Madara/Tobirama parallel part 1
Another day, another naruto meta bc im obsessed :
Madara and Hashirama are not true parallels to each other. Madara and Tobirama are.
Now I’m not cheapening Madara and Hashirama’s friendship (or romance, based on interpretation). They indeed loved each other very much, trusted each other (or at least Madara trusted Hashirama), and did agree that peace was a necessity. However, personality-wise, they differed a lot, even as children. Hashirama is the Naruto to Madara’s Sasuke, but Madara is (in Tobirama’s eyes at least) his Gaara, his Obito, his Nagato. Two sides of the same coin.
Let’s take a look at the 4th great war, when the Hokages are ressuscitated and learn about the IT.
This is what Hashirama thinks of it :
Tumblr media
Then Madara takes the time to explain himself to Tobirama, perhaps attempting to strengthen his own resolve, or perhaps to have someone of a similar mind agree and feel less alone and misunderstood (I could write a whole novel about Madara’s loneliness). And that’s what happens. Tobirama agrees to Madara’s views. He shares them. He, too, is disgusted that sacrifice is needed for peace. He, too, doesn’t think Hashirama’s village will bring peace (i’ll develop that in another post). He thinks the IT IS a good idea.
Tumblr media
He’s not agreeing here with Madara just to distract him. He can still distract him by arguing, and the thoughts that follow clearly prove that he isn’t deceiving Madara when he says he is right. He simply refuses to let Madara be the one who brings peace (through IT), bc he doesn’t trust Madara. It’s both pettiness (perhaps bc he blames him for “stealing” his brother) and fear. He is terrified of Madara, and not just because of his power. Why would a man who was Izuna’s equal (Izuna, who was also hailed as being close to Madara in power), and who has the god of shinobi as a brother, be afraid? He showed no fear when he saw Jinchuuriki Obito, who by Hashirama’s own words is more powerful than him.
Tobirama fears Madara because he sees himself in him. He is a ticking bomb, as likely to fall to despair and resort to extreme measures as Madara, and only his insane rules and his repression of his emotions and his over reliance on his brother’s moral compass keep him from becoming him. In that sense, he is hypocritical when he calls the Uchiha unpredictable.
Furthermore, isn’t the IT, in essence, similar to Edo Tensei? A jutsu that transcends time and death, in the hope of bringing loved ones gone too soon back to Madara/Tobirama? Tobirama, by creating the Edo Tensei, showed that his thought process was the same as Madara. He refused to accept reality. Not only that, but it’s implied in canon that Madara intimately knew Edo Tensei when it was being invented. Those two men sat together, at some point, despite the hate between them, and discussed the jutsu. Agreed on it, perhaps. But it didn’t work, and Tobirama shelved it (*cough* as quickly as Madara shelved Konoha *cough*).
Their core values are the same, and they are both deeply pessimistic about the world around them. Personality-wise, they’re extremely similar. Loud, ambitious, paranoid, distrustful, goofy, caring, misunderstood geniuses. Both won’t back down from their goals, no matter what. Even physically, they share some similarities, with their spiky hair and red eyes and delicate, pointy faces. I said it before and I’ll say it again : it is tragic that the war made these two enemies, because the potential for them to be great friends was right there.
Anyway, the Tobi = Tobirama theory we had going back in the days is very much possible in fanfic. Akatsuki!Tobirama was one bad day away from being canon and I won’t change my mind.

i know that disney is too big to boycott effectively but that shouldn't translate to "and so we should keep buying their products like normal" but rather "at the very least we should try"

"Confession Time, I used to dislike Ellie Rose. Scandalous I know. A lot of my reasoning was that I didn’t like how she was boiled down very early in the fandom as Henry’s romantic interest in THSC. As the was in tiredly untrue but it didn’t help a lot when everyone talked about Ellie it was if she was an extension of Henry, his girlfriend if you will. I enjoy Ellie Rose now but even when I was doing Ellie Rose week I felt very disconnected with her character. Probably will revisit her again to try and mend my opinion on her. Till then I am alway sadden and disappointed with how I cannot stop seeing her only through Henry as his ‘plus one’ or ‘partner in crime’." submitted by @howlerlight

i think a lot about if jade would ever have been able to live a normal life.
had the kids never played sburb, what would’ve happened to jade? does she have citizenship anywhere? does she have a passport? does she have a birth certificate? if she ever got off the island, does she have any proof at all that she exists?
if she doesn’t and can’t get any, would she just stay on her island? would she die there, without ever being near a human other than her grandfather? would she die there, a distant memory of her childhood friends, who’ve long since grown up and joined society and no longer had time for her? would it be as if she’d never existed at all?
if she does get off the island and is able to join human society, would she even like it?
she grew up alone, aside from bec. she’s smart and curious, so she probably would want to go to university so she could do research. would she be able to live in a city packed with people people people and bricks and concrete and air pollution? would she learn that her social battery is a lot shorter than she thought, that the concrete and brick is colder than she thought, that even the air is more foreign to her lungs than she thought it would be? would she feel suffocated?
she grew up with bec constantly by her side, but many places dont allow dogs. would she feel separation anxiety? would she feel more alone than she ever thought possible, amidst more people she ever experienced in all years of her life combined?
would she return to her island? would she die there, lonely again but content but hungry for something she can’t stand? would she be remembered by her peers and professors? or would they, too, with time, forget her? would it be like she’d never left the island at all? would it be as if she’d never existed at all?

my own interpretation of neverafter is that its less about disney/capitalism/etc but more about the idea of storytelling. its abt themes of power & control, personhood & identity, childhood & change - and how those themes relate to the concept of narratives.
like - what does it mean to tell stories, preserve stories and to be a character within a story? how can narratives act as a force of happiness and violence? i think theres something really interesting about the times of shadow - that it corrupts these original happy endings, but eventually reveals how 'corrupted' they were from the start. that perhaps "things going wrong" is just the natural progression of the thematic core of these stories.

Your tags about charlie poisoning dee and frank compel me to mention that everytime someone mentions “dennis is a serial killer” near me I want to respond with “It’s more likely quick to anger and prone to rash decision making and holding grudges Charlie with his in depth knowledge of the sewer sytems and off the grid living would be a more prolific serial killer.”
NO STOP I . LITERALLY NO JOKE THAT IS MY EXACT SAME THOUGHT PROCESS LMAOOOOO-
CHARLIE BEING A SERIAL KILLER IS SO MUCH MORE FUN TO PLAY WITH. Like its ALL these little things in canon- HIS KNOWLEDGE OF THE SEWER SYSTEMS/LIVING OFF THE GRID YESSS, his comment about Jamie Nelson drowning being said with what seems like... fondness???, the "Bad Room", his writing The Nightman Cometh all as a scheme to try n pressure the Waitress into accepting his proposal by making a play that's like "see i had a bad childhood so u should just forgive me for everything! im not so bad after all!!", the fact that his job requires him to slip into a dissociative state in order to constantly mercilessly maim living creatures that he canonically resonates/identifies with, his ability to manipulate people with ease in general with his initial charm, the various parallels made between Charlie and characters like Patrick Bateman and Norman Bates and Buffalo Bill....,
like idc i think charlie as a serial killer would be Way more interesting... just think abt Charlie Catches a Leprechaun! he's a natural! and it's so hypnotizing watching the man work that u kinda GO ALONG WITH IT until the rest of the gang snaps us out of it,
also i do think Charlie Day is very smart writing-wise and he'd totally think up a character like this that is a subversion of that "harmless manchild" trope and turn it on its head by giving it a pretty grim ending... like . he's 100% smart enough and talented to pull smth like that off LOL
and i dont want ppl to take this as me trying to trash Charlie, cuz as I just said-- that is an extremely difficult kind of character to pull off!!!! Talk about a slow burn.... I am fuckin praising the man for his writing/performance of Charlie Kelly cuz he is so fucking convoluted and complex n im obsessed and a twist like this would just b the cherry on top
