Some MacCready Hcs
-always cold. His hands are especially are fucking freezing. He wrings his hands a lot rubs them together to try and warm them up.
-his cap and jacket both have a worn little tag on the inside, hand stitched with his initials — put there by Lucy in neat black thread.
-he and Hancock were passing friends for a bit before sole was thawed out, but became very close quickly once they spent some time on the road.
-Mac gets along famously with Cait, but hates that she—without fail—calls out his cursing with a shit-eating grin. Sole introduces the concept of a swear jar, which Cait thinks is funniest thing in the world.
-Mac is an excellent at herding drunken people, a highly admired skill in Goodneighbor, and later in any settlement. Probably from his years as mayor of little lamplight: he’s stern but even the drunks can tell it’s mostly affectionate.
-Magnolia is on a personal quest to (subtly) play matchmaker for him. Hancock is notably less subtle about it.
-one of the ways sole knew he really trusted them was when he somberly requested a mod on his rifle. He tried to pay and everything but sole would only accept payment in the form of helping them haul salvage across the waste. (Need more aluminum after those upgrades, after all).
-Mac’s jumpy and fidgety both, to an almost comical (or worrying) degree—unless he’s peering down a scope, where everything he can see is his to control.
-close combat makes him nervous, but he does a good job of hiding it. He hates it more if sole has him hang back while they go in close.
-his dry sense of humor was born from many years of not understanding the joke/metaphor as a kid.
-sometimes his deadpan is too good, and people don’t realize he’s joking, then he has to backtrack: which makes him all flustered and shit.
-while he cracks a grin easily, his actual laugh is rare. but when he does it’s full force: the loud, can barely breathe, eyes-watering kind.
-his letters to Duncan include drawings sometimes—usually encountered creatures or people he’s met. Per his kiddo’s request, there is a pretty decent sketch of sole tucked under Duncan’s bed—he likes knowing someone is keeping his dad safe.
-sole and Hancock collect the all the pens, pencils, and intact paper they can find for Mac. They never give it to him directly: it feels like too much to address it unless Mac wants to talk about his kid, so they just add it to his pack. Mac knows, and returns the favor in his own ways: gruffly shoving shotgun shells into Hancock’s hands, and a giving a variety of ammo types to Sole.
- once the dust settled, Mac and Duncan moved out to the commonwealth: diamond city for the first few years so Duncan could attend school with the other kids. Duncan and Nat are thick as thieves and cause endless (mostly harmless) trouble. Nick’s had to drag the pair out of trouble a few times, only sometimes reporting the shenanigans to their respective guardians.

relationship hcs — maccready
a/n: please someone get homeboy therapy ...
Tumblr media
(nsfw below cut!)
★ ! sfw
maccready falls for you fast and hard
it's like going down a slope, when you begin to lose your footing and trip over your own feet in the process
he's been through a lot in his rather short life, things a lot of people didn't even get to experience
and while he's definitely everything but weak-willed, his past tends to catch up with him on particularly cold nights
when he learns of your story, he immediately feels a strange pull towards you
you can relate to each other so well, both having lost your spouses and having set out into the unforgiving wasteland to save your children
maccready is hesitant to open up at first - he's not used to expressing his emotions anymore
he's suspicious, too, a little bit
some lone vault survivor genuinely interested in him, his life, his feelings? weird
and after all, he's just a gun for hire anyways ... right?
but whenever you smile at him from across the campfire when he talks about duncan or the way your fingers seem to burn their marks into the sleeves of his coat when he finally mentions lucy lights a fire in the pit of his stomach
he admires the way you carry yourself and how there's always a quick-witted response stuck to the back of your throat
and, even though he won't admit it, he feels inspired by you - by your willingness to help people, to make the commonwealth a better place
for a long while there's so much awkward flirting between the two of you
you love cracking jokes and talking smack about the people in the upper stands of diamond city together
and, even though you reciprocate his teasing, maccready can't quite convince himself that you could feel the same about him
he goes through many sleepless nights, with you sleeping just a couple feet away from him, his thoughts somersaulting around in his head
you finally kiss him on a cloudless night under the stars, when he jokes about how that one trader in bunker hill assumed you two were married
you swear you can feel his brain short circuit
as much as he's grown used to the action of the battlefield, what he enjoys most is just sitting with you around some candles in sanctuary reading grognak the barbarian, an ashtray and a couple bottles of wine in between the two of you
he always holds you impossibly close at night (sometimes the nightmares still come back)
maccready can't wait for you to meet duncan - and to finally have the perfect little family he's always looked for
★ ! nsfw
he's an eager lover for sure, sometimes that makes him a little hasty
definitely more on the sub side as well
he loves you so much and wants nothing more than to be close to you - to feel your skin against his and your lips on his own
dare i say he's a bit desperate?
while he has some experience he's still exploring his own tastes, and most of the time he's open to trying new things if you suggest them
one thing i think is a thing with him is gunplay - the paradox of it can really get him going
he doesn't have a ton of stamina but he absolutely makes up for it in enthusiasm
he just can't believe he gets to be with you, and when you're alone his hands are all over your face, your body, in your hair, almost like he fears you could go up in smoke any second
afterwards you'll curl into each other, and he holds you so, so tight in the most loving embrace

curie and mac
literally crossed my mind like a second ago but they'd be SO cute together
Two adult children becoming best friends
spontaneously random hcs here we come
read comics together at god unholy hours at night. Will do anything, including steal Sole’s pip boy to use as a torch.
they geek out with Deacon and if they behave well enough, they can borrow a comic to read from his stash. It’s an absolute honour to them
Mac is extremely protective of Curie, especially before Duncan comes back to Sanctuary. I guess in a way she reminds him of his son (she shares that childlike wonder of discovering everything for the first time) and vows to keep her safe from all harm. He soon discovers she doesn’t need that help, however
also taught her how to use a gun. Possible mistake, but Curie is now often at the forefront during attacks, and offers to help protect other settlements.
help the kids make toys/ structures out of old junk. They pride themselves very highly about it, especially the fact that Danse helps if he approves of their handiwork.
Curie is shy after becoming a synth, but MacCready is a massive help as she recuperates and comes to terms with a new body. She regains her confidence with his help, striking a strong bond between the two

I managed to convince my mom to watch the thing with me and the first thing she said when she saw macready was, "why does Kurt Russell look like a girl in this movie?" When I asked her to elaborate she said "I mean it's fine for guys to have long hair but he doesn't have to curl it, you know" and now I can't get the image of macready just in his shack going at it with a curling iron out of my head

Companions react to getting hit in the face with a snowball that Sole threw
Cait: Pure rage. Cait is already hurling a snowball of her own by the time Sole rights their posture. It’s tightly packed and filled with debris from Sanctuary’s sullied, post-nuclear floor. The snowball hits Sole between their eyes, and Cait’s anger quickly melts with both their laughter.
Codsworth: He doesn’t have a face, but Sole connects their snowball with his round metal body, and it exploded on impact, spraying Sole with their own creation. “General Atomics at it’s finest, sir/mum!”
Curie: She gasps and scoops down with one hand to make a snowball of her own, trying to halt Sole from throwing another with the other. “A moment to retaliate, please!” Curie clumsily tries to roll the snow with trembling fingers. She’s never made a snowball before. “You have a most unfair advantage!”
Danse: The soldier is more surprised than upset. He wasn’t used to a subordinate catching him off-guard. And Danse was a little impressed Sole managed to hit him square in the face from where he towered over them in his power armor.
Deacon: “Oh god, the humanity!” Sole stops from throwing a second snowball at Deacon’s dramatic overreaction. They ask him what’s wrong, and he gestures hopelessly to the floor. “You’re just lobbing snowman body parts around like cannon fodder! You monster!” He can’t help but laugh at his own joke, but the sound is quickly cut off by Sole’s second snowball.
Hancock: Hancock is so high it takes him a solid ten seconds to realize Sole threw anything at all. Then he chuckles lowly, wiping the cold residue from his scaly brow. “You’re gonna regret that, Sunshine.” His words are laced with amusement, and he dips to the floor to make a snowball of his own.
MacCready: “Hey, no fair! I wasn’t ready!” He’s an absolute baby about it, and only cheers up when he throws a snowball back, hitting Sole squarely in the chest.
Preston: Preston is all laughter and smiles despite the frost clinging to his nose. “Lucky shot, General.” He would never throw one back.
Piper: Piper’s surprised laughter is cut short when she slips backwards over a patch of ice. Sole runs to her aid in three short strides, and when they bend down to pull her up she shoves a handful of snow in their face. “Gotcha, Blue!” Sole lets go of her arm and she falls back down with a squeal.
Nick: Nick doesn’t find it funny. Does Sole know how bad water is when it gets inside his circuits? He starts to lecture them, and Sole responds with another snowball.
X6-88: The snowball knocks X6′s glasses off his face. His stare alone has Sole running.

Companions React: The Stars Have Changed
Request: “This is gonna sound a little weird but I would love a headcannon about when Sole and their companion is having to travel at night, and Sole just stops all of a sudden, sits on the ground and just tries to identify constellations from their time but can’t because the stars have changed.”
Contains: Sole grieving their old life, hurt/comfort.
Word Count: 1,854
The Scenario:
Sole and their companion had been traveling for quite some time. Home was still quite a ways away, and with every footstep both were growing wearier. At first, they were determined to keep going– progress couldn’t be made if they took a break every time it felt like their feet were going to fall off. But Sole kept glancing up. Then, without saying a word, Sole stopped, staring at the sky, and lowered themself to sit. They weren’t in a particularly treacherous area, so it was more of a surprise than anything.
Cait:
“Uhh… somethin’ wrong, Sole?”
It was unusual for them to take a break, even with other people insisted, so Cait was confused and honestly somewhat annoyed It looked like they were tracing the sky with their eyes, searching for something, anything
“They’re gone.” Their voice was hollow
“What?”
“The stars… they’re gone. I don’t recognize any of them.”
“What in the name of God are y’ talkin’ about?”
“When I was younger I knew all of the constellations– I could draw them out for you now, if we had something to draw on. But they’re… they’ve changed since I was frozen.”
There was a sense of devastation that Cait knew not to touch. Grief came in waves for Sole. They found it in the little things. First it was what they would find amongst Sanctuary, and then it was scraps of adverts they’d grown up seeing, little tins of goods they thought long lost to time. Cait had never thought the stars of all things could be different.
It would’ve been easier to tell them to get up and look at the stars once they’d gotten somewhere safe. But Cait settled down beside them and leaned back on her hands, looking at that sky with Sole. She tried to imagine what it had looked like for them, and what their surroundings would’ve looked like, as well.
Curie:
“Sky’s different.”
“Oh… yes, I suppose it would be.”
Sole’s smile was bittersweet as they redirected their gaze to Curie for just a moment. They were fully distracted by the stars, though. “I can’t believe I didn’t notice before now.” Their voice was quiet.
“You are too busy running after everyone. You have no time to look up.” She gave a soft smile they didn’t see.
Sole pointed at the sky. “The Big Dipper used to be there.” They moved their hand. “Orion’s belt. Taurus.”
Their hand dropped to rest by their side. “I guess I have to relearn them.”
“Perhaps you can name them, too.”
Sole turned and looked at her again, smiling. “Yeah, maybe. Just among Sanctuary. I don’t think they’d mind.”
Danse:
“Sole?”
“Danse… the stars are different. They’ve changed.”
Danse looked up. There didn’t seem to be anything particularly out of place that he noticed. He looked back down at them and their hollow expression. “Uh, did you hit your head? Do you have a concussion?”
Sole laughed. “No, Danse, I mean the sky used to look different, from before the bombs dropped. Everyone knew the constellations, the famous ones at least. But they’ve moved. It’s been too long.”
“They’ve… moved?”
“I’ll tell you about it sometime. Do you know any of the new constellations? Are there any new constellations?”
“I don’t see why there would be.”
Right. When you’re fighting for your life every day, there might be less of a focus on naming the stars and becoming familiar with them. God. The entire sky had changed and as far as Sole knew, no one had even noticed. The weight of grief reared its head– no one had mourned something Sole hadn’t even imagined would change before.
Deacon:
“You know, I could be wrong, but this doesn’t look like the Railroad. Just gonna be honest here, Sole.”
“The stars have changed.”
Deacon looked up and contemplated for a moment. After traveling as much as he did, he’d turned to books that had managed to survive the war. Constellations had been mentioned before, and out of curiosity, he’d taken one of the maps out to see if he could find them. He couldn’t; in fact, nothing was the same as the map he’d found. And now he had proof that it wasn’t just his potential inability to read maps properly.
He settled down next to them, careful not to disrupt the way they were entranced by the unfamiliar sky. “Some of us got bored one night and made up new ones. Shapes and names. Do you want me to teach you?”
They, in fact, hadn’t done that. Ever. But the pressure of inventing new constellations on the spot was nothing once he caught the way Sole lit up. “There’s new constellations.” They muttered to themself, fascinated by the concept.
The potentially ten minute break for Sole to mourn turned into several hours of Deacon and them laying in the dead grass. Deacon would point at the sky and make up a name on the spot, insisting that they just weren’t seeing it. Sole caught on within minutes, but Deacon didn’t mind. Their laughter was ringing out into the night air, and every wasted second was worth it.
Gage:
Unimpressed was how Gage would describe himself initially. He raised an eyebrow. “Overboss?”
Sole didn’t respond, and instead continued staring. He recognized the look. They weren’t particularly close, but he had traveled with them long enough to know; something had reminded them of Pre-War times, and they were being hit with the grief of losing it all over again. Months ago, Gage would’ve become impatient within minutes and insisted they get moving, that there was time to grieve later.
Instead, Gage braced himself to sit on the rocky ground, fully prepared to protect them in case something snuck up while Sole was distracted. Weapon resting across his lap, Gage sat back and kept his eyes on their surroundings.
Hancock:
“Uh… everything alright, Sunshine?”
“Hancock, everything’s different.”
He knew that tone. “Yeah, Sunshine I know.” He sighed and joined them on the ground. “What is it this time?”
The question wasn’t impatient, but instead genuinely curious and concerned. “The stars.”
“The stars changed?”
“Yeah. There, um,” They pointed. “The Big Dipper used to be there.”
“Big Dipper?”
Sole took his hand from where it rested on his lap and spread his palm. Then, they grabbed pebbles from the ground and arranged them. “The Big Dipper. The stars looked like that, and you could pick them out of the sky because of the shape it made.” They traced the path between the pebbles as an example.
“Oh. I’m sorry, darlin’.”
Sole smiled, bittersweet, and swiped the pebbles from his hand, watching them clatter to the ground. They sighed. “Me too.”
MacCready:
Mac wasn’t one for wasting time, but after Sole had gone out of their way to take care of his problem with the Gunners, he found himself biting his tongue more often than not when he wanted to complain. They didn’t do anything without reason, but sometimes it took him a while to figure out what that reason was. This time, he just asked, “Sole?”
“Sorry, I–” They cut themself off and turned.
If MacCready knew any better, it looked like they were checking their surroundings, the same way they would when staying alert on a job, but their gaze was directed at the sky. That made no sense. “The stars aren’t the same as they were before.” Sole sounded breathless, and a little horrified.
“How is that even possible.”
“I don’t remember the science behind it, but after a while the stars change. A hundred years from now, they won’t look the same as you remember them, either. They…” Sole trailed off, shaking their head.
No matter how hard they searched, there was nothing familiar left in the inky black of the night sky. Abruptly, they stood, startling Mac, and brushed off their clothes. “Let’s go. I can’t– I can’t look at it anymore.”
Nick:
“Doing alright, Sole?”
“The stars are different, Nick.”
“I know.”
There was an understood air of pain between them. Sole had everything they knew ripped away from them, and Nick had memories that didn’t belong to him. He missed a world he was never a part of. “When did you realize?”
Nick sighed and lowered himself to the ground next to them. “Oh, after I got away from the Institute. That night, it was hard to travel because I kept getting these flashes. Nick Valentine’s memories, but I didn’t know that yet. But everything was so strange and familiar at the same time. And eventually, I just collapsed and I happened to look up and… it was different. I’d never even seen it before, but it was different.”
Sole had tears in their eyes, hardly suppressed, their teeth gritted. They gave him a short smile and a nod, an acknowledgement of the understanding between the two of them, and squeezed his hand. The pair sat there and watched the stars, and tried to re-familiarize themselves with the world they’d been thrown into.
Piper:
“Everything alright there, Blue?”
“Yeah, sorry. It’s just…” Sole shook their head, confused. “I’m trying to find some of the constellations and they’re just… gone.”
“Gone?”
“Yeah. I guess it was bound to happen, you know. But shit. They’re just gone.”
“Nat likes to stargaze. She’s got a whole book of constellations she’s made up– you should ask her sometime.”
“Yeah?” Sole laughed a little, fighting the way their heart was sinking.
“Yeah. I think you both would enjoy it.”
Sole released a deep breath and nodded. “We can clean it up and make a new book of constellations– spread it across the Commonwealth.” They laughed wholeheartedly this time.
Preston:
“General?”
“Sorry, Preston. I just– when did the stars change?”
“When did… sorry, what?”
They looked at him, somewhat startled themself, before realization dawned. “You wouldn’t know. Right.”
“I’m still not sure I know what you mean.”
“The stars looked different before the War. I just– I never thought about them changing. It’s just one of those things you never expect. The sky is the sky. It doesn’t change. It’s not supposed to.”
They both ignored the way Sole’s voice cracked in the middle of their last sentence. Preston stepped closer, but stayed standing. “Take your time, General.” He said quietly.
X6-88:
“Mx, is something the matter?”
“Did the Institute ever notice that the stars are different now?”
X6-88 seemed taken aback by their question, if the slight tilt of his head was anything to go by, but recovered quickly. “Yes. It was not considered a priority, but one scientist did write a small journal about his findings, and it has been updated throughout the years whenever a noticeable change takes place.”
“Do you think I could see it?”
X6 shifted. Whenever their voice took on that tone, it never failed to activate his protective protocols. He knew it didn’t make any sense. They weren’t in physical danger, it wasn’t necessary for him to protect them, but nonetheless, he felt that prickle of help them travel across his skin. “Yes. Of course.”

I have a cute little Em and Mac bit for you.
As Mac reads and rereads his comics, he reaches a limit where he cannot just keep reading them over and over. He's a fan of them, but he gets sick of them over time. But he always catches Em reading books on her downtime. While he likes sitting there to be with her and lounge around for a bit, he starts asking her questions. What is she reading? What's the plot so far? Does she think he would like what she's reading?
And it inspires her.
She starts trading a whole bunch of things to get a better, wider collection of books in the house so he can read them and find genres that he likes. (I don't think absolutely all of the books besides the overdue ones and comics are gone. There has to be books circulating around still.) He likes when she reads them first because she's a little faster at tearing through them than he is, and while he's not fully into the "book club" questions, he finds that he likes talking about what he's read with her.
And he doesn't mind expanding his vocabulary once in a while. :)
This was more like a self indulgence sort of idea, cause I love the image of them reading while still cuddling or sharing a blanket. And I thought I'd share with you :)
Have a good Wednesday everyone!

Živa comic i never posted. based off a hc where Maccreadys actually a pretty decent comic artist (obsession taken to the max) but his notebook is like doodling, 3 pages of badly written grognak fanfic with his self insert oc, torn out pages to be used as letters (for duncan), he gets bored writing his fic midway through and draws a giant penis across the page because why not

Things in fo4 I refuse to think about and simply ✨️ignore✨️
that Shaun doesn't age. It literally makes no sense if the Gen 3 synths are more like clones than robots, but whatever stupid fallout Lore
additionally that gen 3 synths can't reproduce. IF THEY ARE CLONES THEIR BASICALLY JUST HUMANS WITH A CHIP IN THEIR BRAIN THAT CONTROLS IT OR AM I MISUNDERSTANDING SYNTHS?
That the institute doesn't do some weird evil science shit to the people they snatch. Come on we all know their capable it's just lazy writing to not have evidence
That Maxson isn't a super detailed character. He had so much potential.... I get leaving some stuff up to fan interpretation, but come on now fans shouldn't have to give the man a personality because the writers wouldn't
That Cait is Irish and Vladim is Russian... it makes no damn sense considering bombs went off 200 years ago and no ones been in or out of the country since...
That the Lucy Maccready married wasn't the same Lucy from little lamplight
That Hancock isn't Fahrenheits father (adopted or otherwise)
That Danse and Curie are technically kinda related to the sole survivor and yet are still romancable (Sole is the parent of Shaun -> Shaun's DNA Created synths hence the title "father" -> Curie and Danse are synths)
That Danse can actually be really frickin dark sometimes (Send em back to hell while shooting at the BOS post BB.... like dude do you not know those people???)
That X6-88 just dosent realize or doesn't care enough to comment on the institute being blown up when like literally every other character does
that you don't evacuate the kids on the prydwen when you blow it up 💔
that you can't bring sparky back to a settlement so you just abandon him (unrelated but my hc is he was the sole survivors lost dog from before the bombs)
That we never find out what happened to Hancock's parents. They sounded so nice what happened to them?
That Danse doesn't have a canonical first name
The whole Nick kellog thing that just never got brought up again
That Irma look so cool if she really is just a background character. I thought she was gonna be way more important

HC on a modern fallout. Like same characters just in now times.
Like Obvs Nick would still be a PI but what of the others? Would factions be a thing still or would they all have normal jobs?
What of the synths?

Modern Fo4 Headcanons
➼ Word Count » 3.3k ➼ Warnings » Spoilers for many character arcs ➼ Genre » Modern AU ➼ A/N » This took me WAY too long, but I had so many things I wanted to write down and expand on.
COMPANIONS [ these are how I imagine them before meeting Nate and Nora, a random couple who just happens to enter into everyone's lives ]
MacCready grew up as an orphan in Virginia where the older kids raised him. He never got adopted and, while he was thankful for the teens who raised him, there was always a sense of abandonment and negativity that he'd always attach with the state. So, when he turned 18, he hitchhiked to Boston, hoping to find a happier and more fulfilling life. It didn't happen as soon as he'd wanted, however, and he bounced from place to place looking for a stable job. His rugged exterior and immature attitude forced him out of a lot of areas, but there was a group that didn't mind any of that. MacCready was ecstatic when the Gunners first picked him up. They gave him jobs, sure, but they had also given him a group he could identify with in the same way he did with the kids back at the Orphanage. After a year of working with them, MacCready met Lucy. He'd originally planned on robbing her, but her name reminded her too much of the Lucy he'd grown up with, and offered to walk he home instead. When they had gotten to her door she asked him about why he was wearing army pants. He jokingly told her that he was in the military who was currently on leave, which she ended up believing. It surprised MacCready since his Gunners tattoo was visible on his arm, but he found her gullibility to be endearing. After that, the two spent a lot of time together, but right after Duncan was born, she pieced together his association with the gang, left him, and quickly moved into an apartment located in a safer area. Heartbroken and consumed with guilt, he quit the gang for good and worked to better himself and clean up his act so that he could be a part of his son's life, and maybe try his relationship with Lucy once more. He does a few odd jobs here and there but, so far, none of them have stuck.
Once Nick's testing was over, the students at CIT didn't know what to do with him other than to let him roam the campus, so he stuck with what he knew - police work. He'd wander the college as an officer, looking for any job or event that could require his help. At first, he was treated more as a Protectron than an actual member of the force, but that never really bothered him, as long as he was actively making people safer, then he was content. What did bother him, however, was the amount of jury trials he had to be present at for being the product of unethical testing. It always made him feel guilty that he was an unconsented clone of the real Nick Valentine's mind, and if he could, he would've chosen not to be created at all. Knowing the amount of pain his existence had caused an actual person made him feel awful, but he'd rather put that energy into his community over hating himself for something that was out of his control. He never really got over the confusion and sadness he had when he thought about who he was but, over time, many of the students began to treat him as if he were a real person. They'd greet him in the mornings, buy him ties on special occasions, and every once in a while someone would bring him coffee, forgetting that he couldn't drink it. His life slowly changed from him not understanding what his purpose was, to becoming a well-respected member in his field. Even the real Nick grew to appreciate him after he helped to hunt down Eddie when no one else wanted to. His memories of DiMA were still there (as it had only been a 2 or 3 decades compared to 2 centuries), but his brother didn't stay with the school, instead opting to discover himself elsewhere. As soon as he was allowed, he left for Maine and made a name for himself as the first robotic philosopher and occasionally sending letters to Nick.
Cait ran away from home at 15 in an attempt to escape the abuse she received from her parents. Scared, alone, and incredibly fragile, she was an easy target for many others on the streets and was taken advantage of both emotionally and sexually by almost anyone who saw her. As the years went by, the more hardened and angry she had become. Finally able to adapt to her surroundings, she stole, fought, and threatened anyone she could. This led her to be put in many juvenile detention centers and child reformat camps, both of which never helped change her view on the world. Still living on the streets at 18, she went and bought her first gun. She thought of going to visit her parents for a while, wondering if it would make some of the pain she felt go away. On the day she decided she was finally ready to go kill them, she ran into Tommy, a sleazy businessman who was desperate to strike it big in the corporate world. Seeing the potential and opportunity that a young, angry, mistreated girl could present to him, he offered her a deal. If she focused her rage into wrestling and let him be her manager, he'd help her get off the streets and really make a name for herself. She agreed and very quickly became one of the best and most well-known wrestlers in Boston, although, most of the press that covers her is about her attitude and allegation regarding her addictions. She still holds onto that shotgun she bought. It reminds her of what could've been and helps her feel a sense of security. She knows no one will take advantage of her again because she now has the means to ensure of it. She's still waiting for the day her parents beg her to take them back so she can tell them off, but they never did. It hurts her more to know that, even now that she's found success for herself, her parents still don't want her. So, until it kills her, she'll drink and inject herself with whatever she can get her hands on, desperate to numb as many of her thoughts as she can until she passes.
Danse was also made at CIT, although he's much more advanced than Nick is. Almost immediately after being created, he left to go to DC where he met Cutler. Cutler was on the verge of homelessness and pitched his idea of starting a small business to Danse who agreed quickly (he had no other plans). They sold odd things they either built or found for a few years before they were approached by a general in the US Army. He was only browsing, but Danse felt compelled by his stories from when he was in combat. There was something about serving his country and defending the common man that he found to be incredible, and so he and Cutler quit their gig and signed up for the army. There've been robots who've joined the military before, but none who made the decision on their own volition. All the others are Assaultrons and Mr. Gutsy, so having one who willingly wanted to be a part of the cause was astounding to many. Cutler eventually got mortally wounded and Danse, who was clearly devasted, was then assigned to work with Haylen and Rhys out of fear that he'd go haywire or malfunction due to the impact of his friends death, and that's where he's been ever since. The memories he'd been given were vague and slightly foggy, but the army gave him something to identify with and a cause to work for. He was prideful in the work he did and, although there were others, he served to be one of the first instances of a robot showing a willingness to fight for his country.
Ever since he was young, Preston had looked up to those who did right by people. At first, he joined a police academy to be an officer, but after a bystander got caught up in one of the scenes he'd been sent to, he quit, deciding that this wasn't something he was cut out to do. The guilt of not being able to successfully protect an innocent civilian eats away at him, so, in an attempt to make it up to himself, he went into hospice care. At least here he knows the deaths aren't his fault and that all the people he cares for have lived long, fulfilling lives. Currently, he's caring for the long-time addict, Mama Murphy (who still manages to sneak a few pills into the room every now and again). Preston adores her, but every once in a while she'll tell him about a dream she's had where the world had ended and he played a part in rebuilding it. He can't let her describe it for long, though, otherwise she'll start to panic and he'll have to grab her medication to help calm her down, and he hates having to give her drugs. Luckily he knows that she's just and elderly woman suffering from schizophrenia and none of what she says about a war torn world holds any truth. As much trouble as she causes him, Preston isn't sure what he's going to do when she's gone. He only hopes that it doesn't shatter him as much as the bystander incident did.
Codsworth still operates under Sole's roof in taking care of Shaun and the home. Nothing changes with him, however, when he went to drop Shaun off at college for the first time, he met Nick, and the two got along quite well! Whenever he goes to visit Shaun with the family he always makes sure to stop by to chat with the detective.
Piper runs a very controversial newsstand right in the heart of Boston. There are so many authorities and higher-ups whose reputations have been ruined due to her articles, and even with a mob of protestors against her, she still does whatever she wants. She grew up in a smaller town on the outskirts of Massachusetts before she managed to work up enough cash to get herself and Nat to the city, where she could finally begin to look for work to support them both. However, she quickly found that the 'big city' had many issues on its own and, since then, she was dead set on bringing people's attention to them. She doesn't care about the death threats or riots that sometimes occur outside her home. The police know her well enough by now to keep an eye out in her neighborhood. Especially Nick, who met her once while she set up a debate booth on campus and interviewed students for an article she planned on publishing. She's not rich by any means, but she loves her job. And, to her, there's no better feeling than that. She's just praying Nat isn't as prone to controversy as she is.
Curie was placed in a research facility where she helped to test and study different diseases with a group of other doctors before being places in a hospital. She mainly cares for sick children but is reveled to be one of the best doctors as she doesn't need to sleep or take any breaks. She adores her job and never stops working on cures and medicine for her patients. When she heard about the synths being created at CIT, she asked her supervisors if she could swap bodies so she could better fit in with the rest of her coworkers, as well as be able to hold vials and syringes better. They agreed and got her a custom made body for her to subvert her subconscious into. Eventually, when he's older, Shaun will come into her clinic in hopes of having his cancer fully treated, but that'll be years from now when he's in his 70s.
Even though Strong isn't affected by the FEV in this timeline, he still holds that same barbaric and thuggish aura. He's not affiliated with any gangs, but he's no stranger to violence and lives in the part of town where shootings happen the most often. Despite his intimidating stature and hostile disposition, he still frequents the local libraries. More often than he'd care to admit. He loves old literature and has a bit of a soft spot for anyone who likes it too. He claims she's overexaggerating, but Daisy will usually sit and listen to him ramble for hours about the beauty and symbolism littered throughout Shakespeare's plays or Lovecraft's short stories.
Hancock is a well-known politician who is loved as much as he is hated. Ever since Piper outed him for his drug addiction and put into question his validity and dedication to his cause, he's been somewhat of a controversial figure in the political world. Despite it all, he has no ill feelings toward Piper or Publick Occurrences and is constantly hyping it up as a reliable news source. Although he owns quite a bit of cash, he's constantly pouring it into the slums of Boston. Some think this is just a publicity stunt to make up for his occasional violent outbursts (the drugs do a number on him since he's not a ghoul), he does it because he genuinely believes it's right for him to do. Besides, the people are friendlier there. Now his biggest concern is building up his reputation again so he can beat his brother when they run for mayor against one another. Him and his secretary, Fahrenheit, have a lot planned for the city and they'd like to see those ideas become reality as quickly as they can manage.
No one's really sure who Deacon is, and some are cautious of him for it. One thing that is certain about him is that he's a massive history buff, and is almost always in a museum of some kind. His favorite past time is striking up conversation with strangers who probably just want to be left alone while they browse the artifacts displayed, but he doesn't really care. Eventually, he happens to start a conversation with Nate and Nora in the Museum of Freedom and he quickly integrates himself into the couple lives. Him and Barbara like to show up spontaneously on their doorstep with a pack of beers in their hands and grins on their faces, but surely they don't mind.. even if they still have no idea what he does for a living.
X6-88 is another one who doesn't change much. He works as security for CIT along with Nick, and few other courser's, although none of them are as approachable as the detective seems to be. He's very strict about his job and carries it out very well, however, when Shaun eventually begins to attend the college, they sorta hit it off? Not really because either of them are particularly kind to one another, but more so because they like it when people are straight forward, intelligent, and blunt and they both just so happen to be that.
Dogmeat’s a stray that everyone seems to know. Officially, he’s Mama Murphy’s, but most everyone claims him. He appears whenever someone's in distress or wherever his owner's vision take him. He's a mysterious dog with strange motives.
Old Longfellow lives as a fisherman up in Maine. Nothing particularly changes with him, he's still got the same closed off personality that he'd always had. His wife got sick and died and few years back, but his daughter went and became and engineer in a similar area to DiMA. Longfellow thinks DiMA's a kook but his daughter thinks he's a scientific masterpiece and will often ask him questions about his creation or how his mind was built.
Gage grew up around gang violence and quickly learned to steal, lie, and hurt to get the things he wanted. He never really lived in a stable home and mostly just squatted or camped wherever he could. Despite living in poverty, whenever he and his friends managed to scrap together enough money together, they'd hitch a ride to Nuka World and spend the day there. He grew to have a soft spot for the amusement park as he got older, and took up a maintenance job for them (they don't do background checks.. or any skill checks for that matter, but Gage is a quick learner.)
MAJOR FACTIONS + SYNTHS
The synths operate in society along with the other robots of the fallout universe. But, unlike the Protectrons, they can actually hold conversations. Because of that, they normally take on your regular lower-class to lower-middle-class jobs. They don't tend to be rich at all in their lifetimes due to the stigma around treating them exactly like humans. A lot of those opportunities have been stripped away from them for those exact reason. Some of them still manage to find ways around it, but it's a lot harder than how it'd be if they were a regular human. For instance, synths can't start businesses on their own. Many argue that it's because they're just not meant to do anything on their own and that they were created to help humans, but no one can give an argument on how them doing their own thing would harm them either.
The Railroad is the main group that's actively against the stereotypes and discrimination faced by the synths. Although, they've received a lot of backlash for naming themselves after a former anti-slavery group (many don't think it's fair to compare 1800s racism to whether or not bots can work higher-paying jobs), they've still become a huge relief to many synths who are desperate to be treated the same as any other person would.
The Institute is just a college in the modern age. Despite them receiving some backlash from the public about whether or not the practice of creating human-like bots, arguing that it's too 'Frankenstein-like', the students and professors still continue to build and work to make more and more realistic, artificial creatures and beings. Mr. House helps to fund their research as he finds it useful and because he also went their for school.
The Minutemen don't exist. There's no need when you have the police force, the fire department, and properly operating Protectrons active in the community. Most of hose who were a part of this faction have taken up community-centered jobs like farming or social work.
The Brotherhood of Steel continue to exist as the US Military. They're more focused on defending the country than they are preserving technology and the only places you’ll see one is in military bases or along the coast.
MINOR FACTIONS
The Atom Cats (along with Sturges) are a group of young adults who work at the local Harley Davidson. Tuesdays and Thursdays they host poetry night and generally just open the place up as a garage for anyone interested in mechanics or just hanging out with a bunch of strangers.
Raiders and Gunners are just the Bloods and Crips of the modern world. They stick with their own groups and despise anyone from the opposite side of the tracks. Shoot outs and common between them and it's best to not be associated at all if you can help it.
The Children of Atom are a strange and niche group of zealots that migrated from somewhere in Virginia to spread their gospel. No one’s sure who they are or what they want, but they’re attracted to the pollution cities bring and generally advocate for the betterment of the earth.
Ever since DiMA's arrival, Acadia's national park has turned into a debate ground for different thoughts and philosophies. People from all over the world come to visit to talk and discover other points of views. There's even a Atomite Pastor that frequents the area and promotes the newly found religion with those who are willing to listen. A strange place for stranger people.

Fallout 4 Companion Height HCs
Cait: 5'4". Standard height, with a strong build (wide hips and shoulders, muscly).
Curie: 5'1". Soft and curvy. Has pianist fingers.
Danse: 6'2". Built like a brick wall.
Deacon: 5'9". The most Average Looking Man Ever.
Gage: 6'. Looks smaller than he is, mainly because he has horrible posture.
Hancock: 5'2". He has short king vibes, I can't explain.
MacCready: 5'7". Lanky. Lean muscle, mostly on his arms and legs (lugging a sniper rifle ain't easy).
Nick: 6'. I believe all gen-2's are a standard 6 feet tall.
Piper: 5'5". Standard height. Wishes she was taller.
Preston: 5'10", bordering on 6'. Wide shoulders, strong back and arms.
X6-88: 6'4". Built to be the scariest motherfucker you'll ever see, and that includes the whole "towering over you" thing.

Companions react to Sole giving them a scarf they knitted themselves?
Cait: She isn’t one for modest attire, especially with the Commonwealth’s warmer weather. But Cait is touched Sole took the time to make her something regardless. Cait refuses to actually wear it as a scarf, though; electing instead to use it as a belt or shawl.
Codsworth: “I shall endeavor to find a use for it, sir/mum!” Codsworth is worried the scarf will slip off if Sole ties it around him, so he uses it as a cloth to dust around Sanctuary.
Curie: “Oh, monsieur/madam! This is most thoughtful of you!” Curie loves that the scarf is both sentimental and practical for traversing the Commonwealth at night.
Danse: A scarf is a practical gift that will keep him warm at night and cozy in the barracks. Danse has no complaints.
Deacon: Immediately uses it in his next disguise. He ties it around his head like a Babuska headscarf and pretends to be an old woman buying wares in Diamond City. Sole thought it was funny, so now every time Deacon has the scarf on -- even wearing it as intended -- he speaks to them in a croaking, elderly voice.
Dogmeat: Likes it even more than his bandana. Shreds it when Sole leaves him alone in Sanctuary.
Hancock: Not only does Hancock love the scarf, but he puts on a little fashion show with it on the balcony of his Goodneighbor estate.
MacCready: “Didn’t think I wore enough layers already, huh?” He’s only teasing. MacCready uses it as both a scarf and blanket.
Preston: Of course Sole knitted it in Minuteman blue. Preston proudly dons it at their next meeting in the Castle.
Piper: Piper loves scarves. She wears her favorite green one every day. Sole couldn’t have given her a more thoughtful gift.
Nick: “I’ll have to wear this in the Agency’s next Christmas card.” He does.
X6-88: The only reason X6 agreed to wear the scarf is because it’s the same black as his trenchcoat. It shockingly makes him look even more badass. No one is sure how he pulled that off.

Companions React: Short Sole
Request: “I’ve seen many interpretations of this, but I would like to know your head canon of how companions treat/respond to a short sole.”
Note: Very brief mention of childhood malnutrition (as a concept) under X6-88’s reaction
Cait:
Oh, Cait loves this
It’s such an easy thing to make fun of Sole for, it’s her go-to joke
She won’t admit Sole’s short stature does come in handy when Sole squeezes into spaces she can’t
Curie:
She doesn’t really think anything in particular about Sole’s height
She will comment about how it must be inconvenient to not be able to reach things, but it’s more like she’s trying to figure out a solution
But other than trying to make sure things are accessible for Sole, she doesn’t make any comments
Danse:
Okay, sue him, he finds it a little funny
He remains professional about it, but watching a tiny Sole make Brotherhood members that have egos too big for their boots shrink in fear has him suppressing laughter
Will fully admit how handy it is to have someone small on a mission, considering his own stature, and the fact that Danse can boost them into spaces he can’t access himself
They make a great duo
Deacon:
Good luck, Sole
It’s pretty much nonstop with him
He does all of the classic jokes– pretending he can’t see them, resting his elbow on top of their head, etc.
Also makes a joke that if Sole wanted to, they could change their appearance and pretend to be the most lethal child in the Wasteland
Does appreciate the fact that their stature can make them hard to track and easier to hide
Comments that they have such a legendary reputation in the Commonwealth that something had to humble them to keep their ego from ending up larger than they are
Not that that would take much–
Gage:
Genuinely thinks their height will hinder their ability to be Overboss– they don’t come across as intimidating to him, and he doesn’t have much faith in them taking over Nuka World
He keeps this opinion until he hears them tearing the Pack leader to shreds (verbally) over undermining them
Not only is the Pack leader quieted for days after, half the raiders in the vicinity are
Gage has no doubts about Sole after that
Starts making jokes that he’s gonna bulk up his muscle so he can throw them into battle
Hancock:
He knows joking about it is a low blow– no pun intended
But he can’t help it when the opportunity arises
He gets bored of the jokes eventually, though the occasional jab will pop back up every now and then
Haylen:
She’s a little concerned about how their visibility in the field– lack thereof– may affect their safety
Other than that, she doesn’t particularly care
She does find amusement in watching them struggle to reach something, not that she’d ever admit it
She gives in and helps them pretty quickly
MacCready:
Loves it
They’re harder to spot, easier to hide, and overall, the perfect companion when it comes to his sniper instincts
He’s a little surprised at just how well Sole fits into his protocol for jobs they pick up
They work well together
Nick:
Makes a joke that he’s gonna reinvent balloons just so he can tie one to them at all times
Genuinely does have trouble keeping track of them in a crowd sometimes
Eventually, he just uses “Marco polo” to keep track of them, because even without them trying they can disappear from sight easily
It’s not uncommon to hear him yell out “Marco” in Diamond City
It’s also not uncommon to hear Sole’s voice call back from just a few feet away
Piper:
She isn’t above making a few jokes, just for the fun of it, but honestly finds their height to be the most unremarkable thing about them
That is to say, she finds so much about Sole interesting that their height doesn’t really occur to her often
She does sometimes compare them to Nat, though
Preston:
Preston wouldn’t make comments about it
He refuses, for the sake of respect, but internally he does find them quite adorable on occasion
Again, he’d never admit that aloud
He’d also never admit that sometimes when they’re struggling to reach something, he slows down when he’s walking over to help them, because it’s a little funny
X6-88:
While he’s in the Institute he doesn’t really comment, other than the tactical advantages that some of the other Companions have noted
He may ask some questions that could be considered insensitive– like if their height was due to malnutrition at an early age
Other than that, it doesn’t occur to him
After the Institute, when he’s finally comfortable with his personality emerging, he may make a joke or two
They’re usually delivered in a very serious tone, so it takes Sole a second to catch on
And hey, they may be the one being made fun of, but if it gets X6 to step out of his shell for even a second, they’ll take it
