Xiuxiu pauses at the end of the alleyway, eyeing the man guarding the warehouse door. He doesn't look like he's pulled three all-nighters in a row. Doesn't look like he's fazed at all by the early morning sunlight shining straight into his face.
But that's the thing about him. He's a horrible actor when it came to some things - like pretending to be incompetent. But years of training taught him to hide boredom and loneliness and exhaustion.
He isn't so good about hunger, but he's resolved that with a cup of instant rice porridge. It's probably empty now - he eats fast, like he'll never get more - but he pretends he's casually sipping. Or maybe he just keeps forgetting it's empty?
Really, it's high time Wang Can learns to delegate. She walks forward, Touba behind her shifting nervously, breakfast box in hand. He'll take over guard duty, give the idiot a chance to eat, to sleep and - maybe, just maybe - let that overly tight coil inside him relax for a while.
After all, she couldn't have her Chief of Security collapse from overwork. No matter how dedicated he might be.

“CM: Xiaoge is hurt” for the wip game??🥺
Ok, I'm slightly worried I have set up unrealistic expectations with the WIP title, so to be clear, this another in my Club Moonlight series, A Tiger is a Tiger not a Lamb. This was originally supposed to have a lot more of Liu Sang and Wang Can taking care of Xiaoge, but it's kind of become Liu Sang develops feelings. His response to that is, unsurprisingly, to run away. But Xiaoge is hurt, so here you go:
Liu Sang was honestly surprised that Wu Xie let them into the bedroom without cajoling, but something in what Liu Sang had said or Pangzi had conveyed had made him think. He was still tense, still protective, but he wasn’t the half-feral man who had greeted them in his study.
The drapes were still drawn and the sconces dark. The dim room was lit only by two small lamps on the bedside tables, and they barely illuminated anything. It took a moment for Liu Sang’s eyes to adjust, and when they did he strained even to find a figure in the bed. He stepped closer and finally found Xiaoge, who was barely noticeable, curled up under a heaping pile of quilts.
“Xiaoge,” Wu Xie said softly, crossing to the bed and perching on it carefully, “You have guests.” He stroked a gentle hand over Xiaoge’s arm while Liu Sang watched, and he heard the rustle of the covers, the soft grunt of pain as Xiaoge moved.
“Guests?” he said, and then, when they stepped closer, he said with quiet surprise, “Wang Can? Liu Sang?” Wang Can stepped closer, almost within touching distance, though Liu Sang stayed further back, at the end of the bed. “You… came?”
Liu Sang was careful not to change his expression, not to look away.
“Of course we came,” his brother said, softer than Liu Sang would have expected. “We even brought you presents.”
Xiaoge looked confused. “... Presents?”
Liu Sang stepped in smoothly, “Yes, presents. You’re our favorite, Xiaoge.” He could hear the surprised little hitch of breath, and Wu Xie’s amused huff. “Though Wu Xie already stole two of your oranges. I hope you don’t mind.”

Title: Any Port in a Storm
Fandoms: 盗墓笔记 - 南派三叔 | The Grave Robbers' Chronicles - Xu Lei, 盗墓笔记重启 | The Lost Tomb Reboot (TV)
Relationships: Wang Can/Wang Pangzi
Summary:
“I—” Wang Can’s voice is weak and raspy. Far from the smooth confidence when Pangzi had interrogated him that one time. I was in the area and, fuck, I didn’t know where else to go.”
Wang Can huffs out a soft approximation of a laugh. “This is the second time I’ve woken up on a sofa with you in front of me. Are you going to tie me up and threaten to set me on fire again?”
Not through any sort of verbal agreement, but they don’t talk about their past encounter. Wang Can doesn’t like being reminded of his time with Wangs, and Pangzi doesn’t like being reminded of the time he threatened to torture someone who was little more than a kid at the time.
“Depends how nicely you ask. Setting you on fire might be mercy anyway,” Pangzi snaps, more harshly than he’d intended in the face of what was little more than some gentle teasing. “What the fuck happened to you?”
Wang Can shrugs his uninjured shoulder. “Some asshole who hired me was trying to cover his footsteps. He got lucky. I’d have fixed it myself but he managed to hit me right in the spot where I can’t reach. So I just need you to pull it out, stitch me up and I’ll be on my way.”
He’s talking like this is an everyday occurrence and no big deal, instead of being weird and kind of fucked up. Who goes to someone for help who kidnapped them in the past? Imagine if Wu Xie had been home. “Hi, I know you wiped out the cult I was part of but can you do me a favour and pull this literal knife out of my back?” Or if it had been Xiaoge. “Yeah, the cult who raised me wanted to learn all your family’s secrets but I’m in a spot of bother.”
Really, it’s almost a blessing that Pangzi was the only one who was home.
“Does this look like a hospital to you? That’s where you should be. I’m not a doctor!”
He knows it’s not that simple, and he knows full well why people from their world can’t walk into a hospital where people would ask questions. Especially when there’s a knife sticking out of him. But, still, this seems like something more serious than either he or a village doctor who is used to doing routine check-ups for the elderly is equipped to deal with.
He doesn’t often miss his life in the city, but what he wouldn’t give right now to be able to call Xiao Hua, Huo Daofu or Liang Wan. It was so much easier when he had fully trained medical personnel just a short journey away.
“You were closer than a hospital,” Wang Can replies. His voice is a little softer than it was before and his words are slurring together. “I wouldn’t have come here if there was any other option.”
His eyes dart around the room and Pangzi has no idea what or who he’s looking for. Is he delirious? Does he have some sort of brain injury as well as the stab wound?
“Who are—”
“Does Wu Xie know I’m here?”
Ah.

For the ship thing, Liu Sang/Wang Can our of curiosity
anon i think you want to watch the world burn
disclaimer heads up once again that these are all 100% my personal feelings and not moral accusations of any kind, so if you happen to like this ship that’s your business and my opinion means nothing. that being said, fair warning, this isn’t going to be positive
so yeah i uh. intensely dislike this i’m not sure anyone’s surprised and there’s vaguely lore as to why that i’m not going to get into excessively, but the tldr of it is basically in two (ish) parts.
the first is that strictly coming at it from canon, independently of what your canon of choice is, this ship is wonky at best. and yes, i know, not everyone cares about that, and i’m not saying it’s completely impossible because AUs/canon divergences exist for a reason, but that’s point number one. i’m not even going to get into the fact that wang can, who’s very much a blip both in sha hai the book and sha hai the drama, di es in both which makes things even more impossible unless you redact that. then there’s simply the circumstances factor. the only way in which i could see this potentially being remotely possible in a canon setting is if you infer that liu sang’s association with tudian means that if tudian had extensive contact with the wangs, they might have crossed paths at some point. but given how little we know about tudian and his everything, it’s speculation, but it’s not impossible so there’s a window there i guess. and you’d also have to assume liu sang, who re: restart the book was born in the 90s, was born in the earlier half of the decade because otherwise he’d have been a bit young: not so much in general, because though that’s a topic for another discussion people do ship wu xie and li cu, more in relation to the popular fanon surrounding the liu sang/wang can ship which i’ll get to in a bit. as for how they’d work even if you filled in all those conditions? to be honest i’ve never thought about it extensively, but i don’t that we really get enough of wang can as a character to be able to pin him as more than a highly driven wang operative, and as for liu sang, given his general approach to most people and things, i can only really picture this in a ‘what if liu sang had been endoctrinated into the wangs’ AU because the way i see it, liu sang is someone who tends to be driven by the same sorts of intense/bordering on fanatical feelings in interpersonal relationships (re: how he is about xiaoge), so he and wang can would have to bond over their mutual devotion to the cause. again, not impossible, but you do need to get creative
this does bring me to the second part of the ‘why i want to burn this with fire’ lore, which is the fanon behind this ship even existing, and even that’s twofold. again, this is purely my personal feelings, but the biggest no-no for me from the get-go is this ship contains liu sang, and i do not like liu sang as a character. and yes it is practically entirely because of his fans but that’s also a topic for another time. unfortunately for similar reasons that also extends to most if not all characters who have been played by the same actor. so this ship is pretty much a double no-no for me for solely those reasons. then there’s the other aspect of the apparent appeal of it that specifically hinges on the fact both characters were played by the same actor, and so that i’ve seen, it’s a fairly popular take to make them both fanon long-lost twins. which then turns it into fanon incst and that’s just. really not my cup of tea. it’s just one of those things i let be but want to stay far away from, which makes it doubly unfortunate it’s another one of those ships i’ve had pushed at me directly or not before i distanced myself from most popular dmbj fandom spaces to avoid them
i wish i had more constructive things to say about this but unfortunately i don’t
