Unwanted Attention
Bayverse!Leonardo x reader
Tumblr media
The boys have brought you along for a party at the NYPD headquarters, where a police woman finds your crush, Leonardo, very interesting. Leo on the other hand is not interested and turns to you for help.
Warnings: Spelling and an annoying police woman that doesn't understand no.
All characters are at least 21.
----------------------------------
The atmosphere at the NYPD headquarters was vibrant, filled with laughter and cheers. Drinks were served along with snacks, and a table where everyone was free to serve themself. It was police chief Vincent’s idea, as a way to celebrate the new partnership between the NYPD and the mutant turtles. It also served as a way to celebrate the defeat of Kraang, and to let the rest of the department meet the four turtle brothers that had saved New York City once again.
The brothers, not sure what to do with so many humans around them, had invited you, April, Caesy and Vern. They insisted that the four of you had as much to do with the saving of New York City, yet they failed to remember that it was them that came up with a plan and guided everybody through it.
Yet there you were at the NYPD headquarters, with a drink in hand chatting and laughing with the people around you. Raphael was having a conversation with Caesy about motorbikes, Donatello, April and police chief Vincent was talking about something techy, while Vern and Michelangelo was trying to see who could drink their drinks the fastest. You had been standing with Leonardo and a policeman, talking about your experiences during the Kraang invasion.
As the three of you spoke, you couldn’t help but throw glances in Leo’s direction. You had known him for two years now, and you couldn’t deny your growing feelings for the leader in blue. Especially not after the ordeal that was the Kraang invasion. There was just something about him that drew you in - his confidence, his leadership, his unwavering dedication. And his eyes. Those pretty blue eyes that made your stomach tingle. But little did you know that Leonardo harbored feelings for you as well, just as you secretly held a crush on him. He had been aware of these growing feelings ever since April pulled you to the roof where they had asked her to meet them so they could bring her to Master Splinter.
As the night unfolded, Leonardo found himself trying to enjoy the celebration, but he couldn't shake the feeling of being watched. And it wasn’t your beautiful eyes looking at him every once in a while. No, it was some new strange eyes on him. Unknown eyes. Glancing around, his eyes met those of a police woman, her gaze intense and determined. Curiosity piqued, she made her way through the crowd until she stood beside him, right next to the police man. You saw her as she came over, a nauseating feeling growing in your stomach. You did not like the way she looked at Leonardo.
"Leonardo, right?" she asked with a coy smile, her voice carrying a subtle flirtation.
Leo nodded, a bit caught off guard, slightly fidgeting with the glass in his hand. "Yeah, that's me. Can I help you with something?"
The police woman leaned in slightly, her eyes locking onto his. Leo leaned away, clearly not expecting it. "I couldn't help but notice you from across the room. A fearless leader, I presume?"
Leonardo chuckled nervously, his eyes darting around the room. "I don't know about fearless, heh. We just do what we can to keep the city safe".
She playfully twirled a strand of hair with a smug smile. You wanted to yank her hair to whip that smile off of her face. "Well, a brave man deserves a reward. How about another drink, or maybe a dance, Leonardo?"
Leo hesitated, glancing around as he searched for a polite way to decline. You could see the “nope” written across his face. "I- I appreciate the offer, but I'm here with my brothers and my best friends… Maybe some other time?"
She didn't seem deterred, stepping closer. You were getting mildly shocked. Wasn’r she supposed to be a police officer? "Come on, Leo. We're here to celebrate. Loosen up a little".
Leo felt the awkward tension, realizing he needed a way out of this encounter. That's when he remembered you stood by his side. He turned to you, catching your eye briefly.
"(Y/N)... Babe?", Leonardo said, trying to keep his tone casual as he turned to his friend, noticing your surprised look at the sudden nickname. "We have plans later tonight, don’t we?"
You stared at him for a second, heart skipping a beat when you suddenly realized what was happening. The urgency in his eyes and the way she started to look at you in confusion. The police man the two of you had been talking to looked even more confused by the sudden change in your demeanor. "Yeah, we agreed not to go home too late, since we have that thing with your dad tomorrow".
“I knew there was something”, Leonardo said, acting relieved, before placing a hand on your back, making your knees go a little weak. “Thank you for reminding me, babe. I don’t know what I would do without you”. That’s when Leo pulled you close and placed a kiss on your forehead. You could feel your knees buckle and your head spin as he turned to the woman, and told her he couldn’t go out for a drink or a dance.
That was when she finally took the hint and left, you and Leo watching to make sure she wouldn’t be back. Once she was gone for good, you and Leo let out a sigh of relief, turning back to continue your conversation with the police officer, only to realize he had left, leaving the two of you alone.
You turned to Leonardo with a teasing smile, and smacked him gently on his strong bicep. "You know, you owe me for saving you back there".
Leo chuckled, rubbing his arm as if you had actually hurt him. "I owe you big time, (Y/N). Thanks for being my fake girlfriend".
Your heart warmed and broke at the same time. The word “girlfriend” brought you happiness, but the word “fake” tore it apart. Yet you had thought that was it. That Leo would take a step back and leave you alone. But he didn’t. The rest of the night Leo stayed close to your side, placing a hand on or around you every once in a while. You thought it was because he caught a glance of the police woman or something, and therefore you didn’t think much more about it.
As the night continued one, the two of you found a quieter spot away from the crowd. It was down one of the hallways from the big area the main body of the part was held in. Here the light was dim, with an empty couch with space for the two of you. You took a seat, laughing at a really bad joke Leo had told you. It was nothing new. Every once in a while Leo would make you laugh with his dry humor, to the point where you would be in tears.
“You can’t say stuff like that Leo”, you laughed, drawing away the tears that had formed in your eyes. “We’re surrounded by police”.
Leonardo smiled as you laughed, feeling his heart beat a little faster. He looked into your eyes with a warmth that went beyond their charade. It was a look that made your laughter quite down, feeling excitement and nervousness grow in your stomach. Leo’s eyes just had this power over you, that you couldn’t explain.
"I have something to confess," Leo began, his tone serious yet sincere, causing your breath to hitch for a moment. Leo fidgeted with his hands, looking at them instead of your eyes now. "(Y/N), I... It’s really not easy to say, but I think it’s about time. I… I've had feelings for you for quite a long time now. I just didn't know how to tell you, at least until now". Leo swallowed a lump, still not looking you in your eyes. “When you played my fake girlfriend I realized… how badly I really want to. I mean, how badly I want you to be my real girlfriend. I know it’s strange, but I just couldn’t do this without telling you”.
Your eyes widened in surprise, and a blush crept onto your cheeks as you felt your smile growing big and bright. "Really?”. The happiness in your voice made Leo look up at you. “Because I've kinda had a crush on you too for some time now".
Leonardo smiled, a mix of relief and happiness crossing his face. He breathed out a sigh of relief, his head working to find a way to answer you. "Well, I'm glad I'm not the only one".
You both chuckled, unsure of what to say or do. You cursed yourself for being so awkward, and Leo yelled at himself for being so nervous around you, even after he had fought an alien from another dimension.
Then Leo finally asked. “(Y/N)? Can I kiss you?”
You could only imagine how you looked when you heard his question. “Of course you can Leo”.
The kiss that followed was soft and unsure, yet with a passionate undertone. Leo held you close with a soft hand on your face, as if he was scared he would break you by accident. But once you placed your arms behind his neck and leaned further into him, the kiss ever so slowly turned more and more passionate. Leo’s hands moving from your face to your back, pulling you closer to him.
Who would have thought that some unwanted attention from a flirty police officer, was the push the two of you needed?

the thing people need to realize about Kim kitsuragi is that he's not *actually* hardcore. he tries to be cool but he's too much of a dork to fully commit. he's secretly proud that he smoked "the hemp" a few times in his 20s and is defensive when you say everyone smokes weed. he's got a souped up car that he's decked out in police livery which is possibly the lamest thing ever. imagine a Bugatti with an NYPD logo on it. I don't think this man was actually racing any motorbikes or getting tattoos and piercings and going to hardcore underground gigs in his youth. even as a fresh faced 20yo I think he'd go to a gig, have a single beer, and then stand in the corner frowning bc he disagrees with the anti establishment lyrics. let's be real here. man's a fuckin nerd

BREAKING: NYC Migrant Gang Members ARRESTED And SENTENCED
This is not a joke - we are watching the migrant army building itself right in front of the world. the us allowed them in, without a single background check.
Yet Black people born in america, are summarily racially profiled by their presence, while these gang members have increased crime and put a whole new twist on crime; using the unregistered motorbikes that sit parked outside the migrant shelters - WHY NYPD?
Eric Adams you know exactly what you are doing and Trende Aragua will not be so easy to get rid of this time.

A 12-year-old girl was dragged to the ground by a pair of jewelry-hungry thieves in what has become a growing crime spree by a pair of aggressive robbers in Queens, cops said Sunday.
The young victim was walking home from school on Oct. 24 when the men came riding up from behind her on the sidewalk on a motorbike and grabbed the girl's necklace, video released by police shows.
Pulled down to the pavement by her necklace, the girl was dragged behind the motorbike for several feet before her attackers got away. The attack happened on Layton Street in Elmhurst in the middle of the afternoon.
The duo has caught the attention of the NYPD after terrorizing people across the borough in a series of necklace grabs dating back to that first Oct. theft. Since then, police say the thieves have struck six additional times.
Two days after targeting the 12-year-old, the thieves struck four times in a single day over a roughly six-hour period. The first two grabs of that day occurred within 10 minutes of each other, police said.
In one instance, one of the men punched a 37-year-old woman near 34th Avenue and 103rd Street in their attempt to take her necklace. They weren't successful.
The next day they struck their oldest victim yet, a 70-year-old woman, on 77th Street. Police said again they came from behind and grabbed her necklace from around her neck.
It would be another 11 days before their seventh known theft on Nov. 7. The duo swiped another necklace from a woman walking near Penrod Street and Otis Avenue.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.

This is an example of why quality-of-life and other "trivial" stops can be important in deterring crime, and a reminder of how dangerous these interactions can be for officers.
It would be nice if the NYPD could also be more aggressive interdicting gunrunning into the city. In a fit of pique during the George Floyd demonstrations, police became lax enforcing illegal gun and fireworks laws starting in 2020. Evidently it never occurred to them that those illegal guns might be turned on cops, too.

if you don't mind, could we have a fic rec list where Moira is a character and has a respected role (cherik or otherwise)? I always feel that she deserved so much better and is overly bashed in the fandom when she could honestly be greater
Yes!! I love when people appreciate Moira. She was really done dirty in the films so it's great when a fandom acknowledges that and takes matter into their own hands. I'm sure there are many more fics out there where Moira is appreciated but these are the ones I found. The fandom doesn't have many Moira centric fics out there, but there are plenty where Moira is appreciated. I'm especially a sucker for fics where Moira and Erik are reluctant friends, or begrudgingly respect one another lol. I hope you like these.
Moira appreciation fics
Domestic Disturbance - pocky_slash
Summary: "My wife kicked me out."
Only half of that sentence is a lie, although after the shit Nick's been pulling this week, Moira can't say she doesn't feel the urge to do some kicking.
Still Standing - heyjupiter
Summary: It's been over forty years since the last time Moira MacTaggart saw Raven Darkholme. Now CIA Assistant Director MacTaggart is visiting the mutant terrorist Mystique in her holding cell, hoping to get some information from her about the Brotherhood of Mutants and the so-called "mutant cure." She may get more than she bargained for.
Riding Lessons (The Indian 841 Remix) - heyjupiter
Summary: There's a motorbike in one of the Xavier garages and the person offering lessons is not the person you'd think.
"Oh, come on," she says. "I work for the CIA." Why does everyone always forget that?
Continue Firm and Constant – aesc
Summary: Moira hasn't seen her old partner in saving the world from threats human and intergalactic, Erik Lehnsherr, for a few years. When she finally does see him again, she finds a man different from the one who's been with her down in the dark and the dirt and the blood... or maybe he isn't so different after all.
rooms/shares - pocky_slash
Summary: Erik is single, working a cube job he hates, letting his master's degree in mutant studies collect dust, and living on his best friend's couch. When she kicks him out, he's forced to trawl Craigslist for the least-offensive rooming option within his meagre budget. He never expects a response from the persnickety, high maintenance ad he replies to as a joke, but it's possible this too-nice apartment and mysteriously absent roommate might be the answer to all four of his problems.
No Yesterdays on the Road - pocky_slash
Summary: It's been two months since Cuba and things are settling down for Charles, Erik, and the beginnings of their mutant school. Right up until Charles disappears, that is. Faced with the possibility that a bitter Emma Frost has kidnapped Charles, Erik is forced to team up with Moira to hunt down the remainder of the Hellfire Club. From there, they hope to locate Frost and retrieve Charles, without killing each other along the way.
(Or: Erik and Moira Drive Across the Country and Talk About Their Feelings.)
Unfinished Business - pocky_slash
Summary: It's March of 1963 and Charles Xavier's life seems to be falling into place. Sebastian Shaw is dead and he, Erik, Moira, and their team and young pupils are well on their way to opening their mutant school for fall enrollment.
Everything would be perfect if it wasn't for the childhood nightmares that Charles keeps accidentally projecting to the house, the odd dreams that leave him sleepwalking through corridors that haven't been used in decades, and the children's insistence that the house is haunted by a ghost that roams the halls at night. Erik thinks Charles is seeing things, Moira is afraid that the strange occurrences have something to do with the mysterious man trying to woo her, and Charles just wants proof that it's not all in his head.
Sequel to No Yesterdays on the Road
Rumor Has It - blueink3
Summary: "Did I hear the doorbell earlier?"
"Yeah, but I'd steer clear if I were you. It seemed a little tense. I don't know what's going on, but there's a kid out there who looks freakily like the prof."
Nearly six months after Cuba, Charles' life is turned upside down for the second time. Though he's slowly learning to adapt to the first, he's not sure he can handle the second. Luckily for him, there are a few people out there more than willing to help.
Incy Wincy Spider - Tawabids
Summary: Erik Lehnsherr is a renowned homicide detective, with his husband Charles at home and his partner on the job, Moira MacTaggert. When a twisted serial killer starts targeting mutants, Erik and Moira are the perfect team for the job, especially since Erik himself is the mutant poster-boy of an NYPD trying to improve their image.
But what they don't yet know is that the serial killer is an old soul out of Erik's past, and his next move is to pull Charles into his web.
Handle With Care - pocky_slash
Summary: Moira thinks Erik Lehnsherr is a liability despite his skills and knowledge, but she's not above using Charles Xavier to keep him in check.
Barflys - pocky_slash
Summary: The truth is, Moira really is Erik's only friend. And she does occasionally have good advice. Like when she lets him know the hot guy in the corner booth is definitely checking him out and he should definitely hit that.
Stage Left – Sixthlight
Summary: Young Scottish soprano Moira MacTaggert is a rising star at the New York Metropolitan Opera, tutored by the mysterious Opera Ghost. At least, he would be mysterious...if her childhood friend Charles Xavier didn’t keep pestering her about the brilliant mutant mind he can clearly sense hiding in the opera house, and Moira was too stupid to tell the difference between an Angel of Music and someone hiding behind her mirror.

i'd wait forever and a day for you
summary: post-trying // jake is on an undercover mission and amy thinks she’s pregnant.
(you should read this just for the last line tbh)
Her period is late.
At first, she attributes it to stress. Jake is on a major undercover operation and while she is an incredibly proud, supportive wife, she knows how dangerous the situation is. He’s a great cop -- one of New York’s finest, in both senses of the word (...he’s hot) -- and he was so excited about getting this assignment. And she’s excited for him -- really, she is. But with updates filtering through to Captain Holt at a snail’s pace, it’s impossible not to worry about him, where he is, what he’s doing, whether he’s safe. Her cycle was shot to hell when he was in Witness Protection in Florida and it is entirely possible that history is repeating itself.
Four days pass, Jake is still undercover and her period still has not arrived. She tries to blame Hitchcock’s God-awful Zika cologne disrupting her cycle again until she remembers that both Hitchcock and Scully have been off work all week with food poisoning. She even Googles why is my period late?, quickly closing the tab and deleting her browser history when the first result that pops up is pregnancy.
There’s no way she’s pregnant. She refuses to even consider it for a second.
Despite her absolute certainty that her uterus is as empty as it’s always been, when Rosa invites her for drinks with her new boyfriend, Amy opts for a non-alcoholic beer.
“I’m driving,” she explains at Rosa’s raised eyebrows and swiftly changes the conversation. She finds out that Rosa’s boyfriend is a mechanic and they hit it off when she took her motorbike in for repair. She talks about Jake, about how he’s her favourite person in the entire world and how much she misses him (A Lot). He asks her what it’s like dating a cop and how to deal with the person you love putting themselves in danger every single day, which makes Rosa blush. Amy has never seen her blush before.
“It’s difficult,” she says truthfully. She hates seeing her husband hurting and being thrown in prison for crimes he didn’t commit and having guns pointed at his head. It’s why she instated the short-lived ‘no dating cops’ rule, before Jake kissed her and she decided screw it. “But it’s worth it. When you really love them, it’s worth the pain. Every second.”
“That’s what I thought,” he responds, looking at Rosa the way Jake looks at Amy.
She finishes her drink (which is so not as good as its alcoholic counterpart) and gathers her coat and purse. “I’ll leave you two lovebirds to it. See you Monday,” she directs at Rosa and “it was nice to meet you” at her boyfriend, who she has a feeling might be sticking around for a while.
She opens up her Messages app and types out a full paragraph to Jake about how she met Rosa’s boyfriend before him and how he’s really nice and makes her blush! Rosa Disz!!! Blushing!!! She adds a gif of Jonathan Van Ness saying “can you believe?” and is about to click send when she realises his phone is on his nightstand where he left it before his mission and puts her phone back in her pocket in dismay.
Once home, she gets changed into one of his NYPD t-shirts and climbs straight into bed, crying herself to sleep.
She wakes up bright and early the next morning, a feat that is made significantly easier when there is no super cute husband to snuggle with. She showers, pulls on leggings and one of his plaid shirts and gets started on her Sunday Chores. Dancing around the apartment and pretending the mop is a microphone stand is a lot less fun on her own and she overcompensates, making herself dizzy and throwing up in the toilet she just cleaned.
Without thinking, she finds herself at the bodega on the corner, staring at the selection of pregnancy tests. She grabs three of the safest looking ones and bites her lip when the guy congratulates her as she pays. She’s wasted hundreds of dollars on pregnancy tests thus far and she knows she’s definitely wasting money on these ones too. She doesn’t need congratulating for making poor financial decisions and being bad at making babies, but she thanks him anyway.
Back at the apartment, she dumps the paper bag on the kitchen counter to deal with later. She makes a cup of tea, calls her mom and fills in The Times crossword. The paper bag screams out to her the entire time.
Reluctantly, she removes the boxes from the bag, fully intending to put them away in the back of the bathroom cabinet, out of sight.
A niggling voice tells her to just open one and find out.
She has the box open and the test in her hand when her phone buzzes with a text from Holt informing her that Jake is safe and the mission is going well.
She drops the test like it burnt her skin.
Jake. She can’t do this without him. If she is pregnant, she’d never forgive herself for finding out without him, for stripping him of that moment they’d been dreaming of forever.
She’s waited this long, she can wait a few more days. And she’s probably not pregnant anyway.
She ends up waiting two more weeks.
It’s torture.
She’s throwing up almost daily, crying in the break room for no apparent reason and her damn period has still not come. All symptoms which could be explained away by a lack of Jake Peralta and stress (due to missing the aforementioned Jake Peralta).
Rosa corners her in the ladies bathroom and asks if she wants her to run out for more pregnancy tests.
“I already have some at home.”
“And?” She prompts. “Did you take them? Are you pregnant?”
“I don’t know.” She tries to play it off as no big deal, but Rosa knows her pretty well these days.
“You’ve been trying for nearly a year, there’s a chance you are finally pregnant and you haven’t taken a test?”
“I can’t -- I want to -- Jake --.”
“Oh,” it dawns on her.
“Yeah,” Amy sighs. “I’ve been staring at the tests every night but I just can’t. Not without him.  He’d be devastated.”
“He would not be devastated if you were pregnant, Amy Santiago.”
“You know what I mean. He’d want to be have been there. I want him to be there.”
“I guess he needs to hurry the hell up and catch the bad guys then.”
He must have heard her because, hours later, the elevator door opens and there he is, exhausted and still in his weird undercover clothes, with the biggest smile on his face.
She practically throws herself at him and, yeah, maybe she kisses him in a not-very-work-appropriate way and maybe some of the perps in the holding cell wolf whistle and maybe Charles is crying, but he is home and she can finally take those pregnancy tests.
Holt allows her to clock out early (she makes a mental note to buy him a glass of Charbonnay the next time they go to Shaw’s) and Jake excitedly tells her all about the case, barely taking a second to breathe.
“Sounds fun, babe,” she says when he gets to the part of the story when he handcuffed the bad guys and then made out with this super hot chick in front of all his co-workers.
“It was awesome,” he confirms. “What about you? What have you been up to? I missed you so much.”
“Aw,” she smiles, rubbing her hand over his thigh as he drives, “I missed you so much, too. As for what I’ve been up to, I’ve mostly just been kind of sick.”
“Really?”
“Mm-hmm. I... um... actually think I might be pregnant.”
He swerves suddenly, nearly crashing the car. Ignoring the cars around them honking, he focuses on his wife. “Pregnant?”
“My period is nearly three weeks late, I’ve been throwing up and I’ve been extra emotional,” she debriefs him.
“Right. OK.” He takes a deep breath. “Have you taken a test?”
“I bought three but I couldn’t take them without you. It’s kind of been killing me.”
“Yeah, I bet,” he laughs, pulling over in front of their apartment. Neither of them move. “We should probably take them now.”
“Yeah,” she agrees.
“You nervous?”
“Yeah,” she says again. She’s lost count of how many negative tests they’ve seen, how many times she’s felt that familiar crushing disappointment. The thought of going through it all over again...
“I understand. We can wait, if you want. Or we could rip the band-aid off, let the scab bleed all over the place. I’ll hold your hand.”
There’s this reassuring look in his eyes that she’s seen a million times over from back when they were newly-assigned partners and he was reassuring her they would solve a tough case to that time on the roof of 397 Barton Street when he said he always knew she was going to be his boss to his speech at Hitchcock’s (second) divorce party when he told her that they are a family and that they can take whatever ‘next step’ she wants because as long as they’re together, he’s happy.
Because it’s him, she nods. “Let’s do this.”
The wait for the timer to go off seems longer than ever. She squeezes his hand so tight she thinks she might cut off the circulation, but he doesn’t complain, just keeps talking about how they’ll be fine, no matter what the result.
The timer eventually goes off and she picks up the test and starts crying immediately.
Jake hugs her tight and she can feel him crying too and this is so crazy and insane and good.
“We’re having a baby,” he says in awe and it’s the best thing Amy’s ever heard.
“We’re having a baby!” She repeats, half-laughing, half-crying.
She yelps as he lifts her up and spins her around their tiny bathroom before kissing her tenderly.
“I can’t believe this,” he exclaims when he pulls away, rubbing his hand over his face, “can you?”
“Nope.” She grins, kissing him again.

The so-called "duck saucer killer" accused of gunning down a New York City Chinese food delivery man on his motorbike in April could possibly make bail Monday, according to a report.
Glenn Hirsch, 51, was initially ordered held without bail in connection to the April 30 murder of 45-year-old Zhiwen Yan, who was shot to death on his motorbike at an intersection in the upscale neighborhood of Forest Hills, Queens, while making deliveries for the Great Wall Restaurant.
NYPD waited about a month to build their case before arresting Hirsch on June 2 on a warrant for murder and criminal possession of a loaded firearm at his apartment on 141st St. in Jamaica, where police found a refrigerator stuffed with packets of duck sauce, soy sauce and ketchup, sources told the New York Daily News.
Initially held without bond, court records show Queens Criminal Court Judge Kenneth Holder changed bail conditions on June 8 for Hirsch, setting bond at $500,000.
NYC, SAN FRANCISCO PRIDE PARADE CROWDS PANIC AFTER CONFUSING FIREWORKS, FIGHT FOR GUNFIRE
The newspaper reported that Hirsch’s family has been gathering the money to secure his release and could post bail as soon as Monday if permitted to do so by the presiding judge.
Hirsch, who has 10 prior sealed arrests, has held an "obsessive point of contention" against the Chinese food restaurant in the months prior to Yan’s murder, according to the Queens district attorney.
Detectives had been building a case against Hirsch since last December stemming from several disturbing encounters reported by the restaurant manager that began on Nov. 30, 2021, when Hirsch was allegedly outraged over not receiving enough duck sauce with his meal.
For about an hour prior to Yan’s murder, police said surveillance video showed Hirsch circling the restaurant and then driving his car following Yan before allegedly shooting him to death. Hirsch has pleaded not guilty.
U.S. Rep. Grace Meng, a Democrat representing New York's 6th congressional district in Queens, released a joint statement with other state and city politicians Saturday acknowledging what they described as "deeply troubling" reports that Hirsch may be released on Monday.
They thanked Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz for requesting that Hirsch remain in custody.
"Granting bail would be the wrong decision, and we hope that it does not happen," the statement said. "Someone who is a clear and present danger should not be released back into the community that still grieves Zhiwen Yan’s death. We have been in touch with the 112th Precinct to get assurance that Glenn Hirsch’s weapons have been confiscated and won’t be returned to him if bail is granted, that he won’t be able to legally purchase additional firearms, and that his movements will be closely monitored including a ban on going near the Great Wall Restaurant and its delivery zones."
"But despite these assurances, this rumored and reported development about bail is not welcomed," they added. "It is terrifying and unsettling, and we resolutely oppose it. We will be watching what happens Monday."
Originally from Fuzhou in Eastern China, Yan had worked at the Queens restaurant for more than a decade and was the primary breadwinner for his wife and their three children aged 2, 12 and 14, family members and his grieving widow told local news outlets following his shocking killing.
The incident rocked the once-perceived safe Forest Hills community that has been experiencing a rise in crime.
Yan’s killing was the second homicide in 2022 for the precinct, which had not seen a homicide since 2016. The first was the murder of Orsolya Gaal, a married mother of two whose body was found stuffed in a duffel bag on the street about a half-mile from her home in March. Her handyman and alleged ex-lover was later charged and accused of brutally stabbing her to death for not wanting to resume their affair.
