In this Would You Rather, I get some pretty absurd as well as deep scenarios. I like WYR but sometimes, it's super irritating to see what people choose... But finding scenarios I actually want to interact with is more irritating 😅

One of the most keenly observed parts of Moonlight Chicken for me is the money pool Jim is included in, because there are versions of that all over the global south and global south communities in the diaspora. Where I'm from it's called sousou/susu, and our tradition of it comes from West Africa. Methods of mutual aid and community banking like that are an integral part of our cultures, especially in lower income communities and it just adds to the groundedness of this show for me, this thing that is so specific but also so universal. It's the same way I feel about the way the market and the vendors are portrayed, or the bus tout in Never Let Me Go episode 6; learning that cultures across the world share things like this is one of the reasons I love film and television from all over the map. It's like how @bengiyo and I learned that our cultures share the word 'lagniappe' meaning 'a little extra', it makes me feel connected to the wider world and the people in it.
Editing to add, also illegal lottery games and how people pick numbers to bet on based on dreams! That's also a pretty universal experience!

15 Questions for 15 Mutuals
Thanks for the tag @jamesunderwater !!!
1. Are you named after anyone? My first name is just a name that my parents happen to like, but my middle name was the first name of both my grandmother and my great-grandmother! Additional fun fact about that is that my dad's middle name is also a tribute to them!
2. When was the last time you cried? I think like a month ago? Surprising because I've generally been very stressed this month but somehow haven't cried about it😅
3. Do you have kids? Nope.
4. Do you use sarcasm a lot? No, I've never used sarcasm in my life (she said sarcastically).
Haha. The real answer is I don't use it very much online but I definitely use it A LOT in person.
5. What sports do you play/have you played? Back in my student athlete days: swimming and field hockey. I was actually very serious about both of them for a while, which is crazy because now I never exercise at all lol. I was also a lifeguard and a swim coach for a while, so basically I HATE pools now with a passion and never go to them, not even for fun😂
I also dabbled in rec league basketball for a bit when I was a child but that was ill fated, especially considering my lack of height.
6. What’s the first thing you notice about other people? I honestly don't know. Just, like, general demeanor I guess? Whether they seem like a nice person or not? Also, their hair.
7. Scary movies or happy endings? Happy endings. I love plot twists but I am not a fan of jump scares!😂
8. Any special talents? I think I'm pretty good at memorizing things quickly. I used to do a lot of plays, and I never really had to work at memorizing my lines. It just sort of happened. I usually memorized everyone else's too without trying haha. So I was probably an annoying castmate😅
9. Where were you born? I was actually born in South Africa! My family isn't from there, but my parents happened to be there for work at the time (journalism). But then we moved back home to the US, which is where I grew up.
10. What are your hobbies? I dabble in a lot of things. Just to name the main ones though: writing, reading, piano, music analysis/criticism (in the form of a very detailed and probably crazy spreadsheet that nobody else has seen😅), watercolor, bracelet making, and hopefully very soon I'll be able to add record collecting to that list :)
11. Do you have any pets? No. I wish!
12. All-time fave piece of media? OOOF how do I choose just one???? I'm going to cheat and say three things because they've defined me equally: Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Heart's Club Band by The Beatles, The West Wing (the TV show), and Hamlet
13. Fave subject in school? English! (literature)
14. Dream job? I do not dream of labor!!!😅 For real though. I am the opposite of ambitious. I don't care what I do for a living. My dream is to win the lottery or something so I can stop working entirely and just spend my days frittering the hours away, entertaining myself with my myriad hobbies. (Guess I should start buying lottery tickets!)
15. Eye colour? Brown.
Oh man 15 people is so many to tag lol. Sorry if you've already been tagged! No pressure tag to: @kay-elle-cee @thecasualauthor @casquecest @suzyq31 @nena-96 @charmsandtealeaves @practicecourts @evbell @eastwindmlk @annabtg @annasghosts @sophie-hatter-jenkins @petals2fish @abihastastybeans @siriuslychessi

You probably already know but in case you haven't heard since the tweets in your last post seem to have been made before this: The US did veto the UN resolution and the UK abstained. Goes to show how powerless the UN really is.
Yeah it was a foregone conclusion they'd veto it. The UN has always been a bedtime story for liberals and the US is the country who got so mad they let Palestine in the ICC and opened Israel to criminal charges that they passed a legislation that made it legal for the US to invade the Netherlands and extract anybody they were holding at the Hague. They're determined to exterminate Palestine by any means necessary, and if it leads to the creation of more organisations like the Islamic State after the Iraq war then so much the better.
All hopes are on the three resistance groups now I guess. And maybe Khomeini and Putin (this shit must be like winning the lottery for him), which is a thought that makes me want to die a little, but the US is clearly the bigger fish that needs frying. The resistance won in South Africa and Rhodesia and Vietnam, I believe Palestine can as well. And I hope they can get rid of fucking Abbas while they're at it.
Still, I wonder at what point this kind of humiliation and unrest will outweigh the US's money for the Arab nations. The people are unbelievably angry.
Edit: my bad, the Hague Invasion Act was passed in 2002 during the Afghanistan war. I misread this part:
When they failed to prevent Palestinian accession (to the International Criminal Court), Israel in particular went berserk. It began withholding Palestinian taxes it was legally obliged to transfer to the Palestinian Authority, imposed a variety of restrictions on Palestinian officials, and threatened to punish the PA in multiple additional ways. The US also made its displeasure clear, but directed the brunt of its retaliatory measures directly at the ICC. Washington at one imposed sanctions on Khan’s (Prosecutor of the ICC) predecessor, Fatou Bensouda, normally reserved for designated criminals. It was Washington’s way of informing the ICC it had no right to investigate either Israel’s crimes against the Palestinians or US conduct in Afghanistan. In 2002 the US had already adopted legislation known as The Hague Invasion Act, which authorizes the US military to invade The Netherlands, a fellow NATO member, and free any US citizen in ICC custody.

A Bulgarian tycoon under house arrest, Vassil “The Skull” Bojkov, on Thursday announced a new political project, the “Centre” party, standing in opposition to Bulgaria’s current ruling coalition.
“Bulgaria needs strong people with a sense of mission who can get the country out of its misery and lead it into the new world – something that those thieves can never do,” Bojkov said at the inauguration of the party in Sofia, attacking the current cabinet.
Party member Damyan Kachulski said the project comes at the right time geopolitically, with a “right-wing America, a strong Russia, a wise China, a reasonable Europe [and] a neighbouring strong Turkey” and it will seek the votes of “the silent majority”, referring to the low voter turnout in the 2021-2023 elections in Bulgaria.
Dessislava Kovacheva, film producer and screenwriter of history-themed features, said the party stood against “anti-Bulgarian propaganda”, aims to attract “those who shiver when they hear the national anthem” and will deal with “the traitors who we know by name”.
Bojkov attended the launch event despite being under house arrest following his return to Bulgaria last August after a period of exile in Dubai where he relocated to evade various charges. They included being a leader of an organised crime group, wrongfully obtaining cultural and historical riches, murder threats and orchestrating assassinations.
Since the 1990s, Bojkov has been associated with profitable businesses as well as alleged political influence and ties to organised crime. He started a chain of currency exchange offices and then expanded into the gambling industry in the 1990s, as well as into road construction, football and art collecting.
The tables were turned in 2020, when his profitable lottery business was nationalised. He then became a vocal critic of ex-PM Boyko Borissov and his GERB party, as well as their partners from the Movement for Rights and Freedoms. This was a major change in attitude: before his clashes with the GERB-led cabinet in 2020, Bojkovv had shied away from media attention or comments on political events.
In Dubai, he started a party called Bulgarian Rise, which is now defunct and replaced by his new opposition project.
Both Bojkov and his foes from GERB and Movement for Rights and Freedoms found themselves designated by the Global Magnitsky Act in 2021.
Several tycoons of his generation who amassed wealth and influence in the 1990s have been assassinated in recent years, triggering speculation about a tectonic change in Bulgaria’s criminal underground.
In May last year, Krassimir “Kyro” Kamenov and his wife were shot dead in Cape Town, South Africa. Last August, just before Bojkov’s return, business figure Alexei Petrov was assassinated in Sofia. In an interview in September, Bojkov denied having any major ties to Petrov and Kamenov.
The announcement of the new party comes when relations between the two blocs in Bulgaria’s ruling coalition are tense after just less than a year of rule. The planned rotation of Prime Ministers in March, which is now turning into a fight for power between GERB/UDF and We Continue the Change / Democratic Bulgaria, risks the stability of the cabinet.
“We don’t want another snap election but we won’t allow our alliance to be a cover-up for diverting the coalition’s main priorities,” PM Nikolai Denkov of We Continue the Change said on Thursday. He will file his resignation on March 6 to make way for GERB’s Mariya Gabriel.
On Monday, Denkov met Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv.

for the roadtrip au asks, please tell me literally anything about Joey, I love her sm :)
thanks!!!!
JOEY !!!!!!! [BREAKS INTO INCOHERENT SOBBING]
OK OK SO. My sweet girl joey's essentially the only "normal" person in the cast of the au, bc shes never lived in the zones and has no idea of its existence until a bunch of neon coloured assholes and their gremlin child show up at the 7/11 where she works [orwell keeps his past on the dl for good reason]. This gives her a sort of naivety in that she considers the concept of life in the zones to be this cool badass thing but doesnt realize the ramifications of living in such a violent environment.
Also i wrote her to be as bubbly and as extroverted as they come partially bc i love characters that are like that and partially bc you never see butch characters who ARE excitable and sweet yk? Joey's a total sweetheart and more than a bit goofy and she really balances out the tone of the story i think. Bc of orwell basically consuming every kind of movie and book and genre of music he could find when he escaped from the zones to make sense of things and to "catch up" to the outside world, Joey's got an insane level of knowledge on pop culture and so like takes it upon herself to sort of "educate" the 'joys.
Ive already mentioned that shes mixed but i didnt elaborate on that SO! joey's half mexican american and half white as ive mentioned, but her mother [aka the white half i mean. Youve seen orwell] was a white south african. This is partially bc a.) I can and will insert a bit of my home country into a story whenever fucking possible and b.) This also gives joey a bit of a cultural mix too, if that makes sense. Shes not typically american bc of the difference in the general culture of the usa and of south africa so her household, even after her mother's passing, still retains that mix. She also cant speak afrikaans for shit either my girl has LOST the multilingual lottery [she can understand both spanish and afrikaans just fine tho]

From Swakopmund to the lodge in Damaraland was relatively boring and extremely hard on the car. After leaving the city we stopped at a shipwreck that ran aground on the beach in 2008 and was turned into a tourist attraction 30 miles north of Swakopmund. The road was good but not long after the stop at the ship we were back on gravel. There was not much to see for 110 km and then mainly black women and children trying to lure you in to buy gem stones or other artifacts they produce. They live in poverty in clay huts in the dust and one cannot thank fate enough that the first and most important lottery win we made was being born in the countries and families we come from. It seems almost impossible to get out of there and break with the poverty and the traditions of these tribes.
The lunch stop was at the Cactus & Teagarden restaurant in a small dwelling along the way: basic but very good. After we continued on to our final destination the road got so bad that we could not find any speed that would not rattle the car apart. We thought if this goes on like this we would never make it to the day‘s end. We had to reduce the speed to 20 km/h, tried to drive on the shoulders with the risk of getting stuck in the sand but nothing really worked. This went on and on until after an hour it finally got better and we could increase the speed to an acceptable level. At 2:30 we arrived at the Damara Mopane Lodge. Another one of Gondwana‘s beautiful sites!
One of the employees offered to wash our car which we gladly accepted for 150,- Namib Dollars, about USD 6,-. In general prices in South Africa as well as Namibia are incredibly low. Our bar bill yesterday for 4 large beers, a bottle of red wine and a Gin and Tonic was USD 10,-!
Tonight there will be another buffet dinner and tomorrow we shall go to the west of the Etosha pan with the first day off after 9 days of driving. We plan to do some work on the car and check it through after the rough roads so far.
