@chrisoels tagged me to list 9 of my favourite shows, that was fun – thank you 💛 Here they are in no particular order:
1. Buffy The Vampire Slayer. To me, it’s perfect. I got my handle from it. I watched it with a dedicated group back in the days and alone and still have some merch and some research literature lying around though the poster of the musical episode is gone.
2. Superstore. It’s funny until it isn’t. Not a weak season and a perfect ending. I’m invested in all the characters. Binged it through the pandemic.
3. Derry Girls. Pure 90s nostalgia and Sister Michael. And Michelle. And the wee lesbian.
4. Orange Is The New Black. So many women, so queer right from the start. Didn’t like every season or every development and Piper and Alex are a toxic mess. But still, I’m in love with them.
5. Mord mit Aussicht. Not where I grew up but a bit like where I grew up. The quirks of rural life.
6. Popular. Ryan Murphy’s (I think) first endeavor. Before Glee and all. Weird, funny and short-lived. It gave fanfiction the wonderful pairing of Brooke and Sam. (Fun fact: One fan story features a queer bar in a small greek village that I thought was entirely fictional until I danced years later in said village and said bar and recognized the name and the place.)
7. Golden Girls. I totally credit Dorothy, Blanche, Rose and Sophia for some of my skills in maintaining friendships and living together.
8. Grace and Frankie. Another smart and warm hearted show about friendship and family (and getting older).
9. Tatort. Because of Tatort Hamburg and Julia Grosz. (And Falke. And me getting back into writing and getting to know lovely folks along the way.)

It's truly interesting that a ca. 10 year old crime series (Mord mit Aussicht) has a whole fucking episode of one of the police officers (Bärbel) falling for another woman and having to fight against internalized homophobia and coming to the realisation that she likes girls (she is very against being a lesbian at first esp because she likes guys too, bi would actually fit her more, not that she knows this) , while getting actually supported by everyone around her
Like it's not the whole theme of the episode, that's still the murder, but it's a huge part of it amd it's portrayed as perfectly normal and fine
Idk my dad is currently watching it and I just eanted to dhare my thoughts

▼ Jenny Calendar
◽ Bärbel Schmied (can you believe we see Sophie and Dietmar's home but never Bärbel's?)
▼ childhood headcanon
there are so many good headcanons out there about jenny's childhood and how good or bad or difficult her upbringing was and i'll forever be mad that the buffy writers never bothered to expand on that part of her character. personally, i'd like to believe she had a good childhood, even if she was somewhat sheltered. she wasn't a rebellious kid, that came later. she grew up very sure of herself and her place in the world. she has older sisters that left home long before she did and she grew apart from when she moved to america but they were close when they were children. the three of them would make up songs and poems and call them their "spells". her oldest sister made multiple attempts to teach her how to sew and they all ended badly, usually with needles being thrown. jenny still thinks about those lessons whenever she tries to mend her clothes.
■ bedroom/house/living quarters headcanon
we never see bärbel's home but she's my wife so i am an excellent authority on what her home looks like. she likes cozy spaces and mismatched furniture. there are lamps and strings of lights everywhere and she hasn't turned on an overhead light on in years. she cannot keep a plant alive but loves being surrounded by nature so she has a lot of fake plants and flowers all over the place. there's lots of handmade items gifted from various members of her family and family friends, like embroidered cushions and knitted blankets. she has a stack of recipe books that heike has given to her over the years for birthdays and christmases and she's never opened a single one. she never remembers to make her bed but does the dishes every single day.
