standing upon a wooden dock, a small rowboat nearby. The boat is filled with holes, and yet remains afloat. The fort's small wooden door is open. A small sign hangs above the door, although it's too far away to read properly. There are various corvids all throughout the island. The other dream does not remember how he got here. Periwinkle and pheasant's eye flowers grow throughout the island.)

Give us a random Sign tidbit? :3
[hm....]
[ill give you three, one headcanon thing, one story thing and one small, silly thing for me that ive been wanting to share for a while]
[sign LOVES cuddling. like. almost an unnatural amount. if you ask him what his favorite thing to do is, he will tell you its cuddling with bob. it has nothing to do with how fluffy bob is and everything to do with the fact that he just likes the physical contact. it was something he always did as a little kid. after he had a nightmare, hed go to octavia, who would wake up simon, who would wake up katrina, and the four of them would go into the living room and cuddle in a giant pillow fort. he may not remember that, but cuddling still brings back that feeling of being safe and happy, so thats why he loves it.]
[after the fight with bob a few days ago, sign went straight to octavia. he told her everything, starting all the way back when mage first started trying to convince sign that bob was cheating. her first reaction was to go hunt down bob and snap his neck, but after a few more seconds of thinking, she decided that probably wouldnt be best. after a few more seconds, she told sign that she was almost positive that bob still loved him. after all, it had been how long since the fight and bob hadnt gone after nuffle? after some more conversation, she finally convinced sign that bob was still in love with him, and the nuffle thing was NOT going to last very long, and then promptly kicked him out of her room and said that he wasnt allowed to come back until he made up with bob. so. thats what hes doing now.]
[i have a voice claim for sign, as well as a song for him. a theme song of sorts.]
[voice claim and song :3]

summary of my found family OCs
This is one of the many stories that take place in Whimsica, a world that has magic. During the holiday season, the following people come together and turn their troubles into comfort and joy. They become a loving found family for the holidays.
Whimsy Academy is a huge school with magic, and has 100 floors. It accepts students from 4 to 44 years old. Anyone from 20+ can be a teacher. The school has many quirks and each floor has a different theme. There is even a floor where everyone has to pretend to be a pirate. During class, monsters spawn in the halls like an RPG and the only way to repel them is with a Hall Pass, which is a magical item the teachers give out. The magical girls’ job is to fight and rescue people from monsters, along with spreading joy. The monsters are made of negative energy and do not have a conscious. When defeated, they tend to drop loot. They are very mysterious creatures.
Octavia Forte is a middle school teacher. She is 32 years old. Her class thinks she’s a vampire at first because of her eccentric vintage style. She used to be an idol with the name Mia Okuda, spelled with kanji that can also be pronounced “Octavia.”
(奥田美亜) She is also a former member of a girl band named Crescendo. Octavia is gender-fluid and a lesbian, and forms a romantic relationship with Aria Dolce, a fellow teacher who was once very strict. Octavia was once targeted by a prejudiced parent due to being LGBT+, being told she was an unfit teacher. Her class stood up for her, saying they all love her as a teacher and a friend. Octavia is a veteran magical girl who mentors Amy and Emily in magic endeavors. She can also turn into a bat, but still isn’t a vampire. Her magical girl form casts magical spells and has a cauldron, so she’s more like a witch. She has a spooky motif. Naturally, she loves Halloween. Her birthday is the day before, October 30.
Aria is 35 years old and a teacher at the same middle school. She was once very strict with students until meeting Octavia. Meeting Octavia changed her and helped her realize that students are in need of care and guidance, and need to be taught with love. Aria also stood up for Octavia when she was targeted. Aria and Octavia eventually get engaged on Christmas Eve. She is also a veteran magical girl before meeting Octavia. She can turn into a fox. She is a witch-like magical girl with nature magic. She is less spooky than Octavia. Her birthday is January 9.
Amy is an 11 year old student of Octavia Forte. She is in the 6th grade. She doesn’t like Ms. Forte at first and has anger and trust issues. Amy is jealous of Ms. Forte’s confidence, thinking she’d be ignorant of her feelings. Amy warms up to Ms. Forte once she realizes she’s understanding, and has problems of her own. Ms. Forte becomes Amy’s favorite and trusted teacher. Amy is Emily’s best friend and they met during a baking activity in school. Amy stands up to bullies when they pick on Emily so they won’t bother her again. She has a bit of a temper from pent-up stress, but is a very sweet girl. Amy loves to learn new recipes and cook. Amy’s parents recently divorced, and she had to move to a new apartment with her mom, leaving behind her old home, father, and baby sister Abigail. For Amy, this is her life falling apart. Amy is Romanian and German, she has short blonde hair and green eyes. She is usually wearing a beanie hat. She loves dinosaurs. She is Jewish, and celebrates Hanukkah. Her favorite food is chicken nuggets, especially dinosaur-shaped ones. She eventually adopts an orange cat named Sunshine. She becomes a magical girl alongside Emily, and her magic has to do with food and cooking. She meets other magical friends in the dream realm. Her weapon is a giant whisk. Amy’s color is orange and her flower symbol is a sunflower. She is associated with the sun. Her birthday is December 23.
Emily is Amy’s best friend. She is a quiet yet energetic 11 year old girl. She is in the 6th grade. She loves to cook recipes, write poems, and be with Amy. She has Down Syndrome and is an only child to two loving parents. Emily has a favorite stuffed snow leopard named Carol. She also has a counselor at school named Ms. Evans who gives her guidance and inspired her love of poetry. Emily has expressive dance moves she does when she feels happy, that involve waving her arms. Sometimes Emily is stressed, but Amy encourages her and is always there for her. Emily is very grateful to Amy and expresses this through poems. She has trouble standing up for herself at first, but learns to have courage and rely on herself. Emily admires Amy’s bravery. Emily likes to help people. Emily has a wish to make hospitals a happier place for children, as she doesn’t like how gloomy the hospital sometimes feels. She and Amy end up decorating their local hospital. Emily is black with brown eyes and black hair in cornrows. She is chubby, and wears glasses and can’t see much of anything without them. She has an interest in cats and felines and aspires to make a story about them. Her favorite food is spaghetti. She becomes a magical girl alongside Amy, and her magic has to do with poems and words. She meets other magical friends in the dream realm. Her weapon is a giant pen. Her happy dance also gains magical healing effects. Her stuffed leopard Coral comes to life as well. Emily’s color is purple and her flower symbol is lavender. She is associated with the moon. Her birthday is April 6.
Lanyue Fei is 20 years old. His first name means Blue moon in Chinese. He is a college student at Whimsy Academy (the school is for students 4 to 44 years old.) It’s where where Amy and Emily have their middle school classes as well. Lanyue is a very dapper and classy, yet sensitive individual who wears a tailcoat and monocle, and has a flair for the dramatic. He is quite generous and whimsical, and loves musical theater. Lanyue is a talented singer and plays the guitar. Tadeo looks up to him a lot. He has a close friendship with Juhong, who contrasts him. He is also a magical enby. (He is actually a non-binary he/they.)
Juhong Cha is 20, and Lanyue’s best friend. His first name means scarlet in Korean. He is wild and chaotic, even uncouth at times, but a good friend. He dresses in elegant feminine clothes, and his classy appearance contrast his personality. He yells a lot and often causes chaos and pranks. And Lanyue usually is stuck fixing the situation. Juhong’s antics are comic relief, but he has hidden depths. He is a talented singer and plays the piano. He has a close friendship with Lanyue, who contrasts him. He is a magical boy. He has a crush on Lanyue, and really cares about him. But are his feelings reciprocated?
Tadeo is an 11 year old boy who had been diagnosed with leukemia. He’s upset to be in the hospital for the holidays. He tries keeping a positive attitude, but it’s difficult. Tadeo is extremely lonely in the hospital. One day, Lanyue is visiting the hospital due to being anemic. Tadeo is wandering around outside of his room, finds his way to Lanyue, and begins excitedly talking to him out of wanting a friend, only to soon break down crying because of the weight of his situation. Lanyue decides he wants to make Tadeo happy. Amy and Emily meet Tadeo when they decorate the hospital. They befriend him and make him feel less alone. Tadeo’s parents were absent a lot, and he doesn’t feel loved often. Tadeo always wanted to be a musician or idol. He has a brotherly relationship with Lanyue. Tadeo recently started learning to play the violin. He is Guatemalan with medium skin and dark blue hair. Tadeo eventually recovers and is cancer-free by the time of his birthday, which is January 17.
Right before Christmas. Tadeo’s condition worsens and he is sent to urgent care. Lanyue and Juhong, who are his friends, decide to fulfill his wish on Christmas Eve in the dream realm. The dream realm is the world that exists inside dreams. Queen Rainbow helps grant Tadeo’s wish by using her power to let him and his friends have a magical dream.
Inside the special dream, they give Tadeo a magical concert, and Tadeo sings and duets with Lanyue. Tadeo is grateful for this, and he gains enough courage to be able to gain a magical power and transformation. Tadeo becomes a magical boy because he fulfilled himself. In the world of Whimsica, fulfillment is an impactful event, milestone, or experience that is special to the person and grants a magical power. It is different for each person, but usually involves gaining courage or overcoming a hardship. After Tadeo recovers, he joins the magical group. He has music-related magic.
Queen Rainbow may be Whimsica’s queen, but she isn’t strict and would rather be everyone’s friend than a ruler. She even rejects her royalty just to be closer to everyone else. Queen Rainbow is only 16 and has advisors who make sure she’s the best queen she can be, but she’d rather just be a good friend. She has very powerful magic of miracles.
Reisei Kiyosawa is 22 years old. His first name means calm in Japanese. He is a shy young man who is frequently in the hospital due to his weak constitution due to having pulmonary hypertension. He dislikes the hospital’s gloomy atmosphere and the fact he will be spending his holidays there. He also befriends the group and is affected by everyone’s kindness. He loves writing poetry, like Emily.
Sowon Moon is a friend of Reisei who is a magical catboy from another planet called Catopia. Sowon’s first name means hope in Korean. Sowon is half black and half Korean.
Amelie Sugar is an 19-year old girl who is acquainted with Lanyue and Juhong. They all become closer during the holiday season. She is also my self-insert character. She is half black and half Korean. She is a magical girl who has a magical giant paintbrush named Whimsicalibur. It paints magical pictures, and is a weapon that shoots rainbow beams, does damage when it hits people, and Amelie can even fly on it like a witch’s broom! She has quite a few animal friends.
Sumi Shimizu is 21 years old and one of Amelie’s best friends. Her first name means pure in Japanese. She is a shy girl who loves books and dreams. She is albino. She is also a skilled magical girl.
Joy Smiley is 17 years old and another one of Amelie’s best friends. She is cheerful and optimistic, and loves to make people smile. However, she can have a temper and is clumsy. She is black, with dark red hair and hazel eyes. She is a magical girl too.
Pastell is another version of Amelie (a separate entity) who is magical. She was born from imagination. She lives in the same apartment as Amelie and has bunny ears and a dinosaur tail. She lives with Amelie and is generally chaotic and unhinged. She is a magical being, so she is naturally a magical girl.
Madeline is Joy’s 15 year old friend who had been diagnosed with an invasive tumor and needs surgery right before the holidays. She is terrified, despite being strong and brave usually. Madeline used to ride dragons and fight monsters! But she has a fear of surgery.
Cosmo is a lavender-skinned, green-haired alien who came to Whimsica from her home planet, Floritopia, which is filled with flowers and colorful life. Cosmo’s goal is to spread a little happiness across the universe. She is funny and eccentric, sometimes without meaning to be. She is annoying at first, but everyone realizes how happy she ended up making them. She also helps bring the group together.
Lenny, Oscar, and Lola are the class clowns in Amy’s middle school class. Together, they make the LOL Trio.
Randy is an obnoxious boy who wants to join the LOL Trio, but his name won’t fit. Eventually he is accepted and they become the ROLL Trio.
Sparkle and Twinkle are two magical talking bunny rabbit siblings from space who assists everyone on magical adventures. Sparkle is mostly pink with upright ears. Twinkle is mostly blue with floppy ears. They have unicorn horns.
Snowbell is Sumi’s stuffed cat who came to life. She only can meow, and loves adventures and has lots of love to give. She is playful, loves the company of people, and her favorite food is cake.
Carol is Emily’s stuffed leopard who comes to life. She is a quiet big cat who loves Emily and is a bit shy around others.
Bagel is a sarcastic, grumpy talking basset hound dog with a personality more befitting a cartoon cat. He may be snarky, but he has a big heart and is wise.

Unconditionally Cared For
pairing: Marcus Kane/Abby Griffin
ao3: Unconditionally Cared For
for: @stormkpr (cc @johnmurphyisqueer @hyperion-moonbabe-art3mis)
notes: hi !! i have not written fic for the 100 in ages and i don’t think i have ever written any that was set even close to in canon, so this was very new for me. i’ve also never written kabby before, even though i absolutely adore them. also, this idea came to me at about 11 pm christmas eve, so it probably is not as good as i’m telling myself it is. but here !!! merry christmas/happy holidays <3
For once, Marcus was glad to be awake before Abby.
Their room had a little window that showed the center of the camp- Arkadia, as they’d wound up calling it- and through that window came a harsh, cool light. It wasn’t Marcus’s first time seeing snow- they’d been down here, what, just over a year now?- but it was his first time being with Abby in the snow, and he couldn’t wait for her to see it. She always lit up whenever she saw something beautiful, and he was sure this would be no exception.
Slowly, carefully disentangling himself from Abby’s body- she let out a soft sigh when his arms moved from around her ribs- he crawled out of the bed, being sure to tuck the blankets around her as he went. He smiled softly, then made his way to the window.
The kids- most of them damn near adults, if he actually thought about it- seemed to have discovered the snow already- Miller was building a fort, Harper appeared to be attempting a snowman, Jasper was making snow angels, and Bellamy had a quickly growing pile of snowballs sitting between him and Clarke. Kane’s smile grew as he watched them. He knew things had been difficult lately, for all of them, but especially for the kids, and he was glad to see them enjoying themselves.
Drawing away from the window, Marcus grabbed two tin mugs from a cupboard in the room and set about heating up water, dropping some tea bags that Jackson had made into the water, then set about getting ready for the day.
He was halfway through putting on his jacket when he heard movement from the bed. Abby was blinking awake, giving him a soft smile as she opened her eyes.
“Good morning,” he said, giving her a soft smile in return. “Come and see.”
He held out her mug of tea and nodded toward the window. Abby’s face screwed up in confusion for just a second, before she fought a glimpse of the outdoors and practically leaped out of bed, hurrying over to stand next to him. “It snowed!”
Marcus had been right. Abby’s entire face had lit up, her eyes shining as she gratefully accepted the tea. Standing there in his t-shirt and the sweatpants she’d slept in, watching Octavia pelt Clarke with her brother’s snowballs and Raven laughing at her girlfriends, Marcus realized that this was something that was never going to go away. He was in love, and there was nothing to do about it now.
The realization didn’t scare him. He just smiled, and wrapped an arm around Abby’s waist as the two of them watched their kids play in the snow.
