Samsung Ship Model Basin(SSMB) Túnel de cavitación Samsung Heavy Industries construyó un gran túnel de cavitación de bajo ruido mediante su propia tecnología en 1996, que ubico a SSMB como uno de los túneles comerciales de cavitación más grandes del mundo. Este túnel de cavitación tiene dos secciones de prueba diferentes, en la que la sección Nº 1 mide 6 metros de largo, 1.2 metros de ancho y profundidad, lo que permite pruebas de modelo de alta velocidad generando la velocidad de flujo del túnel de hasta 28 metros por segundo. La sección Nº 2 tiene 12 metros de longitud, 3 metros de ancho y 1.4 metros de profundidad que pueden acomodar el máximo de 10 m de longitud de la nave modelo y un impulsor que facilita la circulación de 650 toneladas de agua dentro del túnel a una velocidad de 12 metros por segundo. El túnel de cavitación de clase mundial de SSMB (SCAT) permite una predicción rentable y precisa del rendimiento de cavitación, como velocidad de inicio, extensión de cavitación, fluctuación de la presión del casco inducida por la hélice y cavitación del timón con un modelo completo que simula el campo de activación más confiable. Las valiosas herramientas para la medición y visualización del campo de flujo permiten una investigación sofisticada con respecto al campo de flujo alrededor de vehículos con arreglos complicados.
