Writeblr Intro: Jan. 2023 Edition

Hi there, fellow readers and writers! I’m Claris (she/her).

I originally had this blog under the name mysticalauthoress, but changed it to clarislam in April 2022 to be more aligned with myself as a writer.

I write a wide variety of works such as poetry and fiction. I also post book reviews and fanfics weekly, though expect more of my focus to be on original works this year!

Fiction:

I published the first book in my murder mystery series, “Winner Takes All: A Harlow Mystery” in June 2022, and you can click here for more details about it! Please feel free to support me by buying a copy, spreading the word about it, or even requesting your library to get it in their e-catalogue. I appreciate all the support in my writing journey.

I’ve also had some short stories and poetry published in various literary magazines and collections, and I hope to have more pieces published this year!

Current WIPS:

"An Engagement To Die For:” The sequel to “Winner Takes All,” the murder mystery that I self-published last year (June 2022)! It’s currently going through some beta readers at this time.

“Sadie And The Search For The Missing Necklace:” A kidlit fantasy book inspired by Gwyneth Rees’ Fairy Dust series and Daisy Meadows’ Rainbow Fairy series. The title is not final, and should be considered a working title until further notice. 

A fantasy novel inspired by the video game series King’s Quest. I am currently still writing its first draft. I hope to figure out a working title by the time I finish writing the draft!

Fanfiction:

You most likely know of my writing fanfiction for The Last Story, Bravely Default/Second, or even Escape The Night. 

Recently, I started posting chapters for a new The Last Story/Super Smash Bros. crossover fanfic! You can read it on either Fanfiction.net or Archive Of Our Own!

Hi @mysticalauthoress, I was your Secret Santa! Sorry this is a bit after Christmas. I decided to do three things:

That's a wrap on S3!

So, EtN is done. I absolutely loved the finale, specially since it pretty much assures us that there will be a season 4.

So, I saw the amazing @mysticalauthoress doing this, so I decided to give it a go. It's a little Q&A about the season, so here we go!

1. Favorite character this season?

Either Safiya, Mat or Ro. They were all so amazing in their one ways, and I sure hope that we'll see Saf and Ro on the Undead Season! Also, Safiya shouldn't have died. #ImASaltyBitch

2. Favorite villain this season?

That's a tough one. But, I have to say the Witches. They were pretty badass, even though they killed Ro. Not cool, Badass Witches. Not. Cool.

3. Favorite episode this season?

Control Issues was pretty cool. But Funhouse was too. And so was The Carnival Master. DON'T MAKE ME CHOOSE PLEASE

4. Favorite scene this season?

Ugh, so many! I loved Ro and Mat on the Ferris wheel, and Mat being revived... there were way to many to count!

5. Favorite thing overall about this season?

The fact that they brought the spookyness back! One thing I didn't like about season 2 was that it just became too fantastic, and the fear factor we had on season 1 just vanished. I loved that it was more scary, although season one was that bitch

6. Least favorite thing about this season?

I don't know... Nothing comes to mind at the moment. I won't be a hypocrite and say I loved everything, but I can't remember anything right now.

Favourite colour: I would say a peachy-pink as of now: it changes every year it seems!

Currently reading: I’m listening to two books simultaneously right now actually (I find audiobooks more relaxing whilst I have to read lots for uni) - The Bell Jar by Silvia Plath and Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll (yes I am a classics try-hard right now, I promise I read less pretentious things too).

Last film: I almost finished Crazy Rich Asians for the second or third time at least, but they took it off Netflix before I could finish it... so technically... Greta Gerwig’s Little Women!

Sweet, savoury, or spicy: Always sweet! I have an incurable sweet tooth.

Currently working on: my dissertation, rather than my big novel project idea I’ve had for the last five years... but I am attempting to write small bits of poetry in between to keep the creative juices flowing!

Hi there, fellow readers! I’m Claris (she/her). 

I originally had this blog under the name mysticalauthoress, but changed it to clarislam in April 2022 to be more aligned with myself as a writer.

vhs: books or movies?

I’m such a sucker for cinematography, I’d have to say movies. I studied English Literature as part of my degree, so will always have a respect and appreciation for written fiction (even though since Uni I’ve really slacked on my reading!), but there’s something so powerful about storytelling through imagery for me. It’s partly why I wanted to create videos on YouTube - I’ve wanted to make CMVs for YEARS now, so to finally bring those aspirations to life, and to tell the stories of these characters through a visual medium, means so much

Aaaah, thank you for the kind comments anon!

 I haven’t used fanfiction in years, so I haven’t ever seen the Bravely content there... I should check it out :3

As for ao3, there’s only seven fics with that ship in it at all, and I don’t think it’s the main focus of a lot of them, though I recommend @mysticalauthoress‘ Bravely content in general, as they put in a ton of work for this series~ There’s also the first chapter of this modern AU fic, which was super cute and I look forwards to reading more~

♪♩♫ Does music inspire your muse? What’s one song on your playlist that reminds you of your muse? In general, it does not. I get hit with inspiration at random, it rarely has anything to do with whether or not I’m listening to music. Which is kind of funny, considering how much music means to me. As for songs that remind me of my muse… well, songs from the Devil’s Carnival films aside (as I feel that would be cheating lol), it’s tough to say since I still know so little about her canonically. Sorry for a less than fascinating answer :P

Writeblr Re-Intro

Hi! I’m Claris.

I originally had this blog under the name mysticalauthoress, but changed it to clarislam as of early April 2022 to be more aligned with myself as a writer. 

I write a wide variety of works such as poetry and fiction. I also post book reviews and fanfiction updates weekly as well.

I also am currently writing several novels, including a murder mystery trilogy called the Harlow Mysteries (working title and subject to change in the future). As of writing this post, Book 1 is in the final stages of writing while Books 2 and 3 are still going through several rounds of edits and revisions. 

UPDATE as of May 16th, 2022: Book 1 of the Harlow Mysteries, “Winner Takes All: A Harlow Mystery,” will be published in June 2022! Click here for more details!
