HYKSOS???
If the direct translation of Hyksos is “rulers of a foreign country” then wouldn’t Nefertiti and Akhenaten be considered foreigners to the land? It explains the connection between Abraham and Hammurabi with ease.
Moreover, it flies in the face of more recent theories that all of the dynasties of Egypt we think of were Semitic in origin. I mean, 1750 BCE is almost 1,500 years after a Kushite by the name of Menes unified North and South Egypt and set up the first dynasty.
Or, hear me out. Is it because of the way we lump together groups with the term Semitic that’s the issue. It was created by a linguist who observed the sons of Shem spoke a set of related languages. Unfortunately, the verse in Genesis that ties the sons of Shem together does so by blood. So now, we associate the Semitic language with constructs like race instead of culture.
Somebody with a more extensive grasp on history please jump in and explain this. I’m genuinely perplexed.

The Heart Scarab of Hatnefer (ca. 1492–1473 BCE).
On the back is a version of the Book of the Dead chapter 30A (not the more common 30B), which reads:
"Heart of my mother, heart of my mother, heart of my (actual) being, do not rise up against me as a witness; do not contend against me in the court of judgement; do not make opposition against me in the presence of the keeper of the balance. You are my bodily ka, a Khnum who has invigorated my limbs. When you ascend to the perfection from which we have come, do not cause our names to stink to the entourage who create mankind in their proper stations, but rather may it go well with us and with the listener so that the judge may rejoice. Do not devise lies against me in the presence of the god, for your reckoning is at hand."

Sources/Further reading: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7. Fun fact: Studies show that the ancient Egyptians were right about Khepri's connection with the sun's movement. Scarabs actually dó look to the skies for direction (Smithsonian).

#OTD in 1835 – The coffin of mummy, Takabuti, was opened and unrolled in Belfast Natural History Society’s museum at College Square North.
Takabuti was the first Egyptian mummy to be brought to Ireland. After the Napoleonic Wars there was a brisk trade in Egyptian mummies. She was brought to Belfast in 1834 by Thomas Greg of Ballymenoch House, Holywood, Co Down. Her hieroglyphs were deciphered by a leading Egyptologist from Ireland, Dr Edward Hincks, of Killyleagh, Co Down. The horizontal inscriptions gave the names and titles of…

Statue of Idi - Met Museum Collection
Inventory Number: 37.2.2 Old Kingdom, Dynasty 6, ca. 2200 B.C. Location Information: From Egypt; Possibly from Northern Upper Egypt, Abydos
Description:
Idi was a high official of the Sixth Dynasty, possibly identical with a vizier of the name name buried at Abydos. The animation of his face's large features and the minimal modeling of his body are elements of a style that originated late in the Fifth Dynasty at Saqqara and spread during the Sixth Dynasty to the provinces.

About the Pentacle - part 1: Egyptian tie?
Short answer: I don't believe so.
There is no denying that a 5-pointed star and a 5-pointed star with a circle around it are ancient Egyptian symbols.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Egyptian stars in the tomb of Nefertari, Rameses the Great's wife, ca. 1255 BCE, source.

The star symbol is a common hieroglyph, meaning 'night' (source). The encircled duat star represents the 'underworld' or 'other world' (source).
Tumblr media

However, this hieroglyph doesn't look like the famous pentagram. It's also clearly not drawn in the typical way we know today for making a pentagram:

In fact, when we look at the older version of the hieroglyph 'star', we find it's made with a circle in the middle, like the fossil of a starfish or a common Mediterranean red sea star - which to me, goes well with ideas like 'cosmic ocean':

This circle at the heart continued in more recent periods, as seen in f.e. this limestone panel, dated 400-200 BCE that can be seen at the Met.

We can safely conclude that Egypt is strong with 5-pointed stars and has an encircled star as an important symbol.
But I would not state a direct line between the pentacle and the duat star; they seem to be drawn differently. I also see no strong evidence that the modern pentagram (or pentacle) is directly connected with starfish in a (cosmic) ocean.
Every pentagram is a star, but not every star is a pentagram.
To be continued in part 2!

So I was scrolling and saw this image in an article about the European heat wave,
Tumblr media
And was like, uh, are you missing something there, buddy? Like all that red in northern Africa? Because that's a lot of red.
And I was going to give them the benefit of doubt, since I don't know much about the climate in Northern Africa, aside from Morroco and Egypt, which seem like really hot places, so you know, maybe it's normal there?
But nope, that's not the case:
Some selections from the article:
"The region has been experiencing some of the most intense heat waves in recent years, but in many cases they’ve been under-reported due to misconceptions about Africans’ ability to withstand them.
“Africa is seen as a sunny and hot continent,” said Amadou Thierno Gaye, a research scientist and professor at Cheikh Anta Diop University in Dakar, the capital of Senegal. “People think we are used to heat, but we are having high temperatures for a longer duration. Nobody is used to this.”
"The Sahel, for instance, has been heating at a faster pace than the global average despite being hot already. Burkina Faso and Mali, both in West Africa’s Sahel, are among countries that are set to become almost uninhabitable by 2080, if the world continues on its current trajectory, a UK university study found. Its people are especially vulnerable due to shrinking resources, such as water, and poor amenities, and a dearth of trees and parks means there are few options for places to cool off."
