Le kimono n’est pas , à priori, l’habit le plus adapté pour se préserver des morsures du froid hivernal. Les premiers frimas ne doivent pas vous empêcher de pousser, jusqu’au 28 mai 2023, les portes du musée du quai Branly Jacques Chirac pour tout savoir sur ce vêtement iconique du Japon. A l’instar de la société nippone, l’exposition oscille entre tradition millénaire et modernité. Le kimono, littéralement « la chose que l’on porte sur soi », émerge au XVIIe siècle à la période Edo. C’est un habit statutaire porté par les Samouraïs, la classe dirigeante militaire, ou les marchands qui, bien qu’en bas de l’échelle sociale, veulent montrer leur aisance et leur raffinement. Nous nous émerveillons de la qualité du tissage, de la beauté des broderies de soie ainsi que de l’éclat des teintures réalisées à la pâte de riz et étendues au pochoir. Le kimono, emblème de la tradition japonaise, se charge d’exotisme voire d’érotisme pour dépasser les frontières du pays du soleil levant. Il influence la culture populaire et les créateurs de mode actuels. Bushes, bigger busts and looking borderline porcelain is IN.

John Galliano was presenting us with their depiction, in what being a doll, is like. Creating porcelain skin like make-up having make-up artists/lovers all around the world moved.

Giving us a good look behind-the-scenes, a lot of models made behind-the-scenes TikToks, showing us exactly how it was created. Creating a makeup look underneath and then spray painting, a layer of this mysterious substance on the skin, giving us this porcelain look.

But the make up wasn’t the only thing that caused noise. Margiela is on the journey of normalizing bushes again, and depicting the customization and modification of all bodies. Now we don’t know if they drew inspiration from the dolls as in the trans feminine people or the rising conversation of Barbie (2023, Dir. Greta Gerwig).

Body hair is being normalized, and the pics of massive changes being created in the world of fashion.

Bigger busts and waists took centre stage in this seasons show. We see models with large, and you could even say accentuated busts which promotes body inclusivity but it’s not the first time we’ve seen it at least this season.

All and all, Galliano depicted a well articulated show and helped us see that fashion is more than just the clothes, but what we make of it how we wear it and how are features, modified or not, add to our style. So go ahead do your glass skin makeup, get your BBL’s dye, or bleach, your brows and fashion away. This year’s all about how your features accentuate, and coincide with what you wear.
