Just watched Akira and it was so so good but What The Fuck is Going On because I had no clue it would be like that from what i’ve seen people say about it. The general focus I’ve seen before when discussing Akira was “nice retro animation” and “iconic motorcycle slide” but the motorcycle slide happens like 20 minutes in and I was COMPLETELY unprepared for the rest of the movie?? I mean the things I’ve seen about it online are right, the animation is really cool and the bike slide is nice, but I haven’t seen a single image of Tetsuo before watching the movie, you’d think he wasn’t in it? But disregarding my naivety in thinking I’d get an accurate impression of it from what I see online, I really liked it! Theres a LOT going on, but not in a disorganized way. Kaneda was cool and fun, but I also very much got the wrong impression about him, he seemed like he’d be a lot more stoic/serious than he was, and it felt like Tetsuo got equal or more screentime than him, which makes the total lack of Tetsuo i’ve seen pre-movie more confusing to me. The scene with the glass and the toys was probably the most representative of the tone of the movie to me, not the setting or anything, there aren’t any motorcycles or frozen vaults or sci-fi guns until the end of the scene, but the brand of unsettling is consistent with the rest of the movie. Overall, it was odd to watch with the things I’ve heard about it in mind because you can read that it’s rated R for violence, and it isn’t a lie, but the “cyberpunk action” isn’t the most intense aspect of the movie, and the scenes of violence would have a lot less intensity without the context behind them. The movie was also a lot sadder than I thought it would be! The “cyberpunk biker 80s aesthetic” description that I saw before watching it really doesn’t give it a fair summary, I liked it so much more as the real thing than as what I thought it would be, especially in the character writing. Also the sound design/score was amazing, that one fucking song with the breathing noises was absurdly cool.

Hm, I had to figure out how to interpret “comfort character” because, darn it, I have a lot of blorbos crammed into this fangirl heart of mine (I swear, my fangirl heart looks like an absolute CLOWN CAR in more ways than one 😂😉). So let’s go with 5 characters who give me great comfort whenever I write/vid/otherwise think of them. I’ll restrict it to one per fandom to make it interesting. 😛

13. worst blorboficiation Oh, how fun! I think we could do this for almost every listed fandom ^^ In Dark Souls it is probably Gwyndolin and I have to admit, I am not completely free of guilt of this, but I still fully lean into them having daddy issues and wanting the cycle to continue, I just portray them a bit more sympatethic in the matter, as feeling as if this is the only choice, what they were raised for etc etc. But I also see people write Gwyndolin as this innocent baby angel and not as the last child of Gwyn who is kinda behind the plot of the first Dark Souls. There is some pride in Gwyndolin and we should portray them accurately. Or not. Do what you guys want ^^ I just wanted to point stuff out. Hmmm, in Bloodborne... probably Micolash. I see a lot of people kinda... not leaning into Micolash being batshit insane. If you now point at me and say "Little, your Micolash is a quirky shameless innocent boy", that is Byrgenwerth era Micolash who is like 15 years old and hasn't even thought about the atrocities he will commit! I swear, if I would write canon Micolash, he would be a LOT different. I actually should write him. I never tried and he is so interesting! For Hollow Knight it is Grimm imo. He gets flanderized a lot. He is either the gay uncle or ship material but rarely, very rarely is he the Higher Being he is in canon. I admit I write Grimm as a major troll in my own fic, Off Balance, but he still is a god in this, following his own plan from the start. He never agreed to help PK from the good of his heart and while his plan is ultimately for the sake of another one, I still think I did him justice. I hope ^^ Elden Ring. I don't even have to think about it. Mohg and Morgott! Mohg oftentimes feels like his canon gets completely ignored and shoved under the rug (and if you do this, fine, I get the character makes people uncomfy). But I think Morgott is even worse. Yes, I like Morgott as well and I lean fully into his whole self hating and learning to love himself fanon, but... guys, sometimes I feel you forgot that he canonically killed dozens and dozens of Tarnished, had an order under his command that hunted Tarnished and pretty much is NOT a friend to your Tarnished in canon at ALL. Please, lean more into Morgott that is so into the grip of the Golden Order if you try to write him in canon. Okay and now I probably upset a lot of people. These are just my own opinions. You can blorbofy your blorbos as much as you want. I won't and can't stop you. I might just not read your fic or your comic, that is all. Alright, nobody is offended here, right? I am sure guilty of my own blorbofications ^^

25. common fandom complaint that you're sick of hearing Hmmmm... good question. I rarely look at complaints and when it comes to Dark Souls, it isn't a fandom complaint I am sick of hearing, but the "easy mode" crowd. I am not even AGAINST easy modes, but Dark Souls difficulty is so much ingrained into the lore that taking it away would be a really big detriment to the game. For Bloodborne it is easy. Gehrman haters. Please, leave the old man in peace. He chose a fucked up way to grieve someone that he either loved romantically or as a daughter. Canon never does say that he did anything to the doll! If all, the lore implies that he mostly ignores her. Hollow Knight. That PK and Radi are colonizers. Where does that idea even come from?! If you follow the lore, Radi was there first and then PK came and then they had a battle about followers. It wasn't even a bloody battle, nowhere in the lore does it say that countless bugs died or such, it was more so that PK managed to gain more followers and that led to the whole disaster. What they are both guilty of is supressing the void culture, I suppose, but there was also no mention of killing. The whole killing only happened once the infection came into place. Elden Ring. That is also a no-brainer. The whole people who are denying that Mohg is romantically involved with Miquella. If you see it as consentual or non-consentual, Mohg is completely infatuated with Miquella. Nobody who would want to have power would cradle a hand like that and speak that softly. Okay, I think I talked enough ^^ Again, these opinions are my own. If you don't agree with them, that is fine. I am not mad at you. You have a right to have your own opinions and headcanons, even though I don't agree with them.

General Yandere! Kohaku headcanons

Kohaku grew up very sheltered so I wouldn´t be surprised if he has zero experience with love. All he knows about being in love is what he picked up from the internet - the best place to learn important things about life, obviously

Because of this, Kohaku wouldn´t realize his feelings for you for the longest time, nor would he notice that he felt way too intensely for you than what was considered normal

Sometime after meeting you, Kohaku would notice that he starts to feel strange whenever you're around. He feels his heartbeat speed up and he gets nervous when he feels your gaze on him. At the same time, your presence and attention make him so indescribably happy that he can't seem to focus on anything else except your gentle smile directed at him!

He´s usually very sharp-tongued but with you, Kohaku can´t seem to utter even a single harsh word. The thought of you feeling worse about yourself because of something he said is horrifying to him!

As I said, Kohaku grew up completely sheltered, so he really has no idea what these strange feelings mean. Why does he feel so different whenever he is spending time with you?

Deciding that asking his unit mates isn't an option ( god forbid asking Rinne about this, he would rather die!), he goes to ask Aira for advice

After listening to him rant, Aira brightens up and tells him that he must be in love!

Kohaku is shocked but after looking up advice on the internet, he assumes that it must be true. The internet never lies! He's in love with you!

It starts off innocent enough, he likes being in your presence and gets a bit flustered when talking to you. It´s very unlike him and it´s also very noticeable because his cheeks have such a cute pink flush to them whenever you praise him in any way. No doubt he would have harshly scolded anyone else that tried to tease him, but not you. He might complain a bit if you keep it up because he´s so embarrassed but he doesn´t really mean it. He doesn´t want you to stop

 He also gives mean glares to anyone he deems too close to you for comfort. Can´t they see that you´re busy with him and go away? He doesn´t hesitate to show his displeasure, either by verbally lashing out at the offending party or by quietly asking you if you could move to somewhere else where you wouldn´t be interrupted

But it´s really nothing to worry about, Kohaku is just being a bit childish of course! Young love can just be so troublesome sometimes so don´t think about it too much when he starts to get a little bit possessive

But it noticeably gets worse. Much worse

Harsh remarks soon turn into insults. Insults soon turn into actual threats against all the people that constantly swarm around and bother you

Kohaku knows that the world is a bad place and so he feels like he has to protect you from it at all costs. He´s willing to do almost anything for the people he cares about and you, as his dearly beloved, are his top priority. He has to make absolutely sure that nothing happens to you

Which is why I think Kohaku is one of the few yanderes that would murder without any guilt over what they are doing. While others might be scared or horrified because of what they had just done, Kohaku feels no remorse

They had it coming for messing with you, all he did was deliver a swift judgment and get rid of a troublesome person that no one would miss anyway

He doesn´t tell you that he does this, preferring to act in the shadows, but he certainly wouldn´t hide the fact that he is glad that they are gone

Oh, you think it´s horrible that someone so close to you died? Well, they were a bad person anyway so who cares?

He genuinely thinks that this is the right thing to do, that he needs to get rid of anyone that he deems a threat to you and your safety. Kohaku outright refuses to admit that his violent jealousy might have also played a part in his killings and specifically who he went after. He thinks himself way too mature for something like that

If you end up being scared because so many of your friends and people close to keep getting found dead, then Kohaku is more than willing to act as a bodyguard for you. It gives him an excuse to be close to you without secretly following you around town, and you´ll start to see him as strong and reliable, someone that can protect you no matter what happens!

Can´t you see just how much he cares about you? How much he loves you? How he would do absolutely anything for you?

He´ll prove himself, even if it means having to get rid of the competition one by one

not my own ideas at all, i got it from quelaag and her elden ring lore videos but i really really love how often miyazaki takes ideas and tropes from literature and inverts them.

the most common one is bloodbornes ability to both pay respects to hp lovecrafts ideas while also criticizing hp bigotry and xenophobia

in elden ring its not so serious (that im aware of), but still very cool and clever imo. (not accounting for literally any and all of carl jungs psychological theories, this is just for his works in terms of literary analysis and writing)

one of the jungian archetypes is "the beast" which is supposed to represent the choatic and violent part of someone. its angry and wild. but in elden ring, literally every beastman we see, is anything but that. the beastmen in elden ring are devoted, have strong wills and morals, and almost innocent in a way. and its actually the "humans" who end up using them as tools or even abusing or betraying them

blaidd is devotetd to ranni, hes a charismatic and lighthearted beastman whose quick to trust you and happy work alongside you. when the two fingers orders him to kill ranni, his closest friend and master, he is so overcome with grief and defies the two fingers oppressive will so much that it drives him mad and he loses himself. the two fingers are exactly "human" so my comment at the end of the prev paragraph falls apart...

serosh is godfreys close friend, its also serosh who holds back godfreys bloodlust. which is the most on the nose example of how beasts differ from others. serosh is also the one who plays the role as king for godfreys kingdom when he goes out to war. godfrey has a constant desire for bloodlust and violence and its serosh who holds him back and keeps in calm. when godfrey sees that he cant beat the tarnished with serosh holding him back, he resorts to killing serosh

and last is maliketh. everytime we speak with maliketh hes like. ever devoted to marika. you can tell that even in her absence, hes completely loyal to her and would die for her. and we learn through Item Lore later that she actually just used him as a pawn for her own goal and betrayed him, she had him seal the rune of death in himself and then shattered the elden ring. when you speak to him, hes hurt and confused still as to why she would do something like that, despite this, he still fights for her name...

much longer than i wanted and im sure theres technicalities throughout that i missed but this is blorbo posting not an argument essay so take it with a grain of salt

gender in the Locked Tomb is weird in a "not sure whose body that is or what gender the soul inside it was" way; gender in KAY is weird in a "he/him butch will not be clarifying gender further" way

Why do people defend six eared macaque lol I don’t think he actually deserves to have a redemption arc after everything he’s done in monkie kid and the og novel lol.

WATCH OUT BECAUSE I'M ABOUT TO BE MEAN TO A MONKEY ON MAIN but hhhhhh I'm guessing it's partially a result of the current culture-wide obsession with/insistence on redemption arcs no matter what & the way that redemption arcs are increasingly used as a stepping stone to get two characters who hate each other into a romance.

In this particular case I also think Monkie Kid so far only showing Macaque's side of the story in regards to his relationship with Sun Wukong & its depiction of the monkey king as a deeply flawed individual whose actions could easily be interpreted as him just being an unthinking fumbling dumbass who never grew out of his unthinking fumbling dumbass ways also lends itself to fandom-ish tendency to brush aside the bad actions of the blorbo d'jour so that their eventual inclusion into team good guy seems less jarring. Like if Macaque sucks but SWK actually sucks even more then in context Macaque has the moral high ground & as such he can't justifiably be called out for anything by SWK or can't be called out by any other character unless they're also going after the monkey king. And indeed in Monkie Kid we've had SWK get yelled at by many character for being stupid & destructive & I don't remember that ever happening with Macaque outside of Qi Xiaotian's "What's wrong with you?!" after the shadow simian had just uhhhh kidnapped & mind-controlled his loved ones before forcing them to beat up Qi Xiaotian while he watched and laughed (X_X).

I've also seen a number of people argue that Monkie Kid and Journey to the West should be considered two completely different stories and fair enough to some extent (like yea SWK probably shouldn't have the past of smashing tons of humans and yaoguai into "meat patties" in a children's cartoon lol). Buuuuuuut I do suspect that a lot of this stance is about justifying a rewrite so that Macaque could be an innocent monkey before getting involved with SWK rather than dealing with the violence he deliberately chose to inflict on the Mt. Huaguoshan monkeys & SWK himself in the og classic. In addition, I do think that, especially for a western audience, a lot of people simply DON'T KNOW about what the Six Eared Macaque did in Journey to the West. Like I've said before that one of my current favorite parts of being in the online JTTW fandom is seeing people go from "oh people are exaggerating about the monkey king's trauma" to "oh dang actually the monkey really did go through it" after they've read some of Wu Cheng'en's work, but my general sense is that at present many people know about these characters through Monkie Kid more than through Journey to the West, and as such aren't aware of the stuff LEMH pulls or even that his entire thing was making himself SWK's doppelganger in an attempt to murder-replace the monkey king and get all the glory for completing the journey for himself. Any translation of a work often means that a lot of context will be lost, and I think that can be particularly true when you're only aware of/been exposed to a child cartoon manifestation of a character, especially if you don't have access to at least a good translation of the work they originally came from.

ANYWAY those are my general impressions about the matter, and I still maintain that lego show Macaque would be best served by either staying a shifty dude or having a "redemption without forgiveness" narrative arc in which he does decide to become a better person but does so without being forgiven by team monkie for everything he put them through. If anything such an arc might help him start developing into his own character rather than forever remaining the jerk violently obsessed with getting one over the monkey king.

anyway, here's what i think about your milgram ocs!

HARUTO >>>> no really i love him a lot! his design is so 💕💖💞💓💗 he sure is a pretty boy! he's very fun to draw and i like how he actually looks like a guard in that picrew!

now, about his personality. i love how chill and relaxed he is, his personality is like a nice break from those guards who take their job much more seriously (*ahem* es, eiji and miki). it's really cool how he understands that all of this is some kind of experiment too, because again, those guards believe that milgram is always right no matter what and never (or rarely) question it. i find very interesting how he's so unpredictable, but his verdicts also sound.. reasonable? (well, if we're talking about the canon ones) like he doesn't jump to conclusions and also his decisions are understandable. and it feels refreshing to see a character who's an amnesiac, but doesn't really care about his memories and who he really is. i have this theory that haruto was, like, a completely average person and his memories really aren't that important, but maybe he was "chill" in a different way, like maybe he was just very apathetic? maybe that's why he has a feeling that his memories don't really matter? i'm very excited to see him in season 2! maybe he will get some character development?

ichiro!! my son!! my blorbo!! i would be terrified of him irl but i still relate to him a completely normal amount okay, okay, gonna be honest, i didn't know what to do with him when you posted his poll, like, at the same time i don't think forgiving him is the best decision, but also.. it's complicated, like, i think i need more info about him and his crime.

i love how he just goes with the flow and doesn't really care about anything and the fact that he likes to draw makes him even more cute <3 his mood swings make him more realistic too, like he's not just -_- most of the time, like he's actually a very emotional person!

about the "part of a dynamic" part, i just think that even though ichiro's personality is what makes him unique, when it's just him, there's not much to talk about, i guess? like i think his personality truly stands out when he's interacting with someone else. i still like him a lot though!

akane!! i don't have much to say about her, but i really do think she's innocent, at least right now, and as i've said before, i thought that an innocent verdict could "calm her down" and make her open up a bit more, also i just don't think her crime was that bad, like i think you said it was self-defense in some way? even if it wasn't, i really don't think that akane is a type of person who would kill someone for no reason at all and i trust her. also i really like her cuter tsundere side too, hehe <3 i would still find her intimidating irl though.

also i really like the parallels between ichiro and akane, like, the first one still acts like a small child, meanwhile the other one is more mature (even though she doesn't seem like it at first?), it's like.. both of them are coping in a different way, i guess? makes me think about haruka and yuno too.

i think you've said that suzume is that one oc you've struggled with the most and tbh i think i can see that? not in a bad way, of course, it's just.. she kinda has that energy, like, she was added later than everyone else, i guess? like at the same time i really like her but i don't have that much to say about her? i do have my theories though and also her mv is one of my favorites! really wanna draw something based on it when i have the time, hehe.

YUI!!! one of my faves, honestly. probably because i had a long idol/music games and anime phase. i love her design a lot, she's very pretty!! she's such an interesting character too, because like.. at the same time the fact that she refuses to admit the fact that she's a murderer annoys me a bit also come on her milgram cover is inmf, but also i kinda believe her? like maybe it wasn't an accident, but an indirect murder? like she really was the reason why her victim died, but it's not like, you know, she did it with her own hands. that would be so embarrassing though, like she's really not doing well because of her guilty verdict right now and then it turns out that it really was an accident 😭 very excited to see her go crazy <3

listen. again. sorry for mentioning their designs all the time, i'm that kind of person who cares a lot about the visuals, but i really like rin's design! he's very cute!

(also a note: i actually can imagine all your ocs as milgram characters? like they have the perfect designs for that, i think. like they're not too bright and colorful, but they're still easy to remember and i think that's cool and they fit the whole milgram aesthetic really well! like, i wanted to try and draw my ocs in milgram art style, but i kinda gave up because i couldn't imagine them actually looking like milgram characters at all djdkslsl)

but when it comes to his other traits.. i really don't have much to say? like seriously, if i had a chance to talk to him, i would just go "get over it" sjhskaslsls. i have no idea what that girl did, like maybe she started dating someone or simply spending more time with someone, but come on, dude, get up, this is embarrassing. him being the youngest prisoner doesn't help his case either, like i can't take his crime seriously at all, i'm sorry :'D but who knows, maybe he'll turn out to be the most scary and dangerous prisoner here!

noa is another forgettable one for me, i'm sorry djfhnkdsl. i have a habit to refer to noa and suzume as a set, like, you know, sad girls who have some kind of love-related problems. it doesn't mean i don't like noa though! i just really don't know much about her and i don't know what to say about her. i would love to learn more about her relationship with her husband though and like.. how and why her whole crime even happened. and it's nice to see that your prisoners have a good older sister figure here if we don't count her using alcohol as a coping mechanism <3 her dynamic with rin is cute too!

OHHHH kiyoshi is a difficult one. like i voted him innocent (i think so? i don't remember that well actually), but.. i can't help but feel like something is wrong. like i really can't believe that it was just "self-defense". come on, his song title is literally "true colors", THERE MUST BE SOMETHING. but if he's just obsessed with justice or something and he saw what he did as self-defense, i won't be surprised. and the fact that he's more cheerful now also makes me feel like kiyoshi has a darker side that he hasn't shown yet. like don't think i will go easy on you this time, old man, i'll be watching you very closely <3 (also i remember you saying that riku and kiyoshi would get along well? i wonder what you meant by that.. maybe it was about the "everyone relies on them, but they can't rely on anyone" bit?)

and another one with scary vibes jsjksklsls maybe i'm just not a fan of characters who kill for justice, their morals or what they think is "right"? like something about that sounds messed up to me. and yes, i voted mayumi guilty AND I DON'T REGRET IT OKAY. sure, maybe your patient was a criminal, but again, you're a nurse and you should do your job. don't think that you have the right to decide his fate or anything like that. i'm sure mayumi really had good intentions and she really is a kind person, but yeah, right now i can't say she's innocent or that i'm planning to forgive her in season 2.

Digimon Adventure Manhua review

So I just finished the last issue of the Digimon manhua and here’s some thoughts;

Despite a lot of things it’s lacking, I actually really, really liked its art style.

It’s cool, well-made, and loyal to the original designs, so overall it was a pleasant read-through.

But it is lacking a lot, and I don’t think it can be enjoyable as a stand-alone read, nor does it enhance the experience of the anime as much as the novel does.

It’s not a waste of time, but it skips through so much that the characters end up not making sense. We don’t learn anything about them. Yamato loses his chill and provokes Taichi and we never freaking learn what his problem is. He just gets pissed at him, leaves out of shame, spends three (3) pages in the Cave of Angst and Character DevelopmentTM and then everything’s fine. It’s never actually said, nor implied that his parents are divorced and that he lives separately from Takeru. You just kinda assume that he’s a loner who got the Crest of Friendship just because.

It’s the same with all the other characters, by the way. I just mentioned Yamato’s case because he’s the blorbo.

I do have to say, though, that the designs behind some of those moments are really, really cool.

This is after Yamato’s fight with Taichi and Homeostasis’ intervention. It’s more succinct than in the anime, but I’ve got to say it cuts deeper, especially with Yamato openly admitting that he feels he’s useless to them, and Taichi immediately rebuking that.

Then another moment, while in the Cave of AngstTM:

Where again that adds something and hits harder; because we see through Yamato’s inner thoughts, where he’s “crying out” for Gabumon to help him. While in the anime Yamato makes it clear that he did indeed wish for Gabumon’s company, it’s different to actually see a moment with Yamato asking for his help.

But in general it doesn’t offer a complete experience. Plus I feel that the balance was a bit off, like, I do actually enjoy Etemon a ton, but I feel he got a little more focus compared to the other Big Bads. Maybe because his focus in the anime was small to begin with, so the cuts in his case weren’t as obvious.

But then there’s Pinocchimon. Who already is an amazing villain for me; the anime had the guts to give him some creepiness, but the manhua went all out.

He’s still the childish, nearing on innocent kind of creep that he is in the anime, but the style really chose to show how creepy he’d actually look and I really, really enjoyed that.

Overall, I actually do recommend it, though only as a companion to the anime and with the "warning" that it won't be that much enriching. But it's certainly a good time.

Obi-Wan Kenobi, episode 1

I had a blast watching and liveblogging this, believe it or not!

[Spoilers for the next episodes, and hopefully vague spoilers for KOTOR]

I appreciate the prequels recap. I last saw them when TFA came out... It's very funny to see “It’s over, Anakin! I have the high ground” and “You underestimate my power” included in full seriousness, though.

Wow, they're opening with the younglings? Brutal. Oh, must be saving the kicker to bookend the episode, then.

Oh so we’re focusing on the “nazi stand-in” angle here?

Oh right, I should have watched for the kid in the opening. I didn’t try to see her among the others. Also interesting how this “ten years later” timeskip frames her as the viewpoint character, though the viewer isn’t supposed to immediately realize it.

Oh god the word “Inquisitors” was said with the same cadence/accent they greet your player character in Dragon Age Inquisition, I almost jumped!

Did... did they put the Asian guy in a stereotypical Asian hat?! Bit distasteful.

Omg I thought she was uncomfortable for some reason I didn’t realize she just resented the guy for monologuing lmfao. Also nice bait-and-switch with the Jedi, I totally assumed it was Obi-Wan despite having a second-long thought like “Huh, this guy is dressed like a Jedi”. Why is he dressed like a Jedi, by the way? Is nobody in the order familiar with the concept of blending in?

Oh, the hat guy speaks with a Japanese accent, too.

“You will forget this fixation with Kenobi or I will relieve you of your duties”, Palpatine never said to Vader, presumably.

Idk why the Inquisitor is mad, she was way more efficient at finding the target...

Wait what the hell, he was telling this random Jedi to abandon everything and live a normal life and now he insists that “there’s more to life” and that Luke must be trained? Genuinely surprised to see the Hypocrisy not even thirty minutes in.

I didn’t really think about what her name was until I started watching the episode, but. Reva. Please tell me she was named after Revan on purpose!

Since people insist that Inquisitors aren’t Sith this would probably never happen but I want to see this woman recite the Sith code as she overthrows her own superior.)

been thinking about brulores getting caught and alma finding out, but instead of thinking the regular "bruno manipulated her" or the more ideal "very weird but ok", she thinks "dolores manipulated him"

like, her guilt in regard of how she made bruno hide in the walls due to her behaviour eats her alive and makes her unable to consider bruno as anything more than a victim. and makes her wish there had been some way for her to avoid it. and then she realizes dolores knew all along but didnt say anything, which makes her feel puzzled... why would she let him stay there instead of trying to help him talk?

and then it turns out they are together? that makes the wrong things click in her head, and now she thinks that dolores kept mouth shut to keep bruno in the walls because it wouldnt work out if he was outside. she tries not to start arguments since shes trying to fix her relation with the family, but shes not taking bruno slander from the family members that are against.

👀 oh. Anon this is a very interesting idea.

Her logic could go the other way - she could assume that Bruno didn't want to be found and threatened Dolores into silence to more easily abuse her - but Alma isn't always the most logical person. She's very easily blinded by her own stubborness and biases, and she has a tendency to place all of the blame on one person. A sort of black-and-white thinking. Through the movie, it looks like she thinks Luisa and Isabela can do no wrong, so when she sees them fail or break rules or not manage to live up to her expectations, she does some pro gamer mental gymnastics to blame Mirabel instead. Luisa clarifies she confided on Mirabel when she was feeling poorly and later lost her powers? It means Mirabel said something harmful to her. Isabela is wrecking havoc through town with her new plants and dragging Mirabel around? It's clearly Mirabel acting as a bad influence. Let's remember Luisa and Isabela are adult women, and Mirabel is only 15. It's ridiculous to blame her for her sisters' "mistakes".

And not to shoehorn my OTP here but I've been thinking about Alma's reaction to Mirabel and Isabela right after WECID, and my first thought was "damn you know what would make this scene better? Inc3st /lh". My second thought was "holy shit grandma would blame the 15 y.o for getting sisconned". Because, i'm not saying a minor can't sexually abuse an adult, but when you're a child's guardian and you see this child in a relationship that is 99,99% guaranteed to be abusive, it would be really fucking irresponsible and dangerous to assume the child is to blame. It doesn't matter that the characters in question are doing Fantasy Inc3st that is actually Good and Healthy because it's the Magical Exception - any reasonable adult would look at a situation like this (age gap, inc3st) and assume the younger one is in danger, and the older one needs to be kept away. You can't just ask no questions and assume the teenager is the bad guy and the adult that should know better is completely innocent. That's how you endanger a child. Congratulations. Your child is endangered. But I'm not sorry to say that I can totally see Alma pulling some bullshit like this. It's stupid and dangerous and irresponsible and it shows a horribly cruel lack of love and care for the person she's blaming, and a clear favoritism for the one that any rational person would be wary of.

Sisc0n segment aside: yes. I can imagine Alma reproducing this behavior or a smaller level when it comes to brulores. If she decides that Bruno is Good^TM now, the ultimate victim, or, as kids say these days, a Skrunkly Blorbo, then yeah I can see her... not directly blaming Dolores - her relationship with Dolores isn't unloving - but being more suspicious of her than of him. Especially if we take the creepy Dolores hc into account. Maybe she IS a pervert or something. I still want to bring up how, in canon, she fell in love with a man who didn't know her by spying on him. That's really fucking creepy imo and shows a lack of concern for personal boundaries, so who's to say she's not, er, selectively hearing Bruno's NOs as a YES, or that she's manipulating him, guiltripping him, cornering him in any way? He's so scared, so skittish, so fragile - and he looks like he needs someone, anyone, to hear him out and side with him for once.

That would be an interesting development. The family blames and punishes Bruno, but when Alma finds out, her first instinct is to comfort and protect him. He's her son. He needs her.

She doesn't like the way in which Dolores looks at him one bit.
