Another SessKag prompt from @matsuharuu!

SessKag: “You shouldn’t be spying on women while they’re bathing.”

“It is unwise for you to be out here alone.”

She’d been daydreaming about him for so long that Kagome almost ignored the warning, blinking sleepily at him before letting out a yelp and ducking back into the water. “You shouldn’t be spying on women when they’re bathing!” she replied hotly, keeping herself submerged.

“I do not see the issue.”

“You wouldn’t,” she grumbled, blowing out a cluster of frustrated bubbles. Why was she always attracted to the oblivious, unattainable ones? She doubted she was on the same level as Jaken, let alone a viable love interest.

She was doomed to wander the earth with a broken heart forever.

Sesshoumaru’s head cocked to the side, curiosity swirling in his amber eyes, and she dragged her hands down her face. “I’ll come back to camp in a few minutes. You can leave.”

“No.” His tone was so firm that Kagome forgot to be embarrassed, aura flaring indignantly.

“What do you mean no?”

“I will not leave,” he replied, still standing at the edge of the spring.

She bristled, arms crossing over her chest. “I’m fully capable of taking care of myself,” she snapped. She wasn’t the same teen who’d fallen down the well. Almost ten years had passed since then, and she was much more in tune with her powers now than she was back then.

“I am aware.”

Her anger deflated, and she lay back against the bank. “Then why—”

“Those who would harm you are not just seeking your power, miko,” he said, one hand running down his fur.

She flushed at the insinuation. It wouldn’t be the first time. Miroku’s indecent proposals had actually helped deviate those who sought to claim not only her power but her body as well, but he was off helping Ayame rebuild her pack. Plus, this journey was solely to witness Shippou’s graduation, so the extra protection wasn’t needed.

No one was about to try anything with Sesshoumaru around, anyway.

Sighing, Kagome pushed at the water, the ripples dissipating by the time they got to his feet. “Why do you even care?” she asked, heart twisting.

The silence was deafening, telling, and if it hadn’t been him, she would’ve gotten out of the spring out of spite just so she could stomp past him.

“Would you rather I did not?” The odd lilt to his voice had her head snapping up. His eyes were still on her, though his expression remained impassive, and suddenly she had trouble swallowing.

“Do you?” she whispered.

“It appears that way.”

She scrambled out of the spring, already reaching for him, but was stopped by his fur, silently offering it to her as he avoided her gaze. She looked up at him in confusion and caught the slight darkening of his stripes.

“You should ensure the whole of your body is covered before you return,” he said, turning away once she accepted his pelt.

The fur was warm as she wrapped it around her shoulders. “Why?”

He paused but didn’t turn around before resuming his purposeful pace. “Temptation.”

She wanted to tell him exactly what he could do with said temptation, her own currently buzzing under her skin, but he was already gone, silver hair disappearing between the trees.

My thoughts on IY ships:

Sesskik: OTP. objectively the best ship. best themes. Go read The Rift Between Auras. It also has the best art and the best fandom.

KogKag: Personal favorite. Love the pure unadulterated passion of it. And theres lots of good content on it. And admittedly….I think it's the sexiest relationship.

InuKag: Wonderful ship, Canon, good, nothing really to say.

MirSan EDIT nope, screw this ship, Inusan is best!: best. It makes sense. I always have some misgivings (Sango deserves better after the shit she’s been through, and Miroku’s antics get unfunny at times, and I like strong women), it sometimes feels a bit disrespectful. But I admit there's a genuine bond; they’re a decent couple. Heck, even the more sexist elements make sense. It’s feudal Japan, literally, the 1500’s even if it’s a fantasy setting. The fact they have 3 kids immediately makes sense. Not bad, but I feel like she deserves better.

EDIT: and it doesn't help that the author basically locked in mirsan from the start with not even the slightest consideration for other possibilities. It's basically a forced ship, for good or bad.

Inusan: UPDATE: I am really starting to like this ship, it suffers from having very little content, but what does exist is intriuging, and its starting grow on me. I would love to see it explored more. Its definitely moved up to one of my top ships.

InuKik: really good ship, it's deep and complex, even in canon, but personally I find it a really good pair with KogKag. Two pairs where everyone is happy!

Sesskagu: a spicy couple, the most common theme being they end up being a sassy couple of assholes, revelling in each other’s evil, but with the undertone of a deeper emotional bond.

Sesskag: I don't like it. one of the more popular ships that I actually have genuine grips with. I can’t get aboard, I don’t like it. They don’t fit well. And I get the feeling that it’s the “sesshomaru fangirl-self-insert ship”. The “badass guy going with the bubbly semi-normal girl.” They don't fit. It almost feels a bit....predatory?

Koh/rin: A really cute relationship, childhood friends.

KagSan: Love their interaction they’re really good friends, and I would love to see more interactions between them. But taking it to the romantic level also is would be great.

Kagkik: would have loved to see more interactions between them, there’s so much chemistry. I like it both as friends and even romantic partners. I just want them both to be happy and get past their angst and issues.

KaguKik: I can definitely see the dynamic, and this one would be 90% romantic. Two lost souls finding a bond with each other.

EDIT: a few extras.

AyaKag: makes no sense, but there's one tumblr Artist that makes really cute art of it. Thumbs up.

InuKog: I can respect it. full disclosure, I'm a guy, so I never was into M/M ships, but I can respect it, probably the most reasonable M/M ship.

Naraku X anymone: nah,, Naraku is "pathetic evil", he's the type that you can't even like for being a "dark badass". He's just an all-around looser, he's literally an Incel. So I don't care for it, but whatever floats your boat.

InuSess: just.....why? And all the content involves some form abuse/rape/nasty stuff.

Sessr*n: No.

Just curious but why do you prefer Inuyasha over sesshouamru and really inukag over sesskag? I know sesskag isn’t canon and inukag is the canon couple but is there any reason for your preference? Is it cuz you just prefer Inuyasha or you just like to ship what’s canon? Just curiousI get curious about inukag shippers passion for the ship, I love your blog btw 💖

Generally I'm more of a canon shipper, yeah. I don't really care about romance unless I see a love story that is really well done so I will rarely look at 2 characters who aren't interested in each other in canon and think "but what if their personality or the story was different?" and search for fanfics/fanart about that. I adore Inuyasha and Kagome's story in canon so I never felt the need to ship them with other characters.

Now when it comes to sesskag there's a few reasons why I don't ship it. First as you guessed I just love Inuyasha way too much, lol. I LOVE jerks with a heart of gold. I love characters who are extremely good-hearted and kind but still have real flaws and make mistakes.

Stoic characters like Sesshomaru just aren't my cup of tea, I find myself bored by characters like that and I think the fandom in general really overexaggerates how much he was "redeemed" in canon. I see a lot of "He was never that cruel! He only killed bandits and demons!" completely ignoring the fact that he used his poison claws on Kagome with the intent to kill her (unlike Inuyasha who missed on purpose while attacking Kagome, Sesshomaru did NOT miss and Kagome only survived because of Tessaiga). I see a lot of "He learned compassion!" ignoring the fact that he said "Who cares?" when Naraku told him that everyone in in Kaede's village would die if he attacked him, as late as chapter 551. There's nothing wrong with Sesshomaru being a morally grey character but that's... absolutely not compatible with Kagome "chronic hero syndrome" Higurashi. Kagome might be kind and friendly with everyone but that doesn't mean that she would date anyone. One of the main reasons why she falls in love with Inuyasha is because he has a good-heart and he can't bring himself to actually be cruel. I think it's pretty important for her to be with someone who has the same values as her, you know? To ship her with Inuyasha's racist, cruel brother who made Inuyasha's life hell and is one of the reasons why he has such an abrasive personally just... doesn't make any sense to me.

Because of that I always felt like Sesshomaru is very ooc in sesskag fanfics/comics (I've read a few in the past because I was curious). Which is fine, you do you. But I can't see Sesshomaru as the soft, kind, gentleman he is in fanfics, lol. Don't get me wrong a lot of inukag fanfics also make Inuyasha a lot sweeter and romantic than he is in canon but it's still more believable to me than Sesshomaru being like that. In canon the only time Sesshomaru and Kagome were alone together Kagome tried to have a conversation with him and he barely replied to her, so I think Kagome is too bubbly and talkative and would be bored with him, lmao.

Also I've seen some sesskag shippers argue that they ship it because they don't like the love triangle and how Kagome was hurt by Inuyasha's relationship with Kikyo and like, I get it. But most of these arguments come from anime watchers who tend to believe Inuyasha should have just ditched Kikyo and let her die and I will never agree with that. Yes Inuyasha could have handled the situation better but calling him a two-timer who treats Kagome like shit is a bad misunderstanding of his character and the situation (especially in the manga) and that's the hill I will die on 🤷‍♀️ Also If you think Kagome should be shipped with someone who doesn't have an ex and is actually compatible with her: Sango is right there? The fact that people who use this argument don't ship Kagome with Sango or Hojo makes me believe that they basically use Kagome as a self-insert to ship themselves with whatever male character they find hot (not saying all sesskag content is like that ofc but a lot of it must be)

I hope this answers your question! And thank you for the compliment 😊 No hate towards Sesskag shippers btw their fandom is pretty big and I've never had beef with anyone in that fandom so I think that says a lot!

Valentine's day had come and gone, with a notable difference this year for Kagome compared with the last lonely three;

Her return to the Sengoku Jidai.

To celebrate reuniting with her beloved friends, she'd gone all out. Everyone received gifts, right down to Myoga and Jaken; no one had been excluded.

For all her efforts, however, she expected nothing in return. Though she'd explained the concept to the Inutachi, Sango and Miroku were much too busy looking after their children to keep track of dates, Shippo was often away at Kitsune school and Inuyasha had been absent as of late. Besides that, since their relationship had ended, the subject of Valentine's had become an awkward one. She'd had to stress the platonic intent behind her gift to him.

Therefore, Kagome had pretty much forgotten all about White Day by the time it rolled around.

Exiting Kaede's hut with a tub of water in her arms, intending to give the old miko's horse a good scrub down, she dug in her heels the second exquisite silks, armour and a fur pelt registered- having blinked into existence before her. Kagome gaped, swaying. Water sloshed, some spilling to their feet.

"Uh hi," looking up at grave, handsome features, she arched a brow. Sesshoumaru stared at her fervently. "Nice to see you, Sesshoumaru," adjusting her grip, Kagome sidestepped him and flashed a warm smile, used to his minimalistic approach to conversation by now. "Do you need something? Inuyasha isn't here. I think he's helping the next village over repair a-"

"I am not here for him."

Kagome noted his succinct tone, sounding more defensive than usual. Setting down the wooden tub carefully, she straightened, tilting her head. "Then what are you here for?"

"White Day."

"White... ah!" Kagome gasped, "that's right! How did you know about that?" she blinked, noticing he looked extra grumpy today. His jaw ticked, golden eyes narrow. Slowly, the miko brightened. "No way. Did you... get me something?" she breathed, strangely touched.

Of all people, Sesshoumaru had remembered? Was she dreaming?

A hand thrust out stiffly towards her, balancing a small box upon his palm.

Accepting it with thanks, heat touched her cheeks. Weird. She really shouldn't be indulging this- or feeling kind of happy. It didn't mean anything to be pleased, right? Was she even allowed to feel warm and fuzzy towards her ex's brother?

Opening the lid, Kagome tried to squash her excitement- peering down. Slowly, she reached in, retrieving a silky soft thing.

It appeared to be made of something long, silver and fine, the material woven into a pretty design. A bracelet of silk, if she could hazard a guess.

"Um, thank you," Kagome raised her gaze. "What's it made of, out of curiosity? It's very soft."

Sesshoumaru appeared pleased, preening a little. "Only the finest material."

"Really?" she stroked it. "I hope you didn't go to any trouble on my account."

He scoffed, midsummer gaze smiling slightly as his tone became haughty and prideful, "it was no trouble to use this one's own hair."

Kagome dropped the bracelet back into the box. "Whut?"

Lithe fingers combed indulgently into his fall of lustrous silver hair, "you need not be alarmed. The strands grew back quickly."

That isn't what's alarming me, Kagome silently screamed. Now that she was paying attention though, the pale bracelet really did resemble the demon lord's long flowing locks.

Her hand recoiled a little from the box. "W-well, um... thank you very much," Kagome said thinly. "It's a very thoughtful gift. Truly."

Sesshoumaru's keen, piercing eyes roved over her strained features, voice deepening. "If you do not wish to accept it-"

"N-no, I do! I'll wear it right now!" Kagome grabbed it madly, fiddling with the thing while repressing a shudder. She tried and failed to secure the clasp, stiffening when large hands closed over her hand.

The demon lord leaned forward- that same hair currently being secured around her wrist falling free from behind a pointed ear. Silver strands draped down like a gossamer curtain, tickling her flushed, sensitive skin.

Sesshoumaru tilted his head up, expression unreadable.

Shifting her wrist, Kagome observed the threads of hair wrapped around it. His bracelet felt odd, the concept totally foreign. However, she could feel how much the gesture meant to him. She didn't fear offending him because of his dark temper- more because she cared about his feelings and wanted to nurture any hint of a bond between them.

"Thank you," Kagome said. "No one else brought me anything today, so I'm...I'm grateful."

Even if it was the weirdest thing she'd ever received. A bracelet made of hair wasn't exactly traditional.

Straightening, Sesshoumaru's lips thinned as his eyes flickered with confusion.

Kagome blinked, wondering what else he'd envisioned her saying.

"Hn," inclining his head regally, he pivoted sharply and began stalking away quickly, giving a swift kill to the conversation.

Without a frame of reference for how long he desired her to wear it, Kagome tugged her sleeve down to hide the bracelet from curious eyes during the next few days. She tried to ignore the sensation of hair continually brushing her skin.

"I wonder if it means something important," Kagome examined it while sprawled out upon a grassy hill, taking a break from her miko duties Kaede had started dishing out ever since her return.

Sesshoumaru had seemed extremely serious while giving it to her. Then again, the gift could've meant nothing. Maybe his hair was just THAT valuable in the Daiyoukai's opinion. She snorted, twisting her wrist and watching silver threads catch on sunlight, making it shine white. "His ego is big enough. I'd believe it. Heh, maybe he'd also give me one of his eyelashes, or a fingernail or..."

Why was Sesshoumaru heading towards her?

Sitting up and fussing absentmindedly with her hair- removing a few stray leaves- Kagome felt heat flood her face.

Okay, no- she shook herself, putting a firm lid over the butterflies taking flight in her stomach. Too strange. Enough of that.

The Daiyoukai stopped a few feet away, expression detached. Kagome knew by now to ignore it in favour of looking into his eyes. They were intent and unblinking today, hinting at his seriousness.

"Hi," she said, patting a spot next to her. "It's rare for you to visit the village again during the same week. What's up?"

Sesshoumaru cocked his head to the side at her odd term. Kagome bit her lip, finding it endearing. Her attention strayed, noticing yet another box sitting innocently upon his hand.

She paled. Oh no.

Gracefully sweeping himself down onto one knee- he thrust the new box out towards her, giving Kagome a dizzying sense of Déjà vu.

I was joking about the fingernails. Please be something normal. Please.

Accepting it gingerly, blue eyes flicked up towards him. "White day is over, you know."

"This one is aware."

"So...why the new gift?"

Sesshoumaru pretended to be interested in the gentle bubbling stream not too far away. "Because it pleases me to give it to you."

He was so difficult to figure out. Not wanting to squash his newfound sense of generosity, Kagome carefully removed the lid.

The contents did not look promising.

Trying not to jump to conclusions, she reached in and removed the long necklace. A single solitary tooth hung from the chord.

"Ah," Kagome squinted. "Open your mouth a sec."

Sesshoumaru's lips parted wordlessly, mouth opening wider to reveal a gap where one of his sharp canines used to be.

"This...is yours?" she asked weakly.

Sesshoumaru closed his mouth and nodded primly. "It will serve you well, should you have need of it."

In what way would I ever have need of a tooth? a wrinkle marred her brow as she considered it, coming to a small realisation. "To make a sword from?"

"Hn."

Well, that explained a small piece of the puzzle. In a very 'Sesshoumaru' way- it almost seemed a little sweet, practical even.

However, this did not help assuage her naturally squeamish reaction while looking at the freshly plucked tooth.

"Thanks," she said lamely. "I-I'm sure it'll be very useful if I visit Totosai in the future."

Her answer didn't seem to be what he was looking for. Sesshoumaru's gaze flitted from her to the dangling fang. "Females... prefer jewels, make-up or clothing, I suppose."

Kagome scratched her cheek, "depends on the lady- but you really don't have to worry, Sesshoumaru," laying a hand over pale knuckles resting upon his knee, she gave a squeeze. "I'm touched you're being so thoughtful. There's no need to give me anything else though, I have more than enough."

His nostrils flared, jaw setting stubbornly. He drew himself up to stand, "you are too modest."

Feeling thoroughly discombobulated, Kagome could only watch as he pivoted with all the grace of a dainty dancer, stalking away with billowing sleeves.

For two weeks, Sesshoumaru continued visiting the village at random intervals. His flair for turning up at the most unexpected times made it difficult for Kagome to anticipate his visits. Sometimes he'd arrive bright and early, others- nearing nightfall. Occasionally he'd visit Rin, but their interactions seemed distracted. Rin would whisper fiercely to him while gesturing in Kagome's direction, but he'd ultimately leave without speaking a word to the miko.

It was odd, confusing. She'd used to think of Sesshoumaru as a fairly straightforward demon. As of late, he'd been downright unpredictable and... flakey. She kind of missed their previous easy interactions when she'd pick herbs and prattle on while he occasionally offered a word or two. His silence had felt comfortable rather than awkward.

I don't know how to get that back, Kagome thought sadly.

A chilly wind passed by, breeze rushing around her exposed neck. Adjusting her miko garb, she sneezed, shivering a little. Autumn would soon be on its way.

The heat of an intense stare sent a new chill down her spine. Kagome turned, sensing it- only to find Sesshoumaru gazing at her intently.

Was it her imagination, or did he seem absurdly pleased? As though struck by a revelation.

As was typical behaviour for him, the demon lord began walking away without a word.

Trudging back from training in the woods, Kagome shouldered her bow while walking around a thick tree- only to quickly stop, almost bumping straight into polished armour.

Sesshoumaru stood before her, holding another box. This time it was larger, more of a rectangular shape.

"M-more?" Kagome squeaked. Her heart thundered. It felt like so long since they'd last spoken.

Sesshoumaru inclined his head gravely, "hn."

Biting her lip and somewhat dreading what cast-off part of him could be inside this time, Kagome grasped the lid and removed it- only to slam it abruptly back down.

"What… what is that?" she asked thinly.

Sesshoumaru's lashes fell shut and slid open in an unruffled blink.

"My fur."

I thought as much.

Kagome removed the lid with trepidation once more, lifting out the lush, soft coat. Even while her hands sank into the cloud-like material, blue eyes remained wide with distress.

Sesshoumaru seemed to guess her line of thinking. "It is discarded fur that I have shed, not cleaved off. Do not worry."

"O-okay," she said thinly. It's still weird though. Too weird. Imagine if I'd made a coat of shed skin.

It was so odd that Kagome felt a line needed to be drawn, placing it back into the box and numbly accepting it from him. "Sesshoumaru… I have to put my foot down now. I appreciate your gifts but I can't accept any more."

He stiffened, the burning embers in his eyes freezing into glassy orbs.

Kagome rushed to explain, "it's very sweet of you, and I appreciate the thought. I'm just not, uh…sure they're suited for a human. Besides, you seem to be worrying about what to get me instead of talking to me. I'd rather we just spoke like old times instead of this awkwardness."

"I see," he said stiffly.

She took a step forward, eyes widening when he took one back and turned. "This one did not intend to give you things deemed inappropriate and unwelcome. Farewell."

"Wait-!"

Too late, Sesshoumaru blurred away from her outstretched hand.

Kagome grit her teeth, sighing and balancing the box on one hand. Damn it.

Slowly, Kagome lowered the box onto a tree stump and gingerly lifted the coat. It felt lush and divine, her hands disappearing within the sheer volume of fur. Sliding her arms into the sleeves and putting it on, Kagome wrapped it around herself, feeling like she were enclosed in a giant fluffy cloud. His static youki brushed her skin intimately, fanning out from the strands.

It was big. It was a little ridiculous. It was wonderful.

Kagome groaned, burying her face in her hands. Sure, the idea of him collecting his shed fur to sew into a coat was strange by human standards, but actually wearing the coat, she now understood his simplistic intent.

He'd just wanted her to be warm.

"You're such a weirdo," she grumbled, blushing and dipping her nose into the fur. It smelled like him; wild forests, with the hint of refined smoke from a pipe.

Maybe she was weird too.

He was absent for an entire month.

Sesshoumaru figured it would help ease the sting of rejection. The second he caught Kagome's fragrance, however, it was like an old wound had been ripped open again.

His lips thinned, firmly keeping all emotion locked tight behind a placid mask as he visited Rin.

Chatting with the girl allowed him to soothe his stung ego for a while, distracted by Rin's news about the village and her training. Occasionally she would mention the miko and his chest would tighten again. How pathetic of him.

Once his cup lay empty and Rin mentioned the need to leave in order to assist the older miko, Sesshoumaru took his leave.

Stepping foot outside Kaede's hut, however, he froze.

Kagome stiffened before him, swathed in furs- his furs- he dimly noted.

More than that, lithe fingers curled around the fang resting at her collarbone. The silver bracelet of his hair caught the light before disappearing beneath the length of her sleeve.

Kagome's cheeks heated, and she thrust out a box, letting it rest on her palm.

"I asked around," she muttered. "Inuyasha was clueless, and Shippo kept laughing whenever I tried to ask him what was going on. Luckily Myoga happened to stop by," blue eyes pinned him in place. "You could've told me what all the gifts meant instead of leaving me in the dark."

Sesshoumaru did not accept the box just yet. "I thought my intentions were achingly clear."

Embarrassingly so, for a proud demon.

"Not for humans!" she huffed, lowering her hands a little. "I was confused the whole time! How was I supposed to know that you were giving me a betrothal bracelet, or that the fang was for any half-demon children I might have when they need a sword? I kind of figured out the coat, but I didn't know it represented your intentions to provide for me."

Sesshoumaru stared. Oh. Perhaps he should've listened to Rin about courting the miko after all.

Cheeks scarlet, Kagome sighed, lifting the lid of her box off and removing something from inside.

"May I?"

Sesshoumaru nodded dazedly, golden eyes widening. His entire being thrummed, heart picking up speed.

Shifting closer, Kagome pushed some dark locks behind her ear, the length slightly shorter than usual. Sliding a black bracket around his striped wrist, Kagome swallowed. Her hair had been woven into a band much like his, though nowhere near as intricate.

The demon stared at it, fixated. Baser instincts purred.

Molten gold eyes slowly raised to pin her with a disarmingly reverent look. He spoke no words of poetry, no love or longing, but it was there, he hoped. Abundantly clear. Kagome seemed to recognise it for what it was now.

She smiled a little, hugging her arms and scuffing her foot. "Don't get the wrong idea; I'm not saying I'll jump into marriage with you, but it turns out I'm kind of interested in dating you. Really... interested," Kagome forced out, obviously embarrassed but soldiering on. "If it's okay, we could...do that," she finished lamely.

Sesshoumaru took a step forward, invading her personal space. She blushed exactly the way he'd hoped she would, babbling. "So the uh- think of the bracelet as a dating bracelet! Maybe down the line it could...it could become an engagement thing," she murmured, voice dimming in the wake of his proximity.

"Hn," honeyed eyes smiled, careful claws unfurling to find her chin. "That would be pleasing," he uttered in a faint rumble, tipping his head down. "I accept."

Satisfaction rolled through him fiercely as she tilted her head just so- lips meeting and brushing feather-light against his. Emboldened, Kagome's hands found the collar of his hankimono just as he took her by the waist as though entering a dance, tightening.

Sesshoumaru let his eyes flutter shut, inhaling sharply through his nose. He could smell her so bright and clear—the sweetness of tangerines, faint, exotic soaps—and her mouth so warm. Kagome kissed him, firmer, hand finding his hair- fingers curling. His breath began to roughen the longer their kisses went on. His heart chanted the truth of it all- 'yours.'

If the foolish woman wanted him, he'd already given himself to her. The ticklish brush of her hair claiming his wrist made him smirk against her mouth, glimpsing his own band of white around hers and revelling in a plume of possessive pride.

Perhaps it was unorthodox by her standards, but they were not exactly normal themselves. And so, Sesshoumaru drowned himself in the curious, raw newness of the strange miko, surrendering to all the oddities that would likely follow during their strange courtship.

@chierafied your prompt sent me on an adventure. I had too much fun with it, and it quickly went from a simple 200 word drabble to a 1030 word one-shot. I hope you have as much fun reading this as I had writing it.

"This is not what it looks like."

A mortified Kagome squeaked as the direness of the situation finally set in. Straddled atop the fearsome Western Lord’s lap and completely disheveled, she frantically adjusted the fabric of her loose kosode. Hoping against all hope that Inuyasha’s eyeful hadn’t caught her more exposed features. A slight movement of her hips just barely hid the bulge of silk that pressed hot and heavy against her thigh. She tried not to stare at the half-lidded, gilded eyes swimming with want in front of her.

“It looks like you’re getting it on with my brother!”

“Half-brother,” Sesshomaru corrected, a smirk lightening his normally placid features as he leaned back against the Goshinbuku, a picture of utter confidence. The silk hankimono and subsequent layers he wore gaped open and slumped down to gather at his elbows, revealing broad shoulders, defined biceps, and a sinfully muscular torso. Mighty hands still grasped Kagome’s – thankfully – clothed hips. “It is, in fact, exactly ‘what it looks like’. When did you become so astute?”

“Sesshomaru!” Kagome scolded, scandalized.

“I-I think I’m going to hurl…”

“Please do so elsewhere. The scent of your bile will ‘ruin the mood’ – that is the correct phrase, is it not, Ka-go-me?”

Kagome shot Sesshomaru a death glare in response. His smirk merely widened, golden eyes sparkling with mischief.

“Inuyasha, I’m really sorry you had to find out like this, and I’m sorry I didn’t tell you about this when you got back,” Kagome pleaded. She fought the instinct to look away from the pale, stricken face of her ex. “But you’ve been gone so long, over a year now, and this just kind of… happened? I didn’t think we’d work out enough to ever bother telling you.”

“This One knew—”

Frustrated, Kagome slammed a hand over Sesshomaru’s mouth. A warm, wet tongue dragged across her palm, and Kagome prayed to all the gods in existence for the patience not to obliterate the being below her.

“What d’ya mean?” Inuyasha’s voice seemed so small.

“H-he and I… We… W-We’re…” Kagome stammered. “W-Well, what I’m trying t-to say is…”

In a flash, one of Sesshomaru’s clawed hands left her hip, grasped her wrist, and pulled her hand away from his mouth. Before she had a chance to stop him, he spoke.

“We are mates, little half-brother. This One and Kagome.”

“Y-you’re… what?”

“Did I not speak clearly? Mates.”

Despite Sesshomaru’s sass, Inuyasha managed to stay relatively calm, but his hands were in fists, and Kagome could see his muscles shake as he repressed volatile emotions.

“Kagome is this… Is this true?”

Sheepishly meeting Inuyasha’s affronted gaze, she nodded.

“B-but you hatehumans!” the hanyo directed at his sibling.

“Indifference is a more apt descriptor. I was indifferent, until Kagome,” he paused, glancing at her. “Then Rin, Kohaku, Kaede, and even Sango, Miroku, and their brood of miniature slayers proved that humans are worth knowing.”

Inuyasha, seemingly too stunned to respond, merely blinked.

“Furthermore,” Sesshomaru’s smooth bass resonated in the clearing, “in approximately seven months’ time you will be an uncle.”

“What?!” two utterly shocked voices snapped in unison. Kagome’s sapphire eyes stared at her mate, perplexed.

Inuyasha recovered first.

“You’re joking!” he accused.

“It is uncouth to jest about such matters.”

“Am… Am I really…” Kagome found it hard to get the words out. “I’m pregnant?”

“Hn,” his thumb caressed the wrist he still held. “My intention was to tell you tonight after our coupling. Your scent has changed. When I am close, as I am now, I hear their heartbeats.”

He had said it so matter-of-fact: the sky is blue, rain is wet, I hear their heartbeats. An unknown feeling bubbled up inside Kagome’s chest, something like love, like hope, like joy. Maybe all of them once.

“Their?”

“Hn. Twins, perhaps triplets? It is difficult to determine at this time.”

The scents of salt and elation permeated the clearing, driving out the previous cloying mists of arousal. Tears gathered in Kagome’s sapphire eyes as she started at her mate. Letting her kosode loose, her free hand now cupped over her mouth in astonishment.

“Three?”

“Perhaps.”

His clawed hand released her wrist and brushed away her tears. Slender fingers buried themselves in his silver mane as she leaned into his touch.

“You’re going to be chichi-ue.”

“Otou-san, preferably,” he corrected. “Our father insisted upon chichi-ue, and this One does not wish for such formality with our own pups.”

A smile broke out across Kagome’s face, “I love hearing you talk like that.”

“Hn?”

“‘Our own pups’,” Kagome repeated as she leaned in and her lips met his. It was near impossible to keep herself from smiling. Their kisses were short, but full of tenderness and care, excitement and love. Her kosode began to slip off her shoulder as she pressed herself closer to her mate. Skin craving skin. One large, clawed hand splayed across her lower back pushing her hips into his. The hidden, heavy heat against her thigh began to grow. She giggled, eyes bright as Sesshomaru peppered kisses across her tear-drenched cheeks and lapped at their snaking trails down her chin.

Her laugh must have knocked Inuyasha out of his daze, because a disgusted groan echoed through the clearing, followed by, “For fuck’s sake! And under my tree too?”

Kagome barely caught a glimpse of red and white as he sped away into the forest. A modicum of guilt rose within her. They really should have told him when he first got back a few days ago, and Sesshomaru definitely shouldn’t have announced the pregnancy as he did, but she was too euphoric to care overly much in this moment.

“My brother is an imbecile, but he will come around eventually,” Sesshomaru mumbled into her throat.

“When I’m capable of being mad again,” she murmured as the yokai below her paid particular attention to their mating mark, fangs dragging across her bare skin, sending shivers down her spine, “I’m going to throttle you for how you handled that.”

A pleased growl rumbled low in his chest, “I look forward to it, Ka-go-me. Now, this One desires to make love to mother of our pups.”

The Fairies and the Elves are distant cousins. Distant cousins who’ve been fighting. For many, many centuries.

No one even remembers why anymore, just that something was stolen or maybe someone was betrayed or maybe just that someone was rude at a party one time and insulted someone else’s shoes.

It’s all very unclear, but for generations there’s been bad blood between the Fae Families and the Elf Clans, and both these species live a LONG time, so this grudge has been simmering for…. Well, a long time.

But all this in fighting means that Humans, who reproduce like rabbits compared to long lived fairies and elves, have managed to be the top dogs of the word, and both Fairies and Elves are tired of their brightest minds being used for war instead of progress, so they attempt to strike up some peace via Marriage Contract. The humans do it all the time, after all, when their little villages and kingdoms start squabbling, how bad could it be?

Real bad, apparently.

Sesshomaru is the first born Son of the Elven King, set to inherit the throne at some point, raised to be regal, poised, controlled, the silver hair and golden eyes of his royal clan shine brighter on him than they have on anyone born in his family in a millennia, and he’s highly, highly educated. The prize of the Elven Kingdom, he is accepting of his duty to his people and is ready to step into his new role with his head high.

Kagome is the 3rd born child of the Fairy King, but second born daughter. Her elder sister entered a convent to dedicate her life to serving the goddesses, so she was out, but Kagome is warm, kind, skilled with magics and known for her wit and sharp sense of humor. Her subjects LOVE her and are sad to see her go live amongst the elves, but if ANYONE can unite their people, it’s Kagome, who’s been preaching for YEARS that Elves arent bad just because they’re elves, it’s just propaganda! They’re people like the fairies are and we can all get along! She’s excited to be the one to build the bridge to peace!

And then they meet.

Sesshomaru is instantly put off and overwhelmed by her sunny demeanor. Elves are *not* known for being talkative and social, and Kagome interprets him clamming up as him being a snob who doesn’t like her. She’s fine with Elves, but maybe HE doesn’t like fairies? She’s dismayed that her new husband already hates her, she’s annoyed that he’s so pompous and wants to kick him down a rung or two, but he avoids her like the plague.

Cuz he DOESN’T dislike her. He found her pretty and interesting and intriguing, but… he doesn’t have the faintest clue what to say to her. He wasn’t raised to *talk* he was raised to *lead* and BOY does she love to talk!!!

So now their marriage in shambles even though it’s barely begun. The groom is secretly frightened of his new, bubbly wife who smiles bright as the sun, and the bride is DETERMINED to track down her new husband and give him a piece of her mind.

*cue shenanigans*

Here and a few other places my author name is Tenshibeth1, which was a username I'd created back in high school some...gosh, ten years ago now? Time flies! But, it was created in part by my group of friends then. I was in the goth group, but they always said I was the nicest and most innocent of the group, like an angel. My nickname in reality is Beth, short from Elizabeth, and I've always been big into Japan, anime, and manga and all, so Tenshi seemed a fitting choice to add onto my name. Tenshi means angel. The one stands for the fact that it was my first author username. Now, Reflection of a Broken Dream (RoaBD) came later in life, when I felt everything I am and was, was broken. It came after my divorce from an abusive and terrible man...he had me believing I was nothing. I could do nothing right, I was a pest to everyone, and my dreams? Get real. I could never make them come true. Writing has always been a balm for me...and even though I believed few would read or like my stuff, I did eventually begin posting stuff again. To my shock, people liked what I wrote...they wrote me such kind words and pleas for continuation. Everyone who liked and commented on the stories gave me hope again, and confidence in myself. So thank you to everyone who read and commented! I'm where I am now because of you all. ,^.^,

I also wrote some KakaHina, GaaraHina, SasuHina, and ItaHina from Naruto...I don't know if I ever posted any...but I ship it.
