‘I wasn’t allowed to watch scary things, so I told one of the stories my childhood best friend and neighbor told me. The one about the girl in the mirror.
But the thing is, when he would tell me these stories, I would cover my ears and squeal and giggle and miss half the tale, so I wasn’t sure on the specifics of WHY there was a girl in the mirror. I just knew there was one. And supposedly, you could evoke her to appear, covered in blood, by saying her name three times in the mirror in the dark.
You know this story. Everyone has some version of this story.
So I told it.’

Some of my favorite webcomics that you should totally read if you haven't because I'm back to binging them:
Shoot Around by Suspu on Webtoons
Highschool basketball team and their coach trying to survive the zombie apocalypse that happens during their practice. Lots of queer, POC, and disability rep. Very cute art style, possibly my favorite webcomic to exist. Some of the themes are quite heavy and it takes a very interesting approach to the "big bad group of survivors as the antagonist" trope. Has a polyamorous couple towards the end.
Yuna & Kawachan by Lauren Schmidt on Webtoon
Monsters invade Yuna's hometown and after finding out that her family was evacuated without her, she teams up with a mute stranger in a Kawachan mascot suit to try and survive until the evacuations resume. Turned out to be a lot creepier than I anticipated and again has a lot of POC rep, as well as dealing with mental health issues (specifically PTSD). This one is a Daily Pass series but it's worth the wait.
Finding Home by Hari on Tapas
A cook trying to get back home becomes traveling companions with a fae healer and the two slowly fall in love. Deals with a lot of very heavy themes like abuse and SA, as well as racism, PTSD, and alcoholism. MLM romance with polyamory and demisexual rep. The miscommunication troupe is strong with this one. You will probably cry.
Seemingly Dark by RaptorJules on Tapas
A widowed mailman and single father picks up a hitchhiker, which may have started the apocalypse. After her own encounter with the hitchhiker, his SIL starts searching into his identity with the help of a famous podcast host who happens to be highschool sweethearts with the barista who works for the SIL. Queer, nonbinary, and POC rep. Depicts both physical and emotional abuse and PTSD, as well as depression, grief, and homophobia/transphobia. This one isn't completed but it's really really good so far. The author has a second series about the podcaster and barista called Mil-Liminal that's not too far along yet.
Charity Case by Malacandrax on Tapas
A musician struggling to find gigs moves in with a couple after losing their job and finding herself unable to pay rent. She joins their band and begins to develop feelings for them both. It's poly and very cute, everyone in the relationship has very good communication although the miscommunication troupe still haunts them like the relentless bitch it is. The protagonist is gender questioning, and there's additional trans, nonbinary, and obviously queer rep as well as a really good depiction of anxiety. This one is complete, but some of the last chapter + the epilogue is still in Early Access.
Winter Before Spring (GL) by moonbun on Webtoons
Hana falls in love with her best friend Minji and the two begin dating, but Minji turns out to just be using her to raise her grades and spreads a rumor that Hana forced her to date her, and she begins being bullied horribly. A new student joins the school and Hana begins to develop feelings for her but struggles with internalized homophobia and anxiety due to her ex-gf and bullies. The main pairing is WLW as well as a side couple. This one is currently on hiatus until it launches on as an Original.

What would be your favorite queer horror media?
Oh Boy So i think this question is just asking what type of media i enjoy and to answer that I will say Movies, though i'll admit it is hard for me to sit down and consume any kind of media, i have to be in a right mindset for it.
HOWEVER since we are here, I also think its asking what my FAVORITE thing is, and honestly I want to answer this one with a huge wonderful list of amazing things for you to consume, i feel like there could be and should be so much more, which..i guess with Mil-Liminal is kinda what im trying to do, but lets get into some things that might fall under the genre that i enjoy.
Of course the Welcome to Nightvale podcast, was probably my first big experience with queer media in the spooky or weird genre, and also one of the first i experienced with wholesome queer rep instead of just bury your gays tropes all over the place.
Wildelife, Lies Within and Black Water (right here on tumblr) all have queer rep and are comics i personally enjoy!
Heres some movies i think could fit the question, I'm picking my personal faves, and trying to pick some that might not be AS well known as any old rotten tomatoes list ya know?
first off, She Creature, which is pretty old, but who doesn't like scary mermaids and wlw relationships? its a strange movie and i haven't watched it in ages but worth a visit for a fun spooky perspective.
There might be some who will fight me on this, but Let The Right One In. I understand as a nonbinary person that there are themes that are problematic in the film, but i also understand this was one of the first time i saw someone just a little bit like me on screen in a horror film. so im counting it. (also i should clarify that i mean the 2008 version, not the American remake.)
The Hunger. Listen, its got Bowie in it as a vampire. 'nuff said.
All Cheerleaders must Die. Its just fun ok? I love camp and i love gay camp.
Im going to add ParaNorman because it is SUCH a good movie, and its almost the only time ive seen a cartoon go there without making it a bad joke.
the Fear Street trilogy is fun. fight me.
Bride of Frankenstein(1939)! The Haunting(1963)! Fright Night(1985)!
And finally, ok so I personally am not a big reader, but i consulted one of my best pals who is a librarian (as well as the editor for Seemingly Dark and Mil-Liminal!) @lesbrarians, and here is what they had to say!
'The Luminous Dead by Caitlin Starling (sci-fi horror)
The Cabin at the End of the World by Paul Tremblay (afaik Tremblay isn't queer himself, but I still love his stuff and this one was great) White is for Witching by Helen Oyeyemi (gothic horror, v much in the vein of Shirley Jackson)
Sodom Road Exit by Amber Dawn (supernatural thriller plus family drama)
The Taking of Jake Livingston by Ryan Douglass (obvs every one of these has some kind of tw attached to it bc cmon, it's horror, but massive tw here for school shootings, it's heavy af and you gotta be in the right frame of mind for it obvs, but it's fantastic)
Alice Isn't Dead by Joseph Fink (set in the world of WtNV!)
Wilder Girls by Rory Powers (body horror galore)
The Gilda Stories by Jewelle Gomez (bisexual vampires)
Into the Drowning Deep by Mira Grant (mermaids but make it horror)
Honorary mentions to Jawbone by Monica Ojeda and Summer Sons by Lee Mandelo (only because I haven't read them yet haha, they sound dope) Oh, and Sawkill Girls by Claire Legrand, haven't read it yet myself either but I've heard nothing but good things! CARMEN MARIA MACHADO Her Body and Other Parties! The Lamb Will Slaughter the Lion and The Barrow Will Send What May by Margaret Killjoy -- trans punk anarchists facing down demons!' -quoted from discord lmao
ANNNND there you have it. You probably werent expecting all that but horror IS my thing after all, and i thought it would be fun to give a in depth fully fledged reply. Now tell me Readers, Listeners and Watchers, do you have any recs for me?
-Caro

👻 IT'S HERE! PRESENTING CARO GREENE'S MIL-LIMINAL-THE PODCAST! 👻
Consider this a soft launch cuz i know it's not live on ALL services yet, but you can now listen to the introduction episode of Caro's podcast, Mil-Liminal on Youtube, Podcast Addict, Podbean, and Spotify, and probably more cuz idk how distribution works.
There will be a full length episode soon, but for now, take a listen to the intro, and if you like it, share it to your friends to help people find it! Its written in a way anyone can jump in, even if they aren't familiar with the comics or characters. Thank you SO MUCH for all the support getting here, I'm so happy to finally be able to do this!
Mil-Liminal is a cozy horror podcast featuring the charming and slightly unhinged Caro Greene, an employee working the counter during the night shift at a tiny gas station in the middle of the woods. Join their journey of witnessing the unexplainable! Liminal spaces, ghosts and ghouls galore, there won't be any jump-scares or hopelessness, just unsettling vibes with moments of comedy to lighten the mood. The podcast is in canonical order, meaning the first episode is Caro's first 'episode' as well, learning as they go to create their podcast.

Since the podcast exists now, and it’s in canonical order which means they are still baby, I thought it would be fun to make Caro a little character sheet for that era of their life. The In-Between era, if you will.
So we have gas-station work uniform, work-out/running fit, and casual wear, and of course featuring the legendary mullet. Caro’s doing a lot of self healing and recovery from a lot of damage inflicted on them growing up, but they are certainly reveling in new found freedom and having a safe space to figure their life out now!
This style is cute, I don’t use it a lot but a few people have requested a look book of Caro’s outfits, and also refs for cosplay (eehehehehe) so I thought I’d do a more simple style if I’m gonna make that. This is a start at least.

‘I thought about calling my childhood neighbor’s old number, the one whose jacket I had stolen that was slung in the back of the car. Even though he’d been gone for years now, I had the urge to hear the silly recording on his answering machine.’ -Mil-Liminal the Podcast, episode 1
I drew this in like an hour cuz I needed some comfort food for my brain, but addressing hearing them talk about him in the podcast.
John and Caro are from my comic and podcast Mil-Liminal 🖤

I was a little worried that the Mil-Liminal podcast wouldn't be as good as I hoped, since to my knowledge you write comics and I wasn't sure how well it would translate to the podcast format. GODDAMN DID YOU PROVE ME WRONG. Your pilot episode is fuckin epic! Lowkey in love with the bit where Caro is like. Okay now close your eyes (I did). And then slowly builds up this cool picture of what their little liminal world is like. Also the opening music fuckin slaps, did you make it? Are you going to upload the music on its own because I want to listen to it.. So fuckin cool very excited to see more of this
Tumblr media
HAHA me too honestly, i was/am pretty terrified to put myself out there in a more tangible way like this, like...letting people perceive me as a story teller instead of just a writer/artist. THANK YOU FOR TELLING ME YOU LIKED IT omg this means everything to me honestly. Im so glad your enjoying it so far, i cant wait to get the real ep up in a couple days! thank you thank you thank you i need the validation food so much haha!
As for the music, i didnt make it but it was made for me. i had a pretty good idea what i wanted, and my extremely talented partner @snakepixel dabbles in music as well as game development and he created it for me a couple years ago, when i first had the idea to create the podcast. (he is also responsible for the logo designs of both Mil-Liminal and Seemingly Dark!) He says its just midi and isnt sure it would translate well to just be listened too on its own, but ill throw it here for you so you can hear it without Caro talking over it. The more ominous music throughout the pod is the same music, he slowed it down and took out some of the sounds to create it. Here's the main intro before it loops <3
ANYWAY thank you so much, honestly, i've gotten some feedback but it always helps to hear im doing pretty ok so far, i appreciate you so much! See you soon for episode one!
