I really wanted to, I really wanted to think you know, he’ll just be a court jester and live out a happy denial, but no. I mean this exquisite performance— I basically asked Kieran to walk in and have a martini, but I knew he’d find something else there, and the script already alluded to it, and you’ll see in the cut, just that look of where the mask slips for a moment, that endless pain, I don’t see any escape from that. I thought that moment from Kieran was just so devastating , and I don’t feel any optimism for that poor character. - Mark Mylod on Roman's ending
