2 February - Catherine became the royal patron of the Rugby Football Union and Rugby Football League. She visited the England Men's and Women's Rugby Squads at Twickenham Stadium in London. Afterwards she held a Telephonic Meeting with Mr. Ralph Rimmer (Chief Executive Officer, Rugby Football League) and Mr. Jon Dutton (Chief Executive Officer of the Rugby League World Cup).

3 February - Catherine along with King Charles and Queen Camila visited the Future Textiles Project at Trinity Buoy Wharf where they were recieved by Colonel Jane Davis (Vice Lord-Lieutenant of Greater London). Later she held a Centre for Early Childhood Meeting at Kensington Palace.

8 February - She visited Parents and Communities Together Southwark in London. Later in the afternoon held a Meeting with Dr. Sophie Mort (Clinical Psychologist) via telephone.

13 February - Catherine read 'The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark' for the CBeebies Bedtime Story Segment to mark Children's Mental Health Week.

9 February - Catherine held a Video Meeting with The Queen's Ambassador to the Kingdom of Denmark (Mrs. Emma Hopkins). Following this she spoke to Mr. Andreas Rasch-Christensen (Research Director, VIA University College) and Ms. Mette Arnsfelt McPhail (Head of Department of Early Childhood Education and Care, Ministry for Children and Education of Denmark) via video link.

22 February - Catherine was recieved at Copenhagen International Airport by The Queen's Ambassador to the Kingdom of Denmark (Her Excellency Mrs. Emma Hopkins) as she kicked off her trip to the nation with The Centre for Early Childhood. She later visited the Centre for Early Intervention and Family Studies at University of Copenhagen in Nørregade and Børnemuseet: the Children's Museum in Frederiksberg. Catherine subsequently visited the Lego Foundation PlayLab in Humletorvet.

23 February - Catherine visited Stenurten Forest Kindergarten in Ballerup. She later recieved the official welcome to Denmark from Queen Margrethe II and Crown Princess Mary during an audience at Amalienborg Palace. She and Mary later had a private lunch at Frederik VIII’s Palace, before visiting the Danner Crisis Centre in Nansensgade for the final stop on the trip. Catherine arrived back at Heathrow Airport in London.

28 February - Catherine and William along with George attended the Six Nations Rugby Match between England and Wales at Twickenham Stadium in Middlesex.

Nurses are supposed to be ambassadors for healthy lifestyles, by their textbook definition they're meant to take care of the sick.

Yet what if a nurse meant to take care of you couldn't take care of herself or her blossoming waistline? Well, Mikan would definitely fit that ironic role like a glove… which is doubly ironic, considering that her hands were too lardy to even fit in them anymore; Ms. Tsumiki couldn't even lift up a pen anymore considering how her sausage fingers made her near useless at any task unless it was stuff her greedy maw full of schlock she knew was detrimental to her health.

Spilling out of her bandages Mikan had mixed emotions on her newfound heft, the majority of them being shades of shame. She failed. She quite literally had one task at life as she tossed it away for the allure of momentary bliss.

Yet whenever she's alone at her lowest she always has… strange feelings to her status as a fatass. As if she -- deep down liked it and desired to get… even bigger.

The way her body bounced, jiggled, and squished up against furniture whenever she did the task of waddling around her cramped apartment made her feel like she was powerful, as if she was in control over something in her chaotic life. Ruining her waistline made Ms. Tsumiki feel like she was in control and she adored that sensation, she cherished those intoxicating moments..

Like when her stomach would pinch up against the kitchen table after a stuffing session, or how she constantly needed to buy new and sturdier chairs due to her fatass would crush them…

Those moments delighted her!..

Even if it buying four to five new chairs on a semi-frequent basis put a dent into the nurses wallet, it was all worth it.

The King and The Queen Consort afterwards visited Wittenbergplatz Market and were received by the Managing Director of Berlin-Brandenburg Farmers’ Market (Ms Silvia Hintsche). Their Majesties subsequently attended a Plenary Session at the Bundestag and were received by the President of the Bundestag (Ms Bärbel Bas). Ms Bas welcomed The King and The Queen Consort and His Majesty addressed the Session. The King this afternoon visited the Ukraine Arrivals Centre, Tegel Refugee Centre, Berlin, and was received by The President of the Federal Republic of Germany. His Majesty afterwards visited Wasserstrassen und Schifffahrtsamt, Finowfurt, and was received by the Minister President of Brandenburg (Dr Dietmar Woidke). The King, accompanied by the Federal President of Germany, viewed a static display of a British amphibious bridge and a mechanised infantry vehicle before viewing the completion of the amphibious bridge. His Majesty walked on to the bridge and spoke to a group of British and German soldiers. The King later visited Brodowin Organic Farm, Ökodorf Brodowin, Weissensee, Chorin, and was received by Mr and Ms Ludolf von Maltzan (Owners). His Majesty toured the dairy and viewed the ripening rooms before meeting members of the farm staff and young farmers. The Queen Consort, accompanied by Ms Büdenbender (wife of The President of the Federal Republic of Germany), this afternoon visited Refugio Café, Berlin. Her Majesty and Ms Büdenbender afterwards visited Komische Oper, Berlin.

Three suspected spies for Russia in the UK have been arrested and charged in a major national security investigation, the BBC has revealed. The defendants, all Bulgarian nationals, were held in February and have been remanded in custody since. They are: Orlin Roussev, 45, of Great Yarmouth, Norfolk; Bizer Dzhambazov, 41, of Harrow, north-west London; Katrin Ivanova, 31, of the same Harrow address.

It is alleged they were working for the Russian security services. They are charged with possessing identity documents with "improper intention", and are alleged to have had these knowing they were fake. The documents include passports, identity cards and other documents for the UK, Bulgaria, France, Italy, Spain, Croatia, Slovenia, Greece, and the Czech Republic. The three defendants were arrested under the Official Secrets Act by counter-terrorism detectives from the Metropolitan Police, which has national policing responsibility for espionage.

Mr Roussev has a history of business dealings in Russia. He moved to the UK in 2009 and spent three years working in a technical role in financial services. His online LinkedIn profile states he later owned a business involved in signals intelligence, which involves the interception of communications or electronic signals. He also states he once acted as an adviser to the Bulgarian ministry of energy.

Mr Dzhambazov is described as a driver for hospitals, and Ms Ivanova describes herself on her online LinkedIn profile as a laboratory assistant for a private health business. The pair, who moved to the UK around a decade ago, ran a community organisation providing services to Bulgarian people, including familiarising them with the "culture and norms of British society".

The three defendants are due to go on trial at the Old Bailey in London in January, the BBC writes.

Bulgaria’s ambassador to the UK and Northern Ireland Marin Raykov said, for the Bulgarian news agency BTA, that the Bulgarian embassy has not been informed, by the British authorities, of the arrest of the three individuals cited by the BBC.

It comes as the top UN rights forum in Geneva agreed to Member States’ request for a rare Urgent Debate on the issue this Friday.

Addressing the Council, Fawzia Koofi, former deputy speaker of the Afghan Parliament, said lack of opportunity and ailing mental health, was taking a terrible toll: "Every day there is at least one or two women who commit suicide for the lack of opportunity, for the mental health, for the pressure they receive.

“The fact that girls as young as nine years old are being sold, not only because of economic pressure, but because of the fact that there is no hope for them, for their family, it is not normal.”

Bachelet highlights ‘progressive exclusion’

Echoing widespread international concern for ordinary Afghans, UN human rights chief Michelle Bachelet condemned the massive unemployment of women, the restrictions placed on the way they dress, and their access on basic services.

Women-owned and operated businesses have been shut down, Ms. Bachelet added, saying that 1.2 million girls no longer have access to secondary education, in line with a decision by the de facto authorities who took power in August 2021.

“The de facto authorities I met with during my visit in March this year, said they would honour their human rights obligations as far as [being] in line with Sharia law.

“Yet despite these assurances, we are witnessing the progressive exclusion of women and girls from the public sphere and their institutionalised, systematic oppression”.

Ms. Bachelet encouraged the re-establishment of an independent mechanism to receive complaints from the public and protect victims of gender-based violence.

“Beyond being right, it is also a matter of practical necessity”, said the High Commissioner. “Amid the economic crisis, women’s contribution to economic activity is indispensable, which itself requires access to education, and freedom of movement and from violence”.

Women made ‘invisible’

Also speaking at the Human Rights Council, its Special Rapporteur for Human Rights in Afghanistan, Richard Bennett, described a chilling attempt by the Taliban to make women “invisible, by excluding them almost entirely from society”.]

As an example of the de facto authorities’ intentions to impose “absolute gender discrimination”, the independent rights expert also noted that women are now represented by men at Kabul’s Loya Jirga, or grand assembly of religious scholars and elders.

Such measures contravene Afghanistan’s obligations under numerous human rights treaties to which it is a State party, Mr. Bennett insisted before adding that the situation for women “massively diminish(ed) women’s lives, deliberately attack women and girls’ autonomy, freedom and dignity, and create a culture of impunity for domestic violence, child marriage and sale and trafficking of girls, to name but a few of the consequences”.

Promises broken

Despite public assurances from the Taliban to respect women and girls’ rights, they are reinstituting step by step the discrimination against women and girls. Said Ms. Koofi, a former member of the peace negotiation team with the Taliban said that the fundamentalists “obviously have not kept their promises of what they were telling us during the negotiations, in terms of their respect for Islamic rights for women”.

Ms. Koofi added that “in fact, what they do is in contradiction to Islam. Our beautiful religion starts with reading. But today, Taliban under the name of the same religion, deprive 55 percent of the society from going to school”.

Afghanistan’s response

For Nasir Andisha, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Afghanistan to the UN in Geneva, “the situation of women and girls in Afghanistan demands nothing less than a robust monitoring mechanism to collect, consolidate, and analyse evidence of violations, to document and verify information, to identify those responsible to promote accountability and remedies for victims, and to make recommendations for effective prevention for future violations”.

A draft resolution on the situation of women and girls in Afghanistan is being negotiated at the Human Rights Council and will be considered on 7 July.

Highlight South-South cooperation’s role in tackling global challenges.

UNCTAD and its partners have kicked off a three-year global project to help developing countries use a common framework to measure and give more visibility to South-South cooperation.

The project’s first event, organized with Brazil from 11 to 13 July, brought together representatives from 16 countries across Africa, Asia and Latin America. Participants also included economists, statisticians and development experts from over 10 international organizations, including four UN Regional Commissions.

South-South cooperation – when developing countries pool resources or share knowledge, skills and expertise – is a powerful tool that can take many forms.

For instance, Mexico allocated $62 million from 2020 to 2022 for programmes in Honduras and El Salvador that helped improve food security and create jobs for young people, benefitting more than 40,000 people.

Other examples include Brazil and India’s collaboration on satellite technology to monitor deforestation and boost agricultural production, and Colombia and the African Union’s joint projects to empower women through aquaculture in Nigeria, Tanzania and South Africa.

“South-South cooperation is key to achieving the 2030 Agenda and became particularly pronounced during the pandemic when countries came together in solidarity,” said Sumeeta Banerji, a policy specialist at the UN’s Office for South-South Cooperation, who participated in the July event, held in Brasilia and online.

An incomplete picture

But historically global development discussions have leaned exclusively on data from cooperation that also involves developed countries or multilateral organizations – or both.

Without reliable data on South-South cooperation, the picture of international development cooperation remains incomplete.

In March 2022, the UN Statistical Commission introduced a new SDG indicator (17.3.1) to measure “additional financial resources mobilized for developing countries from multiple sources.”

It also welcomed a voluntary common framework designed by developing countries to measure South-South cooperation and provide data for the new indicator.

“Now we have a framework that is made by the South for the South,” Brazilian Ambassador Luiza Lopes of the Brazilian Cooperation Agency said.

“This truly is a historic milestone for South-South cooperation,” added Luciana Mendes Santos Servo, president of Brazil’s Institute of Applied Economic Research.

The UN Statistical Commission asked UNCTAD, as a co-custodian of the new SDG indicator, to coordinate with developing countries further work on the framework, including on reporting and capacity-building.

More than a tool

The framework was developed through a sub-group under the UN’s Inter-agency and Expert Group on SDG Indicators.

The process was inclusive and interactive, and the result reflects the actual practices of the global South – not in the traditional set-up of donor and recipient countries but as equal partners.

“It’s more than just a tool for measurement,” said Ms. Anu Peltola who leads UNCTAD Statistics. “It gives voice for the hope and solidarity of developing countries.”

Mr. Sukhbir Singh, chair of the sub-group that developed the framework, agreed: “For the first time, this framework enables developing countries to tell the story of their development cooperation in numbers and inform South-South cooperation policies with solid data.”

A shared responsibility

Moving ahead, it will be important for participating countries to secure political will and ensure efficient collaboration between government agencies, as data on South-South collaboration will come from many areas, such as health, energy, food security, education and environment.

Also, the scarce resources in many developing countries mean international and regional support will be crucial. Acquiring the national capabilities to consistently collect accurate data is a big task, requiring support from specialized, regional and international organizations.

“The journey ahead may be filled with challenges,” Ms. Peltola said, “but when countries come together with a shared vision, important results can be achieved.”

“It is now the shared responsibility of the UN and the developing countries to make this framework work and tell the story of the global South.”

The United Nations celebrates South-South cooperation every year on September 12th . This year, the day falls just a week before the highly anticipated SDG Summit, offering an opportunity to highlight South-South cooperation’s role in tackling global challenges – and the need to collect more and better data.

JEFFERSON CITY, MO (STL.News) Missouri Governor Parson has announced four appointments to various boards and commissions and filled three county office vacancies. Marcy Anderson of Holden was appointed as the Johnson County Circuit Clerk. Ms. Anderson has served in the Johnson County Circuit Clerks' Office since 1996 and as Chief Supervisor of the Office since 2016.  She is a certified notary and a graduate of Holden High School. Lacey Brumley of Rolla was appointed to the Missouri Board of Occupational Therapy. Ms. Brumley currently serves as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant at Centerwell Home Health in Rolla.  She is a licensed Occupational Therapy Assistant and a member of the Missouri Occupational Therapy Association.  Ms. Brumley holds an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Occupational Therapy from East Central College. Jacob Clary, of Bloomfield was appointed as the Stoddard County Assessor. Mr. Clary currently serves as a Field Appraiser for the Stoddard County Assessor's Office.  He previously served in the United States Army as a Combat Engineer and achieved the rank of Sergeant before being honorably discharged in 2021.  Mr. Clary holds two certificates of training from the Missouri State Assessors Association. Hadley Oden of Hermann was appointed as the Student Representative to the University of Central Missouri Board of Governors. Ms. Oden currently serves as a Student Ambassador and Congresswoman representing the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences within the University of Central Missouri's Student Government Association.  She is a member of the mock trial team and will serve as the team's co-captain in August.  Ms. Oden is pursuing a degree in history with minors in both political science and legal studies. Gary Polk, of Salem, was appointed as the Dent County District Two Commissioner. Mr. Polk has served as owner of Polk Excavating since 1995.  He previously served as owner of Polk Farms. Kerry Robinson of Ballwin was appointed to the Southeast Missouri State University Board of Governors. Mr. Robinson has served as a Professional Baseball Scout for the St. Louis Cardinals since 2010.  He previously served as a professional baseball player for five Major League Teams, including the St. Louis Cardinals and Kansas City Royals.  In addition, he is a 2008 inductee to the Redhawks Athletic Hall of Fame (Baseball) and 2014 Southeast Salutes Recipient award winner.  Mr. Robinson holds a Bachelor of Arts in General Studies (Sports Management) from Southeast Missouri State University. Amy Stark of Nixa was appointed to the Missouri Board of Occupational Therapy. Dr. Stark currently serves as a Professor and Department Chair of Occupational Therapy at Cox College.  She previously served as an Occupational Therapist at Burrell Behavioral Health.  Dr. Stark holds a Doctor of Occupational Therapy from Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions and a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy from the University of Kansas.
