Usopp and Conqueror’s Haki | part 1 (TL;DR)

Read this if have you any doubts. True Usopp fans only.

This is probably one of my MOST favorite topics to just think about and mull over. For the past couple of days, I’ve just been spouting streams of consciousness it seems, but I’m really wanting to showcase what there is to like and truly appreciate about Usopp.

So, this whole discussion on him having Conqueror’s haki just gets my neurons goin’ baby. Meaning it makes me really happy and theoretical and the like.

As long as I’ve been in this fandom I’ve come across all these theories and speculations surrounding Usopp. And guess what? They never stop. And they don’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon. The Final Saga is here and OP fans are getting anxious and bold. Behind all the scrutiny and petty hate, the real question everyone is asking is, “What will Usopp do next?”

Anywho, every time the convo gets to Conqueror’s haki Usopp gets name-dropped. I never entertained what people would consider bullsh*t. But every time I’d look into Usopp theories and speculation, Conqueror’s Haki was at the forefront. But then when I started frequenting websites such as Worstgen, Reddit, YouTube, etc. Conqueror’s haki kept being brought up and Usopp was in that same sentence. Even the haters with all their doubts think Usopp shows the most potential when compared to other characters people speculate on (no shade to them at all, whatsoever). So, after that sh*t started being shoved in my face, I decided to look into all these theories and speculation arising when it came to Usopp and Conqueror’s Haki, AND despite being skeptical and straddling the fence, I mean, the guy has potential.

First, I’m just gonna say this, when people start talking about how he’s gonna use it and when he’s gonna use it, they come up with all these scenarios that got me thinking they are cooking up something quite tasty.

Like, a multitude of a multi-page thesis.

One scenario that stands out to me is that there will be a moment where Usopp finds himself amid battle and unfortunately he once (again) gets the overpowered baddie whom the monster trio can’t defeat. So per usual, Usopp runs, hides, lies, makes a few seemingly tactless shots with Kabuto, and grovels (maybe), and then he starts getting beaten to a pulp. Like he starts getting the sh*t beat out of him. Then the baddie leaves him or more clearly the baddie starts walking off while giving a diatribe about Usopp being a worthless piece of sh*t and deadweight, throwing Usopp’s insecurities back into his face. So, Usopp gets back up and tries again (bleeding and tired), and some way and somehow (due to desperation and sheer will) he unleashes conqueror’s haki and it’s game over for the big baddie. But it depends if the true fight gets started then (Usopp’s Kabuto raised and ready) or the baddie just ends up on the ground, stomped. The end. This also clarifies that when people imagine Usopp with Conqueror's Haki, this isn't something he's trained for; so it's very sloppy and new to him. He won't know he's used it. It's a one-time, big moment thing, and then whatever else happens from there we run with.

But let’s get back to the ground. That’s daydream-ville. I gotta come back to earth. Needless to say, there are some supposed and still growing/adding conqueror’s haki traits that are/include:

The ability to force their will onto others/a strong will

This one is very complex, somewhat, when it comes to Usopp. But it’s also where it’s the most interesting. From the jump, the Going Merry crosses my mind. Ship developed a Klabautermann because of Usopp’s wholehearted care. That was one of the MAJOR (if not only) reasons why she came to save the Straw Hats during the buster call. So, he was basically the captain of the GOING MERRY (not the SHs, he lets Luffy have that with no qualms—and never did have any).

Then let’s not forget Usopp’s iconic speech when Luffy needed to get his a** up and finish Lucci off. Many people claim that—when discussing how far the crew could’ve gone without Usopp—this is where the deal-breaker comes in. If Usopp hadn’t been there to give Luffy that speech, Luffy would’ve been cat food.

Then there’s Usopp lies coming true. Call it a coincidence or irrelevant, there is indeed proof. If you’re an Usopp fan, you know you know.

Heck, he’s even lied about having conqueror’s two times (was it two or three?), and everyone knows that his lies come true. Even haters (to a point) or non-fans actually can consider this. Like, bro lies about having conqueror’s haki two times and it’s bound to come true.

Raphael manages to come to the material plane of earth and finds Tav at a comic con. But they remember nothing. Reverse iseaki, kinda. mangled as per usual 🤷

It is a weird place this material plane called earth. And whatever conventions are, Raphael is not sure he likes them. He ran into many people pretending to be some of his merry and of adventurers, even some how posed as himself. Which was preposterous, but he let is slip. They were all so eager. To be seen with him, talk to him, offer their souls for almost free and their bodies for even less.

Coming here was worth the trouble it had been. And then there is Tav. He'd know his little mouse everywhere. It helps that they wore the impossibly underpowered armour of their first meeting. Raphael smiles at the memory. It makes up, somewhat, for the insultingly cheap accommodation they lodge in. Not that Tav seems ashamed, considering they brought him along without much persuasion.

The mattress sinks disgracefully under his weight and there is only one chair in the tiny room. The chair, though, is stacked with clothes. Some look hauntingly familiar. Tav retired to the bathroom to slip into something more comfortable. Raphael is curious as to what that might be. The occasions on which he saw Tav in casual garments were few.

Tav being in this material plane explained where they had gone to when the elder brain exploded. Raphael refused to believe they were dead from the start. His mouse did not die. It is good to have his truth confirmed.

Not that Tav went by their name here, or seemed to what happened. Something he can certainly help with. And they are so pliable, open for his every suggestion. All it took was one conversation and Tav cancelled all their plans.

Raphael picks up the phone rectangle and scrutinises it. Tav used it to cancel their plans with their friends (immediately) to let them know they wouldn't be back until the next day.

Raphael will see about that later. First he has to reawaken Tav's memories. Maybe something he can work with is hidden in the phone The lock screen is an image of him in full armour, glowering. He appreciates. But what else hides on the device?

M for Mouse is an obvious password. The letter is also a greasy smear on the display. Raphael unlocks the phone as he observed Tav dong earleir. And stares. The home screen is a picture of him, alright, but naked and bloody. The profile is gorgeous, if he says so himself, and thankfully the image cuts of at the waist.

Unsure what to do next, the icons on the home screen don't look like anything familiar except for the musical note, Raphael swipes and gets an error message. Not his fault. Skip. He is returned to the previous screen and tries the other direction. More unknown icons. And the Gallery. His lip quirks up.

Camera is first. The folder contains random images of his little mouse, everyday items and occasions like food. He thumbs back to the gallery and opens the next folder.

Mouse on holiday with a sibling by the looks. The pictures are suffused with the bright light of southern skies and deep blue seas. Tav shines with happiness, out-radiating their sibling by ages. Raphael doesn't understand why Tav was talking about them as if the other was the good-looking one earlier.

But they like the Ocean. Good to know. Something he can work with needs be. Raphael smiles as he opens another folder. Another holiday. Same content. His little mouse looking so relaxed. They obviously need some time off. That can be arranged.

He browses more folders, wondering if he can find something spicy. A preview, so to speak. Instead, there is a folder titled "oh no" that has an image of him as thumb nail. Whatever was 'oh no' about him. Raphael fumes silently and opens the folder.

In comparison, it is huge. More images than the other folders combined, probably. And they are all of him. Raphael blinks and fast scrolls to the bottom. It takes a while, but no, all files are pictures of him. He scrolls back up slowly.

Most pictures are just him in various places, outfits, and angles. He frowns at some that show less than perfect renditions. Whatever does Tav want with those. Even more surprising are the artistic renditions. Many overemphasise the bump on his nose and the wrinkles.

And then there are – nudes. All drawn, naturally. Artistic nudes and – not so artistic ones. His eyes widen. The one thing he can say for the images is that none show him humiliated in any way. Except by depicting him in states of ungodly arousal.

Tav has drawn a crude arrow on an image that cuts off at the waist while his face shows decidedly what happened there and written in shaky letters "my head there" on it. Raphael almost blushes. That naughty little thing. The name of the file being "I Wish" adds to the overall flavour.

Reluctantly, he scrolls on, while his head provides the most delicious ideas to the scenario. Who'd have thought his little mouse was this far gone for him? Something to exploit, certainly. For his own advantage, of course; pleasure being incidental, naturally.

For his sanity and the structural integrity of his trousers, Raphael looks through the other folders. But there is nothing showing his little pet in similar situations. A shame, really. He'd like to see it. Instead there is images of Tav in different outfits and wigs. They look a little silly in most but so very happy, he cannot begrudge them.

The other little images lead to confusing places full of words and images by other people. He closes them and returns to the gallery. He's still musing over his unexpected finds when Tav re-emerges from the bathroom. They look – underwhelming, if still stunning.

Their light blue short-sleeved shirt has big white flowers patterned over it and buttons down the front. The trousers are of a light cotton, the kind that is usually held up by elastics. Raphael can't help a knowing smile.

Tav blushes a little, but keeps their trajectory and flops down next to him. They glance at the screen in his hands and let out something akin to an embarrassed chuckle. "Found my collection, huh? At least you didn't call my mum."

"I don't see that purpose contacting your mother would serve," he replies. Tav's hair is lightly damp, still, smelling of sandalwood, bergamot and cinnamon. There was no need to shower. They did it anyway. Prepared for absolutely everting, it seems.

"A truly remarkable collection. Though I hoped there might be images of you in precarious situation as well." Raphael puts an adventurous arm around the human leaning against his side.

"I'm not stupid," Tav replies.

"Only horny." He scrolls back down and relished in the delicious blush turning their face bright red. "I was offered several souls in exchange for this today."

Tav buries their face in his arm. "You got so lucky in the looks tombola."

Raphael sits back a little and takes Tav's chin between his fingers. "You really don't remember who I am, do you?"

They shake their head, eyes wide and blush giving their face an intensity that makes itself felt in less polite regions of his body.

"Let me show you." He stands and even in human form his crotch is at an unfortunate height now. But Tav stares up at him, curious and unafraid, just as he remembers. With a smile he rolls his shoulders and stretches into his cambion form.

Character ask: Ebenezer Scrooge (A Christmas Carol)

No one requested this, but I answered asks for all the other main Christmas Carol characters last year, so it's high time I answered one for the iconic protagonist.

Favorite thing about them: His redemption arc, and how kind, generous, and full of joy he becomes by the end. Also the fact that Dickens breaks the standard rule of "Make the protagonist likable" and depicts a very unpleasant man, yet throws him into situations that make us engage with him even before he becomes likable, and then steadily earns our sympathy for him.

Least favorite thing about them: Well, he's obviously not a good person at the beginning of the story. That's the whole point.

Three things I have in common with them:

*I tend to be less social than many people are.

*I can be greedy and self-absorbed at times, though I try not to be.

*I try to be generous to those in need, as he is by the end.

Three things I don't have in common:

*I'm not an elderly British man.

*I'm not a business owner.

*I've never been a nasty miser.

Favorite line:

"If I could work my will, every idiot who goes about with ‘Merry Christmas’ on his lips, should be boiled with his own pudding, and buried with a stake of holly through his heart."

Explaining to Marley's Ghost why he doesn't believe in him:

“Because a little thing affects them. A slight disorder of the stomach makes them cheats. You may be an undigested bit of beef, a blot of mustard, a crumb of cheese, a fragment of an underdone potato. There’s more of gravy than of grave about you, whatever you are!”

To the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come:

“Ghost of the Future! I fear you more than any spectre I have seen. But as I know your purpose is to do me good, and as I hope to live to be another man from what I was, I am prepared to bear you company, and do it with a thankful heart. Will you not speak to me?... How vow of redemption:

His giddy joy immediately afterwards:

“I don’t know what to do! I am as light as a feather, I am as happy as an angel, I am as merry as a schoolboy. I am as giddy as a drunken man. A merry Christmas to everybody! A happy New Year to all the world. Hallo here! Whoop! Hallo!”

His prank on Bob Cratchit:

“Now, I’ll tell you what, my friend, I am not going to stand this sort of thing any longer. And therefore... and therefore I am about to raise your salary!”

brOTP: In his past, his sister Fan, his fellow apprentice Dick Wilkins, Fezziwig as a mentor/father figure to him, and Jacob Marley, to whatever extent they were really friends and not just partners. In his future, Bob Cratchit, Tiny Tim, the rest of Cratchit family, his nephew Fred, Fred's wife, and their soon-to-be-born baby.

OTP: Belle in his youth; in the present, none.

nOTP: Any of the ghosts or the Cratchit children.

Random headcanon: He's of Scottish descent. His family's surname was originally the Scottish "Scroggie" (from which Dickens may have derived his name in real life), but they Anglicized it to "Scrooge" when they came to England.

Unpopular opinion: Even though almost every adaptation shows him sharing romantic moments with Belle at Fezziwig's party, in the book I don't think their engagement took place until after his apprenticeship with Fezziwig. In the scene showing Belle with her husband and children on the night Marley died, her youngest child is just a baby, so she was still of childbearing age just 7 years before Scrooge's redemption. This seems to imply that she's much younger than Scrooge. I don't mind this fact; age gaps were common between couples of their generation. But apprentices in that era were usually teenagers, so unless teenage Scrooge started courting Belle when she was 10 or 11 years old, I sincerely doubt they were already sweethearts when he was Fezziwig's apprentice.

People would always surprise her - it's why she loved people. The more she saw, the more she tended to like humanity. Though she knew it was rather the opposite for most of her fellow heroes and vigilantes.

She couldn't say she knew them well, but you could always pick up on things couldn't you? And Wanda bit her bottom lip slightly, trying to refrain the amused smile from spreading across her features before he spoke. Because no one could do stressed - happy, excited, annoyed, angered - as well as Steven. That much was something she had learned.

"You know what? That's rather a good greeting from you," she responded, arms folding across her chest before one arm reached up and she tapped her chin as though thoughtful. A little hum as she mused before sending him a warm smile. "What's a crisis to one is adventure to another. Or gain. Is this a crisis you would like a SOLUTION for? Or just to VENT? For you, I'm here for either." ...Though she supposed she'd hardly turn anyone away when they had a crisis.

"You should start doing yoga with me. Your blood pressure must be through the roof. You need a relaxing exercise." She was joking, truly, though she tried to keep her expression deadpan or firm as she spoke - though the smile at the end maybe gave it away. "Merry crisis, Steven. I'm sure whatever it is, you can handle it. So come on. Is this a crisis that coffee will help, or magic?"

"Though, I hope it's not something that will drag on? I was hoping to ask if you'd like to be my gossip partner again. Another gala. I do not plan on attending this one if it's by myself. What a bore-fest...." A slight scrunching of her nose, shake of her head. Not that she wouldn't give to charities or towards the arts. But she could do without being dragged into the weird world of big parties she knew nothing about.

It's almost WF time! Just to remind everyone, deadline for posting is end of the year EST, so by 23:59 on December 31 you should, at the absolute latest, be clicking 'post' on ao3!

Quite a few people have already posted their gifts (amazing 🤍) and some questions regarding posting images on ao3 have come up so we decided to make a guide.

1. ao3 doesn't have image hosting servers so you have to host your image elsewhere and post the link to ao3, for example imgbb.com. make sure the gallery is public!

2. Log into your ao3 account and choose 'my assignments'. Your WF assignment should be there, click 'fill'. Choose 'rich text editor'

3. click on this icon

and this pops up

4. On igmbb or whatever gallery site your using, right click on your image and open it in a new tab. Copy the address and post that in the source field on ao3. Do not use embed links, ao3 doesn't like them for some reason. Save the pic.

5. Before posting, check what your pic looks like in preview, go back to step 3 and resize in the pop up window if needed

6. Try to stay calm as you wait for Reveal Day🤍

okay here’s my opinions of the silly songs

like I said I would

so long story short:

if you wanna hear me elaborate for whatever reason, I will!

I should maybe go in order of the songs from yellow green to red.

“Asteroid Cowboys” was fine but Veggies in Space is kind of an episode I already don’t revisit that much, so in tandem, I don’t actually remember this song all that well. “A Mess Down in Egypt” I barely remember for the same reason; I haven’t revisited Moe and the Big Exit since the first time I saw it. And again, I haven’t seen Merry Larry since a couple months ago, and the visuals themselves were a bit squicky to me, I’m not sure why. It’s cute in concept though! (I probably sound like a really pretentious critic right now)

OKAY, moving on to yellow! “Best Friends Forever” obviously feels very “how do you do, fellow kids“ but honestly, from an in-universe lens, I just like seeing Laura hanging out, so I don’t entirely mind it. “Happy Tooth Day” I get to hear a good bit from virtue of watching The Little House That Stood pretty frequently. I like Jimmy, Jerry, and Mr. Lunt just forming a little brass trio for the first part of the song. Madame Blueberry wacking Larry with a baseball bat was really cool too. Plus, Bob doing his little yelps and shouts is always a bonus for me. I don’t have strong feelings on “The Blues with Larry“ . Except for the poodle at the end. I like the poodle. And Lincoln destroying a cookie with a guitar was pretty neat. “S.U.V“ I also don’t have strong feelings on. The product placement was bizarre though. Not that it bothers me much though. I feel like VT will just randomly slip in a reference to a real life world thing and it’ll end up making me wonder if Big Idea ever has to pay fees or whatever people have to do to say the name of a brand or a celebrity. Or maybe they just don’t and say it anyway. I know they got into some hot water with the owners of the Lord of the Rings IP over Lord of the Beans though so... yeah, “S.U.V“ is fine. I usually skipped “The Biscuit of Zazzamarandabo“ while watching The Big River Rescue. When I did listen to it fully though; it’s pretty alright. I do like the idea of Archibald just going on a road trip with some of the other guys to go see a biscuit on top of a mountain while info-dumping about on the way. “The Song of the Cebu“ is funky and I like Archibald interjecting every few minutes just to tell Larry about much of a shit show the slideshow is becoming. Archibald saying “I’ll have to speak to Bob about this“ just makes me wonder what the fuck they did behind the scenes just to end up (unintentionally) crushing Larry’s spirit the way that they did. I think it’d make for a good angst premise. I usually skip “Obscure Broadway Showtunes“ or just don’t pay attention to it when watching Pistachio, but it sounds fine. I’m just not into it. I liked the fanged stapler at the end. “The Water Buffalo Song“ is a classic, I know. There’s just not much to revisit with this one divorced from the episode it’s from. But I do like it! Or however much was allowed to be sung before Archibald came in and chastised Larry for the song. I like how Larry holds the note.

YELLOW ORANGE TIME!!! I really like “Endangered Love” but it sucks that every time I have to remember this song, it keeps defaulting to “Barbara Manatee“ as the title. Larry watches a soap opera. I don’t actually have a lot to say about it, but Mr. Lunt’s just iconic. “Lance the Turtle“ is good for a thrown-together-gimmick song and (unsurprisingly) Bob is always the highlight of these things for me. “Love My Lips“ has the “it’s a lip“ William Tell Overture part and I kinda like that part. Overall, good song. I like “Monkey.“ I first heard it on youtube some months ago and it got stuck in my head a bit. Seeing Bob with a tail was kinda great. OOOH “YODELING VETERINARIAN OF THE ALPS!“ Here’s the start of my favorite Silly Songs. I loved this song so much when I heard it for the first time a couple months ago. I love the Scallions + Frankencelery quartet. “THE DANCE OF THE CUCUMBER!!!” I love this song but it actually almost made me think Bob never sang before. I ALMOST FELL FOR LARRY’S TEASING! IT WAS THE HOLLOW KNIGHT CLOTHING INCIDENT ALL OVER AGAIN!!! (for context, I had a small moment in time where I thought fabric didn’t exist in the Hollow Knight universe) Aside from that, this song fucks.

ORANGE!!!!!! Okay this might seem like a weird one because I generally don’t see people talk about Sheerluck at all, but I kinda love “Gated Community”??? I just really like the rhythm of it. Once again, Larry holds a note and I really like it when he does that. “Larry’s High Silk Hat“ is great! Honestly, I think I’m just kinda into tarantella in general. “Oh, Santa“ is really cool, but now it sorta makes me think of Larry doing a “Santa Baby“ cover. I love Scallion 1′s weird little noises and also Bob just being the way that he is. “The Hairbrush Song“ is such a delightfully hammy song to me and! I don’t think I have to state what my favorite part is in this. My SECOND favorite part though is the ending part after the Peach leaves. I love that part of the song. And finishing off the oragne row, “The Pirates Who Don’t Do Anything“ is just a fun song!

RED and the only thing in red; I fucking love “Belly Button.“ I’m not immune to vegetables in a boy band. The flashy zoom-ins on the members give me so much life. Khalil’s rap bit is cool, and I always enjoy the line-toeing of whether we should be considering these produce characters as plant or animal.

If you actually read this all the way through; Congratulations and I’m so sorry! And I know there’s a lot of songs I haven’t listened to and my defense is that I’ve only seen like a fourth of the VT catalogue.
