Century Egg Macaque is very confused and bitey
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
referencing this Century Egg au post (Macaque bit a bunch of gods to protect Wukong when the king's health crashed after the Egg's delivery).
Macaque was at Wukong's bedside, newborn Xiaotian wrapped snuggly in his scarf asleep, when the doors to the former Attendant's bedroom opened.
The black-furred monkey's fur is immediately standing on end like a frightened cat - he rarely would miss the sounds of approaching footsteps, but his mind must be far too occupied to notice.
The appearance of the Queen Mother herself does little to calm Macaque's nerves, especially upon seeing the large monkey-claw-shaped gashes on her forearms.
At the sight of his guilt and possibly fear, the Queen lets out a sighing laugh.
Queen Mother: "Do not worry Liu'er Mihou. I know what it is like to worry so much for someone that you lash out at all that separates you. You but up a fair fight, even with so much magic sedative in your bloodstream. " Macaque, quietly: "M'sorry about the arm ... it just when... when Wukong's eyes closed and he lost his strength I felt...?" Queen Mother, knowing: "Hopeless." Macaque: "Yeah." Queen Mother: (*kneels to get a better look at the baby*) Queen Mother: "They're truly beautiful. To think such a tiny thing could bring the entire Court of Heaven to a standstill amazes me." Macaque: "We're calling them Xiaotian. Wukong picked it." Queen Mother, her voice fond: "It's a fine name. One that all of big Heaven and the Realms beyond will know soon enough." Macaque, nervous: "What do you mean?" Queen Mother: "You trial was successful in a way. King Yama has agreed to acquit your unlawful resurrection in light of the circumstances. Preparations are being made to charge the White Bone Spirit with conspiracy to commit treason." Macaque: "But there's a catch isn't there?" Queen Mother, nods: "You will be required to face her in a secodary trial, and protect yourself against her own defence." Macaque, shuddering: "Ugh..." Xiaotian: (*grumpy squeak! at the sudden movement*) Macaque, quickly checking the baby: "Sorry bud." (*kisses face*) Xiaotian: (*satisfied grumble*) Macaque, eye locked on the baby's face: "If... if it means they and Wukong stay safe from her, I'll do it." Queen Mother: "I knew you would. I must warn you though... Erlang awaits a rematch." Macaque, surprised: "You're joking me..." Queen Mother, amused smile: "It is true! In your fury to protect your mate, you gave him quite the injury. I've never seen him with such bruises!" Macaque: (*smiling proudly to himself*)
Erlang has like a huge bruise covering his face, and his eye is swollen shut for weeks after the Egg's arrival. Word quickly spreads (via Nezha being annoyed that Macaque "practically ignored him" during the frenzy) about the general's injury, and celestials are shocked to learn that it was cause by no other than the Great Sage's mate! And by accident no less! Erlang is taciturn about the matter, though that could be because his lip has swollen over too.
Macaque gets challenged to a lot of duels over the coming weeks - most he ignores or shadow-portal's away. This is where he learns that his silly Brotherhood-era nickname is apparently his legal title in Heaven. He cringes each time an official unironically refers to him as "Great Sage Informing Wind", Tieshan giving him a cheeky sibling-esque smile all the while.
The day that Wukong finally awakes from his medical coma; Macaque had been asleep at his side, clealry run down by the (still awake) Xiaotian excitedly running his tiny hands through either parent's fur.
Wukong makes a joyous gasp at the sight of his baby - healthy and here. It takes a moment for Macaque to stir awake before he realises that his King and Mate (!!!) has finally awoken! Kisses and hugs abound before Macaque thinks to alert anyone else of Wukong's return to the conscious world.
Bonus: Tang, Pigsy, Sandy, and the Ao-Longs have been running around the Celestial Realm as often as possible during this time (tho Tang worried at first if the time dilation myth was true) and the whole realm is super confused but just accepting that the Monkey King's pilgrim brothers are just Here now.

The Samadhi Flower
Spicynoodles Tangled AU chapter 1
Summary: The Samadhi Flower is the last chance to save Queen Iron Fan's life, and her husband will do whatever he can to save her.
Word count: 2.9k
Warnings: Near death experience, sickness, curses, child birth, c-section, forced pregnancy and LBD is really creepy at the end. Those last two go together.
A/N: You need context for this, here's the AU Masterpost it has the context. These first two-ish chapters are before the kidnapping btw.
____________________________________________________________________________________________
Once, long, long ago, the Queen of the Heavens descended to the mortal realm and planted a singular seed.
This small seed held a fraction of the Queen's power, an infinitesimal amount for a goddess to give up, but nearly unimaginable to the vast majority of mortal beings.
From that seed, the goddess’s gift to the world below, grew a magic fire flower. The Samadhi Flower
It had the ability to heal the sick and injured, cure even the most devastating curses, chase away dark forces from the possessed, and even save one from the brink of death itself if used properly.
And it was powerful, just being near the flower’s influence would heal one of any ailments.
Though much like its creator, the flower had a darker side. Its creator was a goddess of destruction after all.
The Samadhi Flower created the most powerful flames ever seen in all the realms. Its heat scorched the land around it, turning it into an inhospitable barren waste that few would dare venture far into, the flower's healing powers could be felt from the edge of the burned lands.
The Queen had instructed the flower to protect itself from those who might use its power for their own selfish desires, so it harnessed the destructive powers to do as it was told.
To further protect the flower she had graciously gifted the world, the Queen decreed that only one of her divine blood could truly control the power of the flower, and that the flower could only be picked by one willing to risk the fury of the Queen of Heaven to save another they cared for more than themself.
When the Queen thought her gift was safe from greed and power hungry mortals, she left it to the mortal realm to be used as she intended.
And there it was.
The Samadhi Flower.
Sitting in the center of a burnt, barren land, the symbol of its power scorched into the ground it grew from.
The fabled gift from the Queen Mother Of The West herself.
The last chance he had to save the love of his life.
“Brother, are you sure about this? The legends say the Samadhi Flower will burn any who dare attempt to pick it.” His ears flicked in acknowledgement of his sworn brother’s warning.
DBK silenced the dragon prince with a glare. His other brother was not so easily silenced.
“We still have time to figure something else out, we don't need to resort to this.” The golden furred monkey said with a gesture towards the flower.
“No, if we delay any longer, Iron Fan will die.” He grunted.
“And if you try to pick that flower, you will die. Even if you somehow manage to get the stupid weed out of the ground, she could still die from the damned thing burning her, or from giving birth, and that leaves the kid an orphan!” The monkey king argued.
“If it comes to that, I trust you and Mihou will fulfill your duty as our child's godparents.” DBK said.
The monkey stared up at him with a fiery rage in his eyes.
“Then let me try, I'm a lot more-”
“No. The Samadhi Flower is very selective about who it will allow to pick it.” He cut his brother off.
“Besides, I doubt the Queen Mother would appreciate you picking her flower, Wukong.” He added in a late attempt to lighten the mood.
The monkey’s tail lashed around angrily and he clenched his fists in frustration. Instead of hitting him, Wukong merely stomped the ground, hard enough to leave an indent.
“I fuckin hate you.” He growled with crossed arms.
He nodded to his brothers and turned to the Samadhi Flower, glowing with an immortal fire. He approached the flower and before his brothers could interfere or try a last minute attempt to stop him, he thrust his hands into the ground and grabbed onto the flower’s roots.
The ground itself burned.
His thick fur caught fire and the heat blast filled his eyes with tears.
Squinting through his tears, he could see his mate's image in the dancing flames. She was alive and healthy. That was the only thing he wanted, being without her was worse than any pain this flower could dish out.
He dug his heels in and pulled.
For a split second, he thought he saw someone else in the fire, a woman with a harsh frown on her face stared at him with dark, hard eyes.
Then the woman gave him a subtle nod and he ripped the flower from the ground.
He fell back into his brothers’ waiting arms.
“Fucking hells, you got it. You actually got it you crazy bastard!” Wukong shouted gleefully, shaking his arm aggressively.
He hissed in pain and pulled away from his brother.
“Are you alright?” Ao Lie asked.
He shook his head and staggered to his feet.
“I will be.” He grunted.
“We must hurry this back to Iron Fan.” He said.
Wukong nodded and formed his cloud underneath their feet.
“Hold on tight boys, we're going home.”
XXX
DBK paced anxiously outside of the royal delivery room.
The birth had been going well so far. Iron Fan’s sickness, though now Wukong was starting to think it was some form of curse designed to imitate illness which explained why none of the previous treatments had worked. Whatever it was, the Samadhi Flower had cured her of it.
They got back just in time too, Mihou had told them that Iron Fan would have died if they were even a day later.
DBK had been right, they really had been out of time.
Ao Lie came in with another tray of tea, from the smell of it he made all their personal favorites.
Out of the three of them, DBK had the experience with birth and the process it entailed. Ao Lie had been present and assisted in the births of many other dragons, family members or otherwise, he helped his own mate birth their daughter years ago. He had never seen someone so calm at their own mate’s labor.
And Wukong himself had served as a midwife more times than he could count for his people, though he trusted his mate more than he trusted himself to handle a more difficult birth. Mihou was Iron Fan’s sworn brother too so she probably felt more comfortable with him tending to her.
He took the tea Ao Lie offered and forced himself to relax externally. He had been through this enough times to know that the only thing he could do right now was keep his cool, help his brother stay calm, and wait for the results.
XXX
Liu'er Mihou shouldn't be scared, he had helped deliver countless babies before and performed many cesarean sections in his lifetime. He was no stranger to the struggles of birth.
So why was he stressing so much over this one?
Iron Fan was his sister, but he had helped many close to him give birth before.
It could be added stress from her near death experience only than a week ago, or it could be his aid.
He glanced up as Ivory entered the main room with a bin of cool water for his sister.
The ice demon always set him off for reasons he could never explain, but he knew to trust his instincts and not trust her.
He usually tried to keep the lesser advisor away from his sister, except for when absolutely necessary and right now, she was the only ice demon in the palace. He needed her powers.
Iron Fan was burning up and Ivory's ice magic worked wonders at keeping the Queen cool. That didn't mean he would trust the bone white demon.
He signaled the doctor with his tail, they quickly came to his side.
“I don't think I can turn the baby, I'm starting to think I'll have to go for a cesarean.” He told them.
They frowned and felt around for themself.
“That baby is pretty stuck in there. You'll probably have to.” They agreed.
“I was really hoping I wouldn't.” He sighed.
Cesareans were tricky, vertical or horizontal, though in his experience a horizontal was much easier, but he didn't have the time for that one. He had to get the baby out soon.
“Can you get everything ready? I'm going to tell her.” He requested quietly.
The doctor nodded and set about preparing the birthing room for surgery.
“Ivory, go tell Wukong that the Queen needs a cesarean.” He ordered.
The ice demon nodded and bowed then swiftly left the room.
Mihou went to his sister's side and tapped her arm gently. She opened her now burnt magenta eyes and frowned.
“There's trouble.” She guessed.
“Yes, the baby is stuck, the best thing to do is a cesarean.” He said.
She closed her eyes and leaned her head back with a soft groan.
“Are you okay with that?” He asked.
“You're the expert here. Do what you think is-” she broke off with a shout as a particularly strong contraction hit her.
“I'll get started.” He told her.
Everything was prepared for the surgery, he ordered Ivory to fetch a healer and prepare a bath for the baby.
He took a deep breath and made the first incision.
XXX
Mihou gently washed the newborn in a warm bath as Lihua got the incision healing. The young demon was pretty good at giving injuries a healing kickstart. He was very glad when Ivory had returned with her.
Iron Fan was resting, he had given her a few heavy pain killers so she wouldn't feel her skin being knit back together. Sometimes healing injuries like that felt worse than receiving them.
She would recover quickly, she had always healed fast, it was why she lasted so long against the sickness-curse that nearly took her life, and she could be back to her normal life soon. With her son of course.
The newborn was a little boy, he had floppy little bull ears, little spots where horns would eventually grow and a cute little tail that looked like a paint brush. And he had a lot of hair already.
It was bright red and silky soft.
He was already so excited to introduce his sister to her little boy.
XXX
DBK sat up as soon as the door opened, Mihou gave him a tired, happy smile.
“Would you like to meet your son?” He asked.
He practically tore the doors off the hinges in his rush to get in the room.
The love of his life was resting in the delivery bed, or she had been until he disturbed her.
His queen shot him a fiery, tired glare before a soft smile graced her lips.
“Darling, it's so wonderful to see you well.” He said, kneeling at her bedside.
“It's wonderful to be well.” She said, cupping his cheek with her free hand.
Her fingers twirled around the burnt and permanently damaged fur.
She leaned closer to him and he wrapped his arms around her. They sat together for a quiet moment of peace before Iron Fan spoke again.
“Do you want to hold him?” She asked.
He nodded eagerly and she gently placed their little boy in his hands.
He fit perfectly in his palms.
“He's so tiny.” He almost squealed.
Iron Fan laughed softly and leaned on his shoulder, reaching over to run her fingers through their son's fluffy red hair.
“Perfect, isn't he?” she mused.
“Yes, our precious Red Son.” he said, nuzzling her forehead gently.
He overheard his brothers trying to leave quietly.
“I want one.”
“Me too.”
“Can we get one?”
“Not now…”
Their voices faded as the pair of monkeys shut the door softly behind them.
DBK shifted into a more comfortable position and held his wife and son as they both succumbed to the exhaustion of the last day.
This, holding his family close to him, was a gift, it was a blessing they were even alive at all.
Their survival was in a way a gift from Iron Fan’s estranged mother.
Their child bore the mark of her gift to the realm on his back.
DBK swore he saw the goddess in the flames of the flower when he picked it. Even if their relationship wasn't the best, she didn't want her daughter and grandchild to die.
Even if she never did anything else for them or even acknowledged her grandson, he would be forever grateful for her gift to him.
His wife and son.
XXX
LBD slipped quietly into the humble house she had built deep into the woods. Far east from the capital city of the Ironbull Empire.
It was far from her preferred home, but if all went well, she would be returning there soon enough.
Regardless of her preferences, this spot was carefully chosen; it was far enough from most settlements that her residence was completely unknown, yet in an area known for having some isolated hermits living in it.
Her activities could go unnoticed yet if she was seen no one would think anything of it. The cost of making a portal to go back and forth between the capital was worth it.
This was the perfect place to plan and continue her experiments.
Her thrall opened the door for her.
“Welcome back my lady.” He said enthusiastically as he always did.
“How was your time away?” He asked.
She didn't respond, instead she went to the hidden staircase and descended into her dungeon to check on her little project’s process.
“You've been caring for my project while I was away?” She asked as she descended the stairs.
“Of course my lady.”
“Good. My visit to the capital has proved quite informative.” She told him.
“Oh?”
“The Samadhi Flower has been used to save Queen Iron Fan, her son now holds its power within him.” She said.
“The grandson of Xiwangmu.” he chuckled.
Oh yes, Xiwangmu’s attempt to prevent “mortals” from truly having control of her power was based on the fact she never thought one of her own would settle in the realm. Quite a humorous twist of fate really.
She stepped off the last step and approached the shadowy figure sitting in a cell of bone and ice.
The monkey growled softly at her approach. Clearly they were still doing just fine. Their process was coming along quite nicely. Her thrall didn't have any new injuries, so her little project had been very well behaved while she was gone.
That was deserving of a reward.
“What is to be done with the young prince?” Her thrall questioned as she prepared a nice treat for her well behaved monkey demon.
“Do you still plan to take him as your own?” He asked gleefully, knowing exactly how to get the monkey's undivided attention.
“Well, if all goes well, I won't have to resort to that quite yet.” She said with a glance over her shoulder at her experiment.
The monkey bared their fangs and their tail twitched in agitation, but otherwise they made no protest. How could they?
The icy blue chains blocked their magic and forced them to remain in this bitterly cold hell.
Laohu silently watched the witch come around with a tray of fruit. A reward for their perceived good behavior. They would have bitten the thrall if they hadn't felt so sick in the time the witch was gone.
The witch gave them a cold smile and oh so graciously offered them the tray. Laohu knew better than to refuse the witch's “charity” and accepted the “reward”.
They were to busy checking it for possible danger that they didn't notice the witch sneak closer to them until her long, boney fingers started working out the knots in their extra fluffy fur.
Laohu froze, they always did. The witch hummed to herself, uncaring of their discomfort.
Begrudgingly, they allowed the witch to groom their fur. It was necessary to deal with their now thick fur, and they couldn't do it themself anymore, but Laohu hated every moment of it.
The witch took something shared between family, between mates, and twisted it into something rotten.
It made their skin crawl and their stomach churn.
Qiuyue, their mate, should be the one going through their fur, not this witch.
Laohu suffered through the involuntary grooming session, not giving much of a response to the witch's comments about how they should take better care of themself for the child's sake, as if the witch would actually care about them, and finally relaxed enough to be able to eat once the witch and her thrall returned to their dwellings above.
They glared at the stone ceiling above them, then sighed and buried themself in the small nest they had made. The witch was cruel, but she provided them with the necessities to successfully produce what she wanted.
It was better than sleeping on the cold floor, but at the same time they didn't want to accept anything from the witch.
They curled up and wrapped their tail around their baby bump, around the little one who the witch would do gods know what to regardless of the outcome.
Laohu rested a hand on their bump and silently promised their child that they would find some way to get out of this, to keep their little lily safe from their “mother” and get back to their mate and cub.

WELCOME TO ME GOING CRAZY THEORIZING ABOUT LMK
Tumblr media
So who the hell is this woman?!
I already saw some theories of she being Guanyin (Wich doesn't make sense because she does appear one time with the leaves that were forgotten in jttw) and theories of she being Nüwa, the creation goodness... So Wich one of them is she???
WELL NEITHER, because I think she is The Queen Mother of the west ( or Xiwangmu)
But first.. Who is Xiwangmu? She is the most powerful goodness in the Chinese pantheon, she is also married to the Jade Emperor, the owner of the garden of the peachs of immortality and In some versions has complete control over life, death, creation and destruction. She went to various changes during time, but the most famous version of her is that she used to be a Demon that brought disasters to the world, causing her to be depicted sometimes with tiger features, and after repenting her evil ways she achieved enlightenment.
So why do I think Queen Mother is the mysterious woman? Well, since she has completed control of disasters, chaos and creation, and we assume that she created MK and MK is know for Harbinger of chaos, then it is safe to assume that she is Queen Mother
But why can't she be Nüwa? Well, Nüwa is only know for creating mankind and some animals, monkeys not included( As far as I know, I might be wrong here) and we see a bunch of stone animals on the next scene, so that only leaves us with queen mother, wich yes.. I don't have that may proves but we only got to see one frame of her, so I guess it makes a little Sense
That's it, I might be completely wrong, just wanted to share my thoughts

My knowledge of fyss!Kui Mulang is not the best because since the fyss version is in English and the book is extra dense with many characters with different names, it has not been easy for me. I know more about Jttw!Kui Mulang. Jttw is easier for me because there is a version in my native language. But about Kui Mulang and his wife, Kui Mulang kidnapped his wife against her will. He also does not hesitate to hurt her If she does something agaisnt him. Furthermore, the moment Kui Mulang is caught, he betrays his wife and tries to put all the blame on her, saying that she was the one who seduced him.
Many fsyy characters have different names. So I think that's why not many recognize Azure Lion. He was part of the Jie Sect but is later turned into a mount when he loses. I think lmk is not taking fsyy as a prequel to Jttw like New gods. However, I feel like it gives more depth to his character? You know, imagine fighting on the side that accepts you because the other side doesn't really like your kind (from what I understand, there may be good reasons as well as discrimination against the Yaoguai) and then you're humiliated into being the mount of an immortal. And many centuries pass, and you gain respect and connections, but they still don't see you anymore than that. He also becomes very angry when he is not invited to Xiwangmu's peach banquet. I'm not saying this to defend him, but the topic of the Yaoguai and how they are perceived is interesting.
this person is answering questions about fsyy. It's the only blog I've found, so they might be able to give you the info you want to know about fsyy!Kui Mulang. I hope it helps you a lot if you ever need it! :)

I'm sorry if I send a lot of asks to reply. I tried to send a response to my ask but apparently my reply is too long??? I'm still not very familiar with Tumblr
Checked my inbox after me and my sib discussed media and honestly it made my mood go from “aw” to “OOOH” so quickly haha
Fyss!Kui Mulang will remain a mystery for a while… we gotta accept this fate my friends. At least until I do a little digging and end up launching him on top of my faves like I did with Erlang and Red Son— AHEM anyways!
I did not know he tried to victim blame his wife.. what the HECK dude… what is wrong with you… my guy.. my dude! What the heck!
Also Yaoguai were always very interesting imo… like at some point it makes you wonder if the hate and judgement they get is justified or not. Yes there are yao that eat people or kill them and do things that aren’t great but what of the ones that are just living? The ones who fight on the side of “good”? Makes you wonder about it. (I did learn that yaoguai stands for creatures that stand outside the natural order/cannot be explained. Which is fun!) Kind of interesting how he was turned into a mount… hm. That’s.. certainly something! Especially for a sentient being capable of thought and speech as eloquent as any other immortal he comes across!
I kind of wish they’d taken fyss as an inspiration ngl.. they did show the Nezha and Ao Bing fight scene but it was obviously shown as more aggressive (in the book, Nezha just smacked him while Ao Bing was the one who launched the first attack—meant to he comedic but also horrifying moment for the Ao family) and it’s funny how they introduced Nü Wa.. because they’ll have to address which version of her it is (in some myths she is the Jade Emperor’s daughter (fyss iirc), in other’s she marries her brother—options!) —but! Anyways, this was a fun read
Definitely makes me think about Azure Lion and Kui Mulang’s characterizations… hm hm hm

If that were to come to pass, then I believe that it would be in Century Egg Au. For one, Jade Emperor and Queen Mother are for more involved with Wukong and his family in that au, therefore there'd be more opportunities for them to discover the truth. For another, Guanyin is their daughter's reincarnation, they know this and they know she adopted Wukong, but that mad him her ward not her son in their eyes. But even so, while midwifing it is entirely possible that Queen Mother may have noticed soemthing about Wukong's soul, some never before noticed connection to her own and to Guanyin, and whilst he was in a comatose state she may have wanted to do her own research.
It's possible, if she were to loon through Guanyin's bloodlines and reincarnations, she may discover that amongst those 31+ reincarnations before she reached enlightenment Guanyin, or rather Sonzi, had a short stint as a monkey demon. A Stone Monkey demon, whom the now know form Wukong, is capable of producing a stone egg that could potentially remain dormant for many centuries before hatching. They also know that if the pregnancy of a stone monkey has a high mortality rate, courtesy of the very monkey, she just barely saved from Diyu with her daughter's help. So if she were to look for the cause of death for this particular life of Sonzi...
Death by Egg Incubation.
Sonzi's life had ended in this reincarnation while trying to do the very same thing Wukong had just barely succeeded in. And if she were to look into the egg, well... that was quite the surprise for her and JD when she brought the news to him. It's not every day you unknowingly midwife for your own firstborn grandson. What they'll do with thsi information is still up to debate, afterall Wukong is most certainly too fragile right now to hand that sort of revelation without incident and the last thing they want is another rampaging monkey who would likely end up hurting himself in the process.
It would def be the Century Egg Au that finds it out first, especially since it's the closest Wukong has been with the royal family beyond his Orchard attendant days.
After the Monkey King managed to be stabilized after nearly dying bringing his child into the world, the Empress that midwived for him felt a creeping suspcion whenever she saw Guanyin - the reincarnation of her eldest daughter - fret over the resting demon. As if she were looking at a torn painting.
The Queen Mother asks for permission from King Yama to see her deceased children's Scrolls in order to see if any of them happened to produce offspring in their different incarnations.
Second-born Yin Wuming was obvious; she bore three dutiful sons all allied with Heaven, despite the tragedies caused by her youngest child. No other children noted.
Zhinu's scroll does not give a clear answer. She and her mortal love and their children are in a state beyond simple life or death.
But then the Queen Mother comes across the Scroll of her eldest daughter. Once her the Jade Emperor's firstborn Princess Songzi, now the Bodhisattva Guanyin - the Scroll is very thick with records of her intermitting lives. And feeling a hunch she unrolls it to take a look.
She drops the scroll to the ground at the words and image that reveals itself to her. A creature she once thought as no more than a beast smiling back at her as her dear daughter once had, her fur and hair a familiar warm orange-gold like the sunset.
"Shí Nǚ Zúzhǎng - Shíhuā - Last Matriarch of the Stone Monkey Troop of Flower Fruit Mountain
Cause of Death: Sacrificed Dao to create Stone Egg"
The section of the scroll that would normally explain any issue or surviving bloodline had been redacted - as if someone happened to have removed their name elsewhere among the Books of the Dead.
The Queen Mother collapses as the revelation kicks in.
The creature that had nearly torn Heaven asunder to ensure the safe birth of his child - had been born from her daughter's second life, a life ended by the same means to ensure the next generation.
She had just delivered her own great-grandchild and hadn't even realised it.
She runs to her husband first - her eyes inflamed with tears, joyous and guilty. The Jade Emperor can only hold his wife as she wails. How could she have been so blind!? The flames that should have killed the Monkey King could not do so, as it was her own Samadhi Fire that fueled the Furnace. The power that rained destruction upon Heaven, as terrible as it was beautiful, was her own.
The Jade Emperor is completely silent. He simply has no words.
The royal pair peak into the room where Sun Wukong rests, his mate and his cub at his side. Liu'er Mihou is haggard with worry as he sacrifices every bit of sleep and warmth to keep their child sated, the King himself resting as if he hadn't just preformed a miracle. The baby, the couples "little Heaven", blissingfully unaware of how many lives they enriched.
The demon family looking as they themselves once did when they welcomed Songzi into the world.
Even the Emperor cannot hold back the tears.
When the royal pair attempt to gain their bearings, they realise that the daugher that they had exiled so long ago for marrying a demon, had spent the last 500 years ensuring that the King's island stayed safe and undisturbed as he incubated his child. Did Tieshan know? Had she sensed a connection between them? Had Nezha - whom the monkey has always treated as a little brother?
For the first time in thousands of years, the gods feel humbled.

Erlang does tell, that's how the Peach Maidens and Gold Star learned about the baby. Or rather, that the baby had arrived. They all zip over to Lao Tzu's lab for congratulations. When the Emperor and Queen Mother learn, they also send a courtesy congratulatory visit, 'Twas the least they could do after everything
referencing.
Yesss! Btw I had no idea that the seven maidens mentioned in JTTW were supposed to be JE and the Queen Mother's daughters until I drafted up the Celestial Family tree XD
The Orchard Maidens immediately drop whatever they were doing (fruit baskets, wine cups, ladders etc) to zoom over to Lao Tzu's lab and finally get a look at the baby!
The sheer amount of delighted squealing and awes that fill the room when the Maidens reach the lab nearly deafens Mac.
Yuebei is tiny, and has such lovely black fur and glowing ears. The Maidens praise and fret over Wukong as when he was a fellow attendant. Wukong is just smiling and wagging his tail like a happy dog getting praised. Yes! His baby is so cute and strong!
Meanwhile, Macaque is covering his ears and hiding at Wukong's side cus he isn't sure how welcome he is in Heaven rn... only for the Maidens to immediately recognise him as "their littlest sister's [PIF] friend!" and immediately start praising him for being so protective of his mate and baby!
Tumblr media
And ofc the second the girls see MK, they are asking so many questions! Who is this handsome little cub? Is he their son? Oh! His babas are the pig-man and the teacher outside? How adorable! A lovely mixed family! They are overall super adoring of their adoptive little brother's new troop, and act like delighted aunties towards Yuebei, MK, and Bai He (someone they swear that they recognise).
Erlang ofc got eye-lazered by a startled Yuebei, so he just left his congrats card and "It's a Girl!" balloon at the lab before heading off to inform the Emperor and Queen Mother. Lao Tzu jokingly suggests getting the shadowpeach couple eye protection incase Yuebei has "trigger eyes".
The Queen Mother is super intriuged by Yuebei's arrival, especially since it's become common knowlegde *why* Sun Wukong sought out so many immortalities. She is the first of the royal couple to come get a look and offer her blessing - she briefly stops at the sight of the baby girl's midnight-black hair and big blue eyes; the little face reminding her of her own daughters. She certainly guffaws at the knowledge that Yuebei tried to eat the Samadhi Fire before she was even born! Wukong is pleasantly surprised at how kind the Queen is to him given the circumstances, but evidently Yuebei's presence quells at lot of anger. The Queen Mother makes a point of sending many gifts for Yuebei's man yue (one month celebration) to show her good faith.
The Jade Emperor sends a bottle of peach wine in the mail. He's currently holed up in his office teriffed of what Yuebei will grow up to be/what his wife will do to him when she gets back from hearing about Wukong's troubles during the Journey.

I wanna tell yall that I had a LMK-focused dream once where Bai He was in the Celestial Realm during S4 (no explanation), and in the "safe house/palace" away from the Brotherhood she found an old man lying gravelly injured in a bed and went to comfort him
The man was the Jade Emperor. Fatally wounded by Azure Lion but swept away by his dear wife before the final blow.
Bai He is barely the size of the emperor's palm, and she climbs up on the bed and scoots over to him and asks if he's ok.
The Emperor, delirious with pain and fading fast, whispers; "Oh Zhinu... I was wondering where you where."
His eyes close and Bai He assumes he's napping. She crawls next to him and falls asleep to keep him company.
Then a dream sequence occurs where the Jade Emperor is staring down three much larger emperor-figures, holding Bai He in his arms.
White Robed Emperor: "You can't be serious!" Black Robed Emperor: "She's not even legitimate!" Red Robed Emperor: "It will be a great mistake." Jade Emperor, softly: "I don't care. She's perfect." *looks down at Bai He with the sad fondness of a grandfather*
Bai He wakes up in the arms of the Queen Mother. The celestial tigress walking solemnly away from the Emperor's bedroom. The Queen's face is stained with tears.
Bai He: "Is the grandpa man going to be ok?" Queen Mother: "He's in a far better place now child... can you tell me your name?" Bai He: "I'm Bai He." Queen Mother, satisfied nod: "Princess White Lily. A beautiful title for a little girl." Bai He: "???"
and it ended there.
Btw; Bai He had cat ears like my cat demon idea for her. The Queen Mother and JE made a point of petting them in the dream.
It giving me Ideas

First Princess Songzi to the Stone Matriarch to Guanyin:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
referencing my updated "Celestial Family Tree" + what the monkey doing there? and the Stone Monkeys lived on FFM theory.
>:3 huehue been cooking on this au/theory for a while now
First Princess Songzi had become so digusted by her father comparing humanity to little more than beasts, that when she reincarnated she was reborn as a Stone Monkey/Shí Bǎomǔ.
A Stone Monkey who would become the last Stone Matriarch of Flower Fruit Mountain. She ruled for many years, fair and merciful in a way unknown to demonkind at that time. Her orange-gold fur seemingly glowed in the sun as she watched over her troop, her eyes warm with the light of Heaven itself.
Until the Great Flood.
Being creatures not meant for deep water, the Stone Monkey troop that had survived on Earth for so long had found themselves all but wiped out within a single tidal wave.
The Stone Matriarch wailed and cried for any of her lost troop to answer her for years. Her own mate among the missing and presumed dead.
There was not enough food to feed those who had survived the initial waves, and not enough clean water to sate the thirsty. From her grief, the Stone Matriarch and those who had survived began making preparations.
Preparations for the Matriarch to fling a light into the future.
The Stone Palace which had housed countless generations of families was left how it was on the day the flood took them all away. Signs left to tell the next generation or whomever found it that; "We were here. We lived and loved and died. Let the Earth remember us." They wrote upon the walls of the caverns and painted the rocks with their stories so that whomever found them would Know.
The Matriarch found the highest peak of the mountain, one which saved her from the flood waters, and began praying to Hòutǔ and Nüwa (as was customary) as she dug her final resting place. The goddesses of the deep earth and of creation were of great importance to their kind.
The Matriarch buried a peach seed beside her in case that if she failed, her body would at least feed the children of later generations with the fruit.
And she went into her deepest sleep.
The Boulder utop Flower Fruit Mountain had not been there since the "beginning of the Earth" as the tales said - but it might as well have to the yaoguai that settled on the island once the flood waters receeded. The young goddess Nüwa not only created a new Heavenly Pillar to repair the world, but also helped the displaced creatures of the earth find new homes to settle safe from Heaven's destruction. The Boulder greeted them to a paradise lush with fruit and flowers.
As a stroke of misfortune; a waterfall, formed in the aftermath of the flood, concealed the entrance to the Stone Palace. Meaning that those who had settled, did not discover it for some time. And the waters of the cavern eroded some of the many stories left on the cave walls.
One day the Boulder split open, revealing an egg-shaped stone. A young monkey falling out of it like a chick from a nest. The troop of monkey yao had no idea what to make of the little one. Only the bravest four cubs (Ma, Ba, Beng, and Liu) dared to approach this outsider and greet them as a new playmate.
The cub was nicknamed "Xiao-Shihou", their "little stone monkey". Later to be known as their King for his bravery and resourcefulness.
And even later renamed Sun Wukong as he had learned the ways of man and immortals.
Sun Wukong never met his mother. He never knew he had a parent to speak of. But he would learn from his time in Heaven that he was not the Only of his kind that existed once. That there was once strangers like him out on earth and in the stars. And that there might be a way to continue their work...
So he began researching ways to preserve his life and create his lone-parent child at the same time so that they would not be left alone as he was. The knowledge of Liu'er Mihou being a subspecies survivor was uncompletely unknown for millennia afterwards.
When The Bodhisattva of Mercy; Guanyin appeared in court on the day Sun Wukong lashed out at Heaven, her knowledge of her past lives rushed to her heart like an arrow. Before they were Miaoshan she were another human, and 30 so lives before that often a mortal animal or a plant. But her first ever reincarnation - the one which spearated them from their first life as First Princess Songzi - was that of a Stone Matriach preparing a safe place to bare her baby.
Guanyin could not inform Heaven of this fact - as it would put a target far greater than even now upon their past-self's child. The Jade Emperor and Queen Mother still found it difficult to separate Guanyin from their passed daughter. They simply would not be able to comprehend the stone monkey's connection to them.
So they pleaded for Sun Wukong to survive his punishment, even if it wasn't ideal for him or his people. Even all knowing - The Buddha simply could not let the Monkey King's destruction go unpunished or untested. Until he could become more patient, more wise, he must rest and mediatate upon his actions. Guanyin would approach the Monkey King many times throughout his Journey, always with the air of a worried mother. They even comforted and cried with him when he discovered the fate of the island after the war, and later when he lost his mate. Though at the time Sun Wukong he did not understand exactly why the Goddess cried with such sympathy alongside him.
And depending upon the story (AU), the Bodhisattva may have accidentally set the perfect conditions for their own spirtual grandchild to be formed.
The Goddess of Birth became a creature able to bare their young without a partner at the cost of their own life. And later in creating her child, the Stone Matriarch would enter the cycle of reincarnation to eventually become the Bodhsattva notorious for their Mercy and their skills in bringing life into the world.
As for Sun Luzhen?
Tumblr media
The Matriarch's Mate (Patriarch? Consort?) had not died in the flood waters as she had thought - but had been swept away into a cavern where they too presumed their love had been taken into Diyu. The Consort in turn buried themselves into the side of the mountain's base as opposed to the top - the Egg that formed only discovered over 2000 years after it's twin when the mountain itself was cracked open.
Sun Wukong meets this long-overdue cub in the clean-up effort, and discovers to his horror and sorrow the origins of them both.
Along the walls of The Consort's resting place lay a vast record of all the Stone Monkeys that came before them - the Matriarch having always adored her studious mate's rambling. The Consort even leaving aside names they and their mate had considered for their planned vast brood ("little heaven" and "walks reality" was among them), and wishes that whomever found their baby or any other stone egg take care to remember those who sacrificed to ensure their survival.
Sun Wukong drops to his knees upon reading the pre-chinese markings uncovered by Azure Lion's battle. The newly-hatched cub in his arms cooing with curiousity at his matching sun-orange fur.

Bai Heb is reincarnation of one of the Emperor's daughters? Bai He adopted by Wukogn and Macaque and neither realizing this is the Jade Emperor's daughter because the daughter she was the reincarnation of was one of the few that were never public knowledge? Jade Emperor discovering this when he lays dying and realized the mortal girl Sun Wukong had tried so hard to legally adopt and care for in both the eyes of the gods and the eyes of mortals is none other than his own daughter because he'd never met her in person?
referencing the weird dream I had about Bai He interacting with the Jade Emperor and the Queen Mother.
I think thats what the dream was implying.
Jade Emperor and Queen Mother have some bad history regarding their daughters.
The specific one mentioned in the dream - Zhinu? She was the seventh born and a goddess of weaving; she wove clouds into heavenly vestements for her parents.
And is the protag of "The Cowherd and the Weaver Girl".
One day she fell in love with a mortal cowherd named Niu Lang. A big celestial no-no. Especially she and Niu Lang had two kids. A even bigger celestial no-no!
Zhinu feels homesick one day and uses her enchanted cloud-clothing to visit her parents. But they won't let her leave. The Queen Mother is so adamant on keeping Zhinu from Earth that she tears a rip in the sky that becomes the Heavenly River (the Milky Way).
On earth, Niu Lang figured out that his wife has been kidnapped by her family. His loyal ox turns out to be a disposed god of cattle (weird detail but who knows, maybe Shennong was hanging around) who manages to boat Niu Lang and the two kids to a spot just across the Heavenly River where the married couple can see, but not touch one another. Only once a year can divine birds help carry the family across the river to reunite with Zhinu.
The story is meant to be an explanation for the literally "star-crossed" stars Vega and Altair (with baby stars Beta-Aquilae/Alshain and Gamma-Aquilae/Tarazed their kids) which meet eachother along the Milky Way once a year.
Not much more stories come from what happens to Zhinu and her mortal family after wards. But I imagine she's not on speaking terms with her parents. In my LMK idea, they're chilling in a piece of deep space away from the nonsense of the Celestial Realm. Having literally become stars and transcended the cycle of rebirth in a way that none of the celestials can imagine.
In addition to Zhinu, my chinese mythos storyline has the royal couple have had a falling out with;
Songzi (1st born) - was so disgusted by their treatment of Zhinu that she willingly went into the cycle of rebirth and eventually became Guanyin, Bodhisattva of Mercy.
Yin Wuming (2nd born) - reincarnated and became a demon hunter + Nezha's mother, and rejected the offer of reascension.
Princess Iron Fan (born after Zhinu) - who was expelled for falling in love/marrying the Demon Bull King.
So where does Bai He fall into this?
No idea.
Then again... imagine the heartbreak that would have occured if their truly youngest/last-born did not survive their earliest years. A daughter that they hid from a world ravaged by celestial war, but ultimately lost anyway to disease or misfortune. They would never by able to recover emotionally.
Now imagine that tiny soul reincarnated into a little mortal girl, who somehow contained enough divine power to harbour the White Bone Demon (a possible avatar of death itself) and not immeditaly breakdown into dust?
A pair of stone monkeys and/or a human scholar and a pig are now accidentally the guardians of the youngest Celestial Princess. Very magical girl-esque backstory for Bai He.
And the Jade Emperor only realises how familar the little girl at his side is in his final moments...

I imagine the Jade Emperor is feeling very, Very Stupid for thinking Wukong's claims of needing those layers of immortality was just an excuse after he gets the report that Wukong gave birth to a healthy baby boy, literally named 'Little Heaven,' only to very nearly die in the process, something no immortal thought was even possible when they consider how many layers of stolen immortality Wukong had. Like, Wukong had the most outrageous claim that was proven true within his own throne room and by his own wife, and now he's in his personal infirmary (Queen Mother insisted after helping Wukong give birth, she gets very attached because of course she does, its MK) just barely hanging onto life. Needless to say, the trial is postponed. Macaque refuses to be separated from Wukong or their cub until Wukong wakes up, which means no mobilizing the army until Wukong is awake, especially since they've confirmed that the same restrained used to keep Wukong down all those centuries ago simply will not work with Macaque.
By all rights, that cub should have been an orphan, and it was only by the sheer audacity, stubborness, and thousands of years of work put through by his parents that he has both Wukong and Macaque to watch over him. Wukong had been right, something nobody outside of his family and friends can really comprehend.
referencing Wukong having the Century Stone Egg in the middle of Heavenly Court + Wukong getting KO'd by it.
The Jade Emperor is feeling Stupid with a capitial S.
The Queen Mother is furious with her husband for not believing Wukong's claim about his reasons for immortality, but also angry with herself for not recognising that the monkey had gone into labor in her own palace. Had she'd known centuries ago that Wukong had wanted to safely have a child, she may have been able to help him with his goal, and would have forgiven the theft of her divine Peaches far earlier.
Plus, the "Little Heaven" is the cutest little furball anyone in the palace has seen in centuries. And if the Queen Mother has been caught cooing over the little cub no bigger than her thumb, then thats her business.
Lao Tzu is monitoring and documenting *everything*; weights, movements, heart rates, blood samples, anything that could give him knowledge of Wukong and the baby's conditon, but also give insight to what he and Gold Star know about Stone Monkeys. It's like having a unicorn at a vets, he can't not be excited!
The Peach Maidens visit Wukong and the baby with prayers of health and of luck. They were the very few in Heaven that suspected their attendant brother had stolen the Peaches for reasons other than gluttony. They're all super bummed out to see him in his deep sleep, and help to change his bedding and apply medicines to give his mate and found family a break.
Macaque is a bit of a gloomy mess at this point. Jumping between a silent vigil over Wukong's sleeping body, or performing a whole shadow play for their newborn cub as a bedtime story. Xiaotian truly is a little piece of Heaven for him, and he understands fully why Wukong risked and sacrificed so much for the chance to meet them.
The reincarnation/noodle shop gang are extremely supportive during this time, finally having a chance to get to know Macaque outside of their less-than-ideal meeting. Tang keeps the shadow monkey busy by telling him stories (fact-checked by Wukong himself) of the Monkey King's journeys after the couple's last meeting. Sandy teaches him ways to relax during these rough times. And Pigsy hasn't let Mac go without a meal since he got there (how the pig got into the royal kitchen, they'll never know).
The Ao Longs are very solemn during this time too. They nearly lost Mei when her egg came early, and they're super protective of Wukong and his baby while the monkey is unconcious. Little Mei met Xiaotian for the first time a few days after he was born, and hasn't lost the enchanted look in her eyes since.
Redson acts out by head-butting any stranger that comes near Wukongs' room, including celestial guards, noblemen, servants, and even his own (unknowning) divine grandparents. He declares The Monkey King and the baby under his protection! Secretly though, he curls up to Wukong at times and whispers not to "go back to long-sleep again" since it would make his Mama and Uncle Mac sad. :(
Wukong finally wakes up after a couple of days, and is overjoyed to awaken to see him and his baby both alive and well. His "Little Heaven" truly is worth all those centuries of planning <3

Oddly enough, after learning the reasoning behind Wukong's actions, the Jade Emperor and Queen Mother were both oddly supportive. To a ridiculous degree. It doesn't obsolvef the crimes Wukong did, but it bring a sense of perspective and understanding they hadn't had before. They will never admit it if asked, especially not in public, but a pile of gifts both for Wukong and his baby randomly showed up on FFM one day.
The sudden shift in demeanor def freaks Wukong out. The Jade Emperor... being nice to him? Xiwangmu being darn near doting!? Has the realm gone mad?
The gifts of heavenly peaches (non-immortality-causing, those ones aren't in season yet) and super soft silks are appriciated though.
Wukong gets sort of an answer when "Egg" aka Xiaotian is finally born and different deities come to pay their respects/give their blessings.
The Jade Emperor looms over the Monkey King asks... almost shyly(!?) to hold the baby.
Wukong doesn't want to cus he's super protective of the baby rn, but this seems kinda important to the Emperor so...
The tiny brown fuzzball can rest comfortabley in just one of the Divine Emperor's hands, even when he's in his roughly human-sized form. The size difference is so immense that the Emperor has to lift his hands up to see the baby clearly.
A tiny, toothless yawn comes from the little infant as they stretch themselves awake in the new hold.
Wukong swears on Buddha when he sees the Jade Emperor and Queen Mother start crying.
Then it hits him.
The royal couple have never held any of their grandchildren.
Zhinu's sons were forced into the stars before they could even meet them, the three Li brothers were already grown, and Wukong's unsure that the two know if Redson even exists.
The two gods look upon the chaotic fuzzy monkey cub almost like a surrogate grandbaby.
Macaque and the noodle shop gang are just completely stunned throughout this interaction. Not everyday you see the rulers of the Three Realms cry over a baby monkey.
Xiaotian's eyes finally blink open, revealing rings of newborn blue that fade into star-like yellow-orange.
The Jade Emperor's stoney expression cracks the tiniest smile.
Xiaotian pees on the Emperor's hand.
The room is silent. Even as the Emperor calmly hands Xiaotian backs to their parents for cleaning and hides his befouled limb. The royal couple leave soon after with more wishes of good luck.
With all coasts clear; Wukong just starts cackling with laughter!! Macaque can barely stop himself from laughing as he cleans up the baby and puts them in an actual diaper. Iron Fan makes a bubbling snort in her attempts to hold her laughter in.
Even the mortal friends of the monkeys are snickering. Tang in particular is howling at the similarities to Wukong marking the Buddha's own fingers.
That's the Monkey King's baby all right! Already marking their territory!

The idea of Monkie kid Nezha being (technically, I know) the Jade Emperor’s grandson is hilarious to me because it opens up the idea for two dynamics.
“I hate you because you are the walking representation of the marriage my daughter betrayed me to have.”
Or
“Your mother’s a bitch but we’re cool.”
It's... complicated.
You see, after the situation with Zhinu and Songzi/Guanyin happened, Second Princess Yin Wuming had been one of the many imperial princesses that had silently opposed her parents punishments against their own children. Upon losing both her eldest and (then) younges sisters to their poor parenting; she had enough. She was a second born who decided once and for all to scream her opinion into the world, no matter the consequences.
As a punishment for her insolence; the Jade Emperor and Queen Mother sent Yin to live a mortal life on earth until she could understand the suffering a mortal life can bring.
Yin responded to this reincarnation by becoming a demon hunter, marrying a cool af fellow hunter, and having 2 half-divine children before her parents realised that they had made a terrible mistake.
Refusing to yield on their negative opinion of human-celestial relations, but not wanting to lose another daughter as they had Zhinu, the Queen Mother cursed Yin to be unable to bear a child without great suffering. Similar to what she would do to Princess Iron Fan many years later.
What the Queen Mother hadn't counted on though... was that Yin was already pregnant with her third child...
Nezha absorbed the infernal magic sent by his grandmother, and became well... Nezha. Wreathed in flames and more demon than child.
The Jade Emperor and Queen Mother looked down, saw this little guy and were like; "Uh oh."
After the whole storyline involving the war with the dragons, Nezha's sacrifice and rebirth, the Investiture Crisis, Li Jing's and his sons rise to godhood, and Lady Yin refusing reascension to continue the cycle of reincarnation?
The Jade Emperor and Queen Mother basically see Nezha as a painfull reminder and a trophy all at once.
Nezha is the sum of their victories in the Investiture Crisis. Holding a blessing from the Pure One themselves in his rebirth. Raised in his new life to become a fine heavenly soldier and valuable asset to the Celestial Realm.
But he's also a reminder of the wrongs the royal couple have done. They were indirectly responsibile for his creation, and the suffering he brought upon the gods, mortals, and dragons alike. And even with their grandsons and son-in-law becoming celestials, they still lost another one of their daughters.
Nezha is both their most trusted advisor and most detested grandchild.
Lady Yin's soul is still in the cycle of rebirth, so there's no way to know where she's at rn.

Man, poor EggMK! And the sad part is he’s not even sure that the pills and peach will be enough. I mean, Wukong almost died, and he’s 7x immortal!
Can just imagine him burying his face into the queens robes, begging her to tell him what to do.
Referencing.
And the Queen Mother is silent for her own reasons.
This is the kind of pain she cursed her estranged daughters to suffer when they cut ties with their birth family. A pain that she's now seeing in person in the mere child infront of her.
She soothes and shushes MK as he cries into her divine robes (something her attendants silently fret over), the boy crying about how he's so scared to have this baby, but that he still wants to give them a chance that he didn't have.
Quietly, the Empress whispers into MK's ear; "Seek out Tieshan. She will understand the pain you are going through. She had to make very fearful decisions in order to bare her son."
MK briefly wonders who "Tieshan" is, until he remembers - thats what DBK calls his wife when the two are being sweet on eachother. How does the Queen Mother know her??
The Empress hugs MK for seemingly hours until Wukong comes looking for his heir. The Monkey King briefly panicking when he sees his successor/adoptive-cub in the Queen Mother's arms. He immedatiely rushes forward and starts chirping like a mother monkey at MK until the boy starts giggling from how worried his mentor is.
MK decides that he probably should ask Princess Iron Fan for her opinion on the matter.
(on a lighter note; the Queen Mother heard of the rumor that Red Son was to blame and is now trying to do the math of whether or not MK's stone egg baby counts as a heir.)

So in the Monkey King and the Infant AU, Guanyin and Iron Fan are sisters right?
What was their relationship like? And how did Guanyin feel about Red Son being taken from Iron Fan?
Would Guanyin put up much resistance to Iron Fan trying to take her son back or would she just kinda let it happen? It's Iron Fan's kid afterall.
It's... complicated.
I did try to draft up a rough Royal Family Tree a while back, and Guanyin/Songzi is listed as one of the Jade Emperor and Xiwangmu's daughters, aka Iron Fan's older sister.
You see Guanyin isn't biologically related to the Jade Imperial Family.
But her soul is.
Let me explain.
Guanyin/Kuan Yin is the current incarnation of the First Jade Princess Songzi - the eldest child of the Jade Emperor and the Queen Mother of the West.
Whilst studying under Bixia Yuanjun, the Goddess of Birth and Destiny, Songzi realised that she was disatisfied with her heavenly existence, and longed to experience the cycle of mortal life and death her teacher spoke of.
Then one day Zhinu the Seventh Princess; would abandon her cushy life in the Celestial Realm to be with a human man. Only for the Jade Emperor and his wife to tear the happy couple apart by literally splitting the skies open so that they could never meet. Zhinu and her husband and children were forced to become cosmic castaways in order to escape Heaven's authority.
Songzi had lost her then-youngest sister all because she loved someone.
So one day, Songzi decided to no longer eat the Peaches or drink the Wine. Many fights were had between her and her family over the matter, with them even trying to force her to consume an Elixir of Immortality just to lengthen her time.
Until one day, Songzi passed on. The details are unclear.
The Celestial Realms quaked with the sorrow that overtook the royal family for thousands of years to come.
Songzi would reincarnate many times in the proceding years. Sometimes as an animal, an asura, a mortal man, or in the case of Miao Shan; a human princess. And each time, she would choose mercy over violence or spite.
As Miao Shan, she refused to marry and instead became a buddhist nun/healer, much to the distaste of her father Miaozhuang Wang. He would then execute Miao Shan for defying him/having powers that scared tf out of him, but she still forgave him and her executioner. Even while staying in a layer of Naraka/Hell, Miao Shan managed to alleviate the pain and torment of those around her - so much so that King Yama the God of Hell kicked her out. (Bonus lore detail+ Miao Shan is frequently associated with Tigers and lions during her tale, which is the celestial animal of Xiwangmu...)
The now-revived Miao Shan would spend many years meditating and helping out lost fisherman while chilling on Fragrant Mountain/Southern Seas. Until one day she heard that her King bio-dad was dying, and that the eyes and arms of a pure being could cure him - so she offered up her own. In this great act of forgiveness she became Guanyin.
The Celestial Realm noticed this and upon recieving confirmation of who she once was; wanted Guanyin to immediately return to Heaven and retake her position as the First Jade Princess.
However, Guanyin realised that she couldn't just leave earth behind while there was still so much mortal sufferring that she could heal. So she became Bodhisattva so that she may still act directly with mortals and the Buddha.
All the Jade Emperor and Xiwangmu can do is sigh with both frustration and resignation. Thats their eldest daughter for you.
From Heaven's perspective, it's a lot like the "Steven isn't Pink Diamond, but kinda?" situation in Steven Universe. The Celestials don't 100% understand that reincarnation isn't a direct copy-paste; Guanyin isn't Songzi anymore, though she still holds her soul and her powers. If she ever truly wanted, she could become next in line for the throne.
A similar situation happens later with Lady Yin - Nezha's mother, who reincarnated as a human woman and decided to stay that way even as her husband and sons become Gods/Celestials in their own rights. Nezha is in turn considered *legally* the grandchild of the Jade Emperor, despite not having a genetic link to him.
Princess Tieshan/"Iron Fan" was born shortly after all these deaths occurred, becoming the youngest out of all of the royal daughters. She grew up hearing how perfect her missing sisters were. All perfect except for that One Little Thing that caused them to lose their place in Heaven and by-proxy; their parents love. These harsh warnings and lessons to never let her emotions rule her decisions, accidentally led Iron Fan to fall for a demon who wore his heart on his sleeve - the Demon Bull King.
As for how Guanyin felt about Red Son being taken from his parents? She felt bad honestly - but she thought that he would cause so much more damage if he was allowed to run around undiciplined. And being legally First Princess, she was allowed to make the decision for his "punishment" when the toddler Red Son did something that greatly angered/terrified the gods...
As for Iron Fan coming to pick Red up from the Southern Sea? Guanyin is literally like; "Ok sure. I'm glad you're taking initiative again. I made sure Red didn't age so you two could make up for lost parent-child time. Call me if you need anything."
Princess Iron Fan really isn't sure how to react around Guanyin. The Bodhisattva may have the soul of her eldest sister - but she acts like a younger one to her (as Miao Shan was the youngest of three), and is a neutral party in the debate of Heaven vs Everyone Else. So the best PIF can do is call her Red's "auntie" and not elaborate on the details.
One of my mutuals @dorothygale123 has been reading through chinese mythology, and was the one to open the door for me on the Guanyin origin story. I've been looking through different articles, and have decided "tired reincarned goddess" is my au's interpetation of Guanyin.
