Corbyn turned off the engine to his car, the rumble of the BMW fading into silence as he took a deep breath. His eyes fell to the clock on the dashboard, 01:38 AM. With a sigh, he stepped out of the car and locked it. He trudged up the steps to his house, a queasy feeling blooming in his guts as he twisted the knob and walked into the dark hallway.

He shuffled quietly to the living room, barely lit by the slithers of moonlight peeking through the windows and the backyard door. Corbyn placed his keys gently on the dining table when a light in the living room suddenly turned on. The young man winced, turning around to the room where the light source was.

“Well, well, well,” she spoke, “Look who decided to come home.”

Corbyn gulped, making his way to the living room. Y/n sat on an arm chair across from him, at the other end of the room, beside a lit lamp.

“Hey baby,” he smiled softly, “I thought you already went to sleep.”

Y/n scoffed, leaning back in the chair, “Don’t baby me, it’s nearly 2 AM, Corbyn.”

Corbyn ruffled his hair, “Look I’m sorry, okay? The boys and I were up late in the studio.”

“You and the boys were at the studio?”, y/n got up, crossing her arms. “That’s not what Jack told me.”

“Y/n, I can explain myse-”

“Don’t lie to me, Corbyn,”, y/n walked up to him. “Where were you?”

Corbyn tried to reason, reaching his hands out to hold hers, “I swear I’ll come home earlier, baby, I’ll do bette-”

“Answer the question.”, y/n cut him off, pulling her hands out of his. “Where were you?”

Corbyn stepped back, turning away.

“What’s the matter? Don’t have anything to say anymore?”

“Don’t do this, y/n,” Corbyn whispered.

“What’s her name, again? Was it Michaela? Nora? Arya?”

Corbyn winced, remaining silent.

Y/n chuckled mockingly, “Oh? It’s someone else, is it?”

Y/n pulled out her phone from her pocket, opening her photos where she had screenshotted it all, reading the headlines.

“Why Don’t We member, Corbyn Besson spotted at Boa getting comfortable with a girl.”

“Music star, Corbyn Besson, seen kissing a girl.”

“Corbyn Besson seen on a date. Who is this mysterious girl? Where’s y/n?”

She shoved her phone into Corbyn’s hand who glanced down at the articles and images of him and someone else.

“I can explain,” Corbyn said calmly, “That wasn’t a date, I swear.”

Y/n laughed, “So, you just go around shoving your lips onto you friend’s?”

She snatched her phone back, “That’s your best excuse yet.”

“It was just this once, I promise. I’ll change, I’ll be a better man,” Corbyn apologised, tears welling in his eyes.

“That’s what you say,” y/n whispered, her lips trembling, “Every. Single. Time.”

Corbyn’s breath shuddered as a tear fell down his cheek, “Please”

“What a shame,” y/n scoffed. “Is that what you think of me?”

Corbyn looked down.

“Look at me,” y/n demanded. Corbyn looked up at her, his eyes holding remorse. “Have you seen me?! Do you even notice?”, y/n asked.

“I’m tired of being treated like some object.” y/n threw her hands in the air. “And I hate that every single time you fuck up, you know I’ll still run back to your arms. But I’m done.”

Y/n shook her head, tears building in her eyes, “Just look at yourself! You’re a mess, Corbyn Besson. I gave you a million chances and you threw them all away. I can’t believe I even stayed.”

Y/n marched past him, running up the stairs, leaving Corbyn alone in the living room. He leaned forward against the edge of the couch, his hands gripping the fabric as he let out a string of curse words.

After a few moments, the sound of footsteps echoed on the staircase and Corbyn looked up. Y/n came down with tear stains on her face, a suitcase in her hands and a bag on her shoulders.

She stood at the bottom of the staircase, across from Corbyn.

He sniffled, “I’m sorry.”

“I’m sure you are,” she pulled up the handle of the luggage, dragging it with her to the door.

“I-it’s late,” Corbyn gulped, “Stay for the night; you can leave in the morning. I’ll- I’ll s-slleep on the couch.”

“I’d rather be anywhere else than here with you,” she muttered, holding back her stream of tears. Y/n picked up her car keys, heading out the door. “Goodbye, Corbyn.”

Corbyn winced at the sound of the door slamming. He listened to the sound of the engine starting and the rumble of the car as it pulled out of the driveway. He furiously wiped away his tears, trying to keep his composure.

Corbyn turned off the lamp in the living room and walked up the stairs. His hand pressed onto the ajar door of the bedroom, pushing it open. The drawers and cupboards were left open, half empty. His eyes fell to his bed, where his side remained untouched, and hers had the remains of her imprint on the cloth of the bedsheet. A picture frame stood on her bedside table. Drawn to the image, he shuffled over to it, picking up the wooden piece which held a picture of him and y/n.

Corbyn’s fingers traced the outline of her face, admiring the picture which captured her smile next to his. The familiar feeling of guilt bubbled in his guts, overcoming him as he recalled the time of the picture. He had been seeing someone else, but y/n never knew. That was a year ago.

He sobbed, falling to his knees, as he clutched the picture to his chest. His cries echoed in the half empty room, stretching to the quiet house. A house which held nothing but the ruins of empty promises, and half-honest “I love you”’s.

Bye bye Melbourne

Es ist der 04.09.2017 und wir sitzen gerade in Christchurch, Neuseeland am Flugshafen. Hinter uns liegt eine anstrengende, emotionale letzte Woche in Melbourne.

Am 22.08.2017 sind wir am Abend aus Tasmanien wieder gekommen und am nächsten Morgen direkt wieder auf Arbeit. Wir freuten uns riesig auf das Wochenende, da unsere Freunde Greg & Amber aus Canberra uns nochmal besuchen kamen. Leider konnten sie aus Platzmangel nicht bei uns übernachten und mussten in ein Hotel. Wir hätten sie gern bei uns gehabt. Am Freitagabend haben wir die beiden vom Flughafen abgeholt, noch eine Kleinigkeit gegessen und sie dann zum Hotel gebracht, da die beiden todmüde waren und wir auch am nächsten Tag nochmal auf Arbeit mussten. Am Samstagnachmittag war ich mit Amber in einer Bar, bevor wir die Jungs dann im Reverence Hotel getroffen haben. Michael hat an diesem Abend den letzten Auftritt mit seiner Band gehabt und all unsere Freunde waren da. Da wusste man gar nicht, mit wem man zuerst reden sollte 😊 völlig kaputt sind wir dann gegen 02:00 Uhr ins Bett gefallen und haben am Sonntag erstmal alle ausgeschlafen. Am Nachmittag haben sich dann alle wieder getroffen, um den Kampf McGregor vs. Mayweather anzuschauen. Nicht schön, aber selten 😄den Sonntagabend haben wir dann nur mit Greg & Amber zu viert verbracht. Wir waren bei Madam K's zum Abendessen und haben uns noch in Rue de Crêperie einen Crêpe gegönnt. Es war ein ganz wundervoller Abend. Wir haben die beiden dann noch ins Hotel gebracht und mussten uns von ihnen verabschieden, was mir das Herz gebrochen hat, da die beiden nach all der Zeit zu unseren engsten Freunden gehören. Ein kleiner Vorgeschmack auf das, was uns am Wochenende danach erwartet hat 😔 aber bei ihnen fiel der Abschied doch besonders schwer. Allerdings haben die versprochene alle Hebel in Bewegung zu setzen, um im April nach Deutschland zu kommen ❤️

Die nächste Woche stand erstmal wieder arbeiten an. Wir haben uns jedoch gleich Montag dazu entschlossen, am Mittwoch das letzte Mal zu gehen, da sonst alles furchtbar hektisch geworden wäre und wir unsere letzten Tage gar nicht hätten genießen können. Die Woche war so schon Stress pur, da wir nur auf Achse waren, um nochmal so viel Zeit wie möglich mit allen zu verbringen. Am Montag haben wir uns mit allen im Haus von Pepper & Stacy getroffen, Pizza gefuttert und Game of Thrones geschaut. Am Dienstag waren wir dann zum Abendessen bei Daryl & Michaela eingeladen, die mittlerweile in der 36. Woche schwanger ist. Leider verpassen wir also die kleine Madeleine knapp. Aber wir haben ihr noch ein Märchenbuch hinterlassen 😊am Mittwoch hatten wir mal ein bisschen Ruhe, bevor es am Donnerstag erst zu Regan, einem der krassesten Plattensammlern überhaupt, ging. Als Michael das Regal durchstöbert hat, habe ich ihn das erste mal in meinem Leben sprachlos gesehen 😄 danach waren wir nochmal bei Lentil as anything in der Klosteranlage des Abbotsford Convent Abendessen, da dies einer unserer absoluten Lieblingsplätze in Melbourne ist. Die Tage verbrachten wir noch mit ein bisschen shoppen und den erledigen der letzten organisatorischen Dinge, bevor am Freitag unser erster großer Abschiedsabend anstand. Wir haben unsere Freunde gesplittet und so waren wir am Freitag mit den ersten 26 Leuten bei Madam K's. Das habe ich noch ganz gut verkraftet. Am Samstag wurde es dann emotionaler. Am Nachmittag waren wir mit Ricky & Jacqui im botanischen Garten, um nochmal einen letzten Blick auf die Stadt zu werfen. Im Anschluss haben wir uns mit dem Rest der Bande zum Abendessen im Reverence Hotel getroffen und haben dann den Abend bei Ricky & Jacqui zu Hause ausklingen lassen. Der Abschied von diesem Teil war ziemlich schwer und diesmal auf feucht. Sie sind uns alle so sehr ans Herz gewachsen! 😪wir sind vor einem Jahr allein nach Australien gekommen und verlassen das Land nun mit Freunden fürs Leben. Dafür sind wir unendlich dankbar und darum müssen wir denke ich zukünftig sehr viel Urlaub hier machen 😄

Neben all dem Abschiedsschmerz gab es aber natürlich auch noch die letzten organisatoriachen Baustellen.

Zum einen haben wir unser Auto gleich nach Tasmanien in die Werkstatt gebracht, um die Reparatur für dieses Zertifikat machen zu lassen. Diese Geschichte ist gut ausgegangen. Die Rechnung war 300$ weniger als das Angebot und Alan hat die Hälfte davon übernommen. Also sind wir aus der Sache ganz gut raus gekommen und Alan hat gestern von uns ein super Auto überreicht bekommen 😊👍🏻

Die Steuererklärung hat uns auch noch eine Weile beschäftigt und je mehr Meinungen wir eingeholt haben, desto verwirrender wurde es. Wir hatten die Sachen an eine Steueragentur gegeben, aber es stellte sich heraus, dass die auch falsch lagen nach Meinung des Finanzamtes. Nach dem letzten Gespräch mit dem Finanzamt habe ich dann Michaels Änderungsantrag laufen lassen und meine Steuererklärung selbst eingereicht. Was sich als gut herausgestellt hat, denn ich habe 200$ wieder bekommen anstelle 1100$ zu zahlen. Michaels Änderungsantrag ist noch immer in Bearbeitung, aber da müsste eigentlich das selbe rauskommen. Da ist ein reisen Stein vom Herzen gefallen.

Das letzte Problem waren unsere ganzen Sachen 🙈 wir hatten unter der Woche Ralf schon einen Koffer voll Klamotten gegeben, die er zu Weihnachten mit nach Hause bringt und ein 8kg Paket per Post nach Hause geschickt. Wir dachten das sollte reichen, was sich am Samstag als Irrtum herausstellte 😄 nachdem unsere Rucksäcke schon voll waren, lag das ganze Zimmer immernoch voller Sachen. Das Ende vom Lied war, dass Ralf jetzt 2 Koffer von uns hat und wir auch noch einen Trolley extra mit uns herumschleppen 😄 nützt ja nix, der Kram muss ja irgendwie weg. 🙈

Am Sonntag, gestern, war dann alles soweit erledigt und geregelt. Ich hatte zugegeben keine gute Laune, da mir die ganzen Abschiede zu viel waren und ich sehr traurig war. Wir haben mit Daniel und Emily noch einmal zu Hause gefrühstückt und waren am Abend mit den beiden nochmal essen, bevor sie uns zum Flughafen gebracht haben. Auch da sind natürlich wieder reichlich Tränen geflossen.

Und nun sitzen wir hier in Neuseeland, was ich noch gar nicht so richtig realisiert habe. Die ganze Situation hat noch gar keine Vorfreude zugelassen 😊wir hatten ein unglaublich tolles Jahr! Besser, als wir es uns je erträumt hätten! Wir haben eine zweite Heimat in der Ferne und Freunde fürs Leben gefunden und dafür sind wir unendlich dankbar. Obwohl der Abschiedsschmerz natürlich gerade überwiegt freuen wir uns auch riesig auf zu Hause und unsere Familie und Freunde, die wir nicht weniger vermisst haben. Martin hat es richtig gesagt:" it's not goodbye, it's see you later!" Und genauso wird es auch werden ❤️

Jetzt werden wir uns erstmal wieder ein wenig sortieren und uns auf drei tolle Wochen in Neuseeland freuen.

Ganz am Ende, als jegliche Hoffnung erloschen ist, sitzt Michaela Ferling am Bett ihres Großvaters in einem Klinikum im Münchner Süden, sie streicht ihm über den Kopf, sie überlegt ein letztes Mal, ob die Entscheidung, die sie getroffen hat, die richtige ist. Von seinem Körper führen Kabel zu Monitoren, sein Brustkorb hebt und senkt sich langsam. Seine Augen sind geschlossen. Dann geht Ferling zur Ärztin. "Wir sind jetzt so weit", sagt sie. Es ist der 1. März 2018, zwei Tage nachdem ihr Großvater einen Schlaganfall erlitten hat und von morgens bis abends auf der Suche nach dem richtigen Bett quer durch die Stadt gefahren wurde, von Klinik zu Klinik. Zehn Stunden lang.
