For those who play DnD and Baldur's Gate 3

If you could give companions (and npcs) different classes/subclasses from other sources, what would you give them?

Read bellow

Lae'zel: Battle Master fighter fits her fine but I'd multiclass her with Drakewarden Ranger. Favored enemy? Also a magical dragon pet?

Karlach: Barbarian also fits her, but Juggernaut? Hello? Best for a Barbarian on front lines of a war on higher levels

Shadowheart: First of all, I wouldn't keep her as a cleric, but a paladin. She doesn't have the wise energy that comes with cleric. She's a devotion paladin. BUT if I want to pick a cleric subclass for her, twilight is a cool thing. Not dark as Shar and not light as Selune. She's the middle line. The only trickery cleric I can get behind to work is Jester by Laura Bailey.

Jaheira: Druid is cool, ranger is better (for her) I see her as a resourceful and more dynamic flexible like a ranger is both in utility of a fight and nature. Either Beast master or Primeval Guardian.

Halsin: He's fine where he is. Moon druid is good for him. I thought of giving him Blood hunter order of lycan and have him turn into a were-bear but I think blood hunters are a bit too harsh and aggressive for him.

Gale: Evocation wizard is cool, but for Gale I go for Chronurgy (thanks critical role) Gale wants to fight his goddess one way or another, give him the power to manipulate time. It's something that out of books and he'll fullfil the prodigy type.

Astarion: I thought Blood hunter? But he's not a fit for subclasses. Have a vampire dealing radiant damage is a funny image tho, ngl. But keeping him a rogue, and make him swashbuckler. They're charisma build rogues and he's a charismatic asshole.

Wyll: he's a warlock, his story is a warlock, so fiend pact of blade he stays for me... But! Hear me out. Palock. Paladin warlock. Paladin of redemption. Unless you have him kill karlach then he's Paladin of conquest.

Minsc: ... Gee fuck! He's a challenge for me bc I love rangers and he has the sweet baby barbarian vibe for some reason but he's not a barbarian either. I keep him as he is bc he confuses me.

Dame Aylin: mommy is paladin coded, she's best for Paladin of glory. Or ancient. Have it your way.

Isobel: Cleric of light, sure... Multiclass her with druid of stars

Ketheric Thorm: Paladin of either devotion (bc obv devoted to Myrkul for his debt) or conquest bc of the fear and intimidation he rules with.

Enver Gortash: Yes yes I'm gonna say it... Artificer. Either Mechanism or armorer, but I go far to say he can be a bard too. Bards harness the power of their words, they are jack of all traits, and can have expertise in many tools. It's not a written rule to have all bards as musicians. Lawyers can be bards, artists can be bards.

Orin the red: She's tough for me tbh. To pull tricking and passing as someone else you need high charisma. She doesn't have sorcerer or bard vibe, not rogue or warlock either. Blood hunter (heh) profane soul needs pact with higher entity (Bhaal) and I think this class can suit her. I'm open to criticism on this take.

Durge: I won't choose sorcerer for them. I find gloom stalker Ranger better fit for a serial killer. But sorcery, sure... Evil devine soul and when redeemed durge (spoilers) dies and Withers brings them back, it's up for debate to loose the sorcery or be other subtypes.

Campaign 3 pondering time!

Alright, let’s get crack-a-lackin’, since campaign 2 is drawing closer and closer to a close. The gang’s gonna be getting new characters and that’s gonna be be fun and new in ways we haven’t seen~!

Matt’s obvs the DM.

The setting: My heart wants to say Marquet, ‘cause we only got a taste of that for a few episodes, but that may not be the setting yet.

It’s probably gonna be set a couple of decades after the events of Campaign 2.

As for the players and their characters....

Ashley - I’ve seen people suggest either Bard or Rogue and either option sounds pretty good for her. She gets to step back from the tank role and in either option gets to be a wildcard. On one hand, spells, on the other, knives and stabbing weapons. After the Rumblecusp performances, I feel like she’s gonna go Bard, maybe a Creativity, or Glamour College bard. Though the College of Blades could allow her to enter the fray if she needs to. For a race? Maybe a Dwarf.

Laura - Either Warlock or Barbarian. This may be the time for her to get her charm on to the max and she might call dibs on a Warlock of some kind. If the campaign is set in Marquet, it’d be pretty thematic if she went with a Genie as her patron. Maybe a Pact of The Tome or Chain Warlock. With the latter she gets a few extra spells, while the former allows her a leetl familiar. And Laura loves her animal companions. Alternatively, a Totem Barbarian or a Beast barbarian?! Tabaxi of some kind. It’d be fun.

Liam - After going so magic heavy, I wouldn’t be surprised if Liam tried something more action-y, with maybe some magic thrown in there. I could see him as a Hunter Ranger or a Fighter of some kind. Maybe an Arcane Archer or Eldritch Knight. A Dragonborn of some kind.

Marisha - She’s all monk’d out, so maybe she’ll go back to a spellcaster? A sorcerer. Anything’d work, really. I’d love to see her go Shadow Sorcerer ó w ó Genasi. Any element would work, I think.

Sam - Liam’s totally picking the combination for Sam. Maybe a monk or a wizard of some kind. He was fanboying so much whenever Marisha did anything, so I wouldn’t be surprised if he played something like a Dragon Monk?! Alternatively, an Evocation or Conjuration Wizard. Totes a small race. Kobold or dwarf???

Taliesin - Taliesin could be anything. Like, maybe he goes for a Barbarian or a Fighter of some kind?! Picture Taliesin as a Juggernaut or the like. It’d be great. Though I could also see him go back to a builder of some kind. So an Artificer would be great. Alchemist or maybe Armorer ó A ó!!! Maybe an Elf. Or a Yuan-Ti?! I think it’s gonna be a race with Darkvision

Travis - A full caster. Maybe a druid of some kind. Spores, Stars, Dreams?! So many options. It’s just a matter of getting there. Dude,maybe a Tortle?!

im DMing an online eberron campaign now, and at last, the whole gang is together and i can finally post my drawings of them all!!

i love them all very very much theyre very good in my entirely unbiased opinion, here they are, from left to right:

@aladywholayswithmaidens‘ Quartzite the rock gnome sorcerer who loves fire in all forms, mundane or magical, and also owns a huge mastiff named kitty (not pictured, but maybe one day). shes a beautiful flaming dorito who just wants Adventure.

@grandmafftarkin‘s Bramble the halfling paladin, intelligence of six, definitely knows what she’s doing, is most decidedly an aesthete, and loves the smashy smashy of both planes of existence and her warhammer smushing evil rats to the floor.

@tamaslin‘s Iago, tiefling druid, both mysterious and awkward at the same time, somehow, magically. they’re not super knowledgeable about the world around, but they’re curious to find out! iago and quartzite are also the Cool Poncho Squad.

@flarechaser‘s Chalcedony, cat girl shifter bloodhunter with the floofiest tail in all of the land. kind of quiet and serious-looking, but also she immediately bought a hat (with a matching hat pin) and a bunch of fabric in the first two days of the campaign.

@kittengrantaire‘s Miro the halfling rogue, with his cheeky crooked grin and deck of cards and definitely nothing shady going on here, never, why would you think such a thing, he’s just here to have a good time.

@lesbianomens‘ Zhankei the half-orc bounty hunter bard, fashion over function, always, a rat tore a hole in her coat and she immediately obtained supplies to fix any future issues of any of her wardrobe. her hat and general sparkliness (or perhaps just luck of the dice) causes her to always have terrible perception, cant see anything, but shes Very Charming.

@hamlinart‘s Nice (very nice), drow ranger, also very fashionable, very about the Aesthetic, especially his matching pink accessories. Has an intricate metal magic/tech combo prosthetic arm and a wolf companion named Fancy.

i wanna say so much more about all of them, but obvs its still early campaign days, so it’s all a lot of secret backstories, but i hope this at least gives an idea of them! and if feel like a proud DM parent showing everyone photos of my children, even though i guess technically they’re my players’ children.

Help. I’m thinking about Homestuck characters as DnD PCs.

John: Storm Sorcerer because obvs

Jade: I really want her to be Lycan Bloodhunter, but that’s not in the base game, so I guess Monster Slayer Rogue?

Dave: Eldritch Knight. C’mon. (also dnd doesn’t have a great variety of time travel powers so)

Rose: definitely some kind of warlock. Probably Great Old One. But her powers would manifest as light-based just because her patron thinks it’s funny. Maybe she multiclasses as a divination wizard?

Jane: Cleric of Life. So original. Wow.

Jake: Rogue scout

Dirk: Fighter Kensei with some Magic Initiate feats

Roxy: I’m honestly stuck between Arcane Trickster and Open Hand Monk. halp

Aradia: Grave Cleric because everything about grave cleric is perfect for her (it’s not because I’m an aries and grave cleric is my fav class really)

Tavros: Druid circle of the Shepherd

Sollux: Either evocation wizard or, if it ever comes out, some form of psionic because really

Karkat: Battle Master Fighter. Bossing people around during fighting? u h yeah

Nepeta: Hunter Ranger

Kanaya: this is kind of odd but Bard of Glamour because that fae appearance

Terezi: Oath of Vengeance Paladin. (Alternatively, a silver dragon. because shut up)

Vriska: Rogue Swashbuckler with the Magic Initiate feat

Equius: probably Barbarian but he would be very confused about it

Gamzee: i. i don’t know. i want to say bard of whispers because creepy but

Eridan: Arcane Archer Fighter

Feferi: Either Cleric of Life or Bard of Valor. Probably the former, but she does inspire people.

Oh gosh I didn't notice you said you were up for talking about the AU, I'm blind af sometimes. I love thinking about the way the whole team could work together in that kind of setting - are they bounty hunters? Do they know each other at all? maybe they're the cliche group of adventurers, thrown together by fate - or maybe they all happen to work for the same lord (Or lady, the admin?) as their personal guards. They could still be mercs! It's simple but the dynamics seem so cool to me

//if we’re talking about the canon mercs, it would probably be something like--they each kinda get a class that fits them (like spy and scout are both rogues but spy’s subclass is assassin while scout’s subclass is... scout... or something... and i guess sniper would also qualify as a rogue, but his subclass is tracker/ranger or something of that sort?). And obv medic would be a cleric that’s kinda a no brainer some of the other classes are harder like would demo be a demoknight or a gunslinger-type who uses explosives? and engineer would probably be a uh... well if we ignore the robot shit he could be a druid or something who makes artillery plants--??? clearly im pulling shit out of my ass but thats how i think the gist of it would be
