margarita nikolaevna is so funny to me.
like literally, she has spent an entire night flying around moscow on a broom, after having become a witch and having used magic cream, she has seen her friend riding a flying pig, she was escorted in a car driven by a raven, and she didn't bat an eye.
but then?? she goes to woland's house and the only thing that she comments on is the fact that the apartment is not lighted and unnaturally big. As if that was the oddest thing that had happened to her that night??

I just realized that the reason I absolutely adore the Master and Margarita it's because it's a book that is purely "me":
I come from a family where people have been having truly interesting lives: and no matter what i did i never lived up to their definition of "interesting", thus always feeling alienated from them. That led me to some serious self-rejection and a mental illness that requires psychiatric help, just because of my perception. With that being said, everyone bloody loves classical literature: they can go on for hours about it. But none of them had ever heard of that book here. Sure, they had heard of Faust but never about the Devil going to Moscow to set up a magic show and host a magnificent ball....Never knew who Bulgakov was or what his life was like...They had no erudite commentary about this work of classic literature.
And so when I found out about it at 15, i felt for the first time that i can enjoy things that they don't know (or may even approve of). I can have my own opinions on things. And some years later, Fate gives me the chance to learn Russian for free through a university course.... And when I ordered the textbooks for this year's work, the people from the bookstore had put in there a bookmark with Bulgakov's name and basic information and some minimal drawings based on the book.
After all this, that book is part of my discovery of self-identity: it's a reminder that there's always a way out even in the darkest of times, if only one remembers to not take things too seriously all the time. The Master and Margarita will always be a hymn to love, the fragility of life and achieving of peace with oneself. And even if my parents or family don't like it, that's alright. I can't be like them. But I can certainly be like me.
Ladies and Gentlemen and Esteemed People, I urge you to read this book once in your life.

We have character day today and it’s a disaster lmao
1) I couldn’t do stuffed animal surgery in time so I just have like a weird lion ring thing? Which really hurts.
2) I’m the only one who dressed up
3) Even in a gold cup, Mountain Dew code red looks nothing like actual blood
4) Writing in Greek on my forehead was a complete fucking failure so I just drew an orange star.
5) Idk how to braid my hair
6) one of the seams on my tit is fraying
7) I have to stop drinking the rest of the Mountain Dew since it’s a prop
8) My nose ring is somewhere idk
9) My cape keeps getting caught in my desk chair
10) The kids keep asking me who I’m dressed as and I’m definitely going to have to have an awkward conversation if I answer honestly so I’ve just been lying and saying I’m a Greek deity
11) They also keep guessing I’m a witch which is their go to and I’m beginning to question things
12) I had exactly one coworker who I thought would guess who I was because he’s an ex pastor and I don’t even see him today because we don’t have planning or inclusion and I also don’t know how annoyed by this costume he’ll be
13) I have a crush on him too and I’m wearing a shirt under my dress because it’s a middle school and so I look less sexy and much more dorky
14) It’s really hard to actually pull off a Whore of Babylon costume when you feel insecure all the time

Grand Duchess Olga Nikolaevna with her friend and fellow Sister of Mercy (nurse) Margarita “Rita” Khitorovo, Evpatoria Crimea 1916
“Monday, 16th May. “…In the afternoon went to Anya’s dacha . Rita was there too. Sat on a marvelous beach near the sea, hunted for seashells. Had tea on her balcony. Returned at 6 o’clock…”

Is there any OTMA anecdotes at christmas you know about?
Hello anon! Yes there are plenty!!! I’m so happy you asked this because Christmas is today and what better way to learn more about Romanov Christmases than to hear it from their own words! ❤️
“We had a Christmas party for all who live in the house with us. During the evening of the 24th, at 9 1/2 o'cl. we had a vsenoshnaya, rather late, but the priest could not get here calier, and at the table, with all the icons [we] set up a tree and lit it up. It stood there during the entire vsenoshnaya. It was very nice and cozy. We did not hang anything on the tree.” - Letter from Tatiana to Countess Zinaida Tolstaya, 16 December 1917
“Hello my dear Ritka! Well, the Holidays are upon us already. We have a Christmas tree in the corner of the hall and it dispenses a wonderful scent, but not at all the same as in Tsarskoe [Selo]. This is some special kind of tree called "bal-sam." It smells strongly of oranges and tangerines, and there is resin flowing down the trunk constantly. There are no ornaments, but only silver streams and wax candles, of course from the church, since there are no other.” Letter from Olga Nikolaevna to friend Margarita “Rita” Khitorovo, December 26th 1917
“We generally spent Christmas at Tsarskoe Selo. It is less observed than Easter in general, but in the palace it is a great festival. There were no fewer than eight Christmas trees in various parts of the palace. The Empress dressed them all herself, and personally chose the presents for each member of her household, and for each officer, to the number of about five hundred. A tree was arrayed for the Cossacks in the riding-school. The children and I had a tree for ourselves. It was fixed into a musical-box which played the German Christmas hymn, and turned round and round. It was indeed a glittering object. All the presents were laid out on white covered tables, and the tree stood for several days an object of intense interest and admiration to the children. They were very sad when it was dismantled just before we went to St. Petersburg, but they were consoled by being allowed to help, and to divide the toys between the members of their own household.” Six Years At The Russian Court by Margaretta Eagar
“The little girlies were delighted to se her [Empress Alexandra Feodorovna] so gorgeously attired; they circled round her in speechless admiration for some time, and suddenly the Grand Duchess Olga clapped her hands, and exclaimed fervently, "Oh! Mama, you are just like a lovely Christmas tree!" After divine service was finished there was a drawing-room, at which all the debutantes were presented.” Six Years At The Russian Court by Margaretta Eagar
