A critical perspective comparing the difference between Natural Tourism and Cultural Tourism
Tumblr media
Cultural Tourism
Cultural tourism resources are things and factors created by human beings that reflect the political, economic, cultural and social customs and conditions of different times and nationalities and have tourism functions. It is also divided into three categories, namely monuments and architecture, leisure and fitness (including scientific, educational and cultural facilities, recuperation and welfare facilities, zoos, botanical gardens, parks, stadiums, amusement venues, festivals, cultural groups, etc.) and shopping (including markets and shopping centers, famous shops, local products, etc.).
Human tourism resources also known as human landscape tourism resources. It refers to the cultural landscape composed of various social environments, people’s life, historical relics, culture and art, ethnic customs and material production, which has become the object of tourists’ sightseeing due to its traditional characteristics. They are the crystallization of human history and culture, and the concentrated reflection of national features. They not only contain the spiritual and material wealth left over from the long history of human beings but also include various aspects of the current human society. Unlike natural scenery tourism resources, cultural landscape tourism resources can be consciously created by people, but by building museums, art galleries, amusement parks, cultural center, sports center, as well as the organization culture festival, festival, festival, music festival and the folk festival activities such as unique cultural activities to enrich the content, attract tourists from distance form full of modern human tourism resources.
Generally divided into the following categories:
(1) human scenery. Including ancient buildings, famous historical and cultural cities, historical relics and sites, tombs of famous people, museums, modern buildings, and modern memorial sites and monuments;
(2) cultural tradition. Including ethnic festivals, ethnic arts, and crafts, local customs, language, religion, politics and science and technology!
(3) sports and recreation. Including sports and fitness for the purpose of travel, participate in or watch sports games, visit theme parks and amusement parks, participate in the world cultural activities and health care for the purpose of recuperation tourism; (4) diet and shopping.
Tumblr media
Natural Tourism
Natural tourism refers to responsible tourism behavior in a particular natural area. To enjoy and appreciate historical and existing natural, cultural landscapes. Such activities should be carried out without disturbing the natural area, protecting the ecological environment, reducing the negative effects of tourism, and providing beneficial social and economic activities for the local population.
At that time, two points were given about ecotourism. First, the object of natural tourism is the natural scenery. Second, natural tourism items should not be damaged. In the global human beings are facing the environmental crisis. With the awakening of people's environmental awareness, the green movement and green consumption swept the world. Natural tourism, as a green tourism consumption, has aroused a huge response in the world. The concept of nature tourism has rapidly spread to the whole world, and its connotation has been constantly enriched. Tourism starts with one of the critical points of natural tourism. Natural tourism is defined as "returning to nature tourism" and "green tourism". Because of various environmental problems in the development of tourism. Tourism starts from the second key point of Natural tourism. Natural tourism is defined as "protection tourism" and "sustainable tourism". At the same time, countries around the world, according to their own national conditions, the development of Natural tourism, the formation of unique natural tourism.
The Forbidden City VS. The Qomolangma
Tumblr media
The Forbidden City
Located in the center of the central axis of Beijing, it is the largest palace type building in the world.
The Palace Museum is now the Palace Museum. Its collections are based on the collections of the Ming and qing dynasties. It is a national first-class museum and is also known as the world’s five major museums.
In 2012, the highest single-day visitor flow exceeded 180,000, and the annual visitor flow exceeded 15 million, making it arguably the busiest museum in the world to receive tourists.
The original construction of the Forbidden City involved 230,000 craftsmen, millions of migrant workers and soldiers, and lasted 15 years.
The building materials of the Forbidden City were transported from all over China.

M A S S   T O U R I S M      VS      N A T U R A L   T O U R I S M
Topic: A critical perspective comparing advertising methods of natural and mass tourism
Mass Tourism - The most popular form of tourism as it is often the cheapest way to holiday
- Often sold as a package deal, including travel/flights, activities, accommodation, and sometimes food
- A form of tourism that was organized tourism for large numbers of people
- Uses advertisements to attract new tourists
- Mass tourism destinations are designed for mass consumption and available to those who have access to afford visiting resorts
- Four Conditions of Mass Tourism: 1) standardized experience 2) rigidly packaged 3) undifferentiated clientele (nuclear family and couples) 4) Consume on mass levels
- John Urry’s “The Tourist Gaze 3.0”. This reading explains that the most popular form of travel in the world is mass tourism described as an enclavic, homogenization, and standardization
Natural Tourism - One of the most prevalent forms of alternative tourism since the mid 1980s, early 1990s
- A form of responsible travel to areas of high environmental value, helps to conserve those environments, and contributes to local economies
- Responsible travel to natural areas, which conserves the environment and improves the welfare of local people
- Includes all forms of tourism where relatively undisturbed natural environments
- Also known as ecotourism
- Nature tourists are people interested in the environment, who are searching for authentic experiences, and are able to pay high prices for these trips (Munt, Mowforth)
Advertising
- There’s a linkage between advertising and sales, that advertising can influence the purchase behavior
- The different ways consumers can be persuaded are: through interpersonal conversations with friends and family, by reading brochures, looking at billboards, advertisements, or browsing the Internet
- Different media channels deliver different advertisement messages and can result in different consumer responses
- TV ads: low-involvement and emotionally involving channels, reaches a mass audience, offers sight, sound, motion, and color -- has the power to force itself onto viewers
- Print ads: high-involvement and rationally involving channels, allows readers to set the pace, provide opportunity for making connections and points of interest -- a more comfortable learning environment where information is easily absorbed and integrated
- TV is more effective for quick messages, while complex messages are best understood in print media
- The utility of advertising information and perceived credibility are the two most important variables that make tourism advertising successful
Advertising and The Tourist Gaze
- Tourism is a highly visual industry, therefore it relies on stunning visuals in advertisements to keep tourists seeking new places to travel
- Advertisements are one of the greatest contributors to the Tourist Gaze because they highlight very appealing sights and landmarks places have to offer
- Because leisure and travel are seen as important by many people, there will always be a desire for new experiences and self discoveries in places outside of usual environment
- Tourism advertisements aim to sell “unique” experiences in unique locations
- Mass tourism ads create a gaze of escape and collectivity because they depict lots of leisure time with lots of people doing the same thing
- Natural tourism ads create a gaze of encounter and environmental because they depict people submerging themselves into nature

Both videos published in 2017. One has more views than the other.
QUESTIONS: 1) What stands out in the videos?  2) What video do you think has more views and what draws you to that conclusion?
