Sometimes I find vintage pieces that might not be the Belgian or Japanese avant garde, but they are too good to pass up. I first tought this was Jean Paul Gaultier, Vivienne Westwood or Galliano. I hope you can see why: the painted pinstripe, the silhouette with double breasted button closure and the straps along the sleeves that add the runway feel. However it turned out to be early Marithé + François Girbaud. Even though I can not tell you the exact season, you have those real 80's powersuit vibes with the huge shoulder pads and the longer length. Also the fabric feels vintage, same as the size tag. So while the store might be focusing on the Antwerp Six, Margiela, Comme and Yohji, it is important to freshen it up with unexpected items. Such as the Pour Deux shirt I posted earlier this week that a lot of you loved. And the Wim Neels pieces of course, one of the designers in my series of 'underground archival Belgian avant garde'.
