Ch 15: Making Connections Verse 3

As the group moved through the dark, damp tunnels, they couldn't shake the feeling that they were being watched. Suddenly, they heard the sound of footsteps echoing through the cavernous space, and before they could react, they were surrounded by a group of men in old-fashioned suits and fedoras, each wielding a gun.

"Looks like we've got ourselves some trespassers," one of the men sneered.

Trace stepped forward, holding his hands up in a gesture of surrender. "We're not looking for any trouble," he said calmly. "We're just passing through."

The leader of the group didn't look convinced. "What are you doing down here?" he demanded. "This is our territory, and we don't take kindly to strangers."

Tailor tried to step in, hoping to use his tech skills to diffuse the situation, but before he could say a word, one of the men raised his gun and fired a warning shot into the air. The group flinched, and Erzabet bared her teeth in a warning growl.

"Easy there," Rachelle said, holding up her hands. "We're not here to cause any trouble. We just need to pass through this area to get to our destination."

The men exchanged a look, and for a moment, it seemed like they might let the group go. But then, one of them spoke up.

"You can pass through our territory, all right," he said slowly. "But first, we're going to need something from you."

Erzabet let out a low growl, and Trace shot her a warning look. "What do you want?" he asked, trying to keep his voice calm.

The man stepped forward, a wicked gleam in his eye. "We've been hearing about your group," he said. "We know you've got skills and resources that could be very valuable to us. So we're going to take you back to our boss, and he'll decide what to do with you."

The group exchanged a look of resignation, realizing that they had no choice but to go along with the men. As they were led away, Erzabet muttered under her breath, "This happens every time I go underground. I should have known better."

"It's okay Cassandra...Cass..." Ahri's voice was soft and pleading even as she stumbled upon her friend (!)'s name. In truth it really wasn't all right, but then going off on a bunch of drunks, even though most of them were hot girls, was probably not worth all the trouble.

"Let's just go somewhere else. Your hand..." Ahri tugged on the bottom of Cassandra's jacket as if in warning, even as her eyes swept at the slowly stalking group of rather intimidating looking women gather in closer. "You can't risk your hands..."

Rage fueled the demigoddess. Cassie had always been easy to anger, but it grew at an incontrollable rate when it was one of those she cared for that was harmed. While Ahri tried to stop Cassie, fire already began to light in the female’s hands, flickering with such heat and intensity. There was no stopping her.

“Worry about yourself for once. ” 

It came out harshly, looking over her shoulder as she looked at the other. While she meant well with her words, it never came out right for the witch. And, Cassandra would indulge her desire to beat the women senseless. For the group of four, her rage and incantations managed to take down two, unconscious but alive on the floor. Yet, it is with a hard hit that Cassie hits the ground, only for the bouncers to finally step in.

“Fucking finally.” She grits through her teeth, slowly pulling herself to a sitting position as a small line of blood trickled down the side of her face.
