Sooo update: I’m gonna be slowly transitioning this blog to a personal. It’s the main blog for basically all the side blogs I use for other stuff (art, etc) so there will be a lot of changes around here. I’m gonna keep the url bc I think it’s funny but otherwise everything else is gonna be changing.

Wow I noticed that despite my inactivity and the previous announcement, I’m still getting followers, so I’m just gonna remind everyone:

This blog is on hiatus. I won’t be posting any more ic stuff here in the foreseeable future. You can follow me @allthepandasintheworld or allthepanda5 on Instagram if you wanna keep up with my artwork but I’m not writing rene (publicly) anymore. Like I mentioned in my previous hiatus post if people want to discuss threads on discord, I’m sorta? Open? But I’m busy running art events and job searching, and writing is pretty bottom of the pile stuff in terms of priorities for me nowadays.

He’s like a damn horcrux, like I can’t describe him as family, friend, or whatever? He’s a piece of my soul now like a part of my personality, that’s why even though I’m almost never writing as him anymore (which is my fault entirely, I know full well I have Many drafts and DMs to get to, I just,, haven’t been able to get myself to write anything substantial outside of the odd ficlet)

//drawing him (traditionally anyway) is as easy as breathing. When I’m at a loss of what to draw, I draw Rene. When I need a quick character for a class, I use Rene. I can draw Rene’s hair better than I can draw Standard Anime Boy Hair and I think that’s like an award worthy achievement lmao

A shot rang out, far too close to Rene for his comfort, but he pressed on. He wasn’t sure if he was shot or not, but since his momentum continued, he assumed he wasn’t. He felt his body connect with another, and powered on, shoulders first. His ears were ringing though, and as a result he stumbled almost right into the fist that cane flying out of the smoke.

A jumbled curse rattled out of his mouth before he regained his bearings again, rolling back onto his feet as he fumbled around in the smoky corridor. Rene knew he’d feel those bruises later, but right now, adrenaline was keeping him going. Distantly in the back of his mind, he counted the seconds it would take for the adrenaline to give way to exhaustion, and he figured he had long enough to escape before his body caught up to him. He didn’t bother fighting back, instead using his (slightly) better vision to dart into the smoky hallway outside the office, making a beeline for the elevator shaft on the other end. Of course, the elevator itself was useless to him. He’d be long captured before the carriage showed up. No, he was going to use the service shaft next to it to escape. There were many maintenance routes that workers could take to get in and out of the elevator shaft, which made for the perfect escape route, especially in the smoke. Not only that, even if he couldn’t escape from the building, he could find some shadowy nook to hide in until the heat cools down a little around the building, and he could make a stealthier escape.

For good measure, Rene slipped one of his last smoke bombs from his belt and rolled it on the ground a short distance ahead of himself. It would blow almost as soon as he passed by it. The air conditioning units were on full blast, and dissipating the smoke faster than Rene would like. If the agent pursuing him got a good look at where he was headed, he might call for backup. Where there was one agent, there would be many to follow, that much Rene knew.

There was certainly someone in here, that was no doubt. But the longer it took for any response to come to his call, the more uneasy Benji began to feel. If the presence in this room had been a hostage, they would have certainly made themselves known somehow by now. In the absence of any sound, however, it only served to tell the agent one thing. 

Enemy. 

Hand still holding the gun tightly, he stepped a little further into the room and flinched as the sound of the air conditioning turning on above his head. At that very moment, there was the almost distant sound of footsteps rushing towards him, and he turned to see a masked figure rushing him just in time. He aimed his gun and pulled the trigger, however the two bodies collided and caused his bullet to burst through the ceiling tiles. 

He hit the ground with a small thud and he groaned, feeling the gun slip from his grasp and slide across the ground. But he was hardly nothing without his weapon and Benji immediately moved, throwing out a fist towards the stranger. This was for sure the man he had been looking for, and he was not about to let him get away.

Splitting up was never a good idea. Ever.

But it didn’t matter how much he tried to protest, how much he attempted to suggest that sticking together was safer, his words fell on deaf ears and, well, now here he was.

There were multiple hostages still left in the building after the smoke bombs went off and he couldn’t be sure just how many were left. Some had fled, others hid, and it was their job to both find as many innocent people as possible while also searching for the explosive that was set to detonate within the next fifteen minutes. Which would be easy if the building wasn’t twelve stories high.

Hearing a noise coming from one of the nearby offices, Benji slowly rounded the corner and stepped inside, gun at the ready for any potential threat that might be there.

“Is anyone in here?” The smoke was still thick inside the room, but he could just about make out the shape of a person, moving around inside. “Hello?”

Rene never intended on letting the situation get this bad. It was supposed to be a run-of-the-mill get in, get out type of job. Sneak in, get the USB drive, then sneak out, with the occupants of the building none the wiser. But no, someone had to take an unexpected bathroom break and just so happen to catch him dropping silently out of a vent onto the carpet of the fifth floor. Then, there just happened to be an alarm nearby for this unlucky onlooker to press. Rene hated having to kill witnesses. It was so messy. But he had no choice in this case–he couldn’t afford for any identifying information to get out about him. 

Two near-silent shots and one dead witness later, Rene found himself forced to run deeper into the office building. There were several spy agencies across Europe which were after him–he could hear the sirens outside already, and the unmistakable sounds of agents and local officers mobilizing in the street outside. Messy. Rene darted deeper into the building, away from the windows, searching for an exit. It didn’t take long for him to sequester himself inside a block of offices. He already had the layout of the building mostly memorized–he knew which direction he needed to run to get out. Unfortunately, he’d have to lose the investigators inside the building first. He quickly donned a pair of goggles over his mask–it would help with visibility–before detonating a smoke bomb at each entrance into that office block. 

Rene didn’t have to wait long before he heard the sound of an agent searching through the dense smoke. He stayed frozen for one heart pounding second, trying to decide what to do. The agent now stood silhouetted in the door–a thin man, slightly shorter than Rene, holding what looked like a law enforcement standard-issue handgun–calling for a response that wouldn’t come. Rene didn’t have much of a choice. He had been seen, and the only way out was forward.

He took advantage of a sudden shift in the smoke (someone must have turned on the air conditioning) to make a swift, near-silent dash for the door, aiming to shove past the agent standing in his way.

Just bc it’s sad doesn’t automatically make it deep, rene’s had enough sad in his life, he deserves some lighthearted funnies, and i deserve them too

//i have like a really really major hankering for a frozen AU like i talked with alois mun about it for a little bit but it’s been living rent free in my head for like… 2 weeks now lmao (esp with all those cool dresses ive been doodling, bc those all fit into that specific AU), but like if we threw out all the dumb shit that di/sney does with their characters and plots lol so no more trolls, no weird inconsistent betrayal plot point, etc, unless it’s like,, something you feel inspired by, then we can like talk about it?? bc i really like everything to do with this world, except the fact that it was written by disney who have no idea how to actually write women’s empowerment lmao anyways

//rene doesn’t hurt someone else, he ends up hurting himself with his own powers (thus creating his signature streaky hair, which are brighter silver in this AU instead of the more blended greys of his usual hair color). He also scars his hands, which is the main reason why he wears gloves (which i always seem to forget whenever i draw him in dresses, ugh).

//his storyline is also very much about freedom of expression, but taking on a more ‘identity’ route (i guess more like frozen 2). I also just… a lot of random fun headcanons about him

//he looks even more like a corpse than usual in this AU, bc he’s literally frozen, like the reason why he doesn’t feel coldness is bc his body is basically always at 0C or below. He can be warmed up by external sources, but he doesn’t provide his own heat (kinda like a reptile lmaoo cold blooded or some magic thing blah blah blah). When he blushes, his skin starts to look like a regular healthy human being’s. If he’s outside in the cold for a long time, he can start to look a bit like a walking corpse–his bad joints are a result of being so cold all the time and also not really doing self care or anything. Hot baths are a nightmare, he might melt.

//he’s also very cold to the touch (another reason why his primary design will probably have him wearing long sleeves, gloves, long pants, etc etc, all buttoned up and stuff, to prevent people from touching him directly). If it’s warm and humid he’d probably form condensation on his skin lmaoooo and he can freeze people with a touch, if he’s consciously doing it.

//also like i feel like he wouldn’t just wander into a forest and create a giant castle, he’s too much of a disaster for that, he’d wander into a forest, stumble into a river or like do other clumsy shit bc he’s a spoiled rich boy who has never run or climbed or done any mountaineering for a single minute in his whole life, climb out, walk another short distance, then fall asleep next to a log, and the next day someone finds him and thinks he’s a corpse, goes to investigate, wakes him up, and he freaks them the fuck out bc the person who discovered him thought he was dead (this just,, idk im just very attached to this idea bc i think it’s funny ghasdlkfjhsl like rene sleeping peacefully, looking like a very run of the mill frozen corpse, then suddenly standing up amidst the cracking and creaking of a thousand old man joints and also the ice that formed on him while he was asleep). By the end he’d probably not look the best, like torn clothes (even if he magicked himself a new outfit), matted hair, skeletal looking thinness, discolored skin, etc, y’know, like the ice witch that elsa was supposed to look like, before they decided to make her more marketable and gave her eyeliner and makeup and shit
