I randomly got a pokemon hyperfix so welcome to my: prsk characters and their favorite pokemon (or the one most like them in my opinion based solely on designs bc i like them), most of these are the ones i see them having as a first pokemon (i mean, the evolved ones probably got the first version but yknow)

In other words

Kin typing prsk characters as pokemon (chaos edition)

I started with niigo since Mizuki and Sylveon is what started all of this idea.

Ok i know i said "the ones i see them having as a first pokemon" and Meloetta is a mythical but if you playing as a 10yo can catch one so can Kanade fuck it.

You guys have no idea how happy I was when seeing dog pokemon for An i found out that the one that felt like shed use the most was blue in the shiny.

Also, fun fact, im putting these in the order that im thinking of them in.

THESE WERE THE HARDEST TO FIT DUE TO EMPOLEON AND NINETALES BEING A BIT BIGGER, also bc they're jumping and i have less size notion with them in the fuckinf air.

Also, first one I didn't feel the need for a shiny, the designs fit easily without a change of colors.

And to finish it off, i needed help with Rui and Tsukasa from professionals (wxs fans that are also old ass pokemon fans, my hyperfixation literally started 3 days ago), also, in my head, Nene has a shiny Golett, which has green lines instead of yellow, but i didnt see any model to use so oof.

giving pokemon teams to d20 characters!

The Unsleeping City S1 & S2

pt 2/?

part 1 || part 2

second verse same as the first, check out part one for my guidelines on how i made the teams! short version is only 4 pokemon per team, no repeats, and little to no shinies or legendaries

fun fact the unsleeping city was actually the first season i thought of pokemon for, and why i started to make teams in the first place!

i also like unsleeping city a uhhh a lot less than fantasy high so my fantasy high picks (part 1) are a lot more thought out and maybe cooler than these picks but hey i'm still happy with these!

oh also unsleeping ch. 1 and 2 spoilers ahead of course :]

Sophia

Purugly - symbolizing La Gran Gata! also it just feels like Sophia would have this pokemon it fits her Vibe

Furfrou (Heart Trim) - she is a hair stylist!! of course she would have the hair stylized dog!!! she mainly keeps her as the heart trim but it doesnt 100 percent always stay that way

Mienshao - cool and cute monk pokemon for obvious reasons lol

Raticate - represents kugrash after he dies(?). shockingly the raticate and purugly get along well, and are actually pretty nice with each other

Ricky

Boltund - there’s no dalmatian pokemon (which there should be maybe) so this is the closest i got to representing Ox! boltunds are VERY fast though so it still works lol

Blastoise - what better pokemon to have as a fireman than a giant water tank? probably got a squirtle when he was young and it evolved as he grew up :]

Kleavor - represents the fireman ax he carried

Machamp - Ricky is all about exercise so naturally i gave him the super buff pokemon. they probably train together and like do pushups or whatever fit people do

Kingston

Dachsbun - representing both the dog he gets in season 2 along with bagels in general, which seems to be a symbol for him (see the vox populi pin)

Drampa - similar to how i imagine the dragon of bleaker’s street would look, it also just feels like an old man of a pokemon (which kingston is)

Blissey - i like to imagine doctors/nurses get blisseys once they like are hired in healthcare to help their trainers with the patients (and also blisseys are absolute TANKS in terms of defense)

Magnezone - Kingston did that cool tech shutdown/takeover thing in one of the season one battles at the stock market and i thought that was cool. and also it fits because Vibes

Misty / Rowan

Gardevoir - a beautiful pokemon that always looks youthful, just like Rowan

Primarina - a singing pokemon that wouldve helped Misty practice her singing for plays

Meloetta - same reason, a singing pokemon lol

Scream Tail - rather than a standard Jigglypuff i would like to imagine an ancient thousand year old one was much more interesting! it also ties to Rowan's reincarnation thing she has goin' on

Iga

Goodra - a dragon to represent the storybook dragon inside of the chest she has! i didn’t do charizard because i saved that one for a future season team (take a guess who)

Gimmighoul - a chest pokemon because. she. she has a chest thats very important to her. yeah!!!

Perrserker - pure vibes i just feel she would have this pokemon lol

Hatterene - also mostly vibes, she Is a psychic so it works but yeah she gets a hatterene because i say so

Kugrash

Rapidash (Galarian) - unicorn totem

Unfezant (Male) - spicy pigeon totem

Ladyba - juicy cockroach totem (i didn’t do kricketune because i want to use it for a later team. can you again guess who)

Arceus - our first true legendary! kugrash literally becomes omnipotent so you know what he can have pokemon god on his team

Cody

Aegislash (Shiny) - it’s literally The sword pokemon of course Cody would have one. it’s shiny because if he spent a long time growing his real sword collection he can spend a long time finding a shiny. also it’s black and red like Thirsting Blade Dark Excalibur Mega Genesis

Grimmsnarl - the most emo pokemon ive ever seen so of course Cody gets it. as a treat

Houndoom - “but aloe why didn’t you give this to Fig?!” shshhhshshhhh. listen my sweet child. houndoom is for the emo boys. which Cody is. and also also it parallels the other paladin on the team, Ricky, and his dog pokemon, Boltund. does that make sense….

Corviknight - emo pokemon #3 on the team. also knight means sword so in a roundabout way it’s another sword related pokemon

Pete

Polteageist - Pete has a teapot in his official art and while yes. it is blue and so is the non-shiny form i think purple in general fits Pete a LOT more than blue so here we are lol

Musharna - literally the dream pokemon this was an easy peasy pick and very obvious

Hypno - another dream-like pokemon but much more scary to maybe represent a sort of nightmare compared to the sweeter dreams from Musharna

Vivillion (Garden Pattern) - representing Luna his green butterfly familiar! i feel like everyone (including the PCs) forget Luna exists and it makes me a little sad :(

Thinking about jrwi bitb but in the pokemon universe. Long post ahead.

Rand was basically the player’s rival. The player was basically Rachel. It was very much just fun sibling rivarly thing and Rand definitely knew Rachel was a better trainer than him but didn’t really mind because he just had fun travelling with his pokemon and seeing his little sister grow as a person and stuff.

But then Rachel disappeared. And Rand completely gave up on all of his aspirations and went back home because nothing really mattered anymore. He still has his (fully evolved very powerful) team but never battles with them. His team consists of an original dog pokemon I created based on Rand, delphox (his starter), galarian ponyta (i wanted him to have a fantasy theme for his pokemon because dnd), ribombee (a pokemon rachel gave to him in a trade, not sure what he gave her in return), hydreigon (the last pokemon he caught before Rachel disappeared) and because I wanted them all to have legendaries/mythicals/etc: ogrepon (mostly for the fantasy theme but also i just love her and think she kinda fits with her sad backstory)

Kian really wanted to become a contest star, and tried for it basically his entire youth but it just never went anywhere. I’m not sure what he’s doing these days honestly, maybe he’s just given up and just keeps his old team as pets now because he loves them. A lot. Maybe in an ideal world he would run a pokemon daycare or something I think that would be cute

His team was basically built for contests and performing and consists of an original butterfly pokemon I created for Kian (cuteness, singing and dancing), milotic (beauty, of course, doesn’t really do much in terms of actually performing but is very pretty), lilligant (clever, main dancer propbably), toxtricity high-key (coolness, i. I know its a pokemon but i imagine it having a guitar), kricketune (pov me desperately looking for pokemon that learn a lot of good tough moves that fit kian’s vibes, also, of course just its music thing) and for mythical: meloetta. Of course.

Rolan did like a bit of battling when he was younger but never really tried anything with it. He still has pokemon but they’re all either from his youth that he just doesn’t have the heart to release or give away or pokemon that simply appeared in his life. He’s literally just a normal lawyer in the pokemon universe

His team consists of an original shark pokemon i made for him, a psyduck that’s technically not even his like he never caught it it just follows him around, a pidove he accidentally threw a ball at and now can’t bear to give away (he named it after rand because it reminded him of him), an applin that he traded from Kian when they were younger (he gave Kian his feebas) ((also. If you know you know. Rolan does not know)), a dudunsparce he just caught as a kid and still has (i needed him to have at least one pokemon from larry’s team because c’mon they are the same person), and a pheramosa. He does not remember how he got this pheramosa. He just woke up one day and had it. It scares him a little.

Also, other characters:

Rachel was basically the player until she disappeared

Donna is the typical mom in pokemon

Becky’s a gym leader I think! Or maybe even an elite four member

Mr Dickman is the professor. He gave all three of them pokedexes and stuff but only gave a starter to Rand because the other two had gotten their first pokemon by then (Kian just like caught his first and Rolan got his from his parents as like a gift) so he didn’t need to give them pokemon

art fight is soon and i havent done a Single new oc ref since last year

in case you want info on them

esen is the leader of the three-person party of her, dayn and florian after they split from their original parties, since they worked best together. she helps to document heartless behavior and how to fight them and gives that info to the rest of the vulpes union. she's curious to a fault and often gets distracted trying to research new heartless while literally in the middle of fighting them. lives in the lighthouse and sails keykids to the island. sometimes sells her drawings at florian's fruit and veg shop.

chip used to be a very shy kid, until he went on his pokemon journey and learned to come out of his shell. he became a gym leader in the starting town because he knows how scary starting a journey can be and wants to support new trainers. he is the definition of a handholdy tutorial, like if you dont bring a flying type before his battle he'll ask if you want to catch one, before being told off by his sister cassidy for being too coddling and starting the battle anyway. as a surprise he's also the champion of the region, excited to see how you've grown over your journey and fighting you full force.

cassidy is one of the lead developers for tms in the entire world. she's the one who gives you access to the tm crafting service and often appears to check on your progress and give you new tms. since she makes tms she researches pokemon moves; she's the fifth gym leader, part of her gym gimmick is that her pokemon all know torment, to force challengers to show her a variety of moves (and also stop flamethrower spammers she's so sick of this)

kalin is a ballet dancer, inspired by tales of meloetta and the red shoes it lost that fae heard as a kid. fae's mischievous, faer entire gym is designed to scare people. challengers are not told who the gym leader is or what they look like. doors lock behind you and you have to find hiding klefki to pass, a seemingly headless trainer chases you (turns out to be a disguised theatrigus, one of my fakemon), and at the very end theres a hall of portraits of the so far unnamed gym leader dating back to up to 100 years ago, however they seem to not age in any of them. the first pokemon kalin sends in is actually a zoroark to tip the player off that illusions were used to make the gym scarier. after beating the gym, kalin reveals that the gym has been passed down in faer family for years, all to keep the joke going and make it seem like the gym leader is immortal, a real faerie. kalin tells you faer real name and makes you promise not to reveal the gym's secrets. also yes i made a fairy gym leader just to give faer fae/faer pronouns the joke was too easy

not as much to lichen as the others haha. works at reid's coffee shop (another oc i have to fix the ref for but not as much motivation for xem as these other ones), sometimes runs a little arts and crafts event for kids in the shop. loves halloween and horror, outfit always has some kind of bat motif on it. might look scary but is genuinely sweet.

I pretty much talked this out with some friends and so I think I'm somewhat confident to share my ideas on Zenith, the infernal cult + the pokerus plotline.

Zenith and the infernal cult.

So. Zenith. Hos backstory is pretty much this. He was alive during the roaring 20's. The infernal cult I feel was at a very low point at that time- little members, even smaller success with their respective legendaries. So the best way to keep things afloat and still do what they need to do, Zenith got himself a music career. And within that music career he meets his fated rival, the chosen one of meloetta. Their rivarly did not just end with the stage, oh no, it was within their respective roles of Cultist and Chosen one. Their final confrontation was both of their ends. The meloetta chosen one's soul found her way to the timeless cave, whereas Zenith found himself falling to hell itself. And he would have stayed there.....if he wasn't for Nyx. Nyx came to him with a deal. She will give him back his life, with the power to control others with his voice as the meloetta chosen did before him, and with immortality. In exchange, he will aid her in her goals. What exactly she never specified. All she said was that she needed the crystal and Zenith could be one of her kings. Naturally, Zenith took it, no questions asked.

And so, Zenith crawled out of hell, back to life and better than ever. I am debating if I'm going to make him some vampire-demon: needing blood to sustain himself. But I'm not sure. He is definitely a demon for flare though. Not literally, but you get it. Anyway bc of his immorality, the guy has. A lot of alter egos to hide his true self. In the main game his main facades are his pop star self and his librarian self. His powers aren't suuuuuuper powerful I should add. It's more so he has mild suggestion powers, but his natural charisma and talent pretty much makes things super easy for him. Once he gets a crystal shard, however, his powers are much much more powerful, hence the mind control plot.

Pokerus

A shorter explanation of what I have in mind. Essentially, unlike in canon where Damian is made like an idiot when he gets taken, he doesn't leave the room at all, despite him being squeamish. What does happen, though, was that Malde immediately saw Damian as a threat, given shaymin's ability to purify anything. To Malde, he was already perfect and just needed more people to be like him. Damian, of everyone in that room, was a threat to that. Damian himself thinks he can at least try to purify Malde but it ends in failure, with Damian catching Pokerus and thus being in its control.

And.....yeah! That's the idea so far!

kris - HUUUUGE rpg guy kingdome hearts strongest soldier. also plays rhythm games because. miku.

dawn - also loves horror shit. knows the most obscure horror schlock imaginable. probably made an eight hour video on fnaf lore

hilbert - fighting games, battle sims, or anything competitive in general

hilda - too busy on that comp battle grind to game🔥 she does play some battle sims occasionally if the battle subway is closed or she wants to battle online

bianca - the sims and animal crossing and harvest moon and stuff like that. also rhythm games because meloetta

rosa - she likes anything she can find. her parents wouldn't let her play video games as a kid because they were "too violent" so now she happily eats up and slop she can find a rom for. loves gta just to spite her parents

nate - okay so fortnite doesn't exist yet in bw2 but. fortnite. also cod i guess. he's that type of gamer

hugh - REALLY salty fighting game player. also animal crossing

shauna - she usually plays more casual games like rhythm games or farm/life sims but she is surprisingly really into metroid. (she has a crush on samus (gee i wonder what her taste in women is))

gladion - unironicly shadow the hedgehog 2005. he thinks shadow is just like him fr

lillie - her mom didn't let her play that many games when she was little but she LOVES playing mario galaxy with selene. also she plays animal crossing with selene and acerolla real

gloria - loz twilight princess. there's a funny wolf and swords of course she likes it

victor - he's a kirby fan but one of those kirby fans who INSIST that kirby is actually super dark and not for kids

hop - loz botw. him and gloria argue which zelda game is better

marnie - i think she likes cool stylistic indie stuff like rpg maker games, utdr, ect. she doesn't like overly corporate lifeless feeling games like new super mario. she really likes the world ends with you she'd think the style of that game kicks ass

florian - he likes a lot of games actually!! he wants to be a game developer when he's older so he loves learning about game design and how games are made.

nemona - battle sims, fighting games, action games, ect she likes high action stuff!! she'd be a god at dmc i think

arven - he only has his childhood ds that's on life support. yes he does have cooking mama

penny - rhythm games, jrpgs, rpg maker, fighting games, ect ect she plays a LOT of stuff. also unfortunately plays gacha games. me and her are both in miku gacha hell i think

carmine and kieran - they just have their grandparents old ass wii but dead god can have the most insane round of mario kart they have ever seen

Whatever happened to Waning Moon!Faba?

Part of me likes to think the Voices never recovered [from the Faba battle in Waning Moon] either so when we have bouts of noisemakers and funny music replacement, it's a lingering side effect from when we took a hit to save Devin and it made us a bit more sensitive to these influences. Sometimes it's an outside force (like Meloetta) sometimes it's just the Voices have some level of reality warping and will randomly play music for the current host going "Gee, I'm glad SOMEONE is having fun. Mutter mutter, I was not born a loser, jerks"

I love my headcanon that Faba is Ein in disguise and he's been using his job at Aether to cover for continuing his unethical bio-research

For my lore, S3 Faba is literally the worst. Which is saying something. Especially when we have people like the above.

It's toned down as the generations have passed which is still saying something that I'm sure Ace has gotten an earful from his dad going "Oh if you knew how lucky you have it. MY FATHER..."

But yes the tl;dr timeline for original Faba for me goes

One of Oak's assistants with Ceth in Channel

Ein in Colosseum, quietly steps out when things go awry

Faba in Sun, still manipulating Lusamine as a dear old friend (and probably helped raise her when he worked for her father)

Hijacks things a bit to take the Aether to the "real world" where Nigel can't follow.

Waning Moon events where he's determined no one is going to stop them this time with Quips getting "killed" (he didn't know the kid survived) and laying multiple other traps for the new kid all while getting an indepth study on the Voices during his travels.

Not as upset as he pretends when this fails, he's been forming contacts in Unova for a backup plan

Helps Cipher take over Unova seemingly disappears during the 30way War of Randomized White 2. Likely killed but hard to say who or what got him during the chaos

He may be gone but his family still thrives in the shadows.

This being RW2 it could have been any number of things -- heck, he's mostly lived in warmer climates, he could've just frozen solid when the whole Kyurem thing happened and is now an icicle

Some people get possessed by Voices, others by Glitches, some just get outright physically warped (like in the Darkrai movie) due to perceptions and nightmare fuel....

Has many butterfly Pokémon like Butterfree, Vivillion and Frosmoth

Her gym is very similar to Casita but with many more purple accents

The gym is quite dark so you have to use a Litwick to make your way to Abuela

Julieta

Kitchen themed gym!

Many splashes on the ground means you have no control over where you slide to so you have to be careful

Watch out for greedy Munchlax

Julieta has caring Pokémon like Chancey but her ace is a GMax Alcremie

Very light and airy gym

Agustín

He may be accident prone, so expect his gym to have a lot go wrong when you're in it

Plenty of mini challenges but they are made harder by the Beedrill and Vespiquens

Agustín's partner Pokémon (not his ace) is a happy little Combee

Luisa

A very physically demanding gym

Lots of lifting and climbing

Would need your HM slave here or at least a Pokémon that knows Strength

Plenty of Mudbray you need to help move as well as rerouting rivers

Luisa's ace is a Mudbray, if you come back for a rematch, that Mudbray has evolved into Mudsdale

Isabela

What else would you expect from Isa? It's a gym with loads of flora

Quite a chaotic gym- think snakes and ladders but with vines and trees instead

There may be flowers that block your way, some that you have to be careful with, they may be carniverous

Isabela's Pokémon include a Meganium, Comfey and Maractus

Mirabel

Who wouldn't love a gym with threads and sewing supplies galore?

Plenty of embroidery all over the place that represents every member of her family

Her Pokémon may not seem special (at first) but they are some of the most beloved. They include Bidoof and Eevee

She also has a Beautifly and a Litwick

Pepa

It has to be a weather themed gym here

Answer questions and depending on your answer you may get a change in weather that may make your gym challenge harder

A lot of yellow in this gym but it also doesn't have a roof so you can fully experience all the weather

Pepa's partner Pokémon is obviously a Castform but her ace is the literal cloud Altaria. She also has a Morpeko that represents her changing moods

Felix

This gym is nothing more than a huge dancefloor

You better have good moves as even before your battle you will be challenged to a dance off

For no reason at all, Felix is able to sweep your team... With a furret (if the right song is playing!)

Dolores

A sound gym- try and be as quiet as you can

There are many patches of tall grass that sound quite loud when you step into them

When you make too much noise, you will have to face one of the countless Whismur in the gym

Dolores doesn't have a Whismur herself as she is worried that a lot of training will make it evolve. Instead, she has an Audino, Meloetta and Chatot

Camilo

Master of disguises, Camilo wants you to show him what you've got

Before you enter, you have to choose a costume to wear, which you will have to change throughout your gym challenge

Gym is basically a huge mirror maze with wardrobes and boxes dotted around the place

Camilo has quite a few sneaky Pokémon on his side. They include, Zoroark and Kecleon. However, his wildcard is his ace, a very skilled Ditto

Antonio

Antonio loves all Pokémon so welcome to his gym, where you will see all sorts of Pokemon

These Pokémon are very friendly and will not attack you unless they are prompted to by their trainers who are hiding all over the place

Be careful about sneak attacks

Antonio's favourite Pokémon that just HAD to be on his team include a Toucannon and Liepard.

He has also been given a Rockruff by his family because they think it is just as cute as Antonio

Bruno

Super sandy gym, also a very closed maze, just like the walls of the Casita

Try not to step or touch any cracks

Plenty of friendly Rattata running around the place, don't worry about them, they are very well trained

Of course Bruno has a Rattata on his team

He also has an Absol, for obvious reasons and a Musharna that "sees your dreams" but definitely doesn't feast on your screams

Bruno's secret weapon lies in a Darkrai

hello~! i'm trying to learn programming and heard that cass is self taught. that's such an inspiration and i would love to hear about her journey(and any tips) if she's willing to share! thank you all for making such an inspiring game!

ok so let me tell you a story. (you can skip to the bottom if you just want the tips.)

it was the year 2014 and i was visiting a college. one of the events of the day was a department fair where some professor would tell you all about what their department does. so i went up to the chair of the computer science department and said "hey, so, I think computers are neat, but I hate to code. do y'all have anything for that?"

man, those were the days.

fast forward to 2019. i didn't go into computer science. i still hate coding. however, i'm also now on the development team for this fucking video game. i believe it's called, uh, punkymen "james" reborn. this video game runs on an engine called essentials. many of you haven't heard of this "essentials" before (especially from me), but this engine has a reputation for being- and this is a technical term, just stay with me- "bad". it's okay if you're unfamiliar with the term "bad"- you'll become very familiar with it and its association to the aforementioned engine very soon. now i'm still just a lowly text file editor (a term used by assholes who code to describe people who don't code) making a whole bunch of battle content for postgame (wow e19 has been in development for literally ever). i had made the theme teams and had moved onto battle tower sets. i looked into the text files (lol imagine looking at TEXT files) to see what the base sets were and saw. things. horrible things. awful things. things that no one should ever have to see. brightpowder mons? focus band? quick claw? c'mon no one wants to fight that. and they topped out at gen 3! gen 3 wasn't even real c'mon now. so i was like "okay. i gotta redo all these." so i did! but then i got to a pokemon called "deoxys". now you might be thinking "hey, wasn't that still gen 3?" and you're right! but deoxys was banned. (imagine getting a legendary mon and never being able to use it. don't worry we fixed that*.) i'm going through these pokemon alphabetically, and deoxys was the first pokemon to have different forms! (*for most of them. the really strong ones are still banned. sorry kids.) the text files (i know they're so 16th century but stay with me here) don't allow you to change those! they also don't allow you to change abilities. now that i think about it, that was probably the real reason for what i'm about to say. which is that i went into the code to fix it! so i dug into the scripts. (i'm going to take a quick break to say that no one should ever ever ever use the script editor in rmxp. it's really bad. technology has come a long way since dinosaurs roamed the earth. in fact, just don't use rmxp. it's really bad. anyway *coughs) so this wasn't technically my first foray into coding- i took an online c++ class sophomore year of high school (which was online, so it didn't count) and i took ap computer science my senior year (the teacher didn't know anything about computer science, which meant it was self taught, and yeah uh-huh i definitely did all the homework and worked very hard in that class and did not just fuck off to the library every day to play civilization or some shit)- but it was definitely my first real foray. it ended up not being too complicated- i figured out what lines read the text file and just added a few extra parameters to them. it was enough for it to legally count as coding. i had also offered to fix some bugs. my first bug to fix was related to meloetta transforming in battle (ironically, something that i ended up removing entirely later). i didn't fix it. battle code too complicated. didn't wanna. back to text files thanksbye (somewhere in here i did a little more coding in grad school. it was kinda unnotable and got derailed by this "corona" thing you may have heard about. it was in c++ and was frustrating.)

so i mentioned that rmxp was bad and essentials was bad. one way that this manifested was that the game was really slow. i mean really slow. rmxp was an engine made in 2003. essentials was a scriptset made out of silly string. if you managed to get it to run smoothly then, well, you were probably lying. it ran like shit for everyone on every computer. i fuckin hated that. so two things happened. first was that i dug up an engine called mkxp and it made the game run a bit better. still not great! but better. then someone by the name of perrence dropped into ame's patreon server (hello did you know that ame has a patreon? you probably don't because she never talks about it, but this is MY post and IM talking about it and it's right here) and was like "hey this game is really slow and i have a thing called a profiler that will tell you where it's slow". oh man. this was, like, my calling. my sworn duty. my mission. i went apeshit on those scripts. i am not going to go into detail about what i did, since you can read about it on the dev blog. this post is about me. and not only did i go apeshit on those scripts, i googled the fuck out of them, too. my optimization binge was really a perfect storm of factors: i was very highly motivated, had a script with lots of inefficiencies to experiment on, and had a shitload of free time because it was summer during a pandemic. i think i spent 70-80 hours a week for, like, a month or two, just tinkering around with the scripts. anything i wasn't familiar with (which was really a fair amount of stuff) i looked up online. i tried tons of different ways to improve the code until i got tired of the specific issue i was working on and moved on. this whole experience was important because 1.) it made me realize that, hey, maybe i'm not too bad at coding! and 2.) i really like writing clean, pretty, efficient code. so that was really what got me started. i've done a lot since then! the original optimization blitz wa- oh my god it was two years ago what the fuck-- sorry, sorry. i'm ok. whew. the original optimization blitz was (*breathes) two years ago, and it made me comfortable enough with the scripts that whenever i found an issue that annoyed the hell out of me, i could just get rid of it. and i've done that a lot since then! (there'll be another coding post soon, trust)

i, uh, it's been almost an hour and a half.

oops!

so i'll just put in a few general tips:

- coding classes suck and you shouldn't take them (or, at least, nothing beyond the basics) anything you can learn about coding from a class you can learn on the internet. there are tons of tutorials online for general knowledge. even beyond that, if you have a more niche/specific question (hey is there a speed difference between a case statement and a conditional) there's probably a bunch of other people who have also wondered that and one one of them has almost certainly done so on a message board. there's lots of information out there if you're searching for it. which...

- coding class assignments suck and you should avoid them there is not a single person in the universe who has gotten passionate about homework. the only exception to this is when an assignment goes beyond just being homework. part of why i got so into my work was because it wasn't just work- my efforts resulted in a meaningful difference that i could visibly see (granted, i was seeing it in an FPS counter, but that's not nothing!). if you can find something that you can tinker around with and have an enjoyable time doing so, it'll be far better for you than a stupid c++ class. which...

- c++ sucks and you should avoid it ok this isn't actually that true, i'm just sticking to the format. there are a lot of coding languages. they all have their quirks and specific syntax and different uses, but they all follow the same fundamental rules: all you do with code is use logic to mess with data on a computer. that's basically all it comes down to! you tell a computer "hey, this thing does this, and that thing does that, and if this thing is equal to some other thing it should do something else" and you've coded. so find a coding language that you like. i don't like c++! it has a lot of rigid syntax rules and isn't very flexible. low-level coding languages are like that. ruby is great. i like ruby. you can make some really pretty code with ruby. coding in ruby is a little more like writing prose, where coding in c++ is like writing an instruction manual. high-level languages like that are much more pleasant.

one last thing.

- watch out for assholes! so i don't know what gives, but there are a lot of people in this business with really big egos. this is incredibly anecdotal, but i have a running theory that coding classes teach you that there is a "right" way and a "wrong" way to code and, as a result, there are a lot of comp sci majors with their heads up their asses. there was actually a guy who made fun of someone because "real developers" coded and he just edited text files! please never be like that. there was another guy who dropped into my comment section to chadsplain* how to program to me. that guy is still probably off running relic castle, too. coding's more of an art than a science, and "good code" isn't really a thing. obviously i really care about pretty, optimized code, but the thing about code is that most people aren't going to see it anyway. *chadsplain (v.) an explanation given under the assumption of the superiority of the person offering the explanation.

fuck it's been another half hour. i'm just bitching about people at this point anyway, so i'm going to do everyone a favor and cut myself off.

tldr: find a project you like, in a language you like, and google things you don't know. that's all i did.

You'd better fucking BELIEVE we have a plot set up, I have poured so much effort into the Pokemon au

Okay, so: when it comes to teams, I decided that everyone should have at least one legendary Pokemon in their party as a way to be faithful to the ace monster concept, but it wasn’t until much later into the au that I realized I’d failed to do that with Sora’s team, which led to a very fun plot point involving his secret 7th Pokemon he keeps in his box

Teams under the cut because it’s gonna be a long one, boys

Yuya has: Groudon, Sandshrew, Popplio, Hippopotas, Aipom, and Ekans

In his box, he’s got Phanphy, Charmander, Politoad, Ducklett, Liepard, Skorupi, and Lycanroc (Midnight form)

I wanted him to have as many Pokemon as he could that reminded me of the monsters in his deck, and since Yuya is a coordinator in this au instead of a regular trainer, it just felt right that he’d have a lot of different partners he could swap out for various contests

Also I’m mad that there isn’t a legendary dragon that looks like Odd Eyes, so I had to give Yuya Groudon instead, making him the only Yu boy in this au to not have a legendary dragon type Pokemon

Yuto has: Eternatus, Bisharp, Aegislash, Aggron, Lucario, and Shadow Rider Calyrex

Okay listen, I know I was supposed to only give everyone One legendary Pokemon, but with Calyrex I feel justified because it looks So Much like it could be one of Yuto’s Phantom Knights, I mean

Yuto gets to have two legendaries to make up for Arc-V killing him off so early into the show

Aside from this guy, the rest of Yuto’s team just felt like it should be comprised of steel types ow the edge so that’s what I gave him. His Pokemon are as edgy as he tries to appear to be and that is enough to amuse me.

There also weren’t exactly many good Pokemon equivalents of his archetype, so I made do with what I had.

Yugo has: Latios, Scizor, Claydol, Porygon 2, Ponyta (Shiny), and Sudowoodo

Yugo was honestly so hard to come up with a team for because all his Speedroid cards are just like... toys and stuff for the most part, so I agonized over what I should pick for him for a Long time. In the end, I feel like I got close enough to his general aesthetic with the Pokemon I picked.

(His Ponyta is there because of Speedroid Horse Stilts, and while it is a shiny, the dumbass has no idea about it, and thinks he just happened to get a special blue horse that was born a little differently- he never claimed to be smart.)

He also deadass thought Sudowoodo was a grass type for the longest time. Rin had to be the one to tell him it wasn’t.

“Yugo. Sudowoodo? It sounds like pseudo? As in fake wood?”

“Ohhhhh is that what its name means? Wow Rin you’re so smart.”

No Yugo you’re just exceptionally stupid.

Yuri has: Naganadel, Seviper, Victreebel, Toxicroak, Vileplume, and Roserade

For the most toxic of battlers, I felt it only necessary to give Yuri an all poison type team. I included an even mix of plants in there to tie into his Predaplant deck, Seviper for the snake eye vibes, and Toxicroak... just feels right, you know. I couldn’t find any other poison plant themed Pokemon that seemed like they’d fit his vibe, so he gets a poison frog instead.

Yuzu has: Meloetta, Sylveon, Meowstic (Female), Gardevoir, Florges, and Jigglypuff

I tried to stick with Pokemon that had very feminine vibes for Yuzu, since her deck is comprised of pretty singing ladies, so Meloetta and Jigglypuff in particular feel very fitting in that regard.

Serena has: Cresselia, Delcatty, Glameow, Lopunny, Persian, and Pyroar (Female)

The moon vibes with Cresselia felt perfect for Serena, and as for the rest of her team, all cats and a bunny to pay homage to her Lunalight deck ^^

Rin has: Celesteela, Mismagius, Hatterene, Glaceon, Froslass, and Chimecho

Her team vibes with the witch part of her Wind Witch deck, at least for Mismagius and Hatterene. Glaceon, Froslass, and Chimecho are there due to the etymology of her name, where possible meanings of it include “cold” and “bell”, which I thought was pretty cool, no pun intended.

Ruri has: Galarian Articuno, Pidgeot, Noctowl, Chatot, Altaria, and Unfezant (Male)

Some softer birds for the soft bird girl, for the most part. I liked the thought of her team being all birds like her Lyriluscs, and just... yeah. They’re all very friendly birds that Ruri’s bonded pretty closely with. Also I made sure she had Galarian Articuno for no reason other than it is purple like her, and I think that’s all the reason I need.

Gong has: Kartana, Machoke, Samurott, Golisopod, Hariyama, and Conkeldurr

Gong was really easy to assign a team to- just had to find as many samurai themed Pokemon as possible, and fill in the rest with really strong fighting types, like Machoke, Hariyama, and Conkeldurr.

Shingo has: Type: Null, Dusclops, Misdreavus, Spiritomb, Decidueye, and Cramorant

With Shingo, I tried to go for Pokemon that had the same vibes as some of his Abyss Actors, and I think Dusclops is the best example of this. Tbh I am very proud of giving him a Type: Null because Type: Null is an amalgamation of other Pokemon, something that was created in a lab to be a fighting machine. There’s nothing natural about Type: Null, and it’s kind of terrifying to Yuya specifically, who’s always viewed Pokemon as creatures to befriend. This experiment created purely to kill... unnerves him, and serves as a very good foil to his beliefs when it comes to Pokemon.

And they were narrative foils

On a sillier note, I chose Cramorant purely because of this quote from its bulbapedia page: “Cramorant are also rather unintelligent as they can't remember which Pokémon they fight in mid battle, but never forget Trainers that they trust. However, they try to attack their Trainers if they steal food from them.”

I just thought the idea of Shingo having this dumb bird that occasionally pecks at him over food would be funny tbh, gotta dunk on the rival at least a little bit.

Sora has: Banette, Vanillish, Swirlix, Stufful, Litleo, and Buneary

In his box, he has a Guzzlord

I feel like Sora’s team is very straightforward, as it’s a mix of sweets themed Pokemon, and Pokemon that represent monsters in his deck- Stufful for Flufflal Bear, Litleo for Fluffal Leo, and Buneary for Fluffal Rabbit. Guzzlord... is relevant later on in the plot after shit goes down, that’s all I’ll say for now.

Masumi has: Diancie, Sableye, Corsola, Aurorus, Tyranitar, and Lycanroc (Dusk form)

Gem Knight girl deserved to have a bunch of good rock type Pokemon, and Diancie is like. The best possible legendary I could have given someone like her lol, the crystal aesthetic is just perfect for her. Not much to say here honestly, I just really vibed with these specific rock types and thought they’d make a good team for her.

Yaiba has: Zeraora, Kecleon, Pangoro, Scyther, Purugly, and Stantler

So I actually threw this list together just now because I realized Masumi was the only member of her trio to have a full team, and that just wasn’t right. I tried to base this team off the XX-Sabers as well I could, but it was a little hard with how many humanoid cards Yaiba has. With his legendary, I actually chose it based off this monster right here!

I think they’ve got similar enough vibes aesthetically for Zeraora to fit him. Scyther is based on Emmersblade, Kecleon on Ragigura, Stantler on Garsem, Purugly on Gardestrike, and Pangoro... Honestly, it just makes me think of Yaiba himself when I look at him. I think they’d get along well.

Hokuto has: Deoxys, Espeon, Grumpig, Starmie, Lunatone, and Malamar

Psychic type Pokemon just sort of felt right for him to have, considering that his deck is based on constellations and has an overall space theme to it. Not sure why that translates over to psychic in my brain, but you know what, it looks right, I love this team for him, and I’m not gonna question it.

I especially think Deoxys makes a good legendary for him considering it is literally a space alien, and Hokuto’s whole thing is space, so yeah, he gets to have the space alien.

Shun has: Galarian Moltres, Skarmory, Fearow, Dodrio, Staraptor, and Talonflame

Pretty straightforward team I feel- it’s all birds of prey for the Raid Raptor boy, and I just thought the Galarian version of Moltres was neat. Makes me think of his Blaze Falcon since they’re both black and red.

Dennis has: Hoopa, Mr. Mime, Delphox, Zoroark, Alakazam, and Hawlucha

Hoopa seemed like a very good legendary for Dennis to have, given his deck archetype and all, he just kind of looks like a little circus dude. Its unbound form makes me think about the swap Dennis has when it gets revealed that he’s actually been a double agent the whole time, and the play gloves finally come off.

The rest of his team... I feel like they speak for themselves. I tried to give him Pokemon that matched up with his deck archetype, so there’s Delphox to rep the fire themed monsters, Mr. Mime because it just fits Dennis’ general personality- and I love the thought of those two being friends and just copying each other’s theatric poses. Chaotic dynamic duo.

(Also: Zoroark's ability letting it disguise itself as another Pokemon is just another parallel to Dennis pretending to be one of the good guys at first, and I love it)

Shinji has: Buzzwole, Beedrill, Vespiquen, Ribombee, Kricketune, and Leavanny

I tried to give the bee man all the bees I could, but there are only so many bee Pokemon out there 😔 I knew the rest of his team had to be insect types to make up for it, so I picked Kricketune because he is just... a friend... a musical buddy who definitely gets along well with the kids. Leavanny is just a bug mom who also helps patch up the kids’ clothing when they get tears in them, which I just love the idea of. Sweet bug mom whose dex entry talks about how they sew for other Pokemon looks after her trainer’s kids when she’s not battling.

Throwback to the Smash Bros mains lmao

Crow has: Murkrow, Braviary, Starly, Swellow, Pikipek, and Corviknight

Bunch of birds for my Blackwing user... This team was partially picked out by June, and it was mostly meant for the Other Pokemon au, but I don’t really see a reason to change his team here. Crow is the one person without a legendary on his team, which makes me sad, but there really isn’t a legendary bird out there that fits his vibes, so as much as I wanna give him a legendary, he will have to make do without one. Sorry Crow.

Hoo... that’s finally all the teams down. Now I can talk about the plot! So, as I briefly mentioned in a previous post (I think), this particular au is inspired by Pokemon Diamond/Pearl/Platinum! It’s the era where contests really became a big thing, which is perfect for a lot of these characters because it’s easy to translate dueltaining over to coordinating in this world. Much like in canon, Yuya aspires to be as great a coordinator as his dad was, and strives to entertain people the way Yusho could. He’s not much for battling, and far prefers getting to show off his Pokemon’s talents in contests than anything.

Academia is going to play the role of Team Galactic in this au, which is incredibly fitting with their mission in canon: to remake the universe in their leader’s image. In this case, with Leo Akaba taking on the role of Cyrus, his intent is, presumably, to either destroy the universe that took his daughter from him, or create a new one where she can live once again, no matter the cost.

Sora being a key member in Team Galactic is a very big part of the plot in this au: his mission was to capture one of the lake legendaries, Uxie, since Leo needed all three of them for his plan to remake the universe, but things don’t exactly go well for him, and he ends up losing his battle against Uxie, resulting in all of his memories being locked away, and essentially making him a blank slate.

Side note: the Galactic grunt haircut reminds me a lot of Sora, I mean just look at it

Practically same bangs as him, just add an upturned ponytail and you’ve got my son.

This post is getting very long... but I will add one last plot related thing to it before I go: Uxie can erase memories, Mesprit can erase emotions, and Azelf can erase willpower. All three of these lake legendaries play a very important role in the plot, due to being the keys to Leo Akaba’s plans to remake the universe. Sora was touched by Uxie, effectively doing away with all memory he has of being in Team Galactic. Yuya ends up touched by Mesprit in an attempt to save them, and subsequently loses his emotions as a result. Riley?

Riley had been affected by all three of them before the plot began, which is why she is the way she’d been in Arc-V: Emotionless, unable to remember anything about her past except for those brief, fleeting flashes of memory when put into certain situations she’d experienced before, and without any will of her own. She’s so dependent on her older brother because she quite literally has no clue what to do with herself without being told to, and needs orders to function.

Umbrella academy Pokémon AU? Each sibling has an affinity to a legendary maybe?

okay you have made me curious enough to explore this in between my monumental task of scanning in Every Family Photo in the house

so i’m thinking this is a universe where all these children are just. Found. No parents, nothing, because I want to avoid implications. But the point is that these children are blessed by a legendary, sort of. They’re not pokemon, but they’re not really human either because humans aren’t supposed to have powers like pokemon, right? They’re kind of like human shaped pokemon really

Anyway Reginald collects the kids and squirms through on a technicality because technically the kids aren’t human so he can train them like a pokemon team. And so begins the Umbrella Academy! Which is a team of six because that’s the max number of pokemon on a team of course, sorry Vanya you have to stay behind in the box manor

i’m using this page as a reference because i will freely admit i’m behind on legendaries and sub-legendaries and mythical pokemon and also i don’t really know the difference between those three categories

Luther:

Zamazenta: Shields the others, durability from steel form, fighter. Has second form which could symbolize Luther going from ‘regular’ human appearance to enhanced form that he is ashamed of as it’s less human.

Terrakion: My guy is built like a brick wall and is strong enough to destroy a castle wall in like, one blow. I love and support them.

Lunala: this one is just me being an asshole because Lunala is known as “the beast that calls the moon” and Luther’s relationship to the moon is a big old thing right there

Diego:

Palkia: this is because Palkia has the ability to warp space which is. Pretty much Diego’s power in the show right? Warps space to that his knives always hit? Also explains Diego’s fight on sight rivalry with Five if Five is Dialga’s lmao Luther stops him from yeeting himself at Five like, at least twice in the show that I remember off the top of my head

Zacian: this is literally just because it’s got a sword and Diego’s power is sharp pointy things so

Virizion: They have knife horns on their head. Knife horns. That’s all.

Allison:

Azelf: Azelf is the bringer of willpower and Allison’s whole thing is overriding that, which Azelf has been shown to be able to do.

Jirachi: her reality powers could be explained by managing to tap into wishes, though Jirachi’s wishes can’t create objects.

Klaus:

Mew: okay if we’re gently looking at comics Klaus as well then the ability to levitate and be a tiny little shit is absolutely perfect and also makes sense with Reginald’s insistence of Klaus’s incredible potential?? Let me be valid. Also, lives at the tree of life right? Opposite of life is death so that could tie in I guess??????

Yveltal: stealing life energy is as close as I could find to an actual death related legendary I’ll be honest.

Darkrai: he’s nightmares but I mean Klaus has a lot of those so. Seriously where is the pokemon god of the dead like the closest i can find are the legendary beasts because they literally died in a tower (that’s dark)

Five:

Dialga: the obvious choice because Dialga is literally like the time god. Since Dialga lives in another dimension I figure they just kind of scoop Five up and steal him? And so Five is stuck in Dialga’s dimension while he’s trying to both master his powers and get home. While having to deal with his overprotective pokemon dad. Also feeds into his ability to rile Diego up with like one word if Diego is Palkia’s

Celebi: able to travel through time and exist simultaneously through time so a stellar choice for obvious reasons. However, Celebi could also be the one who rescues Five from Dialga’s realm since Celebi can sense if something is a temporal anomaly and return them to their timeline sO that’s a possibility. Shared custody?

Xerneas: look Xerneas has the power to share eternal life and it would neatly explain why Five is just. An eternal thirteen-year-old like he is in the comics so there’s that. He would be so salty about it, too. Five just. turns into a tree for seventeen years after using his powers too much lmao can you imagine?? The tree in the courtyard is actually five surprise bitches

Ben:

Giratina: travels and controls dimensions besides those of time and space which could totally explain his ability to access whatever weird tentacle dimension exists in his stomach?? There we go Ben there is a gate to the distortion world

Deoxys: the closest I could get to a weird tentacle legendary honestly??

Yveltal: stealing life energy and then going to sleep is probably about as scary as tentacles right?? look there’s a distinct lack of weird tentacle legendaries it’s a problem

Vanya:

Meloetta: for that musical tie in yo. Also bulbapedia says that Meloetta is capable of becoming invisible and if that’s not a metaphor for Vanya’s childhood I don’t know what is.

Arceus: i mean. If anyone could end the world in one blow it’s probably the original pokemon god, right?

I’m personally liking Terrakion for Luther, Palkia for Diego, Azelf for Allison, Mew for Klaus, Dialga for Five, Giratina for Ben, and Meloetta for Vanya but there are several i like and also if there are ones y’all want to argue for or throw into the ring let me know! I definitely don’t proclaim to be the most knowledgeable person about pokemon

(especially legendaries which i lost track of years ago rip)

It was crystal clear that almost all holidays were NOT Mewtwo’s cup of tea, for she saw no point in concealing such factors. Mewmas however was by far the worst one of all, because whilst many happened to be joyously reveling in their glorified propaganda of that infuriating mythical, this time stabbed her with memories involving own origins. This silent agony was so great that legendary felt like she had no choice, but to briefly leave village on wretched day. Her being forced to leave for more than a whole week, because of one Rocket leader possibly detecting presence in area hardly alleviated hardships either. Indeed there was just so much which transpired during horrid month, that legendary felt frightened towards the prospect of her anger accidentally harming an innocent. Thus she had yet another reason to stay away, from all who didn’t purposely approach her.

The remnants of snow amidst village had melted a bit, turning dry ground into mud and dirtying their once pure white sheen. Evergreens towered above them, like buildings among cities. Both Pokemon were currently in a more ancient part of the forest, where trees who lived more than one hundred years flourished, fell and decayed. It was a rare place, which Psyche often found herself marveling at. Sitting on a fallen log, she took note of the moss and fungi growing upon it. Strange, how with decay there also flourished new life. When the Sneasel approached, amethysts regarded him coolly; that fire she had towards others long quenched enough to not take fury out on bystanders.

Head slightly tilted, displaying minor curiosity as to what his singing voice would sound like. Though she read many of Sneasel’s memories, Psyche found that what creatures believed they sounded like was often different compared towards reality. Additionally he was no Meloetta or Primarina, so Mewtwo tried not to have any expectations on how this would be performed. Fortunately, the ice-type’s show was a far-cry from being subpar.

Having only heard of a Primarina’s performance through other’s recollections and literally being made only for battle, Psyche nary believed she was suitable for constructively critiquing some singer’s voice. Nevertheless, clone acknowledged that there were some differences betwixt soloist Pokemon’s and Salvador’s performance. For one thing though the minds she saw shows from were quite limited on hearing, compared towards hers experiment had no doubt that water-type’s vocals were much more complex. Still Sal’s act WAS impressive, especially when one considered that his species were not known for such gestures. What was most important of all however, was the fact that he happened to be caroling from his heart which when comprehending those lyrics prompted small smile upon lips.

“That was lovely, Salvador,” she replied, genuinely. Opting to give him a gift in turn, she then with one thought gathered some flowers around them through psychic. Twirling them she then swiftly created a little bracelet, before giving it to Sneasel. “I regrettably am no singer myself, so perhaps this will suffice?”
