Some context:

Hundreds of years ago Ratau was the original crown bearer once. Despite having failed then, Narinder still "gifted" him with enternal life, since he knew he'd have to help fullfill the actual prophecy once the time came. Ratau rather thinks his eternal life to be a curse, he's been rather misserable since he outlived his mortal familiy.

He hasn't taken care of the farm ever since he stopped being the crown bearer, which is also why it's so overgrown when Lamb first arrives.

So when Ratau often speaks to the villagers of the old days, he would let something like that slide once a while. Mostly for personal entertainment.
