A cozy cluster of earth-toned mushrooms nestles on the forest floor in Pretoria, South Africa. There's a touch of whimsy in the way they huddle together, like tiny umbrellas after a rain shower.

Mushrooms! 🍄
This piece was supposed to be a "quick study" that just got way out of hand.
I was having so much fun painting the small details, the light shining through areas, and the many different textures and colors of the mushroom cluster that I ended up spending hours lost in the details.
I wouldn't say it was time wasted though, because I had a fantastic time creating this painting.

Some cluster of fungi I found right in front of my house

Just stumbled upon this cozy cluster of mushrooms here in Pretoria, each one nestling against the next like nature's own little community. They create a charming patchwork on the forest floor, bringing life to the underbrush.

"Scraps II"
Mixed media on wooden mushroom
Approx. 6.25" tall
Here's my piece for the "Cluster 2" show, which runs from April 5th—27th at Nucleus House in Portland. Each artist in the show was given a blank wooden mushroom to work on and I decided to once again transform my mushroom into an apple! 🍏🐞
Check out my apple from last year here! 🍎
This was so fun to see come together. I especially like the fruit sticker and happy apple logo that I came up with 😃
If you're interested in purchasing this piece, go here.

FOTD #123 : clustered blue chanterelle! (polyozellus multiplex)
the clustered blue chanterelle (also blue chanterelle) is a fungus in the family telephoraceae :-) it forms mycorrhizal associations under spruce & fir trees, more often at higher altitudes. so far, it has been collected in the US, canada, haida gwaii, china, japan, & korea.
the big question : can i bite it??
yes !! it is edible.
p. multiplex description :
"individual caps : 2-8 cm wide; more or less round in outline, or irregularly shaped ; finely velvety ; purple to blue or black ; sometimes faintly zoned concentrically, at least texturally ; with a wavy margin that is initially whitish but darkens with maturity.
under-surface : running down the stem ; smooth to wrinkled, or sometimes with gill-like folds (occasionally nearly poroid in places) ; coloured like the cap or paler; blackening with age.
stem : 2-4 cm long ; 0.5-1.5 cm thick ; coloured like the under-surface ; fused with other stems at the base ; solid or becoming hollow.
flesh : deep purple to bluish ; soft, but brittle."

"despite its name, this fungus is not related to the chanterelles in the cantharellus genus !!"
