for mvm i’m thinking about the dagger squad being mechanics and they’re all fussing over you and offering to fix your car when you walk in their shop (i just think miles teller would look good in a dirty wife beater 😪)
today is multiverse monday, send me any au you can think of! :)
--
Natasha doesn't think it's fair that she's working the counter when you come wandering in, looking like a little lost puppy. If she'd forced Jake to take his shift at the right time, and not duck out for lunch, she'd be dressed down more, in a tank top that highlights all the places she wants you to see most. Instead, she's in a baggy uniform, nametag shining on her chest.
She tries to compensate for her lackluster outfit with extra sweetness when she greets you, "Hi there! What can we do for you today?"
She leans over the counter, bracing her chin in her hands. It puts her face closer to yours, just far away enough to claim professionality, even if she is trying to get a subtle whiff of your shampoo.
"Hi," You smile nervously at her, "My car broke down? It's- it's like, a mile up the road that way," You point out the door to a long stretch of road, one that's notorious for being away from most cell service.
"Aw," She croons, sympathy in her voice as her eyes soften impossibly further, "It's alright, we can tow it back here for you. You must be tired, walking all that way, you want a water?"
"Oh!" You gush when she pulls a bottle out from a cooler behind the desk, "That's okay, are you sure?"
"Totally sure," She sends you a wink, passing the chilled bottle over the counter, "I can drive the truck, but we'll need to get one other worker to come with us to hook it up. It's not a one-man job."
"Okay," You nod, standing adrift at the counter as she bustles about, slamming her thumb down on a comm system.
"Bradshaw!" She snaps, voice thick and rough, "Pull a truck around, someone needs towing."
"On it." Comes a raspy, grainy sound from the comm only seconds later, a man's voice this time.
"He's not a very good driver," Natasha explains, taking all the opportunity she gets to talk Bradley down, "You ever heard of 'brains and brawn'?"
You nod, and she laughs, "Let's just say, he's not the brain."
"Who's stupid?" Comes a voice from behind the counter, and a man with gelled brown hair and thick glasses emerges from the bathroom, "Oh- uh, hello, are you having car trouble?"
The man looks like a deer in headlights, all pinky cheeks and wide eyes. His nametag reads Bob, and you shift on your feet as you nod.
"Yeah," Your teeth catch the inside of your cheek and you gnaw there, "Uh, my car broke down on the road out there, and it needs towing."
"Oh! I can drive," He offers with a sweet, hopeful smile, but Natasha intercepts, unbuttoning her uniform shirt so that only a white tank lays underneath.
"I'm driving," She states as calmly as possible, but she's urgent to shut him down as she leaves her uniform draped over the back of her chair, "Bradley's hooking it up."
"Oh," Bob's shoulders sink, but perk back up once he spots the cooler, "Has anyone offered you a water?"
You hold up the bottle, smiling sweetly at him, "Thanks anyways."
"Here," The door behind Natasha bursts open with a bang, and a man steps out, chest heaving a shirt stained with grease. The white fabric holds tight to his skin, and there's a similar smear of grease across the bulge of his bicep.
He spots you, and he heaves one final exhale, holding out an oil-stained hand for you to shake.
"Bradley," He introduces himself with a charming smile, and his eyes are concealed behind aviator sunglasses, "You need towing?"
"I do," You lament, reaching for his hand and trying to avoid the grease smeared on his skin. His fingers are rough, calloused, but his touch is soft as he wraps his other hand around your intertwined ones and shakes yours.
"Don't worry," He soothes, choosing to vault himself over a lower part of the counter instead of open the door, so that his muscles pop. He lands beside you, shoulders broad and breath momentarily hot against your shoulder, "We'll get it fixed up for you."
"Thank you," You breathe, hands suddenly sweaty. They're circling you like vultures, Natasha hastily breaking through the segmented doorway and standing on your other side.
"Tow truck's out front," Bradley motions to the truck standing tall in the parking lot, "Actually, Natasha, you can sit this one out. I don't need help with the cables, and the front desk needs manning."
"That's what Bob's here for," She keeps steady, tense eye contact with Bradley, "Plus the last time you tried driving that truck, you almost crashed."
"Did not," He snaps.
"Did too," She sneers.
"Uh," Bob interjects, "If you want, I can-"
"No!' Bradley and Natasha turn on him in unison, but the door opens and cuts off any protests they could have given.
"Someone need towin'?" A southern drawl cuts across the room, and the employees around you groan.
"Ah," A man smiles from the doorway, flanked by another mechanic behind him with sharp features, nametag reading Javy.
"You must be the unlucky driver," The man drawls, Jake engraved on the metal tag on his chest, "Did'ja break down on the dirt out there?"
"Yeah," You breathe, taking a slow step towards him, "How'd you know?"
"People break down there all the time," He waves a hand dismissively, "How 'bout I help you with that, darlin'?"
"I'm driving," Bradley and Natasha speak in unison, and it puts a satisfied smirk on Jake's face.
"My coworkers are prone to infighting," Jake explains, feigning solemnity as he lays a hand on your shoulder, "It's a real problem. Let us take you, okay? We can let them sort out their issues on their own."
Javy holds the door open for you and Jake, sending Natasha, Bradley, and Bob a shit-eating grin, when you're out of earshot before he joins you, "Tryhards."

Tumblr media
Nat smiled as she took in the sight before her, her hand curled around a half-empty bottle of a beer. Watching the smoke from the bonfire billow into the night sky. The flames licked light and cast shadows onto her friends’ faces. Marshmallows stuck on the ends of sticks as a few guys held them near the large open flame, making s’mores for anyone who asked for one.
She took in Jake and Bradley, working in tandem with Bob to produce s’mores. The trio laughed as Jake dropped a whole ass marshmallow into the bonfire, losing it to the flames. Exchanging friendly jabs as they laughed at the misfortune of burning the sugary pillow to a crisp.
The rattling of beer bottles in the chiller grew louder as you rejoined the group with more beer, having taken the empty bottles back to the house to get more. Despite the heat from the fire, the chilly breeze from the ocean overpowered the fire and the usually warm summer air. And no one was ready to call it a night yet.
You passed the guys hoodies around to their respectful owners after placing the cooler in the sand. Nat thanked you for the dark hoodie you handed her, placing her beer in the sand to pull it over her head. Appreciating the extra warmth it gave her to battle the ocean breeze. Raising her beer to her lips and finishing the rest of the contents as you handed him a new bottle and took the empty one from her. Clinking your bottles together, she turned around to look at the house.
Bradley sipped his beer, watching the frown form on your face. Knowing you were upset that they hadn’t waited for you before breaking out the s’mores.
Bob apologised and Jake looked sheepish, which was good enough for you.
“C’mere,” Nat said, reaching for your hand as you walked past, pulling you towards her. “Wanna share your blanket.” She placed her beer back in the sand, pulling at the blanket around your shoulders.
You smiled down at her. “I want a s’more,” you told her as the blanket came loose. Sighing, knowing she’d get her way, you sipped your beer but didn’t fight her.
“Boys?” Nat asked, but the group was already on it. Bob had the graham crackers, Jake was layering the chocolate, and Bradley was roasting the marshmallow.
You sat down beside Nat, covering your legs with the blanket. Grateful for the extra warmth, and linking your arm through hers as you sat even closer. She didn’t seem to mind, especially since she rested her head on your shoulder.
Your crush on Nat had flourished over the summer. What had started as a small, mild infatuation after meeting her for the first time had blossomed into a whole other monster after spending the last two weeks sharing a room.
And a bed.
You assumed the guys had deliberately booked the house with two double beds and a fold out couch. Bob had volunteered to take the couch.
You’d looked at Nat, while Jake and Bradley stared innocently at you both. Like, “oops, guess we’ll have to share?”
“Yeah, you boys can share one bed, and Y/N and I will have the other,” she’d told them, grabbing your hand and dragging you giggling to your room before they had a chance to argue. Or ask if they could watch.
Two weeks ago your innocent crush had been tested. Nat didn’t know about your sexuality, or that her casual nudity around you drove you fucking crazy. She didn’t know how difficult it was for you to not stare creepily whenever she dropped her towel to change into her underwear or pyjamas. How difficult it was for you to pretend that you were straight, and let on that the cute brunette you had a crush on wasn’t any of the guys like she thought, but was in fact her.
The way she smiled at you. Was generous with her affectionate touches. Always linking arms as you walked, or giving you hugs sporadically. Yeah, she was friendly, but she was so god damn pretty. The way her hypnotising brown eyes sparkled whenever she told a joke. The way her nose crinkled when she laughed. How she would always, without fail, compliment you on your outfit.
Even if you were only half dressed in a fitted tank and panties, saying your ass or boobs look great. You can’t even tell if she’s flirting. The lines are too blurred now and it makes your head spin every time.
Bradley handed you a s’more and you thanked him with a smile, taking a tentative bite in case the marshmallow was too hot.
The guys were telling stories, trying to flirt with you both, but neither of you were having a bar of it. Nat had confessed that yeah, they were cute, but they weren’t her type. You had no idea what that meant, but you agreed with a laugh. They were something alright, but definitely not your type either.
As the night wore on, and the more beer you consumed, your eyes started to grow heavier. A yawn escaping your lips that Nat teased you about.
“I might head to bed, guys, I’m exhausted,” you announced. After a long day in the sun, and a fair bit of alcohol, you needed rest. You needed your bed.
That you shared with Nat.
She said her farewell and joined you on the walk back to the house, linking her arm through yours and giving you a smile.
“You didn’t really think you could leave me alone with the three of them, did you?” She teased.
You laughed softly. “You can handle them,” you replied.
“What about you? Can you handle me?” She asked so innocently, so sweetly, that it had you imagining all the ways you’d love to handle her.
You pushed open the door to the house and wiped your sandy feet on the mat.
“Y/N?” She asked softly.
“Yeah?”
“You didn’t answer me,” she prompted.
“I don’t know what you want me to say,” you replied truthfully.
“Then don’t say anything,” she said. “Show me. Show me how you’d handle me.”
“Nat–,”
You started to talk, to try and tell her that wasn’t a good idea. But her lips were on yours before you could say anything else.
She backed you further inside the house, her hands on your hips as yours snaked into her hair. Kissing her back without a second thought. This was all you’d thought about for weeks and now that it was happening, you felt like you were on cloud nine. Your skin was warm from the sun, but your body was warm from lust. Desire coursing through your veins with a vengeance.
You were hot, way too hot. Desperate to shed your clothes and devour her. Consume her. But you stopped, panting heavily. Eyes searching her own for any sign of doubt or remorse, and being relieved there was none.
“Bedroom,” you told her. “There’s no way in hell those guys are getting a show.”
She grinned and took your hand, dragging you down the hall to your room and locking the door.
You pulled her back in for another scorching kiss, one that left you breathless. Her mouth was soft and pliant against your own. Her hands slipped under your hoodie, hands cold against the skin of your hips. You shuddered under her touch, hands cupping her face as you walked her backwards to the bed.
You broke apart to pull your hoodie over your head, dropping it on the floor while she crawled onto the bed. She reached for you and pulled you down on top of her.
You’d dreamed of this moment so many times and now that it was here, you couldn’t wait. Couldn’t bear the thought of waiting any longer. What if she changed her mind? What if all she wanted was a kiss?
“You’re thinking,” she said, breaking the kiss to hold your face and stare into your eyes. “Stop it. Just enjoy it.”
“I’m enjoying it too much,” you confessed. “I just want to make sure you want this as much as I do.”
“I do. I want this. I want you.”
You were a goner.
She tangled her hands in your hair as she kissed you with fervour. One leg slotted between yours, the other hooked around your waist. Your core pressed firmly to her thigh as you rolled your hips, hands pushing her shirt up her sides. Fingertips digging into the soft flesh.
“God, you’re so fucking sexy,” you praised, dipping your head to her collarbone and nipping. Sucking. Teasing. Hands traveling further under her shirt, cuppings her breasts over the material of her bra. Squeezing appreciatively.
“Please,” she whimpered breathlessly, grinding her hips. Desperate for some kind of friction against her core.
You took off your shirt, gesturing for her to do the same thing. Discarding your bra too, and pushing her back down onto the bed. Your hands pulled the cups of her bra down to expose her full, pert breasts.
She gasped as you dipped your head to wrap your lips around one of her nipples, your hand playing with her other breast. Sucking, tweaking, massaging. Alternating between breasts and moaning in appreciation.
She was so receptive. Moaning and gasping. Hands tugging your hair and hips jerking up, desperately seeking your firm thigh.
You wanted more. You needed to see more of her. Spread out and fucked out of her mind. Consumed by you and how good you could make her feel. And then you wanted more. You never wanted to let her go, and you were hoping she felt the same.
You left hot, wet kisses down her body. Fingers hooking into the waistband of her shorts and tugging them down, leaving her in her cute lace panties that had a pretty little wet spot at the center.
“Fuck, I can’t wait to taste you,” you groaned, kissing her inner thigh and watching her squirm.
Tracing a finger over the lace before pulling it to the side and revealing her mound. A thin strip of hair perfectly tailored towards her glistening slit.
You couldn’t wait. Your mouth was on her and she was gasping, fisting the bed as you wasted no time devouring her. Consuming her. Swirling your tongue around her swollen clit. Lapping at her center and burying your face in her. Tongue stiff as you worked it inside her hole, fucking her. Tasting her. Humming in appreciation as she rocked her hips and fucked your face. Hand gripping your hair and keeping your head in place until her legs were shaking and she was yelling your name as she rode out her orgasm.
But still you wanted more. Removing her panties this time and feasting her slit with your fingers. Mouth wrapped around her breast as you pushed them inside her. Feeling how tight and wet she really was for you and chuckling as she gasped and bucked her hips.
“No fair,” she pouted. “I wanna taste you, too.”
You groaned at her words and quickly slipped out of the rest of your clothes. Moving so you were straddling her face.
She pulled you down the rest of the way, tongue teasing your clit just like you’d done to her. Then you buried your face between her legs again, copying what she was doing on you, and making her feel the exact same things. Gasping as her teeth grazed your clit before she began sucking on it, treating her the same way and feeling her breathy moan against your core.
She copied you this time when you pressed two fingers back inside her hole. Hooking them towards you and seeking that soft, spongy inner wall that would have her toes curling in no time. She took a little longer to find that same spot for you, but when she did, you were seeing stars. Fucking yourself back into her fingers while her hips jerked up and she fucked herself on your fingers.
The vibrations of her moans against your clit as her own orgasm wracked her body had you coming undone in no time. Feeling her contract around your fingers, her legs shaking and her own fingers still fucking you through her own delirium had your high erupting in no time. Moaning against her cunt the same way she’d just done to you.
When you collapsed beside her, she took your face in her hands and peppered it with soft kisses. Her lips lingering on yours for a moment longer than anywhere else, and you held her close. Cradling her body against yours. Enjoying the way she looked at you, blue eyes riddled with uncertainty that she let you kiss away. And when that uncertainty came back, you kissed her again. And again, until all that was left was happiness from your post-orgasm bliss.

hello again! I was the anon who asked if you were taking requests for Phoenix 💞 lord knows I've spent too much time on the #natasha trace x reader tag HAHSAHAJS tumblr needs more nat content (I'm pleading on my knees 🧎🏻‍♀️)
I was thinking about Nat having a girlfriend but struggling to come out to her friends. She has been dating reader for long enough that they've moved in together and has yet to mention to them that the reason she's been leaving the hard deck earlier than usual is because she has a girlfriend at home.
She thinks nobody suspects a thing but bob found out somehow (it's up to you) and asked her directly. She gives up the facade and tells him everything and they have a long talk about her struggles with her sexuality and her fear of coming out to her friends and actually showing off her gf. That night, she talks to her gf too and decides she's going to finally introduce reader to the dagger squad.
I would looooove to see their reactions on this, bc in my head, everyone must've thought she was into guys like hangman or whatever and she's shows up with this pretty girl by her side. They're already planning on who's gonna get her number first and nat just "uh.. guys this is my girlfriend😄"
Just super fluffy and kinda angsty too? Maybe throw in some smut if you feel like it 👀💞 It's totally up to you!!!
mwah!💋

syd !!! thank you so much for sending this in, I absolutely loved this idea and I hope I did it justice!
Tumblr media
The Hard Deck wasn’t as crowded as it usually was and Phoenix was grateful for the breathing room as she sipped her beer at the bar and checked her phone, letting you know she’d be leaving soon… Friday night was always bar night for the squad, a way to relax and unwind heading into the weekend after a long week of training and she really loved it… it was always fun getting to spend time with them, the squad had turned into its own little family but that didn’t stop her from always being the first to leave to get home to you as quickly as she could.
No one knew about you yet… she’d wanted to tell the team for weeks now but every time she thought she worked up the nerve she backed out at the last minute, anxiety overruling and shutting it down before she could even get the words out. She was so lost in her own thoughts that she didn’t even notice Bob slide into the seat next to her until he was tapping her shoulder and pulling her focus back to the present.
“Hey Nat, can I talk to you for a minute?” he asked softly as she nodded, turning to give him her full attention. “Why haven’t you told anyone you have a girlfriend?” he whispered and her eyes widened at the question… she’d been thinking he might want to talk about the training exercise today, she’d made a decision in the air he didn’t agree with and it was normal for them to talk it out afterwards but this felt like Bob had dropped a bomb on her.
“What do you… how did you know?” she asked and he gave her a soft smile.
“Overheard you on the phone at lunch,” he replied and she thought back to the conversation she’d had with you… she’d laughed while you filled her in on some of your coworker’s antics and told you what time she’d be home before calling you her sweet girl and telling you how much she loved you. She’d thought she was alone in the locker room, otherwise she wouldn’t have let that slip.
“Oh… uh, just haven’t felt ready to, I guess.” she answered and Bob nodded, giving her the space to continue when she gathered her thoughts. “I’ve gotten mixed reactions from other squads in the past and… I don’t know, we’ve just got a good thing going here and I don’t want to ruin it.”
“Why do you think you would ruin it?” he asked, genuinely interested in the answer and she sighed.
“It’s not easy… being a woman in the Navy, let alone being a gay woman in the Navy. We’ve never talked about that kind of stuff before, I don’t really know what everyone’s views on that are. My parents struggled with it when I came out to them and it’s been an issue in the past at my other stations and I guess I just didn’t want to deal with the fallout again,” she shrugged.
“If it helps, I really don’t think anyone here would have a problem with it,” he said, and she lifted her attention from her glass to look at him questioningly. “I know we’ve never talked about it but… I can’t see anyone on the squad treating you differently because of it. I think they might be a little shocked, but that’s mainly because of how you banter with Hangman, everyone kind of thinks you two might be a thing on the down low-”
“Wait, what?” She cut him off and his eyes widened.
“You guys just have this like… thing, you’re very competitive and playfully mean to each other, I guess some of the squad just assumed it was because you were a thing,” he explained and she chuckled as she shook her head. “But once they get over the shock of being wrong, I think they’d be happy for you.”
“I just don’t know what I’d do if it doesn’t go that way. I’ve tried to get to a place where I don’t care if people aren’t accepting but… I’m just not there yet,” she sighed.
“I understand… I mean, as well as I can understand. It can’t be easy but you shouldn’t have to hide who you are, and I can at least speak for myself when I say I’m really happy for you… but I really think they’d like to meet her, they’re probably going to figure it out anyways because they all want to know what has you slipping out early every night. Whatever you decide, I’m in your corner… if you don’t want to, your secret’s safe with me,” he said, giving her a soft smile and a reassuring squeeze on her shoulder before he rejoined the group to leave her alone with her thoughts. It wasn’t that she didn’t want to introduce you to them, she really did… she’d told you everything she knew about each of them and you’d expressed your interest in tagging along one night but were understanding when she said she wasn’t ready for that yet.
If she had it her way she’d be screaming from the rooftops how in love with you she was… she’d invite the squad over so they could try your amazing cooking, and you’d be by her side every Friday night but there was truly no way to know how everyone else would feel until she came clean, and that idea absolutely terrified her.
“Hey honey, I’m home!” Phoenix called out as you heard her keys rattle against the dish on the entryway table and you padded down the hallway to greet her with a warm smile.
“Hey Nat, how was work today?” you asked, giving her a sweet peck on her lips before watching her pull her boots off and you immediately noticed the slump in her shoulders. “Are you okay?”
She nodded and gave you a smile that didn’t quite reach her eyes as she grabbed your hand and pulled you towards the couch, “Bob found out about us.”
“Yeah? What’d he say?” you asked as the two of you sat beside each other and you instantly pulled her legs over your lap.
“He was really supportive, he said I should tell everyone else,” she sighed.
“How do you feel about that? Are you ready?”
She shrugged, “I don’t know… once I open that can of worms it’s not like I can stuff it back in,” she said and you nodded, your thumb rubbing reassuring circles against her uniform-clad thigh. “It’s not that I don’t want to… I don’t want you to think for a minute it’s because I want to hide you, I just don’t want it to blow up in my face.”
“I never thought that sweetheart,” you said with a reassuring smile. “I know it’s hard, and I know you’ve been burned before in previous squads but you speak so highly of them… from what I’ve heard they all sound like really great people and I think it would be good to finally clue them in,” you said. “You know I’m okay either way, it’s at your pace, Nat… but this has been stressing you out ever since you got permanently stationed here, and they are probably going to find out sooner or later… I think you might feel better if you get to control the conversation instead of more people piecing it together like Bob did.” She knew you were right… you always were, it really was only a matter of time. Sure, Bob was the most observant of everyone else so she couldn’t be surprised he was the first one to piece it together but it’s not like her squad was stupid. “It’s up to you, but I think you should get it over with. Just rip off the bandaid and whatever happens we’ll deal with it together just like we always do.”
She gave you a soft smile, the first real one of the evening as she looked at you with nothing but love in her eyes, “what do you think about meeting me at The Hard Deck after work next week?”
“I think that’s a really great idea,” you answered, leaning in to press your lips to hers.
“I really love you, you know that?” she asked and you nodded with a chuckle.
“I know, I love you too.”
The entire week leading up to their usual hangout at the bar had Phoenix on edge… logically she knew you and Bob were right, but she just couldn’t shake the feeling of dread that had settled deep in her bones as the day creeped closer and closer. She didn’t want to call it off (though she’d thought about it a dozen times), she had to stick with it and follow through otherwise she never would and as she stood around the pool table with the rest of the boys she honestly felt like she might throw up.
“You good, Nix?” Hangman asked, looking her over curiously, “worried I’m going to kick your ass again?” He gestured over to the pool table and she just rolled her eyes.
“I don’t know what you mean by again, you’ve never beaten me,” she replied and he scoffed. “Revisionist history, I see how it is,” he teased and when the bar door swung open she whipped her head around to see you walking in looking as beautiful as ever… you were wearing her favorite dress of yours, a simple little wrap dress that really brought out your eyes and she couldn’t help the smile that overtook her face but no one around her could notice as they all stared at you too.
“Damn, she is gorgeous,” Rooster said, eyes tracking you as you scanned the bar and Hangman just shoved his shoulder.
“In your dreams, Chicken, watch how the professionals do it,” he said, straightening his posture as he started to move towards you but he stopped in his tracks when recognition flashed over your face and watched as you walked directly towards their group. You gave her a bright smile, not standing too close and waiting to see how she wanted to proceed… you didn’t want to toss her into the deep end by planting a kiss on those lips you loved so much (despite how you really wanted to) and you watched as she laughed nervously, grabbing your hand as she introduced you.
“This is my girlfriend,” she said, squeezing your hand and waiting for everyone’s reaction and you watched the variety of emotions that passed over their faces before they all seemed to put the pieces together in their heads and soon they were giving you big smiles and extending their hands as they told you their callsigns.
“Well, I see why she’s been hiding you away… you are beautiful,” Bob said with a genuine smile and you chuckled as you shook his hand.
“How long have you two been together?” Rooster asked and Phoenix shifted her weight nervously.
“A few years,” she answered and you bit back a smile at their shocked expressions.
“Years? Nix, why didn’t you tell us sooner?” Hangman asked, and you thought the concern in his voice was out of character for him… well, as much as you knew about his character from what she had told you.
“I uh.. Well, I didn’t know how you guys would react,” she said honestly with a shrug and you saw the understanding pass over their features.
“Phoenix…” Rooster said, giving her a sad look before wrapping an arm around her. “I’m sorry if anyone ever gave you the impression you couldn’t tell us,” he said and she shook her head.
“No one did… it’s just, not necessarily a well-recepted thing in the Navy even though times are changing.” she replied.
“Well I speak for everyone when I say the squad just gained its newest member… and if anyone has a problem with that I will not-so-kindly throw you overboard,” Hangman said as he slung an arm over your shoulders. “You and I have much to catch up on, I want all the details,” he said and you chuckled as you walked down to the bar with him. You knew Phoenix would have nothing to worry about, you could tell from your after-work conversations she immensely respected all of them (even Hangman) and after meeting them you honestly felt like she might have been selling them short all this time. The way they welcomed you with open arms had your chest feeling warm and you could just tell it was all genuine as Hangman started talking your ear off and ordering you a beer.
You’d been passed around from person to person all night, barely getting a moment alone with your girlfriend but that was fine with you… you knew the novelty of a new person hanging around would wear off and they were all just excited to get to know you.
“How are you feeling, sweetheart?” you asked when Fanboy finally relinquished you from the very intense discussion you’d both had about Star Wars. You wrapped an arm around her waist and pulled her into you, smiling softly as she melted against you.
“Good. So good, you were right… I should have gotten this over with sooner. I love seeing you with them,” she said and you pressed a kiss to her lips.
“And I love getting to know them. It doesn’t matter if I was right, you needed to do this when you were ready to,” you said and she just beamed at you before pulling you back in and kissing you passionately… earning some whistles and cheers from her friends and making your cheeks burn.
“I love you so damn much, you know that?” she asked and you nodded as you giggled.
“Yeah, I know. I love you too,” you said, pecking her lips once more before dragging her over to the dartboard where Hangman had all but promised to take it easy on you (you didn’t believe him one bit). Phoenix had found her family, and you were so grateful to now be a part of that.

Aside from the required communication on missions and training, Natasha is one of the pilots that prefers to let her flying do the talking for her
But when she’s on the ground, boy, does she have a way with words
Natasha loves to write
It’s not something she really broadcasts to anyone, but she’s not ashamed of it either
She’s just the type of person who reserves her words for those she wants to share it with
As a child, she always loved reading
From the stories her mom would read to her before bedtime like Stellaluna and Dr. Seuss book
To the chapter books she’d borrow from the library like the Harry Potter and Goosebumps series
So when she got a good comment from her teacher on a story-writing assignment in school, she kept at it as a hobby
She could write anything under the sun, from poetry and short stories to academic papers and articles (she was on her school paper during her junior and senior years)
But she never saw it as a career since she liked the freedom of writing whatever, whenever, and wherever she liked
Once she entered the navy, she kept up her hobby through her private diary entries and the emails she would send to you
Of course, she emailed her family too, mostly telling them she was safe, and some stories she felt were appropriate to share with them
Like the nice cafes she and Bob ate at during their lunch break and how she promises to take them there when they visit
Or the high praise she received from her superiors about her performance from their latest mission
But the emails she sends you are much more colorful
She knows how much you love her storytelling, how she spares no detail and makes it feel like you were right there with her as it happened
Paragraphs on paragraphs of Hangman and Rooster’s latest argument
And Coyote’s Gordon Ramsay-level critique on his latest pastry find
And her girl’s night with Halo, Penny, and Amelia at the Benjamin household
She’ll save some of the more serious stories for when you guys get to call because she doesn’t like you rereading and dwelling on the negative stories (which are also the ones harder for her to write)
In exchange, you email her back everything that’s been happening at home, and these easily become the highlights of her day
When she gets back home, you spot her (sort of) casually greet her fellow aviators goodbye but on the drive back home with you, she’s bursting with energy, never running out of things to share
And before going to bed, you both swap journals—filled from cover to cover with reflections, poems, and real and imagined stories from your time apart—with the pages you want each other to read already doggy-eared
(It was something you learned how to do for her during your first time apart)
When you’re both done reading it, you tuck away the journals on your shared bookshelf that’s reserved for all the notebooks both of you collected and filled in through the years
It warms her heart knowing the two of you share enough stories for a lifetime, and that your life together is definitely one for the books

Natasha 'Phoenix' Trace x Robert 'Bob' Floyd
Word count: 2,9K
This is part two of a mini series. This is not beta'ed.
Thank you for taking the time to read this. Every like, comment and reblog is deeply appreciated!
Tumblr media
The peacefulness of her parents' kitchen was a welcome change to Natasha's morning routine. She had never been a great fan of eating in the mess hall on base with any attempt of conversing with her colleagues drowned out by hundreds of others doing the same. The only sound she heard now was the faint scrape of paper when Bob turned a page of his newspaper. She felt calmer than she had felt in a long, long time, finally able to breathe a little easier. The pressure was off for a few days. She didn't have to prove anything to anyone when she was home. Here, she was simply Nat.
There were plenty of stolen glances across the table in Bob's direction. He was quiet - and unaware. He didn't seem to be on edge like he usually was when he was somewhere new. There were no lines of worry etched in his forehead, no lowered eyebrows and no strained lips. He looked relaxed as his eyes scanned across the wispy paper pages, and the corner of his mouth turned slightly up into a tiny smile every once in a while. His coffee was still warm in his cup, he had barely touched it since he sat down. Natasha smiled to herself, hiding it behind shoving fresh waffles into her mouth. The comfortable silence between them felt like an intimate type of twosomeness that Natasha didn't know she longed for. It was easy like this with Bob.
Natasha perked up at the sound of a car pulling slowly into the driveway and car doors being opened and slammed shut. Small feet slapping hurriedly against concrete. A happy cry came from the entrance hall and several loud voices carried throughout the house.
Natasha grinned at Bob. "The peace and quiet is over. Come on."
Natasha and Bob were greeted by the sight of Nick on the floor with two small children crawling on top of him, and Heidi holding her eldest son and only daughter in law in a bone-crushing hug. Natasha took over from her mom when Heidi finally let them go again.
Sebastian noticed Bob in the doorway and pulled away from his sister's hug to say, "Well, I never thought I'd live to see the day when my little sister brought home a guy."
Natasha rolled her eyes and punched Sebastian's shoulder, hoping it would wipe the smirk off his face. It had the opposite effect.
"He's not some guy," Natasha replied. "Bob is my coworker and my friend. He sits in the backseat of our jet."
"Right, right."
Natasha didn't appreciate the teasing tone in his voice.
Sebastian's wife diffused the situation by shaking Bob's hand. "I'm Michelle. It's so nice to meet you, Bob. I can't wait to hear what Nat is like as a pilot from someone who knows her."
Something unpleasant grew in the pit of Natasha's stomach as she observed the interaction between Bob and Michelle. She noticed how Bob's eyes scanned over Michelle's body and she hated how they lingered on her chest for just a second too long. Bob was a free man, he could gawk at whoever he wanted. But he could at least be a little more discreet about it. She took a moment to steady herself, hoping the heat inside her wasn't painting her skin as red hot as she felt.
Sebastian warmed up to Bob slightly after shaking his hand and Bob had responded with a solid handshake of his own. Bob had at least two inches of height over her brother, but Sebastian was in no way intimidated by this. Or maybe he was, but he made up for it by straightening his back and shoulders and puffing his chest out just a tiny amount. Natasha and Michelle both rolled their eyes at this ridiculous display of forced masculinity.
Once Emilia and Theo realised Bob was taller than their dad, they wouldn't leave him alone all morning. They took turns sitting on his shoulders as he ran around the back garden, making airplane noises while the children stretched out their arms from their bodies, laughing loudly and screaming with joy.
“Mommy, mommy, I can see the whole world from up here!”
The entire Trace family sat outside on the patio wrapped in blankets with warm drinks and the late November sun shining on their faces. Natasha couldn’t concentrate on what her brother was saying while Bob ran around with her niece and nephew. He looked so happy and relaxed. Happy and relaxed in a way that she had never seen before. He seemed so natural around these kids he had only known for a few hours, and Natasha adored him for it. Seeing him so at ease and so joyful set some things in motion in Natasha, and she was loath to let them develop or to explore them any further. She didn’t need this right now.
“Nat?” She suddenly heard Michelle’s soft voice through her daytime reverie.
“Hm?” Natasha’s gaze shifted from the playful scene in the garden to Michelle whose expression was patient with just a hint of amusement.
“I asked how long you and Bob have known each other? Where did you meet?”
Natasha pretended to mull over the question, buying herself a little time. “About a year and a half. We’re actually both stationed at Lemoore, but we didn’t meet until we were assigned for the same mission last summer.”
"But he's so far away from home? Judging from his accent. Where is he from? Georgia?"
"Yeah. I don't think he has a home to return to."
"Oh." Michelle's eyes were full of tenderness and concern as she observed her children and Bob for a while. Annoyance bubbled up inside Natasha, and she excused herself to the kitchen to keep it from boiling over within her. She splashed some cold water in her face before getting started on lunch.
It was good for her to focus on something other than Bob. Right now, bringing him here felt like a horrible idea. She was protective of him. They both knew that, and they were fine with it. Well, there was that one time when Natasha had scared off that girl at the Hard Deck who had set her sights on Bob, and the girl had worked impressively hard to flirt with and garner a response from the rather oblivious WSO. Natasha felt a little guilty about that. Not her proudest moment. But, Natasha figured, if the girl couldn't handle Natasha at her worst, she didn't deserve Bob at his best. Bob was still none the wiser about the situation.
But letting herself get annoyed, jealous even, over an innocent look from her sister in law? That was more than Natasha was willing to accept. So she removed herself from the situation. That was easier than dealing with the strange feelings that seemed to appear at the most awkward moments.
Natasha barely spoke with Bob all day, the kids laying claim to him after lunch, too. He sat with them for hours, reading books and making friendship bracelets with plastic beads. Natasha loved that he was so engrossed in their own little world. She realised it was probably a welcome break for him from having to deal with the adults in her family. Should she have done more to warn him? It wasn't too intense of a gathering at the moment, but her twin brothers had yet to make their appearance, and they were always so loud and needed to be the center of attention most of the time. Then again, she knew he could handle intense situations, even far better than she could.
"Bob, I can't believe how quickly the kids have taken a liking to you. They're not usually like this. You're such a natural with them."
Natasha tried to ignore Michelle and her compliment to Bob, but the book in her hands was proving to be not good enough of a distraction to do so.
"Isn't he just?" Heidi gushed. "You'd think some lucky lady would have snatched you up by now and started a family with you."
Bob's cheeks and ears were dusted with a light pink blush and he ducked his head slightly. "Oh, um, thanks."
Natasha sat upright in her arm chair, difficult after years of her dad slumping in it while falling asleep in front of the TV. "Mom, stop."
"What? I'm just saying."
"You don't even know if Bob wants to have children. Stop making assumptions." Natasha knew she sounded grumpy right now, but she couldn't stop herself. The thought of Bob finding some random woman, falling in love with her, getting married, having children … Natasha didn't even want to think about it. And then she could do nothing but admit to herself that she was jealous of some hypothetical woman. It didn't feel particularly good.
Heidi chuckled and turned to Bob. "Bob, dear, do you want to have children someday?"
Bob nodded tentatively. "Yes, ma'am."
"See?" Heidi smiled. "And I'm sure one day you'll meet the perfect woman and you'll have lots of beautiful children."
"I hope so," was Bob's simple reply. The look he gave Natasha while speaking was anything but. The way he didn't hold her gaze for more than a few seconds before looking away made him look hurt by his own reply. For a moment he looked so lost, and Natasha hated what it did to her and him. Bringing him home had definitely been a terrible idea. Heidi and Michelle kept talking as Bob sort of shelled himself in with Emilia and Theo.
It wasn't until several hours later, just after dinner, that Natasha got a chance to speak to Bob alone. She was even more upset after having to listen to Bob and Michelle become new best friends, bonding over obscure, indie-type horror films - and Sebastian who had been yapping away all evening about some football team Natasha didn't care about. She knew it was bad timing. But she had to say something or she would explode.
She cornered him in his room while he was laying out clean clothes for dinner the next day.
"Nix, hey. What's up? Are you okay?" he asked when he noticed her coming up behind him. He smiled at her despite the dark look she had on her face. He had smiled a lot today already, but this was a smile reserved for her only. Her breath hitched in her chest, and she fleetingly considered aborting her mission to confront him - but she knew she had to.
"What the fuck was that earlier today?" She poked his shoulder. Hard. Way harder than she meant to. Perhaps she could have chosen a different approach to confronting him. But that was too late now, and Natasha sometimes hated being so stubborn that she refused to admit when she was wrong, and that she refused to change her tactics.
He glanced down at the offending finger still pressed into his body. She let her hand fall down by her side. "What do you mean?"
"What do you mean?" she repeated the words in the same innocent tone, mockingly. She immediately regretted it. Of course he didn't know what she was talking about. Yet she found herself unable to sound anything but upset with him. "You staring at Michelle's boobs? I mean, I know they're nice and supple, but come on. My brother was right there."
Bob was on the cusp of laughing, but he forced the corners of his mouth down again to a more neutral position. He folded his hands in front of his body to keep his body steady. He replied calmly, "I wasn't staring at her chest. I was trying to figure out how far along she is."
Natasha's eyebrows flew up in surprise and her mouth fell slightly open. Natasha wasn't usually at a loss for words. "You- What?"
"Your sister in law, isn't she pregnant?"
Natasha had to sit down on the bed. She rubbed her forehead and stared up at Bob in disbelief. "She ... What? They- they haven't said anything about it."
Bob joined her on the bed, putting his hand on her knee. Something rather unfamiliar pooled in her stomach, settling low and worrying. "Oh. Well, obviously, I don't know them like you do. But I'm pretty sure she is."
Natasha hid her face in her hands with a groan, avoiding his tender gaze.
Bob spoke again, gently prying her hands away from her face, "You know, Nix, it kinda sounded like you were jealous for a second there."
Natasha looked up at him with wide eyes. She fought the urge to groan again, because of course she was and of course he knew. Denying it now would only make her seem unhinged. More so than she already felt.
"What if I am?" she asked quietly.
Bob exhaled deeply and moved his hand from her knee to the opposite shoulder, pulling her into a half-hug. She settled with her head on his collarbone, finding her balance against him with one hand on his thigh. It was awkward - but it worked. Natasha's breathing increased as his hand moved further down her body to cradle her closer, finding rest on her ribcage.
"Why are you jealous?" he whispered into the top of her head. "I'm not going anywhere."
Natasha sighed. "Bob, you're my best friend and our friendship is very precious to me. I hate the idea of being abandoned by you. I know, I know, it's very childish."
Natasha almost felt physically sick after speaking. It was so unlike her to talk about her feelings, and she worried that being honest about them would scare Bob away.
"Don't worry, I'm staying right here."
She sighed with relief and burrowed a little further into him, almost unnoticeably. She believed him. The scent of him filled her with a warmth that spread from the top of her head to tips of her fingers and toes. She placed her hand on his chest and looked up at him with curiosity.
"Your heart, it's beating so fast."
He cleared his throat, a dark blush spreading up his neck. "That's, um … That's what hearts do, isn't it?"
She narrowed her eyes at him briefly, her expression turning softer again. "Bob?"
"Mmh?"
"Did you mean what you said earlier? About wanting to have kids?"
He pulled away from her slightly. The depth of his gaze had Natasha breathing unevenly. "Yeah, I did."
She had to look away from him, the weight of his attention becoming too much for her. She picked at the fabric of his shirt absentmindedly. "And you're not in a secret relationship with some woman and have already gotten her pregnant, right?"
Bob laughed, letting his head fall back until he regained his composure. Natasha bit her lower lip at the sight of his exposed throat and jaw. "Ah, no. Not even close. Although, I mean … There is a girl."
"Oh. There .. There is someone?" Natasha's heart sank. It was then she realised that she wanted to be that girl. She supposed, with her glaringly obvious lack of boyfriends and proper relationships, that she ought to be surprised at her realisation. She wasn't. And she supposed she ought to start panicking now. She didn't. She was oddly calm as things started falling into place for her. It made so much sense. She was in love with her best friend. She was in love with Bob. And nothing could have felt more right in that moment.
"Yeah," Bob replied with a half-shrug. "But she doesn't know that I'm into her, and I don't think she's into me like that."
Natasha swallowed thickly. "I hope she soon realises what a catch you are. You deserve to find love and to be happy, Bob."
"So do you, Nix." The earnestness of his words and his gaze filled Natasha with an overwhelming sense of sadness that settled on top of her chest, making it difficult to breathe properly. Natasha had rarely thought of herself as deserving or undeserving of happiness and love, but it dawned on her that she had spent so many years neglecting that part of her life, keeping busy with her career in the Navy, that she was actually lonely. It hurt. She wasn't entirely convinced that love was a real solution to loneliness, but she wondered if perhaps the loneliness she sometimes felt was her own fault. She spent time worrying about Bob being lonely when perhaps she should be worrying about herself.
Bob interrupted her train of thought with a faint chuckle. He was laughing quietly to himself, eyes closed for a moment and head shaking slightly.
"Nix, can I tell you a secret?"
She gave him a curious look. "Yes, of course."
She found it endearing how his entire face went red before he had even revealed his secret. He said slowly, "So, maybe I wasn't only trying to gauge how far along Michelle is. Maybe I was staring at her chest. Just a little."
Natasha gasped and started laughing, slapping his arm softly, causing Bob to laugh, too.
"In my defense they were right there. Like right in my face. I couldn't look away."
"Ohh, boy," Natasha giggled. "You're lucky that you're cute. Otherwise I wouldn't be able to forgive you."
"I don't think I've ever heard you giggl- Wait, you think I'm cute?"
Natasha eyed him with a slight grin. "Shut up, Floyd."

Phoenix and you entered Penny’s bar when your phone suddenly rang. Taking it out, the nametag on it made your eyes widen. You touched Phoenix on her shoulder, letting her know you needed a moment. She simply smiled, heading further into the bar to the booth were Bob, Coyote and Fanboy already were. The phone kept buzzing as you weren’t sure what to do. Panicking a bit as to say. You knew not picking up, would do nothing as he would just keep calling you.
Answering was even terrible, as you knew he’d say anything to get you to yield. Like a collective caller, kept he calling you. Looking around frantically, you spotted the first person at Penny’s bar. You rushed over to the bar, pulling Hangman back by his shoulder. – “Emergency, you’re my boyfriend.” – you breathed out, holding the phone out to him. Hangman smiled cocky. – “Well, well. If you were desperate for a kiss, you’d just had to ask Y/n.” – Hangman replied all smug to your annoyance.
“No. No! You’re not actually my boyfriend.” – you informed him hastily. Hangman furrowed his brows, frowning. – “Make up your mind girl.” – he let out confused to what was happening. You moved your phone higher up for him to notice. – “I need you to be my boyfriend and make him stop calling me!” – you called out almost frantically at how slow he was catching up.
“Right.” – He simply said, setting a beer down and taking your phone in his hand. He answered the phone, giving you a cheeky eyebrow wiggle. Hangman didn’t even listen to what the other person was saying on the phone. – “Listen bud, stop calling my girlfriend.” – he spoke through. He heard an immediate response. – “Uhm her boyfriend.” – Hangman answered, showing you a goofy look at how obvious it was who he was talking to.
The man kept blabbing in his ear as Hangman had little interest in keeping him on the phone. – “Stop calling us, bye.” – he spoke in such a manufactured voice, he could work in sales and be dealing with a terrible customer but still upholding his work voice. Hangman hung up, giving you the phone back. – “Thank you!” – you let out relieved, bending a bit through your knees out of gratitude. – “So what do I get in return?” – Hangman asked.
“This beer?” – you suggested, placing your hand on the counter by it. Hangman tsked his tongue. – “Already paid for it sunshine.” – he said with a chuckle. – “Fine.” – you breathed out. – “I’ll clean your locker.” – you took out another suggestion as Hangman thought. – “How about wash my clothes?” – he responded. – “Deal.” – you agreed it was just that. Hangman shook hands with you to seal the deal.
He picked up his beer, throwing his arm over your shoulder. – “Who was the dude anyways?” – he asked, leading you to the others. – “My ex.” – you sighed out. Hangman looked half in shock at you. – “I didn’t know you dated someone.” – he called out as you had to shush his loud voice. – “It was like 6 months ago.” – you informed him.
“And he’s still calling you?” – Hangman blurted out as you hummed with a nod as response. – “I can’t shake him off.” – you sighed out nearing the booth with your friends. – “Well good thing your boyfriend saved the day.” – Hangman winked with a ridiculous smile. – “Not my boyfriend.” – you reminded him before sitting down.
Back in the locker room, you were washing Hangman’s attire. Washing them by hand as he called them delicate and needed to be handled with care. – “Uhm what are you doing?” – Phoenix asked seeing you in the locker room as she had walked by. – “Are those Hangman’s clothing?” – she pointed out when you had pulled it up to see if it was clean enough, revealing his nametag. – “Phoenix!” – you called out startled, splashing some water as your arms lowered immediately. – “Why are you washing his clothes?” – she wanted to know. – “I owe it to him.” – you responded, scrubbing his pilot gear.
“You dared to bet with Hangman. Bold.” – she answered impressed. – “It’s not that.” – you told her with a soft sigh. – “He did something for me, so I have to return the favour.” – you explained. – “Right.” – Phoenix widened her eyes briefly in delight. – “If your dad could see you know.” – she chuckled a bit. – “He’d flip that you fell so low.” You grunted soft. – “Good thing my dad.” – you emphasized. – “Can’t see me.” – you replied bitsy. – “Ohh cold touch.” – Phoenix teased touching her own shoulder. You scooped up some water, splashing it at her to wipe that smile off her face.
Phoenix screamed, dodging away when the water came her way. Half laughing, you teasing her with another scoop as she already darted away. When you were finished up with Hangman’s uniforms, you hung them neatly to dry. You came out of the lockers, making your way out of the hangar when you got pulled aside by Rooster. He pushed you firm up against the wall. – “Are you dating Hangman?” – called out at the brink of losing his mind. – “What?” – you responded confused.
“Are you dating him?” – Rooster wanted to know with a stern look. – “What, no, no…” – you replied waving your hands across. Rooster exhaled deep moving his fingers through his hair. – “Who told you this?” – you asked curious. – “Hangman has been bragging to everyone he’s dating you.” – Rooster let you know. Your eyes widened with shock.
You pushed Rooster a bit back, to make some room for you to leave. You needed to find Hangman and you needed to find him now. Jogging out of the hangar into the open. You saw a group of people near the F16’s going over to them. The closer you got, the clearer you saw Hangman amongst them.
“Hangman!” – you shouted drawing his attention. – “Looks like my girlfriend needs me.” – he said to Fanboy and Coyote all smug. Coyote rolled with his eyes as Fanboy shook his head. Hangman turned round to you, welcoming you with a warm smile. – “Yes my love.” – he said as you grabbed him firmly by the arm, dragging him away from the others. – “So eager.” – Hangman whispered to his friends with a chuckle. You came to a stop, letting harshly go of him.
“What are you doing?” – you called out giving him a little shove. – “Au.” – Jake mouthed pretending to be hurt from your shove. – “Jake!” – you called out wanting an answer out of him. – “What?” – he replied loud, making himself taller. – “Why are you telling everyone we are dating?” – you freaked out. Jake scoffed loud, turning his head away. – “Are we not?” – he answered cocky, wanting to slip his arm over your shoulder. It made you puff annoyed, crossing your arms.
“Oh come on Y/n, don’t be such a baby about it.” – Jake said taking you by the elbow, wanting you to uncross your arms. – “It’s a joke, sunshine.” – he kept tugging at your arm, trying to be smooth and cool at the same time. – “Sunshine!” – you suddenly heard loud, making you straighten your back. Hangman’s back straightened as well. Cyclone appeared coming to you. – “Iceman wants to speak to you.” – he said firmly, making your shoulders slouch. Jake was snickering quietly at you with a little point. – “He asked for both of you!” – Cyclone made clear, making Jake’s smile drop.
You tugged on his elbow, pulling him with you. Following Cyclone inside and up the stairs to Iceman’s desk. Cyclone knocked on the door, before popping his head inside. – “They are present.” – he said to Iceman. Cyclone stepped aside, expression flat as he allowed you to walk in. – “Tell me, am I hanging?” – Jake whispered to Cyclone wanting to know his outcome. Cyclone ignored him, giving him an extra shove into the room. – “Dad!” – you said with mixed expectations, opening your arms to a hug.
Iceman got up from behind his desk, coming to hug you. – “How is my little girl?” – he asked. – “Flying and thriving.” – you told him, making him form a smile on his lips. His gaze then shifted to Jake, who swallowed nervously. Iceman got all serious. He went to sit again, gesturing for you to sit as well. Jake and you sat down, unsure what to expect. – “So you are the one dating my daughter.” – Iceman spoke. – “Dad no…” – you blurted out, waving your hands across.
Iceman observed Hangman closely as it made him move uncomfortable in the chair. – “How’s his flying?” – he asked. – “Superb… sir.” – Jake replied loudly, humbling himself immediately. Iceman glanced your way. You could only smile sheepishly at him. – “I’m a bit saddened you didn’t tell me Y/n.” – Iceman began. – “But he looks decent enough. As long as he doesn’t hurt you… or else…” – Iceman gave Hangman his death stare.
Jake swallowed again. – “Dad we’re not…” – you began wanting to explain as Jake grabbed your hand out of the blue. – “No, no sunshine, it’s okay. He knows now.” – Jake spoke upholding the image of dating. You stared confused at him, why he would even want to go on with his stupid joke. – “Jake, this is my dad.” – you said between clenched teeth to him. Making it clear that he didn’t need to mess around. – “I’m so happy for you Y/n.” – Iceman said cheery.
“The man’s happy Y/n, let him be.” – Jake said to guilt trip you. You sighed soft letting yourself fall back in the chair. Jake got up. – “Well it was nice of you to call us in, sir.” – Jake said, nudging you to get up as well. Your dad chuckled happily at his manners as you could only roll your eyes. Jake extended his hand out to Iceman. Iceman took it to shake. – “I’m not one for favours, but if you ever need one for my daughter.” – he whispered to Jake with a wink.
Jake breathed out a laugh of surprise, glancing your way. Just to rub his it more in your face. – “Now we must really go.” – Hangman spoke tapping your elbow, to get you to follow. – “Give her a kiss.” – Iceman replied. Jake’s expression dropped. – “S’cuse me?” – he blurted out. – “Give her a kiss.” – he repeated gesturing at you.
Jake looked sheepishly at you, chuckling nervously. – “Sir truly…” – Jake began wanting to talk his way out of it. – “I want to see just how much you care for my daughter.” – Iceman persisted. Hangman took your hand, pulling you closer to give a kiss on the cheek. – “Give her a real kiss!” – Iceman shouted out of good sports. Jake sighed loud with a soft drop of his gaze. You raised your eyebrow at him, curious to see what he would do. He took you by the elbow, pulling you even closer.
“Just a quick one.” – he whispered to you. – “One second.” – you responded. Hangman held his finger up to his lips, looking all smug. He lowered his finger, giving you a quick nod before he’d kiss you. Your lips touched for a split second, pulling away quick. Iceman shook his head with disappointment. – “We have to go dad!” – you called out, opening the door. Dragging Jake with you out of his office. Downstairs, you let go of Jake.
“Your joke just escalated Hangman. Now my dad knows!” – you called out panicking. – “Hey you asked me to be your boyfriend.” – Jake replied loud. – “For like a few seconds.” – you shouted back. – “You asked for this Y/n.” -  Jake answered loud taking off. – “Where are you going?” – you called out to him. Jake turned around, pulling his shoulders up. It made you groan loud.
Phoenix and you were stretching before exercise. – “Boyfriend coming over.” – she pointed out, turning her torso, holding her arm by her elbow. You looked up seeing Hangman come over with the other boys. It made you look at her with a certain glance. Phoenix stopped, walking off when Hangman came near. She joined the others behind him. – “You know for a sunshine, you frown a lot.” – he pointed out, touching your forehead.
You slapped his hand away. He grabbed you by the shoulders, moving his head closer to you. – “Smile, your dad is going to watch.” – he whispered making you widen your eyes. Jake moved aside from you, throwing his arm over you as he led you to the others. Maverick, Cyclone and Iceman neared. You all followed Maverick to the beach for a match of rugby. A good team exercise Maverick would call it. Cyclone and Iceman sat down, watching the pathetic play of rugby.
Hangman and you were on opposite teams. Fanboy had the ball, throwing it at Coyote. Hangman jumped in front of him, catching the football before his eyes. He then ran with it to your side, throwing his hard on the ground. He called it out in victory, pointing towards Iceman. Iceman clapped for Hangman’s score. He then looked all smug at you. Phoenix nudged you as you rolled your eyes at him. Trying not to find it sweet. Rooster caught the ball wanting to throw it at you. You caught it, wanting to run when you got picked up from the ground.
Hangman had picked you up, making you squeal loud out of surprise. Your feet hit the ground again, as he kept his arms around you. – “Try getting out of this now, sunshine.” – he breathed out. You wriggled in his grip for freedom. When you weren’t getting any, you tried running. Hangman laughed loud, squeezing his arms tighter around you. – “Where are you going sunshine?” – he laughed out. You tried so hard not to laugh as well, not to enjoy it too, but you failed.
You stopped trying to run, laughing loud. You tossed the football over to Bob. You showed him your empty hands, showing him his attempt to stop you failed. Hangman picked you up in response, making you squeal again. He then pressed a kiss on your cheek so quick, he barely caught himself doing it. You turned round in his embrace, staring a bit at him. Jake stared back at you.
Swallowing, he let go of you, scratching his neck sheepishly. You looked blissful away. The two of you hesitantly got back into the game, questioning whether you were actually starting to like each other or that it was the drive of fake dating for a while now.
After practise, you were all exhausted. Having been playing till the sun had set. Worn out, you all decided to grab a few drinks at Penny’s bar. You went up to her bar as Jake followed. Almost instinctively. You held four fingers up to Penny, ordering beer. Jake leaned with his elbows on the counter, throwing you a smug smile. Your phone vibrated in your pocket. Confused, you pulled it out holding it to the front. Jake’s eye fell on the caller, taking the phone from your hand before you could react.
He picked up, turning around to lean against the counter with his back. – “What do you want?” – he said bothered. Your ex didn’t even have to finish his sentence when Jake spoke again. – “Listen asshole, if you call her one more time. I’ll make sure you’ll never see daylight again. You won’t see me coming. I’ll fly above your house, aiming for your pathetic bedroom and you’ll be burned to crisps in a matter of seconds.” – Jake threatened making you stare in shock at him.
“She doesn’t want you cause I’m her boyfriend. She’s mine and let me tell you ass, I don’t like sharing.” – Jake said over the phone. – “This was your last call or you’re dead!” – he angrily hung up the phone. – “Thank… thank you…” – you said astonished by how hot that was. Jake tugged your phone in his pocket.
Penny arrived with the drinks as he took them, motioning with his head for you to follow. You slid into a booth with him as the others were waiting. Hangman threw an arm over your shoulder, pushing you closer to him. It made you feel like squealing. The lines of pretend and real blurring away. Jake caught you staring at him, melting as he saw you smile like the sun back at him. He moved his head closer to you, wanting to kiss you in that moment, but caught himself just in time.
He shifted his head to the side, kissing your cheek instead. It didn’t feel satisfying, but he wouldn’t dare himself to kiss you out of the blue with everyone around. Your friends were so used to the two of you dating, they hardly had any eye for it. Not clear it was all an act, started from a joke. After an hour or two, checked Jake his watch. – “I’m taking Y/n home.” – he said removing his arm from you. He got out of the booth, taking you with him.
You said goodbye to the others. Jake grabbed your hand, walking out of Penny’s bar with you. Outside he was still holding your hand as it made you snicker soft. – “No one’s watching Hangman.” – you told him. Hangman looked at you with eyes full of affection. – “I know.” – he responded, pausing you. – “Are we still faking it?” – he asked catching you by surprise. Unsure, you pulled your shoulders up. That seemed to answer Hangman enough as he cupped your cheeks, kissing your lips.
The kiss was long, anticipating the moment till he could finally kiss you. His tender kiss moved to longing and desperation as his hands grabbed you tightly. You kissed him back, fully surrendering under his spell. The lines of fake dating having been shattered long ago.

I don't know if anyone else has posted this, but Lauren Polizzi (the art director for TGM) has a lovely online portfolio where she shares some of her creative thought processes and details from movies she has worked on. Including lots of details, fun facts, many photos of The Hard Deck, the ready room, the hangar, and a few other scenes!
Not only is it really interesting to see what went on behind the scenes, but the photos are also great references if you make any type of fanwork! Above are a few of the set photos she published and below is a link to the full post. I highly suggest checking it out!

You were late. Bob was going to kill you. Your brother was a stickler when it came to being on time. It came as no surprise to anyone in your family that he had gone into the military.
You rushed through the door, purse strap getting caught on the handle and you tugged it free, chest rising as you spun around, searching for Bob. He stood in the corner of the coffee shop, pristine in a khaki uniform, eyes wide behind his wire glasses.
“Hi Ducky,” he said as you tossed yourself into his arms, breathing in his familiar scent. He felt like home, even though it had been years since you and Bob had lived under the same roof. You had been barely a teen when Bob left for the Naval Academy, and his stints on land were far and few between after. His assignment to Top Gun was the first time he had settled somewhere on a more permanent basis. It’s why you decided to move to San Diego after college. All of your friends had scattered around the country – grad school in New York, policy analysts in Washington, even one friend had taken an internship with an art dealer in Miami. But you had packed up and left Tennessee with one goal. Be closer to your brother.
“Bobby,” you grinned, stepping back to admire him. Every time you saw him it was months apart and so much had changed, but also so little. He was the same Bob who had thrown you over his shoulder to win the family flag football game on Thanksgiving. The same Bob who had carried your book bag for you when you were in elementary school and he was a middle schooler and went a mile out of his way every morning to make sure you got to your homeroom class safe and sound. The Bob who always picked up, day or night, when you called. The Bob who listened to you weep about your college boyfriend who broke your heart. The Bob who took care of you when you were seven and had the flu and your mom was working a double shift at the hospital and couldn’t stay home with you.
“Ducky,” he said, dropping your hands. The familiar nickname on his tongue brought forward a flood of memories: spring weekends flying kites in the nearby park, sitting on the back of a tandem bike with Bob on a trip to Florida to visit your grandparents, the fort the two of you made the one time it snowed two feet in Tennessee in under a day in March. “This is my squad. Guys, meet my sister, Y/N.”
You tore your gaze from Bob, looking over at the table he was gesturing to, a smile plastered on your face. A beautiful brunette with pearly white teeth and a tight bun was on the far left. That was Phoenix. You had received a handful of letters from Bob talking about her. Next to Phoenix was a handsome, bulky man with a mustache in a plain blue t-shirt. Wow, he was gorgeous.
Your eyes shifted over one more, breath halting in your throat as your gaze slowly crept up. First you spotted the dog tags. Eerily familiar, but then again, a lot of military guys wore dog tags, right?
Then the chin. Ridiculously cut jaw, slight bifurcated butt chin that you had found weirdly adorable two nights before. Plump, pink lips, puckered up in a grin. You felt your heart sink. There was only one thing left. You raised your eyes to his. Clear, seafoam green. An ocean in two small orbs. He smiled as you screamed internally.
Bob’s voice drew you out of your coma. “That’s Bradley.” The mustache man waved a hand. “And Jake Seresin. Hangman.”
Jake. Your stomach did a somersault.
Last time you had seen him, you had been teetering on the edge of drunk, standing outside of the bar with one hand on the railing, the salty ocean wind licking at the sweat on your collarbone, flicking the ends of your hair up against your chin.
The next moment, his tongue was on your throat, in your mouth, fingers in your hair, pressing your body against the railing of the deck as you whimpered into his lips.
You had crept out of bed before he woke up. Just a gorgeous, tan, muscular back sticking out beneath crisp white sheets as you tugged on your short dress and called an Uber. You had expected to never see him again.
And here he was, smirking at you as your brother’s gaze narrowed.
You had fucked up. Correction. You had fucked Jake Seresin. And that was a major fuck up.
***
Bob had never been the type to have a huge friend group, or any close friends really. So the first time he called from Top Gun, giddy with excitement, you had been elated for him. Your brother deserved a tightly knit friend group.
Before you had moved to San Diego, Bob had filled you in on the group’s antics. Their flights, their wild nights out, the dynamics. But he had centered mostly on Phoenix and Rooster.
Jake had conveniently been left out of the majority of the conversation.
“Well?” Bob asked as the two of you headed back to his house in your rental car. “What do you think of the group?”
“They’re nice,” you said.
“That’s it? Nice?”
You sighed. “I’m really happy for you, Bobby. You have a good group of friends. I know that’s what you always wanted.”
Bob leaned back against the seat. You were the one person that Bob confided in. He was an open book and you could read him with one glance. Looking over, you spotted his furrowed brow, the tense way he was squeezing his knuckles together.
“Are you OK?” you asked, turning your eyes back toward the road, slowing down to take a right turn.
“Tell me you didn’t move here for me.”
“Then I’d be lying.”
“Y/N,” Bob said. His voice had taken on Big Brother™ mode. “You shouldn’t have done that.”
“Don’t you want me around?” you whispered.
“Of course I do,” Bob replied. “I just don’t want you to waste your life following me.”
“Living in California a waste?” you asked. “No way.”
“What’s the plan, Duck?”
“Not everyone was born potty trained and with a plan, Bobby.”
“You’re twenty-three,” he countered. “It’s time to be an adult and figure out what you’re doing with your life.”
“You sound like mom.”
“And we both know she’s never wrong.”
You sighed. “Just because you got your life together at seven doesn’t mean I have to.”
“Duck—”
You cut him off. “Bobby, please. It’s been a week. Give me a little time and I promise, I'll figure out what I’m doing. Just be my brother, OK, instead of acting like my dad.”
That silenced him. Bob had taken your father’s disappearance harder than you had. He put on a brave face. He stepped up. He became the man of the house. But that meant that he had taken it upon himself to be your brother and your dad. So even at twenty three he still saw you as a child.
The two of you drove the rest of the way back to Bob’s house in silence. Inside, you were just about to close the door to your guest bedroom when Bob’s voice floated down the hall.
“By the way,” he said, “I told the squad we’d go out for drinks with them tonight. It’s Jake’s birthday.”
You grimaced. “Sounds good.”
“Leave at nine?”
“Sure.” You closed the door, plopping down on the bed face first. You had moved to San Diego to figure your life out. And of course the first thing you had done was have a one night stand with one of Bob’s teammates. If he had been anyone else in the world you would have been able to avoid him.
What do you get someone for their birthday when you hoped you’d never see them again?
***
“Floyd!”
You turned at the same time as Bob. Bradley grinned. “Oh this is going to get confusing.”
“Here.” Natasha pointed to the bar stool next to her. “Have a seat. Boys will get you a drink. Bradshaw?”
Bradley tipped his head. “On it, ma’am.”
She rolled her eyes as you settled into the seat, crossing your legs beneath the short skirt. “So, Y/N. Bob’s told me all about his little sister. But he left out that you were coming to live here.”
“I’m not much of a planner.”
Phoenix laughed. “The anti-Bob. I like you already.”
“He’s told me a lot about you,” you replied. “And Bradley.”
“And nothing about Jake I’m guessing?” You nodded and Phoenix took a sip of her beer. “Trust me when I say, you don’t want to even go there.”
“Are you speaking from experience?”
Phoenix craned her neck around, making sure the two of you were out of earshot before nodding. “Just steer clear of him. That’s my suggestion. Hangman is fun for a night. But things get messy quick. And he and Bob have a little bit of a history.”
You frowned. “What kind of history?”
Just as Phoenix opened her mouth to respond, Bradley pressed a beer into your open hand. “Ducky.”
You grimaced. “Bobby, you didn’t!”
He shrugged. “Sorry.”
You rolled your eyes. “I’m so going to eat your last Pop-Tart tomorrow just to get you back for that.”
“Fill us in, will you?” Phoenix asked.
“When she was four, Y/N became obsessed with those little yellow rubber ducks that you put in your bath.” You groaned as your brother recounted the full story. How you had thrown a fit when your mother had tried to take you out of the bath and the only thing to calm you had been to fill your bed with the rubber ducks. And how the next morning that continued, one rubber duck gripped firmly in your chubby hand as you ate breakfast, went to the park, tagged along to the grocery store, went to daycare. This continued for weeks.
You didn’t want to admit to the team that you still had a rubber duck stuffed inside your suitcase back at Bob’s house. It was a safety net of sorts.
“Sorry, Duck,” Bob said, squeezing your shoulders and placing a small peck on the top of your head.
You looked up at him. His cheeks were flushed, he had a massive grin on his face. He was happy. All you had wanted in as long as you could remember was for Bob to be happy. He took your happiness more seriously than his own. It was time you returned the favor.
“Am I interrupting?” All eyes turned to Jake. He had on a tight black t-shirt and a pair of jeans with cowboy boots peeking out the bottom. He shot a grin your way and you did your best to avoid his eye contact.
“Happy birthday, Hangman.” There was a chill in Bob’s voice, or perhaps you were reading into it because of what Phoenix had said earlier.
Jake nodded. “Thanks, man. Anyone up for a game of darts?”
Bob dropped his hand from your shoulder, following Phoenix and Jake back toward the darts board on one end of the bar. You sat back in your seat, tipping the beer down your throat, watching as they played. There was an easy banter with all of them.
You finished your beer, the darts game still ongoing. Quietly, you slipped around the edge of the room, out the door that led to the back deck.
It was quiet outside, just the sound of the waves crashing against the hard sand and the soft hum of the music as it seeped through under the door and from behind the old windows. You laid your fingertips on the wooden railing, tipping your head back toward the moon that was slung low in the sky, feeling the cool breeze dry the sweat that had started to form on the base of your neck.
“Mind if I join?”
You turned. Jake stepped out onto the deck, a beer in one hand. He approached the railing, putting the green bottle down and smirking over at you. This time you were far less drunk. You shrugged. “It’s your birthday. Who am I to say what you can or can’t do?”
He frowned. “Don’t be like that.”
“Just because you’ve seen me naked doesn’t mean you know me.”
He looked bristled. “Y/N. I had no idea you were Bob’s sister when we met the other night. If I had known, I—”
“Wouldn’t have fucked me?”
He grimaced. “You’re the one that left without saying anything.”
You folded your arms over your chest. “It’s not like you were falling over yourself to drive me home. It was better that way and we both know it.” You allowed yourself to look up. God, he was stunning. Green, wide eyes. Tanned skin, the way his forearm flexed as he gripped the railing. You could remember the way his touch felt as he dragged his fingertips over your skin. You tried to shake the memory from your mind. “Just do me one favor.”
“Sure.”
“Don’t tell Bob,” you whispered. “Let’s just forget the other night ever happened.”
Jake’s gaze lingered. “If that’s what you want.”
You pushed up off of the railing. “It’ll be better, trust me.” You headed for the door, turning around at the last moment. Jake was still leaning against the railing, watching the waves in the dark. “Jake?”
He turned, green eyes wide. There was something almost sad about him, you thought. It was a fleeting glimpse, but you saw it.
“Happy birthday.”
He smiled. You turned, peering through the glass on the wood door. Bob had his head thrown back in a laugh as Bradley pounded against the piano keys and Phoenix danced. You smiled. Your brother was happy.
You weren’t going to ruin his perfectly crafted life by saying you had slept with one of his friends. It would be easier for everyone if you and Jake Seresin pretended you had never met before.
How would they ever catch you in your lie?

The only problem is, you have to lie to Bradley, and you discover that you love doing it if it means you get to be with him again.

Coffee for Mrs. Seresin?
Jake "Hangman" Seresin x Fem!Reader
Content warnings: Pining, fluff, and uh.... caffeine? Mild swears, Maybe some banter. I have no clue what qualifies as a warning anymore, I'm so sorry, y'all:') Also, sorry for the spelling, grammar, and punctuation errors.
A/n: Should I be doing math right now? Should I actually be sleeping right now? Yes and yes, BUT no one can blame me. I was reading an adorable Jake Seresin Fanfic by @roosterbruiser (everyone go read Millie's work, it's gold) and I got an idea and I had to write it somewhere so here:D
Tumblr media
You were pretty used to people assuming you and Jake were an item. When an attractive guy and an attractive girl have been friends since college and spend as much time together as you both do, you suppose it's a fair conclusion for people to draw, but an incorrect one, nonetheless. And you really wish people would stop asking because every time you had to explain to someone how you were "just friends," it ate you a little more inside.
The fact of the matter was this: you were in love with your best friend. And it sucked.
You stepped out of your car and strode along the stone walkway amidst the grass up to Rooster's door and rang the bell. It was a cute little townhouse with a blue exterior and you often poked fun at him for how much it resembled a little wooden birdhouse with its colorful walls and white wood-rimmed windows. You suppose it's fitting since Rooster lives there and yes, he hates that gag. It also serves as your group's prime hang-out spot, which is why you're here now.
The door opened to reveal Natasha, wrapped up in an oversized sweatshirt with her hair thrown up in a claw clip. "Yes, you brought chips!"
"Yeah, you didn't really specify which flavor so I just got them all." You said, walking in. "Guests should start coming in an hour, right?"
"Mmm-hmm." The 7 of you were throwing a casual party to celebrate Jake's promotion to Lieutenant-Commander. You saw Nat lift her eyes and smirk. "And there he is, the man of the hour." You turned around to see Jake at the end of the staircase.
"Well, hello, Mr. Man-of-the-hour," you teased, setting down the numerous bags of chips you were holding.
"Glad you're finally here, N/N. I was starting to think you were going to leave me here to fend for myself against Rooster's ABBA medley." Jake wrapped an arm around your shoulder and pulled you into his side. It was always like this. Him giving you butterflies you had to ignore because there was inevitably some other girl.
"Oh please, I would never leave you to fend for yourself against Rooster. I would join him and together, we'd overpower you and make you listen to ABBA forever." You grinned up at him and he narrowed his eyes, lips quirking up at the corners.
"Betrayal never comes from an enemy, I see," he shook his head at you. "I will leave you, lovely ladies, to yourselves. If you need me, I'll be in the kitchen." You watched Jake walk away and disappear around the corner. When you turned back, Natasha was still wearing that smug smile she always did when she saw you two. You knew it was coming.
"Nix, I'm telling you, if you say it, I'm salting your coffee." She knew you were messing with her but one of these days, you might just do it.
"All I'm saying is, shoot your shot! Come on, just once before you go settle for this rando."
"Mark is not a rando. We know him from accounting!"
"Exactly, Y/N, we know him from accounting. You don't even like the guy, heck you hardly know him."
"Exactly. That's why we're going to get to know each other at this party. I need to get over this crush, now. I can't keep pining for a guy who has no interest in me," you saw Natasha's mouth open as if to say something and you quickly jumped in, "And don't say he's interested. He's been with other girls multiple times and never once looked at me like that."
"True, I won't argue there. He's never looked at any of those girls the way he was just looking at you either." She took her hair out of her claw clip and it fell onto her shoulders in soft waves. "And ever since we all got back from that mission 3 months ago, he hasn't been with anyone. I really think he's got a thing for you but you're right. You should give this Mark guy a shot if you think he'd be good for you."
You smiled softly. You met Jake's friends when you were in San Diego a few years back. About a year ago, you were permanently stationed here and luckily for you, Jake was too. He settled here about 4 months before you. All his friends became your friends, and you've truly never known a better group of people. And they'd never known someone who could wrangle Hangman, so you were quite quickly welcomed to the group.
You and Pheonix tossed your sweatshirts upstairs and fixed up the last bits of your outfits just in time for guests to start arriving. You even managed to slip in a game of cards with Fanboy, Bob, and Payback before you joined a crowd in the living room. You barely felt the tap on your shoulder. If it wasn't followed by your name, you surely would have missed it. You turned on your heel to see Mark from accounting, facing you with a hand in his pocket.
"Mark, hi!"
"Hey. How are you?" His voice was almost monotone. His eyes roamed the room rather than meeting yours. He had just gotten here and he already sounded like he wanted to be somewhere else. You could have sworn he sounded more lively when you met.
"I'm good. I thought you weren't coming till later."
"I got off work early."
"Ah, well that's great." This guy really wasn't giving you much to work with. "Can I get you something to drink? There are drinks and food in the kitchen." That actually went somewhere. You headed to the kitchen where the conversation just barely picked up.
In the distance, Jake noticed your prolonged absence. As silly as it was, Jake liked knowing you were near him. You didn't have to be attached at the hip but he liked knowing he could saunter over to you and escape into your laugh when you came up in his mind. Which was a lot.
He scanned the room for you and stopped when he caught your frame in the kitchen...with some guy? Who the hell was that?
"Damn, if looks could kill...," Rooster muttered. "Do you not like that dude or something?"
"I don't even know who he is," Jake said through gritted teeth. "What's his name?"
"No clue. Pheonix?"
As if on cue, Natasha spoke up. "That, my friends, is Mark from accounting." Both the boys looked at her with questioning eyes.
"Okay, but who is he?" Something in Jake's voice was different now. Both of them looked at him.
"Careful there, Bagman, you almost sound jealous. He's some guy Y/N knows and I think she likes him." Phoenix was searching Jake's face for any sign that she was right about his feelings for you, and he never noticed because his eyes were trained on you like a hawk.
"I'm not jealous, Pheonix."
"You kinda sound jealous, Hangman," Rooster added, earning a glare from Jake.
"Okay, when we first met and you told me about her, you sounded so lovesick, I thought she was your wife. Cut to, you introduce us all and it turns out you're not married, or dating, but friends? I'm sorry, I do not believe that you two don't have feelings for each other." Natasha's remark sparked something in Jake. She watched the corners of his mouth twitch into a smirk so small, she almost missed it.
"I'll be right back." Jake stated, already pacing away. Rooster and Pheonix watched Jake make his way into the kitchen.
"She likes him too right?" Rooster asked.
"Oh, absolutely," Pheonix responded.
"You know, Fanboy has a betting pool on them."
"What? Get me on this, I have a feeling we'll make some money tonight."
Jake entered the kitchen to see you sitting alone at the table. "Got room for one more?"
"I don't see why not. Shouldn't you be mingling with everyone out there?"
"Well, the person I want to mingle with is in here." You smiled at him. There it was again, that smile that always left him utterly defenseless. "Who's the guy?"
You don't know why you felt your cheeks heat up when Jake asked about him. "His name's Mark. I met him when I was sorting reports last week."
"Okay. So, why do you sound so upset?"
"Because he said he was going to get us drinks 5 minutes ago and I just saw him leave with Commander Reeves' daughter." Honestly, you weren't upset because he left. You were upset because you were glad he did. He was boring you out of your mind and you two absolutely did not click, but it was still disheartening to know that this is what it was going to be like. No guy was going to measure up to the one you wished you were with. The one who was at this table with you now.
Jake was seething. What kind of idiot comes to a party and leaves you for some other girl? "You wanna get out of here?"
"What?"
"Let's leave. I'm bored."
"It's your party, you dork, you can't just leave!" You were giggling at a feeling somewhere in between confusion and disbelief.
"Yeah, it is my party so I say, you and I get out of here." He took you by the hand and walked you out through the back door to his car. And you let him. The chilly air swept you both up.
The drive was pretty calm. You didn't know where Jake was going but you didn't care either. This reminded you of when you two were younger. The long quiet rides in the car with no one but each other for company. He'd put on some cheesy 80's power ballad and you'd both laugh at it until you'd give in and belt it out at the top of your lungs.
"If you don't mind my asking, what did you see in him?"
"I don't really even remember. I think I just wanted to try and get myself out there. I haven't been on a date in literally years."
Jake hesitated before he asked. "So... what made you want to start now?" You felt the words catch in your throat.
"I'm not sure." you lied. You. I'm in love with you and I can't take it.
You felt the car slow down. You were so lost in your thoughts that you didn't even see where Jake parked. A cute little coffee shop and patisserie. Jake got out of his car and rounded the front to open the door for you. He already had you head over heels for him and he didn't even know it. Did he have to be such a gentleman? You weren't sure that you could fall even harder for this man but you really didn't want to find out.
"Why don't you get us a table and I'll get us something to drink. Don't worry, I remember what you like." You nodded and found a two-seat table by the french windows overlooking the city. On the left, in the distance, the last light of sunset was hitting the water and the top of the sky had started to go dark. Little stars twinkled above you. You wondered what it would be like to always be like this? Evenings with you and Jake, running off alone together from places and people you didn't really want to see. Taking comfort in each other's presence because it felt like home. Just then, Jake sat down in front of you. It almost hurt knowing he was right in front of you and you couldn't have him.
"Screw stupid Mark from accounting. He was not worth your time."
"Thanks. It's fine really, I'll find someone else. Someone less boring." When you met Jake's eyes, he looked as if he had something to say. Something he was holding back. "What is it?"
"Don't find someone else."
Did he just- Did you hear him right?
"What? Why?"
"Because-"
"I have a coffee and a latte for Mr. and Mrs. Seresin?" The barista called. You actually felt your heart skip a beat. Your eyebrows scrunched together and you looked to Jake for answers.
"Well, I think that's us." He blurted like it answered all your questions, a smile heard in his voice.
"Mr. and Mrs. Seresin?" You queried, rising out of your seat in tandem with him. "Why'd you tell her we were 'Mr. and Mrs. Seresin?!'"
"Because you looked so down and I thought I'd get a reaction from you! And it's not all my fault, Pheonix gave me the idea." Jake stated, matter-of-factly. How could he say that so casually?! "And you're still looking red so I guess it worked."
You both grabbed your coffees and sat down once again. It was dark out now. Once your laughs and giggles over your reaction were out, you remembered where your last conversation left off.
"Jake, why'd you tell me not to find someone?" You didn't force the question too hard into the conversation. You asked softly, not knowing how or if he would answer. He sighed before he spoke like he was preparing himself.
"Because...because I can't ask you out if you're dating someone else." The emotions hit you like a bombshell.
"You want to ask me out?" You weren't sure this was real. You were really about to pinch yourself before he stopped you in your tracks.
"I've been meaning to for months. Y/N, we've been friends forever, and I didn't want to ruin what we have. I know I should have told you before because I've liked you for as long as- Why are you smiling?"
"Because, you big dummy, I like you too." You couldn't hold it back. You were beaming. You felt butterflies and fireworks all at once just because the man of your dreams just made it all a reality. Jake held your eyes in his and smiled ear-to-ear. You swore you saw his ears go red but if you asked him, you doubt he’d admit it. "I'm really happy right now but I have no clue what to do next."
"I've got it from here," Jake reaches out and takes your hand in both of his. It feels like electricity is coursing through your veins. "Y/N L/N, would you do me the honor of going on a date with me?"
It took everything in you not to squeal in this coffee shop. "Yes, I will do you that honor, Bagman." You responded. He chuckled at you.
"Every now and again, I feel like introducing you to Pheonix was a mistake."
"Speaking of which, I really want to tell her about this but she'll get all smug because she was right."
"You're right. As far as people we don't have to tell yet go, Fanboy and Rooster have been betting on us. We can just keep it from them for now too."
"Deal." A laugh bubbled out of you as you thought about how the squad would react. And then a knock sounded directly next to you on the french window.
"Aww, cute," Rooster noted, his voice muffled by the glass, but still clear enough for you to hear his teasing tone.
"Left your own party so soon?" There stood Pheonix. Along with the rest of the squad leaning against Bradley's bronco.
"Shit." you commented.
"So much for keeping it secret."

Maverick never exactly looked forward to meeting his daughter’s partners.
Maybe it was because he was a little worried that he didn’t exactly give her a healthy example to follow. Maybe it was because he was just trying to compensate for all of the times that he wasn’t there for her when she was little. Maybe it was because he was just a smidge overprotective.
But either way, he never looked forward to meeting his daughter’s partner.
So, when she told him that she was inviting over her new partner for dinner, and mentioned that he already knew her partner, Maverick was given a new mission—to answer the door before her. He wanted to see if her partner could cut it on their own without his daughter coaching them through every step of this new dynamic.
And when the doorbell rung five minutes ahead of schedule, Maverick sprang into action.
“I got it!” he called up the stairs to his daughter.
“No, I’ll get it, Dad!”
“No, no, it’s fine,” Maverick insisted, reaching for the front door.
Twisting the knob, Maverick flung the door open and paused when he saw who was standing on the other side of the door.
[Pick Your Dagger:]
Rooster
Rooster stood on the front steps of the Mitchell house, nervously shifting his weight around.
“Why did you ring the doorbell, Bradley? Just go through the side entrance,” Maverick instructed Rooster, completely missing the point of Rooster’s arrival. He held the door open and stepped aside. “But my daughter’s new partner is coming for dinner. You’re free to join us if you like, but it might be a little awkward.”
“Uh . . . yeah . . .” Rooster trailed off, really wishing that his girlfriend would get down the stairs already. “I was . . . going to stay.”
“Yeah, that’s fine. I’ll just set out another plate.”
Rooster stared after Maverick like he’d grown a third head as he walked off to reset the dinner table. Shaking his head, Rooster glanced up at the stairs as his girlfriend hurried down them, smiling at his appearance. Rooster shut the front door behind him and held out his arms as his girlfriend threw herself at him.
“Hey,” she giggled, pressing a loving kiss to his lips, “how’d you survive?”
“Well, he seems to think that you’re bringing someone else home,” Rooster explained sheepishly, causing her to raise an eyebrow.
“You didn’t tell him that you were my boyfriend?”
“Well . . .”
Letting out a sigh, she grabbed her boyfriend’s hand and pulled him with her down the hall. Maverick was in the middle of setting down another plate when the young couple walked into the room. Maverick looked up and smiled at them. But he froze when he caught sight of their intertwined hands. Maverick straightened up and glanced erratically between Rooster and his daughter.
“You . . . you’re dating my daughter . . . Bradley?” Maverick asked his godson, who started to sweat a bit.
“Yes, we’re dating,” Baby Mitchell answered on Rooster’s behalf. “We have been for four months.”
“This is some kind of joke, right?” Maverick tried to laugh off, but Rooster and Baby Mitchell’s expressions did not change. “Right?”
“No, it’s not,” she replied calmly. “Rooster is my boyfriend. We’re dating. I invited him over for dinner. So, let’s have dinner.”
Baby Mitchell led the way over to the table and sat down in her seat. Maverick shot Rooster a look and in response Rooster simply shrugged his shoulders and followed after his girlfriend.
~~~~~
Hangman
Hangman offered Maverick a curt nod and his usual smile-smirk-combination.
“Hey, Mav—”
Maverick slammed the door shut and locked it, just to be sure. Shaking his head, Maverick glanced up at the stairs as his daughter hurried down them.
“Who was at the door?” she questioned, looking confused.
“Just . . . a delivery driver.”
“Where’s the package then?” Baby Mitchell demanded, frowning at him.
“Well, that’s the funny thing—”
The doorbell cut off Maverick’s lie and caused his daughter to shoot him an aggravated expression. Reaching around him, she unlocked the door and pulled it open to see Hangman still standing on the front steps of the Mitchell home.
“Really?” Baby Mitchell scoffed at her dad before letting her boyfriend inside.
“Oh, Hangman, I didn’t see you standing there,” Maverick lied poorly.
“Frankly, I was expecting worse,” Hangman told his girlfriend, who shook her head in response.
“Dad, Jake is my boyfriend and I invited him over,” Baby Mitchell began, trying to keep the aggravation out of her tone. “So, you can’t go around slamming doors in his face just because you don’t like the fact that we’re dating. Okay?”
“I . . .” Maverick trailed off when he caught his daughter’s annoyed expression. “Alright, alright.”
Baby Mitchell shook her head before turning for the dining room. She grabbed Hangman’s hand and pulled him along with. But, while her back was turned, Maverick shot him the ‘I’ve-got-my-eye-on-you’ gesture with his fingers. Hangman nodded in return, but Maverick didn’t miss the slightly nervous look that he wore.
~~~~~
Phoenix
Phoenix gave Maverick a sarcastic mock salute as the door swung open. Standing confidently on the front steps, Phoenix straightened up.
“Hey, Mav.”
“Hey, Phoenix,” he returned with a nod. He held the door open for Phoenix and she stepped inside. “So, you’re the one who gave my daughter a hickey two weeks ago?”
Phoenix blinked, clearly a bit caught of guard, before her usual confident demeanor returned. Phoenix nodded in response and didn’t let her nerves show.
“Yes. But, to be fair, you weren’t supposed to see that.”
“I assumed,” Maverick replied, nodding along. After another moment of thought, he shrugged his shoulders nonchalantly. “Well, at least you can’t get her pregnant.”
“You’re not going to give me a shovel talk?” Phoenix asked Maverick, folding her hands over her chest.
“I like to give it at the end,” Maverick assured Phoenix while his daughter hurried down the stairs. “Let’s me personalize it a little better.”
“Hey, babe,” Baby Mitchell called, pulling Phoenix in for a quick peck. Turning to Maverick, Baby Mitchell shot him a look. “I hope that he wasn’t too overprotective.”
“No, he was fine,” Phoenix assured her girlfriend with a small smile. “Though we have a debriefing scheduled for after dinner.”
“Dad.”
“What? I would do the same if she was a man.”
The two girlfriends shared a look and Phoenix shrugged her shoulders in response. Baby Mitchell let out a groan and shook her head.
“Fine,” she muttered, grabbing Phoenix’s hand. “Well, come on. Let’s get you some dinner first before you’re interrogated.”
~~~~~
Bob
Bob offered Maverick his usual awkward smile. Maverick blinked once in surprise before he let out a humorous breath of relief.
“Bob, I’ve never been happier to see you,” Maverick chuckled, holding the door open for the WSO.
“Really?” Bob asked curiously, walking inside the house.
“Yeah, I was worried that she was bringing Hangman home,” Maverick replied with a light chuckle, closing the door. “But I’m glad to see that I was completely wrong.”
“Thank you?” Bob returned quietly.
“Hey, babe,” Baby Mitchell called out to Bob as she walked down the stairs. “Glad to see that the dragon guarding the castle didn’t hurt you.” She hurried over and pulled Bob in for a quick kiss in greeting before turning to her dad. Leaning against her boyfriend, she smiled brightly as she glanced between them. “Should we sit down and start dinner then?”
“Yeah, I’ll start bringing stuff out from the kitchen,” Maverick agreed, walking off.
When Maverick’s back was turned, Bob reached out and grabbed Baby Mitchell’s ass playfully. She giggled and pressed a heated kiss to his lips that Bob eagerly returned. Reluctantly pulling away, she leaned towards his ear.
“We should go. Don’t want him to get suspicious,” she whispered to Bob.
“Alright. But . . . later?” he suggested, giving her ass another light pat.
“Absolutely,” she agreed with a wide smile.
~~~~~
Coyote
Coyote offered Maverick a small, nervous smile. Maverick paused for a moment before opening the door wider for him.
“So, you’re dating my daughter, Coyote?” he asked as Coyote stepped inside the house.
“Yes, sir,” Coyote returned politely.
“You don’t have to call me that,” Maverick replied, closing the door. “Yet, anyways.”
“Yet?” Coyote repeated, confused.
“I only make my daughter’s boyfriends call me ‘sir’ if I don’t like them,” Maverick explained quietly to Coyote, trying to prevent his daughter from overhearing. “And, frankly, as long as you don’t toss me out of my own home and onto my own lawn, I think that you’ll be okay.”
“I appreciate that, s—Mav,” Coyote corrected himself.
The sound of footsteps caused both aviators to look up. Baby Mitchell walked down the stairs with a bright smile when she spotted Coyote. Reaching the bottom of the stairs, she pressed a quick peck to his lips before turning to her dad.
“Did you get the shovel talk out of the way, then?” she asked sarcastically, leaning against Coyote.
“Not yet,” Maverick replied before turning to Coyote. In a quieter voice, he added, “We’ll get to that after dinner.”
Baby Mitchell gently shoved her dad away from her boyfriend and shook her head.
“Honestly, I’m not sixteen anymore.”
“Well, I like Coyote a lot more than the boy that you were seeing when you were sixteen,” Maverick conceded, causing his daughter to wince.
“Who was—” Coyote started to ask.
“—No one!” Baby Mitchell interjected.
~~~~~
Fanboy
Fanboy smiled nervously at Maverick as the door swung open. Maverick could tell that the WSO was nervous if the way that he fidgeted was any indication, but Fanboy was doing his best not to show it. Unfortunately for him, Maverick was very observant.
“Hey, Maverick,” Fanboy greeted him politely with a slow nod.
“Hey, Fanboy. Come on in,” Maverick replied, holding open the door for him. Fanboy stepped inside and Maverick shut the door behind him. “So, you’re the flyboy who’s dating my daughter?”
“Yeah, I am,” Fanboy agreed confidently, though with an edge of concern. He glanced up the stairs for his girlfriend before turning back to Maverick. “Do you have a problem with that?”
“No, not yet,” Maverick replied calmly, shaking his head. “And between you and me, backseaters tend to be more . . . stable than their pilot counterparts. So, that helps you as well.”
“Well, I don’t disagree with that,” Fanboy chuckled before his girlfriend started down the stairs.
“Hey, amor,” Baby Mitchell called down to her boyfriend.
She hurried the rest of the way down and greeted Fanboy with a quick peck to the lips. She grabbed his hand and turned back to her dad.
“Everything okay, Mr. Overprotective?” she asked Maverick.
“Wouldn’t he be Captain Overprotective?” Fanboy quipped, earning a groan from his girlfriend and a distinct ‘dad’ laugh from Maverick.
“I like him,” Maverick chuckled, pointing over at Fanboy. “Come on, let’s go eat.”
~~~~~
Payback
Payback nodded and smiled confidently at Maverick as the door opened. Maverick shot Payback a small smile in return and held the door open.
“Are there any bets on how tonight goes then?” Maverick asked as he let Payback inside the house.
“A few,” Payback agreed, nodding along. “Why? Did you want to place your own bet?”
“No, no, I try not gamble. But, out of curiosity, is there a way to make sure that Hangman doesn’t win . . . at all? And maybe Rooster a little bit too.”
“You can’t threaten to chase after me in a F-18, you can’t make a joke about the two hundred pushups, and . . .” Payback trailed off, trying to remember the rest of the bets. “You have to greet me like you would a son-in-law tomorrow on base. But that last one is only if you want Rooster to lose.”
“How much money?”
“Fifty bucks each.”
“Well, his mother taught him not to gamble, so Rooster should have paid more attention,” Maverick replied, clearly taking the bet.
“Hey, babe,” Baby Mitchell called down to Payback, walking down the stairs. She gave him a quick hug and peck before glancing between Payback and Maverick. “Everything going well so far?”
“So far,” Maverick agreed with a nod and smile. “And by this time tomorrow, both Payback and I will be fifty bucks richer.”
“Good. Because that was the whole point of this dinner,” Baby Mitchell replied sarcastically. Grabbing Payback’s hand, she turned for the dining room. “Come on, let’s go eat.”

Friday
It was well past midnight and Natasha still hadn't talked to Bob. She had stood outside the door to the guest room for a long time, torn between leaving him alone and letting him come to her when he was ready - and brutally kicking down the door to just get it over with. Violence really wasn't the answer to anything - except sometimes it was.
Instead she found herself in her bed, fingers hovering over the keyboard on her phone. She knew Bob wasn't going to come knocking on her door, and she wanted - she needed - to talk to him now. She hated the thought of him hurt and alone in his room down the hall, and she hated even more that he was hurt because she hadn't protected him.
Nat: Are you awake?
Bob: Yes.
His response was so swift that Natasha wondered if he had been waiting for her to text him. Her hands trembled, her mouth felt like sandpaper. He wasn't ignoring her. That was a good sign. The nervousness that had filled her stomach for most of the evening was slowly replaced with something lighter, some relief.
Nat: We need to talk.
Bob: Yes. Now?
Natasha tossed the covers aside and padded across her room to open the door. The door handle seemed to move on its own accord and she let out a faint cry of surprise when she opened the door and there was some weight to it. Someone stood on the other side and they faltered slightly with the opening door, though quickly regaining their balance. In the harsh, blueish light from a phone, she saw it was Bob.
She grabbed his hand, guided him inside her room and closed the door behind him. The tiny lamp on her bedside table revealed him in an uneasy state with his jaw clenched and wide eyes. His fast-paced breathing slowed after a few moments, and his gaze settled softly on her. She found herself unable to look away, rather enjoying the way his eyes lit up behind his glasses when he looked at her. She had always found him a handsome man, but her feelings for him now took her attraction to him to a whole new level. He was ridiculously good-looking with a few sandy curls falling onto his forehead and the corners of his mouth turned ever so slightly upwards. His breathing may have slowed but Natasha's was increasing.
"You scared me," she whispered with a little smile.
"Yeah, you scared me, too," Bob replied, glancing down at their still clasped hands.
"How long have you been standing outside my door?" she asked, narrowing her eyes at him in an attempt to make it seem less weird that she had been the one to text him in the middle of the night.
Bob chuckled. "Literally seconds."
Natasha's smile faded as she took a deep breath. She looked down at the ground, scraped her foot almost childishly on the floor and asked, "Are you mad at me?"
"Nix, I could never be mad at you." Her eyes snapped up at his, and he offered her a tiny smile as he squeezed her hand. "I'm not mad at your brothers either. I know what they're doing."
Natasha's face settled into one of momentary embarrassment. "I am so sorry for the way they treated you."
"It's okay, they weren't being mean. I didn't …" He sighed. "I didn't leave dinner because of the way they behaved."
"No?" Her eyes searched his, deep and desperately, for any telltale sign of what was to come. All she saw was tenderness.
"No. I left because I suddenly realised - remember the girl I told you about, who I was certain wasn't into me the same way I was into her? - well, I realised she may be into me in the same way after all. And that … That made me panic."
Natasha let out a breath she didn't know she had been holding. "Oh?"
"Yeah. Because she and I have this amazing, special friendship, and what will happen to that friendship when she also realises that we probably feel the same for each other?"
Though his hand was shaking almost unnoticeably, his voice was calm and steady. Natasha found it difficult to concentrate on his words when he held her hand very lightly and traced his thumb over her knuckles. His touch felt like a feather brushing smoothly across her skin, setting her all the more on edge. She swallowed hard, her mouth suddenly dry again.
"Well, if you wanna hear what I think-" She stopped to see him nodding, musing at the sudden roughness of her own voice, "I think you should tell her exactly how you feel. Tell her everything."
Bob chuckled again. He inched closer to Natasha, so close she could just detect the warmth of his body and his scent. It sent her senses reeling. She picked up the small noises he made as he pondered his words before uttering them. She found it endearing.
"Well, first of all, she's a complete badass in a jet. No comparison, one of the best pilots I've ever had the privilege of flying with. She makes me feel safe."
Natasha looked up at Bob with a shy smile and he returned the sentiment.
"She's so intelligent that I sometimes feel like a fool. Her handwriting is terrible, but she still writes brilliant notes. And she lets me read them."
She gasped at his words and giggled faintly. Bob reached down to hold her other hand against his chest, her palm pressing into his racing heartbeat. It sent trembles through Natasha's entire body, and she could barely keep herself from sighing longingly.
"She's funny as hell and her cute, little giggle drives me crazy. I want to hear her laugh at my stupid jokes all day long."
Bob tucked a stray strand of hair behind her ear. His hand lingered against her cheek and Natasha pressed into his touch, looking deep into his eyes.
"She is the fiercest player on the soccer field. She is selfless. She is kind and loyal, and she is affectionate in her own, unique way."
Natasha gasped again with a grin and pinched his chest with the hand that still rested on top of his heart. He chuckled a little in response.
"She's the most gorgeous woman I've ever seen. I could get lost in her beautiful eyes forever. And don't even get me started on those lips of hers. I can't stop thinking about them."
He had leaned closer as he spoke, his lips now hovering just an inch from her ear. His warm breath on her skin had her own breath catching in her chest. Natasha didn't know where to look and she settled for closing her eyes. Her remaining senses once again went into overdrive as the feel of his hard chest against hers and his earthy scent had her dizzy with want, heat stretching to and from places in her body she didn't think possible. She placed her hands on his shoulders to steady herself.
"She's my best friend, and I'm in love with her," he whispered. There was something very fragile and very precious in his tone. Natasha knew exactly how vulnerable he felt at this moment. "And I'm terrified of losing our friendship."
They stood quietly for a moment, their heavy breathing the only sound permeating the near darkness of her room. Natasha wanted to cry. It was there, finally out in the open. And it meant much more to her than she thought possible. She needed somewhere to put her feelings, to show him how much she cared. If she didn't soon, she might combust from all the pent up emotions.
"Bob?" She pulled away enough to look into his eyes. One of her hands slipped from his shoulder to his neck, and she played with the hair there absentmindedly. "I can't wait any longer. I need to know."
"Need to know what?" Now it was his turn to search her eyes deeply for any hint on what her next move was. Her dark eyes revealed little else than mischief. It would be so easy to simply turn her head and-
"What kissing you feels like."
He looked surprised, eyebrows raised high and unable to keep a goofy smile off his face. "Oh."
The slight push of Bob's shoulders that came with Natasha pressing her lips to his was enough to make him take a step backwards. He made a startled noise when his back met the door. Natasha apologised playfully against his lips, soon finding their balance with her arms around his neck and his around her waist. Their lips met again. The surge in Natasha's stomach let her know just how right it all felt.
The kiss was short and sweet, just enough to satisfy the worst of her curiosity, not enough to satisfy her hunger for him. She placed her head on his shoulder, tightening her grip on him in a hug, standing on her toes to embrace him comfortably. He did the same, burying his face in her neck. She felt him exhale deeply and he practically melted into her embrace.
"Hey," she whispered, "Are you okay?"
He pulled away to look at her for a second before resting his forehead against hers. He closed his eyes and breathed deeply again. The intimacy of their closeness suddenly had her entire body trembling.
"I'm okay," he replied softly. "I'm home."

This Love Came Back to Me: You and Bradley hadn’t ended on bad terms; truly, you stopped before the two of you could even really begin. Still, in the last seven months, you had never completely left his mind. So when you suddenly appeared in front of him at the bar, asking for a favor and pulling him into a kiss, he thought maybe it was the perfect opportunity to see if this time, things could be different. But what neither of you realized was that there’s more going on than just rekindling a lost romance, and it might not be as easy as simply just wanting it. (completed)
One Shots:
✨ Bradley Bradshaw:
A Change to Everything: Marriage wasn’t an option for you. Bradley knew this and had promised you that what you had is and would always be enough for him. A few overpriced rings wouldn’t change that, so long as you promised to love him forever without one. But he buys you one anyway, and despite every promise you made to yourself, you wonder what it would be like if maybe, just maybe, you ever decided to put it on.
What Goes Around (Comes Around): Bradley didn’t do relationships, and neither did you. The arrangement you had worked perfectly for ten years, getting together whenever your paths crossed. But after the two of you were stationed permanently on the same squad, suddenly what you have isn’t quite enough for him anymore. It’s not until a close call in the air that he finally gathers the courage to admit it.
To Make a House a Home: House hunting in California was proving to be a challenge. Leave it to Bradley to manage to pull off the biggest surprise you’ve ever gotten.
The Art of Subtlety: You were quiet, almost shy, but Bradley suspected there was more to you than meets the eye. When Jake claims that it’s impossible for a woman to successfully fake an orgasm, you prove him wrong (while proving Bradley absolutely right) right there in the middle of the Hard Deck. With his world tilted on its axis at your little display, he’s left wondering: why are you so good at faking it, and how would you really sound if he’s the one bringing you pleasure?
Dancing in the Dark: Bradley was never one for clubs. Flashing lights, dance remixes of the same four songs, and overpriced watered down drinks just weren’t his thing. But you had begged him so prettily to go with you that he couldn’t help but agree. It was exactly as bad as he thought it was going to be, but when he saw how irresistible you looked on the dance floor, he decided to get his revenge in a way that left both of you satisfied but wanting more.
Clandestine Meetings: Bradley was coming home today. Six weeks on a no-contact deployment, stuck on a carrier in the middle of some non disclosed body of water, and he’s finally coming home. Normally, you’d be bursting at the seams with happy excitement. But the two of you had left things in an...interesting place. When he’s finally standing in front of you, you can tell by his cold and dark eyes that he remembers, too. But he’s had six weeks to think of exactly how you can earn his forgiveness, and you’re all too willing to do anything it takes.
Keep It Undercover: You and Bradley had shared a few beautiful weeks together, years after first meeting. You had been content with leaving it as a beautiful, delicious memory; something that could have been, if the stars would have aligned. Only now he was stationed in Fightertown permanently, and while he didn’t know what exactly that meant for the two of you long term, he knew what he wanted. He didn’t care about your age or that you outranked him. After all, he had always liked his girls a little bit older.
The Over/Under: Your friends insisted that the best way to get over someone was by getting under someone else. But you had been over your ex for a long time before you ever signed the papers, and you had no intention on hooking up with anyone. Then an attractive man with a mustache that really shouldn't look as good as it does catches your eye, and you suddenly forgot why you were hesitant in the first place.
✨Javy Machado:
I Don't Love You Like I Used To: After so many years with you, Javy Machado doesn't love you like he used to. He loves you so much more. For roosterforme's #love is in the air tgm Writing Challenge!
The Double Negative Effect: Javy knows deep down after he goes into G-LOC that he’s not going to be selected for the mission. He goes to a bar on his own to drink away some of his sorrows, and while he’s there, he meets someone who is having just as rough of a time as he is. Misery loves company, and together, they cancel out the bad day the other is having, replacing it with a night they’ll remember for all the right reasons.
And I Want To Make Her Mine: Javy thought it was too good to be true when he saw you, the girl he had crushed on for almost a year, standing in the Hard Deck. But there you were, looking just as beautiful as you always had. He thought maybe he’d finally get his chance with you after all this time. Unfortunately, he wasn’t the only one whose attention you caught.
Merry Christmas Mishaps: Christmas looked a little different this year, and Javy knew you were having a hard time adjusting to it. You were used to the lights and the hustle and - God help him, the snow - that came with where you had called home for so long. You had given all that up to move to California to be with him, and he decided that if he couldn’t get you back on the east coast for the holiday, maybe he could improvise and start making new traditions here together, with a few surprises along the way.
The Great Escape: All you wanted on your wedding day was some time alone with your new husband. Luckily for you, Javy was more than game to make an escape and has just the hiding place in mind.
An Aviation Special: You had always wanted to experience Mardi Gras in New Orleans, but when it starts to go sideways thanks to your travel companions, you fear the whole trip, maybe even the whole city, has been ruined for you. But then a handsome stranger swoops in when some drunk idiot gets too handsy, and your night takes an unexpected turn for the better.
The Plus One: You couldn’t believe he was here. He had told you he would be, over and over again, but part of you had convinced yourself it was too good to be true. There was no way a man as perfect as Javy Machado would be so into you after you spent one night together, months ago, that he’d fly out to be your date to a wedding for people he’d never met before. Yet here he was, looking as good as a dream. By the end of the night you knew one thing for certain: a weekend with him would never be enough.
✨Javy Machado x Natasha Trace (Navy):
Repeated Offenses: Javy wasn’t sure what the mission was that called them back to Top Gun, but he knew if he was there, Phoenix would be too. He seeks her out that first night, knowing that it would be the same game between them as it always was. One of them was bound to get burned one of these days, but luckily for him, he’s never been afraid of playing with fire.
✨Jake Seresin:
Flight Suit Aphrodisiac: There was something about seeing Jake in his flight suit that got to you every single time. It had always been attractive, sure, but nowadays it was like something of an aphrodisiac. It didn’t matter what you were doing or where you were; when you saw him in it, you had to have him.
Twin Fire Signs: When the majority of your squad intentionally leaves you drunk and alone at a bar, you resign yourself to finding your own way home and dealing with your wounded pride in peace. But then your phone rings, the name of the last person you expected to be calling you on a Friday night flashing on your screen. You know you shouldn’t answer, but too much tequila has never led to great decisions.
Cowboy Resolutions: New Year’s Eve at the Hard Deck with all of your friends was a tradition, one that you loved and held close to your heart. When you and your husband decide to slip away from the crowd for a late night stroll on the beach right before midnight, you realize that neither of you had the purest of intentions when it came to wanting to get away.
A Verbal Agreement: You hated Jake Seresin. Truly, you did. Or at least you strongly disliked him. But as it was, he did something for you that no other man could, and it kept you coming back for more.
✨Jake Seresin x Natasha Trace (Hannix):
Hell Bent, Heaven Sent: Truthfully, Jake didn’t like anything that she made him feel. Annoyed. Inferior. Submissive. But she also made his heart speed up and his palms sweat and despite everything he felt better when she was with him. Natasha Trace made him question everything about himself.
