Have you heard about the new Apothecary of Night Raven College? They said that the Apothecary, Claudine is kinda apethetic.

Claudine grew up with the belief that he had to stay away from any incoming troubles, attempting really hard to distance himself from the lively chaotic atmosphere of Night Raven College. He only put his hands in when 'the troubles' implied him too, which happens quite a lot.

Actually, when the students met him, he was known for being very kind and.. clumsy.

Due to this clumsiness, the guy often messes up the potions that he gives to his patients, for instance: Mixing a pain-reducing potion as another one that upgrading their pains. Some said this may be a facade, for they once volunteered as Claudine's test subjects and it went.. good suprisingly.

Accepting the invitation, Claudine tries really hard not to sound judgemental. And falls amazingly. He couldn't really not to say his mind out, even if that hurts people in the process.

As a result of this, Claudine was presented as some old hag who kept scolding them despise making the same mistake. A man who's obssessed on some ordinary herbs.

He isn't, really. Yet he couldn't convey that out.

He just want to learn everything about herbs and potions, helping the in-need. The Apothecary tends to suprise everyone with his medical knowledges, one can even say that he's a Medi-Witch!

Although he can't understant the affections lovers gave to eachothers, but it's fine. He won't say that outloud, never will.

To his father, it was not being able to differ human faces normally.

To him, it was not being able to distinguish human emotions.

How do you think Claudine meeting Quasimodo would go? (Feel free to insert your OC Cedric, although only if you'd like; I wonder how he would react to meeting Quasimodo too.;) )

You know, I never really thought about it until now.

I feel like with Claudine, she and Quasimodo would find a type of kinship. Yes, Frollo treated them differently, but at the same time there were similarities, all the way down to having them live in bell towers. He made them rely on him, be scared to go against his word, isolate them to pretty much only interact with him, etc. So I really think Claudine and Quasi get along well. And hugs, there will be many hugs involved in their eventual friendship. (Also, I can definitely see Quasi treating Claudine like a little sister, or even a daughter)

And when it comes to his appearance, Claudine isn't phased. For one she lives on the Isle, and two; even though Frollo once told her that Quasi is a monster, she never believed it because she knows monsters and Quasimodo isn't one. She tells him that as well, when he asks, because she's Frollo's daughter and he had to know.

I'm happy to include Cedric!

With Cedric it would be a little different. He's Frollo's son, and Frollo treated him differently than both Claudine and Quasimodo. Depending on where he is in his own arc depends on how he'd treat Quasi. On the one hand, he could treat him with shame due to Quasi's appearance. According to his father's teaching, that mean's that Quasi has been "cursed" and is a "lesser person". But, he'd also treat him better than anyone with magic, such as Mal or Uma.

But, depending on where he is in his arc, him meeting Quasimodo would be an eye opener to him. Because Quasimodo is a kind person, nothing like he thought he'd be, nothing like Frollo said he'd be. He'd like Quasi, even if he doesn't know he should admit it.

In both cases Quasimodo would know that Cedric is uncomfortable. In the first scenario, it makes him uncomfortable and want out of the situation, and possibly angry as well. In the second scenario I can see him being more open to getting to know Cedric, and discussing his own experience of breaking away from Frollo's teachings.

descendants au where the core four plus some others are sent to auradon. they all have the same plan (get the other vks off the isle) but go about it in wildly different ways. there is no communication among them. (also they have foster families but that’s besides the point)

mal, being maleficent’s daughter (2014 maleficent) is a protector. and not above cursing people to get her way. she’s staying with mulan and shang, so maybe she learns a less violent way to protect people, but it’s also enforced in her to do what’s right. while she’s encouraged to just try to fit in, she knows from her mother that sometimes you can’t blend in. currently, her plan is to intimidate ben into listening to her. it may or may not be working.

evie is also not above cursing people, though she prefers to charm them first. or manipulate them. staying with snow white doesn’t help at all, surprisingly. though maybe she stops caring about her looks so much. anyway, she’s a healer, so with every chance she gets she’s ranting to whoever will listen about how bad healthcare is on the isle. it may get disgusting sometimes, but hey, it’s working. ben insisted they send better medicine on the next boat.

jay has magic, because jafar was a sorcerer when he was sent to the isle. with the barrier, he may not be at his full potential, but hey, it’s there. now, jafars scepter is in auradon. jafar tells jay to steal it and sure, okay, he’ll do it, if only so his father will feed him should the whole thing not work out and they’re all sent back to the isle. but then he realizes the scepter would give him more power, and jafar is always lamenting that he’ll never be as powerful as he was. so jay decides to steal it to prove he can be that powerful, and with that power he can liberate the isle. also, he’s staying with aladdin and jasmine. aladdin knows exactly what kind of person jay is, because he was him once too. he guesses jays plan within minutes of meeting him. he says nothing, but when jay is inevitably caught, he makes sure he’s not sent back to the isle.

carlos is happy to just not be his mothers servant, but given he’s staying with cinderella, that’s enough for her to fight for other kids to get off the isle.

isidora, my oc, is the daughter of the queen of hearts/red queen, since i base my headcanons off the live action. anyway, she couldn’t careless about auradon. she doesn’t care about the isle much either. this isn’t because she doesn’t want others off the isle — she does — but her mother is having an affair with time himself, so she knows things will happen when they happen. even if that means she has to bully time into helping her. what she does care about is how many places in wonderland could be turned into homes. she doesn’t exactly have much of a gang, but she does know carlos, and through him she has connections with mal, and mal has a lot of connections, as one of the main leaders of the isle (kinda want to call that alliance the triumvirate tbh). her personal goal may be not getting beheaded by her own mother and working the salon, but she has a sister to look out for, and mal may call on her resources one day. also, she’s staying with alice in wonderland, and let’s just say she fits right in.

claudine was invited off the isle, but she was also smuggled off so her father wouldn’t find out. she’s honestly just happy to be away from him, but she’s also part of the lost revenge, and uma is her captain. technically uma’s orders were to not forget about them, but claudine interpreted that as “get us out of here, if you can”. so she gets close to ben, makes sure he knows exactly what happens to vks. as one of the isle kids with the worst home lives, who better to inform him? her foster family, the de chateaupers, support her on the basis of she exists, and if frollo of all people was allowed to raise another kid, who else was?

how do these plots collide? i don’t actually know yet, except that that’s not all that’s going on, and the isle becomes a war ground at some point.

Chapter 14: Etched in Jet Characters: Claudine, Y'zel Tia Rating: T for Teen Notes: The last word is not a typo

-Sharlayan Settlement 1560-

Claudine swallowed as he heard the sounds of sniffling in the empty study. The room was locked when he came in, and he was rather certain his mentor, Y'lem Tia, had the only other key. Carefully setting tomes down, he looked about, jumping as he heard a hiccup in the dark. 

Fairly certain he didn't sense the aether of specter, logic took hold. Someone was there with him, even if not apparent. Carefully he wandered between desks until his eye caught a pink tail slinking under the farthest table. Walking to the spot, he squatted, finding a young Miqo'te curled up, rubbing his eyes, and sniffling.

"Hey there. How'd you get in here," he asked with a small smile.

The freckled boy jumped as he was talked to. "D-Don't eat me," he begged before trying to scamper away, hitting his head on the table and flattening himself.

Claudine stifled a bit of a laugh before moving chairs to sympathetically check on the boy as he rubbed his forehead, "I'm not going to eat you. I just wanted to know how you got to such a place."

"The key…" whined the little Miqo'te.

"And you're scared I'm going to eat you for stealing it?"

The younger boy shot up, freckled cheeks puffing out in a huff. "I didn't steal it! It's my key!"

"They don't give just give study keys out to little boys."

"They gave one to you!"

"I'm not a- You little!"

Claudine fumed for a moment then calmed himself, forcing a smile at the brat.

"Who gave you the key," the blond finally asked after being locked in a bit of a staring contest.

"My father."

"Oh! Professor Y'lem's boy. You're Y'zel!"

Y'zel nodded, sitting up and looking up to the other. "Mhm…"

"You shouldn't be in here, key or not. What if you got hurt," Claudine offered.

"I can't! I'm doing a bravery test."

"What?"

"Shtola said I couldn't stay in here by myself all day….and I told her I could. She told me a bunch of scary stories though about creatures that come out of the darkness to eat little Miqos before she left."

"Well, that's sounding like she cheated a bit to rile you up."

Y'zel nodded then hunkered back down under the desk. 

"Well, if she asks I'll tell her you were plenty brave given the circumstances…but perhaps I should take you to your father."

Y'zel blinked, staring at the Hyur as his hand was offered. Gingerly, he reached out, taking it and letting the other pull him from his spot. His ears perked suddenly.

"Who is Praxi…Praxithius?"

Claudine shook his head, "I'm uncertain. Did you read about them?"

"You just said it."

"I didn't say anything?"

Y'zel folded his ears back as his companion shook his head in earnest. Offering a smile, Claudine reached out, ruffling the younger boy's hair. "Let's go."

Y'zel nodded, reluctantly following along.

"You'll tell Shtola I stayed the entire night?"

"It wouldn't be right to lie…perhaps a half -truth. You stayed until I forced you out."

"That works I guess. She's a shrew."

"That's not very nice."

"It's not? Father says it means she's perceptive…though disapproves of Uncle Rhul letting her practice with Master Matoya."

"Oh! You meant she's shrewd. A shrew is a small burrowing animal."

"I guess shrewd then…"

Claudine laughed as Y'zel looked away embarrassed, "I believe a bit more work on your vocabulary might go a long way in mitigating some of your cousin's teasing."

"Mit..what?"

"Learn more words," Claudine laughed.

"I read better than a lot of my cousins…big books with several volumes!"

"And you didn't know what a shrew was?"

"I don't read about animals…"

"Then what do you read about?"

"Brave knights and adventures…a lot rescuing princesses from dragons…but I like the ones where it's just the prince and knight and they fall in love better…Shtola says that they're unrealistic though and will give me the wrong impression of what courting is like when I'm grown…"

"Perhaps a bit. I'm too young for that sort of thing myself, but imagine when I am I will be too busy with research to bother with that kind of thing."

"You don't want to live happily ever after?"

Claudine paused, turning to look at Y'zel whose blue eyes had widened, somehow threatening tears.

"I…well, there are other things to worry about."

"That's so sad! Even scholars deserve love! My father is a scholar and all he worries about is his work, but even he found my mother and had me!"

The Hyur blinked, finding Y'zel clinging to his student robes. He offered the boy a pat on the head. "I am not much older than you! As I said, far away from such things! There's no need for you to despair on my half!"

Y'zel sniffled then looked up at the other before his ears perked once more before worried expression turned into horror stricken. Quickly turning, Claudine gathered the other onto his arms then knelt down, shielding the Miqo'te before tilting his head as a Bhoot hovered by, arms outstretched to gently caress his face. The Hyur seized up, scooting back before it could slither around his neck. "Shoo! Off with you," he ordered, finding a discarded book to bounce off its dome body.

Hit, the creature floated back, then continued on, leaving the boys to huddle under the desk. Catching his breath, Claudine checked on Y'zel, the Miqo'te's pink hair on end. 

"Perhaps we've wandered too deep into the library for this hour. Let's just wait until someone wanders by," Claudine offered, trying not to appear as frightened as his companion.

Y'zel nodded meekly, recoiling against the other's chest, content to hunker down shielded by the student's robes. It was not before the two had dozed off together, the boys remaining undisturbed until found later by the Miqo'te's worried father.

-Coerthas, Y'zel's Cabin, Present-

Y'zel tilted his head as he read the letter a second time. Though most likely not his friend's intention, it has struck the more empathetic parts of him. To imagine the Voidsent were nothing more than scared aetheric consciousnesses seeking nourishment, made them seem frightened and in need of care, at least to him.

"Is your friend extending her sabbatical? You look as if you've been quite shaken by that letter," Claudien asked, lowering himself beside Y'zel on their futon.

"No, it's…well," he started before handing over the letter.

"Quite taken with your cousin…and this bit about traversing the Void itself! I really must invite her to dinner sometime and pick her brain…but I'm not parsing the reason you've become so upset."

"The Voidsent…they're…they're just trying to get by…"

"...by sucking the aether out of living beings, yes."

"There's so many things flushed with aether though! I imagine if we just found a way to supply it…" he muses quietly.

"You've got a big heart," Claudine sighed, kissing the Miqo'te's forehead before pulling him down onto his chest, "But…perhaps we wait on your friends to learn more about them before you make a buffet of yourself."

Y'zel puffed his cheeks out then crossed his arms as he rolled away from the other. "I have the Echo. I'm blessed with more aether than I need. Besides…I owe a Voidsent…"

"Pardon? How could you manage that?"

"I was cornered one time in some ruins in Gyr Abania…I had packed light for climbing, all I had was the training scythe my dad had gifted me as a boy."

"Raiden, not Y'lem correct?"

"Yes…Anyroad, I was cornered and when things got too hard to handle it appeared from the stone embedded in the hilt and felled the creatures."

"And you're certain it was a Voidsent?"

Y'zel nodded, "It wasn't if my own aether, and I felt this connection with it. An exchange."

"And since?"

"Well, I was scared after and on my return packed it away…but now I'm worried. It probably has a special connection to me and I've all but severed it."

"...Again, before you find yourself crawling into the nearest void gate, perhaps the scientific method should be involved? Testing. Retesting? I believe there are some resources on this phenomenon available in my department as it was of interest to some aristocrats in Ul'dah or something. Yet, another project added to my people in the wake of the reopened borders."

Y'zel relented and turned back around, nuzzling up under Claudine's arm, pinning his ears under it to dull the man's rant about work as he tried to doze off. As he fell into sleep, one ear perked, catching a familiar voice he couldn't place."Hunger…return…Pretzel…."
