So apropos of some early morning discord discussion about those pictures of Liu Chang in his latest fashion-bondage collar…
https://daily-liuchang-mufasa.tumblr.com/post/666722852445290496/alk%E7%A2%B1%E6%80%A7%E7%94%B5%E6%B1%A0%E4%B8%A8%E5%88%98%E7%95%85
…and what it might be like if Liu Sang were to wear a collar on a dig, I went into a fugue state and ended up texting this to @uschickens.
So, the Wu Family is going on a tomb raid for *handwave* reasons with a group where it is a norm that if you are *not* wearing a collar then you are seen as available, unless you can establish your dominance. They’ve done this before on a few occasions and Wu Xie and Wu Erbai have a system where they, as the leaders of their contingent, determine who needs to be collared. At this point, Liu Sang is sleeping with Wu Xie and Xiaoge, but it’s kind of unclear how committed they all are. And Liu Sang is obviously also a huge asset to the whole tomb raiding world that Wu Erbai loves to work with. Cue Wu Erbai being like: “Xiao Xie, make sure that Liu Sang is safe.”
So Wu Xie and Xiaoge hand Liu Sang a box with a collar in it (dark leather, lightly padded inside, no rings or decoration) and explain why he has to wear it. He is not amused and objects vociferously, but Wu Xie overrules him. He’s still pretty irritated about it, and then they all get to the hotel where the Wu and Other contingents are meeting up and before Liu Sang gets out of the van, Xiaoge puts a hand on his arm. Pangzi looks between the three of them, sees the box that the collars come in, and is like RIGHT! So! I am Going To Get The Keys!
So then you have Liu Sang the first time that Xiaoge buckles the collar on him, long fingers carefully ensuring it’s not too tight or loose, Liu Sang frozen as he registers the weight around his neck, the way it moves when he swallows. Xiaoge unbuttons the top button of his dress shirt so that everyone can see the collar, and make absolutely certain they register that Liu Sang belongs to him the Wu Family.
Because then you have Liu Sang having to deal with his *feelings* about this kind of treatment, these explicit actions of ownership
So, Wu Xie and Xiaoge are lurking around the edges of the camp, watching the other team move amongst their people. The first couple of days are usually the worst when it comes to dominance fights— anyone the new team hasn’t met before who is uncollared can be challenged, and if they start losing then Wu Xie or Xiaoge (or Hei Xiazi, if they bring him along) steps in to save them and then that person gets collared for the duration. (Why? Who knows. Let’s just take it as read for now.)
And while the group is only supposed to threaten uncollared people, there are some less refined members of that team who are happy to try and steal another person’s subs. And Liu Sang is a tasty morsel, so he is usually accompanied by one of the three, and sometimes Kan Jian who also doesn’t have to wear a collar (💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻). Liu Sang is pretty much over the dominance fights and threat displays as soon as they start happening, but there’s something about how Xiaoge and Wu Xie slide their fingers under the collar to pull him to them, always keeping their eyes fixed on his. It’s like they see him more clearly or the weight of their attention means more here, even though it shouldn’t.
They make it through that job relatively unscathed and when they finally split from the other group, back at a different hotel that’s just the Wu Family, Wu Xie says, “you don’t need this anymore, Xiao Sang,” stepping behind him to loosen the buckle. Liu Sang feels a little lurch in his chest as the collar tightens very briefly and then loosens, sliding down his neck. He stands there swallowing, throat bare for the first time in days and wonders why he feels so… bereft. Xiaoge is watching him closely, watches him try to shake it off, notices how much quieter he is at dinner.
That night, they finally have a bed and enough plausible deniability about the noise to fuck in it, and it’s good, Liu Sang thinks it’s definitely good— Wu Xie and Xiaoge are always good to him and it’s been over a week since he had more than hasty hand- or suckjobs. And yet…
He’s just the tiniest bit off for the next few days, but Wu Xie and Xiaoge notice, of course they notice, and they talk about it. Wu Xie is slightly skeptical of Xiaoge’s theory but willing to test it out. And so the next evening that Liu Sang comes over to Wushanju, dressed nicely in button down and trousers, Wu Xie and Xiaoge tug him into the bedroom. He’s laughing, “Aren’t you even going to feed me first?” he asks, and then Wu Xie hands him a box, a familiar box, and he stares down at it, knees suddenly weak and hands shaking. He opens it, careful, ready for it to be some other present, something else they think he’ll like (they shower him with presents, it’s embarrassing). But no, it’s just what he expected, the fine-grained dark leather, recently oiled, padded so that it won’t hurt his neck.
He looks up, mute, and Wu Xie and Xiaoge are watching him. He looks down again and remembers how it felt, all those days on the dig, the collar snug around his throat, always there even when Xiaoge or Wu Xie had to step away. He lifts it up, and offers it to Xiaoge. “Will you put it on me?” he asks.
Xiaoge takes it solemnly and steps behind him, slips it around his throat, while Wu Xie catches Liu Sang’s gaze and holds it. “Xiao Sang,” he says quietly. “Look at you.”
And when Xiaoge steps back, sliding his fingers over Liu Sang’s neck and collarbones as he goes, Liu Sang takes one deep, deep breath, and then drops carefully to his knees.

Because I've taken a liking to Liu Chang Mufasa, I started watching the untranslated version of Overworking Man. I don't understand much of what's going on, but damn it's hilarious and Liu Chang is killing it as the overworked, put-upon, office worker with exceedingly strange co-workers and an even stranger boss.
It's on YouTube right now and I hope, one day, someone subtitles it in English.
