Genre fluff; pairing maki x fem!reader; warnings maki is a little mean at first, mentions of injuries and blood, slight cursing, not proofread;

“You idiot.”

You opened your eyes at the sound of those words, a small smirk creeping on your lips. Your back was leaning against a wall.

“Hey…” you responded weakly.

“Oh, wipe that stupid smirk from your face.” Maki kneeled next to you taking out bandages to treat your wounds. “You never listen to me, that curse beat your ass.” She was mad.

Was she?

No, she was worried.

Maki has always taken care of you. You were her most prized possession, if it could be a person. But of course, she would never let you know that. So she silently took care of you. Her heart almost stopped at the sight of you covered in blood as you leaned your back against a wall almost unconscious.

“It wasn’t that bad…” You felt slightly guilty, you definitely didn’t want to worry her. “I could exorcise it in the end.” You smiled.

“Yeah, but now look at you now. You look like shit.” She wrapped a bandage around your arm. “You could’ve just waited for me, and I would’ve helped you.”

“Just take me with Shoko…” You sighed as you looked up at her, her eyes meeting yours briefly before looking back at your wounds.

“I want to do it.” She said, this time her voice was softer than her usual cold tone.

“Thank you, pretty.” You said as you leaned in slightly forward.

Maki’s cheeks turned red. What did you just say?

“Not the time, yn.” She mumbled as she kept cleaning your wounds. “I’ll take you with Shoko later.”

“You’re blushing…” You teased, smiling at her weakly.

“You know I could still leave you here on your own.” This time she met your eyes. Her cold gaze was fading slightly.

“But you won’t,” You took her hand and rubbed her palm softly. “right?”

“Did you hit your head too?” Maki said coldly but she didn’t pulled her hand away.

“Maybe I did,” you shrugged. “But I don’t really care, at least I have you here with me.” Even if you were flirting with her, you were being genuine.

You have liked Maki for years, but you never had the opportunity to tell her how you feel. You were scared of expressing your feelings, and scared of how she would react. But now, you weren’t afraid, the way she took care of you made you think that there might be a possibility that she liked you back.

“Can you stop playing with me? You almost died.” She sounded annoyed. But her heart fluttered with your words.

“I’m not playing, I’m telling the truth.” She huffed, and stood up from the ground. “Can you stop ignoring my feelings?”

Maki froze on the spot. Was she pushing you away? She never thought you’d be saying something like that. In her head, her feelings for you weren’t reciprocated. That’s why she was cold towards you. She wanted to hide any type of feelings, love made her feel weak.

But if it was for you, she’d be weak forever.

“I’m- I’m not…?” For the first time, her voice wasn’t firm or cold. You sighed and looked up at her.

“You are.” You got up on your feet stumbling a little, so now you were facing her. “I’ve been trying for some time, but you just push me away.”

She looked away from your eyes. Her mind was spinning, were you actually saying what she thought?

“Maki, I like you…” You finally said, her eyes met yours in a second. “Don’t you see it? I’ve liked you since I met you. And I know you like me back.”

Maki swallowed the lump on her throat, her heart was beating so fast she could almost hear it. “You… mean that?”

Your heart ached with her words. You knew Maki didn’t know much about love, and you wanted to give her that. You wanted to make her feel loved and cared for.

“I do, I wanted to-“ you were interrupted by her lips on yours.

Maki took all the courage she had and stepped forward cupping your cheeks and planting her lips on yours interrupting you.

It was a soft kiss, but you could still feel the need you both had for it. Almost as if you were made for that moment to happen.

After a few seconds you pulled away pressing your forehead on hers.

“I won’t push you away, I’m sorry.” She whispered.

“Don’t worry about that, just love me now, okay?” You replied and she nodded with a soft smile. “…and please take me with Shoko.”
