bzzt bzzt new soukoku au dropped, this time featuring YOKAI

dazai is a kitsune who lives in the forest and watches over the shrines of his predecessor (that he lowkey inherited), chuuya is an oni who accidentally d worded a guy on one of those shrines and then got stuck with a fox forever

chuuya's design is mostly his oni design from mayoi's pandemonium night, i just added the corruption tattoos

(au skk backstory info under the cut)

oni are servants of hell and, before they were oni, were the most vile and sinful of humans on earth. as oni, their jobs are to punish humans that are JUST short of being awful enough to become oni as well, and they can eat souls so that's fun

chuuya, for a long time, works with other oni (it's the sheep) to eat, seal away and punish souls. he meets dazai one day, an annoying and secretive kitsune in the forest, accidentally gets a mess on his shrine and dazai decides to annoy him for the rest of time

then one day, out of nowhere, dazai sets all the souls of the sinners loose in the name of an ambiguous "greater good", and offs the sheep to make sure they don't seal up the sinners again. he tries to do the same with chuuya, but chuuya is fueled by his anger and.......... retaliates

chuuya's anger summons fire, he leaves dazai engulfed in them, and that's how dazai gets his bandages in this.

chuuya also swears that he'll hate dazai forever for what he's done, which, like, he does, but it's that typical soukoku hate where hate = i want to punch and kick you stupid and then make out with you

and a hundred or so years later dazai is back to annoying chuuya like normal anyway because this is skk, but now they just have more baggage

suegiku posting again sorry (i’m not sorry) but this is genuine love to me. they won’t say it but the fact that tetchou put aside saving the world from the vampire pandemic when he could have easily went after bram in favour of attempting to save jouno shows how much he loves him. i really hope we see more on this and that the two share a moment where they talk about it and how much they actually care. i need tetchou to assure jouno that he isn’t a bad person, and that being selected for evil isn’t his true self. the potential for character building here is so good.

asagiri said he wants to focus on their rivalry in the future, i hope this does not make them enemies but instead just work partners that argue sometimes. tetchou is the only one who understands jouno, i really hope they get to have moments where they connect and jouno slowly breaks away from his tough exterior around tetchou. two people who just care for each other and want to help the world.

I still will never understand that comment by Asagiri saying that Dazai was the best thing to happen to Akutagawa when even Dazai himself doesn't believe that. I mean, from what I heard, the BEAST novel does a pretty good job in showing that Dazai knew Akutagawa would thrive and do better under people like Odasaku and Kunikida, right? Dazai throwing Atsushi at Akutagawa and kind of evading saying anything to Akutagawa sometimes did make me wonder if he was trying to force the boy from dependency on Dazai's approval (though, I also do believe Dazai doesn't fully want let go of his control over Akutagawa, which is another can of worms)

I mean, yes, Dazai wants to control Akutagawa, but I also think he knows objectively (not self-deprecatingly) that he just...wasn't good for him asides from the whole sort-of-saving-his-life thing. What I'm saying is that the relationship between the mentors and mentees of BSD are more complicated than saying "he/she was 100% good/bad for them" but also that generally we do see a progression of growth for the mentor with each "student" they take under their wing.
