Sometimes her past chased her like ghosts that haunt. She’s longed for love so treacherously long. She’s searched high and low trying to find it from a man. She found herself in dark places just to get something to fill the void in her life. She was confused when guys would reach for her only to let go once again. The more she tried to be loved, the more she lost pieces of herself. Her relationships were battlefields that left her soul mangled and bleeding. Words she wanted to hear became her death trap, because they were never backed up by the true actions of love. She meant every action of affection she gave, but somehow they not only were not valued, they were thrown away. She didn’t know what was wrong with her. She was told she was pretty and beautiful and that she was warm and she was kind…yet she never was enough for him to stay. Promised forevers went unfulfilled. They all walked away. Her heart was like a mirror shattered to pieces on the ground, and though she tried to find herself by looking in each piece, it was impossible to see herself whole again. Each time, and with each season’s passing, there was less and less of her in that mirror. There came many times when she cried out to God in her grief, confusion, and pain. Sometimes all she could do was whisper His name…and He always came. Looking back now, she knows He was there…the whole time, He was there. She just was so engulfed and surrounded by the dark night of her soul, that she couldn’t feel Him beside her. She slowly understood that her value could never come from a man: not from her earthly daddy, or from any other man. She came to realize it wasn’t her job to try to heal herself on her own. He told her so. “It’s not your job to heal your broken heart. I heal the broken hearted and I set the captives free.” From that moment it became easier. Her healing came like waves of the sea… Wave after wave His love washed out the debris and cleansed her heart. His love is constant and sure just like the ocean tides. She learned to let herself be loved by Him. He never leaves her and never forsakes her. Her love she gave to Him could be trusted. He valued and wanted her love. Later by layer Jesus healed her. She grew stronger in the truth of who she was each day. She broke the cycle of chasing the affections of men, and instead received relentless love from Him. She’s no longer a mirror that’s cracked and bleeding. Her heart has become stained glass window full of colors and the brilliance of many beautiful moments with the lover of her soul…Her Lord. She stopped the cycle of settling for less that what He had for her. She’s not like the woman at the well anymore.
