Had a revelation this morning (not really, i thought of this before but it particularly struck me this time)
But Scara,,, hating the Shogun is a (relatively speaking) new development
Cause when he woke up, its canon that he aint got no heart no more, and thus couldn’t feel (+ understand..? Maybe?) emotions
Its only when he gets to the forge and he meets Katsuragi, Nagamasa, and the gang (WHO HE CALLS HIS FAMILY. AAA) that he gets to witness emotions that arent whatever Ei was feeling at that time
So, he wouldn’t even have been ABLE to hate her anyway.
But, being at the forge is really important to his lore, not just because Katsuragi died.
It might just be me, but even though I know it, i tend to forget that like, scara’s a puppet and he was never exactly like,, a baby baby, like how you think of when you hear the word baby. Just a Littol guy.
But that doesnt mean that he NEVER was a baby. He was, just in the way dolls are. So.. when was he a baby? Or at the very least, some sort of child mind?
Tumblr media
If you said the forge! That is 100% right. The people at the forge were the first people he ever had prolonged contact with (since technically he did know Ei, and likely Yae too). He’s still young, he doesnt know how people work, he was left alone with like,, nothing except his clothes, literally. So the people like Katsuragi, Nagamasa, Kinjiro, Nozomu, and Miyazaki, they were his FAMILY. They were the people he looked up to. They were the people that he learned from.
And since Scara is just a child here, not only does he take in knowledge of forging, and whatever else they taught him about the world, but he probably MIMICKED THEIR BEHAVIOR. Thats how a child learns how to act around others, copying those around them. And since he can’t feel emotion, what he’s really doing is creating an elaborate mask, that almost replicates what he would have been able to feel if he still had his heart, just it lacked any real feelings behind.
So why is this so important?
Scara, canonically, believed everyone at the forge was good, upright, strong, and or gentle.
But the forge is when he was met with (according to the cutscene) his second betrayal. And I would like to argue its the only of the three that can be accurately classified as a betrayal. Something happens -> Scara tries to help -> His “family” (More specifically, Nagamasa)  locks him up for that. It was Nagamasa who called him an “Abomination” (assumed, since it is he who calls scara “neither man nor mechanism”). Of course, Scara is broken out by Katsuragi —> some things happen here that arent relevant to my point —> he comes back, only to find Katsuragi dead. But Scara wasn’t there to see Nagamasa kill him. He didn’t witness the actual reason, probably, he was told by someone, that Nagamasa killed Katsuragi because he believed he betrayed him.
And that is WHERE Scara “learns” that betrayal is linked with death (something we find he uses to describe what happened with his child) and with not wanting someone around anymore (why he subsequently labels Ei abandoning him as a betrayal).
What’s more, is if we look at the aftermath of the Katsuragikiri-Nagamasa incident, it directly parallels with the death of Scara’s child
Nagamasa kills Katsuragi —> He throws the Daitatara Nagamasa, the weapon used, into the fires of the furnace
Something (probably Illness? Or Fatui if we want a conspiracy) kills the child —> Scara burns down the house with the body in it
Might that be a stretch? Probably. But to me it shows just how much influence these people had on Scara, specifically Nagamasa. While he saw Katsuragi as a friend, he likely saw Nagamasa as an authority figure. And we all know authorities are such g r e a t role models. (Also, im 99.99% sure that the Raiden Gokaden incident was also inspired by this, except I no longer know where to put it in my timeline of events so we will wait and see)
But the true extent of it is only shown once Scara gets his delusion.
His delusion, gave him access to emotions! Something he wanted!
But only the negative ones. Thus, suddenly he can accurately mimic the worst traits from everyone he met, and unfortunately, that includes Nagamasa.
Proud, Upright, Stubborn, Obsessed Nagamasa, gives these traits to Scara, who takes them, and because that is all that he can replicate, takes these traits, along with misguided beliefs that he made along his journey, and multiplies them tenfold.
THAT is when he starts to enjoy being superior to others
THAT is when he becomes the most despised Harbinger
and THAT is when, such as how Nagamasa wished to remove himself from Chiyo’s misdoings and tried to prove that his family is still honorable despite what the Shogun might believe, Scara wishes to remove himself from the emotions that made Ei discard him in the first place and prove to her that he IS worthy of being a God
THAT is when he decides that he hates Ei
I forget what i wanted to put as my conclusion oh actually never mind i remember. I dont hold Nagamasa accountable as its not really something he had control of (except for killing Katsuragi. That one is on you buddy) i just think its neat and i might be totally wrong but who knows. Im not a psychologist lol.

For Kabukimono i headcanon him to be kinda quiet and awkward in the beginning like since he doesnt really know how to communicate properly he just stares blankly 0_0 until he figures out how to say what he wants to say
He also is just very blunt but everyone loves him regardless
Nagamasa I think its canonical that he doesnt really trust the Kabukimono, like I dont think he ever actively hated him, but was more reserved, and probably didnt want to talk about important matters around him
Katsuragi is like that one guy who everyone is friends with, he’s busy a lot of the time but he always has time to do things with other people. I like to think he’s the one who taught Kabukimono how to communicate
Niwa definitely more family than everyone else. He just kinda took Kabukimono under his wing and is the reason why they were all pretty accepting of him. I like to think he taught Kabukimono a lot of his life skills and everything.
OH! I feel like I intuitively had some of these headcanons but you summarized them so well!! (I still like the headcanon that Kabukimono is blunt because it goes with what Wanderer said about always having that trait.)
I'm glad I asked for headcanons from everyone. I have a lot to mull over now and I'm not complaining. :D

Scaramouche deserved better
This is kind of a hot take on chapter III of the archon quest.
I love theorizing and picking things apart, so please don't come for me bhfwlahwlxnfl.
It might be useful to have some knowledge about what has happened so far. (This post is very long, also SPOILERS)
Remember, this is an opinion, not a fact or an offence against anybody. This has nothing to do with the cn drama. This is just me nitpicking at the story lol
The erasure of Scaramouche’s past was unnecessary.
In hindsight, it is a repetitive plot line, already established with the “death” of Greater Lord Rukkhadevata. She ceased because she eliminated the forbidden knowledge and therefore stopped the withering in Irminsul. In context, her disappearance made sense. With Scaramouche, however, it doesn’t: All the carefully thought through occurrences, all the relationships and connections between characters are annihilated in the process of changing Scaramouche’s past. Did it matter that Ei left her almost literal son alone? No, because she doesn’t remember. Did it matter that Niwa and Mikoshi Nagamasa accepted and perhaps loved the Kabukimono? No, because they are long dead and they have forgotten that he even existed. Did it matter that he found out the truth about Dottore’s murder? No, because Niwa died in the furnace instead, or so everyone believes. Why let everyone forget he killed hundreds of swordsmiths only to retell the truth? It would have made more sense if it wasn’t even erased in the first place. The only thing remaining for the Wanderer is the agony that nobody remembers except for a chosen few and himself. If anything, he only brought suffering upon himself. In the end, a very huge part of character development is lost this way.
By erasing himself, Scaramouche didn’t achieve anything.
If he hadn’t forgotten himself, there would be no rescue arc for him. He hadn’t changed his mind about the Traveler at that point in the story. In Act III, Inversion of Genesis, The Night-Bird Falls at the Curtain's Call, Scaramouche specifically states:
“...Or maybe killing me is all you can think about? But if that's the case, why haven't you done it already? [...] Sometimes it's you using them, other times it's them using you. Most human relationships are this way... certainly all the stable ones are. That's how it was between me and the Fatui, and also between each of the Harbingers. So as long as you have some value to offer, nobody will ever abandon you. But after recent events, even I have to admit that I'm not worth quite what I used to be…”
What I take from this are three things: Scaramouche acknowledges the Traveler as a threat. He uses Nahida’s deal as a backup for his own safety because providing utility to others is what he defines as a stable relationship. He also accepts his position as inferior - for the time being. This is the start of the turning point.
The Wanderer later says in Act III, Inversion of Genesis, As Though Morning Dew:
“Even if I'm completely worthless, there's nothing in the world worth regretting. [...] Utility to others is what gives me worth. So if embracing my sins is what it takes to make me useful again, so be it. [...] Sorry if I have a slightly different perspective on things. [...] Well, whatever your reasons, you did me a favor, and I'll do everything I can to pay it back. [...] Borrowing and returning are the only real relationships between individuals. I'll balance the books one day, don't you worry.”
He didn’t change his view of relationships, as much is clear. This logically drives him to “repay the favor” the Traveler did for him. Fueled by his unchanging way of understanding a true and kind-hearted relationship, it sounds like the Wanderer just atones for his sins because someone (in this case Nahida; she concludes: “In all honesty, your past experiences have made you a useful asset to Sumeru and to me. Winning you over was indeed a part of my plan.”) wants him to. This again makes him a puppet to his circumstance, instead of empowering him to make the right choice on his own. His whole life, it was the circumstance that created the scornful being he became in the end (this is a reference to the three betrayals and his relationship with the Fatui). His will to be “of use” actually hindered him in finding a path that is not influenced by others. Him realizing this would be a satisfying and meaningful way to change the tides of the storyline and would carry an important message.
The existence of the Wanderer doesn’t make sense.
It is unclear how much control Scaramouche had over the creation of the Wanderer and if he was involved in the changes that were made around Teyvat. Irminsul has its limits on what it can and cannot change. Then again, I feel like the fact that he forgot himself was merely a catalyst for the current events, speeding up the pace for him to switch sides. Did the Wanderer just wake up the morning Paimon forgot about Scaramouche? How did he exit Irminsul if he forgot everything? Where do his clothes come from? Why was he in the wilderness when he woke up? We don’t know what life the Wanderer believed to have lived before regaining his memories, which is a major plot hole that could be filled in the future. But arguably the most jarring thing about the Wanderer is his personality.
What purpose does the character serve story-wise? For sure, it’s displaying a contrast between the two entities, the yin to the yang one could say. Maybe it’s meant as a “what could have been” or as an example for gratitude and affability, traits which Scaramouche never possessed. How can it be that someone so cruel and relentless carries something so pure at heart inside of him? If it hadn’t been for all the betrayals maybe this is what we would have gotten instead. It shows how the world changed Scaramouche when he felt powerless in the face of hardship. Which is why he defined his worth as the acknowledgement and utility to others - because he couldn’t find it within himself. Because he felt inferior to everything and everyone from his birth to his procession of achieving Godhood. And in the end, he lost everything but his body.
This consequently motivates the Wanderer to seek the truth about his past. Through him we get insight on both Scaramouche’s and Wanderer’s thoughts:
“I don't think I can judge everything I've heard purely in terms of right and wrong. Each choice a person makes belongs to a specific place and time, a chain of cause and effect... a cycle of karma and consequence. [...] I'm just a puppet, with no heart and no name. There is nothing in this world for me to cling to, to fill the void within me... except maybe these sins that can never be undone. [...] I've always believed that human lives follow a set of rules, with each person being a collection of past experiences. As a puppet living in the human world, my life is subject to the same rules. [...]  I've lived with a void in my chest my whole life. My creator didn't need me, and ever since I awoke, I've just drifted from one place to the next. [...] I've always felt I have an innate tendency to yearn for something more, in a way that goes deeper than for most people... But for all my soul-searching as a shugenja, I've never fully understood it. Looking at it now, it seems that I brought this curse upon myself.”
This is the first and only time the Wanderer admits this to himself; that he was searching for something that ultimately led him to his demise. After regaining his memories, he reverts to his old self, as explained above. Even if it is a very clever way to make the character consistent throughout the story, I wished we would have seen some character development, especially of Scaramouche since he’s the one filling The Wanderers consciousness.
I thought about how it would be to remember two lifetimes in one body: Even if someone told you what you did in another life, would that change who you are now? Then what if you had memories of that other life inside you, would that erase the you that is currently existing? This is why I don’t agree with Nahida’s statement:
“If you accept that he is you, just as you are you, then yes - you are evil.”
It feeds into the fact that The Wanderer’s personality later resembles the one of Scaramouche. The Wanderer accepts that he is “evil” and has to “face the music”. Again, he takes responsibility for Scaramouche’s past because his will to be of utility to others presses him to do it. Clearly, in this moment he had the chance to turn his back on his past and instead live on as the more kind and benevolent version of himself. I would have liked to spend more time with the soft Wanderer, the one that was born with a pure “heart”, the one who learned to love instead of hate. It would have left a bitter-sweet feeling because he would be content like this, never truly understanding why he inflicted these cruel things on others.
Let's look at this from yet another perspective: What if Scaramouche wanted to forget about the deaths, the betrayals at the cost of losing the memory of his friends too? Wouldn’t that have been a far greater punishment? To know that you willingly wipe out every single last teardrop and every single spark of joy? On the other hand, I understand why other people would despise this ending because Scaramouche would never really have to feel any lasting consequence for what he did. He would just be “neutralized”.
The alternation of Irminsul’s records has differing effects.
The Doctor still did the experiments, so the results must be in his possession. Despite not knowing who he experimented with, The Doctor would still have knowledge of how to create a God. This can be concluded because Paimon accidentally broke a vase when she was worried about Scaramouche. After “changing” the past, the vase is still broken. This indicates that the general memory of everyone changed, however the world remained the same. All objects are still the way they were before the change occurred. This is an interesting concept of changing the past, but it doesn’t add up with what happens in the plot. After Scaramouche’s meddling with Irminsul’s records, the Traveler meets Aqaba and Sawada, whose research was altered in favor of erasing Scaramouche. However, this shouldn’t be possible according to what we learn at the end of the story when the mysterious voice talks to the Traveler.
“History does not change easily, but human hearts can. Believe your own eyes. Only that which you see is true. What is unseen is but an illusion.”
Irminsul can change what people believe, meaning knowledge and wisdom, not real objects, occurrences and consequences  - is what I suspect. Regardless, the voice also says:
“Unfortunately, the fate of Teyvat cannot easily be changed. Perhaps a god may have a slim chance, but for anyone else... who can say. When a small animal runs into a tree trunk, though the tree may sway, it is not displaced. The same is true of fate. Like a vase that falls to the ground. Whether it is broken by a cat or by a bird, the result is still a broken vase, is it not?”
The statement is true to what happened when Scaramouche tried to rescue his friends so that they would survive Il Dottore’s attack. They died either way, despite the Kabukimono “not being there”.
The Doctor’s power remains unclear.
He himself admits while negotiating with Nahida:
“A long time ago, I made a major decision in hopes of preserving all my perspectives of how I observed the world. Observation is the first step of any experiment, but observing the current world doesn't satisfy me. It lacks an important dimension — that of time. So I saved "segments" of all my ages, and made them into independent individuals… [...] What you request of me is like plucking out the eyes I have placed in the dimension of time. [...] Besides, with my abilities, it's only a matter of time until I find better "perspectives." Perhaps it's best to say... you're just temporarily ahead.”
The Travel Log specifies:
“As Nahida closes her eyes, many voices enter her consciousness: Some are young, some are old, some are angry, and some are helpless... All of them are the voices of The Doctor's segments, each derived from him at a different age.”
From what I understand, the Doctor has created segments, that each are positioned in a specific point in time to keep an eye on certain events, and with whom he can communicate. Since the Doctor is able to see through time, it would be possible for him to relive the past without the interference of Irminsul, as it merely changes the memories of the people. For the Doctor it would be possible to recount the truth because he would see it with his own eyes. This is what makes his segments all the more dangerous to the fate of Teyvat. However, the Doctor clarifies that he can find other ways to watch time, and the annihilation of his segments just set him back temporarily. With that said, he’s one of a few people who are unaffected by alternation of Irminsul, just like the Descenders. The question is if he can control these segments to even change how some occurrences took place - which would give him the power to literally change the past. With this in mind, there is a possibility that Scaramouche could be able to save his friends. It would give him a reason to pursue the Doctor and to work together with the Traveler. It would be an interesting concept for them to acquire the Doctor’s power to go back in time and to see the real consequence. But for the Doctor to be able to “alter” fate, he must become a God himself. At least, this is what the mysterious voice tells the Traveler. Another possibility is for the Wanderer and the Traveler to encounter the God of Time or an equally powerful entity. However, this is just speculation.

No Puppet Strings Attached 5
Summary: When Katsuragi brings a puppet back to Tatarasuna, saying that he found him wandering the shores, the village and blade smiths took him in as their own. Something about the puppet struck a young girl's heart. Despite him not having a heart of his own, the puppet felt something that would seem to be impossible for someone like him to feel.

“What brings you here?” Niwa asks.
“Do mind my sudden intrusion. My name is Escher, a mechanic from Fontaine.” The man reaches his hand out for a handshake, to which Niwa shakes.
“Welcome, Escher. However, my question still stands, what brings you here? We don’t get many visitors from neighboring islands, let alone countries across the ocean.”
Escher laughs, “I’ve heard quite a lot about Tatarasuna. Your weapon craftsmanship is well known all over Teyvat, I just had to see it for myself.”
“Is that so? Well, we hope that we’ve reached your expectations.”
“Nonsense. It is amazing. I’ve actually been in cahoots with the akame clan for some time. I was told about the raid on your village and how tough it is to get back on your feet.”
“I wasn’t aware that news spread that far, but yes. We’ve been having some trouble getting back into our normal rhythm.”
Escher puts a hand on Niwa’s shoulder, “That is exactly why I’m here. I’ve created a way for all of your blade smiths to get back on track, and to revolutionize the smelting process all together.”
Niwa looked intrigued by what the man said. For decades, the way that weapons and such were made was by the same techniques that had been passed on for generations. To revolutionize the process would be taking a big risk, especially right now.
“And how would we go about doing all of that?” Niwa asks the man.
“Let’s discuss this further in the village, I want the opinions of multiple people before we continue with our plans.”
. ⋅ ˚̣- : ✧ : – ⭒ ⊹ ⭒ – : ✧ : -˚̣⋅ .
Escher met with Mikoshi Nagamasa, along with many of the other important people in the village. All sitting in a room together, discussing Escher’s plan of incorporating the raw crystal marrow into the smelting process.
Crystal marrow grew in abundance throughout the narrow corners of Tatarasuna. The villagers paid no mind to it and simply left it alone, mainly because they had other ore that they worked with, and were more comfortable working with.
Escher made points that the crystal marrow could be beneficial towards the smelting process, and it would be made easier with the contraption he had brought with him that he worked together with the Akame clan.
Once people had learned that Escher was an acquaintance with one of the fellow Isshin art clans, they warmed up to him. Another fellow clan which was a part of the Isshin arts was a sort of distant family. It wasn’t long after until Escher brought out the blueprints and plans of how the future of smelting would proceed.
By using crystal marrow, the weapons crafted from it would be more tough and resilient.
. ⋅ ˚̣- : ✧ : – ⭒ ⊹ ⭒ – : ✧ : -˚̣⋅ .
The first weapon to be crafted using crystal marrow was a sword. One of the blade smiths, Botan, kept it as a treasure. When he first used it to demonstrate the strength of the blade, it was able to cut through multiple stalks of bamboo rather easily, which was not an easy thing to do.
After being able to witness the toughness of the blade itself, the process of incorporating crystal marrow into weaponry became a normal practice. The resilience of the blades, along with how much easier it was to make them, allowed for more sales and profit when they were sold.
The village slowly became busy again.
Y/n heard about the new additions for the weapons, and decided to go check them out herself. She wasn’t permitted to go into the furnace or smithy where they were being smelted, which she found bothersome because she was able to do it before.
She instead decided to seek out her brother to see why she couldn’t go into the smithy anymore. Niwa was in a conference room, so she knew exactly where to go.
Knocking on the door for just a second, she opened the door. It was only Niwa and Escher, both sitting down with some tea. Niwa looked surprised when he saw his sister at the door.
“Y/n! You can’t just walk into rooms like that.” Niwa says, trying to shoo her away.
“I have some questions for you, brother. Why won't they let me into the smithy?”
“It’s too dangerous, we’re working with new materials, and you can get hurt in there. Now please leave, me and Escher are discussing something.”
“Haha, nonsense. It’s not everyday you’re greeted with such a beautiful young woman. She’s welcome to stay if she’d like.” Escher extends his hand towards the seat across from him.
“See, I’m wanted.” She took the seat next to Niwa. Escher and him continued to talk like normal, but nothing in particular.
“You truly are an amazing blade smith, Niwa. I wonder if this talent runs in the family.” Escher gestured towards y/n who looked surprised that he would even ask.
“Me?” she asks.
Escher smiles, nodding his head.
“No way. The only thing she’s good at is annoying people and prying in places she doesn’t belong in.” Niwa stares intensely at her, almost like a scorn.
“Fine, if whatever you want to talk about is that serious, then I’ll just leave you alone.” With a huff, y/n leaves the room.
She runs into Kabukimono on the way. He notices that she looks upset.
“What's wrong, my love?” he asks.
Once she notices him, her expression softens. It's as if his presence alone was enough to distract her from anything.
“Nothing much, just Niwa not wanting to talk to me.”
“I’m sure that's not true. He’s just busy trying to get everyone back on their feet.”
“Sure, but I hoped that he’d still make time for his sister,” She pouts at the boy, “you make time for me. Although, I feel like you have more fun creating a sword than a flower crown. Don’t you?”
“I have to admit that flower crowns aren’t my strong suit, but the ones you create truly are of high quality.”
“I forgot to ask. How’s the crystal marrow doing? Is it showing promising results? Niwa said that they’re selling better, but that was a while ago.”
Both of them began to walk together, wanting to get to a place where they could sit and talk. The boy had begun to take more frequent breaks to spend time with y/n. Ever since the village invasion, he had felt guilty that he wasn’t strong enough to stay out and protect her.
She protested against his statements, saying that he didn’t have to be strong, he just had to be with her and that would be enough. Despite her reassuring words, he still felt as though he wanted to grow in order to keep her safe. Whenever he sees the other village men doting on their wives, protecting their families from any danger, he wants that too.
“The village has been receiving more funds to keep the crystal marrow smelting going. I’d say the profits are much better than they were in the past few years.” he sits down on a flat rock, y/n sitting next to him.
His eyes looked dimmed, as if he were deep in thought. She took notice of this.
“What's on your mind?” she asks.
The boy sighs, “same thing as always.”
“Kabuki…you know that I love you the way you are, right? I wouldn’t want it any other way.”
“I'm aware, but I feel as though since I’m not a real human, I cannot give you the life you need.”
She places her hand alongside the side of his face, “and what is it exactly that I need?”
“A normal life. I may outlive you one day, and I don’t know how I will be able to live with that. I cannot give you children either…”
“Dearest…is that what’s been going through your mind all this time?”
The boy doesn’t respond, but looks at her with sad eyes. He looks pained.
“Those things may be true, but they are not necessities. You may outlive me one day, but I’m sure that things will work in our favor. Maybe we will be rejoined in another way.”
“You think so?”
“I know so. And look, we’re together right now, I’m not going anywhere.”
. ⋅ ˚̣- : ✧ : – ⭒ ⊹ ⭒ – : ✧ : -˚̣⋅ .
It had been almost 7 months since the beginning of the crystal marrow smelting process. The village had never been this busy nor prosperous before. Small gatherings were held every month to celebrate the growth and recovery of the village.
During one of these gatherings, both the boy and y/n were alone in the area surrounded by bloom blossoms. Wanting some alone time from the festivities, they secluded themselves to the very area that they first fell in love.
The boy gently places a blossom behind her ear, tracing her jawline with his finger tenderly.
“What’s this for?” she asks, toying with this blossom.
“I’ve always wanted to do that. You look beautiful, the blossom only enhances the beauty you already possess.”
“Oh, you!” she becomes flustered and turns away, but not for too long. The boy gently turns her head back to him. He places a kiss against the side of her mouth.
After a share of a few more intimate kisses, the two decided to walk back to the celebration area. Instead of being welcomed by joyous laughter, people were in panic.
Both of them rushed towards the crowded area where people were huddled together. At the center was a man, he was one of the blade smiths. He was huddled in his wife's arms, convulsing. There was a rash spread across his body.
“What happened?” the boy asks.
“We don’t know. One minute he was fine, but then he started scratching his arms and then fell to the floor and began to shake violently.” One of the villagers replied.
“Someone take him to the village healer!” Two other men came and escorted the blade smith and his wife to the healer who had been in his home.
The latest event had soiled the mood of the celebration, causing an end to the festivities.
The boy had gone with Katsuragi and Miyo. Before he left, he bid y/n goodbye with a kiss on the head. She stood there silently for a few minutes, soaking up what just happened. She had never seen someone act like that before.
Her thoughts were interrupted when she heard a voice approaching from behind her.
“Horrid isn’t it?”
It was Escher.
“Ah…yes it is. I’ve never seen anything like this before.” she clasped her hands together, feeling a chill run against her skin.
“There will be many things in this world that you will see, little dove.”
The nickname caught her off guard, but she didn’t question it.
“I doubt it, not much happens in Tatarasuna.”
“I’m not talking about just Tatarasuna. You’re not planning on venturing out from this island?”
“I’ve lived here my whole life… I can’t imagine being anywhere else.”
Escher looked at her for a few seconds before smiling.
“If that is what you wish, little dove.” He walks away from her, leaving her slightly confused at why he came up to her to talk about venturing out of Tatarasuna, of all things.
She ignored it once more and returned home.
. ⋅ ˚̣- : ✧ : – ⭒ ⊹ ⭒ – : ✧ : -˚̣⋅ .
The blade smith's condition worsened through the coming weeks. He had started speaking about an unknown god that was coming for revenge. The village healer could not do much to ease his pain, other than giving him herbal treatments to make him lose consciousness.
It wasn’t until he slipped into pure insanity that he withered away into nothing. He died in his sleep, leaving his wife and family in pure despair.
Talks of him going insane spread through the village. Y/n was for some reason very scared by this, and she did not know why. Her worries became even more apparent when a few more people started to become sick as well, showing the same symptoms as the blade smith before he had died.
There was a reasonable pattern amongst them, all of them were blade smiths, and the few outliers were people who had close contact with the blade smiths.
No one seemed to catch onto this pattern, however, they were too concerned on how to treat these people before they succumbed to the same fate.
Niwa however had noticed the pattern of which people were affected. All of them were blade smiths, all of them worked in the same area, the Mikage Furnace.
Nothing like this had happened before, in the decades in which Tatarasuna had been crafting blades. It wasn’t until the involvement of crystal marrow.
He couldn’t act on these theories just yet, if he just flat out accuses Escher. And even if it were true, what motive would Escher have of poisoning the villagers, especially if he was in cahoots with the Akame clan.
He brushed off his suspicions for now, only wanting to protect his sister.
After the unknown disease began to spread, the villagers began to panic, worried if they were next. Niwa knew that there would be discord amongst the villagers if this continued, so he made a deal with the village healer and others to implement an information blackout. No news about the disease would go to the public until ways on how to cure it were discovered. Until then, people will just have to stay at home.
Unfortunately, staying at home wasn’t enough, people had begun to drop left and right. It was scary seeing a loved one perish so suddenly.
Kabukimono decided it was enough seeing the people he loved die. He wanted to go to Narukami Island and seek an audience with the Raiden Shogun for assistance. He wanted to set off immediately.
“How long will you be gone?” y/n asks, the waves on the beach washing against her bare feet.
“I don’t know, but I will return as soon as I can. I promise.”
Both of their hands intertwine, clenching tightly. Neither one of them wanted to let go. It would take a day or two to get to Narukami Island, but the oceans are unpredictable.
“Be safe, please?” She says.
“I will, you stay safe too. When I come back with the Raiden Shogun, everything will be okay.”
A sweet kiss on the lips was exchanged. She wrapped her arms around the back of his neck, bringing him in closer. A small moment of passion for the days that they would miss each other. She hands the boy a bloom blossom before he leaves.
“Be here when I return.” the boy says, looking at her one last time.
“I will, I’ll wait for you. Goodbye!”
The boy gets on the sailboat, both of them waving to each other until neither of them could see each other anymore.
Y/n’s heart stung at the sight of him leaving. She felt as if a Piece of her went with him, and she prayed oh so diligently that he would return safely.
. ⋅ ˚̣- : ✧ : – ⭒ ⊹ ⭒ – : ✧ : -˚̣⋅ .
Over the next few days, Niwa worked together with Escher to create a device that would clear the filth that had contaminated the Mikage furnace. They came to the conclusion that the crystal marrow had indeed been contaminating the residents of the village with something known as the “Tataragami”.
Crystal marrow was the remains of the god Orobashi that had been slain by the Raiden Shogun so long ago. It was the reason that the villagers had become so sick, but using the device that Escher created, the illnesses would deplete.
Niwa had told y/n about his plan on going to the Mikage Furnace and clearing the filth. She had her reservations about Niwa going in alone. The boy hadn’t returned with the Shogun's help yet, and she was worried sick. She couldn’t bear it if something had happened to Niwa too.
He reassured her that he would be fine. After the filth was cleared, the smiths would go back to their normal way of forging weapons, and things would remain that way.
She hugged her brother before he left, feeling an immense amount of dread upon her, as if something bad were to happen any moment. Niwa reassured her that everything would be fine, and left to meet with Escher and obtain the device.
Before Niwa could venture to the furnace, he confronted Escher about the usage of Crystal Marrow. In truth, Niwa had caught onto Eschers treacherous ways not too long ago. He knew that Escher was aware of how dangerous it was to use crystal marrow.
“I just want to know what you’re still doing here,“ Niwa says, walking away from Escher, “What's left? Don’t you have all your answers by now?”
Escher follows closely behind, a look of fake dread on his face. He puts his hand to his forehead, as if to console it.
“Honestly, I’m just waiting for the right moment.”
A moment of silence fell on the room. Something wasn’t right, it was too quiet. Niwa’s heart began to pound, but before he could act, he felt a shooting pain in his abdomen.
His eyes opened wide, a grunt escaped from his lips as he fell to the floor. His hand shot to where the pain was, and when he looked down, everything was being soaked in blood.
“Heh… you’re a little smarter than what I initially gave you credit for.” Escher’s face was painted with an evil grin.
Niwa could do nothing but stare and huff, trying not to think of the pain and blood.
“Did you really think you would be able to see through my plan?” Escher's voice had completely changed. From once a gentleman to now what sounded like a haughty wicked man.
“Ugh… if you kill me…there’s no one that can go inside the furnace. So is that's it…you’re really going to destroy the place?” Niwa groans out, wincing every time he speaks.
“Oh, but you’re quite wrong-there is one other person. Hmm. Some may not see him as a person, but you told him yourself, ‘you’re not a puppet, you’re a human, you’re just missing a heart.’ “
Niwa’s heart shook. The Kabukimono…the boy who he had treated like family. The love of his sister's life…he couldn’t possibly.
After a few more exchanges of words, Escher had revealed himself to be involved with the Fatui, and was tasked with creating a minor inconvenience for Inazuma.
Before Niwa could retort, the door was slammed open and someone came running inside.
“Niwa…? Niwa!” y/n rushed towards her brother, placing her hand on his bleeding abdomen.
“Y/n…you shouldn’t be here…” Niwa croaks.
“Nono, let her. The entire family is present, the more she knows the better.” Escher grins.
“You…you monster. What did you do to him?” Y/n glares daggers towards the man.
“Come now, y/n, we were just discussing how your boyfriend is the perfect person to go into the Mikage Furnace to cleanse it of its filth.” Escher continues to smile at the pair of siblings beneath him.
“Kabukimono…he’s not even here. If you’re so sure your contraption will work, then why don't you go into the furnace and leave us alone!”
“It’s simple really. He’s a puppet, meaning that he’s meant to be used. If not by you…by someone else.”
Tears cornered Y/n's eyes, this man was crueler than he put out to be.
“Don’t talk about him like that…he’s not just a puppet! He’s one of us, we all love him. I love him!” Y/n exclaims, her grip on her brother tightening.
“If you truly think that…then allow your brother to give into his hatred. I want to see what happens when a malevolent heart is placed into an unsuspecting puppet.”
Both Niwa and Y/n were shocked, he was planning on carving out Niwa’s heart?”
“Times ticking y/n, you have to choose. Your brother, your flesh, and blood, or your puppet boyfriend.”
“You…” y/n whimpers and lowers her head.
“If you give him my heart…tell him that both nagamasa and I…think of him as one of us…” Niwa’s final breaths were being used up, and y/n could feel him slipping away.
“Brother please…” Y/n begs.
“Not all of us…want to use him,” Niwa turns towards his crying sister, “Go y/n…it’s not safe here…get away from Tatarasuna…get away from Inazuma…”
Niwa’s body slowly relaxes as it slides onto the floor completely. Y/n begins to sob even louder as her own body covers her dead brothers. Her body shaking as she can't stop the tears from coming out, her cries audible.
“Mr. Niwa…tsk. Already dead, what a pity.” Escher groans out, and in a swift motion his appearance changes.
No longer dressed like a fontain native, he sports an entirely different outfit and hair that looks foreign.
“Jester, I completed the task you gave me. Creating a gap and infiltrating Inazuma’s inner workings… Heh, what fun it was.”
He stares down at the girl, “I’d like to introduce a puppet to you. If he proves useful, let’s make him our newest comrade. If not…let's turn him to dust.”
He watches for a few more seconds until he kneels down towards the girl. His gloved hand placed on the top of her head, stroking it for a few seconds before yanking her back by her hair.
“You will be troublesome if I decide to let you go…which is exactly why I won't.”
Her eyes begin to shake. Will she meet the same fate as her brother?
“Don’t look at me like that, I can’t kill the entire family in one sitting. Oh no, no, you’ll be coming with me. The most closed mouths are the ones you can keep an eye on.”
Y/n whimpers as he lets go of her hair and cups her cheeks.
“I’m sure you’ll prove useful to me, useful for many things.”
. ⋅ ˚̣- : ✧ : – ⭒ ⊹ ⭒ – : ✧ : -˚̣⋅ .
The man who was once Escher, now going by Dottore, knocked y/n out completely before he went back outside. He announced that both Niwa and his sister had abandoned the people of Tatarasuna, to fend for themselves.
It wasn’t long until Kabukimono came back to the island empty-handed. He had learned of the disappearance of Y/n and Niwa. Both of them had left him…
Y/n said that she would wait for him, but why?
Dottore poured into the poor boy's head that Y/n never truly loved him, which is why it was so easy for her to leave along with her brother. After all, who could truly love a puppet that has no heart of his own?
And to tie everything together, after Kabukimono cleared the furnace of its filth, the boy opened the box to find a heart inside of it. Dottore stated that it was the heart of a subordinate that Niwa had carved out.
The boy was enraged, it was the first time he felt this emotion. He had been betrayed…not only by someone who he considered to be a close friend…but by the woman he loved.
This was his second betrayal.

My OCs from different fandoms!
thank u @kindan-no-kanojo for the tag i'm about to be INSUFFERABLE for one full post <3
i wasn't the type to make ocs until last year so it's like 20% actual old ocs and 80% unintroduced dl charas :D it's my personal acc anyway someone HAS to see them before i go insane (they have lore drops tho so just look at the pretty pictures if u don't wanna know (?))
(also using the dividers on the oc blog i'm too lazy to find a cute one >:D)
Tumblr media
Diabolik Lovers OC/s (introduced)
Komori Kayo x2 (human and fiend)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
we have the babygrills of the blog, kayo and edgy kayo. jk but for ocs i only made like? january of this year i have spent WAY too much time thinking about and drawing them. hunter came first and the loser meowmeow drenched in milk pathetic loser one came after actually :p
i can go on and on about how i designed her appearance in specific but that's for another day :D just know that her blue/yellow color palette is literally a forget-me-not, and hunter's red/yellow color palette is a forget-me-not drenched in blood :D
hunter kayo's "species" is actually called a fiend (a term i just stole from csm LMAO) which is a very rare set of humans that are able to successfully be transplanted with a demonic organ. yes, yui is technically a fiend too in this case.
Lilith
Tumblr media
mother <3
in terms of power levels, she's karlheinz on steroids (bc their powers have the same origin but u didn't hear that from me) but she's on another level of psychopathic. was she a demon before she was banished, or did god make her a demon? who knows.
kayo, seiji, and yui's relationship closely mirrors lilith, god, and eve's relationship.
Cecilia Lune
Tumblr media
like spring, gone too soon. all that's left are the ashes she left behind.
Tumblr media
Jumpscare warning: G*nshin Imp*ct OCs
i censored it bc i can't believe my first ocs were for THIS GAME...
i have a love-hate relationship with the game don't mind <3 i still think back to these three fondly and i'll talk about their lore for a bit cause this is probably the only time they'll see the light of day.
the two sisters are inazuman-mondstadter(?) in blood, but in nationality they're both inazuman, and their visions have inazuman casing. however, maya lives in fontaine and miya lives in sumeru.
Mikoshi Maya (Wandering Princess)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
players complaining about too many sweet girls? here's another one!
from the last name, maya is a descendant of mikoshi nagamasa, the human son of the oni chiyo that served the raiden shogun. that part of her backstory doesn't matter to her as much as it matters to her older sister.
maya's a spoiled and lazy child of one of richest businesswomen of fontaine, and she's also a huge hermit. but she has the power to dream of the future, and it always involves someone needing help. even though she's spoiled, she's very kind in nature, so even as a hermit she often travels to help those she finds in her dreams. she's a dancer and has a very pretty appearance so 'wandering princess' is the title she got from traveling the other nations.
ironically, her nickname in fontaine is actually the rumored hermit, from her tendencies to almost never show up. people see her so little some are convinced that she doesn't actually exist.
her future dreams come into play in an interlude quest.
Mikoshi Miya (Transient Swordsman)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
mommy. her name's miya bc i wanted it to match with maya
on the surface, she's a kshahrewar graduate who specializes in mechanics, and she specifically works on machines that can bridge the gap between vision holders and non-vision holders. she's pretty relaxed and sisterly, but at first she seems almost drawn in on herself.
in her past, she was trained as a swordsman by her father, a mikoshi himself. she was considered the greatest prodigy for her time, and she was 'destined for great things'. this was for a specific job that would need way too long to explain but related to this job is the fact that they're a bit of a problem for the fatui. this, and her mother's relationship to the fatui, culminated in someone attempting to subdue her mother with a very special fire made from delusions. however, they mistimed the mission, and instead caught a young miya and her father in the crossfire, which lead to her father's death and miya's hatred for the fatui and for visions.
no matter how much people told her that she was a once in a lifetime swordsman, and how her skill was almost completely unmatched, miya gave up swordsmanship. her skill never saved her father.
miya is intelligent, and always liked making gadgets (her first creation was a mechanical train set at the age of seven), so she instead focused her efforts on helping non-vision holders, including herself, by studying at the akademiya.
miya only gets her electro vision in her story quest, where she confronts her father's killer. she also decides to take up a sword again because of the quest :D
Irina (Witch of Thorns)
Tumblr media
mother. that's my name yes but it kind of fits her. i go by yna anyway so i don't really see myself in her JFKJFSD if miya's past seems like a lot this woman has a whole document just about her lore......
to summarize, she's actually gold/rhinedottir's "accidental" creation, something too long to talk about but trust me on this. she's her first child in that regard, and rhine actually tried to raise her like a regular daughter.
they got separated in the cataclysm and irina ended up in mondstadt, which lead to her considering herself a mondstadter. fatui shenanigans happen with dottore and she changes her original appearance to become the witch of thorns, a witch specializing in an artificial flower with medicinal properties. she changes appearances every other decade and pretends she's the daughter of the last witch of thorns, all the way to the present.
miya and maya are her very real daughters though. maya resembles her true appearance more, while miya resembles how she was when she was younger.
(i also have two men who work under irina, yuuya and a runaway adeptus but their lore is like wayyy shorter than the three and these gi ocs are already taking up way too much of the post...)
Tumblr media
Diabolik Lovers OCs (unintroduced)
HUGE LORE DUMP AHEAD.................... bc i need to vomit it out
Lunar Clan
the descendants of lilith's eldest, nyx.
while all demons are descendants of lilith, there is one uninterrupted line of daughters that are genetically clones of lilith herself. while their appearances do have variation, they all one defining trait: pure white hair. in my lore, white hair is a trait impossible to have if you're a pure founder. the only founders to naturally have this hair color are these clones, who are called lilith's avatars. makes you wonder how carla has white hair, though not purely white. doesn't that make him special?
there can only be one avatar born from a previous one in every generation, and any other child ends up as a regular founder. back then, this line of daughters were the royal family of the founder clan, then known as the lunar kingdom when all kingdoms were comprised of founders rather than the subspecies that arose from evolution.
they were overthrown in an event known as the fall of lunacy, a coup d'état arranged by the final queen, scylla's adviser. despite being overthrown, their connection to lilith and scylla's own sacrifices continued to keep them in an important noble position. their estate is located the closest to lilith's tomb, lilith's resting place, a garden of forget-me-nots the size of a town.
another special trait of the avatars is the ability to control and summon butterfly familiars, all with a unique appearance. they can also take up the butterfly's form.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
all avatars are assigned epithets at one point in their lives. in their time as royal family, they were usually assigned their titles post-mortem, but afterwards their epithets tend to be assigned some time within their lives.
in order of appearance and birth.
Lilith ; Queen of the Night ; Lilith herself wasn't technically part of the Lunar Clan, as it only began upon the establishment of the Lunar Kingdom, long after her supposed death. Still, she was given the epithet due to her reign on Old Eden, characterized by her absolute control over all territories, like the all-encompassing embrace of night.
Queen Nyx ; Lunacy's Founder, the founder of the Lunar Kingdom and the first to take on the last name Lune. Lilith's eldest.
Queen Raikou ; The Silent Queen, the longest-reigning queen, second to only Lilith herself, ruling for 700 years compared to an average of 100 years. Her rule was characterized by its stability, though quickly overturned when the event known as the War of the Fallen occurred.
Queen Scylla ; The Children's Princess, the shortest-reigning queen, Raikou's daughter, and the final ruler of the Lunatic Dynasty. Becoming queen at a young age after her mother's death, she followed her adviser's ill-meaning advice due to the widespread famine in neighboring kingdoms, earning the peoples' ire and contributing to the successful coup d'état. That adviser's family became the reigning royal family up until Giesbach.
Zarya and Krone Lune ; The Dawn and the Dusk, a pair of identical twins. They are the first and only case of two avatars being born in one generation. Due to magic being the focus of the Demon World, Zarya's interest in medicine and biology was seen as a disgrace, especially compared to her twin sister, who excelled in magic and swordsmanship. Zarya was later exiled from the kingdom, though was reluctantly brought back upon the beginning of the spread of Endzeit. She managed to quell the disease's spread all the way until her disappearance, just before the War of Prophecy occurred, which trapped all Founders within the Pandemonium and allowed Endzeit to spread rampantly.
Cecilia Lune ; The Spring Bloom ; Zarya's daughter, the end to the line of avatars. Founders' eyes don't reflect light, and merely glow. Cecilia's eyes sparkled like stars. Hated, then loved by the people, who grieved her death for centuries.
She was known as the human among demons.
extra fact: the divider icon is the lunar clan's family emblem:3 it used to represent the lunar kingdom as a whole, but upon the fall of the dynasty it became associated with the former royal family instead.

anyway that's all this has gotten very long <3 thank you again for the tag ;w;

Hey everyone!
Here's all of Scaramouche's lore + explanations/analysis for anyone who wants to understand his story more. My comments/analysis are in purple and references are in blue! Everything in white is the Husk of Opulent Dreams Artifact Set. Edit: UPDATED AFTER 3.3 INTERLUDE QUEST
Tumblr media
This post is very long so everything is under Keep Reading! I hope you enjoy, this took multiple hours and going through and evaluating anything with relevant information to Scara and the people mentioned in his lore.
Tales of the Opulent Mansion, Awakening from a Dream, and the Soulless Body
Era of Splendor
A small golden ornament with six petals that shall never wilt. It symbolizes the transience of mortal glories.
What he saw in his dream was a phantom dancing to the music under the moonlight, Just like the young man in the distant past, who was akin to a blank sheet of paper, And like a pure yet fragile persona, Emerging once the resentment and suffering had dissipated.
The wanderer did not know that he had any faculties for dreaming, Thinking that this must have been the researchers' little trick, Or perhaps it was the infinitesimal resistance of that bygone heart.
"You once acquired the 'heart' that you always dreamed of," "But it was but a mere prop for lies and deception." "Now, you will finally obtain what belongs to you," "And this false construct of a body can at last aspire to power over this world."
"Yet, this is all but a fleeting dream of glory." "And it will all one day drift away amidst the sighs of a suffering earth..." Was it a "him" from the past who said this? Or "him" from the future? The vagrant cared not, for when he awakened, It was not he, but that ethereal future that dissipated.
This entire section can be seen as The Balladeer dreaming of either his past self telling him that his vengeance is worthless or his future self telling him this. The ending seems to allude that it was indeed his future self or, perhaps, his true self. This section also seems to be directly preluding to the 3.3 interlude chapter. The Balladeer learns of the lies created by Dottore during the Tatarasuna Incident. He gains a vision. His past was transient and he must live on.
Feather of the Opulent Mansion
A feather-shaped token that was brought forth from a secluded hall. The compassion of its creator led to it being left within that mansion along with a certain slumbering form.
The long-wandering eccentric no longer thinks about this, But when he closes his eyes, he can still see the moonlit nights over Tatarasuna and the burning furnace flames.
The kind young deputy said: "This gold ornament is a proof of identity granted by the Almighty Shogun," "But as you travel the world, please bear this in mind," "Never to reveal your identity to others."
Tumblr media
The deputy is the yoriki Katsuragi who would introduce Kabukimono to Nagamasa and Niwa (Niwa is the ancestor of Kaedehara Kazuha's great-grandfather, Kaedehara Yoshinori, formerly Niwa Yoshinori)
“The second was a human. My family... my friend. Consumed by fear, he saw me as an abomination”  (The "Divine" Will)
Tumblr media
The upright Inspector said: "This gold ornament may be a proof of identity granted by the Almighty Shogun," "But you are neither man nor mechanism," "And so I can only deal with you in this fashion. Do not hold this against me!"
Katsuragi* is the only person to specifically tell Scara to hide this identity, it is likely that Scara saw this as his friend being ashamed of him. It also explains the ‘misconduct’ that Nagamasa used as justification for killing Katsuragi: for hiding this truth, though the other members of their group believed that Katsuragi had only good intentions — We later learn that it was a joint effort from Katsuragi and Nagamasa to hide the death of Niwa
(*the quote may have been referring to Niwa instead, i can’t tell. but katsuragi is still relevant in the explanation because the quote is about the Tatarasuna incident members)
The Inspector is Mikoshi Nagamasa (Katsuragi’s daimyo: his boss, and murderer) - Kabukimono and Nagamasa were at odds around the time Katsuragi was killed. Their previous relationship was good-natured.
The wanderer who has left yesterday in the dust no longer thinks about it, But when he covers his ears, he can still hear the wild winds that roared that year.
This seems to allude to his anemo vision as a playable character.
A pair of expectant eyes said: "This gold ornament is a proof of identity granted by the Almighty Shogun," "It must surely be able to save the people."
This is the Nameless Child from Kabukimono’s backstory
Tumblr media
The intelligent, lovely shrine maiden said: "This gold ornament is a proof of identity granted by the Almighty Shogun," "And she will not abandon you." "As for me, I shall do my best to send for help immediately..."
This is Yae Miko
...But in the end, the golden arrow-feather were covered in dust, And all tales were incinerated in karmic flames till nothing remained.
Kabukimono literally burned the house that the child died in and figuratively burned away his longing for emotional bonds
Tumblr media
The Song of All Living Things
As far as Inazuma is concerned, this is some small object from overseas. The heart of this mechanism has been removed, and its hands no longer turn.
He was originally born to be a vessel for a "heart." But he shed tears in his dreams. His creator observed thus: He was too fragile, whether it be as a human or as a tool.
Yet his creator would not destroy him, and so allowed him to continue slumbering. In her latter works, she would also consign designs that might store such a heart to obsolescence. Not long after, that noblest and most prestigious "proof" in the world would come to have no home, And thus was sent to the great shrine at Mt. Yougou.
Tumblr media
His sleeping form was placed in Shakkei Pavillion along with the feather that he wears.
‘A feather-shaped token that was brought forth from a secluded hall. The compassion of its creator led to it being left within that mansion along with a certain slumbering form.’ (Feather of the Opulent Mansion Description)
Deep within these rocky mountains is a sight that does not belong to this world. Many of those drawn to it do not belong to civilization. — This magnificent mansion was built by an ancient ascetic warrior in the depths of the earth using scenery borrowed from the outside world. In latter days, a deeply disheartened eccentric would be discovered within. (Shakkei Pavillion Description)
This masterless mansion has become the haunting ground of monsters from the rift. Those who can wield the eternal lightning to conquer this trial will obtain the artifacts within. — This great hall stood when Seirai Island neither had the name it has now, nor had it yet been stained with the color of thunder. The scenery within will probably never change, either. (Slumbering Court Description)
Ei began designing a “perfected” puppet, the Shogun. There was no further use for the prototype and the Lord of Electro did not want to intefere in his fate.
Tumblr media
Ei conducted countless experiments to this effect, discarded a great many failed products, and spent an unimaginable amount of time and resources—But at last, by her dogged pursuit and warrior's spirit, she was able to create a flawless puppet. (Raiden Shogun: Character Story 2)
“The first to betray me was a god. My creator... my mother. Valuing strength above all, she saw no worth in me, and I was discarded” (Story Teaser: The "Divine" Will)
He was a transcendent being, divinely created, but he was cast aside like worthless dross. (Artifact Set: Pale Flame)
Later, the beautiful puppet awoke and began his wanderings. He observed many a heart, Good ones, upright ones, strong ones, gentle ones... The puppet, too, desired a heart.
This is when he met humans after Katsuragi brought him to Nagamasa, Niwa, and the others of the Tatarasuna group- heart in this context seems to be referring to individuals’ personalities and emotional bonds
Yet, due to an error that cannot be known, he roused himself from slumber, And began to wander the mortal realm. (Artifact Set: Pale Flame)
Later, the lovely puppet would finally obtain that "heart." It was, after all, his purpose for being, the very reason he existed. Yet, it was not what the puppet truly desired, For it did not contain any blessings, But was instead a sacrifice brimming with selfishness, hypocrisy, cunning and curses, All wrapped in an amiable husk.
He literally gained a heart: It was Niwa's heart that The Doctor put into a device after he murdered him and lied to the eccentric. This heart saved Kabukimono, yet he was disgusted at what he believed to be Niwa's wrongful acts and abandonment
“It took three betrayals for me to finally understand: The world is just an elaborate tapestry of lies. My fury will never be quelled” (Story Teaser: The "Divine" Will)
Good and evil were the song of sentient life, useless and cacophonous. But if he were to wrench this "heart" out, He would no longer be able to feel anything at all…
Tumblr media
“Humans... they can't be trusted. And the gods fill me with pure loathing. So I said good riddance! I denounce the world and laugh in its face. My chest will never again be defiled by worldly filth. I will scrub away every last trace of human emotion. Then it will be empty, a blank slate. And ready to receive a supreme Gnosis, brimming with pure divinity” (Story Teaser: The "Divine" Will)
Before the Fatui found him, he had drifted for countless years. And in that time, this is what his experience had taught him: "I am a 'human' who surpasses all others." "Even the gods daren't meddle in my fate." "Neither mortal nor god, nor fate itself, is qualified to be my judge." "I am free to choose how I wish to spend the remainder of my days." (Artifact Set: Pale Flame)
Calabash of Awakening
A gourd that has been adorned with powdered gold and black paint. Its original color can no longer be discerned, but its main use seems to be as a performance prop.
Amenoma, Futsu, Isshin, Hyakume, Senju. These were, once upon a time, the five branches of the Raiden Gokaden, But today, only Amenoma still maintains its line of succession. While the Isshin line can just barely be said to have extant descendants. In the eyes of the people, this is just the natural result of the ravages of time. They never once suspected that such sudden falls from grace might have some hidden mystery behind them.
These were the 5 bladesmithing arts of Inazuma. All of which were associated with the Yashiro commission. The Isshin Art included the Niwa Clan, Kaedehara Clan, and the Akame school. 100 years ago Scara destroyed all but 2 of the Arts as an act of revenge against the ‘bladesmith’ (ie. revenge against Niwa). Scara only stopped after he met Kaedehara Yoshinori and learned that Yoshinori was originally from the Niwa clan before adoption. The remaining members of the Akame school fled to Snezhnaya before ultimately dying there. Yoshinori stopped the Isshin Art to protect his family in case Scara came back and the only remaining member of the Isshin Art is Kaedehara Kazuha. The Amenoma Art is the current Inazuma blacksmithy.
The wanderer would never admit to this. He would never admit that he had done this as an act of revenge against the bladesmith. Nor would he ever mention the truth, That he had abandoned his schemes halfway because they had suddenly become dull. He would only say, in that tone of voice he had learned from a certain researcher: "It was all just a little experiment into human nature."
The researcher mentioned is Il Dottore who brought Kabukimono into the Fatui (through a well organized devious plan)
In Inazuma's traditional theater, there is a certain character known as "Kunikuzushi." Such characters are often schemers and usurpers of nations. At the end of his wanderings, he chose this name as an act of his own will. And as for the name he had once used, even he no longer remembered it.
The Kabukimono revealed this as his name when he met Kaedehara Yoshinori. The character known as Kunikuzushi is based on the character of the same name and role in real-life Kabuki theatre.
It is a norm in Inazuma's traditional theater to join the names of a play's three acts together to form the play's name. For example, "Sumirezome," "Sangetsu," and "Kogetsukan" come together, Thus forming the play "Sumirezome Sangetsu Kogetsukan." Perhaps a day will come when this body's adventures, its experiences, Will become tales to be passed along by mortals, distant memories that flow through the ley lines. But for now, his third act is still ongoing.
This is based on the real life Kabuki theater in Japan. The first form focuses on samurai and historical events. The second form focuses on domesticity such as family and commonfolk. The third form focuses on dance to convey emotion.
Often the actors in Kabuki need to know how to act as one personality to a completely opposite personality as the first one shown was only a fake.
Emotions are also expressed through the colors of the costumes, a key element in kabuki. Gaudy and strong colors can convey foolish or joyful emotions, whereas severe or muted colors convey seriousness and focus.
Kabuki involves the concept of jo-ha-kyū (序破急), a pacing convention in theater stating that the action of a play should start slow, speed up, and end quickly. Nearly every full-length play occupies five acts. The first corresponds to jo, an auspicious and slow opening which introduces the audience to the characters and the plot. The next three acts correspond to ha, where events speed up, culminating almost always in a great moment of drama or tragedy in the third act, and possibly a battle in the second or fourth acts. The final act, corresponding to kyū, is almost always short, providing a quick and satisfying conclusion.
Kabuki is known to sacrifice drama and even the plot to highlight an actor's talents. It was not uncommon in kabuki to insert or remove individual scenes from a day's schedule in order to cater to an individual actor—either scenes he was famed for, or that featured him, would be inserted into a program without regard to plot continuity.

A hat that once shielded a wanderer from sun and rain. It eventually became a convenient tool with which faces might be hidden and expressions obscured.

"Where are you going, wanderer?" The roving youth was stopped by a child's shout. That was a child of a Tatarasuna crafts-person, and while he was ill, his eyes were still clear. The youth told the child that he was bound for Inazuma City. "But it's raining really hard right now. They say that the people who left haven't returned!" The youth opened and closed his mouth a few times... But at last could only give the child a small smile. The next time he set foot upon that island, that child was nowhere to be found.
The Nameless Child from the Kabukimono’s backstory again.
Tumblr media
I'm going to assume that he went to Inazuma City because Konda Village is right outside of the city and that's where lavender melons were:
"They say that Konda Village once planted Lavender Melons and that they were famed for their secret "Konda Dye" art, by which they produced truly lovely fabric."
The Lavender Melon is mentioned in Volume 6 of Someone's Diary. According to the author, lavender melons tastes astringent and eating the skin turned his teeth and tongue purple.
Despite not being flowers at all, Lavender Melons are often used in the making of "Flower" paints, one of the two types of paint traditionally used in Inazuma.
Another interesting thing is that the fruit was likely based on the Japanese fruit Akebia which children like to gather and is also made into medicines and teas.
"Some people recollect in idyllic terms how they foraged for it in the hills as children."
“The third was one exactly like me. A hope for the future... a fledgling barely out of the nest. Powerless before his mortality, he broke his promise to me”
"Where are you going, Inazuman? This boat is not for you!" The wandering young man was halted at the harbor by a boatman. But before the youth could draw his blade, a man in his company stopped him. The man told the mariner that the outlander youth was with him. "Ah, so he's your guest, sir? My apologies for my presumption." The man gave the youth a coat to keep the cold out, but the youth shook his head. He had no need of such things — he only wished to know what interesting things he might find on this long journey.
Il Dottore brought Kabukimono to Snezhnaya; Kabukimono joined the Fatui and became Scaramouche "The Balladeer".
"Since these mask-wearing people are so fun to be around..." "I think I'll become one of them.”
"Lord Harbinger. Where are you headed?" The youth, hating chatty humans the most, gave his subordinate a backhand slap. But he also loved watching expressions of terror and helplessness play across human faces, And it was perhaps precisely because of this imbecilic underling's expressiveness that he had kept them around. He told the groveling, quailing figure that they were headed east, for Mondstadt. "I understand! I'll get your bodyguards ready right now!" He had no need of guards, of course, but he was lazier still to barter words with cretins. Donning his wanderer's hat, he headed eastward alone.
This takes place immediately before the Unreconciled Stars event.
"Child, where are you going?" Returning home, the youth was stopped at the roadside by an old woman. He told her that he was going west. "To Yashiori Island, then? What business are you on?" She had said this thoughtlessly, knowing only that things had not been peaceful of late. The youth thanked her for her concern with earnest smile and told her that he was bound for an appointed meeting. As the boat gradually approached the shore, a lady in foreign garb could be seen standing by the shoreline, And she threw a small crystal sphere at the youth from afar. Catching it with ease, he lifted it up to the dying, bloodied sun.
Takes place during Inazuma Archon Quest. The Lady in foreign garb is La Signora entering Inazuma. The crystal sphere is unknown, possibly a delusion from the factory.

GENSHIN IMPACT ARTIFACT SETS (4/?): SHIMENAWA'S REMINISCENCE
There once lived a shrine maiden named Hibiki Asase. In order to continue her training, she went to the Grand Narukami Shrine to study under the famed Kitsune Saiguu. Hibiki did not like the enigmatic kitsune at first, but she learned many things from her and grew to highly respect her mentor.
She also trained under the Yougou Tengu alongside two others, Kamuna Harunosuke and Mikoshi Nagamasa. The three would later be known as the Yougou Three. They also became acquainted with Takamine the Mistsplitter, a samurai who was also studying under the head Tengu, Reizenbou. Hibiki and Takamine grew close, though they never admitted their feelings for each other.
When the Cataclysm struck, Takamine was sent to the front lines as befits his rank as the Shogun’s hatamoto. In a reckless move, he promised Hibiki that he would return alive, and left her his prized bow as a bet. This would prove to be a fatal mistake, as his blade broke during battle and he was overwhelmed by the forces of darkness.
But that was not the end of Takamine. Years later, when Hibiki had tired of the life on Narukami and returned to her own family shrine on Seirai, Takamine appeared once again, now corrupted by the Abyss. Hibiki slew him with his own bow, viewing this as an act of mercy.

make me choose: continue living in the present, or go back to the past?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
━━ ˟ ⊰🍁THE PAST ECHOES INTO HIS future , driving him to insanity when he thinks back upon it. Countless questions litter the wasteland, the sprouts grown from the inhospitable dirt in droves for him to pull up, yet each one is a mandrake. It shrieks at him what it thinks, 'COULD YOU SAVE THEM!?' 'IS THE PAST UNABLE TO BE CHANGED?!' 'IF YOU GO BACK, COULD YOU STOP IT ALL?!' A screaming whirl of meaningless thoughts to cloud his mind and send him careening over an edge stumbling back from the plants.
There's something he recalls, 'I failed, even at that. I'm still here, and the dead are still gone. all of them — except for you.' A conversation not too far back in his past, a conclusion to the theory of returning, of turning around to flee from the world at hand and deny the existence one creates in the present. While there's some portion of his mind that would love to live back in that ignorance, laughing alongside Katsuragi while Nagamasa glared on as he became the butt of the joke for a moment, Niwa knew...there was no living in the past in continuation...
There is no more past of his...for the past no longer held Kabukimono.
What sort of a past is that when what he recalled no longer remained? In the end, he's aware of two circumstances: fate would never allow the proposal to hold true, correcting the flow of time to ensure that the story remained as similar to its current state as possible and he'd lose his friend. The dead would remain dead and the one who left would remain gone, leaving him lonelier than he felt here.
❝ When you're given a blessing, you don't turn it away. ❞ Eyelids partly fell, a fond smile taking over countenance, hand coming to press against chest. Katsuragi's laugh, Mikoshi's wisdom, Kabukimono's innocence... ❝ The past is gone now, but the memories I hold of them in it will always remain in here. I'll remain here where I can make a difference and help avenge the lives destroyed by the Fatui. ❞ For Tatarasuna and the people who lost everything -- including the ones who continue to live now...he remains in the present.

Sure i wanna know more abt tatarasuna
Spoilers for Inazuma Archon Quest and Scara's lore
Ei placed Scaramouche in Shakkei Pavillion in Tatarasuna before he suddenly woke up. He wandered around Tatarasuna before meeting this deputy named Katsuragi in Nazuchi Beach. Katsuragi brought Scaramouche back to Tatarasuna and presumably Mikage Furnace where he met all of Katsuragi's friends in the Shogunate. One of which was Mikoshi Nagamasa who was the adopted son of Ei's oni friend who betrayed her in the cataclysm. As such, he was obsessed with cleansing the stain of the Mikoshi clan and had an interest in weaponsmithing. I suspect that he wanted to create a great weapon so he could achieve his goal of cleansing the clan's name. After meeting Scaramouche, Nagamasa finished his sword and the group celebrated.
The details of what happened here are unclear but it seems that because of Nagamasa's determination, he used large amounts of Crystal Marrow which contained the Tataragami from Orobashi's corpse to smelt Jade Steel which is what the sword is made of. Because of this, the Tataragami got worse and more people got sick and the weather became more unstable. Scaramouche was likely asked to seek Ei for help since he is obviously connected to Ei (by this time, he was wearing the Husk of Opulent Dreams set which Ei gave him before leaving him to sleep) but it seems that Nagamasa disagreed with this as he could have feared that it would have further stained the name of the Mikoshi clan because the whole problem was because of him. Because of that, he locked Scaramouche up. Katsuragi freed Scara and asked him to look for Ei in Inazuma City but not to reveal his true identity to anyone.
Scara tried to look for Yae for help but despite her promises, either it was too late or she didn’t send anyone to help. By the time Scara went back, Nagamasa had killed Katsuragi with the sword he made because he disobeyed his orders and most of Scara’s friends were dead. It isn’t clear what happened between Scara and Nagamasa here but it seems that the reason why Scara eliminated the Raiden Gokuden (and by extension the Kaedehara clan) was partly out of revenge since Nagamasa (a bladesmith) killed his closest friend. Also the reason why he didn’t completely end the clans was because he got bored lol.

Note
I have a headcanon that Mikoshi Nagamasa was the strict but kind Grandpa to the Kabukimono. We only heard his voice in the quest, but it gave me grandpa vibes.
Oh! I think I remember that? I really need to rewatch the quest (again lol), but I keep getting distracted by the other Genshin Impact videos that YouTube keeps recommending me. Lol. But honestly, characters are designed to have a specific vibe including their voices so I wouldn't be surprised if they did have that in mind!

➦About scaramouche below the cut
➩Name(s);
Scaramouche;
-Scaramouche (French: [skaʁamuʃ]) or Scaramouch (English: /ˈskærəmuː(t)ʃ, -maʊtʃ/; from Italian Scaramuccia [skaraˈmuttʃa], literally “little skirmisher”) is a stock clown character of the 16th-century commedia dell'arte (comic theatrical arts of Italian literature). The role combined characteristics of the Zanni (servant) and the Capitano (masked henchman), with some assortment of villainous traits. Usually attired in black Spanish dress and burlesquing a Don, he was often beaten by Harlequin for his boasting and cowardice.¹
The balladeer;
-A singer of ballads.
Kunikuzushi;
-country destroyer.
➩Personality;
Scaramouche is an arrogant and overly confident man that is quick to get angry and lash out because of it, he isn’t well-liked by his fellow fatui members because of such.
He presents himself as someone that is friendly and helpful at first, wanting to deceive those around him and luring them into a false sense of security before stabbing them in the back.
He isn’t above yelling and disrespecting people below him, often times talking down to them and making it known that he is above them and that they don’t matter.
However, while it may not be expected, he is rather sensitive deep down inside. He is known for crying in his sleep and having horrific nightmares. He has a soft spot for kids and elderly.
➩story;
Scaramouche was originally created by Ei as a test into the technology of making puppet bodies. He was not meant to perfectly resemble her, only to test if creating a puppet body was possible. As his creation was successful, he was considered the prototype for the puppet she now uses as the Raiden Shogun. While he was intended to serve as a vessel for Ei's Gnosis, he shed tears upon his creation, leading her to deem him too gentle for such a task. She did not wish to kill him, so she instead sealed his power as a divine creation and allowed him to take control of his own life. He spent his early days in Shakkei Pavilion.
For a time, Scaramouche settled in Tatarasuna after Inspector Mikoshi Nagamasa’s yoriki, Katsuragi, found him in the pavilion. Nagamasa’s group referred to him as the “wandering eccentric,” as he had no name at the time. Scaramouche grew close with Katsuragi and, after the forging of the Daitatara Nagamasa, performed a sword dance with him. Sometime later, for reasons unknown, the group pursued Scaramouche but was unable to find him. After learning of Katsuragi’s “misconduct,” which was likely related to the reason they were searching for Scaramouche, Nagamasa flew into a rage and slew Katsuragi. This divided the group, who believed Nagamasa was too obsessed with purity to understand Katsuragi’s good intentions. Nagamasa and Scaramouche would later clash, with Nagamasa’s fate afterwards left unknown. Scaramouche also took on the name “Kunikuzushi.”
Kunikuzushi eventually chanced upon a group of Fatui. Deciding they were interesting, he joined their ranks, wherein they unlocked the innate power he had as a creation of an Archon. The Fatui also gave him some additional modifications, and eventually, he climbed to the position of The Balladeer, the Sixth of the Eleven Fatui Harbingers. It is unclear whether this occurred before or during the Case of the Eccentric, which Kunikuzushi masterminded and the Fatui assisted in.²
