It's that confession scene from Pride and Prejudice but set it in 1800s Spanish colonized Philippines
I really wanted to redraw this scene, but I didn't know which pairing I could use, since most of my ships already have this redraw.
Then someone on twitter mentioned that Filay (Fidel and Klay) would fit this scene and I couldn't agree more. So here.
Also English version:

Okay, you can leave here, I'm just gonna ramble again over here
I never liked the duology back in highschool. I never read em, but I kinda know what happens and you wanna know why?
The teacher I had, don't get me wrong, she was a lovely person, and I learned a lot from her. However, when it came to discussing these two books, no matter how many notes I've studied/memorized and read future chapters, she'd never include them in exams or quizzes and you're all left in the battlefield making up bs answers as you go. Like What???
Then this show (or teleserye as the locals would call it lol) came along, which is basically an isekai to the first book and boom, historical Philippines brainrot. The protagonist is, well, essentially sort of a Mary Sue, but I am in awe by how progressive some of the episodes are to the point I even cried which is ironic considering this takes place in the past wow. This country, as that one article said it, treats progression like the plague and it was refreshing to see it on television for the first time.
Kinda regretted that I never took these two books seriously now, and whenever I look for them in bookstores/libraries I can no longer find traces of the books, which is a shame, you'd think that when a show with such huge production would have the money to republish/reprint the books as some sort of promotion, but oh well maybe someday I'd be able to finally read them.

"Tinanggap kita."
Uttered by Klay's biological father when she went to his mansion to ask for money to pay for her mom's debt.
Tumblr media
I can't remember if this was verbatim na sinabi ng stepdad nya. Basta this was when she confronted him nung na-witness niyang sinasaktan nito yung nanay niya.
Tumblr media
Pero parehong a$sh0les and $hitty persons.
Then came Fidel's love confession. But still, despite knowing these quirks of Klay, iniibig daw niya ito (excuse me while i swoon 😍).
Tumblr media
Same phrase, but different meanings - (1) her dad, (2) her stepdad, (3) Fidel na laging ka-barda niya.
My takeaway, sana yung phrase na "Tinanggap kita" has a more positive connotation for Klay because it's coming from a place of love *ehem Fidel ehem.*

[SPOILERS FOR MARIA CLARA AT IBARRA EPISODE FEB. 21, 2023]
In the original novel, Simoun died completely alone. He only had Padre Florentino by his side and in the end, he only committed suicide to escape the Spanish authorities; an escape plan for a failed mission. But in Maria Clara at Ibarra, he committed suicide as an atonement for his sins as Simoun after recognizing the error of his ways. This only happens because this Simoun had a support system, which led to him dying surrounded by the people who care about him. This is arguably a better (as in less tragic) end to Simoun. But what exactly is the cause of Simoun having a “better” ending? What factor made things work out differently so that Simoun had a support system? Klay.
Because of Klay’s numerous interactions with the novel/s, Simoun was able to have a functioning support system.
Because of Klay, Simoun grew a closer bond with Basilio 13 years ago as Crisostomo.
Because of Klay, Elias was able to survive, leading to him being present to witness his boyfriend dear friend’s demise.
Because of Klay, Juli was able to survive, which means Basilio is in a better mental capacity to regret joining Simoun in his dangerous plans of revenge, and chase after Isagani instead of just disappearing from the story from then on.
HECK, I’m convinced Klay is the reason why Fidel, an OC made by the show who didnt exist in the novels at all, is dragged to all of this mess in the first place.
Simoun died atoning for his sins surrounded by the people who care about him, instead of dying alone trying to escape the aftermath of a failed plan, BECAUSE OF KLAY. While Klay was unable to prevent the general dreariness and tragedies of the novels and other characters, she WAS able to at least provide a better ending for Simoun and by extension, the other characters close to him.
So in a way, Klay DID succeed in changing the story for the better. She DID succeed in making the novels a better place for its characters.

Costumes in Maria Clara at Ibarra Pt. 2
Notes and details about the historical costumes from the show according to the stylists. Interview here: (x)
Part 1 of the gifset
Additional notes: - “Indio” is a term for Native Filipinos Spanish colonizers used during the colonial period. - “Tapis” generally refers to a piece of cloth that is tied around the body as clothing. In this context, this is the fabric wrapped over the skirt or saya. - “Saya” is a long traditional skirt.

MCAI ep 25
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ito yung era na enemies pa sila ni Klay but he was beginning to admire her medical skills and her spunky character amuses him 😍
Tumblr media
Oneof the scenes I love in this episode is that Fidel has witnessed Klay's multifaceted character- from determined and feisty when she was fending off the men teasing Sisa, to soft and vulnerable when she was treating Sisa and even mentioned her mother's plight in the hands of her Tito Ronald. (Naki-Tito Ronald din eh no, feeling close yarn Fidel? 😆)
From this rewatch, I think it's safe to assume that after Sisa left them, Fidel comforted Klay cos she was crying so much from the guilt that Sisa was alone when her children were suffering from the Kura's hands when Klay promised to help her. That in Sisa's lucid state, she remembered how Klay let her down especially in her desperate attempt to save her children 😭.
After that (ginabi na tbh nagsisindi si Ibarra ng candle while FiLay are ascending the stairs) Fidel took Klay home kasi nga it was emotionally draining for Klay with what happened in his tindahan, tapos pag-uwi ay may alitan sila ni Ibarra due to differences in opinion 😢.
