I know that peach game is like. For kids. Im SO aware of it. But its. So fucking cheap???? This is like the bloatware of nintendo games. What is going on here ???? Not to give nintendo even an ounce of credit…but they generally treat their main characters better than this. And especially after seeing mario wonder, its really obvious how poorly put together and boring this game is. Which is such a shame. Bc Super Princess Peach is right there. Go play that instead.
speedrunning is so cool to me not in the way where i'll actively like. attempt them but in the way where i'll watch hour long videos of some guy explaining all the shortcut glitches you can do in mario kart wii or whatever
Next episode of the Checkpoint Podcast will be with Bex Carlos from the Tu Tía Bruja podcast where we’ll be going over the first Mario Party game! If you have any questions or comments about the game or the guest send an email to [email protected]
Today, we take care of the last of the Koopaling Kids, Larry. His castle combines a little bit of Roy's elements and a little bit of Lemmy's elements into one fun house of a Castle #7. Oh yay.
My beloved bf gifted me mario wonder for my bday and while this isn’t my first mario game bc I had the one on the ds-just sucked at it lol-im having a blast going through it since I always like playing other plaformers then my usual even if I’m always comfy with Mega Man. However, playing this along with other platformers made me realize mega man misses a common aspect in most platformers: collectibles tied to progression/general items to pick up in stages that aren’t upgrades.
Mega Man does have its fair share of items to pick up but almost always it’s a health or power upgrade. The general structure of Mega Man is less of jumping on enemies like others and more so being strong enough you can take down your enemies with your weapons, the usual challenge comes from fighting bosses without their weakness or tight platforming segments. Not to mention, the entire appeal of Mega Man’s structure is you can do bosses in any order, so having stuff like collecting a object for progression just to access the next stage or area would ruin that freedom. (Also in terms of if mega man would collect coins or rings or gems I’m not sure if that would fit either given he’s a robot… What would a robot collect unless it’s like stated it’s apart of his energy source or something? Or maybe screws? Even though that’s the currency in classic for just buying stuff)
This isn’t necessarily a bad thing since it gives mega man it’s own unique appeal and some people may not like other platformers compared to it-even if I say the challenge universally sticks so others are worth checking out, especially when in other games it’s waaaay easier to die despite how brutal mega man is with lives and Insta kill stuff-but it’s something I noticed when playing Mario and other platformers so I’m definitely gonna be rotating this for awhile.
In Super Mario Maker 2, a bizarre visual glitch appears in the Sky theme of the Super Mario 3D World style if the player loses a life in a side area with a checkpoint and then returns to the main area.
Top: upon first loading the course, there is no seam connecting the starting platform to the ground tiles next to it.
Bottom: however, upon losing a life in a different area and then coming back, the seam will be present, as pointed out by the arrow.

New Sonic Dream Team details from hands-on impressions
New details for Sonic Dream Team has emerged from a hands-on impressions article from DigitalTrends. News and notes follows...
Zones contain multiple objectives, some of which include: reach the stage goal, race through checkpoints, collecting keys scattered throughout the level. Each completion awards an orb to unlock more levels.
According to a developer, Dream Team took inspiration from other games like Tony Hawk's Pro Skater and Super Mario Sunshine.
The author said that the game "bares a surprising resemblance to classic 3D Mario games," but also said that it "properly replicates the feeling of Sonic’s early 2000s adventures with fluid, snappy races,"
Levels were filled to the brim with multiple paths meant to be replayed and accommodate different character types.
All characters play the same, with some special abilities: Sonic and Amy can boost, Knuckles and Rouge can climb and glide, Cream and Tails can fly.

Decided to do like I did for After Alterna and put my switch in sleep mode so I don’t lose my checkpoint. Just making this post to log how many deaths I’ve had so far. It’s somewhere around 55; I lost count hdbcjdbcjs
Out of curiosity. What do you think would be the best thing to improve on in the Mario Movie that could be acknowledged and improved on in the sequel?
You know, other than Luigi getting more screentime because I think we can all say and agree on that.
I apologize for any weird grammar down below lol
The pacing could have been better. The start of the film was PERFECT, but as soon as they enter the warp pipe, everything seems so desperate to get to the next part.
I also wish Peach was fixed. I wish she was the same as in the games, but a little more “umph.” Yeah, she was awesome, but she lacked the sweetness she’s known for, and none of her lines in the film were memorable. They were basic lines. The only mildly entertaining moment was when she was trying to comfort Mario after failing the course for the final time. Girl boss Peach was ok, but maybe if she was written as “adorkable,” maybe I’d liked her more.
Toad and Mario’s friendship was completely swept aside in favour of Mario and DK’s rivalry. The LAST TIME Toad and Mario EVER spoke a word to each other was when Toad was begging Peach to join the adventure. After that, nothing. He’s just there to cross of a checkpoint in the list of characters that needed to make an appearance.
The Prisoners could have been handled better. We were introduced to the Snow Kingdom back in October of 2022. The Penguin King became iconic throughout the entire time we were waiting for the film to drop. They even introduced a blue Hungry Luma as a nod to Mario Galaxy (another checkpoint character unfortunately). The last time we see the penguins was when Kamek announces the sacrifice. We never get to see them OR the other Kongs escape. The penguins being shown escaping would have sufficed. Maybe having some of the them hold back KP from trying to fight Kamek for easily taking them down (they would have made such perfect comedic reliefs). And maybe having the Luma fling himself towards the explosion to reverse it would have made TONS OF SENSE, especially for those who played Galaxy.
“It’s time for my demise! Bye bye!” Flings himself into the explosion, reversing the effects.
Those are my top four complaints for the film. I’m sure they’ll make the sequel better. After all, the film works as a good start for how the Bros came to be in the Mushroom Kingdom. They needed their first impression of Bowser to be bad to seal their rivalry.
One thing I do appreciate about the film is Mario’s reason to stay throughout the film. People complained about Luigi being the “damsel in distress,” but it makes sense as their origin story. Mario BARELY knows Peach, so why would he go out of his way to rescue a stranger? By having Mario and Peach join forces to accomplish a goal that benefits both of them was a great way to get them to know each other, thus having Mario feel SO GRATEFUL that he’d do anything in return.
An update on Episode 5 with @Tutiabruja. So there will be some crackling for a small portion of the episode. I had to re-record some of my responses as the commotion going on upstairs was getting picked up on the microphone. And in those second recordings there is a crackling sound which I for the life of me cannot get rid of. I’ve tried recording the lines again to no avail so this will have to do. I apologize for the audio inconvenience.
Which mario character would make the best metroidvania protagonist?
Considering only the core cast, I'd probably go with Princess Peach.
Mario's whole deal is that he has a ridiculously comprehensive movement toolkit right from the get-go (and it would feel kind of obnoxious to force him to work his way up to it), Luigi has his own thing going on in the Luigi's Mansion series, and the rest of the cast are kind of one-note. However, the Super Mario franchise just can't seem to decide what Peach's deal is as a playable character, and she doesn't really have a defined game-mechanical toolkit, so giving her a bunch of random upgrades over the course of the game doesn't feel particularly out of place. Like, you want a justification for why she can do that? Fuck you, it's princess magic.
Plus, the core gameplay loop of the prototypical metroidvania is at least 50% a huge escape-room puzzle – in fact, it's explicitly so, in the case of titles like Metroid Dread – so playing up that aspect of it would be thematic for her. She's always getting trapped somewhere, after all!
Considering the whole Mario Extended Universe, though, I think it would be fun to take Donkey Kong 64 to its logical-yet-absurd conclusion and do a nonlinear, open-world game where your primary means of expanding your movement toolkit is by recruiting an ever-expanding cast of increasingly obscure Kongs with increasingly ridiculous special abilities.
Keep the restriction on switching Kongs only at checkpoints, but integrate that conceit into the core gameplay rather than just using it to pad out the collectathon minigame, such that by the late game, figuring exactly which of the 12-15 different Kongs on your roster has exactly the right moveset for the next needlessly complicated platforming puzzle becomes part of the challenge.
In Super Mario Odyssey, all objects are loaded in default poses (”T-poses”) prior to the first frame at which they are in the field of view of the camera, whereby they assume their normal poses.
By quickly entering Snapshot Mode after warping to a checkpoint, all objects that are outside of the view of the camera when Mario arrives at the checkpoint can be viewed in this state as they do not have time to assume their correct poses. If this is done with Lakitu, it is revealed that his default pose is him being merged with his cloud and fishing rod in the manner depicted.
