Nalae's pov
It's been 4 months.
I put on this multi colored striped long sleeve crop top sweater. And some blue jeans. I added some jewelry and rings. My hair was slicked back in a half up and half down style, I Spritz myself with some love spell. And rushed to put on my shoes. April banged on my door, rushing me to hurry up. "Come on, bitch, damn! You know that place get pack during lunch hour." She yelled, through the door.
Her outfit and hair
Tumblr media
Since everyone else had something else to do, it was just me and April at home. I grabbed my bag and opened the door. April looked me up and down and said, 'You look Damn good'. Causing me to stick my tongue out at her and complement her too. "Yeah, girl, you looking thicka than a biscuit." She said, patting my ass. I cackled and locked the door behind me.
I finally got my license, so I had the car. We got in the car and started to drive to the restaurant, I wanted to try for the first time. We talked about school, niggas, talked shit about the people we don't like; you know the usual. We finally made it to the restaurant and got out walking in. Today i was going to show April around, since she doesn't come to visit much. I ain't know every part of Philly, but I've been getting around nicely. Hopefully it don't rain because it's been cloudy, and thundering.
We were starving, so I ordered the pizza, wings, salad, nachos, and April wanted the Chicken Alfredo. I noticed April smirking at me, sipping on her drink. "What?" I said, laughing.
"What's going on between you and Lucious? Y'all been getting mad comfortable. Every time I see you, you with him. Holding hands and acting all lovey dovey, it's cute." She said, laughing at me, turning away and acting like I don't hear her.
She snapped her fingers in my face, but I pretended to ignore her. Then i turned to look at her and down at the menu. "Do you think I should order dessert?" I asked her. She popped my hand, and I busted out laughing. "Now answer my question! And yes, what kind they got?" I chuckled at how fat we are.
I looked back at her and shyly smiled, "Nothing is going on. I think we are just friends. He hasn't even asked me to be his girlfriend, even though we have been on plenty of dates." I said, the last part lowly not looking up at her.
"Mmcht. Y'all be on that couple shit. Be kissing each other all in the mouth, last I check friends don't do that. If so, then why wasn't I notified." I laughed loudly at her. One thing about April was she had no filter, she unapologetically herself.
"I mean, we've been talking for a long time, but I don't wanna rush into something I might not like. I'm really not thinking about going to the next level, I'm enjoying just getting to know him. Plus, I'm afraid he might judge me or leave me about.....yknow? He said he wouldn't rush me into something I wouldn't do." I said. Looking at my hands, playing with the end of my sweater. Something I did when I was dissociating or uncomfortable.
April leaned over the table slowly and gently grabbed my hand. "Nae. Nalae, look at me." I lifted my head, looking at her through my lashes. She gave me a sympathetic smile and said. "You can't let what happened to you define you. Because it wasn't your fault, stop letting that fear stop you from your happiness. Whatever that happiness may be, you deserve to be happy, boo. Okay?" I blinked away the burning tears and smiled. "Thanks, Lala. I love you." She kissed my cheek and sat back down in her seat.
"OK, now, let's talk about, Mr. High yella." She said, and I died laughing. "Do you think he's fucking other bitches?" She asked.
"If he is, then it is what it is. If he wanna, an easy girl that'll give it up for the smallest of attention, that's him. Like I said, he ain't asked me to be his girlfriend." I said, even though I felt a little jealous at the thought.
"Come on, now Nae. Y'all gotta feel something for each other? Have you seen the way he looks at you. The way he's overprotective of you, or the way he's gentle and patient with you." She said.
I smiled, putting a fry in my mouth. I know my feelings for Marcus were strong. I never felt like this about anyone. We knew a lot about each other but also so little. I haven't told he everything about myself, and neither has he. He still hasn't told me why he calls himself Lucious Lyon. So even though we've know a lot about each other, we still have a lot to learn about each other.
April was chowing down when I tapped her hand, "Don't you tell anyone this." I told her sternly. She looked at me and could tell I was serious and slowly nodded.
"Marcus told me every girl he's had sex with or been with he's never kissed them on the lips, and he doesn't let them touch his face. And he has never fucked a girl in his house, or his room for that matter." April looked at me with a 'tf' face. I nodded.
"I know right, sounds crazy. But he told me he let's me touch his face and kiss him, because I'm different. And said that he doesn't wanna just fuck me he actually likes me. Like last week he said I was the first girl to even be allowed in his room, since he lost his virginity. Which he told me he was 14." I said.
"Ok, well, if that isn't a sign that he likes you, I don't know what is. He, for real cares for you, Nae. I mean, when you walk the street alone, he walks with you to make sure you're safe. He be buying you jewelry, the streets be talking and word is he ain't never brought jewelry for a girl. I mean, you wearing the necklace he brought you now. " I brushed the new nameplate necklace that said, 'peaches'. I smiled, remembering the day he called me that.
Flashback
"Come, on now, Lucious, you gon make me drop em." Nalae's parents were at work, and Nalae was left at home again, so she invited Lucious over for lunch. And right now, he had his arms around her waist kissing on her neck, making her blush. Nalae placed her bowl of peaches and pineapple on the kitchen counter so she wouldn't drop them. "Can you stop playing, please. How do you want your sandwich?" She asked him.
Lucious back her into the counter, staring into her eyes and lifting her onto the counter. She gasped and hit his arm, trying to push him out the way so she could get back down. Her family was cool with Lucious, but they wouldn't like the position they were in.
"You know what, lil mama, I would like to be sandwiched into something else." He said lowly. Licking his lips. Nalae's face burned, and she shyly pushed his face away.
She picked up her bowl of peaches and began eating them. He chuckled and picked up a chunk of pineapple, putting it into his mouth, "This is literally all you eat." He said, teasing her. She giggled and said, "I love fruit. If that was the only thing I could eat, I would be fine with that. Plus, peaches and pineapple are my favorite fruits."
He stared at her for a minute before smirking at her, "So peaches, loves peaches." He said, looking at her seductively. She scrunched up her face at the nickname and picked up another peach cube, "Peaches? Nah, Nalae, sir." She was going to place the peach in her mouth when he grabbed her hand and said, "Nah, for now on, you're my peaches." And placed the peach in his mouth, sucking her finger.
End of flashback
Siya felt herself get hot and bothered at the memory. That whole day she had to keep her thighs clenched, because he kept teasing her. Making her sexually frustrated.

Narrative
Nalae and April left the restaurant and made it back home, but decided they wanted to take a walk before going in.
They were laughing and talking, just enjoying each other's company. Nalae was looking forward laughing at something April said, when April turned to the right of her to see Lucious, his boys, and the girls looking at them. But Lucious was staring at a certain chocolate skin girl with a smile on his face.
"Well, if you don't believe you two have something. Look at the way homeboy looks at you." April said.
Nalae looked at her confused and looked at the direction she was looking at. And there was Lucious and his boys, their eyes locked on each other, and she shyly looked back forward.
"Your man coming over here." April teased her. Nalae flipped her off and rolled her eyes. She turned to look back at Lucious. She had butterflies erupt in her stomach, Lucious made her nervous every time he was around her. Lucious bit his bottom lip, his peaches looked so good today. And she was wearing his necklace, which was making his dick stand up.
He grabbed on to her sweater, pulling her closer to him, cupping her cheeks and kissing her. He pulled away, brushing her bottom lip, making Nalae melt in his embrace. "How your day been, Mama?" He asked her, looking into her eyes.
She blushed and tried looking down, but he lifted her face, making her make direct eye contact with him. "It was good." She said softly.
"That's good. I see you wearing my necklace." He said, lifting his hand up under the necklace. Brushing his thumb over it. He pecked her lips one more time, causing her to giggle.
"Ahem." They stopped and looked at April, who had her arms crossed and playfully tapped her foot. "Ok, Nae, if you done sucking yo man's face, I'm ready to go home." Nalae snapped her head towards her and glared at her. Lucious looked Nalae up and down and chuckled, pulling her close to him.
"Y'all, wanna come over to our house?" Aaliya asked them.
Everyone nodded, agreeing to come over to Nalae's house, but Lucious had to do something first, and he wanted to bring peaches with him.
"Come with me somewhere." Nalae looked up at him and smiled. "Where we going?" She asked him. He playfully rolled his eyes and pulled her towards his car. "Just come on." She nodded and told her cousins and sister she'll see them later.
He grabbed her hand, walking them towards his car. She blushed at the action. Every time her and Lucious touched, she felt sparks. She looked up at him, and he looked away. She could see a tiny tint of redness in his cheeks, and she quickly looked away. Was....he... blushing?
Nalae had Lucious thinking bout a lot of things. They got into the car and drove off. Lucious had to go home for a second to get something from his uncle. Lucious had one of his songs playing again, and she rapped with the lyrics bobbing her head. He looked at her and smiled big, something about her really enjoying his music; it made him feel good.
Lucious has known Nalae for a whole four months, and in that time, his feelings have grown stronger for her. He was buying her flowers, jewelry, and anything she wanted. But she didn't want a lot of things, she wasn't that type of girl. She said she just wanted to spend time with him and get to know the real him. And that confused Lucious.
But Lucious did know quite a lot about Nalae, but he knows she hasn't told him everything. But neither has he. But he was willing to tell her anything. When his uncle and boys tell him he's in love with Nae, he couldn't even front anymore because deep down, he knew it was true.
Nalae Jackson had him hooked. But he didn't know that she felt the same, she was falling mad fast. Her chocolate brown eye's, her white Colgate smile, her laugh, her smartness, they way she confidently held her own. And didn't take shit from nobody. Nalae Jackson had sinked her teeth into Marcus Parker, and she won't letting go.
He had already fallen for her, and that scared the hell outta him. Because Nalae was a good girl, and Marcus knew he wasn't good enough for her. Yet he was too much of a selfish bastard and refused to let him go.

Jodeci (/ˈdʒoʊdəsi/ JOH-də-see) is an American R&B quartet consisting of members DeVanté Swing, Mr. Dalvin, K-Ci, and JoJo. Formed in 1989 in Charlotte, North Carolina, Jodeci's members began their musical careers as two duos of brothers and, after years of limited success, joined forces. After signing with Uptown Records in 1991, the group began to work on their debut album, Forever My Lady, which brought them mainstream success with the Billboard Hot 100 single "Come and Talk to Me" and the album's titular track.

Mokenstef: The Voices Behind the TikTok Trend
The lanes of TikTok are far and wide for macro and microtrends to flourish. One of the many sounds that touched virality came from the underrated 90’s R&B girl group, Mokenstef. The trend used a sped-up sample of their hit single “He’s Mine” where users would show a compilation of screenshots and/or pictures of a sneaky link or their significant other. Despite the potential dangers of posting acts of infidelity with somebody else’s girlfriend or boyfriend, the trend was interesting nonetheless. Once again, the TikTok sound nostalgia took me down the rabbit hole to figure out whatever happened to this group. What was their origin story? When we think of the mainstream female 90’s R&B group, we think of Destiny’s Child, Xscape, SWV, or En Vogue, but why not Mokenstef? First and foremost, Mokenstef gets the utmost respect for their name, akin to Jodeci, the ladies used their first names to create the group name: Monifa Bethune, Kenya Hadley, Stefanie Sinclair. (For those who don’t know, Jodeci’s name is a combination of the names of their group members: DeVanté Swing, Mr. Dalvin, K-Ci, and JoJo.) To my surprise, these Los Angeles-raised ladies were dancers first. From taking auditions to become dancers in Michael Jackson’s “Remember the Time” music video to Fly Girls for In Living Color, dancing was their first love.
While doing shows with rapper AMG, Mokenstef met with the owner of Outburst Records, an independent West Coast-based label distributed under Def Jam Recordings, and then signed a record contract in 1994. Contrary to popular belief, the members of Mokenstef were college students. They hired an attorney (unfortunately not an entertainment attorney) and reviewed the contract line by line. Unfortunately, Stefanie shared in an interview from “Halftime Chat” that they potentially missed out on different perks of a regular contact because they were vocal and diligent about the offerings listed in their contract.
Now, let’s fast-forward to the beautiful melody “He’s Mine”. Mokenstef all collaboratively wrote the single from the perspective of a current girlfriend being confronted by a bitter ex-girlfriend. As young women having fun in the studio, they had no idea the implications of the song’s message to the mass audience would be seen as a “pass” to cheat because you may “got him all the time”. Even after discovering this song as a child, I always thought the message gave delusional vibes. However, once upon a time, I was in a very similar situation. After a third cup of mystery punch at a Friendsgiving party, I began sharing a story very loudly of an ex who kept trying to get my attention for months and went as far as to buy me DaBaby tickets to court me back (I was a huge DaBaby groupie at the time so that was the key to my heart). Unbeknownst to me, a friend of my ex’s current girlfriend was in the room. Fast forward 48 hours, we ended up on a three-way call and the lady could’ve just played this song and hung up because she definitely wasn’t leaving that man. Shawty even canceled the concert ticket, but the gag was the concert ended up getting canceled nonetheless due to DaBaby missing his flight and getting arrested thus after. But anyways, despite “He’s Mine” peaking at #7 on the US Billboard Hot 100, the song financially cost them significantly. Utilizing the label’s in-house production team, “He’s Mine” uses samples from “Be Alright” by Zapp and “Do Me, Baby” by Prince. So, in addition to sharing publishing with their label’s production team, they also had to cut a bigger check to Prince and Zapp. Their follow-up and quite underrated single, Sex in the Rain only peaked at #63 on the Billboard R&B Singles chart with their album release falling shortly after. Due to the now-defunct label failing to deliver to the group’s standards, Mokenstef requested to be released from Outburst Records. While the music industry changed with the decline of CD sales to the introduction of CD burning, the ladies of Mokenstef pivoted back to the regular workforce.
All in all, these college-educated women reviewed their contract line by line and were firm on the group’s expectations, and still fell victim to the downsides of the music business. Despite the lack of success of Mokenstef’s first and only released album, “He’s Mine” contains a message that has transcended time and is worthy of every note of recognition.

A Look Into the "Golden Age" of R&B
From its funk and jazz influences, show-stopping vocalists, sassy and confident girl groups, to the expressive falsettos of boy groups, R&B from the 90s was truly an era to remember. 90s R&B paved the way for today's landscape of popular music. Black female artists such as Brandy, Aaliyah, and Mary J. Blige dominated the scene and defined what it meant to be an innovative voice in the music industry. If you want to take a deeper dive into the music of this scene, I would recommend checking out the songs Complex named the fifty best songs of 90s R&B. But today, we will be exploring four songs from this scene that I feel really represent its overall sound and ethos.
Everything about 90s R&B was iconic. The fashion, the attitude, and of course, the romanticism. One song which fused the romantic and confident elements of the scene's lyricism was Brandy and Monica's "The Boy is Mine". The song is considered by some to be the female version of Micheal Jackson and Paul McCartney's song "The Girl is Mine".
youtube
Brandy and Monica were only 17 and 19 at the time of the song's release, revealing their early talent and promise. The two received a grammy for "Best R&B Performance by A Duo or Group" for this song and it became the all-time #1 female duet in chart history. The song is from the perspective of two girls who are fighting over a guy and it is both entertaining and impressive to see how far the girls took this fictitious drama. With self-righteous lyrics like "You're the past, I'm the future", the track is filled with competitive and feisty energy that makes the imagined beef almost seem real. The music video equally depicts the feud as fiery as it is in the lyrics and tone of the girl's voices. The song goes to show the petty behavior that girls may treat each other with when they get involved with the same guy, but as the video depicts, in the end the girls work through their disagreements, confronting the two-timing guy who had relations with both of them at the same time.
youtube
Other female artists who wrote with conviction about love and romance were the best-selling American girl group, TLC. TLC included singers Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins, Rozonda "Chili" Thomas, and rapper/singer, Lisa "Left-eye" Lopes. Women in 90s R&B often emphasized their high standards for a boyfriend and the common link between female artists of the time was expressing their desire for a guy who offered his proper time and attention, but also a guy who could provide for her financially. TLC's "No Scrubs" exemplifies this standard and expresses frustration with dating guys who couldn't financially sustain themselves and had to rely on their girlfriends for money. The song made it apparent that they would not tolerate this type of behavior and makes kicking a broke boyfriend to the curb sound incredibly catchy.
youtube
The most popular male R&B groups of the time had a more gospel and choir influenced sound from the female artists I have mentioned above and explored their perspective on love and romance in their lyrics differently as well. Although many explored this topic through cringe-worthy innuendos expressing their desire to "freak", there are also gorgeous romantic ballads that have come from these groups. One of the most popular boy groups of the time, Jodeci, consisted of two groups of brothers: Devante Swing, Mr. Dalvin, K-Ci, and JoJo who joined forces to make beautiful, soul inspired R&B music. Their breakout single "Come & Talk to Me" put them on the map to success. In their songs, they mainly discuss love and romance and putting everything on the line for the person you love. Their songs are relatable to anyone who has experienced love before and their vocals are enough on their own to keep you hooked.
youtube
Another boy group with sensational vocal skills and soul is Philadelphia-based acapella and vocal group Boyz II Men. Their career was jump started in the 90s with top singles "End of The Road", "Motownphilly", and "It's So Hard to Say Goodbye". In their songs, members Wanya Morris, Michael McCary, Nathan Morris, Shawn Stockman, and Marc Nelson engage in exceptional balladry and express their deepest emotions and feelings about their partners. The amount of sheer vulnerability and emotional expression from their lyrics was refreshing and a real shift from the sentiment expressed in hip hop by male artists.
youtube
Overall, 90s R&B was a beloved era of music for all the right reasons. There was no other time in which R&B artists really pushed the envelope and topped the charts with their groundbreaking sound and style. R&B and pop music of today would not be the same without the sheer originality and unique sounds R&B artists of the 90s brought to the music industry. Never again would such incredible vocalists thrive and exist in this space and have such commercial success at one time. Long-adored artists such as Micheal Jackson and Janet Jackson had actual competition alongside new artists who were making music of similar quality. It is hard to imagine this ever being possible today with the formulaic and uninspired music on the charts today. With today's popular music being so underwhelming, it is easy to see why so many people return to 90s R&B to reminisce on all its nostalgic glory.

WEEK 1 - Wrap Up
HANG IN THERE!!!!
Guys, welcome to week 1 of the 2023 season! It's going to be a great year...I can feel it! Just like the video above..we are going to spend the next 14 weeks finding out who can hang on and make it to the playoffs and then...survive all the way to the championship game. I know some of you take fantasy football more serious than others. Personally, I feel those that don't spend at least 6 hours a week on fantasy strategy and team maintenance don't deserve a place in the final 3 weeks but that's not up to me. If it were up to me I would dedicate my entire week 24/7 to this shit. But, I have bills to pay and responsibilities, so I have to limit it to 20-24 hours a week. Anyway, good luck to everyone...I'm so glad we are back!
BACKDOOR BANDITS vs LONG LEFT BALLERS
Tumblr media
Pretty sure on this one Kyle was hoping for more than 6.56 points out of his QB, Lamar Jackson...but he also probably didn't count on Nick Folk (Bebo's Titan Kicker) throwing up 18. Whatever the expectations were - this was the first match up of the year to end on Sunday and Bebo took the win 86 to 77. Knowing Kyle he will say his internet connection was funky and he meant to put Derek Carr in for Lamar and blame the whole loss on me...but no matter what is said or not said - Bebo get's the W and Kyle get's the L. Nice win Bebo...1-0 has to feel pretty good for a guy who still owes his fantasy fees.
HOWARD vs FUNK GUY
Tumblr media
(this paragraph was written before the ending)
Ummm...Funk Guy beat Howard. Also, Funk Guy only had 62.90 points. WHAAAAAT? Things that contributed to Dana's win and Howard's loss? Well for Howard it was Joe Burrow with 3.18 points, Dallas Goedert with ZERO, Chase with 4.10 and Swift with .30. Pretty rough first week. For Dana, the Jacksonville Jaguars putting up 15 and Jalen Hurts squeaking out 14.50 was enough for him to put together a winning week. Congrats Dana. It's always good to beat a 3 time champion to start out the season.
(this is the correct ending)
Howard Wins. Jets defense...did it all. Sorry Dana!
LANAKILA vs TuPADRE
Tumblr media
In the first game for the new Gullahorn "father/son" collaboration era - Lanakila said "No. Two is not better than 1 returning champion". Going into the night - Cliff was finished and had 103.44. The Gullahorns had 89.56 and Kicker Tyler Bass still to play...so they needed 14 from their kicker. Why were they in this position? Because Higgins (WR Cincinnati) decided to not get any points because the Bengals played like ass on Sunday and costs the commissioner $25 on fanduel. But, nonetheless - on Monday night - the Gully's did have a chance and came very close...they just came up a wee bit short. Congrats Cliff...could this be a back to back season with the trophy?
MOOSES ON THE LOOSES vs TRADE WITH ME
Tumblr media
Just what everyone wanted to see...the Moose grabbing a win in week 1. Brett, what the hell! We all had such high hopes for you. You had one job - to beat Mitch and you let us all down! Personally, I feel like Mitch is still pissed about not getting his way on the PPR or 1/2 PPR or whatever he was selling and so now he is going to go off and have a 13 game winning streak (losing to Malik my Balls of course). Brett had a rough go of it from Daniel Jones, Renfrow, Waller and Giants Defense...while the Moose killed it with the nicest QB in the league Kirk Cousins, Aaron Jones, Tony Pollard and David Montgomery. Nice win Mitch. Going into MNF you do have high point - and if it hits I will pay out immediately!
BOOMER SOONER vs MR AWESOME
Tumblr media
Well, this one was a bit of a nail biter. Gabe, aka Mr Awesome had his score locked in at 101.52 - no more players to play. Stu Jones only had 65.22 but had Dalvin Cook, Garrett Wilson and Stefon Diggs to play in the MNF match up. So he needed 36.3 from 3 pretty great players. Projections had Stu only putting up 93 points but as it is with MNF anything can happen. As the night went on...it became more and more obvious that without Aaron Rodgers - Wilson and Cook were not going to be able to help Stu enough. But thanks to overtime...Stu pulled it out by less than 1 point! .20 margin...he wins. Sorry Gabe...I guess your autodraft mid draft wasn't the play :)
MALIK MY BALLS vs TREE HUGGERS
Tumblr media
And, yes...i found myself just trying to stay alive in week 1 on Monday Night. With a new name and a new team...I worked so hard to make sure I had the right line up....but in the minutes leading up to the first game - I made a big mistake by changing my line up. I pulled Mostert and put in Deon Jackson (INDY RB) because the "experts" said he was going to be the lone back and get tons of carries. They were right he did get a ton of carries, but he fumbled most of them and ended up with negative points. Going into MNF - Tree Huggers was up 12 points with Bills Defense still to play. I had Josh Allen left and was just hoping that he showed up and had an epic night...but he really didn't. Throwing 3 interceptions and not looking like the dominating Josh Allen of the past...coupled with Aaron Rodgers going down....and the Jets not scoring...the Bills Defense held their points and I just couldn't catch Scott. I lose! It's sucks. But of course I am happy for Scott. Of course I am.
SURVIVOR
Tumblr media
Yep. Everyone moves on but me. I see all the picks...try to make my own picks and not be influenced...and then I always lose. Vikings can suck it. Breen OUT!
CHEERLEADER OF THE WEEK
Tumblr media
First Cheerleader of the year is Melissa from the 49ers. She is a 6 year veteran to the squad...so she knows what the hell she is doing. When she shows up on game day she isn't still trying to learn her routines if you know what I mean. Since the 49ers were so great this week she was the perfect choice for week 1 Cheerleader of the Week. Let's go!
