With Cora and Ampersand very probably going off-world for a while, you just know there is going to be a moment of stabbing heartbreak with Olive.

Olive, an eight year-old terribly afraid of monsters in Axiom’s End and feeling incredibly betrayed when Cora tells her there aren’t any monsters and yet THERE SURE WAS SOMETHING RAIDING THE APPLE COMPUTER LAST NIGHT

Olive, whom we only hear about in concept from Kaveh in Truth of the Divine

Lindsay Ellis has a wonderful, heartbreaking way of incorporating her real-life experiences into her work, perhaps most prominently and recently with her frustrating search for a therapist in her area able to understand online harassment, because somehow in the year of our Lord 2022 nobody in the greater Los Angeles area has been trained to really understand modern-day online harassment. Multiple people have failed Lindsay. Cora too has a harrowing scene I won’t totally spoil here that lands Kaveh and Sol arguing with a head dick in charge because Cora can’t exactly just frolic to therapy sharing she’s the prime translator and diplomat for a whopping nine-foot alien with whom she has an equally whopping emotional bond and a wee little translator in her ear so he can tell her all his thoughts! Meaning of course, how on Earth is she supposed to heal?

Ellis recently shared her experiences at VidCon and how the people there talked about her like she was dead. Cora might find herself experiencing much the same surreality when she reappears on Earth after being off-world for many, many years, and the memory of her has been immortalized in just a photo.

The heartbreak too you just know is coming is when Cora at some point comes face-to-face with her little sister Olive, perhaps grown older than Cora physically is,

And she’s looking at her with the daggers in their mother’s eyes, like Cora was the worst possible monster Olive ever could have faced.

how we feeling on the grammy nominations

woke up this morning, did a quick skim of the list, laughed heartily and went right back to sleep. all in all its just. classic feeble grammys but the weight lost from the big name withdrawals (dawn fm, silk sonic, etc) is incredibly noticeable this year. no amount of parading around pop powerhouses like Adele/Harry/Bey or clinging to the same old Beck/H.E.R nominations gives this little paper ship the illusion of an anchor. esp with some of the genuinely despicable individuals they've chosen to spotlight.

what song makes you feel better? hmmmm, there are a lot really, mostly old songs my mom used to play in the car, so a lot of Nat King Cole, John Denver, and Simon & Garfunkel. If I had to pick one, maybe The Hawk and The Eagle (John Denver)?

2. what’s your feel-good movie? I have a handful of movies I go for when I'm just needing to watch something I know by heart and can wrap around me like a blanket. The Last Unicorn (classic, gorgeous work, and Molly Gru's speech is done so well), Krull (look at baby Liam Neeson in one of his first roles! Giggle at the bad dialogue and hammy acting from the lead! Look at that very well done stop motion giant spider!), Fantastic Planet (lets hear it for amazing niche science fiction! This movie is paper cut animation! And it's actually the first movie i can remember seeing, ever. Mom had a VHS copy when i was a kid and I loved it, but wasn't allowed to watch it as much as some bc mom didn't want to wear it out, because it was the only copy she'd ever been able to find), and Knives Out (a more recent edition but idk it's just so satisfying) are a few.

Dere Types Used Outside of Anime with Examples

But I would advise to open that link in new tab so you don’t lose this post too.

Anyway, while the dere types may be more prevalent in the anime since they’re Japanese terms, but there are characters outside of anime who also display the qualities of the stereotypical deres. However because the photos are limited, I will only display the images of the top examples in my opinion, and I will also display other examples at the bottom of each image in bold.

NOTE: If I happen to add a specific character more than once, that’s because they fit into multiple dere types.
